Peculiarities

A house made of timber with an attic extension has both advantages and disadvantages.

pros

To begin with, it is worth noting the arguments in favor of choosing houses from natural timber. The most important of them is the appearance. They look beautiful even if they are built by a non-professional craftsman. In addition, the wooden base goes well with the natural background - shrubs, trees and flowers.

Wood is an environmentally friendly material that has good sound and heat insulation properties. If you use natural wood for building or finishing a house, then it will be warm and cozy in it at any time of the year. Wood is a naturally durable material. So you can be sure that the building will stand for a long time, and its appearance will remain as attractive as it was immediately after the construction of the house.

And, of course, one cannot fail to note the fact that profiled timber is one of the most affordable materials. So, almost everyone can afford to build a house from it. A house with an attic is also economical profitable solution. After all, it will take a lot to build it less material than for the construction of a full-fledged second floor. In fact, such a house is not much more expensive than a regular one-story building.

Minuses

The beam also has significant disadvantages. The main one is that it is less durable than simple logs. The fact is that the structure of the annual rings is broken in the timber. But its strength can be increased using various antiseptics and special impregnations. Also, to increase the strength, the timber is sometimes tinted.

Also, despite the fact that the beam has decent thermal insulation, it is significantly lower than that of a log.

Another disadvantage is that the timber dries out over time. Because of this, a smooth and even wall is significantly deformed. But this too can be avoided. For this purpose, professionals use the longitudinal sawing technique, thanks to which the load on the wall is less, and it does not sag.

The problem with pests and rotting is also solved. But if the timber is not impregnated with special antiseptics, then there will be serious problems with the frame of the house. The same is true with fire resistance, which, of course, the beam does not initially differ from. But after proper processing, wood becomes less susceptible to fire.

Types of materials

To date, there are several main types of timber. Each of them has its pros and cons.

unprofiled

One of the most common types is unprofiled timber. There are no grooves on it, which can be called a minus.

The fact is that this feature complicates the installation process. And after finishing, cracks remain on the wall. Therefore, it is necessary to deal separately with the solution of this problem as well.

Because of this property, houses made of unprofiled timber, despite its cheapness, end up being quite expensive. The cost is affected by additional finishing and professional services. Caulking of cracks, however, is carried out a year after construction, so there is an opportunity to save up some money before moving on to the next stage of construction.

By the way, in terms of appearance, unprofiled timber is also not the best option. It does not look very attractive, which means that you will have to additionally deal with finishing the house both outside and inside.

When choosing an unprofiled timber, professionals recommend paying special attention to how long ago it was cut down. The fact is that the wood must be very well dried, so "fresh", wet timber is not suitable.

Profiled

Unlike the previous version, the profiled timber is very good and easy to process. Professionals advise buying it, even if it comes out a little more expensive. As a result, the construction can cost more budget than from a non-profiled counterpart.

At the same time, the material is much easier to fit due to the fact that it has special grooves. There are practically no visible seams left. But if this is necessary, they can be sealed with a high-quality porous sealant. Properly selected sealant is good because it does not make the house too stuffy. The building is well ventilated, and no additional ventilation is needed.

As in the case of unprofiled timber, you need to buy well-dried material.

If done right choice, then over time the walls of the house will not “shrink”, and the structure will not change its appearance. So it will be possible to deal with finishing immediately after the construction of the building and not wait additional months, or even years.

Glued

Such a high cost is due to the peculiarities of creating a bar. For its manufacture, boards of different thicknesses are used, which are glued and pressed. Glued laminated timber is very hard and, accordingly, durable. It is resistant to moisture and does not dry out over time.

When creating a house frame, the wall turns out to be even, with virtually no joints and seams. Therefore, it turns out to save on the seal. And the laying speed is much faster than in the case of profiled and non-profiled timber. True, there is a significant minus in this - the fact is that in such a project it is necessary to carry out ventilation separately, since due to the tight fit of the timber, the wall does not let air through.

Many consider glued beams not environmentally friendly. But it's not. Indeed, in its manufacture, high-quality PVA glue is used, which, unlike wood, does not harm health.

In general, to create a log cottage, you can choose any of the proposed materials. This allows you to do wooden houses varying degrees of difficulty and different price. Such country projects with a terrace and an attic are not only durable, but also beautiful both inside and out.

Projects

To date, there are many projects of houses made of timber. You can choose any option, focusing primarily on the size of the yard where the building will be built.

If the territory of the yard is small, then a small building will have to be erected. Here you can choose a building with dimensions of 6x7, 6x4, 6x6. Such houses are small, but at the same time they have enough space to accommodate all the necessary rooms. If you add such a building with a terrace, for example, then you get a building with a size of 6x9.

If the place allows, and a large family will live in the house, then you should not save on materials, it is better to build a building with dimensions of 8x8 or 9x9. Extra square meters will make the rooms bigger and more spacious.

However, it is worth considering not only the size of the building. Now attention is being paid to appearance buildings, because no one wants to live in a house that is not pleasing to the eye. A modern architectural building should be as thought out as possible both inside and outside. Here are some of the most popular project ideas.

7x8

7 by 8 meters is a medium-sized building. In such a country house it is convenient to live with a small family. The building is compact and inexpensive. True, the final cost in the end always depends on the configuration of the construction site invented by the owners.

To save money, you can abandon the excessive decor and opt for the simplest possible design. In such a house, there is enough space for a spacious living room with a kitchen on the ground floor. The attic floor can be taken under the bedroom, or divided into several smaller rooms.

If desired, you can slightly expand the space, giving preference to a 7x9 project. Even in appearance, such a building will not resemble a summer house or a “hunting lodge”.

8x9

A slightly more convenient and spacious house is 8 by 9 in size. It can be built from a bar 200 by 100 millimeters thick. Its length can reach up to ten meters. Using just such material, you can reduce the time of building a house. At the same time, the structure is quite rigid and durable.

Houses made of timber are good because they are cheaper, absolutely environmentally friendly, over time they do not crack, as, for example, in houses made of logs, they are quite functional. So, if you add an attic to the standard design, you can get an additional living room, playroom or office. At the same time, the size of the house can be very different. But it is necessary to think over everything at the design stage.

Advantages of a 6x6 timber house with an attic

Houses from a bar with parameters 6x6 - perfect solution For suburban area where the building area is usually limited. Such a house is compact, small-sized, but it can easily accommodate all the necessary premises for a comfortable summer holiday. With a one-story structure, the space under the roof can be equipped with an attic, which would act as a bedroom. But it starts with design. The simplest plan is below.

With a built-up area of 36 m 2 of living space, 40-46 m 2 is obtained. For walls and partitions, a profiled beam 100x150 mm is used, but 150x150 mm can also be taken. Flax jute fabric serves as a heater. The roof is gable or hipped. In this project, the attic room is designed for one bedroom, so the roof can be gable.

The result: a neat little, environmentally friendly wooden house. But this project does not include a bathroom, utility rooms and can only be equipped with a single-flight ladder. But it has a very spacious bedroom - 24 m 2.

A more complex project of a 6x6 house, with a bathroom, a hall and two bedrooms on the attic floor, may look like this.

Such a house is more functional, but requires more serious engineering and technical developments: water supply, sewerage, a good ventilation system and insulation. It is better to make the roof mansard, then the second floor will save more space and light. Cobbled houses of this type are well suited for summer cottages, where the family spends most of the summer time. They look simple, but at the same time elegant and modern.

Plans of houses from a bar 6x8 with an attic

Cobbled houses measuring 6x8 also have a completely different layout. Depending on the number of family members and the requirements for the future building, projects of houses from a bar with an attic can be quite ergonomic and simple, as in the project below.

To save space, it is recommended to combine all additional zones in one technical room. So in the bathroom you can install a boiler room. The locker room and dressing room are combined in the hall adjacent directly to the entrance. If both rooms are made small - 2.55 m, then there will be enough space for a small terrace.

On the ground floor there is a spacious kitchen, where you can equip a dining room and a living room. The attic is a large bedroom. The advantage of the house is a simple layout, the project itself is easily implemented within a few months. Both profiled and glued beams are used as the main material. The first is superior technical specifications. It is stronger, more durable and easier to work with.

The second type of project is a bit more complicated. Photo next.

Such a layout will be a good solution for a family with children or for those who are always happy to have guests. The bedroom on the ground floor can be easily converted into a guest room. And if one of the bedrooms in the attic is not useful, it can be converted into Gym, billiard room, game room or office.

If you supply the house with all the necessary engineering and technical elements, it will be suitable for operation in all seasons. The configuration of windows, roofs and the location of the central entrance can be selected individually.

If desired, the attic floor is complemented by a spectacular balcony, which gives more space, light and clean air. In the warm season, such a balcony will become good place for secluded relaxation. On the ground floor there is a small terrace, where you can also enjoy your time.

Advantage: cobbled houses do not require special foundation costs. With dimensions of 6x8, columnar or screw types are suitable, which are quickly mounted, but fully withstand the load.

House with parameters 7x8 and an attic

Building 7x8 from timber will cost almost half as much as brick or stone. The project below provides for a small vestibule, a kitchen-dining room of sufficient size and a living room on the ground floor. The attic is represented by two bedrooms and a large hall.

For the construction, a profiled beam 100x150 mm is used for strapping and 140x90 mm for the construction of walls. Edged boards 25 mm are suitable for the subfloor, 36 mm tongue and groove boards are suitable for finishing. The foundation is pile or screw. The roof can be made onduline. Total, at minimal cost, it turns out very beautiful, durable Vacation home. And the money saved will be useful for finishing work.

Models of houses with a central entrance look interesting, which can be decorated very interestingly at the final stage. The project of such a house is as follows.

An example of a 7x8 house made of profiled timber with an attic floor and a balcony.

The project of a 9x9 cobbled house with an attic

Houses of this type are designed depending on their intended purpose. It can be a spacious country cottage, a house for permanent residence or a beautiful summer cottage where you can relax with a big company. The purpose of the building will determine the number of rooms, their location, the availability of additional technical premises(boiler room, sauna, boiler room, bathroom, terrace, balconies, etc.).

The layout of the most unpretentious building.

The house has two spacious rooms on the ground floor and one on attic floors. As well as a terrace and a balcony. This model does not provide for any additional premises, so it is often chosen for the construction of simple summer cottages, without a kitchen and any engineering systems.

Everything is built quite quickly (2-3 months) and with minimal cost. The result is a very attractive building with a living area of 77.4 m 2 .

A more expensive project with a kitchen, a utility room, bathrooms, an office and 4 rooms, which are arranged at the discretion of the owners, looks like this:

In the end, the log house will look something like this. color scheme exterior finishes can be selected based on your own preferences.

The nuances of the construction of cobbled houses

At the planning stage of the future home, in parallel with the virtual placement of all rooms, the materials for the implementation of the project are also determined.

  1. What beam to use. Planed - the cheapest material, but its quality is low. Profiled - easy to use, creates a solid structure without cracks, does not dry out over time, is in the middle price position. Glued - expensive, but the most durable and not subject to deformation building material made of wood, usually coniferous.
  2. Foundation. For houses 6x6, 6x8 and 7x8, you can make a screw or columnar, but for sizes 9x9 it is better to put a tape
  3. Roof. It is best to use ondulin or roofing felt. And to make a reliable layer of sound insulation, no matter what material the roof is made of, wind or rain without a sound-absorbing layer will interfere with a good rest.
  4. If the house will be used in the cold season, it is worth laying high-quality thermal insulation. Waterproofing is mandatory in any case, as wood is hygroscopic.
  5. When creating a project, it is necessary to take into account how many people and what ages will live in the house. Elderly people need a bedroom on the first floor. Small children should sleep closer to mom and dad, but teenagers need personal space away from their parents, and this is where the attic comes in handy.
  6. The timber is not the most fireproof material, so it must first be treated with special refractory solutions.

Why do you need a house plan at all? Without it, it will not only be impossible to control the correctness of construction, the consumption of materials and compliance with the architectural design, if necessary, the house cannot be sold without project documentation, since it is actually illegal.
