A plastic window, even the highest quality and correctly installed, requires periodic maintenance. It can stand for several years without any problems, but over time, friction can be felt when opening or closing. The second problem is that it blows from under the seal, and the third is that the handle turns with effort. All these breakdowns are not complicated and are easily eliminated and it is not at all necessary to call the master: adjusting plastic windows on your own is a matter of minutes. All you need to do is tighten or loosen a few screws. The main thing is to know where and how. More on this later in photo and video format.

Winter and summer mode

Most often, adjustment of plastic windows is required for the new season: complete tightness is desirable in winter, and in summer you can let in some fresh air. This is achieved by adjusting the sash pressure density. It's easy to do it yourself. When you figure it out, you will be surprised how elementary everything is ...

The window sash is pressed against the frame with the help of trunnions. These are such movable metal protrusions on the side surface of the sash. When the handle is turned, they go behind the reciprocal metal plates mounted on the frame. In order to be able to adjust the tightness of the fit of the sash and frame, they have an eccentric - either they themselves are made oval, or there is an adjustment with an offset center in the center of the round protrusion. By changing the position of the pins (see photo), you change the degree of pressure, that is, you eliminate the draft from under the sash.

As you can see, the shapes of the locking ledges can be different. Various tools can be used to adjust them. If your window has such eccentrics as in the picture on the left - oval-shaped protrusions - their position is changed with the help of pliers: clamp it and turn it in the right direction.

If the locking lug is round, as shown on the left, it can be slotted for a screwdriver or hex wrench. After examining them, you can easily understand what tool you need: a regular screwdriver or a #4 hex key. Insert a key or screwdriver into the slot and also turn it to the desired position.

Expose all the protrusions to the same position. Please note that they are not only on one side of the sash - the outer one, but also on the inside (at least one, but there is), and can also be at the top and bottom. Here you set all the available locking protrusions to the same position, otherwise the frame will warp and it will blow out from under it.

When adjusting the fittings of plastic windows, remember that a weak pressure corresponds to the summer mode of closing plastic windows, a standard or strong one corresponds to the winter one. If you carry out maintenance work in the winter, first set the standard position and check if there is a purge. Immediately pinch the rubber bands on new ones pvc windows do not advise. In this position, the rubber seal installed around the perimeter is strongly pressed. Because of this, it loses its elasticity over time. The guarantee for a normal seal is 15 years, but still ... If you immediately set the maximum pressure, the rubber will deteriorate faster. As a result, once again setting the winter position on plastic windows, you will find that it is still blowing from under the sash, and the rubber is all cracked. This means it's time to change the seal. This is also not very difficult, but it takes more time, and tires still need to be bought.

So: the winter and summer position of plastic windows is set by changing the position of the locking ledges - trunnions. Everything is detailed in the video below. After viewing, adjusting plastic windows on your own will finally cease to be a problem.

How to adjust the window so that it does not blow

Sometimes, plastic windows, even after moving the trunnions to the position of strong pressure, are not airtight - it blows from under the sash and replacing the rubber band does nothing. This usually happens when the house shrinks. In this case, the window is said to be sagging. When this happens, contact between the locking lug and striker plate is lost. When the handle is turned, the protrusion-pin should go behind the plate, pressing the sash. If this does not happen and drafts occur, heat is blown out of the room.

Where are the trunnions (clamping lugs) usually located?

When subsidence plastic window the adjustment is different: you need to move the sash in a groan so that those protrusions that do not reach the plates catch on them.

First you need to decide which of the pins do not reach the locking plates. This is done mechanically. First, inspect the sash, remember where there are protrusions. Close the window. Grab the sash frame at the pins and pull it towards you.

If there is contact, the frame remains stationary; if not, it moves. So you check in which places there is no contact and determine in which direction you need to move the sash. Do this by adjusting the lower and upper loops.

Bottom hinge adjustment

If the PVC window does not close somewhere below, we will move the sash with the help of the lower hinge. There are two adjustments here: one in the horizontal plane - moves closer to the hinge or further from it, and the second - in the vertical one - raises or lowers the sash by a couple of millimeters.

To move the lower part of the sash closer or further to the hinge, it is opened. At the bottom of the sing there is an adjustment hole for a hex key (sometimes for an “asterisk”).

A hexagon is inserted into it, by turning clockwise the lower corner approaches the loop, against it it moves away. Move the sash a little, try to close / open it. Once the result is achieved, stop. If the resource is turned out to the stop, but there is no result, return everything to its original position: this is not the right adjustment.

This screw can correct the situation if, when closing the window, the sash touches the frame below. Slightly bringing it closer to the loop, you will eliminate this malfunction.

There is a second adjusting screw on the bottom hinge. To get to it, you need to put the sash on the air and remove the decorative trim. It is removed easily, you need to pull the lower edge slightly towards you (by 1-2 mm) and pull it up. After removing the protective cap, you will see a recess in the upper part. A 4 mm hexagon is inserted into it. By turning clockwise, the sash rises slightly, against it, it lowers.

It is described in detail how to remove the decorative trim on the hinge, how and how to adjust the lower hinge on the PVC window in the next video.

Top hinge adjustment

If the upper corner on the plastic window does not close, you need to move it. To do this, open the window at least 90 °. It is possible and less, but it will be inconvenient to work. There is a loop on the sash at the top. By design, it differs from the bottom, but it also has a hole for the hexagon.

The adjustment screw is on the side. By rotating it, we move the sash further from the hinge (if the trunnions farthest from the hinge do not close) or closer to the hinge. One point - there should be a gap of several millimeters between the sash and the hinge: it is necessary for the tilt-and-turn mechanism to enter there. Therefore, turning the key half a turn, check how the window opens / closes.

Sometimes this adjustment does not help either. Then it is required press the top corner to the frame. There is another screw for this - on the swing-out mechanism. To have access to this screw, you will have to open the window in two positions at once. To do this, the sash is opened, the blocker is pressed. It usually comes in two designs - in the form of a locking loop or a tongue (see the photo below).

The blocker is retracted to the stop, holding it, turn the handle to ventilate, pulling the upper edge of the sash slightly towards you, open the rotary mechanism. A device that holds the sash open. On one of the plates there is a ledge for the same hex key. By turning it, you can adjust the tightness of the upper corner of the sash. It is necessary if the upper corner of the plastic window does not close.

Once again, you can see how to adjust the plastic windows yourself in the video. Explanations on the case, available and without further ado.

Plastic window won't close

Sometimes the geometry of the window opening changes so much that even by moving the sash to the maximum, we do not get the desired result: the plastic window does not close. What to do in this case? If there is an adjustment on the counterpart, as in option a and b in the photo, try to get by with a little blood - tighten it up here. The principle is the same: insert the hex key and rotate it clockwise, pushing it to the maximum.

If a few millimeters are missing not in depth, but to the side, then will have to be installed under the mating part of the lining. They are cut from a piece of white plastic. The maximum thickness is 3-4 mm. First, by unscrewing the screws, the stops are removed. Two gaskets are cut out: one is installed from below, the second is from the side. As a result, the stop moves 3 mm deeper into the sash.

They are first installed at the right place of the lining, on them there is an emphasis, which is screwed with a self-tapping screw. The protruding pieces of plastic are cut off with a sharp knife. Check if the window is closed or not.

If this does not help, there is another way: move the sash frame. It is quite elastic and can be moved about 5 mm. The procedure is as follows:

If you look closely, you can see that the frame is slightly curved. The main thing is that the window is now closed. In 99% of cases this is enough. If you are unlucky, and all these tricks did not work, you need to remove the slopes and also bend the frame.

You can watch all the steps described above in the video.

Adjustment and replacement of handles

A fairly common problem: the handle turns with difficulty. If the problem is not fixed in time, due to the excessive efforts applied, it breaks down, leaving a short stump, which you definitely can’t do anything about.

First, how to make the handle close easily again. Locking mechanisms must first be cleaned and lubricated. First, accumulated dust and dirt are removed, wiped dry, then all moving parts are lubricated. You need to use pure oils, without alkalis and acids. The best option- engine oil, any analogue or modern facility from a balloon.

Having lubricated all the rubbing and moving parts, open / close the sash several times, turn it on its hinges. Everything should move smoothly, without jerks.

If there are problems now, most likely in the process of adjustments or changes in the geometry of the window, the blocker has shifted. It should easily enter the mating part and press firmly against the frame. Then the handle turns easily. Move the sash and try again.

Now about how to change the handle. The fasteners on which it rests are hidden under a decorative overlay. If you look closely, you will see that there is a thin cap. Grab it with your fingers or hook it with your nails, pull it slightly towards you and turn it to one side. Two bolts open. They are unscrewed, the handle is removed, a new one is put in its place.

We've covered the most common problems and how to fix them. Now, not only adjusting plastic windows is not a problem for you, you can also make minor repairs on your own. You can also carry out service yourself (lubrication once a year).

Plastic windows have long established themselves as reliable and durable frames that preserve temperature regime rooms and do not allow drafts to penetrate. Many install plastic, but do not carry out maintenance and forget about the intricacies of use in the form of switching to seasonal mode and other necessary details.

Proper adjustment of plastic windows and timely maintenance is the basis of a long service life, which excludes sudden expensive repairs.

Sash adjustment

Often, adjustment of window fittings is necessary when the installation work is of poor quality, when the structure is not aligned vertically and horizontally. It is also required in case of natural wear and tear, when the sashes begin to touch the frame and fittings. In the event of a loose fit, the windows begin to let in cold air and drafts appear. Instructions for self-adjusting plastic windows will help save a significant amount on the services of third-party specialists.

To work, you need simple tools:

  • hex key;
  • screwdriver.

Inspect the window to determine the installed fittings, since the adjustment will directly depend on this factor. In one case, the sash will need to be removed, in the other it will be sufficient to tighten the fixing screw.

Horizontal and vertical adjustment

On the horizontal side, the sash must be adjusted in the event of a bevel of the frame, provoked by shrinkage of the structure, incorrect opening of the window or loose fixtures of the fittings. To fix the problem, you need to go to the top window hinge insert the hex wrench by turning clockwise until the sash is far enough away.

In this case, the lower part of the oppositely standing element should noticeably drop. Adjustment of the lower hinge is carried out from the outside. Shifts average 2 mm.

Diagram of main position correction points

You can vertically adjust the window using hinged loop located at the bottom of the frame. The protective cap is removed from the loop and the rotational movements of the tuning mechanism begin. Clockwise movement of the tool will raise the sash, movement in the opposite direction will lower it.

The adjustment of plastic structures should be smooth so that the mechanisms move no more than 1 mm in one approach.

The sash stopped closing: a solution to the problem

The pressure adjustment must be made when the window is difficult to move from open position in closed. Often the reason is the lock device, which does not allow turning the handle. The exact sequence of actions depends on the specific manufacturer. Some copies are equipped with a thin plate equipped with a spring on the inside, which must be pressed and the handle turned to close the window. Other specimens are equipped with a tongue under the handle - when pressed on it, the lock of the adjusted mechanism is removed.

If the sash stops closing, you need to unlock the lock

In a situation where the window still does not want to close, minor repairs will be required. It is necessary to open the sash, find the element of the mechanism that serves as a hook for the tongue, unscrew and install a thin plate from the inside. The solution contributes to the shift of the mechanism closer to the counter element. As a result, the touch area will increase, allowing you to easily close the window.

Presser density adjustment

The plastic window clamp is quite easy to set up if you follow a simple sequence of actions. Find in the handle area located at the side end, a system of eccentrics that serve as the main adjustment tool.

Winter and summer mode adjustable via trunnions

Their external design may be somewhat different depending on the manufacturer of the window, but the principle of operation is the same, whatever their variety.

Options for the appearance of eccentrics

When it is necessary to adjust the pressure on the side of the window hinges, you need to turn to the adjusting screw located on the bottom of the hinges. At swing-out doors they make additional setting using the top loop.

In order to successfully reach the adjustment bolt located on the scissors next to the top hinge, you need to open the window, press the lock tab and set the handle to the ventilation mode. When it is necessary to press the sash against window frame, the bolt rotates clockwise. Rotating in the opposite direction will weaken the tightness of the contiguity.

By adjusting the tilt-and-turn scissors, you can adjust the degree of window pressure

The method of adjusting window fittings depends on the manufacturer, since there are varieties that are adjusted with screwdrivers located on the side of the handles. Others fit only hexagons. In order to increase the pressure, the bar is carefully shifted to the street side. If you look at the hinges, you can see the retractable clamping elements. A smaller extension will provide a weak fit, and a larger one will press the sash tightly against the frame.

Cleaning accessories from accumulated dust

Once every 5-7 years, windows need deep cleaning from accumulated dirt in hard-to-reach places. If you do not clean them in time, sooner or later you will have to repair them, since the functioning will be impaired. Repair is quite laborious in terms of the weight of the structure, so it is advisable to carry out work with assistants.

Scheme for adjusting elements to bring them clean and tidy:

  1. remove the sash from the hinges by removing the overhead frame elements;
  2. take out the upper axle;
  3. remove the sash from the lower hinges;
  4. carefully set aside.

Removal of elements must be done with an assistant

The surface of the sash is carefully inspected and the screws fixed to it are unscrewed. The parts of the mechanism are washed well, preferably using specialized solutions that are easy to apply with a brush. After that, the design is well dried in the fresh air or with the help of cold air from a hair dryer. Lubrication is applied to each driving mechanism. The fittings are assembled in the reverse order and installed in their original place.

Before assembling the window, all fittings must be lubricated

Repairing window handles

Questions about adjusting window frames are quite often related to the operation of handles, since periodically they can break or lose functionality. It is important to remember that plastic window handles require periodic attention, since more often than other parts they are subject to rapid wear: sometimes they need repair or complete replacement.

Timely adjustment is the best solution to the problem of handles losing functionality. So, a fairly loose handle requires tightening the fasteners, which can be done in a matter of minutes, since this breakdown is one of the simplest types of repair work.

Locate the decorative trim in the shape of a rectangle under the handle, hook lightly on both edges with your fingers and turn 90°. Under the trim there are a couple of bolts that need to be tightened with a Phillips screwdriver.

Under the decorative trim are bolts that are tightened with a screwdriver

To lift the plate covering the bolts, do not use tools, as there is a possibility of damaging the profile surface and breaking the shape of the plug element.

Another common problem is the sticking of the handle, which periodically does not turn on required angle. In this case, you need to lubricate the fasteners with engine oil using a cotton swab. A special spray or silicone lubricant is also suitable.

The sticking problem of the handle can be solved by lubricating the fasteners with oil.

For replacement, the handle is rotated by 90° and the cover in the form of holding screws is removed. The unscrewed element is easy to replace by installing the screws in the same sequence. Repair of plastic windows with a complete replacement of fittings is inevitable if the handle is thoroughly jammed. Cases are extremely rare, but they do happen.

Do-it-yourself adjustment will not be difficult for owners, since the whole procedure is quite simple. It is only important to approach the setting with a share of responsibility and follow the instructions clearly.

Hello dear readers!

We did a general house cleaning.

While the wife was washing the windows, it turned out that the handles were a little loose. Pulling them up is easy if you know how to do it. I have already taught my wife.

Now I gathered my thoughts and decided to write a useful post for you.

I tried to collect all the advice in detailed instructions, in which you will find not only information about setting up handles, but also a lot of other things.

You just have to try them out.

Active use plastic windows in today's realities is caused by a number of advantages of these structural elements.

And if such indicators of windows as reliability, durability and aesthetics were originally incorporated into their design, then in order to obtain high-quality consumer criteria (heat, noise insulation), it is advisable to implement them in a timely manner. Maintenance systems.

Moreover, in order for the adjustment of plastic windows to be done at the highest level with your own hands, it will be enough just to stock up on a minimum set of tools (a set of “star” keys, pliers, a set of hexagons, screwdrivers) and fixtures.

The list of main malfunctions that can be eliminated by the consumer on their own includes the following items:

  • Rubbing the sash window on the frame in the process of its opening - closing;
  • Loose fit of the sash to the base of the window frame;
  • Handle breakage.

Do-it-yourself PVC window adjustment

To begin with, it is desirable to consider in detail the method of adjusting the window. So, if it is necessary to change the location of the sash (for free opening), then it is advisable to perform a series of sequential procedures:

  1. Open window;
  2. Turn the adjusting screw located in the end part of the sash (upper hinge area) 3-5 turns clockwise;
  3. Close a window;
  4. Remove the protection from the bottom loop;
  5. Using a hexagon, turn the lower hinge adjusting screw 3 to 5 turns clockwise;
  6. Check the operation of the window and the absence of rubbing during operation, and if necessary, re-adjust the element.

In a situation where it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, proceed as follows. First, for these purposes, a system of eccentrics is used, which are located on the end of the sash from the side where the handle is located.

Helpful advice!

When it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, an eccentric system is used

Why the eccentrics with the help of pliers or a hexagon must be rearranged to the appropriate position.

In some window models, the designs of the eccentrics are made in such a way that in order to adjust them, it is enough just to pull the eccentric towards you, then make the necessary rotation, and after that release the eccentric (it will be pressed due to the spring).

In general, experts recommend performing a similar procedure for adjusting eccentrics twice a year (off-season period), increasing or decreasing the degree of pressing.

However, by this method, it is possible to ensure the adjustment of the pressing of the window from the side where the handle is located. When the user needs to increase the pressing of the sash from the side of the canopies, they do it in a different way.

So, if it is necessary to provide a stronger pressing of the sash (from the side of the awnings) window construction rotary type, then use the adjusting screw on the bottom loop.

When it is required to perform a similar procedure for a tilt-and-turn design, it will be necessary to perform additional adjustment of the window sash pressure due to the upper hinge.

For what it is necessary to perform the procedures in the following sequence:

  1. Open the sash;
  2. Turn the sash handle to the "ventilation" position (simulating the closing of the window by pressing the blocker);
  3. To increase the pressure on the sash, turn the adjusting screw on the hinge clockwise, while to loosen the pressure, turn the knob in the opposite direction.

Certain types of window fittings are adjusted using special taps (usually located on the window frame from the side of the handle) that can be adjusted using hex keys.

So, for a stronger pressing of the window sash to the base of the frame, you will need to move the answer outward (towards the street). They also use clamping mechanisms located on the frame from the side of the canopies.

Their adjustment is carried out with a hexagon, while a stronger pressure of the sash to the frame will be provided when the tongue of the mechanism is extended more strongly.

A fairly common defect in a metal-plastic window is the tight rotation of the handle. Often this circumstance is caused by the fact that the fittings do not have sufficient lubrication.

In this case, window repair comes down to banal lubrication of the locking mechanism and all rubbing elements with machine oil or aerosol lubricant (for example, WD-40).

A similar method is used to adjust the doors of balcony blocks.

In a situation where it is necessary to completely replace the handle, you should pull the decorative trim of the handle towards you with your fingers and then turn it 90 º (in order to free access to the screws).

By unscrewing the fixing screws, the handle can be easily removed. And the procedure for fixing a new handle must be performed in reverse order.

It should be noted that the guarantee of long-term and high-quality operation of the window depends on the timely performance of service operations, and even in the absence of visual defects, it is advisable to carry out these procedures at least once a year.

Why should all the main components be lubricated, and the rubber seals should be moistened. Also, a few words must be said about the rules for using windows:

  • Turn the window handle only when the sash is fully closed;
  • Do not allow the presence of foreign objects in the free cavity of the window frame;
  • The operation of windows should be carried out taking into account the implementation of all finishing works(slopes).

However, it should be noted that despite the elementary nature of the described methods, troubleshooting and window adjustment should be started only after a detailed acquaintance with the principle of operation of the installation.

Otherwise, the more correct method would be the help of specialists in this field.

For the correct and safe adjustment of plastic windows, you need to know several features of their design in order to avoid any damage.

Next, we will tell you how to solve some of the problems that can arise with metal-plastic windows, as well as share recommendations on how plastic windows should be properly adjusted.

In order to independently adjust the plastic window, you must use a 4-mm hex key, which is popularly called the "four".

Adjustment types

1. Consider first the horizontal adjustment of metal-plastic windows. To properly adjust the window, you must use the top and bottom hinges, which have a hole for a hex key.

By rotating the hex key clockwise, the sash is pulled to the hinge. The bottom of the window opposite the hinge should rise slightly.

2. If the hinge is to be moved away from the sash, the rotation of the key must be correspondingly counterclockwise, which will lead to a slight lowering of the bottom of the sash.

The lower hinge is adjusted inside the room when the window is open, and outside when it is closed.

The adjustment process is carried out in the same way in two versions. By adjusting the horizontal plane, the frame can be moved up to 2 millimeters, and the bevel can also be eliminated.

3. Vertical adjustment of the window is carried out at the expense of the lower hinge. The hex key is placed under the cap that covers the loop.

Eliminating the bevel of the frame in the vertical direction is also possible up to 2 millimeters.

4. Adjustment of the opening mode is carried out by eccentrics, which are located along the perimeter of the PVC window. When turning the handle, the eccentrics should go beyond the pressure pads, which are also located along the perimeter of the window.

Turning the eccentric to the right, you can strengthen the window clamps to the frame, while turning it to the left, the clamp will loosen. On the eccentric there is a risk that shows the degree of pressure.

If the risk is directed to the seal, the window is strongly pressed against the frame, but if it is towards the outside, it is weakly pressed. In order to rotate the eccentrics, you can use pliers or a wrench.

Sometimes plates are used for clamping, which are located on the window sash.

The appropriate level of pressure between the window and the frame depends on the time of year.

It is quite clear that the pressure should be strong in winter and weakened in summer. You can adjust the clamp in the range of 0.8 millimeters.

5. You can adjust the loop pressure for both loops at once or only one loop. This will depend on what fittings are installed on your window.

If necessary, adjust the lower hinge, first remove the cap, and then rotate the bolt in the desired direction, which is located perpendicular to the window.

6. Only hinged doors can be adjusted to the top hinge. When adjusting the top hinge, the frame must be supported, as it will only be held by the bottom hinge.

Some plastic windows are equipped with a lock that prevents the open window sash from tilting. Blockers are a lever or clip.

In order to tilt the open plastic window, it is necessary to turn the handle to the ventilation mode while pressing the blocker.

When is uPVC window adjustment needed?

With the help of adjustment, many problems of metal-plastic windows can be eliminated:

  • The window sash sagged, causing the sash bottom to touch the plastic frame. Suitable for horizontal or vertical adjustment.
  • Vertical or horizontal displacement of the sash has caused the middle sash to touch the frame. To fix the problem, it is necessary to move the sash evenly to one side.
  • When air enters through the seal, it is necessary to adjust the sash pressure.
  • To adjust the loose handle, turn the plate, which is located at the base, at a right angle and tighten all the screws with a screwdriver. The base of the handle can also be equipped with a ventilation regulation plate - "combs".
  • With the help of engine oil, you can get rid of such a problem as tight turning of the handle. To lubricate the hinges, eccentrics, clamping mechanisms and platforms, you can use any brushes or cotton swabs that are at hand.

When is adjustment required? Here are the most common signs that a window is ripe for adjustment.

  • When opening (closing), the sash clings to the fittings or to the box.
  • There is a noticeable draft from the window.
  • The handle has become loose or vice versa has become very tight.
  • When the window is open, the handle is jammed and the window does not close.

I want to warn you right away that some problems are the result of a violation of manufacturing or installation technology. Unfortunately, not all of them can be corrected by adjustments ...

We will consider the adjustment of balcony doors separately!

Before we start studying the topic “Adjusting plastic window fittings”, let's define the terminology. The fittings consist of several main units, each of which is responsible for its own area.

The part on the sash is commonly called the “Locking Mechanism”, and the parts attached to the frame are called “Answers”.

To work, we need the following:

  • A set of keys - hexagons.
  • A set of nozzles - stars.
  • Spatula for working with double-glazed windows.
  • Putty knife.
  • Rubber mallet.
  • Linings for double-glazed windows of different thicknesses.
  • Screwdrivers and pliers.
  • Lubricant for fittings.
  • Soft brush.

Much of the above may not be useful to you, but if you are going to adjust the fittings of plastic windows, it is advisable to prepare thoroughly.

Before moving on to practical exercises, I will make a small digression.

Note!

DO NOT adjust the fittings of plastic windows yourself in two cases.

First, if the warranty period has not expired. You still don’t know how to get anything, but you will lose the guarantee for sure.

Secondly, if you are not sure of your abilities. In this case, it would be better to turn to professionals.

Well, with those who are used to solving their problems on their own, we move on.

Now let's decide which node is capable of what.

The lower hinge allows you to move the bottom of the sash up - down, left - right and adjust the pressure.

The trunnions of the locking mechanism are responsible for pressing the entire sash.

In some types of fittings, the pressure is regulated by otvetki, on the frame.

The upper part of the tilt-and-turn mechanism, called "scissors", can shift the top of the sash to the left - to the right and work with a clamp.

Now we will take each case and analyze it in detail. Go ahead.

Let's continue the analysis of the topic How to adjust plastic windows.

What to do if the bottom of the sash on the side of the handle clings to the answer or to the box - the sash sagged. I want to say right away that on large, heavy doors, there MUST be a “microlift”.

This mechanism, at the moment of closing the sash, resting against a special answer, raises the sash by 2-3 mm, thereby relieving the load from the rest of the fittings. Eg, balcony door without a lift it is unacceptable to set!

And so, the sash sagged. This is treated either by lifting the sash upwards, or by retracting the bottom of the sash in the direction of sagging, and the top in the direction of the hinges.

To raise the sash, remove the decorative cap from the bottom hinge, insert the hexagon from above into the hole and tighten the stop screw.

To shift the bottom of the sash, turn the screw on the frame part of the hinge.

The top of the sash can be moved with a screw located in the scissors from the side of the top hinge. To get close to it, you need to open the sash and rotate the screw to the desired position of the sash.

In general, try not to keep the doors open for a very long time, so as not to sag.

  • The handle is loose - we remove the decorative plate under it, turn it 90 * and tighten the two screws. If, on the contrary, the handle began to turn more and more difficult, a crunch is heard in the mechanism, then it's time to make a complete revision of the window fittings.
  • How to adjust plastic windows, if the handle turns further, to the “ventilation” position, the sash falls out and hangs on the scissors, leaning on one lower loop. This means that the blocker did not have time to work.

It is usually located on the locking mechanism in the area of the handle and, with the sash open or tilted for ventilation, is located at an angle to the locking mechanism. In this position, the blocker does not allow turning the handle where it is not necessary.

In our case, to return the sash to its place, you need to move the plate to the sealing rubber with your finger, set the sash to the “just open” position (press the top of the sash from the hinge side) and turn the handle to the desired position.

How to adjust plastic windows if there are drafts.

First of all, carefully inspect the sealing rubber on the sash and frame.

If diaper rash, scuffs and tears are clearly visible, the rubber must be changed. If you decide that the rubber is in order, then you need to increase the pressure of the sash to the frame.

To begin with, check the coincidence of the locking rods (pins) on the sash with the answers on the frame, as in “Adjusting the balcony door”.

On the lower hinge, a screw is responsible for the clamp, located in the body of that part of the hinge that is on the sash. Depending on the brand of fittings, you will need a screwdriver, a hexagon or an asterisk.

But, unfortunately, not all manufacturers install a bottom hinge with pressure adjustment on the windows.

In this case, you will have to adjust the clamp, from the side of the hinges, with “scissors”, “hidden clamp” and a pin on the “middle lock”.

An eccentric screw located on the scissors is responsible for the clamp in the area of the upper loop.

To make it available, do the following:

  1. open the sash
  2. finger press the blocker to the rubber
  3. turn the handle up
  4. and, carefully, we remove the top of the sash from the frame so that the scissors become visible.

The blocker may be of a different design, where the blocking is performed by a movable plate, which is pressed against the frame by the sash.

So, to unlock you need to press the plate.

We insert the hexagon into the head of the eccentric and turn it in the right direction (each brand has its own direction).

Pressing the blocker, we return the sash to its place.

Helpful advice!

On the overall doors, from the side of the hinges, as a rule, a hidden clamp is also installed.

It is also regulated (usually with a hexagon) according to the “winter-summer” type.

During rotation, it extends - the pressure plate retracts, thereby changing the clamping force.

If an unregulated one is installed, and you are convinced that it does not work, you need to change it.

Depending on the brand of fittings, this is done either with a hexagon or with pliers. On some trunnions, the eccentric is made in the form of a ring, which must be pulled away from the sash with your fingers and rotated to the desired angle.

There are brands of fittings in which the clamps are commanded by otvetki, I think you can decide. In general, adjusting plastic windows is a very creative process! Especially the first time.

After all the necessary screws have been scrolled, we check the clamp.

This is done as follows: tear off a strip of a palm-width and two palms long from the newspaper, and clamp it between the sash and the frame, where there are no answers. If the strip is easily pulled out - add a clamp.

So check several points from all sides.

Yes, I missed one point. It happens after lifting or tilting the sash, the trunnions begin to cling to the answers or vice versa do not reach them. In this case, the answers must be shifted in the right direction.

We unscrew the self-tapping screw that secures the answer on the frame and, without removing the answer itself, by lightly tapping with pliers on the answer along the frame, we shift it in the right direction. We twist the self-tapping screw.

And now - the most dangerous type of adjustment of plastic windows. This is an adjustment of the double-glazed window. There is a situation when the sash is raised all the way, and its lower part, from the side of the handle, clings to the frame.

That is, the sag is greater than the power reserve of the adjusting stop in the lower loop. I will say right away that under normal conditions such a case practically does not occur, which means that one of the three points was violated:

  1. Correct assembly.
  2. Correct installation.
  3. Proper operation.

Or maybe all three! But, as they say, "it's too late to drink Borjomi" - we will treat. Another case - the "turning" sash sagged. In order to save money, such sashes are often equipped with NON-ADJUSTABLE fittings.

That is, the usual loops and constipation. Here, adjustment is possible ONLY with double-glazed windows.

So let's get started: using the screw in the bottom hinge, lower the sash as far down as possible.

Carefully remove the glazing beads with a spatula (the sash is closed !!!), holding the double-glazed window (it is better to work together).

We mark the glazing beads “lion”, “right”, “top” and take out the double-glazed window itself. Gently put it on something soft (rug, rug) against the wall, laying several newspapers from the wall, for example.

Then we open the sash and in the very corner from the side of the handle we put gaskets on the frame, so that the sash rises by 5-7 mm when closing. We close the sash, as if pushing (lifting) it onto the gaskets.

If we notice that at the moment of closing the entire sash rises, and not just the desired edge, then in the area of \u200b\u200bthe scissors, on the sash, we insert another one without letting the sash up.

Thus, in the place where the sash was mashed, a gap (reserve) of the order of 5 mm was obtained.

We insert a double-glazed window and fix it tightly on all sides with gaskets, according to technology, helping ourselves with a spatula. Gaskets should be inserted very tightly, but carefully - glass is glass.

We hammer the glazing beads with a rubber mallet, starting with short ones.

We check the operation of the sash by removing the lining from the box. If necessary, we correct the adjustments, achieving normal operation.

All this can be avoided by installing a "microlift" on the sash.

In some types of fittings, a blocker can be adapted to the role of a lift. But only those that have a fairly powerful blocker are suitable.

This is done as follows: the blocker response is installed in such a way that when the sash is closed, the blocker does not just press against the rubber, but, as it were, runs into the response, raising the sash by 2-3 mm.

But you need to verify it very accurately so as not to break the lock. By the way, if you install a microlift on an unregulated sash, you will not need to open it.

It was the adjustment of plastic WINDOWS, but we also have doors ...

We remove the old rubber.

We clean the groove from the remnants of glue and sealant. Now we need to determine what kind of rubber we had.

Leading profile manufacturers mainly use four types of rubber:

  • rehau
  • KBE 228

We determine which one we have. If the seal is not similar to any of these types, we take any with a similar leg size.

If you have a choice, it is better to take German - the service life is almost twice as long.

We insert a new rubber, starting from the top of the window (door).

Try not to stretch the rubber, but rather to pick it up. Be especially careful when inserting the seal in the corners.

Then fill the tail end-to-end with the other end of the seal, smearing the ends with glue.

It will not be superfluous to help one more person here.

Turn the handle to the "open" position, but do not open the sash.

Remove the decorative trim from the top loop.

With a flat screwdriver (knife, chisel, etc.), we pull out the pin of the upper loop, you can not completely, but only to disconnect the loop parts.

We slightly tilt the sash towards ourselves and, lifting it up, remove it from the lower hinge.

We take out the upper loop (scissors) from the groove to make it more convenient to work.

We change the seal, as on the frame.

We assemble the mechanism and put the sash in place. We drive the pin of the upper loop and put on the decor.

We close the sash and check the work, if necessary, adjust the adjustments.

Now manufacturers are offered profiles with already glued rubber. When a window (door) is assembled from such a profile, the rubber in the corners, when welded, is fused.

If in the middle of the profile it is difficult to remove the rubber, but it is possible, then it cannot be pulled out in the corners.

We do so. We tear out all the rubber that lends itself, helping ourselves with a screwdriver or something else.

In the corners we mill a groove for rubber with a f-4 mm drill or a vertical cutter of the same diameter.

We clean the place of milling with a knife or chisel.

Insert new tires.

Detailed instructions for adjusting plastic windows

At present, the popularity of plastic windows is no longer in doubt, because they are not only of high quality, but also of affordable cost. And that's not to mention the fact that they are easy to use and perfectly protect against noise.

But, despite this, even the highest quality windows require maintenance, so from time to time it is necessary to call the master to adjust them. Many people ask themselves: “Is it possible to adjust plastic windows without calling a wizard?”.

It's actually not as difficult as it might seem. Therefore, after reading this article, you yourself will be able to deal with minor problems. Remember that in this way you save not only money, but also time.

And now let's move on to the instructions themselves and consider the main problems.

What are the most common problems that you can fix yourself?

Most often, you can encounter the following types of malfunctions, which you can easily fix on your own:

  • When closing, the sash touches the frame from the side or from below
  • The sash is not tight enough to the frame
  • Striker plate wear
  • The handle is blocked when the sash is open in the “closed” mode, the window does not close
  • The sash is closed, but the window does not close, the handle does not turn
  • Handle broke

Note!

After reading this article, you will be able to deal with minor problems yourself.

For repairs, we may need the following tool:

  • Pliers
  • Hexagon (4 mm)
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flat)
  • A set of "stars"

Briefly about the general principles of adjusting window sashes

Cases of almost all modern windows PVC can be adjusted in three planes, thanks to which it is possible to achieve the correct position of the sashes in the frame and to achieve the optimal degree of pressing the seals around the entire sash perimeter.

Ways to adjust the sash fittings, appearance its individual elements and the tool used for adjustment may be different depending on the manufacturer, but in general general scheme adjustment looks like the pictures below.

Now let's look at what needs to be done in order to fix the problem in each of the above cases.

When closing, the sash touches the frame from below

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge and up. The procedure for this is approximately the following:

  1. We open the sash.
  2. We turn the adjusting screw located near the upper hinge at the end of the sash with a hexagon clockwise by several turns.
  3. We close the sash.
  4. Remove the cap from the bottom loop.
  5. We insert a hexagon into it and make several turns clockwise.
  6. We check the free play of the sash, if necessary, we carry out adjustment until we fix the malfunction.

The sash touches the side of the frame when closing

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the hinges, for this:

If the side of the sash only touches the frame from below, then it will be enough to move the sash towards the lower hinge. This is easily done with the adjustment screw located under the bottom hinge.

In the event that the side of the sash touches the frame along its entire height, it will also be necessary to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge.

Striker plate wear

To check the strikers, open a window and inspect them. Most often, there is one bar on each side around the perimeter of the window. If wear is noticeable on one of them, this may indicate that there is an uneven fit of the window in the frame.

In order to solve the problem, you need to open the window, remove the plastic plugs from the adjusting bolts (they are on the lower and upper hinges, on the same side as the sash) and loosen the bolts themselves using a hex wrench (four mm).

After that, adjust the position of the top half of the window. The adjusting screw will help you with this. First you need to adjust everything relative to the frame "left - right", and then go to the bottom screw and start adjusting the movement "up and down".

It is very easy to monitor the accuracy of the adjustment. To do this, you just need to open and close the window until you understand that the sash fits snugly and evenly into the frame.

The sash is not tight enough to the frame

From the side of the handle on the lateral end of the sash there is a system of eccentrics, with the help of which the pressure density against the sash frame is regulated.

They may have a different appearance depending on the manufacturer, but the principle of operation is the same in all cases.

By rotating the eccentrics with pliers or a hexagon, you can adjust the required degree of pressing the sash to the frame.

If you need to adjust the degree of pressing the window sash to the frame from the side of the hinges, this can be done using the adjusting screw located on the lower hinge.

If this sash is a tilt-and-turn sash, then you can additionally adjust the sash pressure using the top hinge.

To get to the adjusting bolt located on the scissors near the upper hinge, you need to open the sash and then, after pressing the lock first, set the handle to the ventilation mode.

If you need to press the sash against the frame, then you need to rotate the bolt clockwise, respectively, you can loosen the clamp by turning the bolt counterclockwise.

Some types of fittings are regulated exclusively with the help of the answers located on the side of the handle. The position of the strikers is adjustable with a hexagon.

Helpful advice!

To increase the pressure of the window sash to the frame, you need to move the bar towards the street.

On the hinge side of the frame there are also clamping mechanisms adjustable with a hexagon. The more you pull out the tongue, the more the sash will be pressed against the frame.

The handle is blocked when the sash is open in the “closed” mode, the window does not close

The handle can only be turned when the sash is closed in order to prevent breakage of the hardware mechanisms. To prevent accidental turning of the handle when the sash is open, special locks are provided located under the handle at the end of the sash.

They also vary depending on the manufacturer. various types. Before unlocking the handle, you need to press the lock.

The sash is closed, but the window does not close because the handle does not turn

If, after closing the sash, the handle does not turn, this means that the engagement of the blocker with the mating element located on the frame does not work.

This problem can be solved in two ways:

  1. Using the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge, move the sash slightly in the direction of the mating part of the blocker
  2. Slightly loosening the mount, insert any thin plate of hard material between the counterpart of the blocker and the frame

It happens, it also happens that the plastic window does not close at all (for example, if the window opens in two positions at once). How to be in such a case? Read my article "The plastic window does not close - what should I do?"

Handle broke

In order to replace the plastic window handle, you need to slightly pull the handle cover towards you and turn it 90 degrees.

This usually happens due to insufficient lubrication. To prevent such a situation, it is necessary to lubricate the hardware mechanisms at least once a year. For these purposes, you can use aerosol lubricants or machine oil.

It is worth noting that the control of the technical condition and the lubrication of all mechanisms of window fittings must be carried out even in the absence of visible defects at least once a year.

If you are interested in adjusting plastic windows, it is useful to remember that:

  • it is necessary to periodically check the condition of the rubber seals in order to prevent their wear;
  • if you remove decorative plastic caps, do it carefully, as they are very fragile; make sure not to deform or crush them during the main work;
  • if you have a deformed frame or yourself window hole, then it will not be possible to adjust the windows yourself;
  • if you are not sure that you can do everything yourself, it is better to entrust the work to a trusted specialist. So you can be sure that everything is done with high quality and nothing needs to be redone.

I suggest watching a video that clearly shows how to adjust the plastic window with your own hands.

How to tighten plastic windows so as not to blow from the sash? This question interests every owner of an opening double-glazed window. Indeed, in the cold season, even a small gap between the double-glazed window and the frame leads to a loss in the comfort level of living in the house.

How the double-glazed window sash mechanism works

A plastic window consists of a polymer frame (sometimes with a sash), a multi-layer package assembled from 2-3 glasses separated by a void (air is the best heat insulator) and a mechanism for opening and closing the window.

The mechanics of the sash allows you to open it by turning it on hinges, or fold it back, opening it to a clearly defined angle. To ensure these actions, the following units are included in the double-glazed window mechanism:

  • The upper loop is a complex element that provides both rotation and reclining.
  • The bottom loop is a simple element that provides only a turn.
  • Constipation is a complex assembly that locks the sash and adjusts the functionality of the upper hinge.

How the window will work - recline or open - it is constipation that “decides”. When its handle (lever) is shifted down, parallel to the side of the frame, the window closes tightly. Turning the lever 90 degrees unlocks the opening function - the window can be opened by pulling the handle towards you. Turning the lever 180 degrees unlocks the tilt mechanism - the window will open slightly under its own weight or due to muscular effort.

When is window sash adjustment needed?

Firstly, adjustment is needed in case of errors during window installation. Insufficiently qualified craftsmen may make a mistake when checking the horizontal or vertical of a double-glazed window, after which the sash will begin to scratch the frame. In this case, you will need a 2-3 mm adjustable gap in height and width.

Secondly, adjustment will come in handy after several years of window operation, when the seals lose their elasticity or simply wear out. The sash will be pressed against the frame, but the worn seal will no longer seal the joint. Then you will need a millimeter adjustable clamping gap.

Thirdly, manual clearance adjustment will be needed when the seasons change. In winter, everyone wants perfect tightness of the joints (so as not to blow), and in summer no one refuses a slight draft.

Moreover, even in winter, before tightening the plastic windows, it is necessary to provide for the existence of a ventilation gap that ensures the flow of fresh air into the insulated room. Therefore, further in the text we will consider adjusting windows that blow either too much or too little.

Preparing a window for winter: how to adjust a plastic window so as not to blow

If the sash scratches the frame, then in winter it blows from the window due to the skew of the structure. To eliminate this shortcoming, you will have to do the following: slam the window and lock it with a handle. After that, grab the edge of the sash with both hands and pull it towards you, without offering much effort. If it has moved from its place below, then you have a loosened bottom loop. If at the top, you have problems with the top loop.

After localizing the place of displacement, you need to deal with the elimination of skew. The loop at the bottom is adjustable both vertically and horizontally. The upper mechanism can be adjusted in the same way. A 4 hex key is usually used as a tool. Sometimes a cross-head screwdriver or a special asterisk key included in the window delivery kit comes into play.

To adjust horizontally, the sash is opened and the key is inserted into the groove located at the bottom of the hinge. Turning clockwise brings the double-glazed window closer to the hinge, turning it in the opposite direction moves it away.

The vertical adjustment of the lower hinge is performed differently: the window is slightly opened, tilting into the room, the key is inserted into the groove located in the end part of the curtain. Turning clockwise raises the sash, turning it in the opposite direction lowers it. At the end of the adjustment, you can close the window and check whether the sash moves away from the frame or not.

The hinge at the top of the window adjusts slightly differently. To do this, you need to open the window 180 degrees and get to the adjusting screw located on the side of the side edge of the sash, in the area of the upper hinge. Next, insert the key into the head of the screw and turn it a quarter of a turn. After that, the window is closed and the degree of pressing the sash is checked again. If necessary, the operation is repeated.

If the screw at the top hinge did not help, then it is necessary to adjust another node, which is located in the area of the plate of the folding mechanism that holds the window in an inclined position. To do this, the sash is opened and, holding the blocker, is folded back, gaining access to the plate at the top of the window. Next, a key is inserted into the screw head and rotated a quarter turn clockwise or in the opposite direction.

To get to the swing mechanism plate, you must do the following: turn the handle 90 degrees, open the window, press the lock with your finger and turn the handle up 180 °. After that, the open sash will tilt towards the room, exposing the plate with the adjusting screw.

If the sash closes easily and without squeaks and does not move when closed, and there is still a draft from the windows, we tighten the glass unit clamp to the frame. To do this, do the following:

  • Open the frame and turn the handle of the lock down. In this case, part of the metal pins protruding from the sash is displaced. These details must be marked with a felt-tip pen.
  • Next, you need to take pliers (for smooth surfaces) or a flat screwdriver (for a slot) or a hex key (for an internal recess) and sequentially turn the pins so that most of them move towards the seal.

Usually, to create additional clamping force, the pins are turned clockwise by half a turn. Moreover, until the completion of manipulations with all the pins that move when the handle is closed, the sash should be kept open. You will be able to evaluate the results of your efforts only after the completion of this work. Otherwise, the window will warp on the locking elements.

Adjustment does not help - change seals

In particularly difficult cases, in order to eliminate unwanted draft, in addition to adjusting the sash mechanism, it is necessary to resort to replacing seals. To do this, you need to open the window and fix the sash. Next, we take the seal and pull it towards us. With enough effort, it will come out of the groove very easily.

The next step is the installation of a new seal. It starts with cutting to size. Moreover, the old seal acts as a template, so it cannot be stretched during dismantling. After trimming, the new material is pressed into the groove and checked for creases and other defects.

According to the recommendations of the manufacturers, such a replacement should be done no more than once every 10 years, however, the seal could be installed unevenly or damaged during operation. Usually the main cause of damage to the seal is the abuse of the sash pressure setting. Therefore, sometimes it is changed before the end of the 10-year period.

If the seal creaks, then instead of replacing it, you should try silicone grease - it will remove unpleasant noise. Machine oil in this case is strongly not recommended.

Preparing a window for the summer: how to make a light draft

Before that, we figured out how to tighten the hinges on plastic windows so that cold air does not blow from the sash. Now we have to solve another problem - to create a light draft that blows through a stuffy room. To do this, do the following:

Firstly, find on the side surface of the sash trunnion - the moving parts of the clamping mechanism. Their details protrude above the surface more than other elements.

Secondly, inspect the trunnions and find eccentrics - special screws screwed into the trunnions with an offset center. They will give themselves away not only by a slightly uneven location, but also by the presence of a mark (risks) on the screw head.

Third, turn the offset screw in the desired direction. The standard position of the eccentric is exactly in the center of the trunnion, which gives a clamp of medium strength. However, in summer we need the weakest clamp so that fresh air enters the apartment. Therefore, we turn the eccentric in such a way that its smaller side looks towards the rubber band (seal). Usually, this screw is turned counterclockwise by half or a quarter of a turn.

The described operation will have to be done with all the trunnions, setting the risks of the eccentrics in one direction, otherwise the sash will start to mow when it is locked, and its mechanism will wear out ahead of time.
