The door blocks consist of two parts - a leaf and a frame. Most of the produced door blocks have standard door leaf sizes from 60 to 90 cm. The dimensions of the door frames, regardless of the dimensions of the door leaf, exceed its dimensions by a certain amount. But this figure is not a standard for all models of door frames and may differ to a lesser extent in lighter door frames.

How to measure thickness?

First of all, we will define the terms and agree on what exactly is meant by the thickness of the door frame. Since this size is often confused with the depth of the box, we immediately clarify: take a look at the image below. The thickness of the door frame is the distance equal to the difference between the width of the door frame and the width of the door leaf divided in two. The depth on the diagram is labeled as "The size of the wall thickness in the opening" and is 5-7 cm. The minimum depth for standard door frames is 65 mm. The rest of the size options are already non-standard dimensions and to order, check their availability at the place of purchase.

Having decided on the concept of thickness, we will calculate it for standard door blocks. For generally recognized manufacturers in classic door models, the dimensions of the door frame more sizes canvases by 70 mm both in width and in height, if the box is with a threshold. So, for example, for a door leaf 800 mm wide, the frame width will be 870 mm. From these dimensions it is easy to find out what the standard thickness of the door frame is. interior doors... To do this, we will use the formula:

 • Tk = (Shk - Shp) / 2

Where Tk is the thickness of the door frame, Shk is the width of the box, Shp is the width of the door leaf

For the example of a door leaf with a width of 800 mm, the calculation will look like this:

 • Tk = (870 mm - 800 mm) / 2 = 35 mm

The resulting value will be standard thickness of the door frame of interior doors,she equal to 35 mm.

There are also lightweight door frames that differ from standard sizes. The thickness of such a box will be less than 35 mm and before buying, check with the seller which door you are buying. Recently, door manufacturers have begun to produce more lightweight boxes and there is a possibility that when buying, you can accidentally choose just such a model. The thickness of the timber (or MDF) used for lightweight boxes is 25 mm.

Types of door frames on video

Why else do you need to know the thickness of the box?

It is no coincidence that the thickness of the door frame is 3.5 cm. As we already wrote, the dimensions doorway also calculated depending on the dimensions of the door leaf and in standard interior openings they are 10 cm wider than the width of the canvas. Thus, we get the distance from the leaf to the doorway equal to 5 cm.There is just 3.5 cm of the thickness of the box and 1.5 cm of the gap for fixing the door frame in the wall using polyurethane foam.

Installation door block (canvas + box) occurs not only on polyurethane foam. Although each method involves its use, the technologies differ in the type of additional fasteners used during installation. Most often, simple wooden spacers or pegs are used, which are inserted into the space between the box and the opening. With their help, the block in the opening is aligned according to the level: each peg is driven tightly so that the door frame does not deform, but the entire block is tightly held in the opening. When it is firmly fixed with spacers, using a special gun, polyurethane foam is applied to the voids. It is also important to install horizontal spacers inside the box so that the foam does not deform the box when it expands.

Thus, we found out that the standard thickness of the door frame of the interior door is 3.5 cm. It is also important to remember that in last years manufacturers are increasingly releasing non-standard boxes. They are also called lightweight and are used in cases where there is a need to install a wider canvas in a small doorway.

Replacing doors during the event is a very responsible business. It is important not just to pick it up, it must fit into the opening. Sizing is often impossible without breaking the structure of the coating. The risk in this case is very expensive. Therefore, when choosing, you need to take into account not only the design, but also the standard dimensions of interior doors, typical marking, opening methods, and prepare as much as possible before going to the shopping center.

The purpose of the interior products differs from those designed to protect the home from the penetration of strangers. First of all, they should be highly functional and provide comfort in the premises. Requirements for different rooms, differ, but you can still distinguish the main criteria:

 • Protection of the premises from unwanted visits. For example, you need to create confidence that no one will accidentally interfere during the adoption of procedures. In addition, protection is needed from increased noise, light, odors from the kitchen or drafts;
 • division of space - it is necessary to differentiate the premises into separate zones and organize the area according to its purpose;
 • - the canvases must comply general design premises.

Structures can be glazed or sheathed tightly. By the way of opening - cassette. The main selection criterion is that the canvases must completely cover the entrance.

Dimensions of interior doors according to GOST

The state standard approved the dimensions of the interior structures. In this case, it is necessary to take into account several parameters at the same time: length, width and thickness doorways... All manufacturers adhere to certain standards. If necessary, it is possible to manufacture structures according to individual measurements, but it will not be cheap for the customer.

Here are the main standard dimensions of interior doors with a frame for a door leaf thickness of 44 mm:

Blade dimensions, mm Opening dimensions, mm
Width Height Width Height
Single leaf models
550 2000 2100 2200 630/650 2060/2090 2160/2190 2260/2290
600 680/700
700 780/800
800 880/900
900 980/1000
Double-leaf models

1400 (600/800) 1480/1500
1500 (600/900) 1580/1600

You should know this! Standard parameters allow you to select and install the structure as accurately as possible. However, its functionality will not be impaired.

How to correctly measure the opening

If it is not possible to invite a measurer, you need to measure all dimensions yourself. To do this, you need a tape measure, a pencil and a piece of paper.

 • Measurement of the width must be performed at the top and bottom at a distance of 20 centimeters from the upper and lower borders and in the middle;
 • the height is measured in two places: from the floor surface to the upper boundary. If there is a sill, it should be taken into account when taking measurements;
 • measuring the thickness of the door frame of the interior door. Moreover, if it is more than 100 mm, it will be necessary to additionally install additional elements in the form of slopes.

The gap between the box and the wall must be 15 mm. After installing the structure, it is filled with polyurethane foam.

If you plan to install non-standard structures, for example, in the form of an arch, you must contact the professionals. It is quite difficult to make such measurements correctly. You can draw a project on paper and give it to manufacturers.

Calculation of the proportionality of the box to the opening

If you do not have a table of proportions at hand, you can independently calculate the necessary parameters. To do this, the width of the box and the thickness of the mounting gap on both sides must be added to the width of the canvas.

 • The standard width of the door frame is 25 mm;
 • the recommended gap on each side is 15 mm.

Let's calculate the parameters of the opening width for a sash with a width of 550 mm:

550 + 25 × 2 + 15 × 2 = 630 mm.

To calculate the size of the opening for interior doors in height, you need to take into account:

 • the distance from the floor surface to the sash is 10 mm;
 • the thickness of the box is 25 mm;
 • gap 15 mm.

Height parameters without a sill will be calculated as follows:

2000 + 25 + 15 + 1 = 2031 mm.

To install a box with a threshold, instead of an indentation to the floor surface, you need to add the height of the threshold, and take into account the way it is fastened: with foam or screws.

Building dimensions do not always fit into these formulas. In case of discrepancies, you can use the following tips:

 • if a few millimeters of the width of the opening are missing, you need to slightly expand it manually;
 • if the box is much narrower than recommended by building codes, you should select the appropriate dimensions for interior doors, they will close the free wall;
 • if the product is installed in a load-bearing wall, its thickness may exceed the thickness of the box. For such a case, slopes are installed.

If none of the proposed options is suitable, the block should be made according to individual order.

Corridor Item Definitions

When choosing a product for a room, you need to take into account the dimensions of the openings. They must differ from the parameters of the flaps. You cannot rely on standards, you must measure yourself.

The standard height of doorways in the corridor is 2.01 ÷ 2.05 m.The width can vary from 1.28 ÷ 1.6 m.

In order to select a product according to such parameters, you can stop at a double-leaf structure with the same canvases of 60 cm each, or different widths of 0.6 + 0.8 or 0.6 + 0.9 m.The total width allows you to install them in the opening 1 , 6 m.

Product marking

There is a marking of products in accordance with GOST, in practice manufacturers make their own adjustments and designations. Let's first consider the generally accepted norms.

The height and width of the structure are indicated in decimetres.

You can find individual manufacturer's markings with other designations for the dimensions of interior double-leaf doors, indicating the material of manufacture and the name of the product. Dimensions can be indicated in centimeters.

Standard dimensions of hinged interior doors with a frame

Swing structures are installed in wide openings. Most often - in the living room. They attract attention and become the centerpiece and decoration of the room. It is important to correctly determine the size of interior doors with a box, since mistakes will immediately catch the eye.

Canvas dimensions

In apartments of buildings of the last century, they most often used swing doors with a sash width of 65 cm and a construction height of 230 cm. Currently, manufacturers have expanded the production of models and offer door frames of the following parameters.

Height, cm Sash parameters, cm
200 60 + 60 = 120
40 + 70 = 110
40 + 80 = 120
40 + 90 = 130
50 + 70 = 120
55 + 80 = 135
60 + 90 = 150

Door frame dimensions

Swing door frames are made of U-shaped design without sills. This is enough to fully fix the product around the perimeter. As in conventional models, when calculating the parameters, it is necessary to leave a gap between the box and the opening.

In the manufacture of the door frame is used different material... The width can be between 15-40 mm, optimal size it is considered to be a width of 30-35 mm.

Dimensions of doorways

Manufacturers often indicate the standard dimensions of doorways along with the product labeling.

You can determine the width using the formula:

double leaf width + double frame width + double gap

The frame width is generally 30 mm, leaving 15 mm on each side for the gap width.

To determine the height without a threshold, the distance from the floor surface to the canvas should be taken into account about 5 ÷ 20 mm:

sash height + frame width + gap + height from the floor surface

When installing the sill, the height calculation is the same as the width.

Blade thickness

This is the third characteristic of interior designs. The strength of the entire structure and sound insulation depend on it. The standard thickness of the canvases is 40 mm. Manufacturers also offer thinner canvases of 20, 30, 36, 38 mm.

Products with a parameter of 50 mm can be made by individual order.

Interior doors of non-standard sizes

Free layouts of apartments and the construction of private houses imply a non-standard approach to the design of premises. Often used for constructions from. For such planning, the standard parameters of door products may not be suitable.

On an individual order, you can make not only canvases of non-standard parameters, but also of an unusual design. It is important to take into account the thickness of the material, since drywall is limited in the perceived loads.

If you plan to manufacture a canvas of a non-standard size, it is important to take into account some features and limitations.

 • Reducing the height of the product is not recommended. Increased heights can be installed in rooms with high ceilings;
 • when changing the width, it is important to take into account the uniformity of the load distribution. If the opening is more than 2 meters, additional support elements should be installed in the middle of the structure.

As a non-standard technique, you can change the width of one sash to a third or half of the standard width. This model is usually called one and a half.

This is important to know! Manufacturing custom-made structures will increase the cost by 30 ÷ 40%.

Standard sizes of interior doors: main types and assortment

The modern market is filled with a variety of products. You can pick up quite budget models or elite exclusive samples in different colors and design. When choosing, you should take into account the basic design of the room.

The main materials for the manufacture of products:

Photo Material

Glass

Wood

, or MDF

Pvc

Classification of models by opening method

Manufacturers offer samples with a hidden box. To install such structures, certain requirements must be met:

 • wall thickness should not exceed 80 mm;
 • the parameters of the opening must comply with the manufacturer's recommendations, the vertical deviation is no more than 1 millimeter.

You can pick up designs with a non-standard opening method. They save space and are also attractive appearance will be bright accent in the design.

 • Swing models with the classical way of opening, they can be left- and right-handed, while the hinges are mounted on the opposite side.

 • Sliding - significantly save space. They have one or two canvases moving along the floor surface along special guides.

 • Harmonic - several canvases are folded in the form of an accordion; wide openings are needed to install them.

 • Swinging made of 1 ÷ 2 canvases, the mechanism allows you to open the canvases both inside and outside the room.

Conclusion

Interior doors complete the interior design. A high-quality installation depends primarily on correctly performed measurements and calculations. When choosing a product, you need to take into account many parameters: material, weight and dimensions of the structure. Manufacturers offer a wide range of models that fit into both conventional and non-standard openings. Optionally, you can execute individual design designs.

You can watch the features of sizing in the video.

On the market today building materials interior doors are offered in a very large assortment. Door frames are made of wood, stone, steel, and in some cases are brickwork... Most of the models are manufactured to specific standards. But it should be remembered that there are no strictly established dimensions of door frames for interior doors. Therefore, you need to choose a model in accordance with the dimensions of a particular doorway.

Standard sizes of door frames for interior doors

When choosing interior doors for your home or office, you should consider not only their functional, decorative and design features... It is very important to define precisely suitable size door frames, standard for correct installation in the opening, without any difficulties and additional financial costs.

All doors, as a rule, come complete with a door frame, which is a very important installation element. It is a construction similar to the letter "P". Size of door frames in different models is different. They are installed along the perimeter of the opening and serve to fix the canvas on the hinges.

The size of the door frames of the interior doors should be such that the structure allows the structure to fit harmoniously into the opening. The width of the box is a very important parameter; as a rule, it is 25-35 millimeters.

Thus, the door structure is matched to the size of the opening. For proper installation, it is recommended that the height and width of the kit be slightly less than the opening (approximately 3 cm).

The size of door frames does not have clear standards, but a conditional range can be distinguished:

 • width is from 500 to 900 mm;
 • the height ranges from 1950 to 2070 mm.

Interior doors

The standard door width, as a rule, depends on the purpose of this room and its size. Most often, the most popular door kit is installed in the opening between the living rooms, having a standard size of 880x2050 mm. The width of the door leaf is 800 mm. Very often just such models are used in offices.

For living room

The exception is the doors to the living room, which are considered a kind of hallmark of the room. In apartments with a modern layout, for the installation of interior doors, wide openings of 1220 mm are used, in which stylish double-leaf doors are usually installed, the dimensions of which are 1190x1935 mm. In this case, the width of each leaf is 550 mm. IN small apartments doors are most often single-leaf, their width is 800-900 mm. It is not advisable to install less, since furniture should freely pass through the opening.

Kitchen

Canvases with certain parameters are installed in the opening in the kitchen. In this case, the size of the door frames is standard and is:

Before installing the door, you should calculate whether it will be possible to bring necessary furniture... If it turns out that the standard model is narrow, then it will need to be abandoned. We'll have to expand the opening to install an oversized door.

For bathroom

Many people think that the dimensions of the doors to the bathroom do not have of particular importance... But this is a rather erroneous opinion. There are also many nuances here that are important to consider. Of course, if this business is engaged qualified specialist, you don't need to delve into the essence of the process. But when you decide to cope with the installation on your own, first you should familiarize yourself with the following information: bathrooms have the narrowest doorway.

Sizes of door frames for bathroom:

The most popular is the door set, the width of which is 550 mm. It should be noted that such doors are made by almost all manufacturers. In the modern layout of apartments, wide openings are often provided in the bathrooms. Even so, homeowners prefer to install door leaves narrow, using special additional elements during work.

Maximum dimensions

Maximum standard width doors - 900 mm. However, not all manufacturers produce models in this range. And this is due, first of all, to the fact that in multi-storey buildings, when planning modern apartments, such openings are quite rare. The design of the door set looks aesthetically rather cumbersome and does not match the interior of the room. Most often, interior doors, whose width is 900 mm, are used:

Today, doors made of MDF have become very popular. These models are characterized by rather low mechanical characteristics, so the junction of the box with the wall should be strengthened with special wooden plates.

It must be remembered that interior doors from foreign manufacturers are made according to completely different standards. In this regard, before purchasing them, you should very accurately and carefully measure the main dimensions of the doorway.

Interior doors are constantly in sight. Therefore, they should not only very harmoniously fit into the interior, but also be properly installed. Only in this case, the door set can give the room a complete and stylish look.

Wooden door frames

Traditional wooden doors have not lost their relevance over the years. They continue to rank in modern market attributes for the home. Besides, wooden structures with box are becoming more and more popular due to the huge variety design solutions, among which you can find your suitable and unrivaled option. Each product from an array of valuable species has a certain set of advantages and unique properties.

Advantages and disadvantages of wooden door structures

The main advantage of all wooden door structures is their environmental safety, which is very important for those houses where little children live. Besides, essential oilsfound in conifers and many other types of wood, have unique healing qualities, create an extremely beneficial microclimate in the room. And yet, wooden door frames have a pleasant surface texture, an excellent level of heat and sound insulation, are durable and do not need special care during operation.

The only drawback of such structures is that they require coating with a waterproof protective compound.

The main characteristics and size of wood door frames mainly depend on the material used. The maximum accuracy of compliance with all the parameters presented is the guarantor of a quick and high-quality installation of the entire unit.

Most often for door structure use boards or bars, the thickness of which is 50-60 cm, and the width is 100 mm. But the most the best option - when the thickness of the timber ideally matches the thickness of the wall. Wooden door frames, the dimensions of which do not have standards, must be selected carefully and according to certain rules. The structure should be 30 mm less than the opening both in height and in width.

Standard sizes interior doors need to know for the correct installation of the door in the opening. So far, no general guidelines have been established for manufacturers to comply with them. But there are building standards on the basis of which openings are made. The characteristics of the door will be determined from such indicators.

Door marking

With product labeling, everything is quite complicated. Of course, there are specific standardized guidelines for notation, but in some cases the general standards may change due to the abundance of manufacturers. It often happens that designs made according to identical techniques and outwardly similar structures can be named and labeled differently.

The dimensions of the door directly depend on the dimensions of the opening

First, let's deal with the GOST 6629-88 standard, which applies to the manufacture of wooden interior doors for residential and public facilities. Based on the standard, the following labeling is applied to products:

 1. Product type: P - panel, D - prefabricated;
 2. Panel type: O - glazed, U - reinforced with continuous filling, K - swinging with glass;
 3. Width of the door structure with a frame (dm). Additionally, the following symbols are indicated: P - product with a sill, N - overlaid, L - left-sided;
 4. Height (dm);
 5. The name of the state standard.

In addition to compliance with GOSTs, official model names, factory unique codes can be used.

Structures are classified according to several criteria:

 • By placement in the facility - there are internal (interroom) and external (entrance);
 • By material, products are distinguished from metal, wood, glass and combined options;
 • According to the filling of the blank panel, there are glazed and blank systems;
 • According to the number of panels, one-, one and a half and two-field options are distinguished.

Standard dimensions of hinged interior doors

Considering the dimensions interior doors with a box, you should consider the height, width and weight of the parts. First, the opening is examined into which the box with the canvas will be inserted. Therefore, the initial characteristics are slightly increased. To adjust the basic dimensions, you can use blocks, bricks or sheets of drywall.

Canvas dimensions

If you do not use non-standard approaches, where the dimensions of the opening for interior doors are tied to individual wishes, then the bulk of manufacturers is based on the indicators of the standard. The ratios of the indicators of the opening and door systems (panels and boxes) based on SNiP are shown in the table:

Panel indicators, cmOpening characteristics, cm
Width heightwidthheight
1 60*200 68-71 205-207
2 70*200 78-81 205-207
3 80*200 88-91 205-207
4 90*200 98-101 205-207
5 60*190 68-71 195-197
6 55*190 63-66 195-197
7 60+60*200 128-131 205-207

According to the DIN standard, the ratio will be as follows:

Door parameters, cmOpening characteristics, cm
Width heightwidthheight
1 60*200 70-74 206-208
2 70*200 80-84 206-208
3 80*200 90-94 206-208
4 90*200 100-104 206-208
5 60+60*200 134-140 206-208

If we consider the parameters of any sliding and swing door, each person provides for the width that he will use every day. But the state standard offers a door width of 70 cm for kitchens, 60 cm for bathrooms and 80 cm for residential buildings.On the market, they offer designs for a bedroom with a width of 90 cm, and for bathrooms - 55 cm.

Figure: 2. Characteristics of the canvas for rooms

It is worth mentioning the double-leaf structures that allow you to emphasize the status of any room. Basically, they consist of the same type (60 cm each) or different canvases (60 and 80 cm wide). Of the narrowed options, manufacturers offer designs with sash widths of 40 and 80 or 40 and 40 centimeters.

The more common width of the canvases is 35 - 40 cm, but the indicator can change up or down (based on the material used and the type of product). For example, the thickness of a sliding sash can be 2 cm, and wooden canvases can reach up to 50 cm.

In terms of height, manufacturers offer products of 190 and 200 cm, but there are also European standards - 210 cm. To order, customers can purchase products of a higher height (up to the ceiling or 2.3 m). Designers often adhere to foreign standards.

Figure: 3. Main characteristics of doors

Box dimensions

There are ready-made options for sale (with a box and fittings). This is a U-shaped structure, which is placed along the perimeter of the opening. The system allows you to securely fix the panel.

The total height and width of the web with the box increases by 10-15 cm, but a gap should be left between the wall and the mounting strip, so the parameters of the web should be less than the characteristics of the frame (to protect against abrasion). The thickness of the panel is compared with the size of the wall and the box. Correctly mounted doors will be comfortable, look organic in the room, and meet the applicable standards.

Based on the characteristics of the panel, for interior structures, the indicators of the standard dimensions of the door frame of the interior door may differ. Therefore, it is advisable to purchase the designs together with cashing, frame and fittings.

Bars of different parameters are used for the manufacture of the box. The width of the material can reach 1.5-4.0 cm, but the optimal indicator is 3.0-3.5 cm. If the standards are observed, it turns out robust designthat serves for a long time.

Figure: 4. Dimensions of the door frame

The thickness of the box and the wall should be the same, but this indicator should not exceed the width of the opening. For wooden walls the criterion is 10 cm, and for a brick - 7.5 cm. Therefore, a box whose dimensions exceed the parameters of the wall cannot be firmly fixed. Otherwise, special extensions can be used.

When manually assembling the box, it is necessary to determine the parameters of the vertical racks in accordance with the height of the panel, the thickness of the horizontal strip, the size of the gap and the threshold. The horizontal bar parameters are calculated according to the door width.

Sizes of openings

When creating partitions and walls, you can determine the width of the opening according to the standard, which indicates the parameters of products with a frame and fittings. In this case, the width of the panel is folded with a double frame indicator and a double-sided gap. As a rule, it is equal to 1.5 cm.For example, 90.0 + 3.0 * 2 + 1.5 * 2 = 99.0 cm.

The height of the opening is also calculated: without a sill, it will be equal to 200 + 3 + 1.5 + 0.5 = 205 (0.5 is the distance between the panel and the floor for air exchange, it can increase up to 1 cm, and for a house with liquefied gas - up to 1.5-2 cm). In the presence of a threshold, the height of the opening is determined by adding the size of the opening and the parameters of the canvas, the width of the assembly seam and the box.

Figure: 5. Measurement of openings

The thicker the canvas, the better?

Thick canvases well emphasize the design of the living room, made in the Baroque, Renaissance or Empire style, and sliding partitions and thin screens will complement the openings of dressing rooms and storage rooms. With an increase in door thickness, its weight increases, which increases the requirements for hinged fittings. It may be necessary to install additional hinges, which will increase the cost of the structure... Therefore, the canvas should be selected for its massiveness and other characteristics, according to expediency, optimality.

There are many products on the market with a leaf thickness of 30-40 cm. But there are thinner ones in the assortment. sliding partitions from MDF (about 2 cm). Recently, designs made of tempered glass with a thickness of 8 mm or more have become popular.

One-and-a-half and double-leaf doors

Double swing doors with two leaves will look effective in design. The width of the products depends on the model and parameters of the living room passage. Parameters for such doors are sometimes accepted with an increase of 1.5-2.

Standard dimensions for double systems with a box are 120-150 cm. This allows the installation of full-fledged double-leaf structures. The width of double-leaf doors is 1-1.4 m.

At minimum dimensions, double doors can be offered with one fixed leaf width of ½ or 1/3 of the standard width (eg one and a half versions). Another part of the canvas will be complete. With the optimal opening width, the same sashes are placed, which increases aesthetics and people passability.

Doors with a hidden frame

Compared to standard designs, doors with an inner frame have great advantages.

Fig. 6. Door scheme with a hidden box

The dimensions of the opening must comply with the standards of the manufacturer of door systems: there must be an even wall vertically, a deviation of 1 mm is allowed in height, and the wall thickness must not be more than 8 cm... The ideal gap width is 1.7-2 cm ± 1 cm (the gap in the lower part of the web 4 is considered optimal).

Doors to order

The factories offer a wide range of interior doors with a frame and fittings, including non-standard options... But there are cases of inconsistency of the manufactured products with the existing opening. At the same time, you can adjust by increasing or reducing the height and width to the required value. An alternative solution is to order a design with non-standard dimensions.

The cost of manufacturing custom-made doors will be higher compared to purchasing finished products. But this will allow you to implement interesting ideas. For example, you can put compartment doors.

How to measure the opening

If the door has a sill, the length of the opening can be calculated by summing the height of the threshold with the parameters of the panel, frame and assembly seam.

Figure: 7. Measuring the width of the opening Fig. 8. Determination of indicators with and without a nut

According to the standards, it is not difficult to know the width of the panel. For a 90-centimeter opening, a canvas 80 cm wide is suitable.This can be calculated as follows: 90-15 * 2-30 * 2 = 81 cm, and the extra centimeters will be masked by platbands.

When determining the dimensions, it is better to take into account the gap that will remain between the panel and the box. But this indicator is equal to 1-2 millimeters, so it can be ignored in approximate calculations.

If you do not want to overpay 20-50 percent for non-standard interior doors, then you need to decide in advance on the doorway.

You need to start from the doors you like, the variety of which can satisfy even the most fastidious taste. Basically, doors are produced in standard sizes: 2 meters high and 60, 70, and 80 cm wide.

Less common is the standard with a width of 40, 55 and 90 cm and a height of 1.9 meters. The thickness of the door frames can vary in the range of 1.5-4 cm.

Table of standard sizes of openings

Depending on the room, a typical door size can be applied.

This is usually put:

 • in the bathroom and toilet, the opening height is usually from 1.9 to 2 meters, the width is 55-60 cm, the depth is 5-7 cm.
 • in the kitchen, height 2 meters, width 70 cm, depth 7 cm.
 • in a bedroom or living room, the height of the doorway will be 2 meters, width 80 cm and depth from 7 cm to 20 cm.
 • if the door to the bedroom is double-leafed, then only the width will change: it will be either 2 * 60 cm, or 40 + 80 cm.

After plastering and leveling the walls, the depth of the doorway will increase accordingly.

It is very difficult to overestimate these dimensions of doorways. After all, if you did not take them into account in your calculations, then you may encounter a problem when your door frame does not fit into the opening. And after all, not every opening can be increased, sometimes it is impossible, due to the peculiarities of the layout or the construction of the wall. If it is a load-bearing wall, then you will also face a number of difficulties.

Even a simple drywall wall is not easy to reduce, due to the transfer metal profiles... In this case, you will have to pay extra for non-standard dimensions of the interior door.

The opposite situation also happens when the doorway is much larger than the door. Here you will also overpay to specialists when installing the door, for narrowing the opening.

An unpleasant situation may arise when, as a result of a decrease, the platband will not be able to close the hole in doorway... In this case, you will need to close up uncovered sections of the wall, glue wallpaper or lay down tiles. It is good if the room has not yet been glued, but if it was glued, then you will have to re-glue everything.

Therefore, even at the project stage, you need to decide on the size of the doorways, then you will not have to overpay for non-standard doors or remodel the opening.

What you need to know to calculate the doorway:

 • the height and width of the intended door
 • door frame thickness
 • box width
 • platband width
 • the box will be with or without a threshold.

Suppose you need a door measuring 2 by 0.8 meters and 2.5 cm thick. To calculate the dimensions of the doorway, add the dimensions of the box to the dimensions of the door, plus an installation gap of 1 to 2 cm on each side.

Figure y on shows a diagram of a doorway with a door and dimensions. From this data, we can easily get the opening width of 800 + 30 + 30 + 10 + 10 + 4 + 2 = 886 mm or 88.6 cm.

You can find out the width of the box on the website of the manufacturer of the doors you like.

 • with a threshold of 2000 + 30 + 30 + 10 + 5 + 3 = 2078 mm. or 2 meters and 7.8 cm ..
 • without threshold 2000 + 30 + 10 + 5 + 3 = 2048 mm. or 2 meters and 4.8 cm ..

Pay attention to the fact that the most common thickness is 7.5 cm and therefore many manufacturers adhere to this size.

If the wall is thicker or thinner than the box, then you will need to install an extension or cut the box along, respectively. Without these operations, you cannot and everything will look much worse.
