• A stiff steel bristle brush is an old proven method of cleaning metal surfaces.
• Sandpaper can do this job perfectly. But you need to use the toughest sandpaper.

After the cleaning procedure, the metal surface is covered with a layer of primer. After it has completely dried, you can use one of the painting methods:

• Rounded brush with stiff bristles. The process is long, laborious, requiring special care.
• It is easier to paint with aerosol paint from cans. Particular attention should be paid to coloring the edge so as not to stain nearby surfaces.

Painting wooden gates

To make the putty harden better, PVA glue is added to it in a ratio of 1: 3. After drying, the surface is polished, covered with a layer of linseed oil, and then two or three layers of paint are applied, allowing each to dry completely.

If it is planned to open the wooden gate with varnish, then the irregularities should be repaired in other ways:

• Stitching is suitable for removing shallow dents. Sharp edges are simply rounded off with a sandpaper, and after applying a layer of varnish, they will become invisible.
• To make an inlay with your own hands, you need maximum attention and patience. To begin with, the pothole needs to be given some kind of geometric shape, according to the size of which an insert must be cut in a piece of wood, taking into account the direction of the fibers. The cut out insert is glued in place of the potholes and clamped with a clamp until the glue is completely dry. The edges of the restored piece are carefully sanded.
• The knotting method is used where voids from rotten knots have formed on the gate leaves. The restoration site must be reamed out. Now into the resulting rounded shape, you need to drive in a piece of a branch cut in the shape of a cone and smeared with glue. Cut and sand all irregularities.

To carry out such work, you need to be patient, especially in cases where there is no carpentry skills. But the effort will not be in vain. Lacquered gates always look neat, beautiful and rich.
