If you have a gazebo at your dacha, then you probably have thought more than once how to equip it. The main and main element country furniture is a table at which all family or friends can gather. This will require logs, tools and a little imagination.

Why exactly logs

Probably, every person at least once in his life saw a wooden blockhouse in the Russian style. Exactly from the same logs you can make beautiful table for a gazebo or even at home. A similar homemade furniture used in the interior of the bath. It can be easily assembled by hand. To do this, you need to acquire necessary materials and tools.

Tools

From materials it is necessary to stock up on a log and, if necessary, stain. From the tools you need to acquire:

  • saw and hacksaw;
  • drill with large drills;
  • a plane;
  • screws and nails;
  • glue "Moment" for wood and metal;
  • hammer;
  • a piece of leveled reinforcement;
  • sandpaper.

Scheme for work

To take into account all the little things before work, you need to think over the drawing. It is imperative to mark each size on it. If you are going to align the boards only on one side, then the diagram must be made in 3D.

If you will not process the boards, then a two-dimensional drawing is sufficient. As a result, all parts of the table with their real size should be drawn on the diagram.

Material preparation

First, make sure you have enough wood according to the drawing and size. If, according to the design project, it is supposed to make a rough table with legs of rough wood, then the processing will take place with minimal cost labor and time. If it is assumed that the finished specimen should turn out to be more elegant, then in this case the tree must be carefully processed with a plane.

In the finished bottom boards, you need to make holes for the reinforcement. There is no need to do them through and through. Enough in half the thickness of the board. Each hole should be spaced 30-40 cm apart. Boards that are above the lower ones are drilled through at an angle of 90 degrees.

On a note!

If there are irregularities on the boards, then they can be easily removed with a planer. You can sand the surface and make it perfectly flat with sandpaper. This concludes the preparation of the wood.

Assembly of the lower structure

To make the structure strong and last a long time, you need to assemble all the parts with glue and fittings. First, they work with fittings and boards with holes superimposed on each other. The metal bars should protrude slightly. We make a mark close to the hole, take it out and saw it off with a hacksaw. We insert the reinforcement back into the boards and fill everything free space glue.

Table top

The top can be assembled in two ways. Let's consider the first one.

Method 1

While the glue that holds the wood to the reinforcement dries, proceed to the assembly of the countertop. If you do not plan to put anything heavy on the upper part, then you can cover the top with a sheet of chipboard. To decorate, glue it with self-adhesive paper. This method of making a tabletop is suitable only if the height and width of the table does not exceed 1 meter.

Method 2

If you want the table to be more elegant and beautiful, you can attach the treated beams. The entire rough surface is processed with a plane and sandpaper. When you are sure that all parts have a uniform structure, you can file all sharp edges to eliminate the possibility of injury.

Wipe the finished table first with a damp cloth, then dry. Now you can start varnishing the finished product. The protective solution can be applied in one layer. This is enough to protect the surface from the elements.

In order for wood furniture to please you for a long time, there are some tips that cannot be neglected:

  • Be sure to protect wooden furniture from precipitation and temperature extremes. For this, special solutions and formulations can be found in stores.
  • Be sure to process all corners and surfaces that come in contact with the body. This way you protect yourself from splinters and other injuries.
  • Do not neglect drawing up a drawing. This will help you calculate the amount of material and think through all the little things.

In such simple ways, you can assemble an amazingly beautiful wooden table.

After watching the video, you will learn how to make a table from a log with your own hands.

One of the most important places personal plot (of course, after the beds) - a recreation area. Special attention is paid to its arrangement, since rest in the bosom of nature is an indispensable attribute of summer cottage life.

Evening "gatherings" with friends in the open air at a table in the garden, morning tea in the gazebo, or lunch on a hot afternoon under the canopy of a pergola: memories of such minutes make you look forward to the next summer seasonforgetting about other, less pleasant aspects of country life - digging beds or weeding.

Fantasies on the topic: how to make a table from logs with the least investment of time, effort and money

The comfort of holidaymakers largely depends on the furniture in the recreation area - it must be stable, comfortable and good quality in order to withstand both atmospheric phenomena (wind, hail, rain and even snow) and various human factors.

Purchasing high-quality furniture with such properties is not a cheap pleasure. In addition, factory-made garden furniture deprives a recreation area of \u200b\u200bindividuality and does not always fit organically into the surrounding landscape, and designer furniture is not available to everyone.

The most optimal solution in such cases - manufacturing garden furniture from logs with your own hands: there are a great many options for making tables, chairs or benches, and making them is quite easy. In addition, the decision on how to make a table from logs is dictated by the location of the recreation area, the number of family members and the degree of hospitality of the owners. The exclusivity of such a table is guaranteed: no matter what principle it is made, no one will have exactly the same, because each product is individual.

The simplest wayhow to make a table from logs - use a suitable stump from a sawn tree (if it is located in the intended recreation area). In this case, the stump is not even uprooted - boards are stuffed onto the cut, or a round shield is attached from the coil of cable products (its end part is ideal for round table). This shield can be used for another option: any log of a suitable height (usually 70 - 90 cm) is equipped with crosses (as shown in Fig. 1), a shield is nailed to the upper end, its surface is painted, or upholstered with oilcloth using a construction stapler.

However, such furniture does not fit into every corner of the rest: the natural style is perfect for a garden or the edge of a forest - there it will be organic and appropriate.

Features of self-manufacturing garden furniture

For adjoining territory or the gazebo is more suitable for a rustic style, and it needs to be paid more attention - making furniture in rustic style takes more time and effort and also requires the use of more tools.

When making garden furniture from logs with your own hands, it is very important not to forget about two things:

  • Impregnation of wood special formulations, protecting it from atmospheric influences - otherwise the tree will quickly rot or lose its aesthetic value;
  • Grinding all surfaces and cutting corners - otherwise the rest will be overshadowed by various injuries such as splinters, abrasions, bruises.

To make a table from logs, you will need the following tools and consumables:

  • Chain saw (it is desirable that the chain be hooked), an electric drill with a 10-15mm drill, reinforcement bars of the same diameter, a hacksaw for metal, a file;
  • Planer, sandpaper (4, 2 and zero for finishing), universal glue (best of all - epoxy);
  • Ax, chisel, hammer, screwdriver, screws and nails suitable sizes;
  • Special impregnation for wood (for outdoor use) and varnish, brush or roller;
  • Stain, paint on wood for outdoor use - if toning or coloring of the product is supposed.

Before starting work, it is imperative to complete a drawing, indicating all structural details, their dimensions and location.

Several options for how to make a table from a rounded log

If there are already wooden structures on the site (a house, a bathhouse or a gazebo), there must be scraps of rounded logs with a diameter of 0.2 m - this is the most common size of logs for log cabins.

Table No. 1. Universal base for regular table top.

For the base, you need logs of length:

  • 1 meter - 3 pcs. (Fig. 2, countertop logs and log 8);
  • 0.9 meters - 3 pcs. (Fig. 2, logs 1, 2, 7);
  • 0.8 meters - 2 pcs. (Fig. 2, logs 3, 4);
  • 0.7 meters - 2 pcs. (Fig. 2, logs 5, 6).

And also a bar 5x5 or 6x6 cm - 3 meters (Fig. 2, screed).

Making the base of the table.

To make a table from a rounded log, it is necessary to master some techniques for joining logs. In this case, it is a cup connection. Figure 3 shows the principle of this design.

1step. Manufacturing of elements. If the cuttings of the logs already have “cup” recesses, then it is necessary that they are exactly in the middle of the segments - this ensures the stability of the structure. If not, you will have to cut them down yourself: first make cuts, then finally arrange the bosom of the bowl with an ax, having achieved a semicircular shape (see photo 1).

The dimensions of the bowl should correspond to the dimensions of the log: the length is equal to the diameter, the depth is equal to half of it.

Logs 1 to 7 are folded as shown in figure 3 in the order shown in fig. 1 (top diagram). Moreover, under the ends of the log 2, small segments of the halves of the log are placed - legs that give stability to the entire structure.

Places for dowels are additionally marked on the logs (additional fastening from reinforcing bars, Fig. 1 - marked with dashes). It is convenient to mark the holes as follows: on the lower log, in the place of the intended hole, drip a little nail polish with a brush - the varnish will stain the lower part of the log of the next row when applied. The holes must be made strictly in the vertical direction, the depth of the hole is 8-10 cm. Marks are also made on the legs.

It is better to assemble the table structure immediately on site, since the structure is heavy enough to carry:

First, log 1 is laid, a little glue is poured into the holes, and pieces of reinforcing bar are inserted (the length of each of them is from 16 to 20 cm, depending on the depth of the holes). Log 2 is placed on top of the bowl. The procedure with the rods is repeated. Next, log 3 is tried on, which is strung on the dowels of the 1st log: if the rods prevent a tight connection of the logs, then they are shortened using a hacksaw for metal, if not, the rods are greased with glue and the log takes its place. The structure of the entire skeleton is folded in a similar way.

Tabletop manufacturing and installation.

One meter long logs are sawn lengthwise, the reverse side of the sawing of 5 out of 6 obtained "half-logs" is cut to a thickness of about 5 cm. The sixth is sawn down to a length of 90 cm and placed on the 7th log, cut up (also attached with reinforcement).

If possible, it is better to entrust the sawing to specialists - it is necessary that the log be divided into two absolutely equal halves (see photo).

Before laying the countertop parts, it is necessary to make a screed from a bar. The location is shown in Fig. 2 (lower diagram, dotted line), the inset diagram is shown in Fig. 4. The end parts of the logs are sawn off, as shown by hatching in Fig. 1.

Parts of the table top are laid on the crosspiece of the frame, as shown in Fig. 2, fastened and filed in a circle.

If you need a square table, parts of the table top are mounted on a cross, as shown in Fig. 5.

Table - bench made of logs

Figure 1

Knowing the methods of connecting the logs, from the illustrations you can understand how to make a table and a bench from logs - in the second case, bowls are made only in the 1st and 2nd logs, all the rest are fastened with reinforcement (tongue-and-groove connection).

If you like to relax in the country, take care of arranging it. In order not to buy boring, expensive mass-produced sets, make a table from logs with your own hands. What could be better than natural materials and solid structures? Their massive appearance inspires confidence and calmness.

Of course, working with such serious material as logs is within the power of strong men. But sometimes you can afford a small compromise - ordering cutting thick trunks from professionals who have the necessary experience and tools.

If you have finished the construction of a cozy gazebo, then you still have logs. Feel free to take on a new business - creating a table.

Materials and tools

Prepare everything you need for work:

  1. Prepare the logs. Check the amount of work material against your plans. If there are not enough logs, you will have to:
  • limit more simple option - make a table on log legs;
  • not abandon the idea, but purchase additional material.
  1. Use a hammer and chisel to remove bark from the logs.
  2. Work the cleaned material with a plane. On the lower parts of the trunks, remove a small layer of wood, making the contact surface even. Thus, the logs can be stacked one on top of the other. The cut width should be at least 4-5 cm. Using another method of stacking - "in the bowl" - requires more work. In each upper log, a semicircular depression is cut. Then the upper log is placed on the lower one. In both the first and second cases, additional fixation with screws, dowels or reinforcement will be required.

  1. Give the base parts a neat butt shape. To do this, cut the edges of the lower and upper logs 45 degrees. Continue this curve down the trunks towards the center, making the intermediate pieces shorter. The shortest is the central log.
  2. Be sure to grind sharp edges with a grinder - you need to make the elements of the future table safe.
  3. Proceed to preparing the holes for the reinforcement. In the log that will be located at the bottom, it is enough to drill only half the thickness. In each log located inside, several through holes must be made at a distance of 30-40 cm. In the joining logs, the holes must coincide, and the drilling angle must be 90 degrees. You need to do the work with a drill, the diameter of which is the same as that of the reinforcement you are using.
  4. Using a planer, we correct irregularities, rough places. Sand the surface of the parts thoroughly with sandpaper. Start with a coarse grit, such as a four, then use a finer grit.

Assembling the base of the table from logs

  1. Reinforcement and glue will help to make the assembly of the structure reliable and durable. Insert metal parts into the joining logs. The rods must fit exactly into the holes. If they look slightly, cut off the same amount at the end metal mount... Disassemble the structure for the final connection.
  2. Fill the ¼ of the lower hole with glue, then insert the reinforcement, put the next log on top of the drawing (we advise you to number all the logs in the drawing accordingly).
  3. On top logs (the rods are in them), fill the holes with glue to the very edges.

Leave the resulting construction. The glue should dry.

Assembly and installation of countertops

As an option for the countertop, you can use a chipboard sheet of the size and shape you need. It will need to be attached with screws to the upper logs. This method is suitable for tables with a surface area of \u200b\u200bless than 100 cm. It significantly reduces wasted time and simplifies the work process. But such a table will look much simpler, and you shouldn't put something heavy on it.

If the countertop area is larger than square meter, it can be made from a chipboard sheet. But in this case, install the material on a base made of additional beams (always even). They are used as an auxiliary material and do not need to be processed. The bars are nailed to the upper logs with large nails or self-tapping screws. Moreover, the number of beams depends on the size of the countertop. Chipboard, in turn, is attached to this frame.

The organization of a tabletop from thick, neat beams is more expensive, but it can make the table look natural and respectable. In addition, these boards will add additional reinforcement to a massive log base. The beams for the countertop must be dry and level. Additional processing should be done after installation.

  1. Adjust the size and shape of the boards to match the desired countertop. The thickness of the material must be at least 20 mm. The width can be arbitrary. Perform the work using a planer and sandpaper or a sander.
  1. Attach the tabletop parts to the legs at the contact points using glue and large self-tapping screws.

The table is ready. The last step is final processing.

  1. Remove sharp and protruding parts with a file or grinder. Smooth the surface of the countertop, sand.
  2. After removing the shavings and wood dust, cover the table with wood stain or another compound that can enhance the protective properties of the wood.
  3. After drying, polish the surface again, and proceed to varnish the table. One coat of varnish will be sufficient.

It is popular to make tabletops of such tables from logs sawn in half. The difficulty of this option lies in the fact that cutting large trunks clearly in half is not an easy task. This is exactly the case when contacting a specialist is the most reasonable decision. After cutting, a cut is made on the round part of the logs or a “bowl” joint is applied. Additionally, the tabletop is fixed to the legs with self-tapping screws and glue. Next, a finishing script similar to the previous one is used.

New table will become a favorite gathering place for the family and will unite you for many years. And also ... having received such useful skills, now you will be able to make benches out of logs.

Benches, tables, couches and other furniture made of logs look much more appropriate near a summer cottage or a suburban house than the same plastic counterparts. This is an environmentally friendly material that emphasizes the originality of the design and the good taste of the owners. In addition, you can even create them yourself, finding a kind of outlet in such a useful hobby.

A log is an environmentally friendly material, so it makes excellent furniture for a summer residence.

Various log furniture

To create such furniture, you do not have to immediately buy the material. Sometimes it is enough to look around and select drying trees on the site, which you will not be able to rejuvenate by cutting branches and feeding. When we cut them down, we get a mass of wood that can be used to create, for example, a bench from logs.

For this, a base is selected, which will be processed. Having outlined the places of the cut with an electric saw, we saw the log in half and from both parts we construct a back and a seat. For their fastening, strong branches peeled from bark are used, in which holes are drilled with a drill and a steel rod is inserted.

So that the metal does not move freely in the resulting space and the bench does not loosen, the most ordinary PVA glue is used to work with wood. It must be poured into the recess and the rod inserted there, allowing the structure to dry so. In order for the bench to serve longer, all parts must be thoroughly sanded before assembly, to get rid of all damage, and to fill cracks and cavities with a special grout.

If the owner does not have steel rods at his disposal, and it is difficult to buy them, you can also use ordinary nails by removing their caps. Required condition when creating furniture: processing of all parts with impregnation, which subsequently excludes rotting, the formation of mold, the settlement of colonies of bugs. After assembly, when the furniture is already firmly installed, the surfaces are covered with layers of varnish, which will give a well-groomed look and protect from bad weather.

The back, which the bench is equipped with, can also be decorated using not boards to connect, but 2-3 forged fancifully curved rods, which are not so difficult or expensive to buy. The additions from the vine, with which it is very easy to work, will look no less impressive. It is durable and can be used to create a high back or armrests if the log is not large enough.

If the owner has coniferous logs at his disposal, he needs to take care to get rid of the resin, which, especially on hot days, will actively stand out, staining clothes.

Several formulations are used to neutralize resins:

  • acetone and water in a ratio of 4 to 1;
  • a solution of acetone and caustic soda in a ratio of 20 to 4;
  • potash and soda ash in a ratio of 5 to 6.

The mixture is carefully rubbed into the bark-free wood several times and washed off. After that, the material is dried naturally or with a building hair dryer.

Unique log tables

For a set for benches from logs, tables are also created, which can be simple or more complex, depending on the amount of material, free time and the skill of the owner. The most straightforward option for decorating a garden is a wide chump leg cut to the desired height. Since the lower part of the table will be very tightly in contact with the ground, improvised coasters are created from wood, pieces of plastic.

Such furniture can be created in a few hours, if you first take care of sanding and impregnation. It is important that all cuts are made evenly, without distortions - this way the table will stand very firmly. For many, the problem is not the construction of the table itself, but how to choose the countertop.

After all, she needs a saw cut of a sufficiently large diameter. And then you can fantasize using a large piece of durable glass, the back of the old cut to the specified dimensions wooden bed, a wooden wheel covered with glass.

If there are enough logs, but they small size, a table made of logs with your own hands is constructed according to the principle log house... For the table top, several pieces are cut in half, which are fixed with transverse strips. Also benches for them are being built, resembling more original chairs than ordinary garden furniture.

You can decorate the space, complementing the ensemble, with logs installed next to it.

Before making out of logs lovely table for giving, you will need to first complete a drawing, which will indicate the dimensions and details of the table.

Long logs are placed horizontally, and short ones (30-40 cm long) - vertically. In the middle, you can hollow holes in the size of flower pots, round or elongated. It is important to plant flowers in a flowerpot, since simply poured clay and systematic watering of plants will lead to wood decay. To not work too long hand tool, on initial stages it is appropriate to use a power saw and then only a chisel or other tools.

An oblong table with log legs is even easier to create. But before that you need to make a drawing indicating the dimensions of the parts. As crossbars that give stability to the table, you can nail not just wooden planks, but peeled processed curly tree branches. With such lacquered furniture the garden will become very cozy and even unique. A similar table and benches are installed not only under trees, but also in gazebos and on open terraces.

On sunny days in the fresh air

With imagination and desire, you can create beautiful things on your own that make your family vacation even more enjoyable. In addition to a bench and a table, you can build a solid swing and even a hammock. As blanks for the swing, you need to choose 6 pieces of strong logs, the height of which exceeds 2.5 meters. The radius of the logs should be at least 5-6 centimeters. The structure must support the weight of adults who will definitely try to swing.

For supports, three pieces of logs are used on both sides, arranged in a triangle, the upper part of which is fixed with self-tapping screws. The length of the vertical beam and crossbeams is determined by the width of the bench, which, depending on the idea. can accommodate 1-3 people.

In order not to violate the single composition, but also not to make the structure too heavy, several carefully ground cuts are used for the back and seat, connected in the same way as a regular bench. In conclusion, it remains only to decide on what the bench will be hung: on a metal chain or on a strong thick rope.

Garden furniture can be supplemented with an original hammock, which will require:

  • 2 small logs 1.2 m long and 3-5 cm radius;
  • a piece of durable fabric 1.5 m by 2.5 m;
  • strong rope or colored laundry cord;
  • round steel rivets.

First of all, wood is processed, which is carefully sanded. Multiple through holes are drilled in it at a distance of 2.5 cm. Then it must be treated with an antiseptic, varnished and left to dry completely. Next, work begins with the material, which, with the correct measurements, does not need to be sheathed sewing machine... It is enough to wrap the edges three times and often fill in steel rivets, which is original and fast enough. A rope is pulled through the transverse holes and a drilled dry crossbar, from the free ends of which very strong loops are created on both sides of the hammock. You can diversify the design by creating a kind of fringe from the remnants of a rope tied in a knot in free holes with rivets on the sides.

A beautiful and very practical hammock can be hung from the beams of a gazebo, between trees, or to pegs made of logs buried in the ground for stability. In this case, a part of the logs, buried in the ground to the maximum depth, is protected from possible rotting with resin or several layers of roofing material. A small stand for a flowerpot, also created from a cut of a log, will help to complement the decoration.

Since this is furniture made from waste, then, for obvious reasons, the most painstaking work is the process of selecting a material that will need to be combined not only in size, but also in color and surface texture. Also, in the process of assembling log furniture with your own hands, quite a lot of time is spent on performing operations to connect parts ( structural elements). You will learn more about the production process further on the example of making the back of a homemade bed from logs.

§ How wood is selected. An important point!

Trees exist wherever a person lives, unless it is, of course, a desert or steppe. There will always be some plant care companies, energy companies, farms, construction sites where areas for plantings are cleared, and, of course, landfills. Also, do not forget about the forest nailed to the shore. In order for the furniture made of logs to be of high quality and durable, you should carefully choose the wood. Do not take timber with traces of wood-boring damage; all the bark should be peeled off on the spot, since various insects can live in it, the appearance of which in the workshop is undesirable.

After selection of the base material, production of structural particles, e.g. backrests log bed takes only a couple of hours. First, you need to cut out the racks, horizontal straps, as well as the balusters of the bed backs. After that, with a metal brush, you need to remove all the dirt, as well as roughness from the surface of the workpieces. Then the balusters and straps are equipped with spikes cut out on special equipment. The electric planer should be fixed on the loop so that it hangs over the part itself. The part is clamped on the bed lathe... The length of the studs of the harness should be 5 cm, and the studs of the balusters should be 4 cm.

After that, with a two-handed electric drill with a Forstner drill, you need to drill the nests for the spikes in the legs and straps. The peculiarity of this operation is that, unlike bars and boards, which have certain standard sizes, all logs are different and the nests in them must be selected one at a time, carefully fitting them to the mating parts each time.

Final assembly of the product. Dry assembly, gluing furniture made of logsas well as the installation of the clamps are similar to conventional carpentry operations. There is one caveat, though. After coating the nests with catalyzed gap-filling glue (mainly casein glue with cross-linked intermolecular bonds) and assembling the structure, they take the backrest by the horizontal straps and hit the back with a leg against the floor. Only after this operation can we assume that the thorns are firmly seated and take hold of the clamps.

Special attention needs to be paid finishing log furniture. The wood is sanded with an abrasive of 80 microns, cedar from time to time passes with an abrasive of 120 microns, and maple butcher blocks, as well as sawn beams from recyclable materials, get 220 micrometer emery. The wood is not stained and thus retains its natural warmth and reliability. For even greater furniture durability from waste, the logs are covered with several (mainly two) layers of polyurethane. A couple of layers of teak oil are applied to an armchair and tables made of sawn beams, as well as maple butcher blocks, with an intermediate grinding of each of the layers, wax (paraffin) "Briwoks" and then rubbed with a leather wheel to a perfect shine.

There are enough firms and individual craftsmen on the market who are engaged in the manufacture of such furniture. It is environmentally friendly, practical and very beautiful, looks great in any interior. It can be bought from a ready-made sample or ordered according to your own preference. Approximate prices: chairs and armchairs made of logs - from $ 100, cabinets and dressers - from $ 110, log beds - from $ 280, tables with benches - from $ 220. The cost depends on the type of wood used, its quality, the amount of consumable materials, the amount of work and the complexity of the structure. Therefore, the price can vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

In addition to furniture, you can also make a house from waste with your own hands. The tendency to maximize the use of wood waste is especially relevant in our time. After all, this applies to natural materials and natural resources that are reproduced for a long time.
