The issue of thermal insulation of the veranda using becomes relevant when there is a desire to use this room all year round. Verandas are usually unheated, as a result of which the temperature in them can drop below zero in winter.

If you want to ensure a comfortable air temperature inside the veranda even in the coldest season, you need to take care of the high-quality insulation of the extension.

With complex thermal insulation using proven materials, and installing an elementary heating device: a small solid fuel stove, or a good electric radiator, you can ensure a constant temperature in the veranda at + 18 + 19 degrees.

1 Work from the inside

It should be immediately noted that since the construction of a veranda, as a rule, is a budget project, as a result of which it is built from inexpensive materials - wood, cinder blocks, or gas silicate blocks, the veranda will have to be insulated in a complex manner.

You can, of course, only insulate the walls and even make it, or the ceiling, but you will not get the desired effect from such thermal insulation.

To make a full-fledged year-round living space out of the veranda, it is necessary to insulate both the surface of the walls from the outside and the ceiling, walls and floor from the inside of the building.

1.1 What is better to insulate?

If savings are at the head of the insulation project, then ordinary foam can be used as an insulating material. This material has good thermal conductivity and is inexpensive.

Also, it is easy to work with foam, even one person can handle it without any problems, so if you plan to do everything with your own hands, foam is a good option from inexpensive insulation.

The thermal conductivity of the foam is about 0.04 W / mK, which, of course, is less than that of mineral wool or extruded polystyrene foam, but it's also quite good, given the cost of this material.

For insulation of walls, ceiling and floor, you can take foam plastic 5 centimeters thick - in most cases it will be quite enough.

Expanded polystyrene benefits not only in thermal insulation properties. An important fact is that this material has minimal vapor permeability and hydrophobicity, as a result of which condensation will not form on its surface, which is the main enemy of most heaters.

The advantages of expanded polystyrene can also be attributed to the ease of installation - this insulation is made in the form of plates with dimensions of 100 * 160 cm, for the installation of which, in most cases, only an adhesive solution is sufficient.

2.1 Do-it-yourself veranda insulation technology (video)

It is difficult to imagine a country cottage or cottage without a veranda. Basically, such a building is used only in the warm season. But often, to increase the usable area and operate the premises in winter, they carry out the veranda insulation ,. How to implement it correctly and with minimal cost, we will tell in this article.

Warming methods

How to make a veranda suitable for winter residence? It is advisable to think over the possibilities of thermal insulation at the beginning of construction, since after the completion of the work, labor costs and financial investments increase several times.

Warming of the veranda means installing insulation on the floor, walls, and ceiling. However, due to the influence of the atmospheric environment, not all types of materials are suitable for solving this problem.

The best option are rolled and slab insulation based on natural minerals. They are sufficiently air and vapor permeable, which contributes to the free removal of moisture and protects the wood from decay and damage.

Artificial insulation made of polyurethane foam, which has low vapor permeability, is less preferable for the veranda. These materials are more often used for external insulation, plates are attached to a pre-installed timber frame.

Starting from the floor

It is much easier to carry out measures to insulate the veranda during the construction phase. As a rule, such structures are made according to frame technology... This facilitates the process of laying insulation in walls, floors and roofs.

The first stage in preparing the structure for winter living is floor insulation on the veranda. After the foundation is erected, the lower strapping of a bar with a section of 150x150 mm is installed on the supports and the crate is mounted. Before insulating the floor on the veranda, the tree is processed protective compound.

Next, the so-called rough floor of the veranda made of edged or unedged boards 25 mm thick is attached to the floor beam. If there is a subfloor, this task is relatively easy to solve. In the absence of the necessary space under the floor of the veranda, 30x30 bars are attached to the side planes of the floor in the lower part, on which the subfloor is mounted.

Insulating material and a vapor barrier layer are installed on top of the fixed boards. Since the lion's share of heat loss occurs through the floor, 2-3 layers of insulation are laid on the lower floor, alternating directions at an angle of 90 °.

Instead of plate or roll insulation, solid materials are used, for example, expanded clay is poured between the beams. A layer of vapor barrier is laid on top and the floor is finished.

We insulate the walls

The next stage of veranda insulation is wall insulation. Vertical bars are attached along the perimeter of the floor and fixed with the help of jibs and transverse horizontal inserts. Outside the walls are sheathed finishing material of one type or another, after laying the vapor barrier.

Insulation is mounted between the vertical posts in at least two layers.

As a rule, the thickness of the material allows it not to be additionally fixed. It is enough to cut pieces of mineral wool 3-4 cm wider than the opening in which the installation is planned.

After the vertical surfaces are insulated, the finishing layer of the vapor barrier is sewn on and the interior walls are finished.

We work with the ceiling

It is impossible to qualitatively insulate the veranda from the inside, bypassing the ceiling. The upper frame is assembled in the same way as the lower floor, that is, from wooden beams square section. In the case of consistent work, the ceiling is insulated before installing the roof. For this, on the underside of the floor slabs, the surface is finished with a preliminary installation of a vapor barrier.

Insulation is mounted on the finish in several layers and covered with a draft ceiling. If the veranda does not imply the presence of a separate roof with an attic, a crate is attached over the sheathing and the roof is installed.

Warming the finished veranda

It is much more difficult to insulate a building erected several years ago. In this case, it is advisable to minimize dismantling work that can damage the previously installed finishing material of the walls, floor and ceiling. Let's take a closer look at the nuances of warming the finished veranda.

Ceiling

If it becomes necessary to rebuild the premises for winter living, the installation of the insulation begins with dismantling interior decoration ceiling. The operation is performed carefully to minimize waste. Typically in wooden houses when decorating verandas, they use expensive material - lining.

After all panels have been removed from the upper horizontal slab, they begin to install the insulation. To exclude the loss of mineral plates, proceed as follows:

Walls

As a rule, the finished veranda is insulated outside. This saves expensive interior finishes. After dismantling the outer wall cladding, a vapor barrier is installed: the film is fixed in the gaps between the racks using a construction stapler.

Insulation of the veranda outside

Instead of mineral wool, foam plastic is used for external wall insulation, which is resistant to weathering and is not afraid of the influence of microorganisms. Insulation of the veranda with foam is carried out in a pre-assembled crate that provides free air circulation.

Particular attention is paid to the windows. It is better to install two- or three-chamber double-glazed windows.

If there is single glass in the windows for the veranda, all joints are treated with a special insulation on an adhesive basis, and the frame landing sites are coated with sealant.

Floor

A large amount of cold air enters the room through the floor. Without high-quality thermal insulation, winter operation of the veranda is impossible, while heating costs increase significantly.

We begin work on laying insulation from dismantling flooring... can be attached in several ways:

In the presence of rough sheathing, a vapor barrier membrane is attached and expanded clay or mineral wool is laid. With a standard thickness of mats or rolls of 50 mm, it is recommended to lay 3 layers between the 150x150 timber. A vapor barrier is attached to the upper planes of the beams and the floor boards are mounted in their original place.

If there is no subfloor, a false lattice is made of pine timber 30x30, attaching it to the side planes of the beams with 70x4 mm self-tapping screws.

Thus, having studied the technology of warming the veranda, even a novice master will be able to independently perform all the work. Of course, it is better to insulate the room during the construction phase. But as a last resort, you can make insulation of the finished veranda, spending an additional amount of effort, time and finance.

In a harsh climate, the owners do their best to insulate the house or summer cottage. For example, a veranda is placed to protect the front door. This is a kind of vestibule, where cold street air and warm air are mixed from indoor spaces... But, when insulating a house, they do not always take into account that additional insulation will not interfere with the veranda. Otherwise, the unheated room will freeze and get damp, which is why the finish will quickly become unusable. With a competent approach, the veranda is insulated even at the construction stage. But it happens that the house was not built, but bought, and not in the very the best... In this case, do-it-yourself insulation of the veranda from the inside is carried out as needed. The main thing is to know where the cold "creeps" into the room, and to take all possible protection measures.

Usually the veranda is placed on the same type of foundation as the main building - monolithic concrete or concrete slabs. This material does not at all block the cold that comes from the ground in winter, therefore it is able to freeze through. Heat loss through the foundation reaches 20%.

Options for how to insulate the base summer veranda, maybe several.

Backfilling the internal space with earth or expanded clay

These options are possible only at the stage of the construction of the veranda, when foundation work is underway. Having removed the formwork, the entire internal platform is covered with earth or expanded clay. The land will be cheap, especially if there is a lot of excess soil left during construction. True, its quality of heat saving is low.

Expanded clay interlayer does not allow moisture and frost to sink into the concrete slab

Expanded clay has higher thermal insulation, but it will have to be bought. You can make a double layer: first fill the soil, and the second half - with expanded clay pebbles.

Pasting with expanded polystyrene

For Russian lands, where 80% of soils are heaving, external insulation of the foundation with expanded polystyrene is necessary. When thawing and freezing, such soils expand in volume and can deform the foundation. A layer of insulation will become an insulator that will relieve the base from direct contact with the ground, and also block frost. The entire outer surface of concrete, including the base, is glued with expanded polystyrene plates.

To insulate the veranda with your own hands are suitable: foam plastic, extruded polystyrene foam and liquid polyurethane foam... All these are varieties of polystyrene, which differ in properties and method of application. The cheapest one - Styrofoam... It retains heat well, but will crack on moving soil. In addition, the foam pulls moisture from the ground, therefore, during its installation, an additional waterproofing layer is created (from the soil). Extruded polystyrene foam due to its dense structure, it does not saturate moisture, is not afraid of ground movements, has high frost resistance and has been serving for more than half a century. But it is expensive.

Before gluing expanded polystyrene, it is necessary to cover the entire foundation with waterproofing mastic

Both versions of polystyrene are laid on the outside of the foundation, excavating it to the very base. In this case, the first row is placed on a gravel bed. Before laying, the foundation is coated with bitumen-polymer mastic (for waterproofing), and when it dries up, polystyrene foam plates are glued. The adhesive must be polyurethane. It is applied in dots or by smearing the entire sheet. The joints between the plates are also taken on glue so that there are no cold bridges and crevices for moisture penetration.

The newest way of external insulation - polyurethane foam spraying... It is brought to the construction site in the form of liquid components and is sprayed onto the foundation with special equipment. After curing, the coating becomes dense, monolithic and very durable. In terms of characteristics, this material is not inferior to the extruded "brother", but the cost of work is more expensive.

With sprayed insulation, the best quality of thermal insulation, because there are no joints

To keep your feet warm: floor insulation

In addition to the foundation, the floor is closest to the ground. Its insulation is a must if you do not want to see black spots of dampness in the corners.

Most often, concrete floors are poured on verandas. If you plan to heat the veranda using the "warm floor" system, then you should take care of it already at the stage of filling the subfloors. It is better to choose an electrical system that you will turn on as needed. The water floor can freeze at very low temperatures, and you will have to wait for spring to thaw, or dismantle the coating to warm up the pipes.

If there was an old tile on the veranda, then you can put insulation directly on it

Consider how you can insulate the floor on an unheated veranda:

  1. The entire subfloor is covered with rubble, and on top - with sand and tamped tightly.
  2. Reinforcement bars or mesh are laid out (so that the concrete does not burst) and a concrete screed is made 5 cm thick.
  3. When the fill is tired, we create a waterproofing. The easiest way is to coat the screed with a water-repellent mastic. But it's cheaper - to lay sheets of roofing material and fasten them together using bitumen mastic (or warm it up with a burner and roll it in).
  4. On top of the waterproofing, logs impregnated with an antiseptic are mounted, and insulation is laid out between them. Most the best option - mineral wool with a foil-coated side. The foil does not release infrared radiation from the veranda, along with which most of the heat evaporates. Rolls of insulation are placed after all the logs are installed.
  5. Can also be insulated with expanded polystyrene. Then the joints between the plates must be blown out. polyurethane foam, and when it dries - cut off the excess.

After that, boards or decking are laid, because both materials are warm. The board must be treated in every possible way against decay and painted with a protective compound. In addition, natural wood very afraid of poor ventilation. To avoid dampness, it is necessary to make ventilation vents in the foundation, which should be located below the floor level.

Insulation is placed with foil facing up so that it reflects heat back to the veranda

Decking does not require ventilation in the underground, because it is not afraid of dampness and temperature changes

Decking is also a board, but already processed with compounds at the factory. It is made of larch, which is not afraid of frost or moisture. Open terraces are lined with such material, so it is even more suitable for a veranda. True, the cost of such a floor will not be cheap.

We put heat protection for the walls

The walls have a large area of contact with the street, so we will consider how to insulate the veranda with our own hands from the outside and from the inside. Outside, insulation is performed if the wall material looks unpresentable. Those. it can be blocks, an old tree, etc.

External insulation

and for wooden walls:

  1. We close up all the cracks in the building.
  2. We fill the tree with a vertical crate of beams with a step of up to half a meter. It is better to measure the width of the insulation and fill it exactly to its size. Then all the plates will fit tightly to the crate.
  3. Insert between the bars mineral woolfixing the dowel-umbrellas.
  4. We fix the waterproofing film on top with a stapler.
  5. We decorate with clapboard or siding.

After laying the mineral wool, it is necessary to attach a waterproofing film to the crate with a stapler

b) For block walls:

  1. Glue on the walls expanded polystyrene plates with a special adhesive, additionally strengthening the dowel-umbrellas.
  2. We coat the same glue on the top of the slabs and fix the reinforcing mesh on them.
  3. After drying, we cover the walls with decorative plaster.
  4. We paint.

Choose an adhesive specifically for laying EPS boards

All layers of the insulation cake are hidden under decorative plaster

We warm ourselves from the inside

If the veranda looks aesthetically pleasing from the outside, and you do not want to change it appearance, then you can spend internal insulation... But, before insulating the veranda from the inside, it is necessary to carefully seal all the cracks (in a wooden building).

Work progress:

  1. Stuff the crate.
  2. They fix a waterproofing film with a stapler, which will not let moisture from the street into the insulation.
  3. Mount metal carcass from the profiles, on which drywall is then fixed.
  4. The frame is filled with mineral wool.
  5. Cover the insulation with a vapor barrier film.
  6. Plasterboard is mounted.
  7. Apply topcoat (putty, paint).

The distance between the metal profiles must match the width of the insulation sheets

We check the tightness of the installation of windows, doors

Large heat losses can come from windows and doors. If there are old wooden windows on your veranda, but you do not want to change them to double-glazed windows, then you need to thoroughly check their tightness:

  • First of all, we pay attention to the quality of the glazing of the veranda: for this we pull each glazing bead.
  • If they are cracked or loose, then it is better to take out all the glass, clean the grooves and coat them with silicone sealant.
  • Then we insert the glass back and apply the sealant along the edge.
  • Press with glazing beads (new!).

Walk with an ordinary metal ruler at the joints of the frame and the window opening. If in some places it passes freely, it means that these slots must be sealed with polyurethane foam. Check the front door in the same way. If you bought a non-insulated version, you will have to insulate the canvas from the inside and upholstery with leatherette yourself.

Sealing the glass on both sides with sealant will make it windproof

All places where the ruler moves freely must be foamed

Eliminate warm air leaks through the ceiling

It remains to figure out how to insulate the ceiling, because a significant part of the heat evaporates from the wooden veranda through it. Especially if it opens entrance door... A stream of cold air rushing inward instantly squeezes up warm air.

The best option is to lay out foil-coated foamed polymer between the beams, which will simultaneously keep warm and prevent moisture from passing through.

You can also choose mineral wool, but then the roofing material is put in the first layer for vapor barrier, and on it - insulation plates.

Roofing material is laid under mineral wool for waterproofing

After such a thorough insulation, your veranda will withstand any frost, even if it is unheated.

Country houses are in vogue today. Someone is the happy owner of a summer residence, and many even prefer to live away from the bustle of the city. Of course, everyone strives to make their homes more comfortable and beautiful, so they decorate them with verandas and terraces. These extensions must be distinguished. If you do not go into the essence, the terrace is an open area without walls, and the veranda is part of the house, but, as a rule, without heating.

In the summer, such rooms are good for various gatherings, but with the onset of the cold season they stop being used. However, you can not deny yourself and your loved ones in the usual pastime. Warming the veranda will help keep it cozy at any time of the year. Of course, it is best to think about this at the construction stage, but even in a finished purchased house or in a veranda attached later, you can correct the situation.

So, there is no point in insulating the terrace, but you can take care of the comfort on the veranda. As a rule, insulation is a set of measures aimed at improving the heat-saving properties of walls, windows, ceilings, but you need to start from the floor, because the cold rises from below.

The procedure will depend on how the floor is made, which can be concrete, laid on a solid foundation, as well as wooden on supports.

Insulation from below

Floor insulation on a concrete base

  1. By doing concrete foundation for the future veranda, you need to start work with backfill of sand and gravel cushion. River sand (or another, the main thing - so as not to be fine and without clay impurities) is poured into a pit for the foundation and rammed. Then comes a layer of crushed stone or gravel, which also needs to be tamped.
Such a pillow will prevent the cold coming from below to the concrete slab and will protect it from capillary moisture that can rise through channels less than 0.5 mm wide. The thickness of the layers of sand and stone depends on the type of soil and structures being built.
  2. Over stone for more durability lay reinforcing mesh from rods with a section of 10-12 mm and the foundation is poured with a mortar based on frost-resistant concrete.
  3. The concrete is covered with a layer of waterproofing: roofing material or similar material, and on top of it is laid insulation layer... For example, you can take mineral wool boards.
  4. Insulation, in turn, is also covered a layer of waterproofing film, and already on top of all this "pie" reinforced concrete slabs are laid or a reinforced screed is made.

Such a foundation will be a good barrier to the cold rising from the ground, and will also protect the veranda from dampness. In addition, the concrete floor allows additional measures for insulation.

Floor insulation on supports or piles

With this type of foundation, the floor is usually made of wood. Air circulates underneath, so it will be very cold on the veranda in winter.

  1. Warming begins with measures to block access to the cold air veranda. To do this, formwork must be built along the perimeter of the floor, marked with supports.
  2. The second step is to backfill the formed underground with expanded clay. On top of it, you can lay a film for vapor barrier and additionally lay insulation. Of course, before such actions, you will need to remove the existing floor.

Insulation of the basement

External basement insulation is another way to keep the veranda warm. In addition, the soil, expanding or decreasing in volume under the influence of air temperature, can deform the foundation. Such a problem is solved quite simply, by pasting the base around the entire perimeter with insulation. Usually these are expanded polystyrene plates, which will become an obstacle to the cold, and also prevent contact with the ground.

A less budgetary, but more reliable option would be to use extruded polystyrene foam, which has the required strength, is not afraid of moisture and cold, and its service life is more than 50 years. Before gluing the insulation boards, the foundation is coated with bitumen or bitumen-polymer mastic, which is not afraid of low temperatures.

There is another option to insulate the base, the newest, most expensive, but also reliable. This is polyurethane foam spraying. The liquid base is sprayed with special equipment on the walls, and after drying, the foam becomes solid, monolithic, without a single seam.

Insulation on top

Such methods are good when you can't get to the bottom of the foundation, but you still want to make the floor warm. However, even with an insulated foundation, thermal insulation measures will also not be superfluous. The main feature of all works with a finished floor is raising its level, which occurs due to the installation of various heat-insulating materials.

Insulation of a concrete floor

Warm floor system

Since the veranda is not heated, this solution is ideal for maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature. Moreover, an electrical system is recommended, not a water one, since the cable is not afraid of frost, which cannot be said about pipes with water.

Quite a time consuming, but reliable option, which requires the use of durable insulation material in the form of plates or mats. It can be expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene foam, mineral wool.

Wood flooring can be very beautiful, and country houses it is often customary to decorate with just such coatings. Wooden floors can be installed on any base, while taking care of the insulation.

One of the options for insulation is sprayed materials. This is quite expensive and requires specialists to do the job using special equipment. The use of such a heater will require cleaning the floor from debris, bitumen drips, greasy stains and solvents. It is not necessary to lay transverse beams between the logs - the future spraying will form a fairly dense heat-insulating layer. Foam is applied with a special device that mixes a special liquid composition with carbon dioxide and sprays it under pressure.

The crate filled with insulation must be covered with another layer of foil or foam, a relatively new material, which is polyethylene foam on an aluminized substrate. It is laid with the substrate upward and slightly crushed into the cells so that there is space for floor ventilation.
Now you can lay boards treated with an antiseptic on top, attaching them with self-tapping screws. Boards are located perpendicular to the logs, but instead of them, if desired, plywood or sheets of gypsum fiber board is laid, and only then - the topcoat.

Thermal insulation of a wooden floor

There is an opinion that it is easier to insulate a wooden floor than a concrete one, but this is not entirely true. Of course, you don't have to do the screed, but you still need to work hard.

Infrared floor heating

This is an alternative electric cablewhich fits into the screed layer and is therefore not suitable for wooden floors. The only requirement that must be observed for laying such a system is the non-toxicity of the floor materials when heated, but otherwise this is a good option for keeping the veranda warm.

This method is the main one when insulating wooden floors. In terms of the sequence of actions, it is similar to that previously described, only the foundation is prepared differently.

In addition to all the previously described methods, you can use the flooring of special types of linoleum or laminate that are able to retain heat, as well as carpet.

Warming the floor on the veranda is the best thing to do in the process of building this extension, however, with a special desire, you can start work at any time. This is not to say that the complex of actions is extremely simple and accessible to anyone. The ability to hold a hammer in your hands alone will not be enough to get the job done, but those who are confident in their abilities and have even a little, but still construction experience, can do everything on their own.

The main thing is to choose the most suitable materials in terms of price and quality, because the success of any repair consists of two components: the skill of the workers and the quality of the tools and tools used.

Do-it-yourself veranda insulation from the inside is quite in demand in the harsh climate of Russia. Owners often want to warm up an additional room in the country or in their home. Otherwise, the unheated veranda will freeze and damp, and because of this, the finish will quickly deteriorate.

A competent approach to the construction of a veranda requires its insulation even at the beginning of construction. But if the house has been purchased, do-it-yourself insulation of the terrace should be done if necessary.

The veranda is insulated in any season of the year.

The structure can be finished:

  • Outside. Such work is best done only in good weather: when it is easier to work, and the materials used will not be damaged.
  • From the inside. This method is useful in cool and even cold weather. In this case, you can immediately:
  1. insulate the veranda;
  2. prepare a good base for interior decoration.

After the room gets warm, you can gather here in winter with the whole family and friends over a cup of warm coffee.

What material is chosen for insulation

The best option for finishing the veranda can be:

  • Minvata.
  • Styrofoam. But if it unexpectedly comes into contact with fire, rather dangerous carcinogens will be released, which should not be ignored. However, the relatively low price makes the material available for insulating such a room. Polyfoam is a budget option.
  • As an additional material, you can use a foam foam gasket. Its metallized layer will be able to reflect cool air from the street, and heat will remain inside the veranda. This material is a high-tech, heat-insulating agent, consisting of an interlayer made of polyethylene foam and high-quality aluminum foil covering it. Such a "reflective" layer can also be used as a separate independent thermal insulation. But for the maximum effect, to preserve heat, it is precisely the combination of penophenol with other types of insulation that is necessary.
  • Effective options for insulating a building with your own hands are polyurethane foam, basalt wool, rezole foam... These materials do not burn.

Details about insulation

How to insulate the foundation

Tip: For the veranda, choose a foundation of the same type as the main building - concrete slabs, in-situ concrete, or a strip base.

The base material absolutely does not block the cold coming into winter period from the ground, so the foundation can freeze through. Through it, heat losses reach up to 20%. There are several ways to insulate cold veranda, namely its base.

This could be:

  • Backfilling with earth or expanded clay of the internal space.

Such options are used only when erecting a veranda, when foundation work is being carried out. For this:

  1. the formwork is removed;
  2. the entire internal site is covered with expanded clay or earth, which will cost quite cheaply, especially when there is excess soil left after construction. But at the same time, the quality of its heat saving is low.

The expanded clay layer does not allow moisture and frost to pass into the concrete slab. Expanded clay has greater thermal insulation, but it will need to be purchased, which will increase costs.

Tip: To isolate the base, a double layer should be made: the first is covered with soil, and then expanded clay pebbles are laid.

  • Pasting with expanded polystyrene.

In the presence of heaving soil, it is necessary to carry out external insulation of the walls of the foundation with expanded polystyrene. This is due to the deformation of the base, which occurs due to the expansion of the soil in volume during periodic thawing and freezing.

In this case, the layer of insulation plays the role of an insulator that relieves the base from direct contact with the ground and blocks frost. Plates of expanded polystyrene are pasted over the entire outer surface of concrete, including the base.

Tip: Before the expanded polystyrene is glued, the entire foundation must be covered with mastic for waterproofing, as shown in the photo.

The order of work is as follows:

  • Polystyrene is laid on the outside of the foundation, which is dug out to the very base.
  • The first row is mounted on gravel bed.
  • The base is coated with bitumen-polymer mastic accretely for the waterproofing layer.
  • After drying, polystyrene foam boards are glued.
  • The adhesive composition is selected from polyurethane, which is applied in dots or the entire sheet is lubricated.
  • Between the slabs, the joints are taken with glue, which will make it possible to avoid cold bridges and relieve the base of cracks into which moisture can penetrate.

Most new way external insulation - polyurethane foam spraying. It consists of liquid components and is sprayed onto the foundation with special equipment. After complete curing, the coating acquires density, becomes monolithic and sufficiently strong.

According to its characteristics, the composition is not inferior to extruded polystyrene foam, although the cost of work is much higher. At the same time, there are no joints, which improves the quality of thermal insulation.

How to insulate floors

The closest to the ground, in addition to the foundation, are floors. They must be insulated without fail in order to avoid the appearance of black spots of dampness in the corners.

The floors on verandas are usually filled with concrete. When planning a heating device using a "warm floor" system, it should be carried out on initial stage pouring floors.

In this case, it is better to choose an electrical system that turns on as needed. At sufficiently low temperatures, the water floor can freeze, and freeze only in the spring, or it will be necessary to dismantle the coating to warm up existing pipes.

If there are old tiles on the veranda, the insulation can be put directly on it.

The procedure for insulating floors in an unheated room is as follows:

  • The entire area of the underground is covered with gravel.
  • Sand is poured on top and carefully compacted.
  • Reinforcement rods are laid out or a mesh is laid, which will protect the concrete from cracks.
  • Is done concrete screed five centimeters thick.
  • After the pouring hardens, a waterproofing layer is created. The easiest way is to make a screed coated with water-repellent mastic. However, a less costly option is to lay roofing sheets and fasten them bituminous mastic or roll them in, preheating them with a burner.
  • On top of the waterproofing, logs are mounted, impregnated with an antiseptic, and a heater is laid between them, which can be foil mineral wool on one side. The foil prevents infrared radiation from leaving the room, which escapes a lot of heat. Insulation rolls are laid after installing all the logs.
  • Insulation can also be performed with expanded polystyrene. In this case, the joints between the plates are blown out with polyurethane foam, and the excess material is cut off after drying.
  • Planks or decking are laid.

Tip: All wooden parts must be carefully treated with antiseptics, which protect them from decay, and then painted with a protective compound.

  • To avoid dampness, which the tree is very afraid of, good ventilation is organized. For this, ventilation vents are made in the foundation, located below the floor level.
  • Foil is placed upside down, which prevents heat from reflecting back to the veranda.
  • Decking does not require ventilation in the underground - it does not deteriorate due to temperature changes and the appearance of dampness. Decking is a board, but previously processed with compounds at the factory. Larch is used for its manufacture; it is not afraid of frost and moisture. Outdoor terraces are usually lined with this material. But, the cost of such a floor covering is quite high.

How to insulate the walls of the veranda

The walls of such a room are usually insulated from the inside, and from the outside only to give the veranda a presentable look.

When insulating wooden walls, it is necessary:

  • Close up all the cracks in the building.
  • Fill a tree with a vertical crate with a step of elements up to 0.5 meters.

Tip: When stuffing the strips, measure the width of the insulation, and then fill them exactly according to its dimensions. In this case, all slabs will fit snugly against the crate.

  • Mineral wool is installed between the slats, which is attached with an umbrella-dowel.
  • A waterproofing film is fixed on top with a stapler.
  • The surface is finished with clapboard, siding or other finishing material (see).

Do-it-yourself veranda insulation from block walls:

How to check the tightness of the installation of windows and doors

If we insulate the veranda with our own hands, we must make sure that there is no heat loss from windows and doors. When installed on the veranda of old wooden windows, you will need to carefully check their tightness.

For this:

  • Attention is drawn to the quality of the installation of glazing beads, which you just need to pull.
  • If they are cracked or began to stagger, all glass must be removed, the grooves must be cleaned, and then their surfaces must be coated with silicone sealant.
  • The glasses are inserted backwards and a sealant is applied around the edge.
  • They are pressed with new glazing beads.

At the joints of the window opening and the frame, you need to walk with an ordinary metal ruler. Where it passes freely, there are slots that must be sealed with polyurethane foam. The front door is checked in the same way.

How to insulate the ceiling of the veranda

A significant part of the heat can escape through the ceiling, which requires insulation. The best option might be to lay out foamed polymer foam between the beams, which will simultaneously retain heat and prevent moisture from passing through.

You can also use mineral wool, but in this case the first layer will be roofing material and serve as a vapor barrier, and insulation plates are laid on it.
