If a person has a desire, basic skills, as well as a set simple tools, then a do-it-yourself baby bed is not a problem for him. Yes, you can buy ready-made furniture for your child. But there is an option to save money by making a bed for the baby yourself.

In this article we will tell you how to make your own crib for a child. preschool age and we will demonstrate step by step the whole process.

What should be a crib

Making a crib with your own hands must comply with the following rules:

  • only natural and environmentally friendly materials are used;
  • the bed has a reliable design;
  • devoid of potentially traumatic corners, protrusions, parts;
  • the surface is perfectly smooth, without roughness, chips;
  • corresponds to the parameters of the child;
  • completely eliminates the possibility of falling.

The advantages of making a bed with your own hands

The advantages of a handmade baby bed are:

  1. Confidence in the materials used to make the crib. In the case of store products, parameter information is not always available.
  2. The design is developed according to your own parameters and requirements.
  3. During the manufacturing process of the product, you can independently verify the strength, which is especially important in the case of children's jumps on the mattress.
  4. A handmade crib saves the family budget
  5. You get incomparable pleasure from furniture made for your child yourself.

Bed design options: choosing the right one

There are a large number of bed modifications, but let's focus on the most popular ones:

  • with and without sides;
  • loft bed;
  • transformer.

Below we will look at the process of making an ordinary baby crib on legs with a headboard and footboard with our own hands. An option without tweaks, does not imply particularly difficult work and does not take much time.

Also, having understood the principle of operation, you can, by analogy, make a crib for a newborn, toddler or child from 3 years old.

How to make a crib with your own hands

Before you start purchasing materials and tools for a baby bed made of plywood or other materials, you need to carefully think over the whole process of creating this piece of furniture, understand the main elements.

  1. Frame. The parameters depend on the size of the bed and, accordingly, the mattress used. The main material for manufacturing is a dry board.
  2. Lamels. The product supports the mattress and is a base in the form of lattice slats or plywood with ventilation holes.
  3. Sidewalls. Lattice or solid safety fences.
  4. Byltsa. They are made of solid wood, chipboard or plywood. The height at the foot is traditionally made lower than that of the headboard element.
  5. Legs. Can be made by yourself or purchased from a store. They are integral with the main structure or attached separately.

Drawings and diagrams

Start work by preparing a drawing, according to which the structure will be cut. Below we offer you options for ready-made drawings and diagrams that you can use.

To view the drawing in full size, right-click on the image and select the "open picture in a new tab" command.

Materials and tools

The outer parts of the bed, visible to the eye, are made of MDF. You can choose the wood based on the finances at your disposal. If the bed will often be moved or moved, it is worth giving preference to light wood species. A children's bed can also be made of plywood, which is installed on the frame. You will need edged and planed lumber in the form of a board and a bar, solid or in pieces.

You also need the following tool to work:

  • saw for woodworking;
  • milling cutter;
  • grinding machine;
  • drill;
  • corner;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • fasteners;
  • screeds;
  • screwdriver.

The first stage is the manufacture of legs

We start with the legs, making blanks from a bar. You can also contact the sawmill, ordering their manufacture there according to your size. 4 pieces of each length required.

Remember! In the headboard area, the legs of the bed are longer and shorter on the foot side.

We connect the blanks with glue and self-tapping screws.

The screws must be well sunk into the wood and covered with putty. After the product has dried, all unevenness and joints are sanded.

We begin work with the manufacture of legs. To do this, we take the blanks in pairs, glue them exactly and twist them with self-tapping screws.

These are ready-made crib legs. It remains only to putty.

Second stage - dowel holes

A groove must be made for mounting the backs. Its width is equal to 2.5 cm. Use a router or, if there is none, contact a joiner. It is easier to take dowels ready-made, while choosing a drill of the appropriate diameter.

Having previously measured the exact distance and level on the planks, drill holes for the dowels at the ends of the planks. Control the depth of the drill with the beacon attached to it.

The third stage - the headboard and foot of the bed

From a board 2.5 * 5 cm, boards of equal length must be cut to fill the headboard and footboard with them. Next, we insert them into the groove filled with glue.

We drill a hole in the leg, then mark the middle, attach and align the back. Then we mark the areas where the dowel holes will be drilled. We put a little glue in them and insert the back. The canvas should sit tightly, avoid crevices.

We attach the legs to the back of the bed.

The same process is duplicated on the other leg. If an unaesthetic joint is formed, it is masked with a board, fixing it on self-tapping screws.

Ready footboard and headboard

The fourth stage is the base for the mattress

We take two boards 5 * 10 cm along the length of the mattress, on the screws and glue we fix the bar, which is shorter by 10 cm. We drill holes closer to the edge. The hats should eventually be completely hidden.

Installation of bed slats

We cut the slats and, in 10 cm increments along the width of the mattress, attach them to the slats with an emphasis on two self-tapping screws. Holes for fasteners are covered with putty and subsequently sanded.

Fastening the crossbars

In the extreme slats, cutouts must be made for the legs of the crib.

The fifth stage - assembling the crib

Now we finally eliminate all defects in the wooden parts of the bed (chips, cracks, etc.) by sealing it with putty, then we grind it to smoothness.

The next step is priming and painting all parts.

All. It remains for us to connect the backs and the base under the mattress. Our crib, which we made for the baby ourselves, is ready!

For fastening, use furniture fittings that are sold in stores.

Baby crib decorating ideas

After finishing the main work, it's time to do the decor to give the bed a finished look.
The sides in terms of the implementation of the decor represent a wide field for action. The decoration can be an original ornament or pattern, a print with the image of your favorite characters. Using harmless acrylic or silicone paint in this case will allow you to add unusual touches.

You can upholster the product with a fabric for furniture, having made a pattern a couple of centimeters larger than the size of the parts in advance. The material is leveled to avoid bubbles and secured with a furniture stapler. This option will look harmoniously on the girl's bed with your own hands.

You can paint the crib with a special furniture paint that is safe for humans.

Coating the frame with varnish can also be attributed to finishing methods. For this, it is recommended to use products that dry quickly. All parts are sanded and polished.

So, we have analyzed the process of making a crib with our own hands. If something remains unclear and you have any questions, ask in the comments below. We will definitely answer them.

From the very first days, you want to surround your child with the best, safe, reliable, and most importantly, such that will serve, faithfully, for many years until the baby grows up.For this, as a rule, natural materials are chosen that are not capable of laying a "mine" for future oncological diseases, thereby protecting the child from the first days.

Parents always want their children to grow up in a healthy environment.

The crib is the first fortress of the baby. It is there that he sleeps, enjoys life, begins to learn the world, studying everything that surrounds him.But how can you be sure that the covering and materials of the baby bed are safe? Only by making it yourself.

It is very important to protect an immature organism from the harmful effects of the external environment.

Smart dads who have their hands in place know perfectly well- you can be sure of something only when you have tried it and made it yourself. This is the main advantage of the product. Why is that? Let's make a little comparison.

Factory Homemade
Benefits disadvantages Benefits disadvantages
Don't waste time - go, buy or order Not always quality material Do you know what is made of Manufacturing is laborious, time consuming
No guarantee of structural reliability Reliable design - checked by myself
Coverage, not always, high quality High-quality coating - I selected it myself
Often the surface of the product is not finished The surface is thoroughly cleaned - after all, the child will "crawl" on it

If you have certain skills, you can make a bed with your own hands.

Design and construction of a crib

The cosiness of the room depends on the appearance of the child's bed, how the child will like it, its convenience and rational distribution of living space.

Thus, design and construction are interrelated.

We all want something original and unusual, unusual for everyday life. But let's be realistic. Why make life difficult with the fanciful design of a baby bed in the form of a car, airplane, elephant or steamer, if they are difficult to make? In addition, if there is no specialized tool such as a thickness gauge, milling machine CNC, band saw and other? By choosing this design, you can ruin all the wood without achieving what you want.

Let's dwell on a classic crib without frills and tricks, which, although difficult, but quite realistic to make from solid wood, with your own hands.

The best material for a baby bed is solid wood

Wood is the most preferred material, it has no contraindications, it is absolutely inert. While chipboard, fiberboard, OSB, MDF and plywood contain fillers that have a detrimental effect on the body, as well as poorly tolerate mechanical stress.

Wooden furniture is always a noble, natural and cozy accent in the interior.

The main feature of all the listed materials that negatively affect the use is the presence in the composition of formaldehyde, a chemical compound used in medicine for disinfection.As you can see, we advise you to choose solid wood. Required condition - well dried. Do not use raw boards, they will look around, do not have time: the structure will come apart, the material will crack and twist. It is optimal if the wood has dried on shelves for three to four years, in a shaded, sheltered from moisture place.

But if there is none, then a tumble dryer will do.

In addition to the boards you will need:

  • Self-tapping screws, bolts (for fastening parts);
  • Metal corners (add additional rigidity to corner joints);
  • Beam, slats (for a mattress stand);
  • Lamellas - flexible planks 15-20 mm thick, made of hard wood (oak, acacia).

Before starting a project for making a crib, you need to purchase materials.

Tools are a reliable assistant to the master

The complexity of the work depends not only on the design of the product and materials, but also on the availability of tools. Having in your arsenal a real carpentry workshop, you can easily make any product. But what if there is nothing but a garage and a workbench? Can I get to work?

No problem! Any man has everything that is necessary. And we need:

  • Drill, with a set of drills for wood;
  • Plane for stripping wooden blanks;
  • Hacksaw for cutting;
  • A set of groove files.

A necessary set of tools, without which the entire project of work will be impossible.

The presence of a manual milling machine will greatly facilitate the work of assembling a crib, but if it is not there, we will manage with the listed ones.

The use of a hand router makes work easier.

Some features of joinery

To make the furniture reliable, special joinery connections are used in its manufacture. Unlike the usual nail or self-tapping fasteners, such fasteners are more resistant to loosening, do not "fall apart", they are well resistant to mechanical damage.

The main task of choosing a connection method is decorativeness, the desire to make it beautiful and invisible.

Such a connection consists of a blind or through groove and a shank that freely fits into the groove. Fasten them with wood glue. The size of each groove and shank is selected individually, based on the thickness of the wooden blank (slats, beams, boards).

When such a connection is made taking into account the location of the wood fibers, its texture, it seems that the product is made from a single piece of wood.

First, mark with a pencil the boundaries of the groove or shank. Then a cut is made with a hacksaw of the required depth for the shank, the groove is drilled with a drill. Excess wood is removed with the help of a chisel. The edges of the product are aligned with file files.If there is a router, set the depth of cut and mill necessary details... In addition, using the copying ring supplied with the machine, you can easily make the grooves of the required size.

Making a crib with your own hands

  1. We determine the size of the product. It is necessary to start from the dimensions of the mattress on which the child will sleep. We take standard size - 1200x600 mm.

    The frame of the crib consists of the backs and the base itself, on which the mattress will be placed in the future.

  2. The bottom of the crib is defined so as not to interfere with the child's climb onto the bed. For children from 4 to 6 years old, this is 35 cm.

    The scheme of the footboard of the bed.

  3. Surface treatment. It is necessary to make the details of the product, bringing them to the same size. The support frame will be a bar, cut into 6 identical blanks with attached 25 mm grooves for fixing the lamellas.

    The base of the bed will be 4 boards 35 mm thick and 7 mm wide.

  4. We calculate the calculation of the back. To do this, add the thickness of the board to the width of the bed. If there is a railing, we make a tolerance of 25 mm, taking into account their volume.

    Baby bed headboard diagram.

  5. The rods for the back are made from a 20x20 mm rail. For fastening at the ends, we make a studded connection.

    Decorative headboard with legs for a baby bed.

  6. We collect the frame. Boards, bed bases are connected with each other using shanks and grooves. For reliability, we strengthen the corners with metal corners, screwing them with bolts or self-tapping screws.

    The holes should be the same depth, which is half the length of that piece of wood.

  7. The base of the mattress is fastened to the bed frame with studded joints.

    Before assembling the bed, you need to check the parts for chips and various defects.

  8. We insert the slats into the prepared grooves on the base of the mattress.

    It is not worth saving, if there are few of them, in the future they will quickly break down.

  9. We attach the sides and back to the frame.

    After assembly, we clean the surface and varnish at least three times.

Note! All studded joints are fixed with wood glue. Under its influence, the tree is not only held together, but also swells, reliably fixing itself inside the groove.

Crib house - a cozy fairy tale

We all remember the unique feeling and mystery of huts made of bedspreads. So why not pamper your baby and improve his crib by "building" his own house for him to sleep in?

For this, during the manufacture of the back of the crib, we will make some adjustments.

Namely - by making the railing a little larger, first using a hacksaw or a miter saw, cutting off their tops at an angle of 75 0.We attach the base of the "roof" of our house to them. It is better to fasten the connection with spikes, but given the complexity of such a product, self-tapping screws are also suitable, the main thing- do not forget to glue.

The last step will be to attach the ridge beam, which will connect the base of the frame of our "house".

Thus, the baby will receive a personal "fairy tale" made by the caring hands of his father, and a secure roof will serve as a blanket thrown by mom.

Put maximum effort, care and love into your product, and such a bed will give your child good dreams, and you - joy and satisfaction from the work done.

Of course, what we have described does not reflect all the subtleties of the process of making a baby bed with our own hands. During work, you will encounter many obstacles, you will have to think out the nuances more than once. However, we hope that the instructions for making simple furniture that can raise the father's authority to a new level will be useful to both the young dad and the head of the family with many children.

VIDEO: Do-it-yourself house bed.

One cannot but rejoice at the fact how quickly our children grow up. So my dashing guy has grown to four years old and has ceased to fit into his crib one meter and twenty centimeters long. What kind of "slugs" are there now ?!

Here's what you should get.

As everyone knows, a comfortable bed for a baby is a guarantee of his harmonious development. Children sleep much more time than adults. And if the living space is also small, the crib can serve as a great help instead of a playpen. Unsurprisingly, they top the list of must-haves for a child.

My wife and I went around several furniture centers in search of a new bed. However, we came to the conclusion that we will make it ourselves, since none of the models fit our requirements:

  • Exceptional solid wood, without MDF and chipboard, in a pinch, the use of plywood. Personally, I even have some genetic distrust of super-environmentally friendly imported particleboards;
  • Mandatory presence on the crib, in order to avoid the fall of the child (well, at least small ones);
  • The dimensions of the children's bed must be at least 160x70 cm and no more than 190x80 cm (the dimensions were determined by us taking into account the space reserved for the crib and common sense);
  • The bottom of the bed should be equipped with spacious drawers (since one-room apartment have to fight for rational use every square centimeter);
  • If available, the price of a bed should not exceed twenty thousand rubles (the amount personally allocated for these purposes from the family budget).

For a long time we looked closely at all kinds of folding sofas, cots, discussed options with a sofa,. But they could not decide on the purchase: either the presence of chipboard, the absence of sides, non-removable mattresses, tiny drawers, or the prices are "sky-high".

I eventually went to a hardware store and purchased the following tools and materials from the list:

  • furniture boards;
  • aluminum corners;
  • multi-caliber self-tapping screws;
  • wheels for boxes;
  • drills and other household stuff.

This purchase cost me 8500 rubles. For another 7,500, I also bought a lattice base in the online store for 1,600 rubles (although I could get by with a sheet of plywood). In total, the expenditure was 17,600 rubles.

Here they are, my initial materials. The size of the mattress and the slatted base is 180x80 cm. There will be a royal bed for my tomboy!

I do the markup.

I cut the marked places with a jigsaw, although maintaining an ideal straight line of the cut is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. The cut points were sealed with paper tape so that the fibers were less lifted (I read about this on profile sites).

To my great surprise, scotch tape tends to run out quickly. Therefore, further I had to work without him, the main thing in this matter is not to saw the stool!

To draw complex shapes, I actively used available tools. In the front side I came up with a recess so that the little one could climb into the crib. And it would not hurt me to rest on it!

This is what happened, although before sawing it was a monolithic shield with dimensions of 200x60x2.8 cm.

I made holes and did not forget the zinking (it will hide under the screw head).

This is the inner side of the front of the sidewall, and this corner will be the base of the mattress. To begin with, I put it on 4 self-tapping screws, but on reflection, I added four more for greater reliability. Fortunately, I bought self-tapping screws with a margin!

He carefully laid the structure on its side, fearing that it might accidentally fall apart at any moment. I carefully drill the holes and fasten the shields. Your own eye and a perfectly executed mattress grid are responsible for the straightness of the corners!

I fasten with furniture ties, for which I prudently acquired special drillallowing you to save a lot of time.

First screed hole.

Directly the very first coupler.

This is the result at the end of all twisting and fastening work - an excellent solid bed base!

I set the bed in a specially designated place and put the mattress. I attached a panel to the bottom of the crib so that it would not interfere, and for a while left everything as it is, since I can only afford to do construction and household chores on weekends. In the unfinished bed, our little son had to sleep for a whole week, and during this time some design flaws were revealed.

It turned out that sleeping without a headboard is not very comfortable, or rather, very inconvenient:

  • in a dream, the child tosses and turns and, raising his head above the pillow, may accidentally hook on the side, since its height is only 10 cm;
  • the child can easily throw the pillow beyond the low side;
  • lack of a headboard - lack of comfort, as soon as he lay down, immediately convinced of this.

It is not pleasant when you contemplate bumps or bruises on the head of your child. I went to the store and bought two more small furniture boards for assembling the headboard. I sawed them as follows: for the back - one large sheet and two smaller ones - for the sides (the smallest in the photo is just a scrap).

I am the one who is in a creative search to decide on the design and shape of the future headboard.

For symmetry, I cut out another part according to the shape of the headboard back.

According to Wikipedia information, abrasive (grinding) abrasive material is intended for processing surfaces of various compositions (wood, glass, metal, plastic). Oh, and I suffered with this abrasive material!

In one of the sidewalls I cut out a window, which will have a technical function rather than a decorative one. Thus, I am going to mount it to the side of the crib.

I make cuts in the bathroom. My wife (I give her a fair bit of patience) had to come to terms with a thick layer of fragrant spruce dust on all her toiletries.

To draw curved lines and bends, I again used all kinds of improvised means.

It is very important to follow exactly the marked cut line and not deviate a millimeter from the course.

Twisting, fastening, tightening, adjusting

Since it is not possible to use a drill from the inside of the window, I had to drill a hole from the bottom up. The place for the head of the furniture screed was done by hand (it was lucky that spruce is a fairly pliable wood).

Creating graphic ovals, I experienced a tremendous sense of satisfaction from my own artistic achievements, but after cutting out my masterpiece ceased to be an exquisite presentable design. But the ovals did a great job with their functional purpose, and the child looks at them with pleasure before going to bed. He even uses them in his new fun: he covers himself with a blanket along with the headboard and, with a feeling of creating a personal reservation, waves to us through the side windows.

At this stage, construction and installation work had to be postponed again until next weekend.

The long-awaited weekend has come, and we start making legs for the crib and assembling drawers. To do this, I needed a cut about 20 cm wide from the end panel.

My imagination prompted me to make just such a shape of the legs.

It is necessary to cut the corners to the legs.

This is how I originally envisioned attaching the legs to the base of the crib.

Our consciousness sometimes gets us into the wonderful world of riddles and secrets (and it just frolicked above me)! I still can't find intelligible answers to the question: "Well, why did I take it into my head to fix the legs of the bed in such a bizarre way?" This whole process could end with the elementary use of long screws. But, apparently, at that moment I did not want to take a shortcut to achieving my goal.

Now it's time to use the part of the front sidewall just put to the bed for a while. From 12mm wide plywood, I cut the bottoms and sides for two drawers. For clarity, I somehow put this whole structure together.

Our bathroom underwent a change again, this time in a decorative coating with aluminum dust (wood dust was heroically eliminated by my other half in a week).

I twist and fasten.

I install wheels with a diameter of 4.5 cm.

Fitting process without facades. We make sure that the rotation occurs without any difficulty, even with a weighty load.

We finish the work by hanging the facades.

Sweet dreams, my baby!

P.S. The whole process of assembling and installing a baby cot will take you only a few days (in my case, it is three Saturdays). Tips for those who decide to follow my example:

  • if possible, do construction and installation work outside the house (in the country, in the garage), since it is very difficult to get rid of traces of three-layer dust (wood, aluminum and emery) later;
  • think first and plan carefully and then do (as opposed to my sequence);
  • Order a cut of plywood and panels directly in the store, after specifying the exact dimensions and shapes.

The appearance of a child is new stage in the life of a young family. They prepare for it in advance, at this moment the parents become closer, jointly showing care for their child. The necessary things from the first days appear in the house: oilcloths, diapers, diapers, a bath, special hygiene products, a personal bed. The cost of all the required items can be very onerous for young couples, sometimes overwhelming. Many are trying to save money, for example, they make toys on their own, make a crib with their own hands.

If you draw up a drawing correctly, plan the design of the bed, then the furniture can be used for a long time, from the moment the child is born to his four- or five-year-old. It is extremely important to teach your baby to sleep separately from the first day. It is unacceptable to put him in his parents' bed. Although most mothers sleep very lightly, irreparable things can happen in a dream. In addition, it is difficult to wean a child from the parental bed.

Advantages and features of making a bed with your own hands

Furniture stores sell many models of cribs made from various materials... Wood and its derivatives are mainly used, but there are also plastic options... It is not always possible to find furniture for a newborn that meets all the requirements, and suitable products are very expensive. In this case homemade constructions will be an excellent alternative, they have a number of advantages, expressed in the following:

  1. Cost. Hand-made furniture will cost much less than purchased counterparts, which will help save the family budget.
  2. Reliability. In the process of preparation and assembly, at each stage, the strength of all components is checked.
  3. Environmental friendliness. The bed for your son or daughter is made only from natural wood, which does not emit harmful substances.
  4. Exclusivity. An independently drawn up drawing will be the key to an individual, unique product.
  5. Experience gain. During work, a person acquires new skills that can later be applied in the production of such items.
  6. Compatible with the interior and style of the room.

When making a bed, you should adhere to certain rules:

  • for work, it is necessary to use exclusively environmentally friendly materials, which include natural wood;
  • the surface should not have sharp corners, roughness, chips, protrusions;
  • the product must correspond to the height, weight, physiological parameters of the baby.
  • it is necessary to provide protection against falling, rolling of the child.
  • for small apartments or houses, multifunctional structures are suitable, for this you can use the free space under them, install additional boxes, make a play area.

Designs and sizes of a baby bed

The easiest way is to make standard furniture, which consists of four legs, a frame, a mattress and a headboard. The model is used exclusively for baby sleep. If the sleeping place is fenced around the perimeter with walls with lattices, then you get a classic bed for a newborn. Although for such a category, you can use a cradle, arena, rocking chair, attached options.

In small rooms it is more practical to install multifunctional items. To do this, they are equipped with drawers, a chest of drawers, other useful elements... A very functional bed with an attic, where the sleeping place is placed on the second tier. Below you can organize a playground, install lockers for storing items.

Furniture made in the shape of a typewriter looks unusual. This is an option for older children who have not reached adolescence. Non-standard design allows you to make inconspicuous cabinets inside, hidden under the hood or behind the door. You will have to tinker with many elements, which will require certain carpentry skills.

Among the non-standard designs, you can choose a lodge bed. This model is suitable for children over 3 years old. It contains all the elements of a standard item, as well as doors and windows, gable roof... Decorative items will adorn any interior, will delight every kid.

What material to make beds

When self-building children's furniture, it is necessary to decide on the materials that will be used in the process. The main requirement is that the raw materials used must be environmentally friendly, not harm the development of the baby. Let's dwell on this issue in more detail, consider the best option for all component parts constructions:

  1. Mattress. It is recommended to purchase it in a specialized store, since purchased models are produced taking into account the recommendations developed by orthopedic doctors. If the bed is planned to be used for more than one year, then it is better to choose two-sided products with varying degrees of rigidity. For children under three years old, a hard, rigid coating is required, which contributes to fixation of the back, the correct development of the body. The filler should be woolen, do not take models that include cotton wool and foam rubber. The upholstery should also be made of natural fabric and have an antiseptic coating.
  2. Frame, slats, legs, sides. For a beloved child, only a tree should be chosen. Conifers are suitable for work: pine, spruce. Natural wood breathes, it is strong enough to suit any interior. Those who decide to use MDF or chipboard should remember that the boards contain phenol and formaldehyde resins, so it is necessary to take only models with emission class E-0.
  3. Protective equipment. To extend the service life, wooden surfaces process special formulations, they are painted, varnished. For these purposes, nitroenamel, acrylic, water-based paint for children's rooms. Wax is a great option. To preserve the texture of the wood, you can use acrylic varnish, other options are highly toxic.

If you have free cash, you can buy dense wood species: solid oak, larch. This is the most durable material, the products look rich, but it is rather difficult to process the raw materials.

We make a bed with our own hands

Having firmly decided to independently build a structure, you should understand all the nuances associated with its creation. Initially, a drawing is developed in which all the constituent elements are displayed. Then they acquire the materials necessary for work, prepare the tools, in the absence of any of them, they buy it in addition.

On the basis of the scheme, the raw materials are marked for component parts. They are cut out, combined into a single structure, treated with special compounds, painted, varnished, and decorated. For clarity, we will consider in detail the main stages that include the process of making a classic crib.

Drawings and diagram

The creation of any object is impossible without a drawing. IN graphic image, made on a certain scale, the dimensions of the nodes are indicated. To draw it up, you need minimal drawing skills, you can also use special programs. When developing a project, consider:

  1. The dimensions of the room where the product will be installed. A larger bed can be arranged in a spacious room.
  2. The dimensions of standard products for children under three years old are 120x60 cm.If you plan to use the structure in the future, you should give preference to the larger models 150x60 cm, 180x70 cm.
  3. At the bottom of the crib, you can equip lockers in which baby things will be stored.
  4. For preschoolers, it is worthwhile to provide removable sides that will protect them from rolling and falling.
  5. Design and decoration chosen according to the preferences of the parents.

Required tools and materials

To make and assemble the bed, you will need the following materials:

  • board;
  • mDF sheet;
  • varnishes and paints;
  • screws, fasteners, rubber heels on the legs.

Tools:

  • saw for wood, jigsaw;
  • hammer, screwdriver, screwdriver;
  • drill, drill;
  • measuring instruments, a simple pencil.

Basic parts and their preparation

A standard bed consists of 4 legs, 2 backs, sides, removable sides, frame, slats, mattress. The last item from the list is purchased ready-made, the rest are made by hand. The process looks like this:

  1. In accordance with the drawing, the marking of all component parts is applied to the tree. This can be done with a tape measure and a simple pencil.
  2. The elements are cut with an electric jigsaw, a saw.
  3. Component parts are sanded with sandpaper.
  4. Depending on the length of the sides, metal corners used to install the mattress are cut with a grinder. Holes are drilled in them for self-tapping screws to fix them to the tree.
  5. All components are painted and varnished.

The main stages of assembly

Work on assembling the bed is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Collect the backs located at the headboard and foot. They are connected to the legs.
  2. Prepare the base for the mattress. To do this, metal corners are attached to the wooden sidewalls with self-tapping screws. Lamellas are fixed to them from above, perpendicular to the side walls.
  3. The backs and the base for the mattress are connected with furniture fittings; for reliability, it is better to use corners.
  4. A mattress is installed on the frame.
  5. On the sides, removable protective sides are added, fixed on special metal or wood fittings.
  6. If necessary, the finished product is decorated.

Making and assembling the car bed

Children will be delighted with this design. Everyone can make it. To do this, you need to draw up a drawing or download it online. Then you can start cutting out the components and assembling. The work consists of the following stages:

  1. Of furniture board side and front walls are made.
  2. On the side surfaces, cutouts are made to simulate the doors of a car, through which it will be convenient for a child to get inside.
  3. On one of the end parts, using a jigsaw, holes are carefully cut out for the headlights and radiator.
  4. Then a few more planks are cut out, imitating the hood of the car, the windshield.
  5. Wheels are being prepared.
  6. Wooden corners are attached to the side walls, on which the base for the mattress is laid.
  7. A rectangular frame is assembled from the prepared parts, which is installed on the wheels.
  8. The resulting workpiece is painted or varnished.
  9. The base is fixed inside the frame, the mattress is laid.

Features of assembling a bed for newborns

For newborns, the design of the bed should be slightly different. Its standard size is 120x60 cm; when the baby reaches 3 years old, it will become cramped for him. When planning, it is worth considering the possibility of adjusting the height of the bed. When the child is small, it is convenient to place it higher, and as soon as he learns to get up, the bottom will have to be lowered for safety.

For a comfortable sleep of crumbs, parents, neighbors, one removable side or end wall should be provided in the crib, which will allow it to be placed near the parent. The distance between the rods along the entire perimeter is made within 2.5 - 6 cm. This optimal sizesin which the child will not be able to pinch his fingers or stick his head. Do not forget about the strength of the product, good fixation of removable elements.

In addition to the listed features, the legs of the bed are often installed on casters, making it mobile. Pendulum mechanisms or rockers are also equipped. Their use is recommended by pediatricians. This makes it easy to lull the child to sleep. It is advisable to use the bumper only in the first months, then it should be removed in order to increase the view, knowing the world of the child.

Decor of the bed with soft sides of our own tailoring

Dad is not the only one who can contribute to the family budget by building a ready-made crib. Mom can also join this process by decorating the product with soft sides. Outwardly, the craft resembles covers filled with filler. In addition to the decorative function, they also perform a practical one, protect the baby from accidental hits on the rods, do not allow him to stick his hand between them. When sewing them, certain requirements must be observed:

  • The fabric should only be natural, flax, calico, cotton are suitable. Wool must be used as a filler.
  • It is better to choose the material in light, pastel shades, which have a good effect on the psyche of the child.
  • If a drawing is provided, then it should be done in medium size, a small one will annoy him.

Master class on making a bunk bed

it perfect option for a family with two children of the same age, whether it be a boy and a girl or same-sex babies. The design of the bunk bed repeats the single-tier one. A slight difference lies only in the presence of a ladder, the height of the product, the fastening of two boxes on the same supports. For safety, a side is provided on top, located along the entire perimeter. To understand all the intricacies of the model, consider a master class on making such a bed:

  1. We prepare boards with a section of 3.5x10 cm.According to the chosen scheme, we cut out 4 blanks of 190 cm each, 4 - 180 cm each, 4 - 80 cm each.
  2. On 190 cm boards, stepping back 30 cm from each edge, we make grooves on both end sides from above and below for the width of the crossbars 3.5x10 mm.
  3. We collect the side backs. To do this, using 80 cm segments, two support legs are connected.
  4. The finished backrests are connected using 4 pieces of 180 cm, installed in the outer end grooves.
  5. Above and below we make a base for the mattress. To do this, lamellas are nailed along the perimeter of both tiers over the sidewalls. Here they can not be recessed, thanks to the sides located in a circle.
  6. We mount the stairs. Its length should be the distance from the lower edge of the side partition to the upper edge of the support.
  7. We install the sides, lay the mattress.

Self-made bed with storage boxes

Any drawing of a standard bed can be taken as a basis for the manufacture of such a structure. The only difference will be the presence of full-fledged side walls and drawers. First of all, it is necessary to determine their number. It can be one element that takes up the entire space under the bed, two, or even three. It is also worth considering the type of sliding parts. There are two radically different options: independent from the main body, fixed to the frame, sliding out on guides.

The process of constructing the product will be similar to the preparation and assembly of a regular single bed for children. Here it is necessary to provide not legs, but side walls and intermediate partitions on which the guides will be attached. It is also worth considering the fact that the gap between the floor and the bottom of the tray must be at least 1 cm.

To make the box itself, you will need to prepare four pieces of wood, their dimensions depend on the size of the space under the bed. Then they are connected in a rectangular or square box, a sheet of chipboard, plywood is nailed from below. To strengthen the structure from the inside, 4 support strips are installed from the bottom around the entire perimeter, a loose bottom is made, which allows you to store heavier items.

Decorating methods

Comfortable conditions and practicality of construction are equally important for a baby bed. To improve the conditions for the baby, auxiliary decorative elements are used, which also have a number of useful functions. Consider the most popular options for decorating this item:

  • Canopy. An elegant canopy that is sewn from any natural fabric. It is recommended to use this element up to 4-5 months.

In addition to decoration, the product serves as protection from insects. A lot of dust settles on it, so it must be washed frequently.

  • Canopy. Unlike the previous version, only light, transparent materials are used: tulle, organza, veil. Fastening is done with a bar.
  • Valance. This is the framing of the lower edge of the bed. It covers the lower part of the furniture, which will perfectly mask some mistakes made when making the crib yourself.
  • Hanging toys. Often they are suspended in a pair with a musical mobile. This type of decor is made from cardboard or fabric. Contributes to the development of the child. They can have the most diverse appearance, be it snowflakes, animals, flowers or others.
  • Stickers. You can buy them at any furniture store. When fixing them, it is worth taking care that the child cannot reach them.

Painting the bed - what paint is better to use

In the industrial production of baby beds, oil paints are used. They improve appearance, protect the surface from damage, they are easy to clean from dirt. With an independent choice of coloring agents, you should study their composition, make sure that there are no toxic, poisonous elements in it. These requirements are met:

  • Water based acrylic paints. They are distinguished by their high cost and good performance.
  • Nitro paints. They do not have a pronounced odor, are inexpensive, dry quickly.
  • Water-based. They are characterized by a long service life. With their help, you can hide shallow cracks.
  • Wax. The most expensive option. It is a flawless, high-quality coating with water-repellent properties.

A person cannot do without a pillow. This is due to the structure of the human body. The element supports the bending of the cervical spine, promotes blood flow to the brain. The child begins to put this object at the age of 1-2 years, depending on his physical development. The product must have a rectangular shape from 30x40 to 40x60 cm.Its thickness must be: for children under three years old - 3-4 cm, after - 5-6 cm.An important place is occupied by its elasticity, too soft pillow will lead to pain in the cervical vertebra, rapid fatigue.

Bird fluff, natural wool, buckwheat husk, holofiber, latex are used as a filler. The last three options are the best in terms of elasticity. When selecting fabric material, preference should be given to natural fiber treated with antiseptics. It is better to choose models in which the cover is zipped, then you can control the condition of the filler.

Unlike a pillow, a mattress is necessary from the first days of the child. It must be hypoallergenic, safe, absorb and evaporate liquids without problems. For babies also great importance has elasticity, therefore, it is necessary to take only orthopedic products. For the rest, the requirements for filler and trim are almost the same as for pillows.

Choice of bed linen

Any person gains strength during sleep, and babies are still growing and developing. Every parent wants to make this moment calm. In this matter, they are helped by bed linen, which should be of high quality, made from natural materials. For these purposes, the following types of fabric are used:

  • cotton,
  • chintz,
  • satin,
  • coarse calico,
  • bamboo.

The color of the selected canvas should be neutral, it is better to use pastel, light colors that are conducive to sleep. For newborns, a product without a pattern is suitable, for older children, but not for adolescents, underwear with a print of your favorite characters from cartoon series. Also, when choosing bedding, you should pay attention:

  • the material should not lose its structure and color from frequent washes;
  • do not take linen with buttons, ribbons, lace;
  • Conclusion

    Having studied the ready-made schemes, having considered all the positive and negative aspects associated with self-production cots for their baby, any parent will build a similar design. At the same time, all family members can participate in the process. Dad will prepare and assemble the frame, and mom will pick up a mattress, pillow, bedding, make decorative elements with her own hands. This will not only save the family budget, but also show the child that they are being cared for and loved.

For the correct development of the child, it is important not only the play area, but also the recreation area. The life of a kid is connected with a game, with copying the everyday life of adults, and if you have a desire, you can even diversify the life of your children by making beds for children with your own hands, for example, in the form of a car, a house, or even a ship.

Such a bed can be purchased in a store, but it will cost a lot of money and, as a rule, furniture with such a design is not mass-produced, and it is not easy to fulfill an individual order for production, since it requires high costs. Therefore, the cost of such furniture has always been high. But you can make a crib for a newborn with your own hands according to drawings and photos.

What material to choose for making a bed for children with your own hands

In order to make a baby bed yourself, you need to purchase some materials and tools. It is best to make cribs with your own hands from wood; conifers are suitable for this: pine, cedar, spruce. You can use plywood or MDF. It all depends on your capabilities and abilities.

When making beds for children with your own hands, it is preferable to use natural wood, since it is more environmentally friendly than other materials. Wooden furniture has always been highly valued for its qualities, which include strength, durability of the product, and beauty. Using wooden bed, children's sleep will be much stronger and calmer. But before starting the creation process, you need to purchase a mattress. Because the stock will be made exactly according to its size. It doesn't matter if you make a bed for a girl with your own hands or for a boy. A mattress, it is more advisable to buy in a store. Fortunately, modern industry makes them for every taste.

Choosing a mattress

When buying, you just need to consider some of the features of the purchased product:

You also need to take care of the acquisition paints and varnishes... you can choose a shade depending on whether you are making a bed for a boy or a girl with your own hands. Well, in addition, you will need to purchase carpentry glue for the possible connection of parts of the structure being created.

What paint is best to use when painting a crib

In furniture manufacturing, as a rule, oil paints are used, antiseptic agents are added to them to protect the wood from decay, and they give the products a bright color. This has a positive effect on the appearance of the product.

The varnishes used to cover the surface of the bed are made on a water basis. They emphasize texture and are pleasant to the touch. But the surface treated with such means does not need to be washed with active detergents, as it quickly deteriorates. It will be enough to wipe the surface with a damp cloth. To paint a homemade baby bed, you should buy formulations with non-toxic components.

In this case, a good option might be:

Some people want to see the texture of the wood of a homemade bed, not covered with paint, then acrylic varnish must be applied. It does not have a pungent smell, withstands ultraviolet rays. All other varnishes are either highly toxic or short-lived in work.

If there is an opportunity to purchase more expensive types of wood, such as ash, larch, your product will look richer, but remember that it is more difficult to work with these species, since they have a completely different (denser) wood structure and are difficult to process.

All materials can be purchased at hardware or specialized stores and timber trade bases.

Baby crib painting

Acrylic-based paints are used to cover furniture when finishing... The process is simple, but it takes time.

Before painting the surface, you must do the following:

  1. Disassemble the bed into its component parts.
  2. To prepare surfaces for painting: sand the surface with sandpaper. If there are old layers of paint or varnish, treat with a remover and remove them with a spatula.
  3. Degrease the surface, especially if there are resinous areas in the form of knots on it. This is done with any solvent (it is better to use a solvent or turpentine).
  4. If necessary, repair minor surface damage with putty.
  5. Before painting, after sanding, be sure to prime the surface.
  6. Apply paint or varnish (at least three coats) with a brush, paint roller, sponge or rag. You can use a spray gun, but there will be a large consumption of paint and varnish material.

After applying the first coat of paint or varnish to the previously primed surface, you need to wait until it dries. The painted surface can be sanded again. This is done in order to remove small wood fibers from the surface that have risen as a result of staining. After that, apply alternately two more thin layers of paint or varnish.

It is recommended to carry out work on the manufacture of the bed, carrying out paintwork outside the living quarters, best of all, in a specially designated room for household needs.

What tool you need to have

To make a baby bed with your own hands at home, you need a minimum of tools. As a rule, every owner has everything you need in a box.

To make a sleeping place for a child, you will need:

  1. Plane. It is necessary for possible shaving of the ends during the assembly of a do-it-yourself crib from wood.
  2. Drill with a set of different drills
  3. with a set of bits or just a set of screwdrivers, but it is better to have both.
  4. A chisel, hammer or mallet.
  5. Carpentry clamps, they can be made by yourself to compress parts during gluing. It all depends on the complexity of your chosen project.
  6. A sander with a set of sanding skins, or just sandpaper of various grain sizes. But then the processing process will take longer.
  7. Electric jigsaw with a set of saws for sawing wood, plywood, MDF, or hand saw... But then again the quality and speed of work will be significantly reduced.
  8. You will also need wood screws, furniture fittings to assemble a baby bed.

The number of tools will depend on the materials from which you will make the baby bed. If this is a board, then you need to take into account the degree of its carpentry. In the case when these are materials made of plywood or MDF, their dimensions and appearance.

What are the main details in the design of the bed

You can buy all the parts for making cribs for children with your own hands ready-made, and then complete the assembly yourself, or purchase a "semi-finished product" and make all the structural components from it, based on the size of your bed.

The main details are:

  • legs for the bed;
  • drawers, transverse and longitudinal;
  • slats for a set of the bottom of the bed;
  • headboard;
  • side rails.

All of the above parts, connected together, form the basis of the product. The methods of assembling a children's wooden bed with your own hands and fastening parts can be different, since it depends on the design features and the material from which it is made.

For example, if the bed is made of wood:

  1. The drawers must be well planed and sanded. Make grooves in them for installing slats on which the mattress will lie. The distance between the holes should be no more than 5 cm. This indentation is necessary to prevent the mattress from falling into the gaps between the slats, which will lead to premature wear of the mattress. The lamellas are either glued to the tsars or screwed with self-tapping screws.
  2. Side rails are designed to prevent the child from falling out of bed during sleep. Making a baby bed with bumpers with your own hands will help protect your baby from injury. They are attached to the backs of the structure using self-tapping screws, or they can be inserted into pre-prepared grooves.
  3. The headboards can be of different designs. If the system is a frame system, then it can be filled with a plywood panel, which is easy to make on your own, or you can order it from craftsmen to make a wooden panel, but this will cost more.

After assembling the bed, the question arises about choosing a decor for the product. Inaccuracies made in the manufacture of parts will appear in the assembly process in the form of slots. If there are any on a wooden product, they will need to be covered with putty and subsequently cleaned with sandpaper.

You also need to prepare a primer, stain and varnish. Do not forget that paints and varnishes must be environmentally friendly, since the bed is made for a child.

What design of a baby bed to choose

There are many options for making a bed for a child yourself. What model to create depends, first of all, on your skill.

When choosing a design, it is necessary to take into account:

  • the size of the children's room;
  • the age of the child;
  • the child's wishes;
  • your possibilities.

If you are looking for how to make a bed for a girl with your own hands, you can consider several options. For example, it is not difficult to make two bunk beds: with a bed at the bottom and at the top if you have two children. A bunk bed is also suitable for one child. In the area of \u200b\u200bthe second tier, you can make a bed for rest, that is, the bed itself. And the lower part will be playable, or combine play and work areas. For example, put there deskwhere the child will do homework. You can make improvised windows from fabric and give the bed an image small house... Since making a bed for a child yourself is not difficult, you can dream up and create something, well, very original. For example, build a baby rocking bed with your own hands according to drawings and photos from the Internet.

Crib in the form of a house

If you want to make a children's bed with your own hands from 3 years old, we offer an option in the form of a house. Such a design is not difficult to manufacture, and with the minimum of tools indicated above, you can safely get to work. When making such a bed yourself, you can adhere to a free style and experiment with proportions and colors, while taking into account the preferences of children.

As an example, let's take the size of a bed:

  • height 178 cm;
  • length 175 cm;
  • width 91 cm;
  • mattress size 80 x 165 cm.

Tool:

  • hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drills with a diameter of 6, 10 mm;
  • measuring tool, pencil, ruler, square, tape measure;
  • glue for wood;
  • sandpaper for sanding and surface cleaning;
  • self-tapping screws size: 4.5 x 30, 6 x 70 mm;
  • carpentry glue to glue parts.

For this design, you need to take 13 bars square section, preferably 45 x 45, the length of the bar should be:

  • standing supports 1200 mm - 4 pcs;
  • cross bar 829 mm - 2 pcs;
  • roof rafters 730 mm - 4 pcs;
  • axial beams for the roof 1660 mm - 3 pcs.

For the manufacture of the bed bottom, two beams are suitable, the size of which is 38 x 67 x 1660 mm and 2 slats 9x 67 x 1660 mm, as well as lamellas.

Since it is necessary to make a bed a house for a child with a roof, then we choose a gable option so that the parts fit tightly to each other, we saw the upper edges at an angle of 45 degrees.

For the manufacture of walls, we use 1200 mm long racks in this construction. They will play the role of load-bearing supports to which the roof of the bed-house will be attached. For its manufacture, we use a bar with a length of 730 mm.

Car-shaped bed

There will be no limit to the delight of your children. What are the features of making this type of bed? Given the activity of the kids, it doesn't matter for them whether it is an ordinary construction or if it carries play functions. The child's bed is subject to more stress despite the significant differences in weight.

Features of the crib car:

  1. An important requirement for such a product is the strength of this structure.
  2. When creating, you should take into account the size and make it grow, since in this case you cannot make a sliding children's bed with your own hands.
  3. It is equally important to observe safety during registration and further operation. This refers to the selection of paints and varnishes, the material from which the bed itself is made, various stickers and electric lighting. All this must comply with a certain safety class.

When making a bed frame - a typewriter, you must take into account your experience and the weight of your child. The base is a frame structure with legs, or a box, which is reinforced with transverse beams. When making a car bed for a boy with their own hands, a bar with a cross section of 50 x 70 mm is used, during assembly, the frame is reinforced with metal corners. The headboard and headboard, as well as the sidewalls, are attached to it. We must not forget that the size of the frame must correspond to the size of the mattress, a difference of +1.2 cm is allowed.

It is preferable to make the bottom of the frame, where the mattress will be placed, from slats, although it is possible, if necessary, to be made solid, from plywood 10 mm thick.

The main detail of the design of this structure will be side panelsimitating the silhouette of a car. They are made from plywood, chipboard or MDF. It can be made of wood, but if you do not have the skills of gluing wood, then it is better to choose any of the above materials.

Assembling the car bed

At the beginning, you need to develop a baby bed scheme A specific car model is taken for a sample. It is important to observe the parameters, colors, bending of lines. In general, a design drawing will be needed. Then you need to make a part template and cut the material on it. Also, with the help of a children's bed project with your own hands, you need to prepare the details of the headboard and foot of the bed. Further, your improvisation and imagination: you can make the headlights and bumper of a car by drawing them, or you can make them from improvised material.

A baby bed is made - the car can be in two ways:

  1. All decor elements are attached to a wooden frame.
  2. The constituent decorative elements themselves, depicting the outline of the car, are the frame.

In both cases, you will need to make drawings of children's beds with your own hands. Blanks are made using templates, cut out of plywood or MDF with an electric tool, the edges must be sanded, and a thermal tape is glued to them.

Of course, it would not be superfluous to equip this bed structure with fake wheels and a steering wheel. But masters do not always create such details. Having a steering wheel can create problems in bed maintenance. But the wheels can be drawn or made by yourself, this will complicate the design a little, but what you can't do for your beloved children. You can also equip the bed with night lights and install them in the form of sidelights and car headlights.

As you already understood, the choice of materials for this design of a crib is quite extensive. When using plywood, furniture wooden board or MDF, on given view 1-2 sheets will leave. Confirmates and keys to them, you will purchase at a hardware store. With the help of screws, you will connect the bed parts - cars.

Holes where fasteners enter are best closed with plugs, or at worst putty. But if it becomes necessary to tighten the fasteners, the putty will have to be picked out for a long time, and it will clog the socket for the screwdriver. Therefore, it is better to focus on stubs. The fastening of the drawers must be reinforced with metal corners, this will strengthen your structure as a whole.

6 basic steps to assemble a bed car

  1. We assemble the frame in the form of a frame structure or assemble a box with the installation of partitions. It is better to fasten parts using confirmations, having previously drilled holes for them.
  2. Prepare the sidewalls and end backs by cutting them out of plywood or MDF or other material.
  3. Make a rough assembly of the structure in order to identify and eliminate errors during the manufacture of bed parts. After removing the flaws or in the absence of such, the parts are prepared for painting.
  4. In the bed model, where the side decorative designs are a frame, preliminary assembly is also required.
  5. After staining and subsequent drying, the bed parts are assembled using self-tapping screws and confirmators. The screw heads must be hidden with caps. Castors can be installed to the bottom of the bed frame, if desired.
  6. The last step will be to decorate your crib - cars with various attributes, such as a steering wheel, imitation car tires, headlights, and so on. It all depends on your imagination.

The advantages of making a crib with your own hands
