For gardeners in whose house hibiscus settled, the reproduction of this beautiful plant sooner or later becomes an urgent issue. Almost everyone who sees a large green bush invariably covered with graceful flowers, there is a desire to have the same at home. And the owner of a blooming miracle is bombarded with a stream of requests to donate or sell a branch of the bush.

Basically, reproduction of hibiscus is possible only by seeds.

Reproduction of hibiscus by cuttings is difficult mainly for the owners of varietal plants. Large double, unusually colored flowers are much more attractive than a simple bright red Chinese rose and are of interest even to sophisticated indoor plant lovers. But purebred hibiscus reproduces much worse vegetatively than its semi-wild relatives. Most often, these varieties can only be propagated by seeds.

Ways to root cuttings

Cuttings can be cut at any time of the year - indoor hibiscus at temperatures above + 15 ° C continue growing and flowering even in winter. But it should be borne in mind that on short days the plant still shows less activity during any vegetative processes, including during rooting. The ideal time for cutting cuttings and planting hibiscus is from late April to early May.

For successful root formation, hibiscus cuttings are best treated with drugs such as Kornevin or Heteroauxin.

You can root both green branches of hibiscus and woody shoots. For reproduction, select the upper part of the branch with a growth point. The length of the apical cutting is 8-12 cm.But if the owner of the mother plant was very generous and cut off a part of the longer shoot, then you can divide the branch into several parts and thereby increase the chances of successful reproduction of the hibiscus by planting 2-3 cuttings at once.

Large leaves should be cut in half.

To accelerate root formation, it is best to treat the lower sections of the cuttings with any preparation intended for this purpose: Kornevin, Heteroauxin, etc. When buying a preparation in liquid form, prepare a solution according to the instructions and dip the cuttings into it for 0.5-2 hours. Dip fresh cuts in a powdery preparation and plant the cuttings in soil or water.

For successful rooting, it is necessary to properly prepare the soil: mix an equal amount of turf and leafy soil and combine with the same volume of sand or use purchased land for hibiscus, adding 1 part of sand to 1 part of the soil. Good results are obtained by rooting in a container, where a nutritious soil prepared at home or purchased is poured. The soil mixture filled with boiling water is poured into the containers selected for planting by 2/3 of the volume.

How to propagate a Chinese rose at home

Pour sand over the remaining 1/3 of the pot. The cuttings are planted in a wet sandy layer to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. The sand around the branch should be lightly tamped with your fingers, but not over-compacted. With this method of planting, the cutting, rooting, will gradually reach the nutrient layer of the soil with already strengthened roots.

When rooting cuttings in water, root formation is faster if the hibiscus branches are in an opaque container.

When 1-3 true leaves appear, hibiscus seedlings are transplanted into pots with a diameter of 5-7 cm.

The planted stalk should be placed in a mini greenhouse: it can be a transparent bag or a cut plastic bottle, glass jar etc. The stalk should be covered with an improvised cap to prevent excessive evaporation of moisture.

The most suitable temperature for rooting is 23-25 ° C. Until signs of growth (the formation of new leaves) appear, the seedling is not recommended to be in bright light. It is necessary to place the pot with the plant during the rooting period near the east or west window.

When an influx of callus tissue forms (white dots on the stem and around the cut), you can plant the hibiscus in the ground. If you want, you can wait for the formation of real roots, but you should not let them grow too large. It will be easier to transfer the hibiscus cuttings to the soil when the length of the new roots is about 2-3 mm. The first time after transplanting, the seedling must be kept in a mini-greenhouse until signs of growth appear.

Seed propagation of hibiscus

This method is suitable for growing valuable varieties of hibiscus and for obtaining new ones as a result of crossing. The long period (several years), which passes from sowing to the moment of flowering, makes seed reproduction uninteresting for ordinary indoor floriculture lovers. Seed material can be purchased in specialized stores or obtained at home by pollinating flowers with a soft brush. With successful pollination, the calyx does not fall off after a few days, but remains on the plant. Hibiscus seeds ripen in a five-man capsule for a month.

It is advisable to soak the seed in a solution of any stimulant (Epin, Humat, etc.), diluted according to the instructions, for several hours. Place the prepared seeds in a damp cloth and wrap in cling film or package. At a temperature of about 25-30 ° C, the seeds begin to hatch as early as 3-5 days. Without waiting for the growth of a long root, they must be sown in moist soil, prepared as indicated above, for planting cuttings. The seeding depth is 0.5-0.7 mm. The container with seeds must be covered with glass or foil to retain moisture. In a warm place, seedlings will appear on days 7-14.

After the formation of 1-3 true leaves, plant the seedlings in separate pots with a diameter of 5-7 cm.Planting and care is carried out according to the rules common to all young plants:

  • watering is best done from a pallet, avoiding stagnation of liquid in it;
  • do not cool containers with seedlings below + 20 ° С, as this can cause the disease "black leg";
  • do not leave seedlings in direct sunlight and dry them out.

Growing hibiscus seedlings need to be reloaded as the roots fill the pot. In good conditions, they grow quite quickly, and young bushes propagated by a vegetative method may even bloom by the end of the 1st year of cultivation.

To use a Chinese rose as a houseplant, you should know that its propagation takes place by cuttings, and with proper care after the shoot takes root well.

Rules for the propagation of a Chinese rose by cuttings

  1. The most suitable time for cutting a Chinese rose is February, March and August, but if you wish, you can spend it in any other month.
  2. Cuttings are cut for reproduction from a young growth, you need to cut off their top with two or three internodes. It is advisable to lower the sections into a growth stimulating preparation.
  3. Rooting should be carried out in a small greenhouse with a soil mixture heated to + 22-25 ° C (mixing peat and sand). If it is not possible to create such conditions, then you can put it in a small pot with a light loose substrate and cover with a plastic bottle.
  4. The roots form in about a month. After their appearance, the flower is transplanted into a pot with a diameter of 7-9 cm, which should be placed on sunny place... In the future, the new plant will need watering with warm water and pinching of small shoots, this is necessary to form a beautiful shape of a new Chinese rose bush.
  5. In the spring, transplant into a pot of nutrient soil and cut all branches by a third. This will contribute to the formation of branches, on which flowers will appear later.

Knowing the main features of reproduction and further care for a Chinese rose (hibiscus), you can please with this a beautiful flower all comers.

There are many superstitions and legends around the Chinese rose (or as it is also called hibiscus). It is considered as if it is a beacon of health of the house where it grows. According to one version, he absorbs evil, and attracts men to the mistress, but according to another, everything is just the opposite.

Perhaps we will leave empty superstitions aside and remember that the flower itself is very attractive and beautiful and will fill any house with aesthetics and decorate any room without difficulty. With its bright color on cloudy days it will carry a piece of the sun that it absorbed on fine days.

In addition, a very strong argument in favor of this flower is its unpretentiousness and ease of care. Read about all this and even how to make tea with its petals in our article.

Description of the Chinese rose

Hibiscus is a small shrub that looks more like a small tree. In cultivation, the most popular Chinese hibiscus or, as it is more often called, the Chinese rose. This plant is known in many countries as the "flower of passion" or "flower of love".

And, although hibiscus has no relationship with the common rose, the external resemblance to it is determined by the serrated leaves of this plant, similar to slightly enlarged rose leaves, and charming flowers and buds, so reminiscent of a blooming rose hip.

  • Hibiscus flowers are large, presented in different colors, and their hallmark is that the accreted pistil and stamens, sitting among large delicate wide-open petals, form a single long rod that extends beyond the petals.
  • The whole type of plant attracts with its beauty and charm. The hibiscus bush itself also has a decorative effect. Glossy dark green leaves cover the entire crown of the plant, and the lignified trunk gives the hibiscus the appearance of a small standard tree.

In nature, this plant reaches 3-4 meters, and at home this figure is slightly lower. The maximum that a plant can stretch in an apartment is 1.5 meters. However, the wide branches of the hibiscus and well-developed roots require a lot of space, so it is often grown in tubs, placed on the floor.

Humidity level

This flower usually requires good drainage soil and a stable supply of organic matter. It is necessary to take care of him at home competently, but without much difficulty. It is enough to maintain a certain moisture content in the soil, avoiding root rot in too damp soil.

  • It is desirable that the composition of the substrate contains clay, which in a tall flower bed will help the plant develop faster and grow as efficiently as possible.
  • It is advisable to mulch the soil for the prevention of diaper rash.
  • Frequent watering should not cause the water to stagnate in the pot.
  • The drip irrigation method will be effective. When watering, it is better to avoid getting water on the petals - they are too delicate and may deteriorate.
  • The flower needs to be sprayed regularly enough to create a humid atmosphere.

In it, the Chinese rose "breathes" better, gets additional moisture. This factor is of great importance at home, when batteries and heaters are actively working next to the rose.

Air circulation and lighting

The Chinese rose requires an intense supply of air, so it will be uncomfortable in musty rooms. If several specimens of hibiscus grow at home, do not put them side by side. It is best to avoid heat and direct sunlight.

If the plant lives in tropical and hot conditions, then in this case the best option there will be an episodic shadow. If the variety of the Chinese rose is not blooming, then it will be able to grow quietly in conditions of constant shade.

This is a flower loyal to any conditions, which easily and carelessly tolerates any window sill, except, perhaps, the southern and northern - these are extremes.

Better to choose a place with variable or diffused light... Southern sunlight can burn leaves and flowers, while the northern corner, on the contrary, will lead to a lack of chlorophyll and will have a bad effect on development - flowers will stop appearing.

Caring for a Chinese rose on the street is simple, and at home, the plant does not take much time and effort. Indoor hibiscus is native to the tropics, so it can fade quickly in cold climates. Some gardeners put the rose outside and return it to the house with the arrival of the cold season. The appearance of spots indicates improper care of the plant.

How to water a Chinese rose

Watering a Chinese rose is the most difficult moment in growing this plant at home. Hibiscus is very demanding about water and its quantity. Under no circumstances should the earth be allowed to dry out. In summer, the rose should be watered more often, in winter, the number of waterings should be reduced.

  • The earth must be constantly moist.
  • The ideal option is watering with special drip devices.
  • Practically all year round the Chinese rose must be sprayed.
  • This is especially necessary during the heating season, when the air is dry.

Watering and spraying is carried out only with settled water at room temperature. Moistening hibiscus foliage not only benefits from moisture saturation, but also prevents the risk of many diseases and pests.

During flowering spraying plants should be carried out with great care: moisture should be avoided on the buds.

floradoma.com

Priming

Hibiscus needs moisture and breathable soil. Ready-made, purchased peat-based soils are not quite suitable for successful cultivation hibiscus.

  • It is good to add leaf humus to these substrates, it structures the soil, makes it moisture-consuming.
  • The addition of sand, sod land will have a good effect.
  • The soil should be slightly acidic, pH 6.8. At other pH values, hibiscus will not be able to absorb the necessary nutrients from the substrate.

Top dressing

At the stage of intensive growth, hibiscus needs regular fertilizing with complex fertilizers. However, fertilizers for flowering plants are not suitable for him.

It has been noticed that Chinese hibiscus needs much less phosphorus than others. flowering plants, an excess of phosphorus negatively affects the quality of flowering, its abundance and causes plant poisoning. In this case, the potassium content should be high.

Optimal formula: NPK = 9-3-13; 10-4-12; 12-4-18 (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium). Therefore, the standard fertilizer for flowering with the formula NPK = 16-20-27 from POCON, NPK = 15-21-25 from Agricola, NPK = 3.8-7.6-7.5 from Etisso, etc. are not suitable for hibiscus ... In terms of composition, the universal fertilizer for potted plants from POCON with NPK = 7-3-7 turned out to be closest to the optimal formula.

In addition to the basic nutrients, hibiscus needs magnesium, it is the core of the chlorophyll molecule. With a lack of magnesium, chlorosis occurs, while the leaf turns yellow between the veins, which remain green, sometimes dark spots appear on the leaves.

  • To fill the magnesium deficiency, you can use Epsom salt, but it is better to purchase magnesium in chelated form (Siliplant), you can use Greenwold fertilizer for conifers with N - 3%, K - 2%, MgO - 5%, this will also serve as an additional source of N and K.
  • Top dressing should be carried out on cold days, early in the morning or in the evening after sunset and only on the previously shed earth.
  • You can feed it once a week, but it is better to apply fertilizers more often, but in proportionally reduced doses.

Hibiscus responds well to foliar dressing... For them, you need to dilute the fertilizer 10 times of the weekly dose for top dressing and spray the leaves in the morning or evening. With a decrease in the rate of vegetation, along with watering, the dose of fertilizers should also be reduced, with complete rest, completely cancel feeding. You cannot feed a recently transplanted plant.

Transfer

Let's start with a little background. The most common problem that growers face immediately after transplanting hibiscus is wilting. Why it happens? How to deal with this?

  • Firstly, it has been noticed that most often the hibiscus withers after transplantation, stops blooming and begins to lose foliage, precisely if purchased soil is used.
  • First, yellowing of the leaves is observed, after which they fall off. This is already a signal that it is time to sound the alarm and take active action.
  • The fact is that the purchased soil, as a rule, is prepared on the basis of peat, being too heavy for the Chinese rose, as hibiscus is also called.
  • The second reason is the planting capacity is too large. Remember that hibiscus needs a cramped flowerpot.

If the hibiscus begins to actively shed its foliage, immediately remove it from the pot, gently rinse the root system using a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate, and then transplant it into a smaller pot in leafy soil.

On a note: Moderate shedding of foliage is a normal physiological response to a hibiscus transplant. It is worth worrying only when there is a massive fall of hibiscus leaves after transplantation.

How to transplant a Chinese rose correctly?

To begin with, a hibiscus transplant is a must in caring for a plant. Hibiscus transplantation should be carried out exclusively in light, maximally nutritious soil. It is desirable that it is based on leafy soil, and not peat. The size of the flowerpot is said above - it should not be too large.

  • If you simply do not have a small flowerpot, compensate for this with a dense drainage layer - this is a perfectly acceptable trick that many growers resort to.
  • It is recommended to use expanded clay or pebbles as drainage.

Cover the bottom of the flowerpot with a drainage layer. In a planting container of a suitable size, the thickness of the drainage layer should not exceed 2 cm. Place a small layer of soil on top of the drainage. There is no need to mix these 2 layers.

Root system

By the way, before transplanting a hibiscus into a new planting container, it is necessary to check the condition of its root system. It is important to carefully remove the plant from the previous planting container. If it is plastic, for a start, slightly remember its sides, or at least knock on them so that the soil moves away from the walls of the flowerpot. Next, examine the root system. It should look healthy and firm, with no signs of decay or pests.

Next, arm yourself with a wooden stick or a regular pencil and gently shake off the remnants of the old soil from the root system of the plant. Do not be too zealous: only that which is easy to shake off should disappear. If you notice whitish round blotches in the peat, do not be alarmed: these are not pests, but only particles of perlite, which is added to the soil to increase its water and air permeability. Be careful when cleaning up the root system. Everything must be done so as not to injure the roots. Although the roots of a healthy hibiscus are usually quite strong.

Completion of the transplant

So, the flowerpot is prepared, the plant is prepared - it remains only to transplant it. Dip the plant into a pot and see how comfortable it is. If the pot is still too deep for the Chinese rose, add some more soil to the bottom.

  • Then lower the plant back into the pot and carefully fill the space between the walls of the pot and the roots with soil. In the process, the soil can and should be slightly compacted. It is advisable to place the hibiscus clearly in the center of the flowerpot.
  • When you finish planting, the distance between the surface of the soil and the edge of the flowerpot should be at least 1.5 cm, otherwise, during the watering process, water will roll off the surface of the soil.

Even if your hibiscus is in bloom, it can be repotted if done carefully. After all, a hibiscus transplant is, in fact, a transshipment, that is, you do not harm the plant, as well as its root system. Hibiscus after a transplant performed according to all the rules will not suffer at all.

If you watered the soil before removing the plant from the old flowerpot, you should not water it after transplanting. With watering, you can wait right up to the next day. If you have done without watering, water the hibiscus after transplanting.

Forming and pruning a Chinese rose at home

Hibiscus is considered one of the most beautiful plants, but in order for the tree to have a neat and cultured look, it needs care, or rather pruning. There are several types of trimming. One is designed to form the type of plant, its crown, with its help they stimulate the growth of the necessary shoots. Another pruning is for thinning and removing old, diseased and weak branches. Depending on the desired result, pruning tasks are set. Pruning the hibiscus is necessary, this will stimulate the emergence of new branches and abundant flowering.

Using the principles of the growth of a Chinese rose, you can form a bush, a standard tree and even a bonsai-style tree from it at home. pruning chinese rose

Types of trimming

Topping

This procedure stimulates the growth of new branches. In this case, only a small part of the shoot is removed, and the large part remains untouched. This species is considered sparing for the plant. This method is used primarily for young hibiscus.

Selective

This method is used to maintain the shape and size of the entire plant. It is carried out before the start of the growing season, primarily to obtain a lush and abundant flowering.

Corrective

It is used in cases where there are diseased branches. With this method, you can adjust the type of plant. The damaged part is cut to the place of living wood. If it is white and hard when cut, then such a branch is dead and will not grow.

Strong

This type of pruning is used when the plant is in a critical situation and does not help either good care no cure for the rose. The bush is affected by diseases or most of the shoots have died. trimmed hibiscus

Rules for successful pruning

  • First you need to decide for what purpose the pruning is carried out, and in what way it will be carried out. Flower formation in the Chinese rose occurs at the tops of the stems. When pruning branches, the tree begins to bush more and more flowers are formed. The plant is pruned in early spring, hibiscus can be pruned a little in the fall.
  • Pruning tools must be clean and very sharp. Poorly sharpened scissors and knives make the cut ragged, worsen the appearance of the plant, and the cut branches will take a long time to heal. Before each trimming procedure, the instruments are not only washed but also disinfected. It is best to use alcohol for disinfection.
  • It is best to prune hibiscus after transplanting, in spring or summer. After the procedures, the care for the rose remains the same.
  • Even before you start trimming, you need to decide which shape is needed. All cuts must be done at an angle of 45 degrees. Caring for the rose immediately after pruning, in order to avoid infection of the Chinese rose and for faster healing of wounds, includes sprinkling all the cuts with crushed coal. You can use charcoal or activated charcoal.
  • The top of the plant is pruned, stepping back from the place where the last upper branches grow. Secondary shoots are shortened when the plant finishes flowering.
  • The main rule for pruning a Chinese rose is that no more than 2/3 of all branches can be cut.

Thanks to these rules, the plant will receive minimal injuries that heal quickly.

How to prune hibiscus

The most popular form of hibiscus, which has a very effective appearance, is the stem. It is not so easy to form it at home, and after the plant takes on the desired shape, regular care is required for the branches to maintain the standard shape of the crown. But if you follow the instructions, you can get an amazing stem tree of the Chinese rose.

  • To obtain a standard form, a young hibiscus is chosen. Its central shoot must be straight. Then this shoot is tied to a reliable support at the same distance and do not remove it until the trunk becomes strong and stable. The growing side shoots are periodically removed.
  • When the plant reaches the required height, pinch the top of the plant. This is done to stimulate the growth of side shoots.
  • After removing the top, the hibiscus will begin to actively branch. Therefore, the side branches are shortened and pinched monthly. This measure will promote the growth of dormant buds and the growth of new shoots.

All lower shoots continue to be removed, and the upper ones do not touch. After a while, the plant will acquire the desired spherical shape.
To maintain a neat decorative shape at home, careful care is required. The hibiscus is periodically trimmed, not allowing the crown to grow. A haircut is done once a year at autumn months... If you do this at a different time, then the hibiscus will not bloom.

Bonsai shaped chinese rose

You can try to grow a bonsai-style tree from hibiscus. But the formation of a Chinese rose for such a plant is very difficult and time consuming. Professional florists can receive beautiful trees decorated with many flowers. Such plants will look very impressive and unusual in the interior. The main problem with bonsai formation is that hibiscus twigs quickly become thick and woody.

  • To form a bonsai, you need to take a young plant. Its branches are tied to supports and tensioners. Their growth must be guided very carefully; this can be done with the help of a wire.
  • When the branches reach a length of 10 - 20 cm, they need to be cut off and no more than three leaves are left.
  • When a young plant begins to form, this can affect flowering, but for the sake of a beautiful, well-groomed shape, it is worth waiting for the flowers to appear.

For trees that are already formed in the bonsai style, the shoots are shortened after flowering.
Chinese roses quite steadfastly endure the procedure of pruning shoots and shaping, therefore, special care for them after the work done is not needed. All fertilizing and watering is done as usual.

Do not be afraid to radically cut and thin out the hibiscus, but on the contrary, getting rid of old and unnecessary branches, the plant receives more nutrition for the formation of flowers and the growth of new strong shoots. The correct formation of the crown of the plant will make the hibiscus the main decoration of the house or greenhouse.

Reproduction of the Chinese rose at home

The beauty of hibiscus always delights, and the splendor of the colors is pleasing to the eye. The Chinese rose, as this plant is also called, is found in almost every home. Under natural conditions, hibiscus reproduces by its own seeds. At home, most often, this process is carried out in a vegetative way using cuttings.

With the arrival of spring, every amateur florist wants to put his collection of plants in order. A special place is given to reproduction, and any grower needs to know how to do this at home.

At home, you can use both methods of breeding decorative hibiscus:

  1. The seed method, in which hibiscus seeds are placed in the soil.
  2. Vegetative method - cuttings, which must first be rooted.

Seed propagation

Propagation by varietal seeds is a very exciting activity for amateur flower growers who like to experiment and can get a varied color scheme at home. The seeds retain excellent germination for five years, but before planting at home, you need to disinfect the seed in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

Presowing seed treatment

It is advisable to plant seeds in late February - early March.

For this you will need:

  • Soil mix.
  • Growth stimulants - epin or zircon.
  • Mini greenhouse.

Before sowing at home overnight, you need to soak the seeds so that the solution barely covers them, because the embryos need oxygen. Next, put the hibiscus seeds on a damp gauze. Put the gauze roll in a plastic bag (make holes for air ventilation) or in a mini-greenhouse for a thermal effect. From time to time, the greenhouse needs to be opened for ventilation. Such care is necessary so that the seeds do not die and make it possible to propagate the Chinese rose.

Heat and moisture are important conditions for seed germination.

Sprout care

After a few days, the seeds will hatch and small sprouts will appear. The mini-greenhouse should be ventilated every day, and the sprouts should be sprayed with warm water. Maintain the temperature at 22-27 degrees. As soon as 2-3 leaves appear, the plants need to be dived into small pots.

  • Take the soil, consisting of humus and sod land in equal proportions.
  • A commercial seedling mixture, which consists of peat with the addition of sand and ash, is also suitable.
  • Seedlings need to be shed with a solution of foundationol in order to avoid fungal disease - "black leg".
  • It is important to observe moderate watering and diffused light.

You need to know how the Chinese rose reproduces in order to get a healthy plant at home. Hibiscus grown from seeds will bloom for 3-4 years. It is necessary to replant the plant every year until it fully matures.

Vegetative method of propagation of a rose tree

The best flowers are those that are grown by hand. Reproduction of hibiscus by cuttings can be carried out almost all year round, but best of all - spring and summer.

Before transplanting an adult hibiscus at home, pruning is first carried out, where the cuttings are harvested. To propagate any hibiscus, the mother plant must first be watered abundantly. For any indoor hibiscus, care and transplantation depends on the needs of the plant.

For grafting, you need to take branches with a strong green stem and leave 2-3 internodes on it, and remove all the lower leaves.

To get a beautiful blooming hibiscus at home, propagation by cuttings can be done in two ways of rooting: in water and in soil.

A new plant grown in soil

Hibiscus is planted after strong roots have formed. For this process you will need:

  • Capacity for planting flowers (cups, greenhouse).
  • Soil (sheet soil - 2 parts, peat - 1, sand - 1).
  • Heteroauxin powder (for better root formation).

You need to take the cups and fill with soil by a third. Before planting the stalk at home, dip the prepared stalk in heteroauxin and, after making a hole in the soil, plant it. Tamp the soil around it and pour warm water. The soil should be loose, with the addition of peat. Root formation at the appendix lasts 25–30 days.

Cuttings take root wonderfully in a mini-greenhouse, a home greenhouse that can be made with improvised means (plastic food container, plastic bag, glass jar).

Place the cups where the cuttings take root in a greenhouse or cover with a plastic bag. In order for a young plant to plant favorably, it needs to get used to the changed living conditions, therefore it is important to create increased humidity and maintain the temperature at 22 - 25 ° C.

This is the first vegetative way to reproduce hibiscus at home.

Rooting a plant in water

You can get decorative hibiscus by propagation by cuttings that have taken root. You just need to adhere to some techniques:

  • The container should be made of dark glass.
  • The water is warm, settled.
  • Add two tablets of activated carbon to the water.
  • Add a few drops of fertilizer to feed the cuttings.
  • Place the vessel with the processes in a well-lit place, but not in direct sunlight.
  • Carry out the care of the rose, monitor the formation of roots and add water in time.

After it starts up the roots of 5-7 centimeters, and when 1-2 new leaves appear, it must be transplanted into a pot with earth.

This is the second vegetative way to reproduce the rose tree at home.

Before rooting a flower, you need to decide which method is more suitable.

Features of caring for a young flower

After the hibiscus has taken root, the transfer is carried out into a pot 1 cm larger than the previous one.To get a strong hibiscus, care and reproduction is based on the quality of the soil, the selected fertilizer and compliance with the irrigation regime.

For productive reproduction of the Chinese rose, the soil should be easily aerated, moisture resistant, containing a nutrient mixture. Before planting a young hibiscus, you need to choose a substrate in which the root system develops well. For example:

  1. 7 pieces of land with humus;
  2. 3 parts of peat;
  3. 2 pieces of sand;
  4. 5–6 g of lime and 30 g of universal fertilizer per 10 liters of substrate;
  5. horn shavings, bone meal.

On the bottom of the pot, before planting the rooted hibiscus, put a drain, and then pour the earth. A young flower grows quickly if the necessary care is followed, and within a year you can get an adult flowering bush. In order for a beautiful crown to form in a hibiscus after transplantation, it is pinched. Soon, on young branches, flower buds.

This flowering plant requires systematic watering and care, timely transplantation. Take water at home only at room temperature. Water the hibiscus regularly during the active growth period.

Excess moisture also negatively affects hibiscus. If the substrate is waterlogged, a fungal disease of the root system may appear, which leads to the death of the plant, because water interferes with the breathing of the roots of the Chinese rose.

Frequent mistakes

When hibiscus is propagated or transplanted at home, common mistakes occur among florists:

  • If the flower sheds unopened buds, it means that it lacks nutrients or poor watering, or low air temperature. In the spring, you need to transfer the hibiscus to the nutrient soil or fertilize. Put in a warm place.
  • New leaves are blooming yellow color, and the lower ones fall off - with chlorosis, lack of nitrogen and iron. It is necessary to defend water for irrigation or add iron chelate (according to the instructions). In dry indoor air, you need to spray the Chinese rose more often.

This noble flower from Asia won the hearts of flower growers with its beauty and ease of care. And if you take care of it: fertilize, water on time, transplant, heal, then the rose tree will delight with abundant flowering for more than one year.

Major diseases of hibiscus

The plant is quite unpretentious, therefore even serious oversights, if they occur in a single quantity, cannot cause significant harm to it. But a systematic violation of the conditions of agricultural technology will definitely provoke trouble, the plant will begin to wither, feel bad, and get sick. All known hibiscus diseases can occur due to the following phenomena:

  • Being in a hot, dry room.
  • Lack of spraying, especially in the summer.
  • Being in the wind, in a draft, in direct sunlight.
  • Dustiness, contamination of hibiscus.
  • Excessive watering, which caused root rot.
  • Watering a Chinese rose with bad water (not settled, containing a lot of harmful impurities).
  • Pest infestation as a result of contact with diseased plants.
  • Lack of transplants, fertilizing with fertilizers.
  • "Overfeeding" hibiscus with nutritious fertilizers.
  • Poor lighting, or the flip of the flower with the other side to the sun.

If the living conditions of the Chinese rose are favorable, then it grows for a very long time, and blooms from March to October and even longer. But the violations described above, subject to their regular influence, can provoke various diseases.

Leaf diseases

Separately, I would like to dwell on the problems and symptoms that arise with disorders of the vital activity and development of the flower. Leaf diseases in most cases are triggered by chlorosis - a decrease in the production of chlorophyll in the green part of the plant. Below are the main symptoms of trouble in a hibiscus state, as well as their possible causes:

Treatment of diseases

Most plant problems are solved by bringing its content back to normal. For this, it is important to provide the following conditions:

Treatment of hibiscus diseases is carried out depending on the existing problems. To avoid sunburn, those plants that are grown in greenhouses must be exposed to the sun for an hour and a half a day, and only then begin to leave them for a longer period. Leaves that have already become covered with burn spots will fall off, new ones will grow to replace them.

Against non-infectious chlorosis, regular feeding of the plant with fertilizers, which can be found in any flower shop, helps. Before watering, water with iron deficiency must be flavored with iron chelate.

Timely transplantation, avoiding contact with diseased plants, cleaning from dirt and dust, and fertilizing will help prevent infectious chlorosis. Periodically, the flower must be washed under the shower, covering the ground with cellophane. Temporary quarantine is required for all new plants.

It is very difficult to treat the vascular wilting of hibiscus; it is far from always possible to cure it. Many plants die quickly, sometimes their leaves do not even have time to fall. You can try to get rid of the problem in the following ways:

  • Cut off all dry areas, slightly capturing healthy parts of the flower
  • Treat the whole plant with special antifungal drugs (Dezavid, Zircon, Thunder-2, Domotsvet, Tsitovit, Epin, Alirin-B, etc.)
  • Sprinkle a Chinese rose with Trichopolum solution (2 tablets per liter of water) - folk method

Pests

Plant pests settle on it after contact with diseased flowers, or when transplanted into infected soil. Most often, the following pests are placed on a Chinese rose:

  1. Aphid. Small insect settling on buds, young shoots. It multiplies quickly, creates colonies, destroying young leaves and unopened flowers, which initially become sticky.
  2. Spider mite (red spider). It is invisible without a magnifying glass, it lives from the bottom of the leaf, enveloping it with a shell, similar to a cobweb. It reproduces best in warm, dry air.
  3. Greenhouse whitefly. Causes yellowing of leaves, covering them with sticky secretions. The insects themselves or their yellow larvae can be seen from the bottom of the leaf.
  4. Worms. They manifest themselves as waxy white secretions on cuttings, in the axils of the leaves.
  5. Shields, false shields. After colonization, brown tubercles are observed on the stems.
  6. Gallica. This midge causes dropping, yellowing of leaves and buds, which do not have time to bloom. Inside the buds, small midge eggs can be found, from which worms emerge. They eat the buds from the inside, which fall together with them on the soil.

What to process

The question of how to treat hibiscus for diseases, in the presence of pests, is very relevant. If the prevention of diseases caused by pests turned out to be ineffective, then the following treatment methods are carried out:

  • From aphids - treatment of the flower with Anabazine, Nicotine sulfate. It is recommended to change the drug more often - for Decis, Fitoverm, Intra-vir, Tobacco dust. With a single lesion of the leaves of aphids, treatment with a soap solution helps well.
  • From scabbards - spraying with Actellik solution or other insecticides.
  • From the worm - processing the leaves with mineral oil, which is done only when the plant is in the shade.
  • For whitefly - treatment with Aktara, Karbofos, Iskra, Tanrek, Biotlin, Bison, potash soap application.
  • From spider mites - washing the plant with soapy water, treatment with preparations Lightning, Vertimek, Akarin, Fitoverm.
  • From gall midge - collection of affected buds, preventing them from falling to the soil. The soil itself must be treated with any medicine for soil pests.

Of folk remedies, which can be used to combat plant pests, are popular:

  • Pour dry red pepper with water (1: 2), cook for an hour, drain. 10 gr. dilute the resulting solution in a liter of soapy water, process the plant. This method works well against ticks, aphids
  • Dry mustard (50 gr.) Boil in a liter of water for 15 minutes, let cool. Dilute the product in 20 liters of water, rinse the flower leaves from aphids, scale insects

If you follow all the conditions for growing a plant, then it is unlikely to have problems in the form of diseases and pest infestation. A healthy hibiscus will bloom for a long time and delight its owner.

Chinese hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), also called the Chinese rose, is the most popular species of the genus Hibiscus of the Malvaceae family among gardeners. The genus of hibiscus unites about 200 species, but the Chinese rose is the most popular in culture. The homeland of such a plant is the northern part of Indochina and the south of China. It was from there that the flower spread over the tropical and subtropical regions of the planet Earth. This plant is so fond of flower growers and gardeners that, for example, in Malaysia it is considered one of the symbols of the country, and it is also depicted there on coins. By the way, they call it Bungaraya there. In those places where climatic conditions are not suitable for cultivating such a flower in the garden, it is grown indoors or in greenhouses.

  1. Bloom... It begins in the spring and ends with the onset of autumn.
  2. Illumination... It can grow in a shady place, as well as in bright, but diffused light.
  3. Temperature regime... In the summer, from 18 to 20 degrees, and in the winter months - no colder than 15 degrees.
  4. ... It should be carried out after the top layer of the soil mixture dries out to a depth of 20 to 30 mm.
  5. ... It should be tall. Experts advise, in the spring and summer period, to systematically moisten the flower from a spray bottle.
  6. Fertilizer... Regular feeding is carried out in April – September with a frequency of 1 time in half a month, while it is recommended to alternate organic matter with complex mineral fertilizer. If in winter time the bush continues to bloom, then it is fed with potassium-phosphorus fertilizer, while taking ¼ of the recommended dosage.
  7. ... In the spring before the beginning of budding.
  8. Dormant period... It is not pronounced.
  9. Transfer... While the bush is young, it must be replanted regularly once a year. More mature plants (starting from five years old) are transplanted less often, or rather, once every 3 or 4 years.
  10. Reproduction... Seed method and cuttings.
  11. Harmful insects... Thrips, aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, spider mites.
  12. Diseases... Chlorosis, root rot, bacterial blight, brown rot, leaf bronzing and ring spot viruses.

Indoor Chinese rose, also called indoor hibiscus, is a small evergreen tree or shrub, the height of which can reach about 300 cm in greenhouse conditions, and up to 200 cm at home.Externally, the foliage is similar to birch leaves, it is glossy, smooth, dark green in color. elongated oval, corrugated, and serrated along the edge. During flowering, the bush is decorated with spectacular single flowers. First, narrow buds are formed, which after opening become double or simple flowers in shape similar to wide cups, reaching 8-14 centimeters across. The color of the flowers, depending on the variety, can be yellow, pink, white or red. After opening, the flower withers after 1-2 days, but if the plant is well cared for, then its flowering can last from early spring to late autumn. Indoor hibiscus at home, if desired, can be cultivated as a standard tree.

This culture is not only an ornamental plant. In those countries where it is found in the wild, its flowers are used to make dyes for food and hair, salads are prepared from its young shoots, and its dry fruits are part of famous medicinal teas, for example: Sudanese rose, Hibiscus tea and etc.

Inexperienced flower growers are not very popular with the seed method of propagating perennial flowers; they prefer to propagate such plants vegetatively, since this is a faster and more effective method. However, the Chinese rose belongs to those plants that are easily propagated both by seed and cuttings. The fact is that hibiscus seeds have a very high germination capacity, and the crops do not need special care, so it is really very easy to grow such a rose from a seed. It should also be taken into account that the seed material of such a plant remains viable for 6 years.

Sowing seeds is carried out in the last days of February. Shortly before sowing, the seed is immersed in a pink potassium manganese solution for 30 minutes, after which it is thoroughly washed under running water. After that, it is placed in a solution of an agent that stimulates growth (Zircon, Epin or Fumara) for 24 hours, while making sure that it only slightly covers the seeds, otherwise the embryos may die due to a lack of oxygen. Next, the seed is folded into moistened gauze for germination, do not forget to provide it with systematic ventilation. For the seeds to hatch, they need a lot of heat and moisture. In this regard, after they are placed in wet gauze, they are placed in a polyethylene bag in which there are several holes, through which air will flow to the seeds. After the sprouts appear, and as a rule, this happens about the third day, the seeds are planted in separate plastic cups with a volume of 0.5-1 liter. They are filled with a substrate consisting of peat, sand and wood ash. Make sure that the main root of the seedling does not wriggle or bend during growth. The planted seeds are covered with a thin layer of soil mixture, and the containers are covered with paper (film) on top.

In order to prevent black leg, seedlings are spilled with a weak solution of Fundazole. For the same purpose, provide the plants with moderate watering. In order for them to grow and develop well, they will need a large amount of diffused light, be sure to protect the seedlings from direct sunlight.

Illumination

Chinese hibiscus should be placed in a well-lit place near a window, but make sure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight. If the bush feels a lack of sunlight, then it may not bloom. In the spring and summer, when it is warm outside, it is recommended to transfer the flower to fresh air, do not forget to provide it with protection from drafts and scorching sun rays.

Temperature regime

In summer, hibiscus grows well at temperatures ranging from 18 to 25 degrees and above. In the winter months, make sure that the room is no colder than 15 degrees, but if the air temperature drops to 10 degrees, then the bush can throw off all the foliage.

This flower needs high humidity. In this regard, in the warm season, it must be systematically and quite often moistened with a spray bottle. Also, the bush should be sprayed during a warm winter. In some cases, a warm shower is recommended for him, which will help wash off all dust and dirt from the foliage, and also get rid of spider mites. However, make sure that no moisture gets on the buds and flowers, as this will cause stains on their surface and they will fly around. In order to constantly maintain high air humidity, it is necessary to pour expanded clay or pebbles into the pallet and pour in a little water, make sure that the bottom of the container does not come into contact with the liquid.

In order for a rose to grow and bloom well, it must be properly watered. For irrigation, use well-settled water at room temperature. This procedure is carried out only after the top layer of the substrate dries out to a depth of 20-30 mm.

Fertilizer

Top dressing is carried out in April – September 2 times a month. For this, it is recommended to use fertilizer for flowering indoor plants, or you can alternately introduce organic matter and complex mineral fertilizer into the soil mixture. In winter, top dressing is carried out only when there are flowers on the bush; for this, potash-phosphorus fertilizer is used (1/4 of the dose recommended by the manufacturer).

Hibiscus should be pruned in the spring, shortly before transplanting, and should not have buds and flowers on it. Thanks to pruning, you can make the plant bloom ahead of time, and also it will form a larger number of flowering shoots, and the bush itself will become very thick and effective. When pruning, cut off those shoots that are stretched, dried or bare, while the remaining ones are shortened by ½ part. Places of cuts must be smeared with garden varnish so that juice does not flow from them. Cut shoots can make good cuttings from which new bushes can be grown.

In order to rejuvenate an adult bush, all its shoots must be cut at a height of 15 centimeters, but make sure that there is at least one bud on each segment. After the young shoots begin to grow actively, it will be necessary to cut off all the weak ones, while only the strongest and completely healthy branches should remain. In the summer, the bush is cut off again, as a result, flower buds will form on the regrown shoots only in September. But the lush flowering of the rejuvenated bush will continue until spring.

A properly sized planting container should be a little tight. If you choose an excessively large pot, then the rose will begin to actively grow greens and shoots to the detriment of flowering. During transplantation, it should be borne in mind that the new container should be only 20-30 mm in diameter larger than the old one.

If the bush is still young, then it needs systematic transplants, which are carried out once a year. But after the plant turns 5 years old, they begin to transplant it much less often, or rather, once every 3 or 4 years. Old hibiscus plants do not need to be replanted, but they will have to replace the top layer of soil mixture in a pot 20–30 mm thick annually.

For planting and transplanting, a soil mixture is used, which includes leaf, sod and humus soil, and also sand (2: 2: 1: 1). To transplant young specimens into the substrate, you still need to add 2 parts of peat soil. In order to prevent liquid stagnation in the root system, a good drainage layer must be made at the bottom of the planting container; for this, you can use pieces of brick, expanded clay or ceramic fragments. In order to protect the plant's root system from damage, the transplant must be carried out by the transshipment method.

The Chinese hibiscus does not have a pronounced dormant period. However, if you need the bush to rest, you can enter it into a dormant state with your own hands; for this, watering is reduced to the required minimum, but this is done gradually. After all the leaf plates have flown around from the plant, it is necessary to carry out anti-aging pruning, while each shoot is shortened to 15 centimeters. Then the bush is removed for the winter in a shaded and cold (from 10 to 12 degrees) place. Watering should be rare, and the surface of the substrate should be covered with a paper bag or mat, which will allow the soil mixture to remain moist for a longer time. With the onset of spring, the bush is transferred to a well-lit place (the light should be diffused), after which they begin to gradually increase the abundance and frequency of watering to the required rate, this helps to stimulate the growth of new shoots.

It has already been mentioned above that the Chinese rose can be propagated quite easily by seed. You can also do this by cuttings. For example, as cuttings, you can use those shoots that were cut from a bush during spring pruning. The cut sites are treated with a root growth stimulating agent (Heteroauxin or Kornenvin), then the cuttings are placed in a glass of water for rooting or planted in a soil mixture consisting of peat and sand, and covered with a transparent glass jar on top. The roots should appear after 20-30 days. When this happens, the cuttings are planted in a soil mixture suitable for Chinese hibiscus, and they are also pinched, so that the bushes will grow more lush and branched. About 2 months after planting, when the cuttings have taken root, they may have flowers.

Also, the rose can be propagated by apical cuttings, which must have 2 or 3 internodes. They are harvested in July or August.

Chinese rose pests and diseases

Most often, the Chinese rose suffers from such harmful insects as aphids, thrips and spider mites. As a rule, they settle on those bushes that have been weakened by improper care, and the most common cause of pests is excessively low humidity in the room.

A bush affected by pests must be systematically moistened from a sprayer, using well-settled water at room temperature. Also, do not forget to put the pot on wet expanded clay, poured into a pallet. If there are not very many insects, then the bush is sprayed 2 times with a half-month break with an infusion of hot pepper, which is mixed with a small amount of liquid soap. In the event that there are a lot of pests on the flower, you will have to spray it with Actellik's solution (15 drops of the drug per 1 liter of water). As a rule, the foliage changes its color to yellow when chlorosis appears, which develops due to the fact that in the water for irrigation contains a lot of chlorine and calcium. To save the bush, watering should be carried out only with well-settled water, while iron chelate will need to be added to it (the required dosage should be indicated in the instructions for the drug).

  • The foliage is yellower due to overflow... If, for irrigation, well-settled non-cold water is used, but the foliage on the rose still turns yellow, then this may be due to the fact that liquid constantly stagnates in the substrate. If there are not very many yellowed leaves, then the situation can be corrected by reducing watering, or it is better to replace it for a while by moistening the bush from a spray bottle. If there is a massive yellowing of the foliage, then it is necessary to transplant the bush into a fresh substrate as soon as possible. During transplanting, carefully inspect the roots of the bush and cut off any that have rot.
  • Foliage turns yellow due to poor lighting... If the bush does not have enough light for normal growth and development, then it can also begin to turn yellow en masse and fly around the leaf plates. Sometimes there is a real leaf fall. There are other reasons why hibiscus leaves can turn yellow.
  • Flying around foliage... Leaf plates can fall off not only due to lack of light, but also due to sudden changes in temperature or from a draft. To save the bush, it is enough to start caring for the plant correctly and provide it with all the necessary conditions for normal development and growth. However, if only a few leaves have fallen, then you do not need to worry about this, as this is normal for deciduous trees.
  • The rose dries... If the bush receives a sufficient amount of liquid, but its foliage dries up anyway, then this may be its reaction to being moved to another place. Leaves can also dry up near a bush that has been exposed to low temperatures. In this case, it will take him time to warm up and bounce back.
  • Withering bush... As a rule, this is due to the fact that the bush does not have enough water. It can also happen with a recently transplanted bush that has not yet had time to take root. It can also be associated with rotting roots. In this case, remove the flower from the pot, remove the remaining soil mixture from its root system and immerse it in a weak solution of potassium manganese for 30 minutes. The treated plant is planted in a new, not very large pot, which is filled with a light soil mixture (vermiculite must be added to a soil mixture suitable for hibiscus). If everything is done correctly and in a timely manner, then you may be able to save the flower.
  • Lack of flowering... A rose may not bloom for several reasons, but the most common of them is overfeeding the plant with nitrogen, especially if the bush is completely healthy and has fur foliage. Flowering may also be absent due to poor lighting, with insufficient watering during intensive growth, and also due to wintering in an excessively warm place. In order for the Chinese rose to begin to bloom, it is necessary to correct all the errors in the care, and also to exclude all the above reasons.
  • Since the Chinese rose is very popular among flower growers, there are many different rumors and incredible stories about it that look more like fiction. Some of these fables are mutually exclusive, for example, in one source it is said that this flower is “muzhegonnom” and it can cause the soonest divorce of spouses, and in another source, on the contrary, it is advised to purchase this plant for a single woman, because it attracts house of men. There are those who call hibiscus "the flower of death", they argue that if the bush begins to bloom out of time, it is a harbinger of the imminent death of a loved one or a relative of the owner of the plant. If mass foliage begins to fall, then this is a sign that very soon someone from the household will become very sick.

An interesting fact is that all these superstitions and omens associated with the Chinese rose exist only in Russia, while in other countries it is considered just a very spectacular ornamental plant.

Where can you keep a Chinese rose at home?

According to feng shui, a Chinese rose cannot be grown at home because it is capable of absorbing energy. If you want to decorate your home with hibiscus, then only you can decide whether to believe it or not. Alternatively, the flower can be placed in the living room, where it will look very attractive, and can also purify the air from harmful substances. And least of all a bedroom and a children's room are suitable for him.

Chinese rose, or scientifically hibiscus, rather unpretentious in care indoor plant... She is able to tolerate insufficient lighting, and irregular watering, as well as not picky about temperature conditions... How does indoor Chinese rose propagate? I will try to give a comprehensive answer to this question in this article. There are two typical ways to propagate a Chinese rose at home:

    • Vegetative propagation
    • Seed reproduction

    Vegetative propagation of hibiscus

The easiest way is to propagate there are several rooting schemes for hibiscus cuttings.

The first scheme is the rooting of hibiscus in the soil. In February-March, you need to cut a couple of cuttings from an adult plant and root them in wet sand. Organizing a small greenhouse from a film or can will speed up the result. After 25-30 days, the cutting is ready for transplanting.

The second scheme is rooting in water. First you need to take a container, preferably made of dark glass or plastic, filled with water, put cuttings in it, then cover the dishes with a cap, for example, with a plastic bag, jar or glass, to increase humidity. The optimum temperature is 25-27 degrees. Then you just have to wait for the roots to appear.

After the roots appear, the plant must be transplanted into a pot with a diameter of no more than 9 centimeters. The best solution for soil would be this: add one part of peat and one part of sand to two parts of the earth.

    Seed propagation of hibiscus

The most uncommon method, due to its inefficiency. With this method, most likely it will not be possible to preserve the varietal characteristics of the plant. However, if you still decide to propagate the Chinese rose by seed, then this instruction is for you.

The best time to start is considered the end of winter - the beginning of spring. The seeds are immersed in water with a stimulant dissolved in it and soaked. Epin, humate, fumar, zircon, potassium, etc. are well suited as a stimulant. During the period of soaking the seeds in the solution, it is worth stirring them two or three times.

After this procedure, you can start germinating seeds. At this stage, they should be placed on a damp cotton cloth and covered with a plastic bag. After about three days, most seeds begin to hatch.

Next, you need to prepare cups with soil in which we will plant seeds. A mixture of earth, peat, ash, and sand works well as soil. We put the sprouted seeds in cups and cover them with earth a little, and cover the cups themselves with a bag or glass. After about a week or two, the first shoots appear.

It is worth watering young seedlings sparingly, because an excess of moisture for them is sure death. Also, do not immediately expose young seedlings to direct sunlight, this should be done gradually.

After a couple of months, when the seedlings have grown stronger, they need to be transplanted into a pot of small diameter. Seedlings are planted in a mixture of peat and sand together with an earthen clod so as not to damage the young roots.

The Chinese rose belongs to the genus Hibiscus, which is why it is called that in everyday life. The plant is an easy-to-maintain evergreen shrub that reaches a height of 3 m. Its homeland is the south of China, but the flower grows successfully in other regions with a tropical and subtropical climate. Used in landscape design as ornamental plant... To date, many new varieties have been bred with interesting shapes and shades of colors - pink-porcelain, ivory, lilac, rich raspberry.

Hibiscus is essentially a tree, although some species are classified as shrubs. Belongs to the Malvov family (in total, it includes about 300 species). Hibiscus can be of different origins - some of them are imported from the New World (the so-called "Floridians"). In Russian climatic conditions, only two beautifully flowering species can grow in open ground - the Syrian and triple hibiscus, and the Chinese rose is grown at home or in a greenhouse. Many people confuse it with another plant - garden hibiscus. But the latter is a hybrid that was bred in the 1950s and can actually be grown in the garden, while the Chinese rose in temperate latitudes is always an indoor variety.

Chinese hibiscus looks quite impressive due to its dark green leaves, smooth and shiny, and large flowers, which reach 16 cm in diameter. Despite the name, the plant has nothing to do with real roses. Its flower has an interesting shape, more like a mallow. In natural conditions, it blooms in March, the plant blooms until October.

Nevertheless, Chinese hibiscus is quite demanding on temperatures - in summer it feels comfortable only if it is more than +25 degrees outside, and in winter - at +12 ° С.

    Reproduction

Growing and reproducing hibiscus at home is possible in several ways:

    1. 1. Seeds. This is not the most common method, but it is productive, since the seeds give a lot of shoots. It is recommended to plant them at the end of February. Before planting, the seeds must be disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and then washed with water. Then you need to lower them into a container with a growth stimulator for a day. The material is then kept in damp gauze and unrolled once a day to allow access to fresh air. When sprouts appear, they need to be planted in a mixture of soil, ash, sand and peat. In the future, you can plant seedlings in separate containers or plant on the site (the strongest specimens).
    2. 2. Cuttings. This is the most popular way to help propagate the plant at home. Cuttings are selected and cut back in the spring, then treated with a growth stimulant and placed in a container with water. When the roots appear, you can plant them in a container in which a mixture of soil, peat and humus is previously prepared. Rooting takes place within a month. When young shoots grow up, they are pinched to give the bush a beautiful shape.
    3. 3. Dividing the bush or layering. This is a rather complicated method. It is rarely used at home, but in theory, the procedure can be carried out when growing hibiscus in the garden, carefully separating the shoots from the main bush with a sharp tool.

    Growing features

To keep a Chinese rose at home, you need a pot that is large enough, but not too spacious. If there is too much space in the container, the grower will end up with a lot of leaves, but there will be few flowers. When grown in a pot, Chinese hibiscus is recommended to be replanted annually, choosing a new container a couple of centimeters wider than the previous one.

The Chinese rose prefers slightly acidic soils with a pH of 6.8. It is imperative to include sod soil (4 parts), deciduous (2 parts), humus (1 part), sand (1 part) in the composition of the soil.

At the bottom of the pot, you need to lay out a drainage layer, for which clay shards, broken brick or stones are suitable. This is necessary in order to prevent stagnation of water at the root system and to avoid rotting.

If it is not possible to transplant hibiscus, you need to carefully cut its roots by a third, and then change the soil in the pot to a new one every 3 years.

Transplanting a Chinese rose is straightforward. The only caveat is that you need to do a preliminary pruning, remove shoots without leaves and dried branches, and cut the rest by half.

    Care

Careful care for hibiscus is necessary mainly on initial stages... For a young plant, the formation of a beautiful bush is of particular importance. This is done by trimming. You need to remove weak shoots, leaving no more than a couple of centimeters from the buds. If a small hibiscus is grown for decorative purposes, pruning and shaping the bush will take a lot of effort, since almost the entire crown will have to be trimmed. Otherwise, the plant will direct all its forces to the growth of shoots, and not to flowering.

Pruning is desirable during the cold season - at the very end of winter or early March, while the hibiscus has not started to grow. Spring pruning also has health benefits. Some growers prefer to do this in the fall, when the plant has faded. You need to cut off exactly those branches on which flowers bloomed in the current year.

When carrying out spring pruning, remember that the flowers of Chinese hibiscus usually bloom at the tops of shoots that are at least three months old.

When a plant is in bloom, it needs more natural light. It is necessary to find such a place so that the direct rays of the sun do not fall on the flower, otherwise the leaves of the bush will dry out. During the flowering period, it is recommended to feed the hibiscus. It is not necessary to use fertilizers - you can take 1 tsp. sugar, dilute it with warm water (200-250 ml) and add to the root.

In hot weather, the plant needs additional moisture. Watering should be regular, but not too abundant. This means that you can only water the Chinese rose after the soil under the plant has completely dried out. If the drought lasts long enough, the hibiscus will need to be watered daily.

In winter, the plant begins a dormant period. At home, it can be kept on an unheated, but insulated outside and glazed balcony - these are quite comfortable conditions for a flower. In the southern regions, some varieties remain to winter in the ground, while they must be covered with special agrotextiles for the cold season. If there is no such fiber, spruce branches can be used.

    Potential problems and pests

Hibiscus is very resistant to insects and diseases. But if the summer is hot and dry, it can be attacked by aphids, spider mites and thrips. To get rid of pests, the site owner will have to double-treat the plant with insecticides. For this, drugs such as Fitoverm, Karbofos, Aktellik are used, and the interval between their applications should be 7-10 days.

Hibiscus grown in the garden is prone to chlorosis. The plant's lower leaves fall off, and those that grow in this place have a yellowish tint almost from the very beginning. The reason for the disease is that the soil in the garden contains too little iron and nitrogen, so they are added to the soil in addition, adding iron chelate to the water left for irrigation (in the dosage set by the manufacturer).

Gardeners who grow hibiscus most often face the following problems:

    1. 1. Leaves turn yellow. This happens not only with chlorosis, but also in cases where the root system of the plant is injured (most often during transplantation). If the cause was mechanical damage, then drugs like Zircon or Kornevin are added to the water for irrigation - with exact observance of the amount prescribed by the instructions. Such a composition can also be used with water for spraying leaves, but no more than 2-3 drops of the product per 0.5 l of liquid. Sometimes hibiscus leaves turn yellow from the heat - in this case, you need to adjust the watering regime.
    2. 2. The plant does not bloom. This problem is most often associated with a lack of boron and phosphorus. This conclusion can be reached only if all the rules of agricultural technology are observed, the Chinese rose grows in a spacious, bright area, but there are still no flowers. If the shoots have slowed down growth, it means that there is not enough nitrogen in the soil. Top dressing applied on time will ensure lush and long flowering.
    3. 3. Leaves are falling. It should be noted that this happens quite often in autumn and is considered a natural phenomenon.
