Hi all! Today I prepared an article about blinds, just like that, for no reason. An article for review, maybe someone will draw something fresh for themselves.

Not so long ago, we saw blinds, mainly in offices, and at home, tulle and fabric curtains were hung on the windows. But with the advent various kinds blinds these designs began to displace from home interior our usual curtains.

After all, they not only reliably protect rooms from sun rays, but also harmoniously fit into the interior design. In this article, we will look at what blinds are for windows, all types of these designs, talk about materials and colors, note the main advantages, and also turn to recommendations and practical advice optional blinds.

Window blinds - excellent protection from the sun, excessive stuffiness, street lamps and bright daylight. They are made from different materials and have a wide range of colors. To date, there are 12 varieties of blinds.

  • Vertical.
    This type of blinds is equipped with slats different sizes, from narrow stripes to wide panels. With their help, you can arbitrarily adjust the amount of light entering the room, opening access in whole or in part. Such curtains serve for a long time and are used both in residential premises and in office buildings. Their only drawback is closed access to the windowsill.
  • Horizontal. This is the first type of modern blinds that appeared on the market. Their main advantages: affordable price, easy care, resistance to moisture and sunlight, they do not absorb kitchen aromas and are very convenient for a window sill with flowers. Looks great as an addition to curtains. Horizontal blinds easily fit into any style and design of the room. Of the minuses: fragility.
  • Roll. Roller blinds adequately replace standard curtains, because they do not wrinkle, repel dust and roll very conveniently. This design does not break, goes well with any design and rolls very conveniently. Main plus roller blinds- a solid canvas that neatly closes window openings. There is only one drawback: they are difficult to care for.
  • Pleated. Pleated blinds are original and exquisite design in the form of an "accordion", which is very convenient when folding the structure. This option is suitable for almost any interior space, and it's not just the versatility of the model. Such blinds are easily cleaned of dust and stains and are initially impregnated with a special antistatic agent, which allows them to retain their original appearance for a long time.
  • Attic. This name speaks for itself - such designs are ideal for roofs, attics, verandas and various types of attics. They hold up well and don't sag, and for slanted windows, they're the perfect solution. This is perhaps the only option when you can be sure that the structure will not settle, fall, fail, hang down and cause all sorts of inconvenience.
  • Arched. A great option if your windows are made in the form of arches. Lamellas can be both horizontal and vertical. Roll structures that can be adjusted to the size of the arches will also fit perfectly into the design. The latter option, if desired, can be used for a pattern or ornament that is most suitable for the interior. Required condition installation: this must be carried out by a specialist.
  • Interframe. Such designs are very rare models, as they are used mainly for windows in old houses. Their function is to save space, clean windows and the ability to open each sash. For adjustment, a specially designed flexible control is used, which is installed between the glasses. The main plus: with a minimum area, such blinds save space.
  • Photographic. A chic option with which you can apply any desired pattern to the blinds in accordance with individual preferences. It all depends on your imagination, the main thing is not to overdo it. Consider the factor that you choose a design for window openings in accordance with the overall interior. You can order any pattern or pattern you like, but do not forget about the style of the interior.
  • Multiimpressive. This type of window structures is considered the most spectacular, because their advantage is that the details of the blinds seem to “layer” on top of each other. The result is original patterns and ornaments. These types of blinds are suitable if you are a fan original solutions in room design. The main plus: here you can experiment with colors in accordance with the overall interior.
  • Roman. This is a very convenient and comfortable type of window construction, similar to a pleated blind, only in this version, the blinds fold into wide folds when rolled up. Such a model can be chosen in almost every interior, since well-chosen Roman blinds will ideally fit into any room design. But there is also a significant minus - they do not like hand washing, only dry cleaning.
  • With electric drive. This type is the most modern, because it is equipped with a special button, thanks to which you do not have to twist anything manually. All you have to do is use the automatic button and the window blinds will rise and fall as you please. This type of window structures is easy to use and fits almost any window, regardless of model, texture and materials.
  • Protective. This variant is intended primarily for protection functions, such as garages or balconies. A similar design is made mainly of metal or other equally durable material. The main function of such structures is maximum protection, whether it is an office or a private house. Safety shutters are resistant to any temperature conditions are easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing.

Materials used for blinds

We have considered all the options that blinds are, now let's talk about the materials from which these structures are made.

First of all, it is worth noting the main advantage: they are all impregnated with antistatic dust-repellent and water-repellent agents.

Thanks to this, it is much easier to care for the blinds - they do not deteriorate from heat and dampness, stains are easily cleaned with a sponge and a vacuum cleaner.

  • Plastic. Such curtains are universal - the slats close tightly without letting in light, the material does not heat up and is perfectly washed, and the blinds themselves look great with tulle and curtains. The color of the design can be different, and it will not be difficult to choose a model that suits the interior. But there is also a minus - plastic is subject to fragility and deformation, so the cost of such blinds is relatively low.
  • Aluminum. These blinds are good because they do not corrode, they are strong enough, they can be perfectly cleaned from stains and dust, they are resistant to moisture and temperature changes, they look great in any interior. Among the shortcomings, it can be noted that the lamellas heat up in a very hot time, which makes the room stuffy. Aluminum structures are often used in clinics, schools and kindergartens.
  • . As for these blinds, their main advantage is that they are not afraid of sunlight and do not fade. They are easy to clean (although they take a lot of time to care for), fabric blinds are practical and decorate the room very beautifully. Thanks to this, as well as the variety of colors, window structures fabrics are in high demand. But there is one drawback: they have a high cost.
  • Tree. This is a very effective material, durable and lightweight, covered with a protective layer of varnish. Wooden blinds in any room create a homely atmosphere, bring coziness and comfort. But, before purchasing window structures made of wood, it is important to consider that such curtains are not recommended for use in the kitchen, especially close to the stove, because they do not tolerate moisture, quickly absorb fat and food flavors.
  • Jacquard. We are talking about fabric polyester - the material is very dense and of high quality. If we talk about the appearance, then jacquard blinds are multi-colored threads woven into the fabric. Such designs are strong enough, ideal for plastic windows, repel moisture and dust. Due to the fact that the blinds are made of environmental materials, they are often purchased for children's rooms.
  • Bamboo. This is a very light and at the same time durable material, resistant to moisture. Bamboo blinds are perfectly cleanable, bring an atmosphere of comfort into the room, look very impressive in the interior, and even, as they say in eastern countries, they take away all the negative energy. Models can be anything, each of them will decorate the room. Of the minuses: blinds made of bamboo are not cheap.

We found out what all types of blinds are, and the choice of model depends on personal preferences and financial capabilities.

Finally, let's draw your attention to the main recommendations that will be useful when purchasing window structures.

You should not buy blinds just because you really liked them - think about whether they will fit the interior of the room, will they be in harmony with the overall design? Also, calculate all measurements in advance so as not to purchase curtains that will not fit later, otherwise you will have to change them.

Consider Availability indoor plants in pots that require access to the windowsill. And pay attention to the functionality of the slats, in which direction they open, this can be important.

Horizontal blinds for plastic windows

Horizontal blinds have become so popular due to their ability to shield a room from the sun's rays. Other advantages of these structures are also important: they are easy to maintain and maintain.

If for their plastic windows If you choose this type of blinds, you will get rid of a number of unpleasant problems, as they do not absorb odors and fats, easily tolerate high temperatures and the sun, and are also comfortable and easy to ventilate.

Due to their small dimensions, horizontal blinds are perfect for limited and small spaces, whether it be a loggia or a kitchen. An important advantage is that they are unpretentious in care.

Aluminum horizontal blinds are a great choice for an office. They can be used on windows and as additional partitions.

The main advantages of horizontal blinds

One of the many features of horizontal blinds is functionality. They will help to hide from the sun even in rooms with non-standard windows due to various modifications.

This will give you the opportunity to choose horizontal blinds for your windows. They were developed for plastic windows that have become favorite and popular. Due to the fact that they are mounted directly on the window, horizontal blinds save space and fit perfectly into any room.

A clear fixation gives them one more advantage over vertical blinds: they are not afraid of the wind, they will not be inflated by air currents.

Horizontal blinds are unpretentious in leaving, are convenient in management and the address. These qualities will certainly save your time and nerves.

Horizontal blinds

Products consist of:

  • Eaves on top, which is located horizontally;
  • Thin horizontal profiled lamellas;
  • Lower eaves;
  • control mechanism;
  • Brackets for fasteners.

Care of wooden horizontal blinds

If you prefer wooden horizontal blinds, then when cleaning you will need to use a dry soft cloth. You can also turn to the soft brush of a vacuum cleaner.

In order to save the money given for the purchase of this very expensive type of blinds, you need to remember the golden rule: they require very careful handling.

It is worth forgetting about water when cleaning, because. this carries the danger of not only losing the color of the lamellas, but also swelling from moisture. Sometimes, for cleaning this type of blinds, specialized products are used that are designed to care for unvarnished tinted wood surfaces. This allows you to wash them with softness. They can also be removed from the eaves and cleaned on a horizontal surface.

To ensure the durability of the structure, it is necessary once a year (or more often) to lubricate the cornice guides with silicone grease.

Care of horizontal aluminum blinds

Unlike all other types of blinds, horizontal aluminum blinds do not require any special care. For washing you will need soapy water and a soft cloth. Or a soft brush of a vacuum cleaner.

In case of global pollution, the lamellas can be removed from the structure and placed in a bathroom with warm soapy water, where they can be washed. Then they must be returned to the window. It is worth taking note that the cornice itself cannot be washed with water, this can damage the moving mechanism.

Vertical blinds for plastic windows

Vertical blinds consist of the following main "parts": cornice, runners, weights, connecting chain, control chain and control rope.

Cornice- the bearing part to which the lamellas are attached. It is usually made from aluminium. Rarely, but there are plastic cornices.

I do not advise you to purchase them: they can bend under the weight of the lamellae, and the rotating parts inside deform the plastic over time. As a result, the mechanism will jam.

Runners- devices that, on the one hand, cling to the eaves and move along it, and on the other, lamellas are hung on them. The smooth operation of the mechanism primarily depends on the quality of the runners. vertical blinds. As far as I was able to find out, runners are made only of plastic.

But runners are different for runners. Even a tiny burr can disrupt the smooth movement of the slats, and then the blinds will constantly jam, move with great difficulty, and very soon they may break altogether. So, when placing an order at a company, interrogate the seller with passion where the runners and other details of the blinds come from.

Weights- inserted into the lower part of the slats so that they do not sway from the wind and hang evenly.

Connecting chain- as the name implies, connects the lamellas at the bottom. As a rule, fabric lamellas are connected with a plastic chain through which a fishing line is pulled. Manufacturers claim that these chains are very durable. But this, of course, does not mean that they need to be ruthlessly pulled.

Of course, I prefer metal “chains” (if only because dirt is not so noticeable on them and in general they are somehow more reliable). But they are completed mainly with plastic and metal blinds. And besides, the metal makes the structure heavier and more expensive.

The same applies to the control chain that hangs down the side of the eaves and rotates the slats by 180°. These chains are also mostly plastic (although they used to be made of metal as well).

There is also a control rope - it shifts and pushes the lamellas apart.

A large number of companies are engaged in the production of components for blinds, from Belarusian, Polish, Korean and ending with Israeli, German and Dutch. Israeli and Dutch products enjoy a good reputation.

Although its price is, of course, higher. But it's not a sin to pay for quality. Therefore, when ordering blinds, ask where the components are made, and do not flatter yourself with cheap prices - the miser pays twice. But, as they explained to me, the quality of the work of the blinds is only 50% dependent on the quality of the parts and 50% on the conscientiousness of the company that assembles the mechanism.

Lamella material

Vertical blinds come in two sizes: "European" - 127 mm wide - and "American" - 89 mm.

Our advice: for large windows and as interior partitions it is better to use blinds with wide slats, for small openings - with narrow ones.

Usually the slats of vertical blinds are made of fabric or plastic, less often - of wood or aluminum.

Fabric is the most popular material for vertical blinds In our country, fabric blinds are the most popular. Apparently, it's a matter of habit and love for all kinds of curtains and curtains.

Fabric lamellas are different in density, color, texture, but most often they are made of polyester - a durable material that practically does not fade in the sun and is easy to clean.

Fabrics for slats presented on our market are produced in France, Belgium, Spain, USA, England, Poland, China, Ukraine and Belarus. Of course, domestic fabrics are cheaper than imported ones. But there were cases when unscrupulous sellers passed off cheap Chinese fabric as expensive French.

In order to avoid such forgery, I advise you to deal only with well-known companies that have been operating on the market for a long time, which will assume all obligations for warranty service.

When choosing between inexpensive non-woven fabrics (at $8-10/sq.m.) or exquisite jacquard fabrics with a complex weave of threads (at $20-40/sq.m.), you need to pay attention to the density of the material.

Our advice. The greater the density of the fabric, the longer the lamella will retain its marketable appearance: it will not deform, it will not warp, it will not stretch.

Although the higher the density, the naturally higher the price. Non-woven material is cheaper than woven, but it does not tolerate moisture well and gets dirty faster. It should also be taken into account that fabric with a printed pattern is cheaper, but fades faster in the sun. If the pattern is woven on fabric (jacquard weave variant), it is more durable.

Where there are increased requirements for fire safety (for example, in the kitchen), it is best to hang fiberglass blinds, which do not burn in a fire, but, as it were, sinter, do not smoke or emit harmful substances.

Fiberglass does not need to be treated with dust-repellent impregnations, unlike conventional fabrics, which are necessarily coated with moisture-proof and antistatic compounds at the production stage (this, however, does not apply to the cheapest materials - $ 5 / m2 each).

Main advantage plastic blinds: they do not bend "to spite all the winds" and keep their shape well, unlike fabric ones. But the disadvantages of plastic blinds directly depend on the price.

The cheapest ones (at $14 per sq.m.) are rather fragile and not very resistant to temperature changes: under the bright rays of the sun they heat up and begin to turn yellow.

Blinds made of good quality plastic do not have these disadvantages, but they cost from $20/sq.m. Usually they are bought for offices, and at home they are hung in the kitchen or on glazed loggias. Such blinds are perfectly cleaned and do not accumulate static electricity.

This is quite an expensive pleasure ($66-130 per sq.m). But they have a lot of advantages: the material is natural, environmentally friendly, durable. As a rule, these are durable light woods (Canadian linden, cork), processed using a special technology.

The vertical lamella of wooden blinds consists of many thin strips of wood connected by threads into a canvas. These blinds are very easy to care for - just vacuum them.

Metal blinds

They are quite rare on sale: they are used mainly in industrial premises. These blinds are easy to care for, not exposed to sunlight, covered with heat-resistant enamel. True, they say that even with a slight wind they rattle (clatter). And this, you see, not everyone will like it. The price is about $30 per square meter with a lamella width of 89 mm.

What should be considered when buying?

Before buying blinds in general and vertical blinds in particular, you need to decide how exactly you will hang them. There are several options here.

  • Option one: blinds are attached to the window opening.

In this case, the room seems larger, but the window sill will be occupied by lamellas and your favorite flowers will have to be moved to another place - after all, the lamellas should rotate freely.

  • Option two: blinds are attached with an overlap.

Most often - to the wall above the window (like a cornice for ordinary curtains) or to the ceiling.

Then the window opening is completely closed and the flowers on the window can be left.

And further. The most important thing is when ordering blinds, correctly calculate their so-called dimensions. How to do it?

  1. First. If you decide to hang the blinds inside the window opening, subtract two centimeters from the height of the opening so that the slats do not lie on the window sill.
  2. Second. If you want to attach the blinds to the wall above the window, it is better that they be a little wider and extend fifteen centimeters beyond the window border.
  3. Third. The distance between the floor and the blinds must be at least 5 cm.

And one more important question, with which you need to decide before placing an order - in which direction will the blinds open and close? There are four options for the movement of the slats when closing the blinds:

  • lamellas move in the opposite direction to the control rope;
  • slats move towards the control rope;
  • lamellas move apart in both directions from the center;
  • lamellas converge to the center.

Four options for the movement of the slats when closing the blinds Keep in mind: right choice dictated not only by your tastes and preferences, but also by "production necessity". For example, be sure to pay attention to whether the assembled slats will interfere when you want to open the window.

Well, these recommendations are perhaps the most important thing to choose the right vertical blinds. Having decided on the dimensions, installation and opening options, you can order. The term of the order depends on the volume and complexity of the work. But on average it takes a day.

Typical mistakes when ordering blinds

Deputy General Director of Oswald Alexander Kalashnikov:

- The most common mistake, or rather carelessness, is when people confuse width with height. This happens if a person takes measurements on his own.

And although our order form says in black and white: width ___, length ___, all the same, customers manage to enter the width instead of the length and vice versa.

Only after coming home and attaching ready-made blinds to the window, the buyer realizes that he made a mistake and returns to us again. If something can be corrected, we certainly do it. For example, we add several slats, and the client pays extra for them. If nothing can be fixed, you have to fulfill the order again and, of course, pay again. So be extremely careful when filling out the documents.

Another rather "popular" mistake: a person wants to hang blinds inside the window opening, but forgets to subtract 1.5 - 2 cm from the height of the opening. As a result, the cornice simply does not go there, and alteration entails additional difficulties and costs.

Therefore, we advise you not to refuse to visit a specialist at home. A professional will competently take measurements, tell you which blinds are best to choose, and then install them. In this case, he is fully responsible for his work during the entire warranty period, and you only accept it.

Blinds are a popular product, although not so long ago. They are in great demand, because they allow not only to limit the amount of sunlight in the room, but also to ensure the privacy of life.

This is the most best option of all, because the tulle does not particularly protect from the sun, the curtains are not very easy to manage, and the curtains are too heavy and dark.

Blinds Benefits

Helpful information:

In total there are three types of blinds designs: horizontal, vertical and roll. The former are the most versatile, they are used everywhere. The latter, as a rule, are purchased for offices and institutions, while the third are intended for home use or narrower tasks. Let's take a closer look at the features of each design.

So, vertical blinds consist of the following elements:

  • narrow or wide slats - strips, the width of which is 87-127 mm, and the length - depending on the height of the window;
  • metal or plastic cornice, ensuring the reliability of the structure - it is best to choose aluminum frames, as they will last longer;
  • weights - due to them, the lamellas hang strictly vertically. As a rule, they are made of plastic or metal. Plastic is better because it does not corrode;
  • runners - elements that ensure the movement of the lamellas along the eaves;
  • a chain for connecting the lamellas at the bottom;
  • a chain that controls the movement of the blinds and their position.

Horizontal blinds are the most reliable. They best protect from the sun, are easy to install, easy to manage. Plus, it's a classic. These blinds do not take up space and can be mounted directly into the window opening. As a rule, they are used in kitchens, office premises, even in bedrooms. In addition to classic horizontal blinds, one should distinguish between attic and inter-frame. The first not only above, but also below are attached to skylight set at an angle so as not to sag. The latter differ in that they are built between the frames of the double-glazed window, and their control is brought out. Therefore, they take up almost no space.

Roller blinds consist of a shaft and fabric wound around it. When fully unwound, it closes the entire window, drastically reducing the amount of light in the room down to darkness. So that the fabric does not deteriorate from constant exposure to the sun, it is treated with impregnation.

An interesting option is pleated blinds. This is the same fabric, but it is tucked into a special device. Thanks to him, the fabric gathers into folds of the desired shape and retains appearance long time. The material used for the pleats is polyester, which is treated with an impregnation for UV resistance. In addition, it allows the material to be resistant to fire. Pleated, like fabric canvases, has many textures and shades. These canvases can be transparent or not let in sunlight at all, etc.

The last type of blinds is a combined design. It is also called "day-night", as it alternates elements with different light transmittance. Depending on the needs, you can adjust the flow of light into the room in a few movements. These blinds are ideal for sunny windows.

What material to choose for blinds

Blinds are distinguished not only by the type of structures, but also by the main material. So, there are fabric options, plastic, metal. But none of them is an ideal solution. To understand which design will be the best for a particular room, you need to consult with the designer. And, depending on the color of the walls, the size of the window and other characteristics, you can choose the option that will blend perfectly with the room.

Fabric blinds

Recently, fabric blinds have been especially appreciated, where instead of slats a dense impregnated canvas is used. This design is best combined with the living space, moreover, it is convenient to maintain. As a rule, the fabric is made from jacquard. This is a fabric characterized by a dense weave of fibers and, as a result, high reliability. Not worse in terms of consumer characteristics and fiberglass. It has fire resistance, and a similar risk exists everywhere. But how long the fabric for blinds will last depends not only on its type and the chosen impregnation. It is necessary to choose blinds with a dense canvas - this will increase the service life.

Plastic blinds

Plastic slats are used in offices, kitchens, living quarters, balconies, loggias, etc. It is quite cheap and affordable option so they are very popular. But if you want to buy robust design, it will be expensive. But such blinds almost do not need to be looked after, because they do not absorb dirt. And if a stain appears somewhere, it is very easy to remove it with wet cleaning.

Plastic blinds are highly durable, resistant to temperature extremes. But this cannot be said about cheap designs, so you need to buy only reliable material. Indeed, otherwise, under the influence of the sun, the plastic will turn yellow, and then it will completely become brittle.

Plastic blinds are worth buying if there is no desire to take care of anything. After all, the lamellas can be simply cleaned with a damp cloth or soapy water. Moreover, dust can be removed with a conventional vacuum cleaner - a minimum of energy and effort.

Wooden blinds

Those who like to use natural materials should consider investing in wooden blinds. Of course, this is one of the more expensive options, but it's worth it. The product looks original, original and suitable for both official premises and luxurious bedrooms. They make lamellas from Canadian linden, bamboo and other durable materials. But the care of the product is limited - the tree can only be wiped with a dry cloth or polish, as it deteriorates from moisture.

Metal blinds

Metal blinds are the least common. For residential premises, this is not a very acceptable option. Although they are strong, even light (they are now made of aluminum alloys), they have low aesthetics. But such structures will last a long time, will not deteriorate under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, and even more so moisture.

What you need to know when choosing blinds

Choosing blinds, first of all, you should focus on the interior of the room. The product, first of all, must be combined with it. And then pay attention to how convenient it is to use the design.

  1. Blinds can be attached in different ways. So, if they are mounted on a ceiling or wall, then you need to drill holes and use self-tapping screws. If the fasteners go to a plastic frame, this is not recommended. After all, this can ruin the window itself. Then it is better to purchase special brackets or industrial double-sided tape.
  2. It is important to choose the location of the blinds. The product can be mounted in a window opening. This is the best option for those who want not to clutter up the already small space of the apartment. But then all the flowers will have to be removed from the window sills so that the design is convenient to use. If you attach blinds in the form of curtains, then there will be enough space between them and the window.
  3. It is not easy to calculate all dimensions. It depends on several things. First, from where the blinds will be attached. If inside the window opening, then their height should be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. Otherwise, the slats will lie on the windowsill. If the blinds will hang on the cornice or ceiling, they should be 10-15 cm wider than the window opening in order to completely close it. Structures that will descend to the floor must hang above it at a distance of at least 5 cm.
  4. Before purchasing blinds, you need to decide how to control them (automatically or manually). If manually, then the user should be able to freely approach them.
  5. If the blinds are vertical, take into account which way they will fold. Indeed, in the assembled position, they can interfere with the opening of the window. Often because of this, separate canvases are installed on each window sash.

How to install blinds yourself

Installing blinds on a plastic window with your own hands is quite simple, following a clear algorithm. The principle of installation is as follows:

  • blinds are taken out of the package, all ropes, chains and fishing lines are unwound, decorative trims are removed that may interfere with installation;
  • The advantage of blinds is that they practically do not need to be looked after. However, sometimes care is needed. For plastic structures, this is a wet cleaning with a cloth and soapy water. And fabric and wooden blinds are cleaned of dust and dirt with dry means. But if fabric blinds need a more serious cleaning, then you can do it yourself:

    • remove weights and tightening chain;
    • sliders are removed from the lamellas and rolled up;
    • rolls are wrapped in gauze and placed in a washing solution;
    • cleaning takes place by soaking - nothing needs to be rubbed;
    • when the dirt from the lamellas is gone, they are taken out of the water and untwisted;
    • wet lamellas are installed back, and under the action of weights they return to their previous shape;
    • they wait for the fabric to dry, after which they check the operability of the structure - this completes the cleaning.

    Thus, blinds for the home are not one type of product, but a wide variety of designs, colors and materials. To choose perfect solution for your home, you need to study the offers on the market and, taking into account the design and operation features, choose the most optimal option.

    The complexity of choosing a particular type of blinds for windows lies in their huge variety. Depending on the country of origin, the company and the materials used, they have a different appearance, quality, respectively, and service life.

    Before buying blinds, you need to think very carefully about such important points, How:

    • the material from which they are made;
    • type of blinds (horizontal, vertical, roller blinds);
    • where they will be located.

    Video: How to choose blinds for plastic windows

    For kitchen you can choose blinds made of plastic, because they are not afraid of moisture and they are easy to clean. Fiberglass blinds are also suitable for the kitchen. This material does not burn and is very easy to dry clean.

    For bathroom and veranda you also need blinds that are resistant to moisture, so you can choose options for such rooms with plastic slats.

    To the bedroom and living room suitable fabric or multiimpressive blinds. They very beautifully imitate arches, lambrequin curtains, create the illusion of various relief parts of curtains, for example, flounces.

    Blinds are made up of many different accessories details:

    • cornice;
    • runners;
    • weights;
    • control mechanism;
    • lamellas.

    When ordering blinds from a company, you need to ask what exactly is included in the price. It may be that the brochure shows a low price, which actually refers only to the cost of the slats. In this case, a set of components will need to be paid separately.

    When choosing these or those blinds, you need to pay attention to the quality of parts made of plastic. The fact is that most of the components in the kit are made of PVC. Cornices are made of aluminum, lower chains and internal parts of weights are made of metal and plastic. The strength and durability of the operation of the entire mechanism of the blinds depends on the quality of the plastic parts.

    Whether the use of blinds will be comfortable and convenient for their owner, whether they will retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time, depends on how competently the buyer approaches their choice.

    Design features of blinds

    All blinds according to the type of construction can be divided into two groups:

    • vertical,
    • horizontal.

    The first, the lamellas of which are wider and perpendicular to the floor, in more are operated in premises, kindergartens and hospitals. The second - strips, which are located parallel to the surface of the ceiling, are used more often in retail and office premises.

    Blinds fastening methods

    Depending on the mounting method, there are blinds that are mounted on window sashes and outside the window (on the wall, frame, etc.)

    Outside the window opening, you can install both vertical and horizontal blinds. Only horizontal blinds can be fixed directly to the window sashes.

    How to open blinds

    When choosing blinds, you need to consider which opening method is best for you. There are two ways:

    • electromechanical,
    • manual.

    The second control method is suitable for homes and offices - where the windows are located at an accessible level. If the window openings are located very high, or if this is the upper part of the arched windows, the use of blinds with electromechanical control will be the most optimal.

    Venetian blind material

    From what material the blinds are made will depend on their cost and quality.

    Tree

    Blinds, the lamellas of which are made of wood, are a significant expense item. After all, the material is natural and expensive. Rare wood species are suitable for their manufacture: cork, Canadian linden, treated pine. In most cases, wood blinds are chosen by connoisseurs of eco-friendly and sophisticated interior components.

    Minuses

    • wooden blinds are quite weighty, so there are special requirements for their installation. As a rule, they are not made for large window openings;
    • caring for wooden blinds has its own characteristics - they cannot be washed, only wiped with a damp cloth and vacuumed.

    pros

    • like any other wood products, wooden blinds are environmentally friendly and safe for health;
    • such blinds have a long service life;
    • they are not afraid of the impact of negative factors: temperature changes, solar radiation, humidity, etc.;
    • the tree fits any style, it brings an atmosphere of luxury and comfort;
    • they are distinguished by a high level of strength and reliability.

    Aluminum

    Aluminum, due to the optimal ratio of price and quality, has become the most common material for the manufacture of blinds. This type allows you to choose the most optimal color scheme for any interior. The play of light and shadow, the variety of colors and shades makes the assortment wide and accessible at the same time.

    Minuses

    • the small thickness of the aluminum lamellas leads to their easy deformation;
    • their operation is undesirable in situations where windows are opened frequently;
    • in the process of airing the room or in the event of a draft, aluminum lamellas create noise.

    pros

    • ease of care - it is enough to wipe them with a damp cloth;
    • they have a reflective effect, which is important on hot summer days;
    • they have a long service life.

    Plastic

    Plastic is far from the last place in the production of blinds. This material is distinguished by good wear resistance, reasonable cost, attractive appearance and a variety of colors. Plastic is used in the production of both vertical and horizontal blinds. Due to the variety of shapes, textures and colors, such blinds can become an adornment of any interior.

    Minuses

    • during operation, plastic can change its original appearance under the influence of negative factors: heating, temperature changes, solar radiation;
    • low-quality plastic negatively affects health.

    pros

    • do not deform in the process of exposure to temperatures;
    • they are easy to keep clean;
    • have a high level of strength.

    Textile

    In the interior of residential premises, experts recommend giving preference to fabric blinds. To a greater extent, they have vertical lamellas, differ in a variety of shapes, textures and colors. Such blinds will fill the space with an atmosphere of comfort and coziness.

    The service life of this type of blinds depends on the density of the fabric, the same factor affects the level of light transmission.

    Minuses

    • in the case of using inexpensive fabric, burnout of the blinds and a significant reduction in their service life are possible.

    pros

    • high-quality fabric does not fade and does not lose its attractive appearance;
    • fabric blinds have a high level of strength;
    • these blinds are easy to care for - they can be washed.

    When choosing vertical blinds, pay attention to the following nuances:

    • whether the mechanism will stop during operation - the blinds should open easily and silently;
    • it is necessary to accurately calculate the width of the blinds - if you decide to fix them to the wall, you need to add 20-30 cm to the main width, in height they should be 2-3 cm less than the height of the window opening;
    • before buying, you need to decide in which direction the blinds will move;
    • blinds to the floor should not be back to back - 5 cm of free space must be left before them.

    How to check the quality of the installed structure?

    The most important thing is that this must be done in the presence of the master who installed the mechanism. To check, you need to close and open the mechanism, while changing the slope of the slats. If the plastic from which the parts of the mechanism are made is of high quality, then when turning, the runners do not creak or jam. The slats should open and close smoothly. The easier the slats move when changing the slope, the longer the service life of the blinds themselves will be.

    If defects were found during the inspection, the blinds installer must immediately eliminate them. In the event that it is not possible to eliminate the defect on the spot, the master is obliged to dismantle the entire mechanism and take it away for repair or replacement.

    In order to avoid troubles associated with the quality of component parts, it is best to order blinds from those companies that cooperate with reliable suppliers and have a good reputation in the market. Such firms necessarily provide warranty service free of charge. Each company provides its own warranty period, as a rule, it ranges from six months to 18 months.

    How to care for blinds

    In order for the installed mechanism to serve as long as possible, the lamellas must be rotated perpendicular to the plane of the window and only after that they should be moved apart or moved. In the event of a malfunction in the operation of the mechanism, it is best not to touch anything and seek help from the company that installed these blinds. You can get advice on the issue by phone. If, after consultation, it is still not possible to eliminate the malfunction on your own, then you need to invite a master who will fix everything. The fewer attempts were made to fix the problem on their own, the faster the master will make the repair.

    The simplest is maintenance of plastic and metal blinds. In order to keep them clean, it is enough to wipe them periodically with a damp cloth, while removing the accumulated dust. If there is a stronger contamination, then it is enough to wipe the lamellas with soapy water.

    For cleaning wooden blinds you can use a vacuum cleaner, even designed for wet cleaning. You can use the dry method to clean fiberglass blinds.

    More difficult clean fabric vertical blinds. To guarantee quality care, it is best to contact specialists, but you can do the cleaning yourself. First of all, you need to remove the slats. For this you need:

    1. remove the lower chain;
    2. take out weights;
    3. sequentially remove the lamellas from the runners.

    During washing, the slats can be deformed. To prevent this from happening, the lamellas need to be rolled up, wrapped in gauze so that they do not turn around and poured with soapy water. Do not rub or unfold the lamellas in water. After the dust and dirt come off, the lamellas need to be poured several times with clean cool water. Then, still wet, they are hung in place. Due to the weight of the weights and their own gravity, the lamellas will straighten and dry. In this case, a lot depends on the quality of the fabric. Poor quality fabric slats can warp at the edges and stretch out. That is why it is best to contact the appropriate company, which will clean the blinds professionally and without unpleasant consequences.

    For more than a long history of its existence - about seven hundred years - blinds have not lost their popularity and even continue to occupy a leading position. For a long time of its existence, the blinds have undergone significant changes and differ from the first samples. Now a large number of blinds are known, differing in shape, type, material. Blinds can be combined and combine several different materials. But all of them perform their main function - they protect the room from the exhausting sun during the day, prying eyes at night.

    Varieties of blinds

    There is such a wide range of goods on the market that it will not work without preparation. Each type of protective fabric has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. We can distinguish the following types of blinds:

    • horizontal;
    • vertical;
    • roll;
    • cassette;
    • roller;
    • pleated;
    • aluminum;
    • wooden;
    • fabric.

    You can also distinguish three groups of blinds, depending on the degree of protection from the sun:

    • light absorbing;
    • light-scattering;
    • reflective.

    Blinds Benefits

    Designs of this type are becoming more and more popular and this can be explained by high performance and attractiveness, blinds on the windows can transform any, the most primitive type of room. The ability to regulate the operation of such structures allows you to shade the room if desired or open it to light. Having systematized the possibilities of protective curtains, the following advantages of using lamellas stand out:

    • effectiveness in protecting the room from sunlight or prying eyes;
    • functionality;
    • space saving;
    • a wide range of products: material, design;
    • ease of care.

    Blinds can visually enlarge the room, make it brighter, more harmonious and more comfortable.

    How to choose blinds

    More recently, curtains made of fabric, tulle were in every dwelling and it was they who protected the windows, but now in apartments with modern design such curtains are becoming less and less common. Blinds have become popular and their variety allows you to choose high-quality and stylish, in harmony with the interior of the home. They are used because of their functionality, accessibility to maintenance, beautiful appearance.

    The choice of protective elements for plastic windows must be treated with great responsibility. Curtains should not just be bought, but matched to the interior, color scheme rooms and general style. Also, do not buy curtains for which it is recommended to drill plastic profile. No matter how carefully such work is done, they will spoil the integrity of the canvas.

    To opt for a particular sample, you need to figure out how the existing models differ and what is the advantage of each of them.

    According to the location of the lamella, the curtains are divided into two types:

    • vertical;
    • horizontal.

    The material from which the product is made can be different, but the most popular are plastic, fabric, aluminum, wood.

    When choosing a window protection design, decide what you need by answering the following questions:

    • designs of which direction you would like to purchase;
    • what material should the blinds be made of;
    • what size, width of panels;
    • what desired texture of your future protective curtains is preferable;
    • what color would you like to purchase.

    Horizontal blinds for plastic windows

    Vertical blinds appeared much later than horizontal ones. Horizontal ones are most often used in the premises of state buildings, because they give the room a strict and business style. But the versatility of such curtains lies in the fact that in classic kitchens, and in modern bedrooms they look great. But to create a cozy atmosphere in private dwellings, designers are advised to add fabric curtains.

    Blinds, the vast majority of them, do not absorb unpleasant odors, tolerate temperature differences, high humidity and direct sunlight well. This allows you to close any premises.

    When installing blinds of this design, you can choose how to install the plates:

    Decide on the width of the plates of the structure:

    • one and a half centimeters;
    • two and a half centimeters;
    • five centimeters.

    Blinds can be controlled with a remote control.

    The main thing when buying horizontal blinds is not to forget about proportionality: in small rooms blinds with narrow slats are installed, in large and spacious ones - with wide ones.

    Vertical blinds for plastic windows

    Vertical blinds can be used in rooms of any type and style. Such designs are durable, practical and stylish. Thanks to the longitudinally arranged plates, it is possible to adjust the amount of sunlight that is let in.

    When choosing vertical blinds, it must be taken into account that they have two slat widths - nine and twelve and a half centimeters. This must be taken into account when installing in rooms. Designs with wide plates in large spacious rooms will look harmonious.

    Curtains are removed from the surface of the windows very simply, it is enough to move them to the side using a special mechanism.

    Curtains of this design are more practical and durable, since in the event of a breakdown of any of the structural elements, the part can be easily replaced with a new one.

    Vertical designs are suitable for any premises. They consist of the following main parts:

    • cornice - it can be plastic or aluminum, the latter option is preferable, as it is much stronger and more reliable;
    • lamellas or strips are of two types: wide and narrow;
    • runners - help open and close the structure;
    • weights - protect the panels from deformation, there are three types of weights;
    • connecting chain for mounting panels at the bottom of the structure, the quality of the part can be recognized by the shade, the lighter the element, the better;
    • the operating mechanism - for turns of a lamella, shifting and pushing apart of elements.

    Blinds on windows made of plastic and fabric

    If you decide to install blinds, decide on the material from which the curtains will be made. Plastic lamellas are leading among other options, as they:

    • suitable for any style of premises;
    • made in a horizontal position are combined with fabric curtains;
    • do not undergo deformation under physical impact;
    • easy to clean;
    • are not electrified.

    But we should not forget that plastic does not tolerate high temperatures Therefore, it is not recommended to place plastic curtains in close proximity to heat sources.

    Fabric blinds can be of this type:

    • polyester;
    • jacquard;
    • cotton;
    • fiberglass.

    Fabric curtains can be different density, there is no need to save. A product made of thin material will burn out faster in the sun, and will lose its shape when streaking. Also, the density of the material affects the ability to retain light; if it is necessary to close windows facing the south side, it is advisable to choose a dense material.

    When choosing among a variety of materials for fabric lamellas, do not forget that:

    • polyester strips last the longest, do not wrinkle or bend, do not lose their shape and color during washing, the price for such blinds is lower than for other options;
    • natural fabrics are recognized as environmentally friendly, but often “sit down” during washing and do not respond well to dry cleaning;
    • jacquard curtains will add sophistication to the room, objects made of this material do not deteriorate in the sun and during the cleaning process;
    • fiberglass structures are optimal solution for bathrooms and kitchens, they are moisture-repellent, fireproof.

    Often people refuse to buy fabric blinds, citing the fact that they quickly become dusty, lose their appearance and cause allergic diseases. In fact, each strip of the structure is impregnated with a dust-repellent solution and does not absorb dust.

    To wash fabric blinds, it is necessary to detach the slats and wash them with your hands without using force. Dry the strips in a vertical position.

    When buying fabric designs, do not try to purchase the most inexpensive ones, it is better to purchase high-quality, reliable things that will last for some time and will not lose their appearance after the first wash.

    Advantages and disadvantages of blinds made of aluminum, bamboo, wood

    Aluminum blinds can be used in the kitchen, close to sources of fire, as they are covered with a special agent, fire-retardant enamel. Among the advantages of such structures are the following:

    • ease of maintenance;
    • wide range color palette structures;
    • optimal cost of goods;
    • the choice of the arrangement of the slats: horizontal or vertical.

    Among the inconveniences created aluminum blinds, it can be noted that they make unpleasant sounds when air moves in a draft.

    wooden structures suitable for interiors in modern and country style. They look organic on their own or paired with curtains. The material for the blinds are trees of valuable species, they are not cheap, but very practical and durable. Wooden structures enjoy well-deserved recognition:

    • environmentally friendly material;
    • non-allergenic, does not cause allergies, safe for allergy sufferers;
    • presented in a wide range of colors;
    • long service life;
    • ease of care;
    • protection from the bright sun;
    • a special coating protects the room from ultraviolet radiation.

    But with a large number of positive aspects, one should not forget that wood is not a moisture-resistant material, and in a room where the humidity is at least slightly higher than normal, it is not recommended to use such structures.

    As for bamboo structures, they have similar characteristics to wooden blinds, but bamboo curtains are not afraid of moisture and can be installed in rooms with high humidity: bathrooms, loggias, laundries.

    How to care for blinds

    In order for the structure not to lose its appearance, it is necessary to properly care for it. Some types of coatings are easy to care for, others require more care. Plastic structures are easy to clean with warm soapy water and dry without problems. Wooden and fiberglass need only dry cleaning and react extremely negatively to wet cleaning their surfaces. All these nuances should be taken into account so that improper care does not spoil the thing. Fabric the most whimsical and demanding care:

    • before cleaning, tissue fragments should be removed;
    • remove all additional structures;
    • each strip must be rolled into a non-tight roll, immersed in a gauze bag;
    • dip all strips into a container of soapy water;
    • it is forbidden to rub or wrinkle the material, it must simply be immersed in water;
    • after five to ten minutes, immerse the bags in clean water and allow the strips to lie in the water, rinse;
    • get the strips and immediately, without letting them dry, put them in their place;
    • under the weight constituent parts the lamellas will take their shape.

    It is necessary to approach the issue of choosing lamellas responsibly. If you choose blinds without taking into account the features of the room, then they will not only not become a decoration of the house, but they will also look ridiculous. Among the advice of experts on choosing blinds, it is necessary to highlight the following:

    • for small-sized rooms, light structures should be installed - this will visually make the room bigger and give it a touch of comfort;
    • in spacious rooms with large windows it is more expedient to use blinds of dark shades;
    • when choosing a color, it is necessary to take into account the purpose of the room, for children's rooms and bedrooms it is recommended to use light, delicate colors, for living rooms, kitchens, you can use bright materials;
    • when choosing the type of blinds, it is necessary to choose the right length of the product - it is better to entrust this important matter to a specialist who will measure the window openings and take into account all the details;
    • during the purchase of structures, it is necessary to pay special attention to the correct operation of the mechanism, the plates must open and close smoothly, simultaneously, without jerks;
    • buying goods at a very low price, such a purchase will bring short-term joy, and then there will be problems that accompany cheap goods.

    Designs are installed in two options:

    • in the window opening;
    • on the window opening.

    In the window opening, the height of the structure should be two centimeters less than the height of the window opening. Such an installation will be possible only with perfectly even window sills, otherwise the blinds will look unaesthetic.

    At the window opening, the width of the structure should be four to five centimeters greater than the width of the window. Among the wide variety of blinds, everyone can choose those that will suit a particular home, style and preferences. If you have questions about what blinds are, how to choose the most suitable ones. Article outline:

    Types of blinds

    According to the principle of design features, blinds are divided into:
    • vertical;

    • horizontal;

    • pleated;

    • roller blinds;

    • cassette.

    "Classics of the genre" are. This type provides excellent protection against exposure to the sun and rising room temperatures. The design of this type of blinds is very simple and effective. There is an opinion that horizontal blinds are less reliable. However, experts say that the only drawback of devices of this type is the failure of the entire system if one lamella breaks down.

    Can be interframe (mounted between window frames) and internal (mounted on inner surface windows).

    Opening and closing control is very simple and convenient. Blinds of the horizontal type do not create obstacles for the circulation of indoor air from the street, facilitating ventilation. This type of blinds can be used as room dividers into separate zones in offices and apartments. Thanks to the choice of material and color schemes, such blinds can decorate any interior.

    They are a more modern trend and bear a clear imprint of classic curtains. They go well with large windows, bay windows, arches and sliding doors. In this type of blinds, the slats are arranged perpendicular to the floor surface. They are equipped with a comfortable control mechanism that rotates the slats at any angle around its axis. This makes it possible to create different degrees of illumination in the room. Vertical blinds are moved apart with a cord, like curtains. Materials for vertical blinds are in most cases impregnated with antistatic and dust-repellent solutions. This prevents the accumulation of dust on them. Rolled up, slatted blinds vertical view very easy to wash in the washer.

    - This is a curtain made from a single piece of pleated fabric, which, if necessary, is gathered in folds. The system is installed directly on the window and allows you to close the opening of any size and form factor. Closing-opening is realized with the help of a cord and a weight, which makes the lower part of the curtain heavier. This type of blinds well protects the room from the sun's rays. The abundance of colors and textures allows you to fit these curtains into any interior.

    - are a sheet of perforated fabric that retains sunlight, wound on a special roller. This type of blind can be lowered to any level, like a horizontal type device. The fabric of the roller blind creates a light scattering effect, in which you see what is happening outside the window, while remaining out of sight for observers outside. These curtains do not create obstacles for opening the window, help save space. They can be free-hanging or housed in a box. If the roller blind is equipped with guides, this allows it to fit snugly against the window, providing more effective protection. Depending on the material of this type of blinds, you can achieve complete darkness in the room. This is useful, for example, to implement the intention to arrange a home movie viewing on a home theater with a projector.

    There are also metal shutters. However, they provide an intruder prevention function and are installed outside windows.

    They have a mechanism similar to roller blinds. The difference is the conclusion of the curtains in a kind of "cassette" - a box with guides. The box is mounted directly on the sash, so the curtain does not interfere with the mobility of the window, protecting it well from ultraviolet radiation.

    In accordance with the level of light protection blinds can be:
    • reflective;

    • light-scattering;

    • light absorbing.

    In accordance with the material of the blinds are:
    • Aluminum - the metal provides strength and reliability of the structure, has reflective properties, reflects thermal radiation, is easy to maintain and clean.

    • Wooden - an environmentally friendly material combined with excellent thermal and light insulation, various color solutions make this kind of blinds great option for any interior. Blinds made of bamboo look especially exotic.

    • Faux wood - the material consists of synthetic elements interspersed with natural wood, has moisture resistance and high sun protection properties. More affordable than wood

    • Fabric - have a good antistatic effect, are easy to wash and, thanks to the rich colors and the possibility of photo decoration, they look stylish and fit into the framework of any room design.

    • Plastic - their advantage is, however, the sun protection properties of this type of blinds leave much to be desired.

    • Multiimpressive - are a combination various materials which gives them a very stylish look that can decorate any room.

    The choice of blinds for plastic windows

    differ from other types of windows in a tilt-and-turn mechanism. Therefore, so that the blinds do not hang out ridiculously and do not interfere, it is necessary to choose their appropriate design.

    For this type of windows, roller blinds with guides and cassette blinds are best suited. The advantage of these types of blinds is the fact that they are mounted directly on the window sash. This allows you to visually increase the volume of the room, while providing effective protection from sunlight. The window sill also remains free, which is undoubtedly very convenient in places with a limited area: in the bathroom, on the balcony, kitchen and others.

    Another advantage of these types of blinds on plastic windows is the ability to carry out various manipulations with the window without removing the curtains.

    If you are not satisfied with the minimalism of this type of blinds, you can always use them at the same time as classic curtains and tulles.

    The choice between roller blinds and cassette blinds in most cases is determined by the design of the premises, the ultimate goals of arranging the premises, and the level of contamination. An important factor will be the floor on which the room is located, since dust and automobile exhausts do not reach a height of 5-7 floors. It is also important to take into account the proximity of the windows of neighboring houses in order to calculate the density of the fabric in order to hide your privacy from the immodest glances of strangers.

    Horizontal cassettes are more resistant to dirt, high humidity and temperature extremes. They are easy to clean from dirt, and they are extremely durable and resistant to fading in the sun.

    Because of the beauty of roller blinds and the delicacy of the fabrics, they are preferred in bedrooms and living rooms. The intensity of the light flux can be adjusted by selecting suitable fabrics.

    Choosing blinds for wooden windows

    There are no fundamental differences when choosing blinds for windows with wooden shutters. It is possible to use all types of blinds, focusing solely on the interior design of the room and on your taste preferences.

    However, a few recommendations of an aesthetic nature would be useful.

    Blinds made of natural materials will look more organically on wooden frames. A wooden window frame with wooden or bamboo horizontal blinds will be especially interesting and unusual. In combination with simple eco-style furniture, this will give the room a certain flavor of naturalness and originality.

    In the case of a decent ceiling height in the room, it is advisable to purchase horizontal blinds. This will visually increase the volume of the room. Well, if the ceilings are low, vertical blinds will correct the situation. They will give the ceiling the illusion of height.

    The best choice of blinds for a balcony or loggia

    First of all, it should be mentioned that blinds mounted on the sash are not suitable for aluminum balcony glazing frames. Firstly, such a type of them can be mounted on metal at the cost of great effort. Secondly, design features frame sashes will prevent normal opening and closing if there are blinds of this type on them.

    It should also be borne in mind that we very often leave balconies open for the purpose of ventilation. Therefore, the blinds on the balcony will be subject to frequent and intense polluting influences.

    Vertical blinds should not be mounted on a balcony for several reasons. Often the ceilings on the balcony are made of plastic, which makes it impossible to mount vertical blinds on them. Also, vertical blinds will hide a tiny balcony area. The presence of several shutters of the balcony frame makes it difficult to install the blinds control unit.

    The best, as it seems to us, will be the choice of roller blinds, cassette blinds and ordinary horizontal types. Their use will save space and provide comfort during operations with balcony glazing sashes.

    Blinds or curtains - making a difficult choice

    First of all, it is of course a matter of taste and aesthetic preferences. Consider the pros and cons of both curtains and blinds.

    They have advantages in the field of decor. They create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort in the room. You can choose the colors and texture of the fabric that will create the right mood and style of the room. The disadvantages include:

    • quite relative protection from sunlight;

    • difficult .

    • weak variability in regulating the degree of illumination of the room;

    • obstruction of normal air circulation during ventilation in a curtained state;

    • the ability of curtain fabric to accumulate dust, which can provoke the occurrence of allergic reactions of the body;

    • hiding the volume of the room and limiting the possibility of using the window sill.

    Blinds have great opportunities for the implementation of design ideas. They effectively perform the function of light control and heat reflection, prevent the penetration of sunlight into the room. They also visually expand the space of the room, freeing the window sill, providing freedom of operations with window sashes.

    The disadvantages include:

    • higher maintenance complexity compared to conventional curtains;

    • a tendency to evoke associations with an office or other official institution, which not everyone will like;

    • blinds made of artificial materials can emit a not very pleasant smell of "chemistry" when heated.

    1. in the window opening. The width of the blinds with this installation option should be one to two centimeters shorter than the width of the opening. We pay attention to the angle of the slopes of the window, since this parameter greatly affects the width of the opening. The height of the slats should be one and a half centimeters shorter than the height of the window opening. The possibility of installing blinds in the opening is provided for if there are aligned window sills. The lack of parallelism of the window sill line with the upper edge of the window significantly spoils the aesthetics. In this case, it is necessary to mount blinds with variable height. The plumb line of the control cord should be fifteen centimeters shorter than the height of the blinds.

    2. Installation of blinds on the window opening. The width of the blinds in this case should be equal to the width of the window plus three centimeters. If, due to the presence of heating pipes, the blinds will be mounted with some indentation from the wall, about fifteen to twenty centimeters should be added to the width. The height of the slats is calculated by adding to the height window opening another ten centimeters. If it is necessary to hide the window sill, the length of the slats can reach the floor. It is best to fix the eaves of vertical blinds to the ceiling. This will ensure the reliability of fixing the structure.
