It is impossible to imagine a house without doors. We need them in order to enter or leave the premises. In ancient times, our ancestors covered their homes with animal skins to keep warm and protect from wild animals. The first buildings required the development of a universal structure that would reliably close the premises. Over time, people learned how to process wood and extract metal, which made it possible to use these materials to make doors. The new time requires the use of new materials that are unpretentious in care and practical to use.

Features:

The most common material for the manufacture of input and interior doors can be considered metal-plastic. Entrance doors are essential for reliable protection from unwanted guests. Interroom are important to limit space and in each separate room have their important function. Bathroom and restroom need doorway for obvious reasons, the kitchen is closed due to the spread of odors. Doors in the bedroom, nursery, living room, office provide privacy and sound insulation.

To appreciate the advantages of a metal-plastic door structure, it is worth understanding the features of such a material.

Among them are the following:

  • The presented material has a relatively low weight with sufficient strength, which puts it in a more advantageous position in comparison with other canvases.
  • Metal plastic doors they are used both in the form of entrance and in the form of interroom, which confirms their versatility. Their difference is in the different strength of the profile and the possibility of installing the lock.

  • Metal-plastic is a material based on a metal (or an alloy of metals) coated with plastic. This structure makes it possible to manufacture structures by welding, which indicates their strength.
  • PVC coating is non-toxic and suitable for indoor use for any purpose.
  • The cost of the material, with all its quality characteristics, is quite acceptable.

  • A material such as plastic is easy to care for, so due to its resistance to various chemical compounds used to remove a variety of dirt, doors with such a coating will not be a hassle.
  • Possibility of giving desired color and texture gives an advantage over other materials.

Making changes to the interior with finishing materials and pieces of furniture, we create a certain style and character of this room. Doors as part of the space of the room cannot but play a role in the overall exposition, so it is worth distinguishing between the types of such structures in order to be able to include them in your home.

Views

All metal sheet door structures can be divided into the following subspecies:

  • Input- perform mainly a protective function and require a good door lock. Reinforced more durable metal profile, reinforced with fittings, are fastened with hinged hinges, which will provide a strong connection with the door frame. Models are available both without glass and with partial or full glazing.

  • Interroom doors made of metal-plastic will fit well into any interior, since the coating can imitate a variety of materials. It is the ability to give plastic to any texture and shape that allows you to expand the range of models. A quality metal carcass will guarantee the strength of the structure for many years. There are also models with glass inserts, transparent or frosted, as well as imitating stained glass.

  • Street - in private houses, such designs will be in harmony with windows made of window profile the same color. It is important that the door located on the sunny side of the building has mechanisms to prevent deformations associated with temperature extremes, namely the presence of more than one locking tongue on the end side. For better thermal insulation the presence of a seal around the perimeter is provided.

  • Bivalve models have two doors, which makes possible expansion the usual opening to the width of another sash. Applies to both interior and exterior doors. This will allow you to bring in and take out large-sized furniture or appliances. If the design of the apartment assumes a wide doorway, then such a modification will provide a harmonious division of space, and you can use only one sash, and open the other as needed.

Design

Designers and engineers develop unusual door designs that save space and visually expand the space.

Let's consider some features of their structure:

  • Sliding doors will easily fit into a small room or a wider space. Their peculiarity lies in the mechanism that opens the door along the wall in which the opening is located. The movement is carried out along the guide rails that fix the sash in the upper and lower parts. In this case, external characteristics can be of any kind, for example, such doors can be made in the form of a French window

  • Doubles are installed if the width of the doorway exceeds 90 cm. This is the permissible width of one leaf, at which the structure can withstand loads. Basically, both of them are made rarely opening, more often the narrow one is deaf. The opening mechanism can allow the door to move both inside the room and outward, or both (pendulum).
  • You can visually reduce the limited space by installing a model with a double-glazed window, which can be one- or two-chamber, depending on the required heat and noise insulation. Glass, as mentioned earlier, can have the required tint or opacity. Also, for decorative purposes, double-glazed windows are made with a binding of horizontal and vertical strips. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

  • Sliding structures are doors consisting of two or more leaves, when opened, they fold in the form of an accordion.
  • Arched models have non-standard dimensions, so a change in the doorway is assumed. This can be achieved by rebuilding this opening or by inserting from the same profile.

The use of a metal-plastic base does not limit the possibility of manufacturing windows of various shapes and sizes, which makes it possible to choose a model that suits the style of the building. In any case, measurements are taken before installing the metal-plastic doors.

Dimensions

Standard and generally accepted sizes are suitable for residents of block high-rise buildings, where the parameters of the doors were determined by the accepted norms during the construction of the building.

Tall door designs are suitable for rooms with high ceilings where the doorway is above average. Moreover, if the length door leaf exceeds the permissible, additionally install a transom in the upper part door block... In fact, this is a blind window, which can be either plastic (sandwich panel) or with a glass unit.

Colors

The style and character of the room determines color scheme all furnishings of rooms or buildings, this also applies to doors. Since plastic is easy to paint, the possibility of making doors of various colors will not raise doubts.

Doors in this regard can have the following characteristics:

  • The glossy surface of the door can have the desired shade, it all depends on the desired effect.
  • The matte finish will add a rubber-like appearance, making the color softer and warmer.
  • The ability to add texture and any color can create the effect of wood, stone, metal or other material.

  • You can also choose the color of the glass based on your own preferences. Spraying the painting will add artistic lines. It is also possible to manufacture a double-glazed unit that imitates stained glass painting.
  • When choosing an input model, they choose mainly its dark tones.
  • When choosing interior doors, they are guided by the color scheme of the room, as well as a harmonious combination with furnishings.

How to choose?

When choosing a metal-plastic door for your home, familiarize yourself with their subtleties and features. This will save the budget from unnecessary spending, and you from unnecessary trouble. And long-term use of correctly selected doors will guarantee a great mood.

When making a choice in favor of a door with glass, it is worth considering its functional load. If its purpose is to be a partition of the interior space, then you should decide how much you need glass transparency. The size of the glass unit should also be chosen taking into account the characteristics of your room. The larger the glass unit, the more you open the boundaries of space. The most acceptable option is glazing to the middle of the door.

Using such doors for a private house, it is worth considering the compatibility of the entrance doors with the windows of the building, as well as the reliability and strength of the model you have chosen. Make sure that the door is correctly installed and complete, and that it is tight when closing.

Doors made of metal-plastic are made of a special profile, which is more durable than for windows. Therefore, when choosing, it is worth asking whether the manufacturers of the company you have chosen take this into account.

A blind door is more reliable to protect against room cooling and penetration. The decorative facade will add attractiveness to the model. External doors should be chosen according to the main indicators of their reliability - this is a special design, fastening on hanging hinges, hermetic closure.

If the selected design has a transom, then make sure that the removable elements - glazing beads, are on the inside. This also applies to models with a glass unit. It should be as energy efficient as possible, that is, it should not allow air to pass through. For greater efficiency, not ordinary air is pumped between the glasses, but a special gas, which allows you to achieve the desired effect.

Not so long ago, metal-plastic doors were installed only on balconies. With the development of technology, wider and more reliable profiles have appeared, allowing them to be used as entrance to private houses and cottages. They are devoid of major disadvantages wooden doors - do not swell from moisture, do not require regular renewal of the paintwork, but they can look exactly the same or completely different - it's up to your taste. Of course, they cannot compare with the reliability of metal entrance doors, but in cottages and private houses such a margin of safety is not needed. First, you can enter through the windows. They are now no smaller. Secondly, they guard the territory and the gates. So plastic entrance doors are a perfectly justified choice. Especially when you consider that they have many advantages and not very many disadvantages.

Plastic entrance doors can be part of the entrance group - with windows on the sides

Pros and cons of a plastic front door

  • Flexible manufacturing technology that allows you to make entrance doors PVC of any configuration, color, design.
  • Good performance in cold / heat protection.
  • Various opening systems.
  • They can be used in hot and cold climates.
  • They do not react to changes in humidity.
  • Provide good protection against noise and dust.
  • Compatible with alarms.
  • The ability to install locks of any complexity - conventional and with closing in all directions.
  • They require minimal maintenance and are easy to clean.

Of all the advantages, it is often decisive that you can order plastic entrance doors according to your own project. Without any restrictions. Another plus is the possibility of implementing a swing or sliding system. Sliding system fits perfectly with French windows. The glazing area and they practically do not differ from the windows, as a result we get a very harmonious solution. Thus, they form an exit to the terrace, to the garden, to the backyard. Other materials do not provide such an opportunity - they are not compatible with the sliding system.

Sliding plastic entrance doors are a great way to decorate the exit to the terrace, to the garden to the backyard

Despite all the advantages, they have plastic entrance doors and disadvantages:

  • High price.
  • Complexity of installation.
  • Not too high resistance to burglary.

Most of the questions arise during installation. To increase reliability, a metal reinforcing strip is installed around the perimeter of the doorway. This also increases the complexity of the installation. In addition, it is necessary to observe the technology that provides a high degree of heat and sound insulation. All this makes the installation more difficult.

Plastic entrance doors: types, materials

How well the entrance plastic doors meet your expectations, how well they will work, whether or not they will cause inconvenience depends on whether the materials and fittings are correctly selected. Shape stability depends on how consistent the technology is (whether there is reinforcement in the corners, how the holes for fittings are cut in the profile). The combination of these points ensures that even plastic outdoor doors work without problems. Therefore, pay attention to every nuance.

Opening method

According to the number of leaves, entrance plastic doors are one, two, three and four-leaf. Most often, in private houses, doors with one or two wings are installed. Bivalves can be with two or one movable leaves. The second sash also opens, but only in certain situations - if you need to let more air into the house or bring in something voluminous. For such models, the second sash is fixed with bolts at the top and bottom. Tricuspids most often have one fixed and two movable valves, in four-leafed ones - a ratio of two to two.

The number of leaves is determined by the width doorway... Up to 90 cm, you can make one sash, from 1 meter to 1.8 m - two. A wider aisle requires a three-leaf door.

By the way of opening, the doors are swing (with opening inward or outward) and sliding. Swing doors can be conventional or swing doors (when they can be opened both inside the building and outside). In private houses, pendulum ones are very rarely installed, mainly if doors lead to the terrace.

Another point: the entrance doors to private house usually open outward. This is not a rule, but it is so accepted. Firstly, it is more difficult to knock them out from the outside, and secondly, it is easier, if necessary, to take out from the inside. But we must remember that this increases the cost of the structure, since the loops are required of a different type, more expensive.

Profile

The quality and properties of plastic entrance doors is determined by the quality and properties of the profile from which they are made. Therefore, be very careful about choosing a profile. It is advisable to use products of well-known companies. Rehau, Veka, KBE. They are tested, you know exactly what you get. Anonymous or little-known producers are a big risk. It would not be necessary to change the doors soon because of their unsatisfactory quality.

Profile thickness and number of chambers

Outdoor plastic doors are made from a special profile. It is wider and "thicker" than the one that is used for the manufacture of balcony doors and certainly wider than the one that goes to the windows. A reinforcing element is installed inside the profile. For plastic doors, they put a contour made of durable plastic, in metal-plastic reinforcing contour of aluminum.

For metal-plastic entrance doors, a class A profile is used, the minimum thickness of which is 70 mm, the maximum thickness of 118 mm, the thickness of the outer wall is at least 3 mm. In addition, it has more chambers and is reinforced with thicker aluminum.

The choice of profile thickness depends on several factors. The first is the climatic zone. The colder / hotter it is in your area, the thicker the profile should be. The second factor that must be taken into account is whether there is a vestibule in the house. If there is one, you can try to save money - the vestibule will be a buffer zone. At the same time, do not forget about the cost - the thicker the profile, the more expensive it is.

Another important point is the number of isolated chambers in the profile (the more, the better, and at least 3 chambers, but 5 is better), as well as the wall thickness of the outer bulkhead. Thicker outer wall - its greater strength, better protection against temperature extremes.

Still, to give entrance PVC doors of greater rigidity, reinforcing elements are placed in the corners. This is an important point to prevent distortions from severity or temperature differences. All these features affect the final quality and ease of use.

There is also a so-called "warm profile for a plastic door". It has an additional plastic insert - a thermal break. It insulates the outside and inside of the profile. This improves the thermal insulation characteristics, and has a positive effect on sound insulation.

Reinforcement

For the manufacture of the frame and sash, a profile is used, inside which a reinforcing element is inserted - an aluminum profile. It can be C-shaped, U-shaped and closed - in the form of a rectangle. The most reliable is closed. It has great rigidity, which guarantees the preservation of the shape of the door during temperature extremes. Moreover, please note that such a closed reinforcing profile should be both on the frame and on the sash. Then, even with large temperature drops, the door will not "bend".

The difference between the profile for the manufacture of a plastic entrance door in a thicker plastic, more chambers and a reinforcing contour made of thicker metal

At the same time, the reinforcing profile is used with a thickness of 2 mm - this is the minimum, and there is also 3 mm metal. This makes the structure heavier. It is by the mass of the door that the balcony block can be indirectly distinguished from the entrance plastic door. It makes no sense to take too thick metal, but thin one simply will not withstand the load.

How the holes are cut

There is only one very important point. At many firms, when making doors, holes for installing locks are cut out with a grinder. Moreover, the holes are made with a solid "margin". It is easier and faster, but such holes significantly weaken the structure.

It is with this method of cutting holes that the door bends with a "saber" at large temperature differences. This is when it is -20 ° C outside, and + 25 ° C in the house. In principle, the profile begins to bend at less significant differences - from about -5 ° C. Just as the difference increases, the gap grows at the top and bottom. Before ordering plastic doors, make sure the holes are milled and not cut with a grinder.

Hinges

Since the profile and double-glazed windows for exit plastic doors are heavy, the hinges must be reliable. Models - only overhead, window models are not applicable. It is desirable to choose the best available - PVC outdoor entrance doors to a private house open / close very often. Only good quality guarantees many years of trouble-free use.

On the sash standard width (60-80 cm) put three loops, wider - 4, rarely more. Each of the loops is designed for 150-200 kg, so that their total "carrying capacity" is very high. But you shouldn't install less powerful ones - the doors open often, so the fittings must be reliable. That is why it is better to order hinges from well-known manufacturers. It is they who are responsible for how long the door will serve, whether or not it will warp.

Special hinges for plastic doors provide for

To ensure that the doors do not warp during operation, it is important to adjust them well. The sash weight must be evenly distributed over all hinges. Then, under any conditions, there will be no bias and other problems.

Glazing

Plastic entrance doors can be without glass at all. Also, the glass can be located in the upper part of the door (its height is any). There is a third option - full glazing.

If the glass is made from the very top to the bottom, it is usually divided by a transverse crossbar - an impost. This is not necessary - there are firms that make solid glass, but there are few of them, since the technology is complex. Such glazing is much more expensive, and there is also the possibility that it can change the geometry. So they basically try to persuade them to divide by impost. Such double-glazed windows are easier to manufacture, cheaper and more reliable. The location of the crossbar is determined depending on the design - if the entrance group assumes the presence of windows nearby, they are made either at the same level, or with a significant gap.

For outdoor plastic doors, double-glazed windows are usually used. They provide a sufficient level of sound and heat insulation. Single-chamber energy-saving double-glazed windows also have good performance. In general, there are the following types of double-glazed windows:

Glasses can be ordinary, patterned, colored, satin (matte) with mirror coating. There are also armored ones. All this makes it possible to select the characteristics of double-glazed windows for entrance plastic doors according to your requirements. Each company has slightly different characteristics, the photo above shows data on Ruhau companies.

Threshold

Outdoor exit plastic doors can be equipped with a threshold of two types:

Threshold selection is not the most difficult point, but it also contributes to the level of comfort. For entrance groups, it is advisable to make the threshold with a thermal break. This will prevent the cold from penetrating the threshold.

Locking systems

Plastic entrance doors can be equipped with conventional locks - with one fixation point (single-point) or multi-clamp. Multi-clamp have several "tongues" coming out of the sash.

There are two types of locks with several locks - multi-clamp and multi-point. The hold-downs are designed for better clamping of the sash to the frame. This ensures heat preservation, so such locks should be used if plastic entrance doors separate a warm room from the street or a cold vestibule.

The second type - multi-point - have a hanged burglary resistance. They have longer crossbars (tongues) that are more difficult to squeeze out. These locks are worth using if you need to be safe. great importance... More specifically, the walls are stone, the windows are small, with installed roller shutters and alarms. Then it makes sense to put a more reliable lock. Otherwise, intruders will simply bypass the doors using the windows.

If you need both characteristics - both good thermal insulation and reliability - you can supply a multi-clamp anti-burglar. They have pins (tongues) in the form of a mushroom. They cannot be easily hacked.

Locks in multi-clamp locks are located vertically (from 4 to 6) and in the corners (at high heights, additional ones are placed). This helps to improve the fit of the door. They can be driven by a key, or they can be driven by a handle. It is more convenient to use the handle. But it should be borne in mind that multi-press locks require a certain sequence of actions when closing. Over time, the owners get used to this, but at first it is inconvenient.

Video on assembling a plastic door

It is unlikely that anyone decides to assemble plastic doors on their own. It's just that after watching these videos, it's easier to understand the structure of the door, the purpose of each of the elements.

September 24, 2016
Specialization: master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing works and styling floor coverings... Installation of door and window blocks, decoration of facades, installation of electrical, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you have a balcony or loggia, then most likely you have a balcony door with a window on one or both sides installed. This type of structure is called a balcony block and can have a wide variety of configurations.

Previously, during construction, wood products were always installed, the requirements for which are spelled out in GOST 11214-86 "Double wooden windows and balcony doors for residential and public buildings." In modern buildings, plastic is increasingly being installed, which is much better in terms of reliability. If you are thinking about replacing this part, then this review will tell you all the nuances of the work and the types of structures that can be used.

Legal aspects related to balcony doors

I am very often asked questions about whether dismantling a balcony door is a redevelopment. There are several nuances that need to be discussed:

  • If you just want to remove the window and door and leave the opening, then no approvals are needed, because the wall configuration does not change;
  • If you need to expand the opening, then you cannot do without approval. If you live in panel house, then permission will most likely not be given to you, if in brick, then such an opportunity may be present;
  • If your balcony is transitional and can be used as an escape passage, then you will not receive permission for dismantling. You can only replace the balcony block;
  • Finally, if you want to replace the door with a different type of structure, no permissions are required.

Can be put completely glass structures instead of standard or replace wood with PVC, there are no restrictions. The main thing is that the design is reliable and durable. If you are interested in the requirements for glass doors on transitional balconies, then the most important of them is resistance to burglary, most modern manufacturers use anti-burglary fittings, so this question disappears by itself.

In the review, I will talk about which doors can be installed, especially since there are many options, and each of them has its own advantages.

Door types

I will talk about three main options: wooden, plastic and aluminum doors to the balcony. Each solution has its own advantages and disadvantages, so the final choice is yours anyway.

Wooden doors

This option is well known to almost everyone - the products do not tolerate moisture well, the structure deforms over time, which is why the door does not close well. But modern products are very different from the Soviet versions, these are no longer low-quality doors, in our time they have a number of advantages:

  • The structure is made of laminated veneer lumber, which tolerates moisture changes much better and practically does not deform over time. Such products will not warp in a couple of years, they will work as expected for a long time;

  • High-quality fittings should be used in the design, this guarantees ease of use;

In general, I would advise first of all to clarify what fittings are used in the design. No one will put expensive components on low-quality products, so if the seller talks about the reliability of the hardware, then, most likely, this is a good option.

  • Wood is an environmentally friendly material, and this, according to many, is its main advantage. In addition, the beauty of the natural structure of wood can be very useful in many interiors, and if you wish, you can buy painted in the options you need;

  • Thermal insulation performance of wood is much higher than that of plastic or aluminum, therefore, if you need to protect the room from the penetration of cold, then choose wooden doors with energy-saving glass units. The most reliable option is a double construction, in which there is space between the canvases;
  • Another plus of wooden doors is that, if necessary, you can carry out repairs yourself. The surface can be painted with any suitable compound, and the broken fittings can be replaced with a new one;

  • Structures can be made from both pine and more durable species: oak or larch. The latter options are much stronger and withstand moisture much better, but their cost will also be noticeably higher than that of standard solutions.

Now let's deal with the shortcomings, they are also available:

  • If you have an open balcony, then over time, the paintwork on the structure will inevitably collapse and all elements will need to be painted. If you have a closed balcony or loggia, then this aspect does not matter;
  • The biggest disadvantage of wood products is the high price. For example, standard version A balcony block with a size of 2000x1500 mm made of pine will cost you about 35-37 thousand rubles, a product made of larch will be 4-5 thousand more expensive. And if you decide to install an oak structure, then be prepared to spend about 70,000 rubles.

Plastic windows

This is the most popular and demanded version of the product today. There are several reasons for this popularity:

Democratic price The cost of a balcony block on average is from 10 to 15 thousand, as you can see, in comparison with the same tree, this option wins at times. But I do not recommend buying the cheapest structures, it is better to pay more, but to get a product from a high-quality profile with good-quality fittings and energy-saving double-glazed windows

Advantage Description
Durability The design will serve you for decades, and if you use it for open balcony or a loggia, then the service life increases significantly. Roughly speaking, you can put plastic on and forget that the doors need to be changed in the near future. PVC is not afraid of temperature and humidity changes, which determines its durability
Good performance High-quality structures have good heat and sound insulation indicators, that is, for a reasonable price you get perfect solutionthat will protect your home from the cold and extraneous sounds... If the balcony is glazed, then even near the motorway, the noise in the apartment will be minimal
Choice of color If the usual option white seems too dull and boring to you, then you can purchase laminated products. They may be different colors, as well as imitate the structure of natural wood, making the structure as attractive as possible

It should be noted that the glazing area in plastic doors is much larger than in wooden counterparts. The glass unit can be from floor to ceiling, which provides the best illumination of the premises.

Of course, PVC balcony doors have their disadvantages:

  • Many people believe that the material of manufacture has negative influence on human health. This is only partly true: there are indeed harmful components in plastic, but their content does not exceed the permissible norms established by law. If they can be used in Europe, with its strict regulations, then there is no need to worry about the safety of such products;
  • The appearance of the products is standard, even the use of lamination does not make them exclusive, because the same profile is used for production;
  • Over time, the hardware requires adjustment or even replacement. For example, if the door does not open for ventilation, but otherwise works well, then adjustment is needed, but if there are problems in all modes, then most likely the mechanism or its individual parts need to be replaced. Also, seals may wear out over time, but replacing them is not a big problem.

Aluminum structures

This option is increasingly used on balconies due to several important advantages:

  • Constructions can be either cold or warm. If earlier aluminum doors (most often sliding) were used only on insulated balconies, then modern ones themselves perfectly protect from the cold and can be used in cold spaces;

  • Aluminum is not afraid of changes in humidity and temperatures, it is not afraid of precipitation, so such doors can serve for decades. This metal is not susceptible to corrosion, so there is no point in worrying about its safety;
  • Structures of the most different sizes, and the glazing in them is always solid, which improves appearance and allows you to see everything that happens outside the door;
  • The material does not burn, and also does not emit any substances harmful to humans, so it can be used in any premises without any restrictions;
  • Another important plus is the low weight of the structure, it does not create loads on the structure and is easy to install.

Now let's deal with the cons, they are as follows:

  • Aluminum has low sound insulation performance, which is why it is undesirable to use it in noisy places;
  • In terms of thermal insulation, this option is still inferior to both plastic and wood;
  • If scratches appear on the surface, it will be very problematic to remove them.

Types of structures

In addition to the material of manufacture, the doors to the balcony may differ in design, I will tell you about the main options, each of them is suitable for certain conditions, so there should be no problems with the choice.

Swing doors

This option is the most common and simplest, but there are many types of construction that have their own differences, let's deal with them:

  • The standard swing option is when the entire width of the doorway is closed with one sheet, which opens into the room in a direction convenient for you. The design can be different: they can insert glass from bottom to top, they can divide it into two parts and make one blind, it all depends on your preferences. If desired, an additional anti-mosquito door can be installed, which will protect the room from insects in the summer;

  • The second option is two-leaf design, one part of which is open, and the other is deaf. This reduces the cost of the product and simplifies the task of how to beat the opening: put two sashes of different widths, and the system looks much better than a huge door. In houses of the 50s, the dimensions of the balcony door are non-standard, therefore, it may be necessary to install a structure with additional glazing in the upper part so that the height of the leaf is standard;

  • If the width of the opening is large, then an excellent option would be to install a two-leaf option with an impost (this is the name of the lintel in the middle, to which the sash adjoins). This option is durable, but when moving the jumper creates interference, so this type of product is advisable to use only in cases when you use one sash, and the second is most often in a closed position;
  • The double-leaf door is different in that there are no jumpers between the leaves, one part of it is fixed at the top and bottom with special latches, which open if necessary. If necessary, the latch opens, and you get a large opening without any obstacles. This is a very convenient solution, but its cost is much higher than that of the above-described option with an impost;

Sliding systems

This option is suitable only for those who have a large opening and two or more sashes can fit into it. There are two main types of designs:

  • Portal doors, this design is also called a compartment by analogy with wardrobes. Its main feature is that two or more leaves are located on special guides. The movable part of the structure, if necessary, is pushed towards itself and moves to the side, everything is simple and reliable. In the highest quality models, the sash can be folded back for ventilation, it is very convenient and practical;

  • Another option is an accordion door, which was named so for the specifics of its opening: the doors fold like an accordion and stand on the side, freeing the opening. This option looks very impressive in large openings, and often the design is made of double doors - one part is opened in everyday use, and the second, as needed, is shown in the photo below.

At the end, I would like to add a few comments about the external fittings, so that you can open and close the door from the outside without any problems, and you do not have a situation when the door slammed, and you remained on the balcony.

There are several solutions to the problem:

  • You can put full-fledged rotary handles both inside and out, then you can open the structure from any side, and the problem of how to close the door from the outside will not stand at all. The disadvantage of this solution is that strangers can enter the house if they get to the balcony, in order to avoid this, I advise you to put a full-fledged structure with a lock on the outer handle, among other things, this will allow you to close the balcony from children;
  • The second option is to attach a magnetic latch from the outside, this is a very simple solution: a block with magnets is attached to one part of the structure, a metal bar to the second, even an inexperienced craftsman will not have any questions about how to install this element. For convenience, from the outside you can attach simple pento open the sash with it.

Output

Whichever option you choose, be it a glass balcony door, a multi-leaf structure or wooden version, it is important to purchase a quality product equipped with reliable fittings. The video in this article will tell additional information on the topic, and if something is not clear to you, then do not hesitate to write your questions in the comments under the review.

A double balcony door is by no means a new fashion trend. This is an alternative to conventional single doors, because they are found both in apartments and in country houses, and in office buildings.

Such doors received a special design, and hence the design and functionality that was different from other products.

Design and function

A double balcony door, unlike single doors, is equipped with two leaves. Usually one sash is responsible for opening and closing, while the other remains deaf. But sometimes both leaves get a mobile mechanism.

The first option is good because all the fittings are fixed in a blind sash - a strong support for the entire door. And in doors with two opening sashes for this task, shtulpny fittings are used to do without impost. Therefore, such designs are much more expensive.
