Practical, but rather indifferent to diversity, people are interested in how to paint the wallpaper water-based paint pursuing several goals at once. Firstly, although wallpapering is not too technologically difficult, it still requires dismantling (and therefore dirty and labor-intensive) work and takes a lot of time.

Secondly, there are often situations when the coating did not come off the walls, did not hang in tatters, but faded and faded. That is, it needs to be replaced, although it is still quite functional.

Thirdly, you may just want something new in your life, but you are reluctant to start a global repair.

And, fourthly, there is often a desire to simply show their creative inclinations. This is the main value of wallpaper for painting: once pasted - and until they break, change the interior at least every year.

How to paint wallpaper with water-based paint, we will tell you in detail, but first we want to draw your attention to some subtleties.

A little about wallpaper and paints

Not all wallpapers can be painted with a water-based emulsion, even if they are positioned for painting. This is due to the water base of the paint, which can soften the coating itself or dissolve the adhesive by which it is fixed. For example, paper wallpaper can only be painted with acrylic paints.

In any case, non-woven and, with reservations, vinyl are suitable for the use of water-based emulsion. The latter should be two-layered: a water-based emulsion penetrates through one layer of material, albeit with some difficulty.

By the way, if you are going to use oil paint, then the surfaces cannot be pasted over with interlining - it is destroyed by the thinners included in it.

  • Do not be upset if the wallpaper once pasted is slightly damaged. The possibility of painting them is determined only by the strength of their fit to the walls. If they hold up well, it just needs some restoration work before painting.
  • The lagging pieces of the coating are carefully cut to the places of a snug fit.
  • If necessary, the edge of a not torn, but slightly detached canvas is glued.
  • Detected defects in the base (pits, cracks, chips) are puttied and, after drying, sanded and primed.
After the above actions, the surface should be even, and the joints of the wallpaper and the patched flaws should be invisible.

Paint preparation

A water emulsion is chosen by many not only because it is cheaper than the same acrylic. Its main advantage over other options is the ability to get any conceived shade. White water-based paint is sold complete with toner - dry or liquid. It is added in the right amount to the base until the desired tone is reached. In doing so, several points must be taken into account.

Wallpaper for sticking can have its own shade, which can affect the final color, especially if pale pastel is chosen. If there are strict requirements for the tone of the design, you first need to glue the white base.

It is desirable to paint the room at a time. Even if you do not have time to do this in a day, you need to dilute the paint with toner immediately in a volume that is enough for the entire surface, and knead it thoroughly the next day. The second time you will not be able to accurately guess the required amount of dye, and the walls will be painted unevenly. To calculate how much paint is needed, check its consumption on the can and put it on top, especially if you paint not with a roller, but with a brush - this method of application is less economical.

If the wallpaper was previously painted, you can not take a color that is not compatible with the previous one, and the new shade should be a little darker.

Paint preparation

The preparation of the paint itself is simple. However, if the room to be painted is large enough, you will need a drill with a nozzle to stir it, otherwise, due to the significant volume, it will not be possible to bring the tone to uniformity.

  • The white base is poured into a bucket.
  • Gradually, with constant kneading, water is added. Its volume is indicated on the bank, but it is approximate: the paint could thicken a little during storage. The working consistency is like that of milk.
  • Color is added. It is better if it is in liquid form, then it can be gradually introduced directly into the general bucket. Dry must first be diluted with a small amount of base, and then poured into a common container.
  • The resulting shade is constantly checked in an inconspicuous area.
  • When you have achieved the desired color, proceed to staining.

Coloring technology

Every person painted something - at least a fence, at least once in a lifetime. Painting on wallpaper is not much different from other surfaces. The general provisions are as follows.
  • First of all, the corner is painted over, since the roller will not reach there, you will have to act with a brush, and therefore, there will be an excess of paint that must be distributed along the walls nearby.
  • If staining is supposed to be in two layers, the first is applied horizontally, with the roller entering the previous strip by 5-10 centimeters. If you are going to apply paint three times, the first time the movements should be vertical. The bottom line is that the last staining must certainly be from top to bottom.
  • The edge of the roller should not coincide with the joint of the wallpaper during the vertical passage.
  • The next layer is applied perpendicularly and only after the previous one has dried. Most manufacturers have 4 hours for this.
We remind that when using a water-based emulsion, drafts during drying are categorically contraindicated. By the way, the first, primer, layer can be applied without color, but then the final one will be a lighter shade than originally intended, so you need to add more dye to it.

Design delights

The use of water emulsion when painting wallpaper is interesting in that it provides an opportunity to get patterns or drawings on the walls. There are several ways to achieve what you want.
  • If textured, with bulges, wallpapers are pasted, they are first painted over in one tone with a soft roller, which will apply paint to the depressions. Then a hard roller is taken, thanks to which the paint of a different color (for example, golden) will lie only on the mounds.
  • The drawing can be applied to any one part of the wall with a stencil. You can buy it at an interior store, you can make it yourself.
  • The same pattern can be made over the entire surface if you purchase a roller with a relief pattern. Then the second coat of paint will repeat the same element.
  • To create a sepia effect, use a round brush, which is not smeared on the wall, but often touches it.
You can also come up with your own ways of how to paint the wallpaper with water-based paint with different visual effects. For example, very interesting view they acquire if the second layer is applied with a roller, on which rags are randomly wound, or with the fragmentary use of tampons. Maybe you can come up with your own original way, allowing you to paint as artistically as possible.

Knowing how to paint wallpaper for painting, as well as the correct implementation of this idea, will allow you to create unusual designs And stylish interiors without significant financial investment. Despite the fact that wallpaper for painting is more expensive than usual, many people prefer to buy it. And such a choice is largely justified, because you can update the interior in a very short time by repainting the walls in one or two colors. Moreover, this can be done up to 8-10 times, which means that you can forget about re-gluing wallpaper for many years.

It should be noted right away that not all wallpapers can be painted. So, inexpensive paper canvases can simply get wet and lose their attractiveness. They can also bubble and peel off. And no matter how much paint you put on them, the wallpaper will look unpresentable.

That is why, choosing wallpaper for painting, it is better not to save. It is worth giving preference to vinyl or non-woven options. Such wallpapers are distinguished by a relief surface that can be repainted many times.

Wallpaper designed for painting, even if you are satisfied with their original White color definitely needs to be painted. This will protect their surface and improve performance.

A worthy alternative to the usual finishing materials, which can be easily painted in the desired colors, are glass. They look very nice, and the widest range will allow you to choose the right pattern.

How to paint wallpaper for painting

Paint selection

To paint wallpaper with your own hands, experts do not recommend using oil paints. It is especially forbidden to use those compounds that are diluted with a solvent, since such substances can cause irreparable harm to the wallpaper.

For paper options and glass wallpapers, it is better to choose latex paints, since they are not so aggressive. Also, paper webs can be dyed with water-based compositions.

For non-woven wallpaper, in addition to latex, you can take more affordable acrylic paints. And in order to improve the performance of the coating (make it more resistant to moisture), varnish can be applied to their surface after painting. However, in this case, the wallpaper cannot be re-painted.

As for the texture, you can use both matte and glossy options. The first is ideal for skillfully hiding the defects on the walls. With the help of a multi-layer coating, you can smooth out the textured surface.

Which roller to use

To achieve high-quality painting of the surface with your own hands, you should choose the right roller. It should perfectly absorb the paint, and at the same time it should not flow and splash.

There are two types of rollers to choose from:

  • with a small nozzle (up to 10 cm long);
  • with a long nozzle (up to 25 cm).

With short nozzles you can paint hard-to-reach places. The latter allow you to apply a uniform layer with the most imperceptible transitions.

The roller sleeve should be made of fur with a short pile. It perfectly absorbs paint and allows you to distribute it evenly even if you only lightly press on the roller. It is better to pour the paint into the bath in order to wet the roller well and wring it out. In this case, excess paint should drain back into the container.

How to paint paintable wallpaper yourself

An important rule is everything paints and varnishes must be applied to a dry surface. If the wallpaper is pasted recently, be sure to wait until it is completely dry. Only after that you can start painting. Here, a completely logical question may arise: “How long do you need to wait after gluing the canvases?” On average, the interval between pasting and staining is about 24 hours.

Usually wallpaper for painting is white. That is why you can choose any tone for their coloring. Repaint if needed dark wallpaper, you should first apply a neutral paint, and only after that the desired color.

There is nothing complicated in self-coloring wallpaper, you just need to follow certain rules and follow the sequence of the process

The whole process of painting wallpaper with your own hands can be divided into certain stages:

  • Paint preparation. If necessary, the coloring composition is diluted, brought to the desired consistency and thoroughly mixed. The prepared mixture should be homogeneous without any extra inclusions.
  • Using masking tape, all joints of the walls with the floor and ceiling are glued. Also, adhesive tape is glued to skirting boards and other elements that need to be protected from paint.
  • Surface coloring. This must be done in one go, because if the work is stopped and then continued, very noticeable joints will appear on the walls. First, with the help of a brush, paint over the junctions and corners, and then roll the walls with a roller. At the same time, you need to move from the ceiling to the floor (that is, from top to bottom), without leaving gaps, even if several layers are painted. This method will allow you to apply paint without streaks.
  • After the first layer has completely dried, the next layer of paint can be applied. Usually two coats are enough to achieve the desired result.

This video will help you to thoroughly understand the nuances of painting wallpaper:

Painting wallpaper with water-based paint requires first giving it the desired shade. You can do this in two ways:

Painting wallpaper for painting in two or more colors

If you want to create an original interior, you can paint the wallpaper in two colors. At the same time, you can combine both similar shades (for example, pastel beige and pink or gray and blue), and contrasting ones (usually a combination of light colors with bright ones is used). Also popular is the gradient coloring of the wallpaper, which creates a smooth transition between close shades.

To finish the borders between colors, you can use borders, moldings, wallpaper tapes and other separators.

Staining options

Before choosing the most preferred way of painting wallpaper in two or more colors, you should decide what effect you want to achieve. The whole point is that classic style provides clear boundaries between the selected shades, while creative interiors can be created using arbitrary coloring.

Consider the most popular options for using paints on wallpaper:

Wallpaper for painting gives complete freedom of creativity. They make it possible to realize the most daring design ideas. At the same time, all actions can be performed with your own hands and make your interior truly unique.

What and how to paint wallpaper for painting? We have to get acquainted with the key features of the dyes used, the varieties of the wallpaper itself, the technology for applying paint and the tools used for this. So, let's go.

Wallpaper selection

Paper

Remember the thin paper wallpaper that was used to decorate the children's room in your parents' apartment?

Don't think that squeezing a roller against a wall will improve the paint any better. You will leave traces and drain the liquid. Just slide the tool onto the wall and do it yourself. If you're using multiple paints of the same color, try mixing two cans of paint when you've finished the first one. This will eliminate the slight differences in color that may exist between a boat and another, and the wall will be completely uniform.

Once you've dried the last coat of paint, you let it dry and you can remove the artist's tape. Remove the artist's tape while the wall is still damp because otherwise the paint will harden and dry on the tape. If this happens, the way to remove it without tearing off the piece of paint is to moisten it with turpentine or another solvent.

So, paper wallpapers for painting have nothing in common with them, except for the raw materials used in the production - cellulose.

Before us is a completely different material.

  • Paper is double. The back surface is smooth; embossing, which makes the surface embossed, is present only on the front side.
  • Due to its solid thickness, the material is quite durable.
  • Waterproof impregnation of the front surface allows you to repaint the coating several times.

Useful: Don't overestimate its water resistance. It cannot by itself make paper a washable material.

However, the work is completed. Now you can screw the caps back on and hang whatever you have on the walls. If you apply a bath, wait 3 days before using it again so that the humidity of the shower does not interfere with the drying of the walls. Before storing the paint, clean the hoops of the boat so that dry paint does not get stuck, making it difficult to use later.

  • If paint spills, wipe it off with a damp cloth and soap while it cools.
  • After drying, you should scratch and sand.
Now you will enjoy a room with an updated look in a simple and economical way.

The main advantage of the material is its low price. Disadvantages - limited resistance to high humidity and wear.

Interlining

Its properties are somewhere between paper and polymers; In fact, both are included in it. The material is suitable only for dry rooms with low traffic.

Vinyl

Vinyl wallpaper for painting is made from foamed plasticized polyvinyl chloride; the raw material makes them resistant to high humidity, and the porous structure provides excellent adhesion to the paint. However, the material cannot boast of wear resistance: in places of constant contact with clothing, it will quickly wipe off.

Do your best to wash the dishes warm water and soapy or oily essence. Wipe the hair off the brush with the comb, shake and hang up the tools so that the water disappears. Painting and decorating wallpapers are two unmistakable technologies that give new air to your home without the need for costly and complicated reforms.

fiberglass

Glass fiber is the most durable solution, resistant to any adverse factors. Resistant to abrasion, water and aggressive detergents- beyond praise. The only complaint against them is a certain limited choice of textures, arising from the technology for the production of woven material.

Secrets of wallpaper as an expert

And doing it like an expert is easier than it might seem. It's easier if you choose vinyl or vinyl paper with a woven non-woven backing. They are thicker and more stable and only need to be lined up on paper or a wall. But if you don't want to touch the wall, you can decant the paper in relief, which hides the bumps better. To find out how much paper to cut. Measure the wall and leave 5 cm above and below. Glue the paper and then cut with a cutter. If the paper has drawings. After gluing the first sheet, place the roll next to it to see how it fits together. Thus, you will spend less paper. To avoid bubbles. Place the paper from top to bottom and smooth with a brush and then with a rag. This prevents him from flying. To do this, glue the sides and ends together. To prevent the joints from being noticed, join the sheets without assembling and checking with a roller. If you're wrong, pick them up before the tail dries. And for possible repair. It is advisable to keep a spare sheet with the motif of the full drawing. This way, if there is a tear in the paper, you can repair it with the right side of the print where the damage is.

  • Paper type.
  • You can cover them with puttying and sanding.
  • And so the paper then grabs better, gives the primer.
Paper glue: See which one works best on the paper label of your choice.

In the photo - several options for the texture of glass.

Paint selection

What properties should paint have?

  • Harmlessness. It's all about housing though.
  • Drying speed. We don't want to wait weeks for repairs to be completed.
  • Moderate solids content with maximum hiding power. The dye layer should color the surface of the walls, and not completely hide their texture.

Don't forget: the wallpaper is meant to be repainted several times. 10-15 thick layers of viscous dye will hardly leave a three-dimensional pattern visible.

Brush, roller and cloth to smooth. And a cutter, and a ruler, or tape to cut out the excess. Flatten them a little with a spatula and fill them with mastic or cover them with fiberglass strips. Seals without putty. Remove the remainder, clean the surface and refill with sealant. Remove everything with your finger or spatula. Paint without pollution. To be able to drain the brush without the risk of staining the floor, place the paint container on a plate or cardboard tray. Protect frames and windows from doors and windows. Before painting, apply liquid soap with a brush near the frames and on the glass joints. Wait for it to dry and blush calm. But if you want more protection, protect them with thick tape.

  • Wash before painting.
  • Prepare the mixture hot water and vinegar in equal parts and rinse the roll with it.
  • Pass it on the wall like you painted it.
  • The strips will come out completely.
  • Cracks in ceilings and walls.
To reduce paint smell, toss in a few drops of vanilla and remove.

All requirements are met by water-dispersion dyes based on acrylic resins. Their consumer properties can vary quite a lot depending on some specific additives.

Probably, information about some of them may be useful.

  • The addition of latex gives the paint increased adhesion to difficult surfaces and water resistance. Acrylic-latex compounds are ideal for interlining.
  • Acrylic-silicone dyes also perfectly tolerate prolonged contact with water and are not afraid of wet abrasion. They can be safely used on vinyl and fiberglass wallpapers in bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Finally, they are able to reliably protect any coating (even paper) from contact with water. We mentioned above that moisture-resistant impregnation does not allow washing paper wallpaper; however, after painting with rubber paint, the removal of streaks from splashes and minor contamination will no longer be a problem. The only limitation concerns the limited mechanical strength of the paper: it is still not worth rubbing the wallpaper with a stiff brush.

When you go to paint, remember that it is advisable to always start and end the paint cans in the corners. Sometimes there may be a slight change in pitch from one boat to another and it will be barely noticed. You will prevent slowdowns. If you paint the walls white. Add a good amount of laundry bleach before adding. The wall will blind you. White enamel. To prevent white cabinets and doors from turning yellow, which often happens often in the kitchen, a few drops of blue enamel are added to the synthetic enamel. If you have paint. Pour the turpentine into the boat before closing it. It will be well kept and you won't be surprised if you find it dry when you return to it.

  • Paint the corners.
  • It's good to draw the ceiling.
  • When you draw it, apply paint in the direction of the window.
This is the question we all ask ourselves when it comes to painting.

Nuance: the paint will protect the surface from direct contact with water; however, it is vapor permeable and does not allow high humidity to affect the condition of the adhesive and substrate. Sticking paper in the bathroom is still not worth it.

All water-based dyes are tinted to any color with water-soluble pigments.

Painting

Painting wallpaper with your own hands begins with the preparation of the dye.

You may love wallpapers, patterns, and repeat patterns, but for some reason, you don't want or can't decorate your walls with wallpaper. Nothing happens, no problem, with painting we can also imitate wall decoration as if it were wallpaper. If you have no idea how this happens, because you have not seen these ideas that we have prepared.

Basically, most wallpapers have a repeating pattern. Choose one like the one in the picture above, a cactus for example, and repeat it on the wall until you cover it completely. If you're good at drawing, check out the wonders of designs you can print on your wall.

  1. The paint is tinted by the addition of one or more pigments and thoroughly mixed. Tool - a construction mixer or a drill with an appropriate nozzle.

You need to tint the entire volume of paint intended for repair; moreover, it is better to leave a small margin for future wall repairs.

The fact is that the slightest change in the percentage of pigments will lead to a noticeable change in shade; you cannot get the same color again.

Obviously, with a little body tape and a previous sketch in pencil or computer, the painting can decorate the wall as if it had wallpaper, as we see in the image above or below. A good way to split a baseboard into a wall is with paint. Random geometric patterns, like some wallpapers, we can also make them on the wall with body tape and paint in different colors.

Or just take a brush, wash it with paint and paint it with your free hand. If you paint a wall with slate paint, you can create a beautiful mural or accent wall as if it were wallpaper. Triangles, one on top of the other to complete one row and then another to complete the wall.

  1. After diluted with water to the consistency of fat milk and again thoroughly mixed. As we remember, excessive viscosity will lead to a clogged wallpaper texture.

Is wall preparation required? Only if a considerable time has passed after pasting them. Dust will interfere with the adhesion of the paint to the surface; it is removed with a conventional vacuum cleaner with a nozzle covered with masking tape (so as not to damage the texture).

How to paint paper wallpaper?

See what an idea to paint the wall like it has wallpaper. Diagonal stripes are made of paints. A very subtle way to add color to any room. Many wallpapers have letter designs. There is no need, as we see in the image above, on paper with paper having letters in its design, we can do this with a marker.

If you like this idea, don't miss these. Another great idea is to decorate the wall like it has wallpaper. Triangles of different colors. This other way of decorating a wall is something more complex, but you can always seek the help of a professional if you want to do something relatively complex and you are hesitant.

What to paint? Roller with medium pile. In addition to it, you will need a paint tray: to obtain a uniform color, the roller is pre-rolled, and in no case on the walls.

The painting itself is quite standard: the dye is applied in two or three layers; each layer is superimposed perpendicular to the previous one. The last layer, if possible, should lie parallel to the direction of incidence of light. Each wall is painted in one step: otherwise, the boundaries of the dried areas will be noticeable.

Problems You Should Solve Before Painting Wallpaper

Do you have wallpaper on your wall for many years? Have you decided it's time to paint on wallpaper because it doesn't suit your style anymore, but you don't know how to do it? Before painting on the wallpaper, it is important that the area is in good condition. If you don't notice this, you may end up with a rather ugly or erroneous result. These are the most common problems, please note.

You recognize him as small air pumps that you notice when you wind your fingers. Before doing anything else, dampen the paper and the pin removes the air inside. Then gently run the palm of your hand to flatten that section. Lift up the sections of paper, apply some glue and let dry. To ensure that the adhesive has dried and that the paint will not be damaged, allow it to work 24 hours before painting.

Useful little things

  • Non-woven and non-woven backed vinyl wallpapers can be painted on the back before sticking. In this case, their texture will be distinguished by a lower color intensity.
  • One more simple instruction will help to highlight the texture of the picture with color. Having painted the walls over the entire area, roll them without pressure with a foam roller with paint of a different color.
  • To obtain a multi-colored strip or geometric pattern, masking tape is used. They glue the areas to be covered with a different color; after the main area of the wallpaper is painted and dried, the already painted surface is protected from paint with adhesive tape. The pattern is applied with a brush or a narrow foam roller.

Dirty wallpaper with lots of sand, dust and dirt

A painting on wallpaper that has been torn apart may leave scattered sections that highlight the problem. To avoid this, use sandpaper to eliminate bumps. Although it seems insignificant, the difference in completion is huge. It is believed that paper cannot be easily peeled, but this is not the case. To avoid uneven results, take a damp sponge and clean the surface.

Buy sealant and paint

It is always recommended to use sealant before applying paint. This will prevent you from noticing the motifs of the paper you are covering. It is necessary to calculate the amount of paint required for complete coverage. If you don't want to hire a professional painter, make sure you get a good estimate of the surface and ask the paint shop for the correct amount.

Conclusion

Paintable wallpaper is a great way to create unique interior over a relatively short time period. But in pursuit of beauty, it should be remembered that ordinary paint is not suitable for this type of work, because, as you know, it releases substances that are harmful to health into the air we breathe.

Prepare the surface for painting on the wallpaper

It is advisable to buy enough paint for two coats. Keep in mind that paper will absorb a little more than a regular wall. Within the surface to be painted, you must place the tape. The paint should be applied with a brush and in places where it does not reach the roller, such as corners. IN small spaces, such as the corners of current switches, you need a small, thin brush or brush.

Let the first coat dry completely and check at the same time that the paper does not seep through the paint. When the first coat is dry, you can apply the second coat to see if the area is covered as you wish. In most cases, two coats of paint are sufficient. If the result is not yet what you expect, apply the third layer.

Therefore, having decided to make repairs, you should first determine what paint to paint the wallpaper with.

Choosing a paint

The coloring matter should be chosen taking into account a number of properties, the main of which are protective and decorative functions. For each surface there is a special one, which is characterized by a special chemical composition.

When deciding which paint to paint the wallpaper, you need to consider the following functions:

  1. Resistance to mechanical stress, which will affect the durability of the coating.
  2. Resistant to household chemicals.
  3. Environmental friendliness.
  4. Fast drying.
  5. Resistant to sunlight.
  6. Hiding power, which lies in the ability to qualitatively overlap another color.

Considering the above characteristics, we can conclude that the best choice for carrying out such work is water-dispersion paint.

It is great for the interior, and there are several obvious reasons for this:

  1. Absolute safety and environmental friendliness. It can be used even in children's rooms, as it does not contain or release any harmful compounds into the air.
  2. Very fast drying process. Within an hour, your walls will be completely ready for further use.
  3. Water-dispersion compositions do not emit any odor. Thus, neither during the repair process, nor at the end of it, you will not experience discomfort from an unpleasant odor.

There are several varieties of such paints:

  1. Acrylic - the most universal option, great for all kinds of surfaces, including also wallpaper. The surface does not fade even with constant exposure to the sun and is perfectly washable. However this species distinguishes the highest price, therefore, before thinking about its application, calculate how much such a repair will cost you.
  2. Adhesive - afraid of moisture, because it does not wash very well.
  3. Latex - most often used to work with glass and textured surfaces. Very water resistant, which is why most experts consider it the most good option for painting wallpaper.

Advice!
In order not to make a mistake in choosing, be sure to read the product label.
An excellent choice for wallpaper is a water-dispersion composition, which is marked with the letters VD.

Choosing paint to determine the texture of the coating

Acrylic paints are:

  1. Glossy. Quite rarely used for decoration of living rooms. They are an excellent choice for dark rooms.
  2. Semi-gloss. These coatings are very easy to clean and perfectly reflect light. Perfect choice for kids room, bathroom, kitchen. The compositions are applied to an exceptionally smooth surface. Otherwise, all defects and imperfections of the coating will be emphasized.
  3. Matte. An excellent choice for large, bright rooms and halls.
  4. Semi-matte. Used in bedrooms, giving the interior a little shine.
  5. Satin. They have a smooth structure and wear resistance, and therefore are suitable for any premises.

How to paint wallpaper

The instructions for applying paint with your own hands are quite simple, so you do not need much experience or any skills.

Work is carried out according to the following rules:

  1. Finishing can be carried out only a day after pasting the walls with wallpaper.
  2. Before starting work, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Only in this case the layer will be smooth and beautiful.
  3. If the room is covered with embossed wallpaper, the paint should be applied in two stages: first we apply the first layer, and after it is completely dry - the second.
  4. All work with water-based paint should be carried out using medium-length pile. This will achieve a uniform distribution of the coloring matter over the entire surface, leaving no clots or streaks.

Note!
It is not advisable to use a foam rubber roller in your work, since here it will not allow you to apply an even and smooth layer.

What wallpaper can be painted

Today you can buy several types of wallpaper for painting. If desired, you can even paint colored wallpaper, but for this the paint must have sufficient hiding power in order to mask the previous color.

Consider which wallpapers can be safely used for painting, and which ones are still not desirable:

  1. Paper. If we are talking about wallpapers specially designed for painting, then you have nothing to fear. Such rolls usually have an embossed pattern and consist of several layers. In this case, the first of them is necessarily covered with a special water-repellent composition, because the layer fits very well. In addition, they are environmentally friendly and completely safe for human health, and their cost is generally not high.

The only drawback of such wallpapers is that scuffs can form on them over time.

  1. Vinyl - are dense and elastic, they do not fade and are perfectly washed. Experts do not recommend using them in rooms where air exchange is difficult, since the walls need to breathe.
  1. Liquid - create an ideal surface: smooth and even. A significant disadvantage is the fear of dampness. They can only be painted special composition. If, for example, you use a spray can, then such wallpaper will simply absorb the color, so you may need a large amount of paint.

Conclusion

Wanting to make their interior original, many "come" to the option of painting the wallpaper. Such a decision can be very successful if you approach the matter responsibly. Show your imagination by combining, for example, several matching colors. To learn more, watch the video in this article.

Practical, but rather indifferent to diversity, people are interested in how to paint the wallpaper with water-based paint, pursuing several goals at once. Not all wallpapers can be painted with a water-based emulsion, even if they are positioned for painting. This is due to the water base of the paint, which can soften the coating itself or dissolve the adhesive by which it is fixed. For example, paper wallpapers can only be painted with acrylic paints.

For example, they acquire a very interesting look if the second layer is applied with a roller, on which rags are randomly wound, or with the fragmentary use of tampons. Perhaps you will come up with your own, original way, allowing you to paint as artistically as possible.

Types of wallpaper for painting

Despite the fact that any wall and ceiling coatings can be painted with water-based compositions, the optimal effect will be achieved on the following types of wallpaper:

  • paper (embossed and coarse-fibered);
  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • fiberglass.

Let's take a closer look at what these materials are:

  • paper wallpaper are made on the basis of fibrous waste paper, the structure of which is impregnated with special water-repellent compositions. As a result, the paint evenly covers the paper base, and is not absorbed in separate areas.

The main advantage of special paper wallpapers is the ability to carry out up to 15 stains.

In accordance with the texture of the surface, such wallpapers are structural (embossed) or coarse-fibered. Structural modifications are made from several layers of paper, while coarse fiber coatings are made with the addition of sawdust as a filler.

  • Vinyl wallpapers- These are multi-layer wallpaper coverings with a substrate made of paper or non-woven fabric. The surface layer is made of thin but abrasion resistant foamed vinyl.

Such coatings can be produced with a smooth surface or with a pronounced relief structure. Modifications made for subsequent painting are easy to recognize by their white or light gray front side.

The use of such wallpaper allows you to paint the walls not only in an even layer, but also to apply certain decorative effects, both using improvised means and special structural rollers.

  • Non-woven wallpaper- These are structured coatings that imitate relief plaster. The advantage of such materials is the possibility of multiple staining without loss of the initial strength of the coating. Despite the guaranteed high quality of painting, completely non-woven wallpaper is rarely purchased by compatriots, which is largely due to their high cost.
  • Fiberglass (fiberglass) wallpaper made from fibers produced in the process of processing quartz sand, dolomite, soda and lime. Due to the use of such fibers, the finished wallpaper is characterized by high strength and at the same time increased elasticity. Such coatings are made both with a smooth and with a corrugated surface.

Water-based paints

So, is it possible to paint liquid wallpaper with water-based paint? Of course, you can, but before doing this, consider the features of the coloring composition.

Water-based paint is an emulsion made using finely dispersed polymer particles, pigments and water as a solvent.

For the first time, such compositions began to be produced in the middle of the last century, and since then they have become more and more popular and in demand. However, the demand for these compositions is not surprising, since water emulsion, in comparison with other paintwork materials, is distinguished by affordable price, the possibility of coloring with pigments in the required color and the durability of the result.

Water-based paints, in accordance with the type of binder, differ in the degree of hiding power and resistance to abrasion.

Important: Compositions based on PVA and based on polyacrylates are on sale everywhere.
Both types of paint are good, but PVA-based compositions are less resistant to excess moisture, so if the room is damp, it is advisable to use acrylic paint.

Tools

Before you paint the wallpaper on the ceiling with water-based paint, you need to prepare the appropriate tool.

For the qualitative implementation of the planned work, we need the following tools and devices:

  • wide velor roller;
  • narrow velor roller;
  • roller for painting corners;
  • paint bath the width of a large roller;
  • sprayer for working with water-based compositions (for processing vertical surfaces);
  • work clothes, gloves goggles.

Coloring technology

Returning to the question of whether it is possible to paint paper wallpapers with water-based paint, we will answer - it is possible if everything is done correctly.

Instructions for performing painting work on the walls are as follows:

  • We glue the adjoining walls to the ceiling with masking tape so that the composition does not get on surfaces that are not planned to be painted.
  • We wipe the surface of the wallpaper with a slightly damp foam sponge without excessive pressure. Thus, we can remove the dust with our own hands.
  • The composition in the bucket is thoroughly mixed for several minutes.
    For mixing, we use an electric drill and a special nozzle. We interfere with the contents of the bucket at low speeds. If the paint splashes, you can turn on the reverse.

  • Pour the mixed composition into the bath.
  • We dip the roller into the bath and remove the influx of paint.
  • Apply vertical stripes with a roller.
  • After one layer of paint has been applied, we wait a day for it to dry completely and inspect the surface for the presence of unpainted areas. If there are any, paint a second time.

Important: Significantly accelerate the application of water-based compositions on vertical surfaces allows the use of special spray guns.
Such devices allow you to cover a perfectly even layer of walls with a large area.

Painting the wallpaper on the ceiling is carried out in the same way as on the walls, but there is a slight difference. We roll the strips in the direction of the light coming from the window. Compliance with this simple rule allows you to immediately see the real quality of painting. In addition, by laying the paint in the direction of the light, you can be sure that there will be no characteristic darkening at the junctions of the strips.

Conclusion

What wallpaper can be painted with a water-based emulsion?

The choice of water-based paint for wallpaper is dictated primarily by its price. Mixtures based on latex or polyvinyl acetate are also suitable for painting wallpaper, but are a bit more expensive. Water-based dye has long been known to the inhabitants of Russia, it is familiar and relatively cheap. Among its other benefits:

  • the possibility of tinting the white base in any shade;
  • resistance of the painted surface to fading and abrasion;
  • ease of care (can be wiped with a damp cloth to remove dirt);
  • environmental friendliness;
  • no strong odor upon application.

High-quality material has good hiding power. You can apply just 1 layer of water emulsion and get an excellent result when painting wallpaper. But for an ideal effect, the wall should be painted twice, drying the first coat of coating during the time specified by the paint manufacturer.

Not all wallpapers are suitable for coloring. Usually, materials for painting have an appropriate marking and a textured plain surface. But even in this case, to work with water-based (acrylic) compositions, it is better to understand in advance which wallpapers can be painted:

  1. Paper ones withstand water-based treatment quite satisfactorily. The paint covers their surface well, slightly impregnating the base. As a result, painted walls retain an attractive appearance for a long time. Apply paint to dry wallpaper with a paint roller.
  2. Vinyl wallpaper for painting with a water-based emulsion should be chosen on a non-woven basis. The coating is produced in the same way - with a roller on a dry texture.
  3. Fiberglass varieties will also look ideal. These paintable wallpapers are able to hold a water-based dye for a long time. Fiberglass can be repainted if you want to change the color scheme in the room. The number of stains is indicated on the package.

When painting embossed varieties, the water-based emulsion must be applied in several layers.

How to prepare for work?

Before you paint the wallpaper with water-based paint, you need to prepare everything necessary materials. To work, you will need the following:

  • paint roller (long pile);
  • velor roller (for embossed wallpaper);
  • brush flat 6-7 cm wide;
  • cuvette for roller;
  • masking tape;
  • water-based paint (white base);
  • color.

You can tint the purchased white paint right in the store. In large firms, there is a service for computer selection of shades. The specialist will calculate the amount of dye needed to obtain a suitable color. The information will be saved in the program memory: by the shade number, it will be possible to order an additional volume of the same color if repairs are needed or there is not enough material.

If the wallpaper has already been pasted and is being repainted, then before starting work, wipe the surface with a damp cloth. This will help remove dust and other contaminants that may leave streaks on the new coat or prevent the paint from laying flat (grease stains). The cleaned surface must be dried for 1-2 hours, and then proceed to painting the walls.

How to paint different types of wallpaper?

New wallpaper must be dry before painting. It usually takes 24-48 hours after sticking them on the walls. If the repair was made more than 2-3 days ago, then painting can be started at any time.

The biggest concern is the paper cover. But with careful work with a roller, even this fragile material will not suffer. When painting paper wallpapers, you can also use a non-contact method: using a paint sprayer.

The first stage is painting the corners of the room, the places where the walls adjoin the ceiling or baseboard. If it is possible to remove the plinth, sockets, decorative door slopes, then it is better to do this before painting the walls. But in older buildings, you will have to paste over the edges of these interior details with masking tape. Such a measure will protect the surfaces of the parts from getting water-based paint, which is more difficult to wash off after drying.

You need to paint over difficult places with a soft paint brush, without trying to press hard on it. Walls near doorways, corners, rosettes and other protrusions should be hand-painted to a width of about 5 cm. Without waiting for the paint to dry, proceed to the next step:

  1. Pour a little coloring composition into a cuvette and roll it out with a roller over a ribbed surface to soak the pile well.
  2. Start painting from the middle of a small area in the upper corner of the wall. Move from the center to the edges, capturing part of the pre-painted stripes.
  3. When the paint on the roller dries up, roll it several times over the emulsion poured into the cuvette. Continue work in the specified sequence.

It is necessary to paint 1 wall in 1 step, preventing the paint from drying along the edges of neighboring areas. When applying the emulsion to a new area, it is necessary to capture 1-2 cm of the already painted surface with a roller. So the paint will lie in an even continuous layer.

How to paint interlining and vinyl?

Non-woven wallpaper (with vinyl coated or without) can be painted before sticking on the wall. Coloring is done from the inside out. In this case, the paint will saturate the loose material, speaking on the front side.

This method of staining is good because the wallpaper can be wiped with a damp sponge without the risk of washing off the paint. A transparent vinyl layer on the surface will also protect the non-woven base. Vinyl coated wallpaper is moisture resistant and can be used in the kitchen or bathroom.

The foamed vinyl cover will prevent the wallpaper from being painted before sticking. Embossed tapestries can be painted in the usual way, using a roller with a long pile. In this case, the ink will fall into the depressions of the embossed pattern.

fiberglass wallpaper

They are best for coloring. To highlight the relief, coloring can be done in several layers:

  • apply 2 coats of base paint of the desired shade;
  • after drying the base, use a velor roller to highlight the protruding parts of the pattern in a different color.

Shades for such coloring are chosen to taste. Can withstand the pattern in a single color scheme, but contrasting shades look no less impressive.

Fiberglass wallpapers can be repainted up to 10 times. This makes repairs easy and economical. If you want to refresh the interior, you can very quickly cope with the task by repainting part of the surface or highlighting one wall.

You can even paint ordinary non-woven and thick paper wallpapers that are not intended for this. But on a vinyl film, the paint will stick worse, so when choosing, you should pay attention to the labeling of the wallpaper.

When completing repairs, where wallpaper for painting is correctly pasted on a well-prepared surface, it is important to bring the walls and ceiling to perfection. The overall impression of the design of a residential or office space will depend on the correspondence of the type of wallpaper to the type of paint and the method of its application. But it is important not only to know what kind of paint the wallpaper is painted for painting, but also to complete this stage in compliance with all the subtleties of the technology.

What is the difference between the base for painting and conventional roll materials?

The modern market offers a huge selection finishing materials for outdoor and interior decoration. The color and pattern of the rolls has not been decisive for a long time, since it can be varied by adding any pigment to the coloring base. Wallpaper for painting is the easiest way to transform the interior, thanks to repeated repainting of the same surface.

Many are interested in how many times to paint wallpaper for painting? It is difficult to give an answer without seeing the glued surface. Glass fiber is the most durable - without loss of texture, they are repainted up to 20 times. This is especially true for large drawings and convex relief. Paper wallpapers for painting more than 4-5 stains are not used, they are generally not intended for multiple color changes. But the main difference between wallpaper for painting is that they are designed specifically for repeated painting of the surface.

Sometimes they try to paint thick vinyl wallpaper glued to the surface with the addition of PVA glue. However, this is a risky undertaking, even if it turns out well. Such experiments are possible only when you urgently need to paint over some defects or children's drawings on the wallpaper. If it does not work out well, you will have to remove the wallpaper and do a full repair. But there is no such risk if you immediately abandon the usual wallpaper in favor of rolled materials for painting. Although their cost is higher than ordinary paper wallpaper, it is not necessary to change the base during the next repair.

Wallpapers for painting have a more noble appearance, but, given their durability, you should immediately decide for yourself which texture you like best:

  • smooth;
  • with a small pattern;
  • with a large pattern;
  • with an effective structure.

Tip: If you do not know which wallpaper to choose for painting, how to glue and paint, do not refuse them. Paper rolls will soon lose their relevance, because they will be replaced by more practical ones - for repeated staining.

The base has different specifications, it is classified depending on the base material and the volumetric surface for wall painting:

  • fiberglass;
  • interlining;
  • vinyl;
  • thick impregnated paper;
  • linkrusta (volumetric relief is applied with a special mixture based on wood flour, chalk and wax).

The roll base for painting will last at least 15 - 20 years, especially with careful care. It is advisable to make the first tone as light as possible, since the wallpaper, even after applying the coloring composition, is a little translucent. The wallpaper itself is light - colorless, white or translucent, but there is a color base. The shade of paint is better to choose a tone darker than the base.

It is not recommended to wash ordinary wallpaper. If you are interested in whether it is possible to paint wallpaper not for painting, then experts advise doing it carefully, only rolls with a protective coating. The advantage of the base for painting is that it can be washed and repainted, which is especially important in the children's room and on surfaces that often get dirty. Not any paint is suitable for this, but only a special base for painting wallpaper. Interlining cannot be painted with heavy paint or based on aggressive solvents - it will spoil the three-dimensional pattern.

Attention: Wallpaper for painting can also be made multi-color, for this, vinyl rolls are impregnated from the inside with one color, and after pasting, the three-dimensional pattern is painted over with a sponge. But with this method it is better not to experiment on the walls without prior experience.

How to calculate paint consumption for wallpaper?

In order to deal with wallpaper painting without fear that there may not be enough paint, the correct consumption is important, which is calculated based on:

  • the total area of the painted surface;
  • paint consumption per 1 sq.m.;
  • the ability of the substrate to absorb paint.

The painting area is the sum of all the perimeters of the walls plus the ceiling, if it is supposed to be painted as well. The perimeter is the length multiplied by the width, the resulting value is the area of the painted surfaces. But from these indicators, the dimensions of window and door openings are subtracted, before painting the wallpaper for painting, they add a little margin for an unforeseen case - overspending, the paint is strongly absorbed, etc.

Paint consumption per 1 sq.m. indicated in the manufacturer's instructions or on the packaging. The same type of paint will differ from manufacturer in consistency (density), respectively, will be absorbed and consumed differently. Standard consumption does not exceed 180 g/sq.m in 1 layer and up to 250 g/sq.m. in 2 layers. At the same time, each material absorbs paint in its own way - paper and interlining absorb it much more than fiberglass or vinyl.

Look at the units of measurement, as they also indicate 1 kg / sq.m. and 1 ml/sq.m. The standard density of wallpaper paint weighs about 1.5 kg, that is, one and a half rads heavier than 1 liter of water. If the wallpaper has already been pasted, but the paint has not yet been purchased, it is not necessary to hurry with this - you can not paint the wallpaper for painting for a while, nothing will happen to them. But painting is also an additional surface protection against contamination.

How to choose the right paint and prepare for painting?

When choosing and buying wallpaper paints, various factors are taken into account, including the base material and the functionality of the room.

Each type of base involves its own type of paint:

  • for paper rolls - water-based;
  • for painting interlining - water-dispersion;
  • for fiberglass - acrylic or latex;
  • linkrusta - liquid oil, acrylic and wax paste.

1. For washable surfaces (bathroom and kitchen), acrylic and latex paints are preferable. They form a film, “breathe” worse, but are not afraid of exposure to steam and gentle cleaning.

2. In open areas and in sunlight, latex paints are used that do not fade under direct rays.

3. Each paint has its own light reflectance:

  • matte;
  • glossy;
  • satin;
  • semi-matt.

4. Moderate gloss satin paint is a great choice for kitchen, bathroom or washroom and is the most durable.

5. Matte paint hides the defects of the ceiling and walls well, copes well with excess lighting.

6. Glossy paint shines and enhances lighting when it is lacking. Sometimes, with a sponge dipped in this paint, the relief is painted over on a matte background - for a jacquard effect.

7. The easiest paint to apply is water-based, the most durable and versatile in use is acrylic. But you can not use any type of paint on wet wallpaper, they must dry for 2-3 days.

8. Before painting the wallpaper for painting, it is worth trying the color intensity on the control sample, if the shade is too pale, a pigment (color) is added. The concentration of pigment in each package must be the same, except for the special coloring "gradient".

9. First of all, the ceiling is painted, then the open walls, then the secondary ones, behind the furniture. All pieces of furniture must be taken out, the floor must be covered with newspapers, other open surfaces must be covered with film and masking tape.

10. A can of paint dries quickly, so it is not recommended to open it to see in advance. Immediately before application, the packaging is opened, diluted, poured into a special cuvette and painted with a paint roller.

11. Water-based paint has a white color, but the pigment is of any shade, but when diluted it looks lighter than after drying on the wall.

How to choose a roller and other tools for painting?

A paint roller is the most convenient tool for painting, since even a beginner can dip into a cuvette with finished paint and roll it on the surface of the walls with a roller. But there is different types tool, for example:

  • with a long pile;
  • velor roller;
  • with short hair.
  • foam roller;
  • fur roller.

Each of them gives its own effect when stained. A nozzle with a short pile is easy to roll only a relief pattern, and a long one will deeply color the entire texture. The foam surface gives uncolored bubbles if you lightly touch the walls without relief. Replaceable nozzles on the roller rinse well and check that the pile that can remain on the surface does not climb.

Paint brushes are used in hard-to-reach places where it is impossible to get perfect painting with a roller - corners, crevices, gaps, places behind pipes and radiators.

Paint is poured into a special cuvette so that the roller is wetted evenly and without excess. But it is better to stir the paint in a separate container, such as a plastic bucket, and then add it to a cuvette. Be sure to follow the proportion in the ratio of water and dye, for example, 10% by volume. Diluted paint is better absorbed by the roller and applied more evenly.

Tip: If you have difficulty choosing a tool, you don’t know which roller to paint wallpaper for painting, check with a consultant in a building materials store.

Features of painting non-woven wallpaper

Non-woven roll painting (wallpaper) is an excellent base for painted ceilings and walls, so it does not cause difficulties with how to paint non-woven wallpaper for painting. The smooth underside is glued to the walls, and the top embossed is painted. This base imitates more expensive surfaces, looks great on the wall and without staining.

If it is supposed to clean painted wallpaper, experts recommend using only paint with protective composition based on latex. Wallpaper is best painted over in 2 layers with a roller with a fur nozzle, and for difficult places use a brush. It is not recommended to drive the roller for a long time in one place and soak the wallpaper to excess.

Features of painting paper wallpaper

Thick two-layer paper wallpaper with special impregnation is the cheapest base for painting, looks good on the ceiling. Due to the fact that paper is afraid of water, the question arises - how to paint wallpaper for painting? Any specialized paint is suitable, but it should not be impregnated to excess either - one uniform standing is enough.

The second layer is possible if the first is applied with streaks or bald spots. It is extremely undesirable to leave glue on paper wallpaper, which could show through between the seams of the panels - this reduces the quality of the work.

Features of painting glass

Glass fiber is the most durable layer for painting, as it consists of fiberglass based on quartz sand. Popular textures - "herringbone", "track", "cobweb", etc. Suitable for repeated repainting, the most resistant base that hides all defects. The paint is not absorbed, but it droops deeply between the fibers of the wallpaper. Glass fiber is the same glass wool that is unpleasant for the skin, so it is imperative to work in protective clothing.

Fiberglass suggest priming before painting, but be sure to read the instructions. Acrylic or latex paint is a great choice for this base. Usually applied in 2 layers, but the second is possible only after the first has dried.

Features of painting vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpapers on a paper or non-woven backing give a rich multi-layered texture. The choice of paint - strictly in accordance with the instructions.

Before painting, a primer and acrylic paint for wallpaper are supposed to be applied, which is applied with a long-haired roller and a paint brush. After a slight drying, a second layer is immediately applied, including a decorative one - for a relief surface. Use the minimum amount of paint.

Most often, when painting wallpaper, the following questions arise:

  • How to paint wallpaper for painting?

This factor depends on the type of wallpaper. So for paper wallpapers, water-dispersion paint is suitable, for non-woven and vinyl wallpapers - water emulsion, for glass wallpapers - acrylic paint and latex paint compositions.

  • How to paint the wallpaper with water-based paint?

This is not an easy process. First, protect furniture and objects with a protective film to avoid contamination. In order not to damage the skin, you need to use gloves, goggles and closed clothing. Uneven walls must be leveled with a primer or putty (in this case, the paint will need to be applied in three layers). Mix the paint carefully. It is necessary to start painting from the window, from the light source. It is easier to paint from the corners with a brush, then with a roller. Stripes applied by roller should be vertical and stripes applied by brush should overlap each other (applied vertically and horizontally). The solution is washed off the walls with clean water.

  • Can wallpaper be applied to a painted wall?

If we are talking about wallpapering a painted wall, then, first of all, we need to talk about the risk. The consequence may be peeling off the wallpaper, the appearance of bubbles and bumps. But you can try. For the best effect, it is recommended to prime the walls. You can stick any wallpaper on the painted surface, except for vinyl. You can also try sanding the painted surface to make the wallpaper stick better.

  • Can wallpaper be painted?

You can paint vinyl and non-woven wallpaper. It is not advisable to paint paper wallpapers.

  • How to paint wallpaper on the ceiling?

If glass wallpapers are glued to the ceiling, then any paint will do, and only water-dispersion paint is suitable for non-woven wallpaper. It is also not recommended to paint the ceiling of residential premises with oil paint. Before painting the ceiling, it is necessary to de-energize the electrical wiring in order to avoid short circuits and accidents. Ensure that there are no drafts, lay floors and protect furniture. You need to use goggles, a hat and working tools: a roller, brushes, a ladder, a paint tray. The corners are painted with a brush, and the rest of the surface with a roller.

  • How to paint wallpaper for painting a second time?

Wallpaper for painting can be repainted more than 5 times (up to 15, depending on the manufacturer and type of wallpaper). You can repaint in any color, regardless of the previous one. When repainting a darker color into a light one, you must first paint it with pure white paint, and then apply the desired color.

Painting features

All types of wallpaper for painting require compliance with certain rules and knowledge of secrets for the best results. At the same time, the composition of the surface is first taken into account, since it is better to paint glass wallpapers with latex, and non-woven bases are better with water-based paint. You always need to make a test: first on a separate piece of canvas, then on a section of the canvas that will be covered with furniture.

It should be noted that the paint is diluted only to create the first primer layer (add 10% of water from the total volume). However, this is not done for cullet, since it is better to paint cullet with two dense layers. At the same time, an interval of at least 12 hours is maintained. That is why they can be applied to the maximum number of layers compared to other materials.

In total, any type of wallpaper for painting can withstand 5-10 new layers. Then they may start to loosen from the wall, and in order not to wait for this, they should be removed if the surface needs to be painted again. Then the wallpaper is purchased again, and pasted on the walls according to standard rules. You can paint them only after complete drying, which lasts about 12 hours.

Final coating

After the base coat has dried, it's time for the realization of creative impulses. Patterns or drawings can be applied to the walls and ceiling. In addition, the surface can be coated with a colorless varnish. This is especially true in the nursery and bathroom, as well as in the kitchen. This coating is less prone to contamination. At the same time, it can be washed with a regular damp sponge.

The algorithm of work is the same as when painting with paint. The choice between glossy and matte varnish depends only on personal preferences. However, it is worth considering that even a matte varnish will add a slight sheen to the surface.

  • Before starting work, remove all oversized objects from the room. Cover large furniture with cling film or old sheets.
  • The floor should also be covered with film or newspapers.
  • Cover with masking tape the areas of the walls that do not need to be painted (skirting boards, sockets, switches).
  • Wet the roller with paint liberally and evenly. However, it should not drip.
  • The ideal wallpaper color for painting is white or light shades.
  • Use a spray gun for absolutely even painting.
  • Non-woven wallpaper can be painted on both sides. The use of snow-white putty will emphasize the depth of color.
  • Matte paint will help hide the flaws of the walls and traces of old wallpaper.
  • It is strictly forbidden to paint a surface that is not completely dry after wallpapering.
  • The use of a brush and roller in the work wears out the base, reducing the number of possible repaints up to 6-8 times. To achieve 10-fold repainting without loss of quality, you need to use an airbrush.
  • Do not leave wallpaper uncoated. The paint provides them with resistance to damage and durability.

Two sides of the coin

Although this method of updating the interior has earned a lot of compliments, any medal has two sides. Before making a decision, it is worth weighing all the pros and cons.

Arguments "for":

  • They allow you to bring any idea to life. If a suitable color is not on sale, you can use the tinting service and create the desired one manually.
  • The painted surface is easy to clean from dirt with a wet cleaning.
  • Defects that have appeared (stains, children's drawings) can be easily eliminated with a brush. You do not have to re-paste a piece of wallpaper, or even a whole wall.
  • Painting wallpaper is easier than re-pasting. Non-woven wallpaper can be repainted up to 10 times.
  • It is easier to work with arches, corners and other non-standard shapes.

Arguments against:

  • For quality result you need to prepare the walls.
  • The ideal effect will be obtained only with the right choice of paint and tools.
  • Most paints absorb dust.
  • Paints protect from small mechanical damages. But a serious blow will cause visible damage to them.

How to apply the first layer

In the process of staining, the most difficult moment for beginners who will do this business with their own hands is the application of the primary layer. The final result and the final appearance of the walls or ceiling depend on how well the first layer is applied.

But before considering the features of applying water-based paint with your own hands, it should be noted that the base for the paint should be special. For these purposes, such wallpaper for painting is suitable:

  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • glass wall papers.

Some people wonder "is it possible to paint liquid wallpaper." This question arose from the specifics that liquid wallpaper has. After application to the surface, liquid wallpaper allows you to create a layer of finish that is pleasant to the touch. But it will be lost if the liquid wallpaper is stained. Therefore, if you still decide to paint liquid wallpaper, weigh the pros and cons. Experts recommend using not liquid wallpaper, but the above-mentioned materials as the basis for paint.

Typically, paint on a base such as wallpaper (special or liquid) is applied in several layers. The main thing here is to apply the first layer correctly, and the rest will already lie down without problems. The technology of applying paint in several layers allows you to get certain patterns and patterns on the ceiling or walls. Moreover, if you master this technology correctly, you can achieve an unusual result, even without being an artist.

To apply the first coat of paint, special preparation should be carried out. It involves gluing all places that should not get paint with special masking tape. In addition, on the ceiling or walls, you need to clean the entire work surface from dust and dirt. For these purposes, use a damp cloth.

Also, before painting, it is necessary to purchase water-based paint with pigment. It is necessary to calculate the consumption of coloring material per 1 m2 on the surface. This is necessary in order to immediately prepare the required volume of the mixture, and so that it has the same color. This is the only way to achieve a uniform shade over the entire surface of the ceiling and walls.

After the preparation has been completed, you can begin to apply the primary layer with your own hands. In this situation, the algorithm of the actions taken has the following form:

  • First, a little dye should be applied to a section of the wall or ceiling. This area should be the least visible. So you can visually evaluate the final result and the correctness of the chosen proportions used to prepare the dye.
  • If the result suits you, painting the remaining areas on the ceiling or walls should be done with a soft roller.
  • The first layer is applied in one direction, and all subsequent layers in the other.

After that, when the first thin coat of paint has been applied to the prepared surface, it must be allowed to dry completely.

Remember that after painting the walls or ceiling with water-based paint, it will be quite problematic to stick wallpaper on them. Therefore, if an application is planned, the place of its application must be covered with masking tape before painting.

Drawings and decoration

After the first layer of paint has dried, you can start decorating the ceiling or walls by creating certain applications, ornaments and patterns on their surface.

This stage should be planned even before the repair and purchase of wallpaper. Indeed, today such a finish has an extensive range of products, differing in texture, patterns and other characteristics.

When creating drawings with other types of paint, you can use a hard roller and wallpaper with a pronounced relief. Thus, with your own hands you can paint the wallpaper with water-based paint of a different color and get a beautiful and unusual pattern. In addition, to obtain certain artistic effects, you can use the following tools:

  • brushes of different sizes;
  • stencils;
  • cotton swabs.

Thanks to such tools, a person will be able to create even a complex floral ornament with his own hands.

Decor and drawings are applied with dyes of other colors that contrast with the primary layer. It is desirable that the dye chosen in this situation has certain properties (for example, moisture resistance, mechanical resistance, etc.). For these purposes, there are a wide variety of special artistic compositions. But their cost is quite high. Therefore, they are usually used by professionals who have the necessary skills and knowledge.

If the paint does not have additional properties, after it dries for a longer service life, the surface of the walls and ceiling can be varnished.

The key to successful application of the decor with water-based paint is properly selected materials that have compatible components. Using such materials, even a beginner can achieve excellent results and high quality of hand-made work.

What paint to choose

When choosing paint for wallpaper, remember that it must have a water or alkyd base. At the same time, many people prefer water-based dyes. For example, non-woven fabrics are painted only with such dyes.

Before deciding on your final paint finish, paint a small piece of trim and see how it looks. This is due to the fact that different compositions have different degrees of hiding power, which can lead to uneven application of the dye to the base. So you can choose the best option for your finish.

There are several types of water-based paint, but they are all suitable for applying to wallpaper.

Material and surface preparation

Some experts at the preparation stage advise applying a primer to the canvases in order to ensure a better distribution of paint over the surface of the finish and prevent the formation of stains. Usually paint spots appear due to uneven impregnation of the surface of the finish. But in this situation, when using special wallpaper and water-based paint, the use of a primer is not prerequisite. In addition, the finish itself already has high adhesion, which does not need to be increased additionally.

You also need to carry out the following manipulations:

  • de-energize the room to prevent short circuits and accidents;
  • the temperature regime of the room must comply with the requirements of the technology for applying the dye;
  • close all windows and doors to prevent the risk of drafts (this will allow uniform drying of painted surfaces);
  • cover the floor, doors and windows with covering material.

In addition, you will need the following materials:

  • different types of rollers for applying the primary layer and patterns;
  • brushes;
  • tray;
  • masking tape;
  • ladder.

It will not be superfluous to use protective clothing (gloves, hats, glasses) in the work.

step by step process

Applying a water-based dye to the prepared surface of the wallpaper is no different from painting, for example, a fence. The main thing is to know and observe the following provisions:

  • First, paint the corners with a brush. In this case, it is necessary to evenly distribute the paint in the corner, avoiding its overabundance. To do this, it is distributed over the surface of the walls near the corner.
  • Lay the first layer horizontally. In this case, the entry to the previous strip should be 5-10 cm. This method is applicable for two-layer staining.
  • With three-layer scrolling, the first layer is applied vertically. The last staining is carried out from top to bottom. The edge of the roller, with a vertical passage, should not coincide with the junction of the canvases.

As you can see, applying water-based paint with your own hands is a fairly simple process. The main thing in this situation is to adhere to the above provisions and the end result will be excellent.

Types of wallpaper for painting and their features

Wallpaper for painting, like a clean canvas of the artist, provides scope for the embodiment of the most daring creative ideas. After painting, they can become an accent of the interior or successfully emphasize it with color and texture. In order for everything to work out as intended, it is important to choose the right basis for the future masterpiece.

Wallpaper intended for painting is wider than usual and much longer; two or three rolls are enough for pasting an average room. Trade offers a choice for every demand. In order not to be mistaken, you need to take into account the main characteristics of the coating.

Production material

There are three types of wallpaper for painting:

  • paper;
  • non-woven;
  • fiberglass.

Paper ones consist of two layers impregnated with a moisture-repellent composition. They are inexpensive, easy to glue, but short-lived and inferior in density to other types. Their resistance to abrasion is also lower.

Non-woven fabrics are resistant to stretching and tearing, do not wrinkle. The structure of the base is porous, allows air to pass through, due to which the walls “breathe”. A pattern is applied to the non-woven base with foamed vinyl, which is why they are also called vinyl.

Their density is higher, and this allows you to hide minor defects and uneven walls - there is no need to carefully prepare the base before gluing. Such wallpapers are more expensive than paper ones, but they will last much longer without losing their properties.

Fiberglass is made from a fiber similar to glass wool. The most dense, wear-resistant and durable type, but also the most expensive. Well glued to the wall, creating the effect of a seamless canvas, hides all the defects of the base. Repels moisture and dust, fire and heat resistant.

Features of the base must be taken into account depending on the purpose of the room and the microclimate in it.

  1. Due to the low strength, paper wallpaper should not be pasted over the walls in the nursery and hallway. But for the ceiling, they are quite suitable.
  2. In rooms with high humidity, it is also better to prefer interlining or fiberglass.
  3. The strength and wear resistance of the fiberglass base make it possible to use it even for office and public spaces.

Another important characteristic is texture.

Texture

Most often, wallpapers are made with a convex pattern on the front side, but there are also smooth ones. Considering that the coating will last at least 10 years, choose the appropriate texture:

  • smooth;
  • small drawing;
  • large pattern;
  • fabric imitation;
  • geometric pattern;
  • floral ornament;
  • floral pattern.

Consider the area of \u200b\u200bthe room, its purpose, the interior and the color of the future coating. So, a smooth base is suitable for the ceiling, with a small pattern or imitation of stucco. A large pattern looks in a spacious room, imitation of fabric will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in the bedroom, a geometric pattern is appropriate in an office, hallway or office.

The walls can be left unpainted, this will not reduce the dignity of the coating. If the design implies color, approach the choice of paint responsibly.

Paint selection

To paint the wallpaper, paints are used:

  • water emulsion;
  • water-dispersion;
  • latex;
  • acrylic.

Each type of wallpaper requires its own paint:

  • paper is preferably painted with water-based;
  • non-woven is suitable for water-dispersion and water-based;
  • cullets are covered with latex and acrylic.

This division is conditional. It happens that non-woven is coated with latex or acrylic paint or fiberglass is painted with water-based paint. The choice also depends on the location.

  1. It is better to cover the walls in the bathroom and in the kitchen with latex or acrylic paint, which creates a waterproof film on the surface. Such a coating can be washed frequently without fear of damage.
  2. Latex paint should also be preferred for sun-exposed areas. It does not fade and retains its original color for a long time.
  3. Water-based paint is washed off with water; it is not recommended to wash such a coating.
  4. Water-dispersion water is not afraid, the surfaces covered with it can be washed.

Paints also differ in reflective ability:

  • glossy;
  • semi-matt;
  • matte;
  • satin.

Glossy best reflects light, creating the effect of a mirror surface. With its help, you can compensate for the lack of lighting and visually enlarge a small space.

Matte will make imperceptible imperfections and surface irregularities, clearly visible when painted with glossy paint. Dims too bright light, creates a feeling of softness and comfort.

Satin has a moderate sheen, similar to silk or satin. Commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms due to its durability.

You can buy ready-made paint of the color you like or tint white, any construction hypermarket provides such a service. It is easy to do it yourself by buying a tinting paste. But you need to prepare the paint immediately for the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe room, otherwise the shade will be different.

Before buying required amount paint, get a small amount. By painting a wall or a piece of wallpaper, you can see if the color matches your expectations.

What you need for coloring

Before you start painting, prepare necessary tools and inventory.

  • paint rollers;
  • brushes;
  • cuvette or tray for paint;
  • masking tape;
  • ladder;
  • rag to remove splashes.

Separately, it is worth talking about rollers - this is the main tool for painting work. They differ in size and material of manufacture:

  • foam;
  • velor (with a short pile);
  • fur (with long and medium pile).

For simple painting, you will need two rollers: a small one and a large one. It is convenient for small ones to paint over the contour, for large ones the main work is done.

In order to paint over the textured wallpaper to the entire depth of the pattern, you will need a roller with a pile of 1.5-1.8 cm. A velor roller with a short pile will help to roll only the pattern. For this purpose, you can use foam rubber, but when stained, it leaves bubbles on the surface.

The brush is used for painting hard-to-reach areas where roller work is not possible. These are corners, cracks, sections behind pipes. She also paints over the contour of the ceiling and floor.

Tape needed for protection ceiling plinths, sockets, pipes, window slopes and so on. If the walls are painted in two or more colors, the border is marked with adhesive tape.

Paint is poured into a cuvette or bath. The ribbed surface helps to completely saturate the roller and remove excess paint from it.

Before pouring the paint into the cuvette, put a bag on it. You do not have to wash the bath after work.

What you need to know before coloring

  1. Wallpaper to be painted must dry completely after gluing. Usually it takes 2-3 days.
  2. The first time the coating is painted at least two times. The second layer is applied only after the first one has completely dried, the drying time is indicated on the paint packaging and is at least an hour.
  3. Glass fiber is recommended to be primed before painting, this information is indicated in the annotation. Non-woven and paper additional processing is not required.
  4. After pasting non-woven wallpaper, remove all traces of glue, otherwise the paint will lie unevenly.
  5. Keep in mind that when staining in several layers, the final color will be more saturated. Therefore, it is recommended to make the first layer a little lighter than the next.
  6. The paint should have the consistency of liquid sour cream. If necessary, thin the paint with water or thinner and mix thoroughly until smooth.
  7. The optimum temperature for painting work is 17-22 0 C.

Having prepared everything you need, get to work.

How to paint: how to work

  1. Clear the room of bulky furniture. If this is not possible, cover it with a film.
  2. Cover with tape all the elements that should not be painted.
  3. Cover the floor with protective material.
  4. Wear work clothes, a hat, and gloves so you don't have to wash off the paint.
  5. To prevent lint from new rollers from remaining on the surface, roll them over masking tape, the lint will remain on the adhesive surface.
  6. Pour enough paint into the pan so that it fills the depression, but does not cover the corrugated surface.
  7. Start painting from the top. Paint with a brush a contour 5-7 cm wide around the perimeter of the ceiling. Use a ladder.
  8. Roll a small roller in a ditch so that it is completely saturated with paint. Remove the excess on the corrugated surface.
  9. Paint the walls along the ceiling to the width of the roller.
  10. Change the roller to a large one, saturate it with paint.
  11. Paint the walls from top to bottom with vertical strokes. Try to apply the paint evenly, and not saturate the base.
  12. Paint over hard-to-reach places and the space to the floor with a small roller and brush.
  13. After the paint has dried, apply a second coat.
  14. Remove splashes with a rag.
  15. After work, rinse the rollers and brushes and dry them.

The decoration of the ceiling with wallpaper has its own characteristics. The canvases are glued perpendicular to the line of the window so that the joints are not noticeable. For the same purpose, the ceiling is painted in straight lines along the canvases.

First, the perimeter along the walls and corners is painted over with a brush, then the entire surface is rolled with a roller. Start painting indoors from the ceiling, and then move on to painting the walls.

Paper wallpapers do not like excess moisture. When painting, do not saturate them with paint heavily.

Wallpapers give limitless scope for creative imagination. The possibilities of this coating do not end with simple staining.

Non-standard design of pasted walls

Wallpaper for painting makes it possible to decorate the walls in several colors, apply a gradient color, apply a pattern, highlight the texture and much more.

Shader selection

The painting technique allows you to highlight the pattern on the wallpaper, to make it voluminous. You can do this in several ways:

Method 1

Suitable for non-woven wallpaper. As already mentioned, this type of base is also painted from the inside out. The paint will show through from the front side and create a background for the convex pattern. The drawing is left white or painted with a short pile velor roller in a darker or lighter paint, but another shade can be used.

Method 2

Instead of the wrong side, sometimes they paint the wall under the wallpaper in a bright color. The base will muffle the color, make it softer and highlight the textured pattern. As with the first method, the pattern is painted with a different shade or left white.

Method 3

Lightly wipe the freshly painted wallpaper with a damp cloth, removing the paint from the pattern. You need to act carefully and without pressure. After the wallpaper dries, the pattern is painted in a different shade.

Coloring in several colors

It is used to highlight one or more zones in a room, add bright accents, creating a conceived interior style or just for self-expression.

Combine colors according to certain rules:

  1. A combination of related colors (lilac with gray, mint with blue and others).
  2. Gradient coloring, that is, a combination different shades one color from intense to pale or vice versa.
  3. Emphasizing colors with a combination of contrasting shades (red with green).

To create a harmonious contrast, knowledge of color will not interfere. If this is not your forte, follow the rule: use only those combinations that are found in nature and do not combine more than two colors.

You can combine colors vertically, horizontally or diagonally - the choice depends on the goal. For zoning, a vertical combination is used; for the implementation of design ideas, horizontal or diagonal is often used.

Zoning

This technique is used to highlight several functional areas in one room. For this purpose, a combination rich color with a softer shade of it - a gradient.

Whether one of the walls will be a different color or all the walls will be different shades depends on your vision of the interior. This technique is used to highlight a recreation area or workplace in a common room. If there is a niche or ledge in the room, beat them with a different shade.

Horizontal or diagonal division

The classic version of the horizontal division of the wall: the lower third of one color, the upper two thirds of another. They can simply be divided by a smooth border, or decorated with molding, border, ornament, mosaic, and whatever fantasy tells.

But no one is forcing you to stick to this particular option. The boundary can also pass in the middle of the wall, above, below or almost under the ceiling. This is your home and you decide how it will look.

It is not necessary to make the border straight. Make it wavy, blurry, broken or radius, dividing the wall diagonally, combine horizontal and vertical lines and stripes.

The borders of different colors are pasted over with tape to keep the lines clean. 10 minutes after staining, the adhesive tape is removed.

wallpaper pattern

It's not as difficult as it seems. There are various techniques, some of which are available even to beginners.

Method 1 - using a special roller with a convex pattern

The roller is similar to the usual one, but consists of two parts: one is textured, with a pattern, the second is rubber.

Before drawing a pattern on the walls, practice on an unnecessary piece of wallpaper so that the pattern does not smudge and its elements match. For novice artists, it is better to mark the wall into stripes, otherwise the drawing may move out, its rhythm will be disturbed.

Video: drawing a pattern with a textured roller

Method 2 - using a stencil

You can buy a stencil ready-made or make your own. It is made of thin plastic, film or cardboard. The drawing is easy to find on the Internet and print on a printer.

  1. Using carbon paper or tracing paper, transfer the pattern to the blank under the stencil.
  2. Sharp clerical or construction knife cut out the pattern.
  3. Mark the wall so that the pattern lays flat.
  4. Attach the stencil to the wall with masking tape.
  5. Dip a foam sponge into the paint and wring out the excess.
  6. Apply the paint to the stencil with soft wet motions.
  7. Wait 10 minutes and transfer the stencil to another location.

This process is painstaking and slow, but the result is worth the effort. Yes, it's creative and fun.

Method 3 - using stamps

Ready-made stamps are sold in stores, but improvised means can also be used. A foam sponge, a bottle cap, a broom and even ... hands will help to apply a unique pattern to the wallpaper. Practice on the remnants of the wallpaper to be sure of the result.

The stamp is evenly covered with paint and pressed against the wall. The paint should not be too liquid, otherwise it will flow and the drawing will turn out to be smeared. Not enough paint will not leave a clear print, an excess will smear the drawing.

With a foam sponge, you can create an abstract pattern by tamponing. With wetting movements, the sponge is pressed against the wall in a chaotic manner.

Method 4 - do-it-yourself painting

Circles, rings, squares, triangles - everyone can create the simplest wallpaper pattern. So you can arrange panels or place elements over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe wall.

It's a little harder to paint the full picture. In this case, a home projector will help. Bring the sheet with the image to the device, and simply circle the resulting projection on the wall with a pencil. If you have artistic abilities, you can try to draw a picture yourself.

The elements of the picture are glued along the contour with adhesive tape, the drawing is painted with a sponge or brush. The main condition for success is accuracy.

Features of painting different rooms

Fantasy is fantasy, but it is desirable that the color and pattern of the wall covering match functional purpose premises.

The living room is the face and front hall of the house. Here you can give free rein to imagination and the flight of creative thought. Just keep in mind that the whole family gathers in this room and guests are received. It is important that everyone is comfortable in the created space.

The bedroom is hidden from prying eyes and belongs only to you. This is a place of rest, and therefore the interior should not excite or irritate. It is better to decorate the walls in pastel colors with a discreet pattern.

The interior of the nursery implies bright and joyful colors. Images of fairy-tale characters or cartoon characters are appropriate here.

Leave one area unpainted so that young artists can paint without fear of criticism. Artwork will then be easy to paint over, providing a blank canvas for new creations.

Coloring helps change appearance decorative wall coverings without any extra effort. A person doing repairs with his own hands, the question arises as to whether it is possible to paint paper wallpapers with water-based paint. It is allowed to paint such coatings, but a number of rules must be observed.

On the left - paper, on the right - vinyl white wallpaper with a texture for painting.

What wallpaper can be painted with water emulsion

Not every material is suitable for painting with water-based formulations. The corresponding wallpaper has a special marking and a plain surface. You can apply water-based paint on such materials:

  1. Paper. Withstand the application of the coloring agent. The composition fits well on the glued walls, evenly covering them and impregnating the base. Surfaces retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time. The paint is applied on a dry base.
  2. Vinyl. It is recommended to choose non-woven material. A roller is also used to apply the water-based composition.
  3. Glass cloth. Adheres well to most paint products. Fiberglass can be painted several times, adjusting the walls to the interior of the room.

When staining relief coatings, the coloring agent is applied in 3-4 layers.

How to prepare for work

Before starting the repair, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

When painting wallpaper with a roller, the use of a tool break-in tray is mandatory.
  • roller with a velor nozzle with a long pile;
  • foam cylinder for processing embossed wallpaper;
  • narrow flat brush;
  • tool tray;
  • masking tape;
  • water-based coloring agent;
  • color.

The preparatory stage includes the following steps:

  1. Paint tinting. You can perform this action at a hardware store. Large firms offer the service of computer shade selection. The program calculates the amount of color needed to create the selected color. The information is stored in the computer's memory, so there are no problems with ordering an additional amount of paint.
  2. Wallpaper cleaning. It is necessary to free the coating from dust and contaminants that can worsen the applied decorative layer. The walls are wiped with a damp cloth. Paper surfaces are dried for 2-3 hours, after which painting begins.

How to paint different types of wallpaper

The paper coating is sensitive to moisture, so you need to work with it carefully. Ordinary wallpaper can be painted with a spray gun.

Before painting the wallpaper, the switches and the protruding socket housing should be dismantled.

The order of work includes the following steps:

  1. Removing protrusions.Rosettes, plinths and decorative items are removed. These parts can be sealed with masking tape, which will protect against paint ingress.
  2. ABOUT processing of hard-to-reach places. The joints of the walls and ceiling are painted over with a narrow brush, without any effort. Areas near sockets are treated with a strip of paint 5 cm wide.
  3. Painting flat surfaces. It is not necessary to prime the wallpaper before painting. The water-based composition is poured into the tray. A small amount of funds is captured with a roller. The tool is rolled on the ribbed side of the cuvette. Processing starts from the top corner of the wall, moving to the opposite side. Manipulations are performed in 1 run, preventing the paint from drying out in adjacent areas. The stripes are overlapped. So the composition will lie in an even layer.
  4. Application of the second layer. The surface is dried for 6-8 hours. When re-painting, the same rules are observed as for the initial processing of the wall.

How to paint interlining and vinyl

Non-woven materials are painted before gluing: the composition is applied with a roller or brush on the reverse side. In this way, the base is impregnated, which absorbs moisture better, which makes it easier to obtain the desired shade with the front side. Glue the canvas to the wall after the paint has dried. Vinyl surface protects the non-woven base.

Moisture-resistant materials are used to decorate walls in the bathroom or kitchen. Foamed vinyl must not be painted before gluing.

The first layer is applied in a simple way, distributing the composition with a velor roller, hard-to-reach places are treated with a brush. This is how the ink penetrates into the depressions of the embossing.

The second layer may not be required, but if there are flaws, you need to apply the composition again. This can be done only after the previous coating has dried.

fiberglass wallpaper

This base is best suited for painting. To form a relief, the coloring agent is applied several times. The base composition is distributed twice on the wall desired color. After the base has dried with a soft nozzle, the protruding parts of the embossing are treated with a different shade. The drawing can be made monophonic, contrasting colors look no less attractive.

Fiberglass wallpapers can be decorated up to 10 times. This reduces the time and cost of repairs. If necessary, only part of the wall can be processed. with vinyl or acrylic coated paint adheres worse.
