Economic assessment of roof waterproofing with liquid rubber.

Reliability and durability flat roofs guarantees the use of modern building technologies and materials, such as liquid rubber. Such roofs are distinguished by: waterproofness, non-flammability, ease of installation and maintenance, long service life.

For soft roofs, there are 2 types of work:

1. Overhaul roofing - includes the complete removal of the old waterproofing (usually: roofing felt) coating, repair of the screed, laying a new roofing carpet.
2. Routine repair of the roof - consists in replacing defective areas of the old roofing material, filling holes and cracks and laying new material.

Example 2. Overhaul of a flat roof.

Number of aerators 1-2 pcs. 50-100 sq. m. The cost of one standard roof aerator is 700 rubles / piece. The cost of installation work is 350-400 rubles / piece.

In places of blisters, make a cross-shaped cut (opening with an "envelope"), fold back the cloth, thoroughly clean the base, dry it with a gas burner flame and apply mastic both on the base and on the carpet cloth. The folded edges of the carpet are then returned to their place and pressed. For this operation, it is advisable to use ready-made cold mastics.

The cost of one-component mastic is 250 rubles / kg, consumption is 1.5-2.0 kg / sq m.

Places where the roll material has completely rotted must be cut out. Thoroughly clean the resulting recess, fill with a cement-sand mortar.

The more accurately the felling takes place, the less you may have to repair the screed. To repair a cement-sand screed, a solution of a grade of at least 150 is used. 8-10 days after laying, the screed is primed. Bituminous polymer mastic (liquid rubber, without hardener) is used as a primer.
Consumption 0.5 kg per 1 sq. m, the price is 125 rubles / kg.

Reinforcement increases strength, but reduces the elasticity of the mastic coating, so it is necessary to understand what is preferable for this roof. Reinforcement can be performed only at individual nodes (usually abutments and mates).

Reinforcement is done as follows. By spraying, a thin layer of Liquid rubber (without hardener) is applied, with a consumption of 0.3-0.5 kg, geotextiles are laid and rolled to ensure a snug fit to the base over the entire surface, then a thin layer of Liquid rubber is applied on top - consumption 0.5 kg / sq m for the impregnation of geotextiles, exposure until completely dry for 2-5 hours.

After carrying out all of the above work, the main waterproofing coating (liquid rubber) is installed.

Bitumen-polymer mastic is applied by spraying; for this work, equipment of the RX series for liquid rubber is used.

Consumption of bitumen-polymer mastic is 3.0 kg per 1 square meter to ensure a waterproofing layer of at least 2 mm.

The cost of 1 kg is 155 rubles.

Example 3. Repair of a flat crawl in an industrial building 20x30 m.

The total coverage area is 600 sq m.
Old roofing material. The roof has bulges with a total area of 100 sq m.
When the blisters were removed (cut), depressions 30 mm deep were formed.

Today, in the "do it yourself" section, we will consider how to independently repair a soft roof with our own hands - bituminous coatings, roofing material, euroruberoid, PVC and EPDM membrane - materials of the Alchimica trademark (Greece). Immediately, we note that not every old waterproofing coating can be covered with liquid rubber.

Photo 1. Bad roof Photo 2. Good roof

In the photo, both roofs are leaking. But, in photo 1, the old waterproofing is subject to complete dismantling with the subsequent repair of the roofing pie. And in photo 2 - the old coating is a good base for applying liquid rubber.

Do-it-yourself soft roof repair - Technology and stages of work

1. Surface cleaning

The surface must be clean - no debris, dirt and dust, for this you can use a broom, brush or industrial vacuum cleaner.

2. Surface repair

1) Cut out rotten and water-soaked areas (if any) ➔ Seal with repair mixture flush with the old waterproofing.
2) Cut the areas of blistering roofing material crosswise ➔ open the roofing material ➔ let the screed dry (if the screed needs repair, it must be done) ➔ apply a layer on the screed (consumption 0.6 ÷ 0.9 kg / sq. M) ➔ drown (glue) roofing material.
3) Carefully examine the seams and joints of the old coating.
4) Reinforce the repair areas, seams, abutments: apply Hyperdesmo AshAA to the repair area at a rate of 0.6 kg / m2 ➔ drown the canvas in a fresh layer of waterproofing with at least 5 cm outside the repair area
5) For defective seams and abutments, also perform reinforcement. You can seal small cracks-gaps with a sealant.

3. Application of waterproofing (1st layer)

Apply only to dry and clean surfaces. Hyperdesmo ASHAA can be applied with a brush, bristle brush, roller (short and medium bristle) or airless spray equipment (working pressure> 200 bar). Consumption of Hyperdesmo AshAA mastic should be 0.7 ÷ 1 kg / m2, for this you can conditionally divide the area into small areas, and roll out the bucket around the areas.

4. Application of waterproofing (2nd layer)

The application of the second coat is possible as soon as the first coat is walkable (6 ÷ 48 hours). Before applying the second coat, carry out visual inspection (control) of the surface for how the first layer was laid. If small cracks, cracks, "holes" are detected, seal them with Hypersil 25 LM sealant ➔ apply a second layer of liquid rubber Hyperdesmo AshAA at a rate of 0.7 ÷ 1 kg / sq.m.

The total consumption of Hyperdesmo AshAA for bituminous, roofing felt, roll coatings should be 2 kg / sq.m. If you applied waterproofing along the upper border (1 kg / sq.m), then you go to a total consumption of 2 kg / sq.m when performing work in 2 layers. If you walked along the lower border (0.7 kg / m2), then you still have to apply the third layer. We recommend the second option (three layers of 0.7 kg / m2). Yes, this option increases the time of work execution, but at the same time you have one more interlayer surface control.

Rubber paint Is an environmentally friendly, breathable coating for indoor and outdoor use. A distinctive feature of rubber paint is superelasticity, heat resistance, adhesion (sticking) to all known materials, resistance to ultraviolet radiation, resistance to adverse conditions (increased dampness, temperature drops, impact, abrasion), containment of substrate cracks.

Rubber paint has this name because the paint film is flexible and can be rolled, bent, and will not break. The paint has an unusual composition; it does not contain toxic solvents and components. The paint does not have a pungent odor, does not burn, does not irritate the skin and can be used in closed rooms without the risk of poisoning.

The paint was developed in order to obtain a reliable waterproofing of the surface. It should be noted that the protective elastic layer is vapor permeable, i.e. will not interfere with the evaporation of moisture remaining in the structure of the painted material. At the same time, the paint retains its outstanding performance characteristics for more than 10 years.

High UV resistance and various colors allow the rubber paint to be used as additional protective and decorative coating for liquid rubber.

Applications of rubber paint

Rubber paint is distinguished by its versatility, we note its main application possibilities.

For waterproofing floors in rooms with high humidity (baths, showers, toilets, etc.). In the event of an accident, water will not penetrate through the ceiling into the apartment below, which will save you from unnecessary expenses. And the walls and floor will not become waterlogged during the operation of the room.

For waterproofing open concrete pools. The coating creates a film resistant to temperature changes on the surface, which also prevents moisture from penetrating into the structure of the concrete layer.

Concrete floors in corridors, rooms adjacent to the pool, shower rooms are also often covered with rubber paint. The coating makes the surface neat and non-slip, easy to clean from dirt.

Open balconies, verandas and terraces. Moreover, the composition can be applied to both concrete and wooden surfaces.

To protect the basement and blind area from moisture. The paint will create a smooth, waterproof coating over which water can flow easily without penetrating the base of the building. This will protect the foundation from premature destruction, especially if it is built of materials that are hygroscopic.

For the repair and protection of slate roofs. As you know, slate has a rough structure, so dust and dirt can linger on its surface. Stagnation in certain zones leads to the appearance of lichens that destroy the slate cover. Therefore, more and more owners of private houses, not yet having the opportunity to change the slate for more practical covercover the roof with rubber paint. It creates a smooth protective layer, so water and dust will not become trapped on the surface, and the roof remains clean.

For metal roofing repairs, the coating will reliably protect the metal from corrosion.

Fences made of reinforced concrete, wood and metal can also be painted with rubber paint. This layer will not only protect the surface from destruction, but also give the structure an aesthetic appearance... For the coating, you can choose a color that will harmonize well with the facade of the house.

Paving slabs covered with rubber paint do not deteriorate from frost and water, and their excellent appearance will delight owners for many years.

The wooden surface covered with rubber paint will be reliably protected from rotting and mold formation, as well as drying out under the influence of ultraviolet rays and high temperatures in the summer.

Another area of application of rubber paint is anticorrosive treatment of cars, which combines both protective and decorative components. The rubber layer has high resilience and elasticity, due to which the coating is not sensitive to mechanical damage.

Specifications of rubber paint

Drying time "On touch" - 30 - 40 minutes, until solid state 1.5 - 3 hours (depending on temperature and humidity).

Dry residue - not less than 70%.

Density~ 1.1 kg = 1 l

Shine - semi-matt.

Approximate consumption of rubber paint (in 2 layers)

Tool cleaning - water with soda and soap or detergents

Resistance to washing - increased

Weather resistance - excellent, even in an industrial environment

Storage- protect from freezing. Store in an airtight, tightly closed container. The guaranteed shelf life in unopened original packaging is 24 months from the date of production.

Toxicity - environmentally friendly, odorless.

Colour - depends on the collector.

Rubber paint technology

The paint rubber coating will serve for a long time only if the technology of its application is observed. If the rules are not followed, then you can get the opposite effect and the need to re-repair the surface.

Application of rubber paint can only be performed on a previously cleaned and dry surface, at an ambient temperature of at least +5 degrees. Work must not be carried out in the rain, in very hot weather and in direct sunlight.

There are various ways of applying paint: brush, roller, spray gun.

For painting large surfaces, a roller is well suited (we recommend a velor roller with a short nap).

When using a spray gun, use a nozzle with a minimum diameter of 2 mm. If the paint is too thick, then it must be diluted with soil or water (no more than 5%). The principle of applying paint is the same as when using other paints.

Coloring must be done in at least 2 layers. Splashes of paint flying off the brush must be removed very quickly with a damp cloth, without allowing them to dry. If, after the paint has dried, unpainted areas are visible on the wall surface, then they can be eliminated by covering with another layer of rubber paint.

Foreword... Slavyanka bitumen-polymer mastic is a fully ready-to-use coating waterproofing. It is a mixture of a homogeneous black mass, characterized by liquid rubber by the formation of an elastic coating after drying. Consider in the article the technical characteristics of Slavyanka mastic, the technology of applying liquid two-component rubber and the consumption of Slavyanka waterproofing per 1 square meter.

Scope of application of the coating waterproofing Slavyanka

Photo. Slavyanka coating waterproofing

Slavyanka® mastic is used to protect metal, concrete or reinforced concrete materials and other building structures from moisture. Also used for the treatment of living quarters with high humidity from the inside - waterproofing basement walls, inspection pits, bathrooms, etc. Slavyanka liquid two-component rubber is also suitable for waterproofing pipelines, septic tanks and other containers for various purposes.

Application technology involves temperature regime from -10C to + 50C, the temperature of the material must exceed + 15C. For convenience, the mastic can be diluted with an organic solvent to the required consistency, but not more than 20% of the total weight of the mixture. Since the dilution of liquid rubber produced by "Rastro" over 20% deteriorates the technical characteristics of the resulting waterproofing film on the treated surface.

Description of bitumen-polymer waterproofing Slavyanka

Slavyanka® mastic is a coating waterproofing, manufactured by Rastro, is a one-component ready-to-use bitumen-polymer composition. Technologists manufacturing company Rastro is constantly improving the company's products, improving its characteristics and performance, expanding the scope of Slavyanka waterproofing, in a word, doing everything to ensure the optimal price-quality ratio.

Slavyanka® mastic coating waterproofing is a bitumen-polymer composition of pasty consistency of black color. When dry, the liquid waterproofing creates a thin layer of rubbery membrane. During storage, sediment may form, which does not affect the composition indicators. Before use, the mastic should be mixed and, if necessary, diluted with a solvent to the required consistency.

Advantages of Slavyanka waterproofing:

- the possibility of using mastic at low temperatures;
- good adhesion properties to any materials and high elasticity;
- chemical resistance in aggressive environments and the strength of the resulting layer;
- high viscosity allows the application of liquid rubber to vertical surfaces.

Limitations and disadvantages of Slavyanka mastic:

- it is prohibited to use bitumen-polymer mastic inside residential premises;
- it is prohibited to use in liquid organic media: oil, oil products;
- do not use as an adhesive for expanded polystyrene and materials based on it;
- it is prohibited to apply on a surface not cleaned from dirt, dust and greasy stains.

We have considered all the pros and cons of Slavyanka waterproofing, it remains only to add that the manufacturer reserves the right to change the technical characteristics of Slavyanka liquid rubber and the technology of its application without prior notice, in order to improve product performance. The manufacturer is not responsible for defects resulting from violation of the instructions.

Waterproofing Slavyanka: technical characteristics

- heat resistance up to 140 degrees Celsius;
- material viscosity from 140 mm to 180 mm;
- material elongation at break up to 1000%;
- tensile strength reaches 1.5 MPa;
- use temperature from –10 to + 50C.

Table. Specifications waterproofing Slavyanka

Work should be carried out in well-ventilated areas, away from sources of fire or in the open air, since the mastic contains flammable substances. If the mastic gets on the skin, it is necessary to remove the composition with a cloth, then the Slavyanka coating waterproofing should be washed off with soap and water. Application technology prohibits the use bituminous mastic inside living rooms.

Slavyanka waterproofing: application technology

It is more convenient to apply the mastic on a vertical surface with a roller, brush or by spraying. On a horizontal surface, for example, when waterproofing flat roofs, it is possible to pour the mixture with subsequent leveling on the surface with a mop or spatula. Foundations that require backfilling with soil can be backfilled after the mastic has completely dried, in order to avoid damage to the layer.

Surface preparation for applying mastic

As in the case of independent application of TechnoNIKOL waterproofing coating, you should clean the surface to be treated from dirt, rust, greasy stains and similar contaminants. If necessary, repairs are carried out, all chips and cracks on the concrete surface are repaired before applying the mastic. Then the surface is dried and liquid rubber is applied to it with a brush or spray.

If necessary, apply another layer of insulation on the dried first layer. The thickness of the finished layer should be no more than 2 millimeters. In hot weather, the mastic is applied in 4-5 passes, in layers of no more than 0.5 mm. One hour after application, the coating resists rain, but the final cure time of liquid rubber depends on the material of the substrate to be treated, weather conditions and the thickness of the waterproofing layer.

Waterproofing Slavyanka: consumption per m2

Average consumption of Slavyanka® mastic per 1 sq.m. when creating a layer with a thickness of 1 mm, it is about 1.39 kg / m² (1.39 kilograms of the finished mixture per 1 square meter of the treated surface). To accurately calculate the required amount of material, use online calculator waterproofing consumption on our website. Next, see the video, applying liquid two-component rubber to a flat roof.

The use of liquid sprayed or spreadable waterproofing compounds when repairing or arranging roofs is an excellent alternative to any modern materials... They provide unique characteristics of tightness, adhesion to the substrate, strength, wear resistance and UV resistance. The only operational drawback is the difficulty in dismantling, the general is a high price (from 300 rubles / m2), other indicators are superior or not inferior soft roof... Applied by hand or mechanized way, products are freely available.

Description of material, scope

The term "liquid rubber" is not entirely accurate, the basis here is modified bitumen and polymers, and not rubber. Its coating was obtained due to the high elasticity of the film formed after drying and its absolute waterproofness. The characteristic parameters include the absence of seams, environmental friendliness, resistance to corrosive, biological and mechanical influences and UV, high adhesion and the ability to restore the structure of rolled bitumen products.

The scope of use of this type of roofing includes new and reconstructed surfaces from monolithic and prefabricated reinforced concrete, metal, screeds, slate, wood, roll materials and all types of tiles. The angle of inclination does not matter, but the maximum economic effect is achieved when processing large areas of flat roofs (including operated ones) and when implementing projects with a complex configuration and a large number of abutments. Liquid rubber is indispensable when you need to quickly repair damage or seal any seams and joints. The only limitation is the difficulty or impossibility of dismantling, some brands penetrate deep into the base and are removed only by chemical dissolution.

Types and characteristics

Depending on the composition and method of application, there are:

 1. A two-component liquid sprayed roof consisting of a bitumen-polymer emulsion and a hardener, cold or hot joined. This type is installed using airless sprayers and is unambiguously justified for areas over 100 m2.
 2. One-component, direct-apply primers, mastics and gels with polymer additives. Sold both in buckets and in small containers. The latter are justified when carrying out repairs or restoration, sealing individual adjacent structures, and eliminating defects.

Depending on the performance characteristics, they are conditionally divided into:

 1. Conventional brands, laid at positive temperatures, and all-season, mounted in any weather.
 2. Emulsions sprayed in liquid form and more viscous mastics, spread over the roof with a brush, roller or trowel.
 3. Tintable or single color stamps.
 4. Normal or enhanced with polymerization accelerators and other modifiers.

Review of popular brands

 • LKM CCCP.

It has a universal scope, it is recommended to purchase it for both repair and full protection of any roofs, including those in use. It is applied manually or mechanically, after drying, forms an elastic, seamless coating characterized by excellent resistance to moisture, ultraviolet light, temperature extremes from -70 to +100 ° C, mechanical stress and cracking. Has high adhesion to all surfaces and complies with standards fire safety (flammability group G1). The advantage over other brands and analogues is the possibility of tinting in any desired color with the original white and the addition of natural cork in order to improve the insulating and decorative properties.

 • Blockade.

The line for outdoor works from the leading manufacturer of insulating materials LLC IK "Voskhod" is represented by ready-to-apply polyurethane compounds that, after drying, form a strong, highly adhesive and resistant to most external influences film. Reviews about the blockade waterproofing are extremely positive, its advantages include a high proportion of dry residue (up to 98%), low consumption, no cracks when the layer dries for 6 hours, providing additional anti-corrosion protection and resistance to abrasive substances and mechanical damage. This line includes both universal and specialized waterproofing mixtures.

If it is necessary to repair or process at subzero temperatures, an all-season coating is used; if you want to speed up the polymerization process, you can buy a mastic with a hardener.

 • Technoprok two-component liquid rubber.

It is sprayed over the surface using special equipment, its use is optimal when it is necessary to finish large areas, including operated roofs. It is appreciated for its economical consumption (one 200 l barrel is enough for a roof of 60 m2), affordable cost, good extensibility and recovery rates, fire and environmental safety, and high installation speed. Despite the need for a catalyst addition, this type of coating is not heated, the use of a special technique eliminates any errors in dilution and application. As a result, a team of several people processes at least 1000 m2 in 1 shift. After quick drying, a seamless film with good strength, moisture and sound insulation properties is formed.

Another two-component airless bitumen type with exceptional hydrophobic properties. It is used for roofs of any complexity, foundations, floors in rooms with high humidity and even pool bowls. This brand is 10-20% more expensive than analogues, which is explained by good resistance to wear, ultraviolet radiation, mechanical stress and long service life. The warranty is 5 years, the durability reaches 25.

 • Fast repair.

The uniqueness lies in the absence of application restrictions: a one-component primer is applied to the work surface in any condition, regardless of weather conditions. When waterproofing large areas, it is distributed by the pouring method and shows good results in terms of wear resistance and durability (the guarantee for protective qualities is 12 years), but the maximum effect is achieved when carrying out renovation works and elimination of defects. Due to its gel-like consistency, this type of liquid roofing rubber covers difficult areas, including vertical and holes up to 3 mm. The second feature of the brand is the ability to displace moisture and completely fill the pores of the base, up to restoration useful properties old soft coatings.

This ready-made variety is recommended to buy when processing interpanel joints and roofs of residential, public, administrative and industrial facilities... With high requirements for surface cleanliness and weather conditions, Corundum is valued for its unique adhesion to any surfaces and economy, consumption does not exceed 1.2 kg per 1 m2. TO distinctive features include the presence of modifying additives that exclude the impact of biological threats on the protected structures. The declared service life is 15 years.
