The design of the living room or bedroom is a top priority. Sometimes the kitchen is allocated time and money for arrangement. However, the bathroom is often forgotten. Especially when this room is very small. Why spend money if the situation is not corrected. Here lies big mistake. After all, the skillful design of the bathroom in Khrushchev will help visually increase the space, fit all the necessary elements, and make a room that you don’t want to leave.

Even a small bathroom can be turned into an island of comfort

Features of this design

The first, and, perhaps, the main difficulty that the designer faces is the dimensions. Rooms in Khrushchev do not differ in high ceilings and large quadrature. Many consider this a disadvantage. But our task is to turn these indicators into virtues by applying the appropriate tricks in interior design.

With the right approach, a small footage of the bathroom is not a hindrance to your plans

The main criteria that the premises must meet.

Bathroom design in Khrushchev should be extremely practical and stylish

Now let's take a closer look at the essence and methods of arranging a room so that it meets the stated criteria.

Different ways of arranging space

Since we have a small space, it will not be possible to fit both a shower cabin, a bathroom, and a linen closet at the same time. Therefore, you have to choose what exactly to place in the room. The main task is to fit all the necessary elements, while making a good finish. So, decide what is necessary for you.

With small sizes, you have to sacrifice some features

In fact, this room can only accommodate space for water procedures and several hooks for clothes and towels. However, the reality is somewhat different. And often you have to combine this room with a toilet, look for a place for a washing machine, place a sink and several cabinets. Consider how to optimize space in different ways.

Often in the bathroom it is necessary to place a toilet and cabinets

with washing machine

Often you have to think over the design of a bathroom in Khrushchev with a washing machine. Since the kitchen also does not differ in large dimensions, and the dressing room or laundry room is a luxury item that not every owner can afford, this item is located here.

In this case, the question of choosing a model is acute. First, it must be compact. This is the basic rule. So, small models are selected, which are then placed under the sink, in a wall niche or a pencil case.

Consider this option of installing a washing machine in the bathroom

There are also unusual modifications. For example, a washing machine flop. This pendant model that is attached to the wall. Often it is placed above the toilet, as it is combined with a drain barrel. This model is easy to use and economical. However, this novelty is still included in mass consumption, and therefore it is quite expensive.

Flop washing machine has a compact size and is installed on the wall

The next question is how to equip this item from a design point of view. Here much depends on the imagination of the author. Choose a model that matches the color of the general direction. Basically, washing machines are produced in white, gray and black. But you can order the product in the color you want. It is best to place it in a wall cabinet or niche. Then it will be possible to hide it, and not worry that it will affect the general appearance rooms.

With shower

Since the bathroom in Khrushchev has a limited amount of space, the most common option for arranging a water treatment area is a shower. There are many types of design here. The choice depends on the available budget, the style of the room and the color scheme.

A shower instead of a bath will free up some free space

Pick up a corner box with sliding doors. They may be oval or square shape. It is also possible to combine a shower cabin and a bathtub, when the pallet increases and deepens, and a hybrid is obtained. Often it is equipped with hydromassage and Jacuzzi function. This is the easiest way, as it does not require special installation skills. You just need to purchase a shower box, which will be installed by the master.

Super compact version with washing machine and shower cubicle

Another way is a fenced off shower. In this case, the pallet is cast (in the first case, it is made of acrylic or plastic), and the partition is installed separately. In this case, you will have to work harder with both the design and the arrangement of the shower room, but this option looks much better.

The capital version of the shower stall, fenced off from the bathroom

With bath

Some people cannot live without a bath. And in Khrushchev it is quite possible to place it. Of course, you will have to choose the most compact model, or give up some other elements.

The bathroom occupies most of the combined bathroom

Save space by choosing a small sink, and refusing a stand for it. You will have to remove the cabinets, or choose more compact ones, and there will be enough space for the bathroom.

Compact sink frees up some more space

You have two options - rectangular and round. Both types are suitable for bathroom design in Khrushchev. The color of the bowl can also be chosen at will, and order individual production. Unlike a shower, in this case you can use the space above the bowl by hanging cabinets or shelves there.

Align the sink and vanity

In general, both options have a right to exist, and they are quite convenient. The main task is to profitably beat every detail of the chosen design.

Color solution

Gamma is a fundamental factor in the future of the interior. The choice of style, color and configuration of furniture and appliances depends on this. For a bathroom in Khrushchev, it is better to use light shades, since the room is small.

Important! To visually enlarge the space, use light colors.

Light colors will add visual space to your small bathroom.

In view of this, we will consider the interior in bright colors. Both cold and warm shades are suitable. Best suited white, beige, green, blue. There is also yellow, purple, burgundy, but they go in combination with white or another calm base.

Universal white

It's versatile, and most suitable option for bathroom design in Khrushchev. After all, plumbing fixtures and bathroom furniture are often made in this color. It also makes an excellent base for bright accents. And, of course, he is able to make the interior light and bright, visually increasing the space.

White dominates in color solutions For bathroom

Choose every detail for this room, made in white. This applies to both technology and finishing materials. Add some other paint, like beige, pale blue, eucalyptus. So you get gentle and bright interior, and get rid of the hospital whiteness.

White is harmoniously combined with light tones of various colors.

On a note! To prevent the association of a white bathroom with a hospital room, add bright colors to textiles and decorations.

Also, white is an excellent background for highlighting bright details. Popular is the decoration of one wall (often free) in a contrasting color: red, bright blue, green, etc.

The wall behind the dressing table can be laid out with blue tiles

White is the king of the spectrum. Using it, you have a lot of design options. But do not forget about other, no less profitable, color schemes.

Design in beige tones

Another universal option. Beige will be a great background for other colors, but it also exists comfortably alone, creating an atmosphere of royal luxury. It is less flashy than white, and the room in beige tones will turn out to be more delicate.

Beige tones will make the bathroom a little warmer

Basically, beige is selected for finishing the floor, ceiling, surfaces and textiles. Plumbing remains done in white. But if you have the opportunity to find a beige bathroom bowl, it will only be better. With a shower cabin is easier. You can make walls and a pallet in a mosaic technique, made in beige tones.

Beige tones work well as a backdrop for more contrasting colors.

Contrasting combinations are not appropriate here, although such a solution also occurs. Beige goes well with blue, green, black, coral. But it is better to combine it with adjacent tones: brown, mustard, golden, milky, ivory.

In the bathroom, combine beige with close tones of other colors.

Adding cool tones

Blue and green are great for creating designs in a cold direction. Light shades of this color can make the room fresh and spacious. Often they are combined with other light colors.

Light brilliant green combined with white and natural light will fill the bathroom with marine shades.

So, blue and green are suitable for decorating walls, floors and textiles. You can also choose furniture in green tones. If you try, you can find plumbing, made in blue. To change its color, use an adhesive film for decoration as an option.

Blue goes well with white, gray, gold, black and brown flowers. It is suitable for the style of minimalism, Scandinavian and Mediterranean.

White bathroom with blue and green accents

Light green also coexists perfectly with white. For a contrasting combination, use black. Add floral ornaments on the wall, glossy tiles for flooring, and you will get an eco-style bathroom design in Khrushchev. It also supports the idea of minimalism "nothing more", so it is great for a small room, and its light colors can visually enlarge the space and make it fresh and bright.

You can make a small bathroom both cold and soft. Most importantly, choose light colors to create a general mood.

We select details

We have identified the main components and colors. Now it remains to complement our design with various details. What else matters? It remains only for you to choose.

Furniture

Certainly, coffee table, or a wardrobe in the Khrushchev bathroom will not fit, but some necessary furniture will be able to accommodate. What is this necessary furniture:

  • Mirror. A mirror is a must. It can be placed above the sink or on a free wall. Choose the configuration and size yourself, depending on the availability of other parts.
  • Wardrobe for small things. It is usually placed near the sink. It is intended for storage of bathing accessories and a subject of personal hygiene. Its size doesn't matter. The main thing is that the maximum perform its direct function.
  • Closet for household chemicals. Often all three of the presented details are combined with a washbasin. So, you can pick up a set consisting of a sink, the upper part is reserved for a small cabinet and a mirror, and at the bottom there is a cabinet for household chemicals, which also hides the pipes leading to the sink.

The mirror will visually double the size of the bathroom.

A wardrobe or a laundry basket often does not find a place in such small room. Therefore, you have to choose what to give preference to. The main task is to place everything compactly, functionally and beautifully.

Textile

Textiles play an important role, both practical and design. There must be a bath, a towel for the face, and for hands. Based on this, you need to purchase a towel ring or hooks. It is advisable to find a place for a heated towel rail.

From a decorative point of view, textiles play the role of bright accents. With it, you can dilute the monotony of white, or bring a cold current into the room. There may also be a dressing gown, matched in color to the rest of the textile elements, which will become a convenient and functional solution.

Choose textiles based on the principle of stylistic unity in color or pattern

Accessories

A small space does not allow fantasy to develop in this direction, but the design of a bathroom in Khrushchev cannot be completed without the appropriate accessories. These include unusual lamps, paintings and floor decorations.

Add unusual and elegant accessories to your bathroom interior

The best way to implement these details will be a tile with an ornament or pattern. Add some decorations to the shelves maritime theme, make decoupage or mosaic on the wall. Perhaps this is all that dimensions will allow. But by intelligently combining colors and embellishments, you will be able to create a beautiful design even on small space Khrushchev apartments.

Watch a video with examples of bathroom design

Probably, a third of the residential buildings in the city are occupied by Khrushchevs. These are specially designed projects, the apartments of which are in Soviet time distributed to the working class. What is happening to them today. Some problems, according to the new owners. And the whole problem comes down to planning and arrangement. One of the most basic problems is the design of the bathroom in Khrushchev - a small room where there is a choice between a sink and a washing machine. See the video and photos below for examples.

Foundation from the foundations!

Many experts believe that bathroom design can please with its simplicity through the use of some tricks. So, for example, you can resort to some recommendations of specialists in saving space:

1. To begin with, change the standard bath to a corner or shower.

2. You can use the installation of a drain system and the installation of a tiled ledge instead of standard plumbing.

3. You can also fork out a little and get a special sink system with a washing machine built into the bottom. Yes, such washing machines have a small load, but they will fit favorably into the design of the bathroom in Khrushchev. Examples of this can be seen in the photo and video in the article.

If you do not resort to the method of connecting the bathroom, then when shaping the interior, it is better to give preference to light-colored wall and ceiling cladding. The presented “whiteness”, as designers advise, can be diluted with a dark or bright spot in the form of stripes or borders when using tiles. As for the use of other materials in the interior of the bathroom, it is better to focus on the attractive designer ceiling and floor with light walls. For creative ones, the use of floor tiles with a 3D image is suitable, as in the photo and video in the article.

Pay attention to plumbing and approach this issue competently. With light cladding using bright spots, bright colors look great. acrylic bathtubs and sinks with extra shimmer. Gold-plated plumbing fixtures can also be installed to them if they match the color scheme. This bathroom design in Khrushchev will attract the admiring glances of guests and give an excellent atmosphere for your own relaxation.

Do it yourself

A small bathroom can be smartly decorated in nautical style if light tiles are used on the walls. The interior of the bathroom in Khrushchev in a marine style is created as follows:

1. The ceiling and floor should be done in a blue tint - the ceiling is lighter and the floor is darker. You can create something on the floor of sea pebbles.

2. Let stickers or applications depicting fish and shells be placed on the walls.

4. Hang a homemade wooden anchor over the bathtub or shower, coated with a special antiseptic and moisture barrier.

Instead of an anchor with children, you can create a foam lifeline, which is then painted and signed with the names of household members. With a creative approach, you can stretch a self-woven network of twine on the ceiling. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Lighting

A bright and small bathroom does not need bright lighting. The design of a bathroom in Khrushchev may involve the location of several spotlights on the ceiling. But the area above the sink can be supplemented with lighting in the form of a lamp location. Mirrors with built-in lighting also look great. In a small bathroom, it can accentuate the entire interior design.

Well-known designer Arseny Lebedev is of the opinion: "Design should be simple, but not primitive." This statement is quite suitable for the presented theme of bathroom design in Khrushchev.

Renovation is no easy task. In the case of small-sized housing, everything is complicated by small sizes, and in old houses, the problem of worn-out engineering networks. Their replacement is also the concern of the owners, since it can take a long time to wait for the management campaign to change them. So the repair of a bathroom in Khrushchev usually begins with the replacement of old risers.

A distinctive feature of Khrushchev apartments is the small size of all rooms. The bathroom and toilet are so small that even the minimum set - a bathtub + a sink - becomes only compact. Finding a place to install household appliances is a difficult task. The most popular solution is, which almost always affects the bath and toilet. From two microscopic rooms they make one - a combined bathroom. Due to the fact that the partition is removed, the area increases by almost square meter which is very important under these conditions. In some cases, it turns out to increase the space due to the corridor or a closet located nearby. This renovation of a bathroom in Khrushchev is technically more difficult and it is more difficult to get permission for such an alteration, but everything is possible.

The procedure for repairing a bathroom in Khrushchev

If you decide to do overhaul bathroom in Khrushchev, the order of work will be almost identical with and without redevelopment. When redevelopment, the destruction of the partition is added, the transfer of the door, the laying of an unnecessary doorway. Further, everything is like a carbon copy.

  • delete everything Decoration Materials. If the walls and ceiling are crooked (differences of more than 3 cm) or there are voids under the plaster (the sound is dull when tapped, movement is felt when pressed), the plaster is also upholstered.
  • Decide what kind of plumbing Appliances where it will stand, draw a plan to scale. On the plan, draw the supply of electricity, water, sewerage.
  • Lead to the bathroom.
  • Replace water and sewer risers (requires approval from the managing organization). Most often old metal pipes change to plastic. When replacing a water pipe, use or.
  • If the water supply and sewerage are hidden, they make a small depth under them, since there will still be plaster on top. If not, the wiring of the water supply and sewer pipes is done upon completion of the wall decoration.
  • Pour the leveling floor screed. It can be “rolled up” (water in high-rise buildings is allowed only if there is individual heating, and then if the floors can withstand the load).
  • Wall and ceiling decoration. Here the sequence of work is different - it depends on the chosen method of finishing and plumbing. If , installation occurs at this stage. They do it at the same time. When installing standard plumbing, it is installed upon completion finishing works, so first put in order half-walls, ceiling.
  • Installed plumbing and household appliances.

There are more and more options for finishing materials. For example, you can lay or on the floor in the bathroom. In this case, a layer of self-leveling compounds is needed on top of the screed - to obtain a solid and even base, and the coating itself is laid last after all work is completed, but before installing plumbing. In general, the order of work during the repair in the bathroom of Khrushchev can vary significantly.

We increase functionality

Repairing a bathroom in Khrushchev is difficult not so much from the technical side, but from the point of view of creating a beautiful, functional and comfortable room. The small size of the room is the main difficulty. Have to look non-standard solutions in the selection of appliances, plumbing and furniture.

Bathtub or shower

During the renovation of a bathroom in Khrushchev, a bathtub is often abandoned in favor of a shower cabin. This allows you to carve out a place in a small room for installing a washing machine. The most successful solution is a corner shower. In this case, a fairly decent piece of space is released in which you can put a washbasin or washing machine.

One option is to put a shower with a deep tray or just install glass doors on the bathroom.

If you still want to lie in the bathroom from time to time, you can compromise - with a deep tray. But it is worth remembering that high sides are not very convenient for daily use if there are small children or the elderly. Why are they worse than a regular bath? The fact that it will not be possible to fully rely on them is plastic, and it will not withstand heavy loads.

Make the bathroom in Khrushchev more comfortable - the sink can be installed above the washing machine

Until you get used to it is not very convenient to use the sink - it is installed a little higher than usual, but much more convenient than if you put a small one to save space. This, by the way, is also a way out, but not the best.

Design and design tricks

In order for the renovation of the bathroom in Khrushchev to be not only functional, but also beautiful, we correctly select finishing materials, their color and texture.

Use every centimeter - that's the challenge

Finishing materials and their color

Bathtubs Khrushchev bathrooms are not only small, but the ceilings in them are low. Because suspension systems if installed, then only at a minimum distance, and this can be achieved by installing wall lights or recessed ceiling lights, but on LEDs that have a thickness of about 3-5 cm. This loss will be almost imperceptible, and the work will be much less than with and subsequent his putty.

It is not necessary to lay tiles on the walls at all. In this case, a smaller mosaic looks even better, as a large tile "reduces" the room. More options for wall decoration in a small bathroom - painting and finishing decorative plaster. Bathroom paints create an equally reliable coating, but this option costs less money, especially if you will putty the walls for painting yourself. there is also moisture resistant, but this type of finish looks modern.

In any case, the ceiling and walls in a small bathroom should be made in light colors, preferably with a slight gloss or mother-of-pearl, silk sheen. This finishing option makes the room visually more spacious. Most often these are shades of beige. A very unobtrusive and democratic color that can be revived with some details of brighter colors.

Another trick is that the walls are plain and only approximately in the middle there is a wide strip of a brighter or contrasting color. This technique "pushes" the walls, the room seems larger than it really is.

The choice of plumbing

If, when renovating a bathroom in Khrushchev, you decide to replace the bathtub with a shower cabin, refuse to install a finished cabin. Even the smallest one takes up a lot of space, and plastic walls heavily load the space. You literally feel like you don't have enough space. Make a pallet of tiles and put glass partitions— more practical solution. Doors can be made sliding - there are a sufficient number of systems that are easy to install with your own hands, and for masters this is not a problem at all.

Colors are light vertical stripes break the monotony, but the highlight of the interior is a bathroom and a sink of a non-standard shape. They complement each other perfectly and are easy to use.

When choosing a sink, try to find the option that best fits into your interior. They are different forms, sizes, colors. There are wide and narrow, deep and shallow, angular - in the form of a sector, such that are partially located above the bath. In general, there are many options. Yes, they cost more standard solution, but if possible, pick up beautiful and comfortable plumbing.

Do-it-yourself bathroom renovation in Khrushchev: photo report

Apartments in Khrushchevs are usually inherited or bought by young families. Their condition is usually deplorable, if repairs were made, then 20 years ago. Here, in this apartment, the bathroom looks “not very good”.

Raw material

This bathroom renovation in Khrushchev is traditional - tiles on the floor and walls, the ceiling is made of PVC panels. It all starts with the removal of all finishing materials.

The next stage is the alignment of the walls with plaster (without beacons, since the walls are relatively even). A screed is poured on the floor.

A perfect surface is not needed - tiles will be laid

After setting the screed, laying the tiles on the floor begins. Lay it out diagonally. To make it easier, they first drew a plan on the floor (with a pencil).

After installation floor tiles engaged in the supply of water and sewerage, installed a bath and connected it.

After that, they began to lay tiles on the walls. This is not always the case. The second finishing option is to first lay out the wall with tiles, then put a bathtub, and seal the gap between the wall and the side. The second option is preferable, since at any time you can replace the bathtub or put a shower cabin. In the first case, everything will have to be redone.

After the walls were finished, they assembled a frame for false ceiling from plastic panels. Economy option, but later you can change to any more expensive one.

After that, only the little things remained - hang a mirror, install and connect a sink with a built-in cabinet.

And the finishing touches - a rod near the bath, a shelf and hooks.

In winter, unexpectedly, our forty-year-old Khrushchev house underwent a major overhaul. But still, as they say, whatever is done is for the better. Looking at how the plumbers changed the old cast-iron Khrushchev risers for polypropylene and PVC, I finally gathered my thoughts and realized that if I didn’t start a major overhaul in the bathroom and toilet now, I would never start it in this house.

Initial data and idea

The bathroom in my Khrushchev is separate. The dimensions of the bathroom in the light are 1520 * 1360 mm, but with certain manipulations they can be increased by 5-6 cm in each dimension, which I will discuss below.

The main idea of the new bathroom was to turn the tub 90 degrees and orient it along the far wall (opposite the front door). In my wife's opinion, this position is more rational, although we understood that we would lose ten centimeters in length.

Preparatory work

I took about two weeks to prepare for the immediate start of work in the bathroom in order to decide on the project of the future bathroom: draw up plumbing and sewage, ventilation, tile laying, etc.

So, what is a bathroom in a typical panel Khrushchev? In fact, this is just a cabin, which was cast somewhere at the DSC and already assembled in its place in Khrushchev during construction. The walls of the cabin have a meager thickness of 3-5 cm and they are made of reinforced gypsum concrete. The material is very weak and easily crumbles with a perforator or even a hammer. In the figure below, the walls of the “cabin” are shaded and, as we can see, they are adjacent to two load-bearing walls of the Khrushchev, in one of which (between the kitchen and the bathroom) there are ventilation shafts.

In repair practice, the most common option is the demolition of the Khrushchev partition between the toilet and the bathroom, which allegedly makes the bathroom more spacious and there is a lot of extra space. However, in my opinion, this is the most common misconception: no matter how much I tried to hypothetically design such a “spacious” combined bathroom in my Khrushchev, nothing came of it.

As I already said, the dimensions of the bathroom in my Khrushchev in the light are 1360 * 1520 mm. On the long side, we had a 150 cm bath, which we decided to replace with 140 cm and put it on the short one. For this, from the existing sizes, I lacked 4 cm, which I decided to get by demolishing the bathroom wall adjacent to the Khrushchev's load-bearing wall with ventilation shafts. This "gypsum board" was smashed with an ordinary mason's hammer in just three to four hours. The hardest thing was to endure almost two full baths construction waste. The reinforcing mesh is neatly cut with a grinder.

Alas, I can’t demonstrate the old, pre-renovation view of the Khrushchev’s bathroom, but believe me, everything was very sad there.

I warn you that by demolishing the wall of Khrushchev, you deprive ceiling one point of support. It is composed of the same gypsum concrete and is part of a solid "cabin". It can also be dismantled, but I decided to simply strengthen the bathroom ceiling by supporting it with a 40 * 50 mm beam and 10 * 100 mm dowels - this is quite enough.

Two of the four walls in the Khrushchev bathroom turned out to be crooked, with a blockage of up to 3 cm, so I had to deal with their alignment.

After I repaired the kitchen and corridor in my Khrushchev, I already had some plastering skills, but in the bathroom I decided to use a different method of leveling the walls, which I really liked as a result. Holes are drilled in the wall in several rows, self-tapping screws are screwed in, the heads of which are set according to the level and thus the reference points of a new, even and strictly vertical plane are obtained (in the first picture below, you can see the screws sticking out of the wall on the right). We prime the walls and wait 1.5-2 hours. Next, we take slabs of moisture-resistant drywall 1500 * 600 mm, which ideally fit the dimensions of our wall in Khrushchev (1520 mm) and are “glued” to the wall with a special adhesive solution for drywall. Unlike plaster, the adhesive composition hardens faster (up to 20 minutes), so the plates do not slip. The composition is applied with "buns" every 15-20 cm, on which the GKL plate lies and is tapped with a mallet or pressed with a rule so that the plane of the plate coincides with the plane of the previously set self-tapping screw heads.

The joints between the plates are sealed either with the same composition, or simply with plaster. The time for leveling the wall takes only 20 minutes, that is, exactly as long as the adhesive composition diluted in the bucket hardens.

Try to move 120 kilograms from the spot, and then take it out so as not to bomb half the apartment in Khrushchev (already repaired, by the way). I've been looking at youtube videos like this cast iron bathtubs cut with grinders, drill with drills, even smash with pound weights! (cast iron is a brittle material and can be chipped/broken). However, my wife's uncle stopped me in time and said that all these baths are easy to endure if everything is done correctly and skillfully.

While the uncle was at the entrance to the house, I managed to loosen the bath in one face, put it on the priest and remove the legs. Thresholds were covered with thick rugs, and soft tourist rugs were laid on the path of our movement from the apartment. In such a vertical position, we carefully carried the bath to the landing of the Khrushchev building and, further up the stairs, carried it outside without any problems. On this day, our apartment lost the last native element - the old Soviet cast-iron bath.

So, now I have nowhere to wash in Khrushchev, so I need to act quickly and efficiently so that the new bath is in place at least in three or four days. The first thing to do is plumbing and sewerage.

Water supply and sewerage

I changed the old cast-iron sewer in Khrushchev a year earlier, now I just had to change the layout of Khrushchev PVC pipes and do one very time-consuming piece of work - chasing the wall for sewerage and water supply in the future place of the sink (in the picture - this is on the right).

Shtroblenie bearing walls Khrushchevs are not a good thing, and it is doubly bad if they are ditched horizontally and not vertically. But on construction forums and a number of sites there was information that if the depth of chasing does not exceed a third of the thickness of the Khrushchev wall, then this type of work is still possible, or as the builders put it simply, you can chasing to the first reinforcement, no further.

Armed with a powerful puncher and a grinder with diamond disc on concrete, I started this dirty work. Of the means of self-defense, it is imperative to have a respirator, goggles and gloves.

It took me a total of 4 hours to complete. The depth and width of the strobe is such that it is possible to install a sewer pipe with a diameter of 32 mm into it. Be sure to provide a slight slope of the pipe (5 degrees) on a horizontal section to ensure water flow. We remove the sewer pipe from the strobe using angled elbows (at 45 degrees) and put an adapter from a diameter of 32 mm to 50 mm (the main diameter of the sewer). This part of the sewer will already be hidden by the bathroom (blue mark on the wall), so there is no need to deal with further chasing.

We assemble the sewerage following the same rule - the slope towards the riser should be about 5 degrees so that the water does not stagnate in the pipes, but flows normally.

Little trick: in order to pvc pipes easily docked, lubricate them with liquid soap.

This is the wiring left behind by plumbers who changed the riser in the house.

I don't know if it could be done somehow more practical and easier? I think it was possible. Two polypropylene ball valves (32 mm) and a jumper between them are not a basic option. I asked the plumbers to make such a design so that I could install the heated towel rail myself, without involving anyone. Without a jumper, during the installation of a towel, I would have to leave my entire Khrushchev without hot water.

I drew a diagram of the future plumbing and sewerage of the Khrushchev bathroom on a piece of paper. It is necessary, including in order to correctly calculate the number of fittings and pipes needed to be purchased.

With such a scheme, I went to the construction market, once again consulted with the seller and bought everything I needed. From him, from the seller, I took a special soldering iron for a week for polypropylene pipes. I had no experience with such a tool, but I saw how plumbers do it, and YouTube is always at hand. For training, before the main work, I took a couple of extra couplings to indulge in - the soldering process is quick and not complicated at all.

What you need to know when installing a water supply system from polypropylene pipes:

Pipes come in a variety of diameters, but 16 mm (1/2 inch) pipes are most commonly used for water supply, and 32 mm (1 inch) for towel warmer pipes.

Pipes are available separately for hot and cold water supply. Pipes for hot water have internal reinforcement, which is visible on the cut (red).

The sellers may say that the water in our pipes is not so hot, so you don’t have to worry and install the same pipes for cold water supply, but in this case, depending on the temperature, they can and will definitely deform (stretch), which can be quite unpleasant. For example, in my case, plumbers who changed risers during the overhaul of Khrushchev managed one type of pipe (for cold water) and when hot water began to circulate in the system, then these pipes simply spread out and my jumper became crooked (look at the photo of the toilet above).

It is possible to solder pipes in one person, but it is more convenient to do it together: one holds a soldering iron, and the second puts fittings on it, heats it up and joins it. My wife helped me to solder the pipes - it was the best March 8 for her)).

It is better to collect small elements and assemblies separately and then dock them to the main water supply. The picture above shows the nodes that will “go” to the kitchen: outlets for the kitchen faucet and outlet for the washing machine.

The pipes are cut with special scissors, but if they are not there, then this can be easily done with a grinder or a hacksaw, in which case you just need to process the edges of the pipes with sandpaper or the same grinder so that there are no notches and the cut is even.

The soldering iron must be heated to operating temperature. We tightly fit the fittings on both sides of it, which must be connected, count to 8 and then quickly remove the fittings and evenly join. The most important thing in this matter after the docking has taken place is in no case to correct or turn the fittings, even if they are not docked exactly as you would like. Such a loose connection can then leak.

It is also necessary to control that the pipe enters the fitting to a sufficient depth (determined by the inner boundary of the fitting socket).

Such a joint is considered ideal, where the rim / ring of molten polypropylene evenly bends around the pipe. Under no circumstances should you cut it!

Well, in general, and all the main recommendations. I don’t know if it’s right or not, but I soldered my plumbing in Khrushchev from the kitchen to the riser in the toilet, and not vice versa. It took me a whole day to dismantle the old and install a new water supply and sewerage system in Khrushchev. Plastic plugs (red in the photo) are screwed into the outlets for the faucets, so far there is only water in the kitchen. We turn on the water, open the faucet in the kitchen and check the system for leaks. Luckily, no leaks were found.

Another point regarding the piping to the mixers. For a washbasin faucet, the distance between the pipes does not have special significance, because the eyeliner will be made with flexible hoses, but the bathroom faucet has a fixed distance between the nozzles - 150 mm. Therefore, the distance between the centers of the fittings that are connected to the mixer must be exactly 150 mm. If you didn’t guess a couple of millimeters, then it’s okay - you can then adjust it with the help of “ducks” (special sleeves on which the mixer nozzles are screwed).

The next stage of work is laying tiles on the floor. I decided to veneer the entire floor of the Khrushchev, including under the future bathroom: the overpayment is insignificant, and the effect is much more pleasant.

I did not do any preliminary leveling of the surface, any self-leveling floors, etc. The rough floor of the Khrushchev in the evening was treated with the Ceresit CT16 coloring primer, and the next day in the morning my wife's uncle arrived - he is our tiler. He laid the floor under the level, and the irregularities were corrected by the thickness of the adhesive solution.

Tile "Keramin". Manhattan Collection (gray). We laid the same tiles two years earlier in the corridor and kitchen of our Khrushchev. We decided that everything in our little Khrushchev should be done in the same style - no Gzhel and gypsyism, which for quite a long time annoyed the facing uncle.

The tile left over from that repair lay in place under the bath, as you can see, it differs in tone from the new tile purchased.

After the glue had dried the next day, I hollowed out a niche in the gypsum concrete wall, which will be located above the bath and is intended for shampoos and other small bottles. Alabaster grabbed the water pipes in the gate and then plastered everything. Didn't do this before tiling because I had to adjust to the schedule of the tiler.

Bathtub installation and bathtub screen fabrication

While waiting for couriers with a new bathroom, I started leveling the second curved Khrushchev wall (wall with a door). The same slabs of moisture-resistant drywall were used, the joints between which were smeared with plaster. The corners that are visible in the frame were intended for attaching shelves to them for the entire width of the wall (for basins, etc.). In the course of the work, the tiler suggested a slightly different way of manufacturing and fastening such a shelf (I will describe it later).

I also brought out a socket with several degrees of protection (a special socket for bathrooms) and soldered pipes for a heated towel rail. Later, it will remain to screw the corner brass “Americans” into them and hang a “towel” on them.

Finally, the new bath has arrived. Be sure to arrange an inspection of the product together with couriers on the street, after which they bring it into the apartment and put it on the priest in the bathroom.

Here it is necessary to start a conversation about the eternal: what kind of bath should be - acrylic, steel or cast iron? You can argue and argue endlessly, but I will not do this, because this is the topic of a separate article. Personally, I liked the German steel bathtub Kaldewei Saniform Plus 140 * 70. Is steel noisy? Poor temperature control? Calm down dear, all this is not about her. There are steel bathtubs on sale with a wall thickness of 2 and even 1.3 mm, and this one has a record 3.5 mm. I read a bunch of negative and sometimes horrific reviews about modern cast iron baths, about the unsatisfactory quality of the casting, about how the enamel begins to turn yellow after just a month or two of operation ... Kaldewei Saniform Plus turned out to be the only bathroom that was not mentioned negative feedback but on the contrary, the owners were happy with everything. So I bought it and did not regret it.

I made the installation of a 40-kilogram bath in one person, without assistants, which could not be done with a cast-iron product. I installed a siphon / semi-automatic device on it, put the legs,

and then carefully placed it on the floor. Two levels lay on the sides of the bath (long and short), on which, with the help of adjustable legs, I installed the product strictly horizontally. No bullying towards the drain!!! Absolutely all bathtubs have a bottom slope, which provides a normal flow of water. To eliminate the slightest staggering, the bath must be wedged: wooden wedges are hammered between the wall and the side.

A noise test showed that the noise of falling water in this bath differs little from what was in the old cast iron one. If you continue to be skeptical about this business, then buy a couple of sheets of car soundproofing and glue them to the bottom and sides of the tub.

Now that the bath is wedged and does not stagger, you can start making the screen. To start with the general points:

If you really want to do good repair, then refuse any purchased screens under the bath.

The screen under the bathroom should be tiled - this is both beautiful and hygienic.

Forget about the last century and in no case do not make these miserable niches for the legs. Previously, when they washed in basins or in the bathroom, they may have been needed by the housewives, but today we live in a century washing machines, so what for these useless niches.

The screen should provide emergency access to the pipes, so a small part (near the siphon) should either be left open or laid with a piece of tile, which, if necessary, can be easily removed. It is not at all necessary to install inspection hatches made of steel or plastic.

And yet, make the screen strictly vertical, do not experiment with any inclined surfaces. They can easily spoil the geometry of the room.

Well, now let's start making a screen for a bath with our own hands. For the screen frame we need steel profiles 27*27 mm for drywall. According to YouTube videos, I made a preliminary markup under the bathtub (at the bottom left of the frame you can see pencil marks and a long line for the entire length of the bathtub). In general, markup is done like this:

From the side of the bathtub on the wall, we draw a vertical line along the level to the floor - this is the first notch on the floor.

From the first notch, we retreat deep into the distance equal to the width of the bent edge of the bathtub rim and put the second notch.

From the second notch, we retreat a distance equal to the thickness of the tile and the adhesive layer (third notch) and, finally, we retreat another 12 mm (gypsum board thickness) and get the fourth notch.

The fourth notch will be the edge of our steel frame for the bathtub. With the help of a level and a ruler, we retreat the resulting distance on the other side of the bath. We draw a straight line between the serifs. On it we will fix the profile.

The steel profile is cut with a grinder, to stiffen the structure, two profiles are folded and twisted with self-tapping screws. To save myself from the unnecessary drilling of holes in the Khrushchev floor, I glued the lower profile with silicone sealant. The most important thing in this matter is to first reliably degrease the surfaces to be glued with white spirit or acetone. Then we apply silicone sealant and strongly press the profile to the floor. In about an hour and a half, it will almost not be torn off the spot. The upper profile is glued to the side of the bath in the same way. Bars can be inserted into the gaps between the bathtub and the profile, again to stiffen.

The vertical ribs near the wall already need to be planted on dowels (you can’t do without drilling here), and the middle vertical ones - on self-tapping screws.

Before sewing up the space with a sheet of drywall, we put a ground wire on the bath (attached to the black ear on the left in the top photo).

Finally, a sheet of drywall takes its place with a cutout for access to the siphon under the bath. The dimensions of the cutout are 260x400 mm. Drywall is attached with screws to the profile. So, the manufacture of the screen for the bath in my Khrushchev is completed.

Room cladding

Again, in the evening, I primed all the walls and the screen under the bathroom with Ceresit CT19 primer-paint. When working with it, I strongly recommend that you carefully cover the bathtub with an old bedspread or sheet and immediately wipe off the primer if it gets on enamel or tile - it will be too difficult to remove it later, after drying.

On the stage preparatory work, I made a layout of tiles from the collections of Keramin "Manhattan" and the Italian Alta Ceramica (collection "La Petra di Volta". The apron in the kitchen is lined with Italian tiles and we are delighted with it.

The bathroom lining took two and a half working days. The most difficult job was in the diagonal laying of Italian tiles, but our tiler successfully completed the task.

The niche was eventually made not dark, as in the layout diagram, but light. The frame already shows the new Wassercraft faucet with a short spout, located not at the end of the bath, as usual, but on the side, so that it is convenient to regulate the flow of water without getting out of the bath.

And here is the shelf above front door already lined. It is made of two sheets of thin drywall (6mm) screwed with self-tapping screws to wooden frame(boards 100x18 mm). Basins and containers with clean towels are now stored on this shelf.

The wiring for the fan and hanging cabinet was pre-wired.

Well, this is how it happened. Upon completion of the work, even the wife's skeptical uncle melted - he really liked the result of our idea and his work. To the right, under the bathroom, there is a place for access to communications.

Installation of hanging cabinets and more

After all the seams were jointed, it was time to install the rest of the Khrushchev bathroom furniture. I liked the mirror cabinet from the Russian manufacturer Aquaton. All the small rubbish (deodorants, shaving products, wife's cosmetics) calmly fit into it, and there is even a place left. Visually, the locker practically does not eat up the space in the Khrushchev’s bathroom; because of the mirror, you can’t even immediately understand that this is a locker at all.

I bought a fan from the Spanish manufacturer Cataco - always with a cord. That is, the fan power is combined with the Khrushchev bathroom light switch, but it is always possible to turn off the device with this same cord.

The inspection hole was closed not with a poor hatch, but with a piece of tile, to which the reciprocal strips of furniture magnets were glued. The seam between the tiles was sealed with sealant in the color of the fugue. It turned out to be a seemingly monolithic screen under the bathroom, but in which case the sealant will simply be cut off, and the tile will be removed with a suction cup - access to communications is open.

Heated towel rail hung one of the last. In order not to damage the brass “Americans”, when tightening the threads, I recommend holding some thick rag between the key and the nut. Well, yes, the threads are packed either with tow and unipack, or with a thick Teflon thread. For greater reliability, I recommend that you also buy a few gaskets for an inch pipe (I forgot what material they are made of, but they are not pressed through like rubber).

I put water on the towel - everything is sealed. Again, lucky.

For a long time we could not decide on a hanging cabinet and a washbasin for the bathroom, but at the very last moment we found a wonderful product from AM&PM Like 80 cm. -for this unfortunate centime, you have to take the cabinet already. But as it turned out, 80 cm is the width of the washbasin, and it protrudes beyond the dimensions of the cabinet by 1 cm in each direction, so the width of the cabinet is 78 cm, which naturally suits us. Tyutelka in tyutelka, you can say))

The choice in favor of a hanging pedestal was because visually it is not as bulky as a floor pedestal. Plus, again, there is always access to the siphon under the bathroom (remember the revision hole). The picture also shows a socket with a protective screen.

Wassercraft faucet from the same series as on the bathroom - cute, angular as we like)) The sink has a bottom valve with a click-clack system (pressed - you can draw water into the sink, pressed again - flushed).

This is the room we got at the finish line of the main work.

Repair in the bathroom is a very responsible matter, but what about those who, in principle, cannot turn around in their tiny bathroom. How to design a small bathroom in Khrushchev, we will talk about this serious issue.

A small bathroom can bring a lot of problems: firstly, after purchasing and installing a number of products, from plumbing to furniture, the traffic inside the corresponding room, as a rule, becomes critically inconvenient;

secondly, many of our compatriots are settled in apartments with a combined bathroom layout, which prevents all family members from using the required area at the same time (hence the daily queues, scandals, discomfort); thirdly, the very fact of tightness indicates a poor status.

Well, it's really hard to use a cramped bathroom. And the point here is not that it is small: after the repair of the bathroom, our man got used to limiting himself to the traditional principles of arrangement. And the design of a small bathroom of 3 square meters is usually quite impressive.

Ways to increase space are usually expensive, but besides them there are available ways creating space in the bathroom, even if this space is felt only visually. You can arrange the design of a very small bathroom without big expenses, using little tricks.

The main thing is that thanks to these methods, it is not necessary to demolish the walls in order to expand the bathroom at the expense of adjacent areas. Consider the design of a small bath in Khrushchev photo:

1. Excess - away!

Nothing freshens up an interior quite like cleaning. Trite, but after all, as practice shows, various bottles, jars, buckets and even packages in the bathroom are a dime a dozen. Well, old things need to be thrown away urgently, and those that are relevant should be hidden in a secret department.

The latter can be arranged in the far corner of the room in the form of a closed hanging box with several shelves. Or how about a niche? A place under the bath (bath) is also suitable if it is tiled or paneled on the outside.

It is clear that things cannot be mixed. From here, buying multiple organizers makes a lot of sense. Design of a small bathroom 4 sq. M with niches that save space:

It happens that the “load” is an open socket or ventilation shaft, a trash box, a mop or a heated towel rail. Try to find a compact neat alternative or a new "place of residence" for them.

After removing the trash, it remains only to wipe the surface of the finish and products to a shine. Perhaps there is rust or rot somewhere. It is urgent to get rid of such a misfortune, because it not only spoils the look of the interior, but also literally poisons the air.

2. Emphasis on transparent objects

It's no secret that glass furniture can deceive the eye with its invisibility. From this it is clear why these products are in great demand today: when a transparent shelf is fixed to the wall, it seems that the bath accessories standing on it are hanging in the air.

If you finish the bathroom with glass tiles, the interior gets a gloss, which, in turn, distracts the eye from an urgent problem. By the way, the glass tile itself can have patterns or fragments of one 3-D plot. The design of a small bathroom in Khrushchev, let's look at such solutions:

The presence of glass in the interior can be supplemented with a shower cabin, a lamp, a door with panels or with one large glazing inside door leaf. Finally, if there are windows, then let them be decorated with light curtains or straight-line blinds. The sash can generally be made completely open and deaf, without fear for prying eyes. Glass with a reflective coating will help protect against the latter.

3. Mirror support

It is clear that not a single bathroom is complete without a mirror, which helps to put oneself in order. But what about tidying up the space?

Few people know that a vertical mirror optically increases the height of a room, while a horizontal mirror increases its length. The frame in our case will be superfluous, unless it is straight. The mirror also helps in lighting. Design of a small bath in Khrushchev photo of large and appropriate mirrors:

4. "Borderline" light

Many people know that spotlights, being built into the finish, do not load the interior. But few people know about the installation LED strips at the junction of the ceiling and walls. This technique optically enlarges the space, creating the illusion of open wide joints and sliding planes. Artificial light can also be arranged in dark corners. The design of a small bathroom of 4 square meters can be supplemented with just such ribbons:

5. Strength in balance

Although small rooms are recommended to be decorated with light materials, in fact, dark colors (purple, blue, emerald green, black) can also be safely resorted to. The design of a very small bathroom can be supplemented with rich color and only win.

The fact is that such a background is perfectly emphasized by light plumbing and furniture. If only the color balance is observed - the presence in the interior of no more than two fundamental colors (it is clear why today black and white interior and other similar "duets").

The role of an auxiliary element is perfectly played by metal and glass. The remaining bright multi-colored “notes” (liquid soap, toothbrushes, sponge, plant) are a decorative component that completes the design.

6. Only compact applications

In the pursuit of functionality, many forget about compactness, which, in turn, contributes to solving the problem of cramped housing. The design of a small bathroom of 3 square meters should take into account that all components should be compact.
