Artificial lighting - this is an indispensable condition, without which no enterprise can fully function or domestic premisesespecially in the dark.

In our article we will try to tell you in detail how to independently assemble, install and connect almost any chandelier, be it a simple one with one lamp, or a complex design structure for several lamps with a fan or LED backlighting.

And thanks to colorful illustrations and videos, even a person who does not have electrical engineering education can repeat the installation of the chandelier. The main thing is not to forget about safety precautions when working with electricity.

Step by step instructions for installing a chandelier with one lamp

Step 1: Marking

Skip this point if the chandelier will be installed instead of an existing one, with a similar mount. If the chandelier will be installed in a new place, or the old chandelier has a different type of mount, it is necessary to reapply the markings for the new chandelier mount.

Find the center of the ceiling. To do this, measure the length of the walls, divide the result in half, and place the resulting size on the ceiling using a cord and a pencil. IN false ceiling a small hole is drilled for the wires. IN stretch ceilings made of PVC film, first, special limiting plastic rings are glued, and then a hole for the wires is cut with a blade.

Step 2: Install the ceiling beam.

In the case when the ceiling is made in the form of a complex design structure, in the form of a multi-level gypsum plasterboard structure, stretch PVC cloth or decorative hanging plates, which complicates the direct attachment of the chandelier to the surface, it is necessary to take care of the fastening system in advance. Otherwise, wires may break or even part of the ceiling may break.

If the chandelier is quite massive and its weight is more than 15 kilograms, then to support the chandelier on the ceiling, it is necessary to lay an additional beam behind the decorative ceiling in advance. It could be like wooden barand metal structure, the main thing is that it is located exactly in the place where the chandelier is installed. You can also use a special metal chain if the distance from the main to decorative ceiling exceeds 1 meter.

Step 3: Install the junction box.

From the installation site of the future chandelier, the wires are brought out and lowered onto the wall, a junction box will be installed here. Also, the wires of the supply network and from the light switch are connected to this box.

Important note! According to safety precautions, the installation of the junction box is made no closer than 15 centimeters from the ceiling. The wires from the box should come out with a margin of 10 centimeters.

To connect the lighting line, you must use a separate group of wires coming from switchboard, it must be equipped with a residual current circuit breaker without fail.

The wires in the box are connected according to the chandelier connection diagram. The connected wires are insulated with PVC tape and placed in a box so that they do not intersect with each other. The junction box is closed with a cover and screwed in with screws. From above it will be possible to plaster and glue wallpaper.

Step 4: Install the mounting bracket.

Most simple modern single lamp chandeliers come with a bracket mount. It serves as a load-bearing fastener and allows you to install the chandelier in a short time. Also, thanks to the two mounting bolts, maintenance of the chandelier becomes much easier than in older designs with unreliable hooks.

Photo: mounting bracket and chandelier terminal connection

After marking the middle of the ceiling, the fastening bracket is applied near the wire outlet. Using a pencil, mark the place of drilling the hole for the future fixing the bracket to the ceiling. If the chandelier is already equipped with fasteners, then the drill is selected according to the diameter of the dowel. The hole for the dowels should not be located in the place where the wires pass.

Step 5: Connect the wires and fix the chandelier.

The wires coming out of the ceiling must be long enough so that, when removing the chandelier, you have access to the place where they are connected to the wires of the chandelier.

The wires are stripped of insulation and connected using a terminal block according to the diagram. If there is no terminal block included with the chandelier, then the wires are stripped to a distance of 2 centimeters and twisted in pairs, then the junction is soldered with a soldering iron. Then everything is insulated with insulating tape.

If the chandelier is made of metal and has a screw on the body for connecting a protective ground, do not forget about it. The corresponding wire coming from the junction box is stripped, rolled into a ring shape and screwed tightly with a screw.

After all the wires are connected and insulated, you can attach the chandelier. Make sure that the wires do not get under the mounting bolts, attach the chandelier to the bracket on the ceiling, aligning the mounting holes and the bracket screws - tighten the bolts.

How to connect a chandelier with two or three lamps

The procedure for installing a chandelier with two or three lamps is not much different from installing a chandelier with one lamp, as described above. An exception is the number of supply wires. For a simple chandelier with one lamp, you need two supply wires and a ground wire, if you are going to connect a chandelier with not one, but two or three lamps, then you will need three supply wires and one ground wire.

Video: How to properly connect a chandelier yourself

To connect such a chandelier, the wires from the lamp holders must be connected in accordance with the diagram. One wire is taken from each cartridge and connected together - this will be the middle point, it is connected to the zero supply wire.

If there are two lamps, then each of the remaining wires from the cartridges is connected to the corresponding phase power wire. If the chandelier is designed for three lamps, then the remaining wire from the third cartridge is connected in parallel with the phase wire from the first or second cartridge. The wires are also connected by terminal blocks or by soldering and insulated with electrical tape.

It should also be noted that to turn on such a chandelier, you will need a two-button switch and, accordingly, three-wire wiring laid to it. In this case, when one key is turned on, one lamp will light up, when the second is turned on, two other lamps, and when both keys of the switch are turned on, all three lamps will light up.

How to connect a chandelier with 5 lamps

If it becomes necessary to connect a chandelier with four or five lamps, this will also not be difficult. The technology is the same as when connecting a chandelier with two or three lamps, the only exception is the number of lamps in the groups of phase conductors. The number of groups and lamps in them depends on your imagination and is limited by the number of supply phase wires and groups of keys on the switch.

How to connect a switch for a chandelier

To enable simple chandeliers with one lamp, a one-button switch is used, its installation is as simple as possible. When connecting a chandelier with two or more lamps, two and three-button switches are used.

If the wiring has already been laid, and the number of lamp groups in the chandelier corresponds to the number of keys on the switch, it is changed to a new one, observing the connection diagram.

Wiring diagram for a two-button switch

If the switch is installed on new wiring, attention must be paid to the structure of the switch. Two and three-button switches have one common terminal, to which you need to connect the supply phase wire coming from the junction box. And each of the remaining terminals, in accordance with the location of the key and the desire to turn on a certain group of lamps, is connected to the wires going through the box to the lamps of the chandelier.

It should be noted that the switch must open exactly the phase power wire! This will protect yourself when you change a burned out lamp with the switch off.

How to connect a chandelier

Chandelier with fan

There are models of chandeliers that combine two devices: a lighting chandelier and a fan. Such a constructive solution will be of great help on hot summer days. Connecting such a chandelier is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Before connecting, read the passport for the chandelier, there will be indicated the connection diagram and the color designation of the wires, the main thing is not to confuse anything.

Ceiling fan circuit

For an easier connection, the fan leads can be figuratively represented as another lamp. You can switch on the fan at your request, either together with the lighting, or with a separate switch button.

In the case where the fan is switched on separately from the lighting, you need a three-wire power line and a two-button switch. The connection in this case will be identical to the connection of a chandelier with two lamps, only there will be a fan instead of the second lamp.

If it is planned to turn on the fan at the same time as turning on the lighting, then it is necessary to connect the wires from the fan in parallel with the terminals of the lamp holder.

In some modern models chandeliers there is decorative lighting on multi-colored LED light emitting diodes... These chandeliers create more interesting light, thereby highlighting the interior of the room.

The connection of such a lamp is made strictly according to the scheme, which is given in the passport for this product. The LEDs are designed for low-voltage power supply, therefore, a step-down LED driver is used in the chandelier kit. The power supply of such an LED driver is designed for the voltage of the lighting network of 220 volts.

When connecting such a chandelier, you can use the above instructions for connecting a chandelier with a fan, only here instead of the fan wires are the power wires of the LED driver.

You don't have to call a professional electrician to your home to connect your new chandelier to the light switch. One- or two-key - does not matter. This is a fairly simple job that you can do on your own with high quality, while saving money. The main thing is to stick to step by step instructions, listen to advice and clearly follow the recommendations given by experts in the field of electrical installation.

Chandelier connection

Whatever the chandelier, the connection principle for such lighting fixtures almost the same. And it's simple enough. Moreover, it doesn't matter - you need to connect the chandelier to a single switch or to a double one. Installation, of course, is different, but both are not difficult.

So, any light bulb is on if two obligatory wires are connected to it:

  • phase;
  • and zero.

And the chandelier is the same light bulb, and in order to connect it, one conductor from the junction box must be connected directly to the chandelier, and the second also to it, but with a break, the role of which is played by the switch. And in no case should a zero conductor be allowed through this switch. Safety precautions are strictly prescribed to lead it exclusively directly - from the junction box to the lamp (chandelier). No breaks!

Before starting the connection activities, you should make sure that the electricians who installed the wiring initially correctly colored the wires:

  • working zero-conductor must be blue or light blue;
  • protective zero-conductor - yellow-green.

To check whether the conductors were correctly designated by the masters, it is necessary, armed with an indicator screwdriver, to look where zero comes out of the junction box (or directly from the ceiling), and where is the phase.

Everything is simple here: if the indicator sensor lights up when you touch the wire, then this is a phase, no - zero. Before the procedure, the screwdriver indicator can be checked on any energized object - in an outlet or a floor panel, for example.

From the ceiling, the wires can go in different ways:

How to connect a chandelier

Connection of different chandeliers is possible to different switches:

  • one-key;
  • and two-key.

Connection via one key switch

The most simple circuit connecting a chandelier is when a wire pair comes out of a hole in the ceiling. The connection process is then extremely simple: the wires are connected in pairs, and that's it. Even the sequence of such a connection is not important. That is, the blue zero-wire in the junction box is directly connected to the zero-wire, but already in the chandelier. AND brown color the phase-wire from the power source all in the same junction box goes first to the switch, and then to exactly the same phase-wire, but already in the lamp (chandelier).

The wires must be connected using screw terminal clamps. You can also twist a wire pair with pliers, but you will definitely need to insulate the ends of the wires using special caps. These are the mandatory safety requirements.

But electrical tape (or PVC tape), which many are accustomed to "wrapping" wires, is better not to use. It will definitely dry up over time, and, naturally, the quality of the insulation performed will suffer.

In chandeliers of a certain design, there is no provision for a preliminary combination of lamps, and then wire pairs come from each of the lamps.

When there is more than one lamp in the chandelier, there are no problems with its connection. Chandelier zero-wires are assembled, connected and then connected to the network zero-wire. The same is with the phases, but they are connected from the switch to the phase-wire.

The connection process is twisting solid-colored wires. And then the resulting twists are connected to wires heading along the ceiling to the one-button switch.

Video instructions for connecting a one-button switch are presented below:

Connection via a switch with two buttons

Many today are interested in the variability of the regulation of the degree of illumination different premises in an apartment or country house... Therefore, the question of how to connect a chandelier to a double switch that allows you to turn on the chandelier lamps not only at once, but also in stages, can be especially relevant.

To begin with, almost all wiring in city apartments or country houses is now done using a three-core cable, in which there are wires in multi-colored braids. And to the mounting place of any chandelier, three multi-colored wires from a two-button switch are also suitable. And first you need to determine what is the purpose of each of these wires.

It is clear that one is a zero-wire, and it is common for the entire set of lighting lamps. And the other two are phase, passing through different switch keys.

Today, unfortunately, there is no clear color wiring diagram that all electricians would adhere to. Therefore, wires of different companies are braided in different ways. This means that before connecting the existing wires, you need to clearly find out their purpose. This can be done using a special indicator (or an indicator screwdriver - also good tool). And it is obligatory when the switch keys are on. Where the indicator detects voltage, there will be a phase, where not - a neutral conductor.

If there is no indicator in the house, the process is insignificant, but complicated. You will have to de-energize the room completely, disassemble the switch. More precisely, it will be enough just to remove the cover from it to see what color and from which key the wire goes directly to the chandelier. The zero conductor, naturally, does not pass through any keys.

In principle, connecting a chandelier through a two-key switch is similar to the process of connecting it through a one-key switch. The only difference is that the phase tube conductors are divided into 2 sections. And one twist from each lamp group is connected (together) to a zero-conductor. The remaining pair of twists is connected (individually) to the remaining pair of wires.

Connecting the chandelier to a double switch gives the user the ability to regulate the illumination of the room by lighting the lamps of the lamp in steps.

A short video instruction on how to connect a two-button switch is shown below:

Several chandeliers on one switch

This option of lighting residential and commercial premises is also possible. It is ideal where you have to turn on several lighting fixtures at the same time in one or several rooms at once.

Connection is made as follows: chandeliers (or a group of LED / halogen lamps (if halogen, then with the installation of a step-down transformer)) are connected parallel connection. Moreover, each of the lamps:

  • connected to the breaker through a separate junction box;
  • or placement takes place in a single junction box.

It all depends on which wiring diagram is chosen.

Connecting one chandelier to two switches at once

To put into practice the wiring diagram for connecting a chandelier or a group of halogen (with the installation of an additional step-down transformer) / LED lamps from 2 different switches, you will need special "pass-through" switches that are structurally different from the usual ones. In addition, there are three pins in their wiring diagram:

  • common output to the phase wire or directly to the chandelier;
  • a pair of auxiliary contacts for connecting the switches to each other.

This option of electrical distribution must be carefully thought out in advance (and if there is a repair in an apartment or office, then even before the start of repair measures). Otherwise, it will take no more, no less than to lay one more wiring in the room. Well, and the subsequent cosmetic repairs to do, of course.

Safety when installing chandeliers with connection to switches

Those who are going to independently connect the chandelier to any of the above switches in any of the above ways should be reminded once again that assembly work on the installation of lamps and high-quality connection of switches must be carried out in compliance with safety regulations. And the following rules are binding:

  1. Any electrical activities are carried out only when the corresponding branch of the wiring is completely de-energized (and it is not necessary to be content with the "off" position on the switch, it is better to put the switchboard circuit breakers in the appropriate position).
  2. Do not twist copper to aluminum wires. It is fraught with fire.
  3. Avoid touching live and open test leads.
  4. It is required to carefully monitor the wired marking when you need to connect the chandelier to a single switch, and even more so to a two-key. The zero wire is always marked with the letter "N", the phase - with the letter "L".
  5. Determine on which of the wires the phase is located, and on which zero, using a special indicator screwdriver. And it is necessary to touch the bare ends of the wires with it strictly one by one.
  6. For the period of testing the wires, the electricity is connected, but immediately after the end of the process, it is imperative to de-energize the required installation area again.

The choice of the lighting device should be entrusted to the wife. Ladies are much more fond of traveling shopping, looking for stock products, they have a better developed sense of beauty, so for her it will only be a joy. How much money should you allocate to your beloved wife? It all depends on the model, materials from which it is made, and other features. When choosing, an emphasis is placed on the unity of the design styles of the lamp and other furnishings in the room. For example:

  1. MW-LIGHT Bouquet - suspended structure guarantees ease of installation, since this five-arm chandelier can be connected using a conventional three-channel terminal box. All contacts are already grouped together and lead out in a single winding with three cables. The cost of the model does not exceed 6,000 rubles - another plus for the wallet. The floristic style is ideal for the bedroom, but also suitable for other spaces.
  2. Favorite Lanta - hanging model with advantages similar to the previous design. Looks like crystal, costs much less, ideal for decorating a living room or large halls. The total power of all lamps is 200 watts. The price of the product is 13,000 rubles.
  3. Chiaro Versace is a very luxurious piece of furniture (46,000 rubles), has a powerful structure, and is mounted on a strong ceiling hook. All this allows us to recommend the chandelier to true connoisseurs of beauty who do not spare money for luxury. Plus: all wires are hidden inside the barrel of the product, which allows you to regroup pairs of lamps.

All listed models can be purchased in our store, they are always in stock. If you have difficulties with the choice, you can contact a consultant.

How to connect a five-arm chandelier without tools?

Not every home has voltmeters, multimeters, indicator screwdrivers and other equipment for electrical work. In order not to spend money on their purchase, we decided to give you a few useful tipshow to do without serious tools and still connect ceiling lamp correctly:

  1. An indicator screwdriver is needed to identify the phase and zero. You can find out about the purpose of the wires in other ways: look in technical documentation, from the marking ("L" - phase, "N" - zero) or by color - brown, black or red colors are characteristic of the phase, zero is indicated in blue.
  2. A multimeter is required to check the correct connection of a 5-light chandelier. A simple way to do the same, but without the device, is to turn on the power supply and press the switch keys.
  3. Instead of pliers, you can use a regular kitchen knife to clean the cable conductors. The braid is heated by fire from a lighter, softened and removed. Try not to overheat the wire to avoid losing its performance.

Everything you need to connect a 5-arm chandelier: a sturdy chair, a knife, electrical tape. Instead of twisting the wires, you can use a terminal box, it comes with the lighting equipment itself.

Basic diagrams for connecting a ceiling lamp

We will cover 4 methods of cable synchronization:

  1. How to connect a 5-arm chandelier to a one-button switch.
  2. Method of synchronizing the luminaire cables with the terminals of a two-key panel.
  3. Connection of equipment from which 10 wires depart.
  4. Installing a chandelier with three cables.

How to connect a 5-arm chandelier to a one-button switch?

This breaker model has two or three cables for the main power supply network: phase, earth and zero. In most cases "land" is absent, its use is justified only in industrial buildings. A one-key switch will turn on and off all lamps at the same time, so there is no point in dividing them into groups. If two cables with a phase come out of the chandelier, they should be wound together and brought into the terminal box. You can use the serial connection method: insert the ends of the cores from different slots, fasten them with bolts and close them with an additional common cable with a cross section of 0.25 sq. Mm. The final step in connecting a five-arm chandelier is to insulate the additional wire after connecting.

Zero is always a common cable, therefore, only one core is provided for it from the common network and from the chandelier - there will be no connection problems.

Wiring diagram for a chandelier with 5 lamps for a two-button switch

From the breaker with two buttons, there are two phase wires and one zero. Chandelier manufacturers with five lamps also divide the total number of lamps into two groups: two and three lamps. Therefore, three cables also come out of the trunk of the lighting device: two phases and zero.

This wiring diagram for a chandelier with 5 bulbs is the simplest: connect the phases of the chandelier with the phases of the mains and both zeros by twisting or inside the terminal box. When using the latter, do not tighten the contacts too much - the core may break off, and the electrical circuit will be interrupted.

How to pick up a chandelier with 5 bulbs and 10 wires?

This is where difficulties arise most often, but this method has one important advantage - you yourself choose which lamps to combine into groups. The neutral wire is always common, therefore, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Hang the chandelier on a hook so that it does not fall or hang.
  2. Find the neutral wire using colors, markings or instructions in the technical passport.
  3. Connect the 5 zero cores of the chandelier with pliers or a screwdriver in the terminal box in a sequential manner.
  4. Insert one neutral cable into the box on the other side and fix it with fasteners.
  5. Divide the phases into two groups if you have a two-button switch or combine them into one if you have a one-button switch. The number of terminal boxes used depends on the number of groups: it is easier to hide two small ones than one long one.
  6. Connect the phases in the same way. All twists should be insulated with tape.

Important: do not touch the conductive paths even when they are de-energized. Residual stress will not cause a critical strike, but it can incapacitate a person for a while.

Wiring diagram for chandelier in 5 arms and three common cables

The method is similar to the first method. However, here the manufacturer himself has already distributed the groups of lamps and simplified your task: you do not have to think about how to connect the wires in a chandelier with 5 arms. After connecting, check the operability of the lighting device. To do this, activate the switchboard circuit breaker and turn on the switch buttons. If you followed our instructions strictly, everything should start working after the first installation attempt.

Go for it! We are sure that your work will delight your wife, mother-in-law and other ladies in your environment!

Connecting lighting fixtures seems like an easy task. It would seem, what is so difficult here - to connect two wires coming from the ceiling? However, sometimes an unexpected problem arises before the home craftsman: what to do if the chandelier has not two, but three wires? How and where to connect them? Let's try to understand this issue.

Required tool

To connect the chandelier correctly, you will need:

  • Indicator screwdriver or voltage indicator;
  • Multimeter;
  • Pliers;
  • Terminal block for three terminals;
  • Insulating tape.

You will also need a stepladder or a stable stand, a marker, a sheet of paper and a passport for the lighting fixture.

Determining the purpose of the wires in the chandelier

The simplest thing is to use the electrical circuit, which can be found in the passport for the lighting device. It usually indicates the purpose of all wires and the order of their connection. According to accepted standards, the color marking of the wires should be done as follows:

  • White or brown wire - phase;
  • Blue wire - zero;
  • Green-yellow wire - protective ground.

If there is no documentation for the chandelier, and the color coding of the wires does not clearly indicate their belonging, it is necessary to determine their purpose using a multimeter.

Connecting a double-circuit chandelier to the mains

To properly connect a chandelier with three wires, two of which are phase, it is necessary to inspect the switch and the wires coming out of the ceiling. The simplest case is when the switch is two-key, and three wires come out of the ceiling. You can determine the purpose of these wires as follows:

  1. Take an indicator screwdriver or voltage gauge.
  2. Turn on both keys of the switch.
  3. Touch the voltage indicator to the stripped ends of all three wires alternately. When it comes into contact with the phase wires, a light on the voltage indicator will light up.
  4. Mark the phase wires with a marker.
  5. Turn off the switch. Check all three wires again. The light should not light up!
  6. Connect alternately the phase wires of the chandelier to the marked phase wires of the electrical wiring, also connect the neutral wires. The connection is made using a terminal block or twisted using insulating caps or electrical tape.
  7. They check the operation of the chandelier, alternately turning on both keys.

If the switch is single-key and only two wires come out of the ceiling, then it is necessary to check them with the voltage indicator on with the switch turned on and find the phase and neutral wires. The phase wires of the chandelier are connected to each other and to the phase wire of the electrical wiring, the neutral wires are also connected. Check the switching on and off of the chandelier.

If a single-key switch is installed, and there are three wires in the wiring, it is necessary to find out the purpose of the third wire. To do this, turn on the switch and check the presence of voltage on all wires. If the phase is detected on two wires, then the two-key switch needs to be replaced, and the chandelier can be connected using a three-wire circuit. If the phase is on only one wire, and the third wire has yellow-green insulation, then the connection is made as in the previous case: both phase wires of the chandelier are connected to the phase wire of the electrical wiring, and the grounding conductor is isolated and removed.

Connecting a chandelier with a ground wire

If the luminaire has a metal housing, it must be grounded. In new apartments, all electrical networks, including lighting, must have a yellow-green grounding conductor according to standards. If your network meets this requirement, then to connect the chandelier, it is enough to connect the wires with the corresponding color marking using a terminal block or twist.

If the networks are old, and the insulation of all wires has the same color, then you should act in the following sequence:

  1. Determine the number and purpose of the wires coming out of the ceiling. If there are two wires, then turn on the switch and find the phase and zero with the voltage indicator. The switch is turned off and the wires are connected to the corresponding wires of the chandelier, and the ground wire at the chandelier is insulated.
  2. If there are three wires, then proceed in the same way. If there are two separate circuits and a two-button switch in the network, then the phase wires of the wiring are combined and connected to the phase wire of the chandelier, the neutral wires of the wiring and chandeliers are also connected, and the ground wire is isolated.

Safety engineering

Care must be taken when connecting any electrical appliance. All connections and connections must be carried out only with the switch off after checking the absence of voltage on the wires. Places of twists are insulated with special caps or electrical tape. If you doubt that you can connect a chandelier with three wires correctly, it is better to entrust this business to professionals.

Chandeliers are most often used as lighting fixtures in residential premises - multi-lamp lamps designed for ceiling mounting.

A chandelier is a structure that connects several lighting elements - bulbs, which allows you to provide good lighting in the room.

If you use an ordinary light bulb in the room, then to ensure proper lighting, you will need to install a powerful lighting element, and even then, with significant volumes of the room, it will not be enough.

But such light is not always needed, therefore more the best option is the use of multiple lamps.

But in the case of using ordinary bulbs to power each of them, you will have to lay your own wire or branch from the junction box.

But if you install a chandelier, the design of which involves the installation of several bulbs, then the connection will be the same in complexity as one or more bulbs.

But at the same time, all lighting elements included in the structure will be powered, and from one wire.

And all because the branching of the wiring occurs at the entrance to the chandelier, and not in the junction box.

Well, do not discount the aesthetic side of the issue. A lone light bulb hanging on the ceiling looks dull, or it’s a beautiful chandelier.

To get good lighting in a room with an excellent combination of lighting fixture with the interior, it is not enough just to purchase a suitable chandelier, it still needs to be hung and connected correctly.

Parsing the contacts of the lighting device

When installing the lighting kit on a ceiling surface, wires are found both on the ceiling itself and in the device. If the wiring of the room has already been laid, then there can be two, 3 or 4 wiring on the ceiling plane. Regardless of their number, one will be "zero", the rest are phase. Sometimes there is a ground wire.

But this is a rarity and there is such a guide either in newly-built houses, or after major renovation works, during which the wiring was completely changed. According to the existing standards, the grounding is colored yellow-green. It is connected to exactly the same conductor on the chandelier. If there is no grounding in the lighting kit, then the wire on the ceiling should be well insulated and left unused. It is impossible not to isolate it - it can short-circuit.

After the grounding is found, you need to deal with the remaining veins and determine where the zero and phase elements are. As a rule, all wiring is painted black, therefore, to recognize which one, it is better to ring them.

Calling can be done in two ways:

  • Indicator screwdriver - in this special device, a red light will light up as soon as voltage is detected. To work with it, first of all, it is necessary to set the switch key and the button on the input circuit breaker to the "on" position. Now you can ring the conductors very carefully. Having determined where the "phase" is, you need to highlight them with color. After dialing, the keys must be switched to the "off" position. If possible, all manipulations on connecting the chandelier should be carried out with the machine turned off on the dashboard;
  • A tester (multimeter) - here the switch is set to the "volts" position, then a scale with an indicator greater than 220V is selected. With the available probes, gently, holding the handles, you need to touch the pairs of conductors. If there are two "phases" in a pair, the tester indicator will not change in any way. If a similar pair is found, then the third wire is most likely zero. Next, the selected pair must be connected to the "zero" using a probe, at the same time 220 V should appear on the indicator. According to the international classification, the zero conductor is designated by the letter N, and the phase conductors - L.

If there are three conductors on the ceiling sheet, and the switch has 2 keys, then there are two phase wires for each of the keys, and one common zero conductor.

It is as easy as shelling pears to connect a chandelier with a pair of conductors: one must be connected to "phase", the second to "zero". It does not matter where and which one gets.

In a situation where there are two "phases" on the ceiling sheet, and the switch has a pair of keys, that is, there are several options:

  • Both phase conductors are twisted, and one from the chandelier is connected to them. In this version, the device will be turned off by two buttons at once, but any of them will turn on;
  • The wire is connected to one of the phase ones on the ceiling, and the second is insulated. Then only one key of the switch can work, while the second will remain idle.

In the case of three-lamp and other multi-track chandeliers, we have more than two wires. If yellow-green is represented among them, that is, grounding, then if there is one on the ceiling, you need to connect them together. Three wires have luminaires with one working light.

Since all contacts are defined and labeled, all zero conductors coming out of a separate cartridge are initially combined in the center. In this case, the "phases" remain divided into 2 groups in the form of 1 2. Where contact is 2, they must be twisted as a single pair. When the power is off, the contacts of the device itself are connected to the ceiling.

The standard situation for connecting a chandelier to a double switch with 4 shades is the presence of the lamp itself, a two-button switch and three contacts coming out of ceiling slab... Sometimes, especially in new buildings, there is a fourth contact in the form of grounding, which is used if the lighting device has the same.

You can connect such a device in two ways:

  • the first, when the connection diagram of the contacts looks like 1 3, that is, either one or three lamps can light up at once;
  • the second has a scheme in the form of 2 2, when the lamps will be lit in pairs. This method is energy-intensive and is used most often when 1 lamp is not enough for full illumination of the space, and three are many.

When you press a pair of keys at once, all four horns on the chandelier will light up.

To connect a 4-arm chandelier to a double switch, you need to connect the phase contact coming from the network through the distribution panel to the wire that goes to the switch. Then you can connect it to the input contact, where it is always located. The second conductor, which is connected to the key conductor, is directed to the junction box, where it is connected to a contact that is connected to the device installation site. Here, the contacts of the device and the network must be connected to each other. The contacts on the adjacent key are connected in the same way.

The difference between these two keys comes down to the different number of "phase" wires connected to the mains wires.

The scheme of work on connecting the device, where there are five bulbs, is rather complicated. This is due to the large number of conductors, each of which must be dealt with. Lamps, when operated on a two-button switch, help save energy by operating in a suitable mode.

Before starting work, determine the common wire coming out of the device. This will be the zero contact, which is marked with colored electrical tape. This must be done in order not to confuse it with other veins in the future. There is a similar contact on ceiling surface, while it is also marked with duct tape of the corresponding color.

Those contacts that, after checking on an indicator screwdriver, showed voltage are called phase contacts. They are coming out of the ceiling opening and in each horn.

When all the veins are found and marked, the five-arm chandelier is hung on a hook, and the contacts begin to connect. Zero and then phase conductors are combined first. The light bulbs can be assigned to the switch keys according to the scheme 2 3 or 1 4. The first option is optimal, in which one key turns on two lamps, and the second the remaining three. Also, all bulbs can work at the same time.

The intensity of light fluxes in the room depends on the specific type and power of the lamps used in the lamp.

If you plan to connect a multi-lamp six-arm luminaire, then the wiring must accordingly be suitable. At the same time, a two-key switch model can provide only three operating modes:

  • two burning lamps;
  • four lamps;
  • all 6 working bulbs.

Most of the devices with 6 bulbs have a properly assembled electrical part already. If not, then the man in the street will meet 12 contacts in the lamp (2 for each horn). Six zero cores should be combined in one terminal. The remaining six phase contacts are combined into two terminals in groups (2 4).

On the ceiling, all contacts are also ringed to highlight "zero" and "phases". Next, it is determined which conductor corresponds to this or that key. To do this, one key is switched to the "off" mode and the presence of electricity is checked. If the indicator shows no current, then the conductor corresponding to the switched off key is selected.

After all the preparations, contacts from the chandelier are connected to each switch key. The zero ceiling conductor is connected to the “zero” in the terminal box of the chandelier, the phase conductors are combined with the groups of phase contacts of the device.

What is taken into account before carrying out work?

Let's immediately define a few key points that must be taken into account:

And yet, it is one thing to simply remove the old lighting fixture and connect a new one instead, and quite another to completely create a lighting power line, including the wiring from the switchboard, the installation of switches, junction boxes and lighting fixtures, and then connecting them into one network.

We will not delve into the peculiarities of self-laying of the chandelier's power branch, since we are only more interested in the ways of connecting the lighting elements, although some points regarding the wiring will be touched upon.

Useful information

Let's point out some features that can help:

  • The circuit breaker is carried out only along the phase line, and the zero core and the grounding (if any) go directly to the consumer;
  • For each branch at the output of their switch, its own phase wire is laid (It is divided in the switch itself. A single-key switch has one phase conductor at the output, a two-key switch has two, a three-key switch has three). This affects the wire used from the breaker;
  • On the terminal blocks of the chandeliers, you can find the designation of the terminals, which facilitates the connection (the marking "L" indicates that the output is phase, "N" - zero, "PE" - ground).
