If a person has a desire, basic skills, as well as a set simple tools, then a do-it-yourself baby bed is not a problem for him. Yes, you can buy ready-made furniture for your child. But there is an option to save money by doing the manufacturing bed for the baby alone.

In this article we will tell you how to make a crib for a child on your own. preschool age and show you the whole process step by step.

What should be a crib

Making a crib with your own hands must comply with the following rules:

  • only natural and environmentally friendly materials are used;
  • the bed has a reliable design;
  • devoid of potentially traumatic corners, protrusions, parts;
  • the surface is perfectly smooth, without roughness, chips;
  • corresponds to the parameters of the child;
  • completely eliminates the possibility of falling.

The benefits of making a bed with your own hands

The advantages of a do-it-yourself baby bed are:

  1. Confidence in the materials used in the manufacture of the crib. In the case of store products, information about the parameters is not always available.
  2. The design is developed according to your own parameters and requirements.
  3. In the process of manufacturing the product, you can independently verify the strength, which is especially important in the case of children jumping on a mattress.
  4. A do-it-yourself crib saves the family budget significantly
  5. You get incomparable pleasure from furniture made for your child yourself.

Bed design options: choose the right one

There are a large number of modifications to beds, but let's focus on the most popular:

  • with and without sides;
  • loft bed;
  • transformer.

Below we will consider the process of making a regular crib with legs with a headboard and footboard with our own hands. The option without tricks does not imply particularly difficult work and will not take much time.

Also, having understood the principle of work, you can, by analogy, make a crib for a newborn, baby or child from 3 years old.

How to make a bed with your own hands

Before you start purchasing materials and tools for a baby bed made of plywood or other materials, you need to carefully consider the entire process of creating this piece of furniture, to understand the basic elements.

  1. Frame. The parameters depend on the size of the bed and, accordingly, the mattress used. The main material in the manufacture is a dry board.
  2. Lamels. The product supports the mattress and is a base in the form of slats or plywood with ventilation holes.
  3. Sidewalls. Lattice or solid safety fences.
  4. Byltsa. Made from solid wood, chipboard or plywood. The height at the footboard is traditionally made lower than that of the headboard element.
  5. Legs. They can be made by yourself or purchased from a store. They are integral with the main structure or attached separately.

Drawings and diagrams

Start work by preparing a drawing, according to which the structure will be cut. Below we offer you options for ready-made drawings and diagrams that you can use.

To view the drawing in full size, right-click on the image and select the "open image in a new tab" command.

Materials and tools

The outer parts of the bed, visible to the eye, are made of MDF. You can choose wood, guided by the finances at your disposal. If the bed will often move or be transferred, it is worth giving preference to light wood species. A children's bed can also be made of plywood, which is installed on the frame. You will need edged and planed lumber in the form of a board and a bar, solid or in pieces.

You also need the following tool to work:

  • saw for woodworking;
  • milling cutter;
  • grinding machine;
  • drill;
  • corner;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • fasteners;
  • screeds;
  • screwdriver.

The first stage - the manufacture of legs

We start with the legs, making blanks from the timber. You can also contact the sawmill, ordering their manufacture there according to your size. You need 4 of each length.

Remember! The legs of the bed are longer in the headboard area and shorter on the side of the footboard.

We connect the blanks with glue and self-tapping screws.

The screws must be well sunk into the wood and coated with putty. After the product dries, all irregularities and joints are polished.

We begin work with the manufacture of legs. To do this, we take blanks in pairs, glue them evenly and twist them with self-tapping screws.

These are the finished legs for the crib. It remains only to putty.

The second stage - holes for dowels

To mount the backs, make a groove. Its width is 2.5 cm. Use a router or, in its absence, contact a carpenter. Dowels are easier to take ready-made, while choosing a drill of the appropriate diameter.

Having previously measured the exact distance and level on the slats, drill holes for the dowels at the ends of the slats. Control the immersion depth of the drill with the help of a beacon attached to it.

The third stage - the head and foot of the crib

From a board of 2.5 * 5 cm, it is necessary to cut planks of equal length in order to fill the head and foot with them. Next, insert them into a groove filled with glue.

We drill a hole in the leg, then mark the middle, attach and align the back. Then we mark the areas where the holes for the dowels will be drilled. We put a little adhesive material in them and insert the back. The canvas should sit tight, avoid gaps.

We attach the legs to the back of the bed.

The same process is repeated on the other leg. If an unaesthetic joint is formed, it is masked with a board, fixing it with self-tapping screws.

Ready-made footboard and headboard

The fourth stage is the basis for the mattress

We take two boards 5 * 10 cm along the length of the mattress, fasten the bar, which is shorter by 10 cm, to the screws and glue. We drill holes closer to the edge. Hats should be completely hidden in the end.

Installation of crib slats

We cut the slats and, in increments of 10 cm along the width of the mattress, we attach them to the slats with an emphasis with two self-tapping screws. Holes for fasteners are covered with putty, and subsequently, polished.

Fastening cross bars

In the extreme slats, you need to make cutouts for the legs of the crib.

Fifth stage - assembling the crib

Now we finally eliminate all the defects in the wooden parts of the crib (chips, cracks, etc.) by sealing with putty, then we grind it to smoothness.

The next step is priming and painting all the details.

All. It remains for us to connect the backs and the base under the mattress. Our crib, which we made for the baby with our own hands, is ready!

For fastening, use furniture fittings, which are sold in stores.

Baby Crib Decor Ideas

After finishing the main work, it's time to start decorating to give the bed a finished look.
Borders in terms of the implementation of decor represent a wide field for action. The decoration can be an original ornament or pattern, a print depicting your favorite characters. Using harmless acrylic or silicone paint in this case will allow you to add unusual touches.

You can upholster the product with furniture fabric, having previously made a pattern a couple of centimeters larger than the dimensions of the parts. The material is leveled to avoid bubbles, and fastened with a furniture stapler. This option will look harmoniously on a do-it-yourself crib for a girl.

You can paint the crib with special paint for furniture, which is safe for humans.

Coating the frame with varnish can also be attributed to the finishing methods. To do this, it is recommended to use products that dry quickly. All parts are sanded and polished.

So, we have analyzed the process of making a crib with our own hands. If something remains unclear and you have questions, ask in the comments below. We will definitely answer them.

From the first days, I want to surround the child with all the best, safe, reliable, and most importantly, such that it will serve faithfully for many years until the baby grows up.To do this, as a rule, natural materials are chosen that are not able to lay a “mine” for future oncological diseases, thereby protecting the child from the first days.

Parents always want their children to grow up in a healthy environment.

The crib is the baby's first fortress. It is there that he sleeps, enjoys life, begins to explore the world, studying everything that surrounds him.But how can you be sure that the covering and materials of the baby bed are safe? Just make it with your own hands.

It is very important to protect a fragile organism from the harmful effects of the external environment.

Smart dads with their hands in place know very well- You can only be sure of something when you have tried it and done it yourself. This is the main advantage of the product. Why is that? Let's do a little comparison.

Factory Homemade
Advantages Flaws Advantages Flaws
Do not waste time - go, buy or order Not always good quality Do you know what it's made of? Manufacturing is laborious and time consuming.
No guarantee of structural integrity Robust design - tested by myself
Coating is not always of high quality High-quality coating - I chose it myself
Often the surface of the product is not processed The surface is carefully cleaned - after all, the child will “crawl” on it

If you have certain skills, you can make a bed with your own hands.

Baby crib design and construction

The comfort of the room, how the child will like it, its convenience and the rational distribution of living space depend on the appearance of the children's bed.

Thus, design and construction are interconnected.

We all want something original and unusual, unusual for everyday life. But let's be realistic. Why complicate life with a fancy design of a baby bed in the form of a car, airplane, baby elephant or steamboat, if they are difficult to make? In addition, if there is no specialized tool, such as a thickness gauge, milling machine cnc, band saw and another? By choosing such a design, you can ruin all the wood without achieving what you want.

Let's dwell on a classic crib without frills and tricks, which, although difficult, is quite realistic to make from solid wood with your own hands.

The best material for a baby bed is solid wood

Wood is the most preferred material, has no contraindications, is absolutely inert. While chipboard, fiberboard, OSB, MDF and plywood include fillers that adversely affect the body, as well as poorly tolerate mechanical stress.

Wooden furniture is always a noble, natural and cozy accent in the interior.

The main feature of all these materials that negatively affect the use is the presence of formaldehyde, a chemical compound used in medicine for disinfection.As you can see, it is not for nothing that we advise you to choose wood mass. Required condition- well dried. Do not use damp boards, they will look back, you won’t have time: the structure will fall apart, the material will crack and unscrew. It is optimal if the wood has dried on the racks for three to four years, in a shaded place, sheltered from moisture.

But if there is none, then a machine-dried tree will do.

In addition to the boards you will need:

  • Self-tapping screws, bolts (for fixing parts);
  • Metal corners (will give additional rigidity to corner joints);
  • Timber, slats (for a mattress stand);
  • Lamels - flexible boards 15-20 mm thick, made of hard wood (oak, acacia).

Before starting a baby crib project, you need to purchase materials.

Tools - a reliable assistant to the master

The complexity of the work depends not only on the design of the product and materials, but also on the availability of tools. Having, in your arsenal, a real carpentry workshop, you can easily make any product. But what if there is nothing but a garage and a workbench? Can I get started?

No problem! Everything that any man needs. And we need:

  • Drill, with a set of drills for wood;
  • Planer for cleaning wooden blanks;
  • Hacksaw for cutting;
  • A set of needle files for grooves.

A necessary set of tools, without which the entire project of work would be impossible.

The presence of a manual milling machine will greatly facilitate the work of assembling a crib, but if it is not there, we will get by with the listed ones.

Application manual router makes the job easier.

Some features of joinery

To make the furniture reliable, special carpentry joints are used in its manufacture. Unlike the usual nail or self-tapping fasteners, such fasteners are more resistant to loosening, do not “break apart”, and resist mechanical damage well.

The main task of choosing a connection method is decorative, the desire to make it beautiful, inconspicuous.

Such a connection consists of a blind or through groove and a shank that freely enters the groove. Fasten them with wood glue. The size of each groove and shank is selected individually, based on the thickness of the wooden workpiece (rail, beam, board).

When such a connection is made taking into account the location of the wood fibers, its texture, it seems that the product is made from a single piece of wood.

First, mark the boundaries of the groove or shank with a pencil. Then, with a hacksaw, an incision of the required depth for the shank is made, the groove is drilled with a drill. With the help of a chisel, excess wood is removed. The edges of the product are leveled with needle files.If you have a router, set the cutting depth and cut necessary details. In addition, using the copying ring that comes with the machine, you can easily make grooves of the desired size.

Making a crib with your own hands

  1. We determine the size of the product. It is necessary to build on the dimensions of the mattress on which the child will sleep. We take standard size- 1200x600 mm.

    The frame of the crib consists of the backs and the base itself, on which the mattress will be laid in the future.

  2. The lower part of the crib is defined so as not to interfere with the child to climb onto the bed. For children from 4 to 6 years old - this is 35 cm.

    Diagram of the footboard of the bed.

  3. Surface treatment. It is necessary to make the parts of the product, bringing them to the same size. The support frame will be a timber cut into 6 identical blanks with 25 mm grooves attached to secure the lamellas.

    The basis of the bed will be 4 boards 35 mm thick and 7 mm wide.

  4. We calculate the calculation of the back. To do this, add the thickness of the board to the width of the bed. If there is a railing, we make a tolerance of 25 mm, taking into account their volume.

    The scheme of the headboard of a children's bed.

  5. The rods for the back are made of a 20x20 mm rail. For fastening at the ends, we make a studded connection.

    Decorative headboard with legs for a children's bed.

  6. Assembling the frame. Boards, bed bases are interconnected with the help of shanks and grooves. For reliability, we strengthen the corners with metal corners, fastening them with bolts or self-tapping screws.

    The holes should have the same depth, which is half the length of this piece of wood.

  7. The base of the mattress is fastened with spiked joints to the bed frame.

    Before assembling the bed, you need to check the parts for chips and various defects.

  8. We insert the slats into the prepared grooves on the base of the mattress.

    It is not worth saving if there are not enough of them, in the future they will quickly break down.

  9. We attach the sides and back to the frame.

    After assembly, we clean the surface and varnish it at least three times.

Note! All studded joints are attached with wood glue. Under its influence, the tree is not only fastened, but also swells, securely fixing inside the groove.

Bed house - a cozy fairy tale

We all remember the unique feeling and mystery of huts made of bedspreads. So why not pamper the baby and improve his bed, "building" his own house for him, in which it is so comfortable to sleep?

To do this, during the manufacture of the back of the crib, we will make some adjustments.

Namely, by making the railing a little larger, after cutting off their tops at an angle of 75 0 with a hacksaw or end saw.We attach the bases of the "roof" of our house to them. It is better to fasten the connection with spikes, but given the complexity of such a product, self-tapping screws are also suitable, the main thing- don't forget to glue.

The last step will be the fastening of the ridge beam, which will connect the base of the frame of our "house".

Thus, the baby will receive a personal "fairy tale" made by the caring hands of dad, and reliable roof serve as a blanket thrown over by mom.

Put maximum effort, care and love into your product, and such a bed will give your child good dreams and you - the joy and satisfaction of the work done.

Of course, what we have described does not reflect all the subtleties of the process of making a children's bed with our own hands. During work, you will encounter many obstacles, you will have to think out the nuances more than once. However, we hope that the instructions for making simple furniture that can raise paternal authority to a new level will be useful to both the young dad and the head of the family with many children.

VIDEO: Do-it-yourself bed-house.

We can't help but rejoice at the fact how quickly our children grow up. So my daring boy has grown to four years old and has ceased to fit in his crib, one meter and twenty centimeters long. What kind of "pulls" are there now ?!

Here's what should happen.

As everyone is well aware, a comfortable bed for a baby is the key to its harmonious development. Children spend much more time sleeping than adults. And if the living area is also small, a crib can serve as an excellent help instead of an arena. No wonder they top the list of must-haves for kids.

My wife and I went around several furniture centers in search of a new crib. However, we came to the conclusion that we will make it ourselves, since not a single model fit our requirements:

  • An exceptional array of wood, without MDF and chipboard, as a last resort, the use of plywood. Personally, I even have some kind of genetic mistrust of super-ecological imported chipboard;
  • Mandatory presence on the crib, in order to avoid the fall of the child (well, at least small ones);
  • The dimensions of the baby bed must be at least 160x70 cm and not more than 190x80 cm (the dimensions are determined by us, taking into account the space allotted for the crib and common sense);
  • The bottom of the crib should be equipped with spacious drawers (since one-room apartment have to fight for rational use each square centimeter)
  • If available, the price of a bed should not exceed twenty thousand rubles (the amount personally allocated for these purposes from the family budget).

For a long time we looked closely at all kinds of folding sofas, beds, discussed options with a sofa,. But they couldn’t decide on a purchase: either the presence of chipboard, or the absence of sides, non-removable mattresses, tiny drawers, or the prices are “sky-high”.

I ended up going to a hardware store and purchased the following tools and materials from the list:

  • furniture boards;
  • aluminum corners;
  • self-tapping screws of various sizes;
  • wheels for boxes;
  • drills and other household items.

This purchase cost me 8500 rubles. For another 7,500, I also purchased a lattice base for 1,600 rubles in an online store (although it was possible to get by with a sheet of plywood). In total, the expenditure part amounted to: 17,600 rubles.

Here they are, my initial materials. The size of the mattress and the slatted base is 180x80 cm. There will be a royal bed for my tomboy!

I do markup.

I saw the intended places with a jigsaw, although maintaining an ideal straight cut line is not so easy as it might seem at first glance. I sealed the cut points with paper tape so that the fibers were less bulging (I read about this on specialized sites).

To my great surprise, the adhesive tape tends to run out quickly. Therefore, I had to work further without him, the main thing in this matter is not to cut the stool!

To draw complex shapes, I actively used improvised means. In the front side, I came up with a recess so that the son himself could climb into the crib. Yes, and it would not hurt me to rest on it!

This is what happened, although before cutting it was a monolithic shield measuring 200x60x2.8 cm.

I made holes and did not forget the zink (it will hide under the head of the self-tapping screw).

This is the inner side of the front of the sidewall, and on this corner will be the base of the mattress. To begin with, I planted 4 self-tapping screws, but on reflection, I added four more for greater reliability. Fortunately, I bought self-tapping screws with a margin!

He carefully laid the structure on its side, in fear that it might accidentally crumble at any moment. I carefully drill holes and fasten the shields. For the straightness of the corners are responsible own eye and perfectly made mattress lattice!

I fasten it with furniture ties, for which I prudently purchased special drill which saves a lot of time.

The first hole for the screed.

Directly the very first screed.

This is the result at the end of all the twisting and fastening work - an excellent solid bed base!

I installed the bed in a specially designated place for this and laid the mattress. I put a panel to the bottom of the crib so that it would not interfere, and left everything as it is for a while, since I can only afford to do construction and household chores on weekends. Our son had to sleep in an unfinished bed for a whole week, and during this time some flaws in the design were revealed.

It turned out that sleeping without a headboard is not very comfortable, or rather very uncomfortable:

  • in a dream, the child tosses and turns and, raising his head above the pillow, may accidentally hook the side, since its height is only 10 cm;
  • the child can easily throw the pillow beyond the low side;
  • lack of a headboard - lack of comfort, as soon as he lay down, he was immediately convinced of this.

It is not pleasant when you contemplate bumps or bruises on the head of your child. I went to the store and bought two more small furniture boards to assemble the headboard. I sawed them as follows: for the back - one large sheet and two smaller ones - for the sidewalls (the smallest in the photo is just a cut).

It is I who am in a creative search to decide on the design and shape of the future headboard.

For symmetry, I cut out another part according to the shape of the back of the headboard.

According to Wikipedia information, emery (grinding) abrasive material is intended for processing surfaces of various compositions (wood, glass, metal, plastic). Oh, and I suffered with this abrasive material!

In one of the sidewalls I cut out a window, which will carry a technical function rather than a decorative one. So, I'm going to make a mount to the side of the crib.

I make cuts in the bathroom. My wife (I give her credit for her fair share of patience) had to put up with a thick layer of fragrant spruce dust on all toiletries.

To draw curved lines and bends, I again used all sorts of improvised means.

It is very important to follow exactly the intended cut line and not deviate even a millimeter from the course.

I twist, fasten, tighten, correct

Since it is not possible to use a drill from inside the window, I had to drill a hole from the bottom up. The place for the hat of the furniture tie was made by hand (it was lucky that spruce is a fairly malleable wood).

Creating graphic ovals, I experienced a tremendous sense of satisfaction from my own artistic achievements, however, after cutting, my masterpiece ceased to be an exquisite presentable design. But with their functional purpose, the ovals coped well, and the child is happy to look at them before going to bed. He even uses them in his new fun: he covers himself with a blanket along with the headboard and, with the feeling of creating a personal reservation, waves at us through the side windows.

At this stage, construction and installation work again had to be postponed until next weekend.

The long-awaited weekend has come, and we start making legs for the crib and assembling drawers. To do this, I needed a piece about 20 cm wide from the end panel.

My fantasy told me to make just such a shape of the legs.

It is necessary to file corners to the legs.

This is how I originally imagined attaching the legs to the base of the crib.

IN wonderful world riddles and secrets sometimes turns us on our consciousness (and it really frolic over me)! I still can’t find intelligible answers to the question: “Well, why did I decide to fix the legs of the bed in such a bizarre way?” This whole process could end with the elementary use of long self-tapping screws. But, apparently, at that moment I did not want to take a short cut to achieve my goal.

Now it's time to use the part of the front sidewall just attached to the bed for a while. From 12mm wide plywood, I cut out the bottoms and sides for two drawers. For clarity, somehow made the whole structure together.

Our bathroom got a makeover again, this time with a decorative aluminum dust finish (the wood dust was heroically eliminated by my other half in a week).

I twist and fasten.

I install wheels with a diameter of 4.5 cm.

The fitting process without facades. We make sure that the rotation occurs without any difficulty, even in the presence of a weighty load.

We complete the work by hanging facades.

Sweet dreams my baby!

P.S. The whole process of assembling and installing a baby crib will take you only a few days (in my case, these are three Saturdays). Tips for those who decide to follow my example:

  • if possible, do construction and installation work outside the home (in the country, in the garage), since it is very difficult to get rid of traces of three-layer dust (wood, aluminum and emery);
  • first think and plan carefully, then act (unlike my sequence);
  • Order cutting plywood and boards directly in the store, after specifying the exact dimensions and shapes.

The birth of a child is new stage in the life of a young family. They prepare for it in advance, at this moment the parents become closer, jointly taking care of their child. Things necessary from the first days appear in the house: oilcloths, diapers, diapers, a bath, special hygiene products, a personal sleeping place. The cost of all required items can be very burdensome for young couples, sometimes overwhelming. Many are trying to save money, for example, they make toys on their own, make a crib with their own hands.

If you draw up a drawing correctly, plan the design of the bed, then the furniture can be used for a long time, from the moment a child is born to his four or five years. It is extremely important from the first day to accustom the baby to sleep separately. It is unacceptable to put him in the bed of his parents. Although most mothers sleep very sensitively, irreparable things can happen in a dream. In addition, it is difficult to wean a child from the parental bed.

Advantages and features of making a bed with your own hands

Furniture stores sell many models of baby cribs made from various materials. The tree and its derivatives are mainly used, but there are also plastic options. It is not always possible to find furniture for a newborn that meets all the requirements, and suitable products are very expensive. In this case homemade designs will be an excellent alternative, they have a number of advantages expressed in the following:

  1. Price. Do-it-yourself furniture will cost much cheaper than purchased analogues, which will help save the family budget.
  2. Reliability. In the process of preparation and assembly, the strength of all components is checked at each stage.
  3. Environmental friendliness. The bed for your son or daughter is made only from natural wood, which does not emit harmful substances.
  4. Exclusivity. A self-drawn drawing will become the key to an individual, unique product.
  5. Gaining experience. When working, a person acquires new skills that can later be applied in the production of similar items.
  6. Compatibility with the interior and style of the room.

When making a bed, you should follow certain rules:

  • for work it is necessary to use only environmentally friendly materials, which include natural wood;
  • the surface should not have sharp corners, roughness, chips, protrusions;
  • the product must correspond to the height, weight, physiological parameters of the baby.
  • it is necessary to provide protection against falling, rolling down the child.
  • For small apartments or houses, multifunctional structures are suitable, for this you can use the free space under them, install additional boxes, make a play area.

Designs and sizes of a children's bed

The easiest way to make standard furniture, which consists of four legs, a frame, a mattress and a headboard. The model is used exclusively for sleeping the baby. If the sleeping place is fenced along the perimeter with walls with bars, then you get a classic bed for a newborn. Although for this category you can use a cradle, playpen, rocking chair, side options.

In small rooms it is more practical to install multifunctional items. To do this, they are equipped with drawers, chest of drawers, other useful elements. A very functional bed with an attic, where the bed is placed on the second tier. Below you can organize a playground, install lockers for storing items.

The furniture made in the form of a typewriter looks unusual. This is an option for older children who have not reached adolescence. Custom design will allow you to make inconspicuous lockers inside, hidden under the hood or behind the door. You will have to tinker with many elements, which will require certain carpentry skills.

Among non-standard designs, you can choose a bed-house. This model is suitable for children over 3 years old. It has all the elements of a standard item, as well as doors and windows, gable roof. Decorative products will decorate any interior, will delight every kid.

What material are the beds made from?

With the independent construction of children's furniture, it is necessary to determine the materials that will be used in the process. The main requirement is that the raw materials used must be environmentally friendly, not harm the development of the baby. Let us dwell on this issue in more detail, consider best option for all components of the structure:

  1. Mattress. It is recommended to purchase it in a specialized store, as purchased models are produced taking into account the recommendations developed by orthopedic doctors. If the bed is planned to be used for more than one year, then it is better to choose double-sided products with varying degrees of rigidity. For children under three years old, a hard, hard coating is required, which contributes to fixing the back and the proper development of the body. The filler should be woolen, you should not take models that include cotton wool and foam rubber. The upholstery should also be made of natural fabric and have an antiseptic coating.
  2. Frame, lamellas, legs, sidewalls. For a beloved child, only a tree should be chosen. Coniferous species are suitable for work: pine, spruce. Natural wood breathes, it is strong enough, suitable for any interior. Those who decide to use MDF or chipboard should remember that the boards contain phenol and formaldehyde resins, so you need to take only models with an emission class of E-0.
  3. Protective equipment. To extend the service life, wooden surfaces handle special formulations, they are painted, varnished. For these purposes, nitroenamel, acrylic, water-based paint for children's rooms. A great option would be to use wax. To preserve the texture of wood, you can use acrylic varnish, other options are highly toxic.

If there are free Money you can buy dense wood species: solid oak, larch. This is the most durable material, the products look rich, but it is quite difficult to process raw materials.

We make a bed with our own hands

Having firmly decided to build a structure on your own, you should understand all the nuances associated with its creation. Initially, a drawing is developed in which all the constituent elements are displayed. Then they acquire the materials necessary for work, prepare the tools, in the absence of any of them, they buy it in addition.

Based on the scheme, the raw materials are marked out under the components. They are cut out, combined into a single structure, treated with special compounds, painted, varnished, decorated. For clarity, let us consider in detail the main stages, which include the process of making a classic crib.

Drawings and diagram

The creation of any object is impossible without a drawing. IN graphic image, made on a certain scale, the sizes of the nodes are indicated. To compile it, you will need minimal skills in drawing, you can also use special programs. When developing a project, consider:

  1. Dimensions of the room where the product will be installed. In a spacious room, you can place a larger bed.
  2. The dimensions of standard products for children under three years old are 120x60 cm. If you plan to use the design in the future, you should give preference to larger models 150x60 cm, 180x70 cm.
  3. From the bottom of the crib, you can equip lockers in which children's things will be stored.
  4. For preschoolers, it is worthwhile to provide removable bumpers that will protect them from rolling and falling.
  5. Design and decoration chosen according to the preferences of the parents.

Necessary tools and materials

For the manufacture and assembly of the bed, the following materials will be required:

  • board;
  • MDF sheet;
  • varnishes and paints;
  • self-tapping screws, fasteners, rubber heels on the legs.

Tools:

  • wood saw, electric jigsaw;
  • hammer, screwdriver, screwdriver;
  • drill, drill;
  • measuring instruments, a simple pencil.

Basic parts and their preparation

A standard bed consists of 4 legs, 2 backs, sidewalls, removable sides, frame, slats, mattress. The last element from the list is purchased ready-made, the rest are made by hand. The process looks like this:

  1. In accordance with the drawing, marking of all component parts is applied to the tree. This can be done with a tape measure and a simple pencil.
  2. An electric jigsaw, a saw is used to cut elements.
  3. Components are polished with sandpaper.
  4. Depending on the length of the sidewalls, the metal corners used to install the mattress are cut out with a grinder. Holes are drilled in them for self-tapping screws to secure them to the tree.
  5. All components are painted, varnished.

Basic assembly steps

Bed assembly work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Collect the backs, located at the head and footboard. They are connected to the legs.
  2. Prepare the base for the mattress. To do this, metal corners are attached to the wooden sidewalls using self-tapping screws. Lamellas are fixed to them from above, perpendicular to the side walls.
  3. The backs and the base under the mattress are connected using furniture fittings; for reliability, it is better to use the corners.
  4. A mattress is installed on the frame.
  5. On the sides, removable protective bumpers are added, fixed on special metal or wooden fittings.
  6. If necessary, the finished product is decorated.

Making and assembling a car bed

Children will love this design. Make it for everyone. To do this, you need to draw up a drawing or download it on the network. After that, you can proceed to the pattern of components and assembly. The work consists of the following stages:

  1. From furniture board side and front walls are made.
  2. On the side surfaces, cutouts are made that imitate car doors, through which it will be convenient for the child to get inside.
  3. On one of the end parts, with the help of an electric jigsaw, holes for the headlights and a radiator are carefully cut out.
  4. Next, a few more planks are cut out, imitating the hood of the car, the windshield.
  5. Wheels are being prepared.
  6. Wooden corners are attached to the side walls, on which the base for the mattress is laid.
  7. A rectangular frame is assembled from the prepared parts, which is mounted on wheels.
  8. The resulting workpiece is painted or varnished.
  9. The base is fixed inside the frame, the mattress is laid.

Features of the assembly of the bed for newborns

For newborns, the design of the bed should be slightly different. Its standard size is 120x60 cm, when the baby reaches 3 years old, it will become cramped for him. When planning, it is worth considering the possibility of adjusting the height of the bed. When the child is small, it is convenient to place him higher, and as soon as he learns to get up, the bottom will have to be lowered for safety.

For a comfortable sleep of the baby, parents, neighbors, one removable side or end wall should be provided in the crib, which will allow it to be placed near the parent. The distance between the bars around the entire perimeter is made within 2.5 - 6 cm. This optimal dimensions, in which the child will not be able to pinch his fingers or stick his head. Do not forget about the strength of the product, good fixation of removable elements.

In addition to these features, often the legs of the bed are mounted on wheels, making it mobile. Pendulum mechanisms or rocking chairs are also equipped. Their use is recommended by pediatricians. This allows you to easily lull the child. It is advisable to use the bumper only in the first months, then it should be removed to increase the view that the child knows the world.

Bed decor with soft sides of your own tailoring

Not only dad can contribute to the family budget by building a finished bed. Mom can also join this process by decorating the product with soft sides. Outwardly, the craft resembles covers stuffed with filler. In addition to the decorative function, they also perform a practical one, they protect the baby from accidental hits on the bars, do not allow him to stick his hand between them. When sewing them, certain requirements must be observed:

  • The fabric should be only natural, linen, calico, cotton are suitable. Wool must be used as a filler.
  • The material is better to choose light, pastel shades, which have a good effect on the psyche of the child.
  • If a drawing is provided, then it should be done in a medium size, a small one will annoy him.

Master class on making a bunk bed

This perfect option for a family with two children of the same age, whether it be a boy and a girl or same-sex kids. The design of the bunk bed repeats the single-tier. A slight difference lies only in the presence of a ladder, the height of the product, the fastening of two lodges on the same supports. For safety, a side is provided on top, located around the entire perimeter. To understand all the intricacies of the model, consider a master class on making such a bed:

  1. We prepare boards with a section of 3.5x10 cm. According to the chosen scheme, we cut out 4 blanks of 190 cm each, 4 - 180 cm each, 4 - 80 cm each.
  2. On 190 cm boards, retreating from each edge by 30 cm, on both end sides at the top and bottom we make grooves for the width of the crossbars 3.5x10 mm.
  3. We collect the side backs. To do this, using segments of 80 cm, two support legs are connected.
  4. Finished backs are connected using 4 pieces of 180 cm, installed in the outer end grooves.
  5. From above and below we make the basis for the mattress. To do this, along the perimeter of both tiers, lamellas are nailed over the sidewalls. Here they can not be recessed, thanks to the sides arranged in a circle.
  6. We mount the stairs. Its length should be the distance from the lower edge of the side partition to the upper edge of the support.
  7. We install the sides, lay the mattress.

Self-made bed with storage boxes

As a basis for the manufacture of such a design, you can take any drawing of a standard bed. The only difference will be the presence of full-fledged side walls and drawers. First of all, it is necessary to determine their number. It can be one element that occupies the entire space under the bed, two, or even three. It is also worth considering the type of sliding parts. There are two cardinal different options: independent from the main body, fixed to the frame, retractable on rails.

The process of building a product will be similar to the preparation and assembly of a conventional single children's bed. Here it is necessary to provide not legs, but side walls and intermediate partitions on which the guides will be attached. It is also worth considering the fact that the gap between the floor and the bottom of the tray should be at least 1 cm.

To make the box itself, you will need to prepare four pieces of wood, their dimensions depend on the size of the space under the bed. Then they are connected into a rectangular or square box, a sheet of chipboard, plywood is nailed from below. To reinforce the structure from the inside, 4 support bars are installed from below around the entire perimeter, an inset bottom is made, which allows you to store heavier items.

Decoration methods

For a baby bed, comfort conditions and practical design are equally important. In order to improve the conditions for the baby, auxiliary decorative elements are used, which also carry a number of useful functions. Consider the most popular options for decorating this item:

  • Canopy. Elegant canopy, which is sewn from any natural fabric. This item is recommended to use up to 4-5 months.

In addition to decoration, the product serves as protection against insects. It collects a lot of dust, so it needs to be washed frequently.

  • Canopy. Unlike the previous version, only light, transparent materials are used: tulle, organza, veil. Fastening is done with a rod.
  • Valance. This is the frame of the lower edge of the bed. It covers the bottom of the furniture, which will perfectly mask some of the mistakes made when making the crib yourself.
  • Hanging toys. Often suspended in tandem with a music mobile. This type of decor is made from cardboard or fabric. Contribute to the development of the child. They can have the most diverse appearance, whether it be snowflakes, animals, flowers or others.
  • Stickers. You can buy them at any furniture store. When fixing them, make sure that the child cannot reach them.

Bed painting - what paint is better to use

In the industrial production of baby beds, oil paints. They improve appearance, protect the surface from damage, they are easy to clean from dirt. When choosing coloring agents on your own, you should study their composition, make sure that it does not contain toxic, poisonous elements. These requirements are met by:

  • Acrylic water based paints. They are distinguished by high cost and good performance.
  • Nitro paints. They do not have a pronounced smell, they are inexpensive, they dry quickly.
  • Water emulsion. They are characterized by a long service life. With their help, you can hide shallow cracks.
  • Wax. The most expensive option. This is a flawless, high-quality coating with water-repellent properties.

A person cannot do without a pillow. It's device related human body. The element supports the curvature of the cervical spine, promotes blood flow to the brain. The child begins to put this item at the age of 1-2 years, depending on his physical development. The product should have a rectangular shape from 30x40 to 40x60 cm. Its thickness should be: for children under three years old - 3-4 cm, after - 5-6 cm. An important place is occupied by its elasticity, too soft a pillow will lead to pain in the cervical vertebra, fast fatigue.

As a filler, bird fluff, natural wool, buckwheat husk, holofiber, latex are used. The last three options are the best in terms of elasticity. When choosing a fabric material, preference should be given to natural fiber treated with antiseptics. It is better to choose models in which the cover is fastened with a zipper, then you can control the state of the filler.

Unlike a pillow, a mattress is necessary from the first days of a child. It should be hypoallergenic, safe, absorb and evaporate liquids without problems. Also for kids great importance has elasticity, so you need to take only orthopedic products. Otherwise, the requirements for filler and sheathing are almost the same, as for pillows.

Choice of bed linen

Any person gains strength during sleep, and the kids are still growing and developing. Every parent wants to make this moment peaceful. In this matter, they are helped by bed linen, which should be of high quality, made from natural materials. For these purposes, the following types of fabric are used:

  • cotton,
  • chintz,
  • satin,
  • calico,
  • bamboo.

The color of the selected canvas should be neutral, it is better to use pastel, light colors that are conducive to sleep. For newborns, a product without a pattern is suitable, for older children, but not teenagers, underwear with a print of your favorite characters from cartoon series. Also, when choosing bedding, you should pay attention to:

  • the material should not lose its structure and color from frequent washing;
  • do not take underwear with buttons, ribbons, lace;
  • Conclusion

    Having studied the ready-made schemes, having considered all the positive and negative aspects associated with self-manufacturing cribs for their baby, any parent will build a similar design. In this case, all family members can participate in the process. Dad will prepare and assemble the frame, and mom will pick up a mattress, pillow, bed linen, and make decor elements with her own hands. This will not only save the family budget, but also show the child that he is taken care of and loved.

For the proper development of the child, it is important not only the playing area, but also the recreation area. The life of a baby is associated with a game, with copying the everyday life of adults, and if you have a desire, you can even diversify the life of your children by making beds for children with your own hands, for example, in the form of a car, a house, or even a ship.

Such a bed can be purchased at a store, but it will cost a lot of money and, as a rule, furniture with this design is not mass-produced, but individual order production is not easy, as it requires high costs. Therefore, the cost of such furniture has always been high. But you can make a crib for a newborn with your own hands according to drawings and photos.

What material to choose for making a bed for children with their own hands

In order to make a baby bed yourself, you need to purchase some materials and tools. Making cribs with your own hands from wood is best, conifers are suitable for this: pine, cedar, spruce. You can use plywood or MDF. It all depends on your capabilities and abilities.

When making beds for children with your own hands, it is preferable to use natural wood, as it is more environmentally friendly than other materials. Wooden furniture has always been highly valued for its qualities, which include strength, durability of the product, beauty. Using wooden bed, children's sleep will be much stronger and calmer. But before you start the creation process, you need to purchase a mattress. Because the bed will be made exactly according to its size. And it doesn’t matter if you make a bed for a girl with your own hands or for a boy. Mattress, it is better to buy in the store. Fortunately, modern industry makes them for every taste.

Choosing a mattress

When buying, you just need to consider some features of the purchased product:

You also need to take care of purchasing paintwork materials. you can choose a shade depending on whether you make a bed for a boy or a girl with your own hands. Well, in addition, you will need to purchase carpentry glue for the possible connection of the parts of the structure being created.

What paint is better to use when painting a crib

In furniture production, as a rule, oil paints are used, antiseptic agents are added to them to protect the wood from decay, and they give the products a bright color. This has a positive effect on the appearance of products.

The lacquers used to cover the surface of the bed are water-based. They emphasize the texture and are pleasant to the touch. But the surface treated with such means does not need to be washed with active detergents, as it quickly becomes unusable. It will be enough to wipe the surface with a damp cloth. To paint a homemade baby bed, you should buy compositions with non-toxic components.

In this case good option May be:

Some people want to see the texture of the wood of the homemade bed, not covered with paint, then it is necessary to apply acrylic varnish. It has no pungent odor, withstands ultraviolet rays. All other varnishes are either highly toxic or short-lived in operation.

If it is possible to purchase more expensive types of wood, such as ash, larch, your product will look richer, but remember that it is more difficult to work with these types, since they have a completely different (more dense) wood structure and are difficult to process.

All materials can be purchased at household or specialized stores and timber trade bases.

Painting a baby crib

Acrylic-based paints cover furniture with finishing. The process is simple, but takes time.

Before painting the surface, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Take the bed apart.
  2. Prepare surfaces for painting: sand the surface with sandpaper. If there are old layers of paint or varnish, treat with a remover and remove them with a spatula.
  3. Degrease the surface, especially if it has resinous places in the form of knots. This is done with any solvent (it is better to use a solvent or turpentine).
  4. If necessary, repair minor damage to the surface with putty.
  5. Before painting, after sanding, be sure to prime the surface.
  6. Apply paint or varnish (at least three layers) with a brush, paint roller, sponge or cloth. You can use an airbrush, but there will be a large consumption of paintwork material.

After applying the first layer of paint or varnish on a pre-primed surface, you need to wait until it dries. The painted plane can be processed again with sandpaper. This is done in order to remove small villi of wood that have risen as a result of staining from the surface. After that, alternately apply two more thin layers of paint or varnish.

It is recommended to carry out work on making a bed, carrying out paint and varnish finishing outside the living quarters, best of all, in a specially designated room for household needs.

What tool do you need

To make a children's bed with your own hands at home, you will need a minimum of tools. As a rule, each owner has everything necessary in a box.

To make a bed for a child, you will need:

  1. Plane. It is necessary for possible trimming of the ends during the assembly of a do-it-yourself crib made of wood.
  2. Drill with a set of different drills
  3. with a set of bits or just a set of screwdrivers, but it's better to have both tools.
  4. Chisel, hammer or mallet.
  5. Joiner's clamps, you can make them yourself to compress parts while gluing them. It all depends on the complexity of the project you choose.
  6. A grinder with a set of sanding skins, or just sandpaper of various grits. But then the processing will be longer.
  7. Electric jigsaw with saw set for sawing wood, plywood, MDF, or hand saw. But then again the quality and speed of work will be significantly reduced.
  8. You will also need wood screws, furniture fittings to assemble a baby bed.

The number of tools will depend on the materials from which you will make a baby bed. If this is a board, then you need to take into account the degree of its carpentry processing. In the case when these are plywood or MDF materials, their dimensions and appearance.

What are the main details in the design of the bed

You can buy all the details for making cribs for children with your own hands already in the finished version, and then complete the assembly yourself, or you can purchase a “semi-finished product” and make all the structural components from it, based on the size of your bed.

The main details include:

  • legs for the bed;
  • tsars, transverse and longitudinal;
  • slats for a set of the bottom of the bed;
  • headboard;
  • side railings.

All of the above parts, connected together, form the basis of the product. How to assemble a children's wooden bed with your own hands and fasten parts can be different, as it depends on the design features and the material from which it is made.

For example, if the bed is made of wood:

  1. Tsargi must be well cut and sanded. Make grooves in them for installing lamellas on which the mattress will lie. The distance between the holes should be no more than 5 cm. Such an indentation is necessary to prevent the mattress from falling into the gap between the slats, which will lead to premature wear of the mattress. The slats are either glued to the sides or screwed on with self-tapping screws.
  2. Side rails are designed to prevent a possible fall of the child in a dream from the bed. Making your own baby bed with sides will protect your baby from injury. They are attached to the backs of the structure with self-tapping screws or they can be inserted into pre-prepared grooves.
  3. Headboards may vary in design. If the system is frame, then it can be filled with a plywood panel, which is easy to make on your own, or ordered from the masters to make a wooden panel, but it will cost more.

After assembling the bed, the question arises of choosing a decor for the product. Inaccuracies made in the manufacture of parts will appear in the assembly process in the form of cracks. If there are any on a wooden product, they will need to be covered with putty and subsequently cleaned with sandpaper.

It is also necessary to prepare a primer, stain and varnish. We must not forget that the paint and varnish materials must be environmentally friendly, since the bed is made for the child.

What design of a children's bed to choose

There are many options for how to make a bed for a child. Which model to create depends primarily on your skill.

When choosing a design, it is necessary to take into account:

  • the size of the children's room;
  • the age of the child;
  • child's wishes
  • your possibilities.

If you are looking for how to make a bed for a girl with your own hands, you can consider several options. For example, it is not difficult to make a two-tiered bed: with a bed below and above, if you have two children. For one child, a bunk bed is also suitable. In the area of \u200b\u200bthe second tier, you can make a bed for relaxation, that is, directly the bed. And the lower part will be the game, or combine the game and work areas. For example put there desk where the child will do homework. You can make impromptu windows from fabric and give the bed an image small house. Since making a bed for a child yourself is not difficult, you can dream up and create something, well, very original. For example, to build a baby rocking bed with your own hands according to drawings and photos from the Internet.

Bed in the form of a house

If you want to make a baby bed from 3 years old with your own hands, we offer an option in the form of a house. Such a design is not difficult to manufacture, and with the minimum of tools indicated above, you can safely get to work. By making such a bed on your own, you can adhere to a free style and experiment with proportions and colors, while taking into account the preferences of children.

As an example, take the construction of a bed with a size of:

  • height 178 cm;
  • length 175 cm;
  • width 91 cm;
  • mattress measuring 80 x 165 cm.

Tool:

  • hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drills with a diameter of 6, 10 mm;
  • measuring tool, pencil, ruler, square, tape measure;
  • glue for wood;
  • sandpaper for grinding and cleaning the surface;
  • self-tapping screws size: 4.5 x 30, 6 x 70 mm;
  • carpenter's glue to glue parts.

For this design, you need to take 13 bars square section, preferably 45 x 45, the length of the timber should be:

  • standing supports 1200 mm - 4 pcs;
  • transverse beam 829 mm - 2 pcs;
  • roof rafters 730 mm - 4 pcs;
  • axial bars for the roof 1660 mm - 3 pcs.

For the manufacture of the bottom of the bed, two beams are suitable, the size of which is 38 x 67 x 1660 mm and 2 slats 9x 67 x 1660 mm, as well as lamellas.

Since it is necessary to make a bed a house for a child with a roof, we choose a gable option so that the parts fit snugly together, we cut the upper edges at an angle of 45 degrees.

For the manufacture of walls, we use racks 1200 mm long in this design. They will act as load-bearing supports to which the roof of the bed - the house - will be attached. For its manufacture we use a beam 730 mm long.

Bed in the form of a typewriter

Your children's delight will know no bounds. What are the features of the manufacture of this type of bed? Given the activity of the kids, it doesn’t matter for them whether it is an ordinary design or it carries game functions. A baby bed is subjected to more stress, despite significant differences in weight.

Car crib features:

  1. An important requirement for such a product is the strength of this design.
  2. When creating, you should take into account the dimensions and make it for growth, since in this case it will not work to make a sliding children's bed with your own hands.
  3. Equally important is the observance of safety during the design and further operation. This refers to the selection of paintwork materials, the material from which the bed itself is made, various stickers and electric lighting. All this must comply with a certain security class.

When making a bed frame - cars, you need to take into account your experience and the weight of your child. The base is a frame structure with legs, or a box, which is reinforced with transverse crossbars. In the manufacture of a car bed for a boy with his own hands, a beam with a section of 50 x 70 mm is used; during assembly, the frame is reinforced with metal corners. The back of the bed and the headboard, as well as the sidewalls, are attached to it. We must not forget that the size of the frame must correspond to the size of the mattress, a difference of +1.2 cm is allowed.

The bottom of the frame, where the mattress will be placed, is preferably made of slats, although it can, if necessary, be made solid, from 10 mm thick plywood.

The main design detail of this design will be side panels imitating the silhouette of a car. They are made from plywood, chipboard or MDF. It can be made from wood, but if you do not have the skills of gluing wood, then it is better to choose any of the above materials.

Car bed assembly

In the beginning, it is necessary to develop a scheme for a children's bed. For the sample, a specific car model is taken. It is important to observe the parameters, colors, bending of lines. In general, a design drawing will be needed. Then you need to make a part template and cut the material on it. Also, with the help of a children's bed project with your own hands, you need to prepare the details of the head and foot of the bed. Next, your improvisation and fantasy: you can make headlights and a car bumper by drawing them, or you can make them from improvised material.

In both cases, you will need to make drawings of children's beds with your own hands. Blanks are made using templates, cut out of plywood or MDF with power tools, the edges must be polished, and thermal tape is glued to them.

Of course, it would not be superfluous to provide this bed design with fake wheels and a steering wheel. But the masters do not always create such details. The presence of a steering wheel can create problems in maintaining the bed. But the wheels can be drawn or made by yourself, this will complicate the design a little, but what can you do for your beloved children. Also, the bed can be equipped with night lights and install them in the form of sidelights and car headlights.

As you already understood, the choice of materials for this design of a crib is quite extensive. When using plywood, furniture wooden shield or MDF, on this species it will take 1-2 sheets. Confirmates and keys to them, you will get in the hardware store. With the help of screws you will connect the parts of the bed - cars.

Holes that include fasteners are best closed with plugs, or at worst puttied. But if it becomes necessary to tighten the fasteners, the putty will have to be picked out for a long time, and it will clog the socket for the screwdriver. Therefore, it is better to stop at the stubs. The tsarg fastenings must be reinforced with metal corners, this will strengthen your structure as a whole.

6 basic steps on how to assemble a car bed

  1. We assemble the frame in the form of a frame structure or assemble a box with the installation of partitions. It is better to fasten parts with the help of confirmations, having previously drilled holes for them.
  2. Prepare the sides and end backs by cutting them according to a template from plywood or MDF, or other material.
  3. Perform a rough assembly of the structure in order to identify and eliminate errors during the manufacture of bed parts. After removing the flaws or in the absence of them, the parts are prepared for painting.
  4. In the bed model, where the side decorative designs are a frame, pre-assembly is also required.
  5. After staining and subsequent drying, the parts of the bed are assembled using self-tapping screws and confirmers. Screw heads must be covered with plugs. Casters can be attached to the bottom of the bed frame, if desired.
  6. The last step will be to decorate your crib - cars with various attributes, such as a steering wheel, imitation car tires, headlight and so on. It all depends on your imagination.
