Practical, but rather indifferent to diversity, people are interested in how to paint wallpaper with water-based paint, pursuing several goals at once. Firstly, although wallpapering is not too technologically difficult, it still requires dismantling (and therefore dirty and laborious) work and takes a lot of time.

Secondly, there are often situations when the coating did not come off the walls, did not hang in rags, but faded and faded. That is, it requires replacement, although it is still functional.

Thirdly, you may simply want something new in your life, but you are reluctant to start a global repair.

And, fourthly, there is often a desire to simply show their creative inclinations. This is the main value of the wallpaper for painting: once pasted it on - and until they tear, change the interior at least every year.

How to paint wallpaper with water-based paint, we will tell you in detail, but first we want to draw your attention to some subtleties.

A little about wallpaper and paints

Not all wallpapers can be painted with water emulsion, even if they are positioned for painting. This is due to the water base of the paint, which can soften the coating itself or dissolve the glue as it is attached. For example, paper wallpaper can only be painted with acrylic paints.

For the use of water-based emulsion, in any case, non-woven and, with reservations, vinyl are suitable. The latter should be two-layer: the water emulsion penetrates through one layer of material, albeit with some difficulty.

By the way, if you are going to use oil paint, then the surfaces cannot be pasted over with non-woven - it is destroyed by the diluents included in it.

  • Do not be upset if the wallpaper that was once glued is slightly damaged. The possibility of their painting is determined only by the strength of their adhesion to the walls. If they hold up well, you just need to do some restoration work before painting.
  • The lagging pieces of the coating are carefully trimmed to the places of snug fit.
  • If necessary, the edge of a non-torn, but slightly detached canvas is glued.
  • Found defects of the base (pits, cracks, chips) are putty and, after drying, are sanded and primed.
After the above steps, the surface should be flat, and the joints of the wallpaper linen and the flaws sealed should be invisible.

Paint preparation

Water emulsion is chosen by many not only because it is cheaper than the same acrylic. Its main advantage over other options is the ability to get any desired shade. Sold water-based white paint complete with toner - dry or liquid. It is added in the right amount to the base until the required tone is reached. There are several points to consider.

Wallpaper for gluing can have its own shade, which can affect the final color, especially if you choose soft pastel. If there are strict requirements for the tone of the design, initially you need to glue the white base.

It is desirable to paint the room at a time... Even if you do not have time to do this in a day, the paint with toner must be diluted immediately in a volume that is enough for the entire surface, and the next day, thoroughly mixed. The second time, you will not be able to accurately guess the required amount of dye, and the walls will be painted unevenly. To calculate how much paint is required, check its consumption on the can and put it on top, especially if you paint not with a roller, but with a brush - this method of application is less economical.

If the wallpaper was previously painted, you cannot take a color that is not compatible with the previous one, and the new shade should be slightly darker.

Paint preparation

The preparation of the paint itself is simple. However, if the room to be painted is large enough, a drill with a nozzle will be required to stir it, otherwise, due to the significant volume, it will not be possible to bring the tone to uniformity.

  • The white base is poured into the bucket.
  • Water is added little by little, with constant stirring. Its volume is indicated on the can, but it is approximate: the paint may have thickened a little during storage. The working consistency is like milk.
  • Color is added. It is better if it is in liquid form, then it can be gradually introduced directly into the common bucket. Dry must first be diluted with a small amount of base, and then poured into a general container.
  • The resulting shade is constantly checked in an inconspicuous area.
  • When you have achieved the desired color, proceed with coloring.

Painting technology

Each person painted something - at least a fence, at least once in a lifetime. Wallpaper painting is not much different from other surfaces. The general provisions are as follows.
  • First of all, the corner is painted over, since the roller will not reach there, you will have to act with a brush, and therefore there will be an excess of paint, which must be distributed along the walls nearby.
  • If staining is supposed to be in two layers, the first one is applied horizontally, with the roller entering the previous strip by 5-10 centimeters. If you are going to apply the paint three times, the first time the movements should be vertical. The bottom line is that the last coloring must certainly be from top to bottom.
  • The edge of the roller should not coincide with the seam of the wallpaper during the vertical passage.
  • The next layer is applied perpendicularly and only after the previous one has dried. Most manufacturers have 4 hours for this.
We remindthat when using a water emulsion drafts during drying are categorically contraindicated. By the way, the first, primer, layer can be applied without a color scheme, but then the final one will be a lighter shade than originally intended, so more dye needs to be added to it.

Designer delights

The use of water emulsion for painting wallpaper is interesting in that it provides an opportunity to get patterns or drawings on the walls. You can achieve what you want in several ways.
  • If textured wallpaper with bulges is glued, first they are painted over in one tone with a soft roller, which will apply paint to the depressions. Then a hard roller is taken, thanks to which the paint of a different color (for example, golden) will only fall on the mounds.
  • The drawing can be applied to any one part of the wall with a stencil. You can buy it in an interior store, you can make it yourself.
  • The same pattern can be made over the entire surface if you purchase a roller with a relief pattern. Then the second layer of paint will repeat the same element.
  • To create a sepia effect, use a round brush, which is not applied to the wall, but often touched it.
You can come up with your own ways of how to paint the wallpaper with water-based paint with different visual effects. For example, they get a very interesting look if the second layer is applied with a roller on which rags are randomly wound, or with the fragmentary use of tampons. Maybe you can come up with your own, original way, allowing you to paint as artistically as possible.

Knowing how to paint wallpaper for painting, as well as the correct embodiment of this idea will allow you to create with your own hands unusual designs and stylish interiors without significant financial investments. Despite the fact that wallpaper for painting is more expensive than usual, many people prefer to purchase them. And this choice is largely justified, because you can update the interior in a very short time by repainting the walls in one or two colors. Moreover, this can be done up to 8-10 times, which means that you can forget about re-gluing wallpaper for many years.

It should be noted right away that not all wallpapers can be painted. So, inexpensive paper canvases can simply get wet and lose their attractiveness. They can also bubble and come off. And no matter how much paint you put on them, the wallpaper will look unpresentable.

That is why, when choosing wallpaper for painting, it is better not to save money. It is worth giving preference to vinyl or non-woven options. Such wallpapers are distinguished by a relief surface that can be repainted many times.

Wallpaper intended for painting, even if you are satisfied with their original white color, must be painted. This will protect their surfaces and improve performance.

Glass wallpaper is a worthy alternative to the usual finishing materials, which can be easily painted in the desired colors. They look very beautiful, and the widest assortment will allow you to choose the right pattern.

How to paint wallpaper for painting

Paint selection

For coloring wallpaper with their own hands, experts do not recommend using oil paints. It is especially forbidden to use those compositions that are diluted with a solvent, since such substances can cause irreparable harm to wallpaper.

For paper and fiberglass options, it is better to choose latex paints, since they are not so aggressive. Also, paper canvases can be painted with water-based compositions.

For non-woven wallpaper, in addition to latex, you can take more affordable acrylic paints. And to improve the performance of the coating (to make it more resistant to moisture), varnish can be applied to their surface after painting. However, in this case, the wallpaper cannot be re-painted.

As for the texture, you can use both matte and glossy options... The first one is ideal to skillfully hide defects on the walls. With a multi-layer coating, you can smooth the textured surface.

Which roller to use

To achieve high-quality staining of the surface with your own hands, you should choose the right roller. It should perfectly absorb the paint, and at the same time it should not flow and splash.

There are two types of rollers to choose from:

  • with a small nozzle (up to 10 cm long);
  • with a long attachment (up to 25 cm).

With short nozzles you can paint hard to reach places... The latter allow you to apply a uniform layer with the most imperceptible transitions.

The roller sleeve should be made of fur with a small pile length. It perfectly absorbs paint and allows you to distribute it evenly, even if you only apply light pressure to the roller. It is better to pour the paint into the tray in order to moisten the roller well and wring it out. In this case, excess paint should flow back into the container.

How to paint the wallpaper yourself

An important rule is that all paints and varnishes must be applied to a dry surface. If the wallpaper has been pasted recently, be sure to wait until it dries completely. Only then can you start painting. Here a quite natural question may arise: "How long do you need to wait after gluing the canvases?" On average, the interval between gluing and painting is about 24 hours.

Typically, paintable wallpaper is white. That is why you can choose any tone for coloring them. If you need to repaint dark wallpaper, you should first apply a neutral paint, and only after that the desired color.

There is nothing difficult in self-coloring the wallpaper, you just need to adhere to certain rules and follow the sequence of the process

The whole process of painting wallpaper with your own hands can be divided into certain stages:

  • Preparation of paint. If necessary, the coloring composition is diluted, brought to the desired consistency and mixed thoroughly. The prepared mixture should be homogeneous without any unnecessary inclusions.
  • With the help of masking tape, all joints of the walls with the floor and ceiling are glued. Also, adhesive tape is glued to baseboards and other elements that must be protected from paint.
  • Surface painting. This must be done in one go, because if the work is stopped and then continued, very noticeable joints will appear on the walls. First, using a brush, paint over the joints and corners, and then roll the walls with a roller. In this case, you need to move from the ceiling to the floor (that is, from top to bottom), leaving no gaps, even if the painting will be done in several layers. This method will allow you to apply the paint without streaks.
  • After the first coat has completely dried, the next coat of paint can be applied. Usually two coats are sufficient to achieve the desired result.

This video will help you thoroughly understand the nuances of wallpaper painting:

Painting wallpaper with water-based paint requires first giving it the desired shade. This can be done in two ways:

Painting wallpaper for painting in two or more colors

If you want to create an original interior, you can paint the wallpaper in two colors. In this case, you can combine both close shades (for example, pastel beige and pink or gray and blue) and contrasting (usually a combination of light colors with bright ones). Also popular is the gradient coloring of the wallpaper, which creates a smooth transition between similar shades.

Borders, moldings, wallpaper tapes and other dividers can be used to trim the borders between flowers.

Coloring options

Before choosing the most preferred way of painting wallpaper in two or more colors, you should decide what effect you want to achieve. The thing is that classic style provides clear boundaries between the selected shades, while creative interiors can be created using arbitrary colors.

Let's consider the most popular options for using paints on wallpaper:

Wallpaper for painting gives complete freedom of creativity. They allow the most daring ones to come true design ideas... In this case, all actions can be done by hand and make your interior truly unique.

How and how to paint wallpaper for painting? We have to get acquainted with the key features of the dyes used, the varieties of the wallpaper themselves, the technology for applying paint and the tools used for this. So, let's go.

Wallpaper selection

Paper

Remember the thin paper wallpaper that was pasted over the children's room in your parents' apartment?

Don't assume that squeezing the roller against the wall will improve the paint better. You will leave traces and drain the liquid. Just slide the tool onto the wall and do it yourself. If you are using multiple paints of the same color, try mixing two cans of paint when you finish the first. This will eliminate small color differences that may exist between the boat and the other, and the wall will be completely uniform.

Once you dry the last coat of paint, you let it dry and you can remove the artist's tape. Remove the artist's tape while the wall is still wet, because otherwise the paint will harden and dry on the tape. If this happens, the way to remove it without peeling off the paint piece is to moisten it with turpentine or some other solvent.

So, paper wallpaper for painting has nothing to do with them, except for the raw material used in the production of cellulose.

Before us is a completely different material.

  • The paper is double. The back surface is smooth; embossing, which makes the surface embossed, is present only on the front side.
  • Due to its solid thickness, the material is quite durable.
  • Water-resistant impregnation of the front surface allows the coating to be repainted several times.

Helpful: Don't overestimate its water resistance. It cannot make paper a washable material by itself.

However, the work is completed. Now you can screw the caps back on and hang whatever you have on the walls. If you apply the bath, wait 3 days before using it again so that the moisture in the shower does not interfere with the drying of the walls. Before storing paint, clean the boat hoops to prevent dry paint from getting stuck, making it difficult to reuse.

  • If paint spills, wipe it off with a damp cloth and soap until it cools.
  • Once dry, you should scratch and sand.
Now you will love a room with an updated look in a simple and economical way.

The main advantage of the material is its low price. Disadvantages - limited resistance to high humidity and wear.

Non-woven

Its properties are somewhere between paper and polymers; in fact, both are part of it. The material is suitable exclusively for dry rooms with low traffic.

Vinyl

Vinyl wall-paper for painting is made of foamed plasticized polyvinyl chloride; the raw materials make them resistant to high humidity, and the porous structure provides excellent adhesion to paint. The material, however, cannot boast of durability: in places of constant contact with clothes, it will quickly wipe out.

Try to wash your dishes well with warm water and soapy or oily essence. Use a comb to dry hair from the brush, shake and hang up the tools so that the water disappears. Fiberglass

Glass fiber is the most durable solution, resistant to any adverse factors. Resistant to abrasion, water and corrosive detergents - beyond praise. The only complaint about them is some limited choice of textures arising from the production technology of woven material.

Wallpaper Secrets as an Expert

And doing it as an expert is easier than it might seem. It's easier if you choose vinyl or vinyl paper with a woven nonwoven backing. They are thicker and more stable and only need to be queued up on paper or a wall. But if you don't want to touch the wall, you can decant with paper with relief, which better hides the bumps. To find out how much paper to cut. Measure the wall and leave 5 cm above and below. Glue the paper down and then cut with a cutter. If the paper has drawings. After gluing the first sheet, place the roll next to it to see how it fits together. This way you spend less paper. To avoid bubbles. Place the paper from top to bottom and smooth with a brush and then a rag. This prevents him from taking off. To do this, glue the sides and ends together. To avoid noticing the connections, connect the sheets without assembling and checking using a roller. If you are wrong, pick them up before the tail is dry. And for possible repair... It is advisable to keep a spare sheet with the motive of the complete drawing. That way, if there is a break in the paper, you can repair it with the right side of the print where the damage is.

  • The type of paper.
  • You can cover them with putty and sanding.
  • And so the paper then grips better, gives a primer.

Paint selection

What properties should paint have?

  • Harmlessness... We are talking about living quarters after all.
  • Fast drying... We do not want to wait for weeks for the completion of the repair.
  • Moderate solids content with maximum hiding power... The dye layer should paint the surface of the walls, and not completely hide their texture.

Don't forget: it is assumed that the wallpaper will be repainted several times. 10-15 thick layers of viscous dye will hardly leave the volumetric pattern visible.

Brush, roller and cloth to iron. And a cutter and a ruler or tape to cut the excess. Spread them out a little with a spatula and fill them with mastic or cover them with fiberglass strips. Seals without putty. Remove the rest, clean the surface and refill with the seal. Remove everything with your finger or a spatula. Contamination-free paint. To be able to drain the brush without risk of staining the floor, place the paint container on a plate or cardboard tray. Protect frames and windows from doors and windows. Before painting, apply liquid soap with a brush near the frames and on the glass joints. Wait for it to dry and blush calm. But if you want more protection, use thick tape to protect them.

  • Blur before painting.
  • Prepare the mixture hot water and vinegar in equal parts and rinse the roll with it.
  • Pass it on the wall like you painted.
  • The strips will come out completely.
  • Cracks in ceilings and walls.
To reduce paint odor, drop in a few drops of vanilla and remove.

All requirements are met by water-dispersion dyes based on acrylic resins. Their consumer properties can be quite different depending on some specific additives.

Probably, information about some of them can be useful.

  • The addition of latex gives the paint increased adhesion to difficult surfaces and water resistance. Acrylic latex compounds are ideal for non-woven fabrics.
  • Acrylic-silicone dyes also perfectly tolerate prolonged contact with water and are not afraid of wet abrasion. They can be safely used on vinyl and fiberglass wallpaper in bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Finally, they are able to reliably protect any coating (even paper) from contact with water. Above we mentioned that moisture-resistant impregnation does not allow washing paper wallpaper; however, after painting with rubber paint, removing splashes and minor contamination is no longer a problem. The only limitation concerns the limited mechanical strength of the paper: it is still not worth rubbing the wallpaper with a stiff brush.

When you go to paint, remember that it is advisable to start and finish cans of paint always in the corners. Sometimes there can be a slight change in the pace from one boat to another and it will hardly be noticed. You will prevent blows from slowing down. If you paint the walls with white. Add a good amount of laundry bleach before adding. The wall will blind you. White enamel. To prevent white cabinets and doors from turning yellow, which often happens in the kitchen, a few drops of blue enamel are added to the synthetic enamel. If you have paint. Pour turpentine into the boat before closing it. It will be well preserved and you won't be surprised if you find it dry when you return to it.

  • Paint the corners.
  • Draw the ceiling well.
  • When you paint it, paint in the direction of the window.
This is the question we all ask ourselves when it comes to painting.

Nuance: the paint will protect the surface from direct contact with water; however, it is vapor permeable and does not allow high humidity to affect the condition of the adhesive and substrate. You shouldn't glue paper in the bathroom.

All water-based dyes are custom-tinted with water-soluble pigments.

Painting

Do-it-yourself wallpaper painting begins with the preparation of the dye.

You may like wallpapers, patterns and repeating patterns, but for some reason you don't want or can't decorate the walls with wallpaper. Nothing happens, no problem, with painting we can also imitate wall decoration as if it were wallpaper. If you have no idea how this happens, because you have not seen these ideas that we have prepared.

Basically, most wallpapers have a repeating pattern. Pick one like the picture above, a cactus for example, and repeat it on the wall until you cover it whole. If you can draw well, look at the wonder of drawings that you can print on the wall.

  1. The paint is tinted by adding one or more pigments and mixed thoroughly. The tool is a construction mixer or drill with an appropriate attachment.

You need to tint the entire volume of paint intended for repair; moreover, it is better to leave a small margin for future wall repairs.

The fact is that the slightest change in the percentage of pigments will lead to a noticeable change in shade; you cannot get the same color again.

Obviously, with a little body tape and a previous sketch in pencil or on the computer, the painting can decorate the wall as if it had wallpaper, as we can see in the image above or below. A good way to split a baseboard into a wall is paint. Random geometric patterns like some wallpapers, we can also make them on the wall with body tape and different colors of paint.

Or just take a brush, rinse it with paint and paint with your free hand. If you paint a wall with slate paint, you can create a beautiful mural or accent wall as if it were wallpaper. Triangles, one on top of the other to complete one row, and then another to complete the wall.

  1. After it is diluted with water to the consistency of fat milk and again thoroughly mixed. As we remember, excess viscosity will lead to a clogged wallpaper texture.

Is wall preparation required? Only if a considerable time has passed since pasting. Dust will interfere with the adhesion of the paint to the surface; it is removed with an ordinary vacuum cleaner with a nozzle covered with masking tape (so as not to damage the texture).

How to paint paper wallpaper?

See what an idea to paint the wall as if it has wallpaper. The diagonal stripes are made of paints. A very subtle way to add color to any room. Many wallpapers have letter designs. It is not necessary, as we see in the image above, on paper with paper having letters in its design, we can do this with a marker.

If you like this idea, don't miss these. Another great idea is to decorate the wall as if it had wallpaper. Triangles different colors... This other way to decorate a wall is something more complicated, but you can always get professional help if you want to do something relatively difficult and you hesitate.

How to paint? Roller with medium pile. In addition to him, you will need a paint tray: to obtain a uniform color, the roller is pre-rolled, and in no case on the walls.

The painting itself is quite standard: the dye is applied in two or three layers; in this case, each layer is superimposed perpendicular to the previous one. The last layer should, if possible, lie parallel to the direction of incidence of the light. Each wall is painted in one step: otherwise, the borders of the dried out areas will be noticeable.

Problems you must solve before applying paint to wallpaper

Do you have wallpaper on your wall for many years? Have you decided it's time to paint on wallpaper because it no longer goes with your style, but you don't know how to do it? It is important that the area is in good condition before painting on wallpaper. If you don't notice this, you may end up with a rather ugly or erroneous result. These are the most common problems, please note.

You will recognize him by small air pumpsthat you notice when you wind your fingers. Before doing anything else, dampen the paper and the pin removes the air inside. Then, gently run the palm of your hand to flatten this section. Lift up sections of paper, apply some glue and let dry. To make sure the glue is dry and that the paint won't be damaged, let it pass 24 hours before painting.

Useful little things

  • Non-woven and vinyl on a non-woven backing wallpaper can be painted on the back before gluing. In this case, their texture will be distinguished by a lower color intensity.
  • One more simple instruction will help to highlight the texture of the picture with color. Having painted the walls over the entire area, roll them without pressing with a foam roller with paint of a different color.
  • To obtain a multi-colored strip or geometric pattern, masking tape is used. They glue the areas that are to be covered with a different color; after the main area of the wallpaper is painted and dried, the already painted surface is protected from paint with adhesive tape. The pattern is applied with a brush or a narrow foam roller.

Dirty wallpaper with a lot of sand, dust and dirt

Wallpaper painting that has been ripped can leave scattered sections that highlight the problem. To avoid this, use sandpaper to remove unevenness. While this seems inconsequential, the difference in completion is huge. It is believed that paper cannot be easily cleaned, but it is not. To avoid uneven results, take a damp sponge and clean the surface.

Buy sealant and paint

It is always recommended to use a sealant before applying paint. This will prevent you from noticing the motifs of the paper you are covering. Calculate the amount of paint required for full coverage. If you don't want to hire a professional artist, make sure you rate the surface well and ask the paint store for the correct amount.

Conclusion

Paintable wallpaper is a great way to create unique interior in a relatively short period of time. But in the pursuit of beauty, it should be remembered that ordinary paint is not suitable for this type of work, because, as you know, it releases substances that are harmful to health into the air we breathe.

Prepare the surface for wallpaper painting

It is advisable to buy enough paint for two coats. Note that paper will absorb slightly more than a regular wall. Within the surface to be painted, you must put tape. The paint should be applied by brush and in areas where it does not reach the roller, such as corners. IN small spacessuch as the corners of current switches, you need a small thin brush or paintbrush.

Let the first coat dry completely and check at the same time that the paper does not seep through the ink. When the first coat is dry, you can apply the second to see the area is covered as you wish. In most cases, two coats of paint are sufficient. If the result is not yet what you expect, apply a third layer.

Therefore, having decided to make a repair, you should first determine what paint to paint the wallpaper.

Choosing paint

The dye should be selected taking into account a number of properties, the main of which are protective and decorative functions. For each surface there is a special one, which is characterized by a special chemical composition.

When deciding what paint to paint the wallpaper, you need to consider the following functions:

  1. Resistance to mechanical stress, which will affect the durability of the coating.
  2. Resistant to household chemicals.
  3. Environmental friendliness.
  4. Fast drying.
  5. Resistant to sunlight.
  6. Opacity, which consists in the ability to qualitatively overlap another color.

Considering the above characteristics, we can conclude that the best choice for such work is water-based paint.

It is great for interiors and there are several obvious reasons for this:

  1. Absolute safety and environmental friendliness. It can even be used in children's rooms, since it does not contain and does not emit any harmful compounds into the air.
  2. Very fast drying process. Within an hour, your walls will be completely ready for further use.
  3. Water-dispersible formulations do not emit any odor. Thus, neither during the repair process, nor after its completion, you will not experience discomfort from an unpleasant odor.

There are several types of such paints:

  1. Acrylic is the most versatile option, perfect for all types of surfaces, including wallpaper. The surface does not tarnish even with constant exposure to the sun and is perfectly washable. However, this type is distinguished by the highest price, therefore, before thinking about its application, calculate how much such a repair will cost you.
  2. Sticky - afraid of moisture, therefore it is not very well washed.
  3. Latex - most often used for working with glass fiber and textured surfaces. Very water resistant, and therefore most experts consider the most a good option for painting wallpaper.

Advice!
In order not to be mistaken in your choice, be sure to check the product label.
An excellent choice for wallpaper is a water-dispersion composition, which is marked with the letters VD.

Choice of paint for determining the texture of the coating

Acrylic paints are:

  1. Glossy. It is rarely used to decorate living rooms. They are an excellent choice for dark rooms.
  2. Semi-glossy. These coatings are very easy to clean and are highly reflective. Ideal for kids room, bathroom, kitchen. The formulations are applied to an exceptionally smooth surface. Otherwise, all defects and imperfections of the coating will be emphasized.
  3. Matte. An excellent choice for large, bright rooms and halls.
  4. Semi-matte. Used in bedrooms, adding a little shine to the interior.
  5. Satin. They are characterized by a smooth structure and wear resistance, and therefore are suitable for any premises.

How to paint wallpaper

The instructions for applying paint with your own hands are quite simple, so you do not need a lot of experience or any skills.

The work is carried out according to the following rules:

  1. Finishing can be done only a day after wallpapering the walls.
  2. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before starting work... Only in this case the layer will be smooth and beautiful.
  3. If the room is covered with embossed wallpaper, the paint should be applied in two stages.: First we apply the first layer, and after it is completely dry - the second.
  4. All work with water-based paint should be carried out using a pile of medium length... This will allow you to achieve an even distribution of the coloring matter over the entire surface, without leaving lumps or streaks.

Note!
It is not advisable to use a foam roller in the work, since here it will not allow you to apply an even and smooth layer.

What wallpaper can be painted

Today you can buy several types of paintable wallpaper. If desired, you can even paint colored wallpaper, but for this, the paint must have sufficient covering power in order to mask the previous color.

Consider which wallpaper can be safely used for painting, and which is still not desirable:

  1. Paper. If we are talking about wallpaper specially designed for painting, then you have nothing to fear. Such rolls are usually embossed and consist of several layers. In this case, the first of them is necessarily covered with a special water-repellent composition, therefore the layer lays down very well. In addition, they are environmentally friendly and completely safe for human health, and their cost is generally not high.

The only drawback of such wallpaper is that scuffs can form on them over time.

  1. Vinyl - they are dense and elastic, they do not fade and are easy to wash. Experts do not recommend using them in rooms where air exchange is difficult, since the walls need to breathe.
  1. Liquid - creates a perfect surface: smooth and even. A significant disadvantage is the fear of dampness. They can only be painted special composition... If, for example, you use a spray can, then such wallpaper will simply absorb the color, so you may need a large amount of paint.

Conclusion

Wanting to make their interior original, many "come" to the option of painting wallpaper. This decision can be very successful if you approach the matter responsibly. Show your imagination by combining, for example, several compatible colors. To learn more, watch the video in this article.

By the way, if you are going to use oil paint, the surfaces cannot be pasted over with non-woven - it is destroyed by the thinners included in it.

For example, they acquire a very interesting look if the second layer is applied with a roller, on which rags are randomly wound, or with the fragmentary use of tampons. Perhaps you will come up with your own, original way that allows you to paint as artistically as possible.

Types of paintable wallpaper

Despite the fact that water-based compositions can be used to paint any wall and ceiling coverings, the optimal effect will be achieved on the following types of wallpaper:

  • paper (embossed and coarse fiber);
  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • fiberglass.

Let's take a closer look at what these materials are:

  • Paper wallpaper are made on the basis of fibrous waste paper, the structure of which is impregnated with special water-repellent compounds. As a result, the paint evenly covers the paper base, rather than being absorbed by individual areas.

The main advantage of special paper wallpaper is the ability to paint up to 15 colors.

In accordance with the surface texture, such wallpapers are structural (embossed) or coarse-fiber. Structural modifications are made from several layers of paper, while coarse fiber finishes are made with sawdust as a filler.

  • Vinyl wallpapers - These are multi-layer wallpaper coverings with a paper or non-woven backing. The top layer is made of thin but abrasion resistant foamed vinyl.

Such coatings can be produced with a smooth surface or with a pronounced relief structure. Modifications made for subsequent painting are easily recognizable by the white or light gray design of the front side.

The use of such wallpaper allows you to paint the walls not only with an even layer, but also apply certain decorative effects, both with the use of improvised means, and with special structural rollers.

  • Non-woven wallpaper Are structured coatings that imitate relief plaster. The advantage of such materials is the possibility of re-painting without losing the original strength of the coating. Despite the guaranteed high quality of coloring, compatriots rarely buy fully non-woven wallpaper, which is largely due to their high cost.
  • Fiberglass (fiberglass) wallpaper made from fibers produced during the processing of quartz sand, dolomite, soda and lime. Due to the use of such fibers, the finished wallpaper is characterized by high strength and at the same time increased elasticity. Such coatings are made with both smooth and corrugated surfaces.

Water based paints

So, can liquid wallpaper be painted with water-based paint? Of course, you can, but before doing this, consider the features of the coloring composition.

Water-based paint is an emulsion made using fine polymer particles, pigments and water as a solvent.

For the first time, such compositions began to be produced in the middle of the last century, and since then they have become more and more popular and in demand. However, the demand for these compositions is not surprising, since the water emulsion, in comparison with other paintwork materials, is distinguished by affordable price, the possibility of coloring with pigments in the required color and the durability of the result.

Water-based paints, in accordance with the type of binding component, differ in the degree of hiding power and resistance to abrasion.

Important: Compositions based on PVA and based on polyacrylates are widely available for sale.
Both types of paint are not bad, but PVA-based compositions are less resistant to excess moisture, therefore, if the room is damp, it is advisable to use acrylic paint.

Tools

Before painting the wallpaper on the ceiling with water-based paint, you must prepare the appropriate tool.

For the high-quality execution of the planned work, we need the following tools and devices:

  • wide velor roller;
  • narrow velor roller;
  • roller for painting corners;
  • painting bath for the width of a large roller;
  • sprayer for working with water-based compositions (for processing vertical surfaces);
  • work clothes, gloves, goggles.

Staining technology

Returning to the question whether it is possible to paint paper wallpaper with water-based paint, we will answer - it is possible, if everything is done correctly.

The instructions for performing painting work on the walls are as follows:

  • We glue the abutment of the walls to the ceiling with masking tape so that the composition does not get on surfaces that are not planned to be painted.
  • Wipe the surface of the wallpaper with a slightly damp foam sponge without excessive pressure. Thus, we can remove the dust with our own hands.
  • Mix the composition in a bucket thoroughly for several minutes.
    We use an electric drill and a special nozzle for mixing. We mix the contents of the bucket at low speeds. If paint splashes, you can turn on the reverse.

  • Pour the mixed composition into a bath.
  • We dip the roller into the tray and remove the paint buildup.
  • Apply vertical stripes with a roller.
  • After one layer of paint has been applied, we wait a day for it to dry completely and inspect the surface for the presence of unpainted areas. If there are any, we paint a second time.

Important: It is possible to significantly accelerate the application of water-based compositions on vertical surfaces by using special spray nozzles.
Such devices allow you to cover a perfectly even layer of walls with a large area.

Wallpaper painting on the ceiling is carried out in the same way as on the walls, but there is a slight difference. We guide the strips with a roller in the direction of the light coming from the window. Compliance with this simple rule allows you to immediately see the real quality of the color. In addition, by laying the paint in the direction of the light, you can be sure that there will be no characteristic darkening at the joints of the stripes.

What wallpaper can be painted with water emulsion?

The choice of water-based paint for wallpaper is dictated primarily by its price. Latex or polyvinyl acetate-based mixtures are also suitable for paintable wallpaper, but are slightly more expensive. The water-based dye has long been known to the inhabitants of Russia, is familiar and relatively cheap. Other benefits include:

  • the possibility of tinting the white base in any shade;
  • resistance of the painted surface to fading and abrasion;
  • ease of care (can be wiped with a damp cloth to remove dirt);
  • environmental friendliness;
  • lack of a pungent odor when applied.

High-quality material has good hiding power. You can apply just 1 coat of water-based emulsion and get an excellent result when painting wallpaper. But for an ideal effect, paint the wall twice, drying the first coat within the time specified by the paint manufacturer.

Not all wallpapers are suitable for coloring. Typically, materials for painting have the appropriate marking and textured monochromatic surface. But even in this case, to work with water-based (acrylic) compositions, it is better to understand in advance what kind of wallpaper can be painted:

  1. Paper ones withstand the treatment with water emulsion quite satisfactorily. The paint covers their surface well, slightly impregnating the base. As a result, the painted walls retain their attractive appearance for a long time. Apply paint to dry wallpaper with a paint roller.
  2. Vinyl wallpaper for painting with water emulsion should be chosen on a non-woven basis. The coating is carried out in the same way - with a roller on a dry texture.
  3. Fiberglass varieties will also look ideal. This paintable wallpaper is capable of retaining water-based dye for a long time. Fiberglass can be repainted if you want to change the color scheme in the room. The number of stains is indicated on the package.

When painting relief varieties, the water emulsion must be applied in several layers.

How to prepare for work?

Before you paint the wallpaper with water-based paint, you need to prepare everything necessary materials... To work, you need the following:

  • paint roller (long pile);
  • velor roller (for embossed wallpaper);
  • flat brush, 6-7 cm wide;
  • ditch for the roller;
  • masking tape;
  • water-based paint (white base);
  • color.

You can tint the purchased white paint right in the store. In large firms there is a computer-assisted shade selection service. The specialist will calculate the amount of dye needed to obtain a suitable color. The information will be saved in the program memory: by the shade number it will be possible to order an additional volume of the same color if repair is required or the material is not enough.

If the wallpaper is already glued and repainted, then wipe the surface with a damp cloth before starting work. This will help remove dust and other contaminants that may stain the new coat or prevent paint from laying flat (grease). The cleaned surface must be dried within 1-2 hours, and then proceed to painting the walls.

How to paint different types of wallpaper?

Allow new wallpapers to dry well before painting. It usually takes 24-48 hours after sticking them on the walls. If the repair was carried out more than 2-3 days ago, then you can start painting at any time.

The biggest concern is the paper covering. But with careful roller work, even this fragile material will not suffer. When painting paper wallpaper, you can also use a non-contact method: using a paint sprayer.

The first stage is painting over the corners of the room, where the walls meet the ceiling or plinth. If it is possible to remove the plinth, sockets, decorative door slopes, then it is better to do this before painting the walls. But in old buildings, you will have to paste over the edges of these interior details with masking tape. This measure will protect the surfaces of the parts from the ingress of water-based paint, which is more difficult to wash off after drying.

You need to paint over difficult places with a soft paint brush, not trying to press hard on it. Walls near doorways, corners, rosettes and other protrusions should be painted over by hand to a width of about 5 cm. Without waiting for the paint to dry, proceed to the next step:

  1. Pour a little dye into a dish and roll it out over the ribbed surface to soak the pile well.
  2. Start painting in the middle of a small area in the upper corner of the wall. Move from the center to the edges, capturing part of the previously painted stripes.
  3. When the paint on the roller dries up, roll it several times over the water emulsion poured into the cuvette. Continue work in the specified sequence.

It is necessary to paint 1 wall in 1 step, preventing the paint from drying out along the edges of adjacent areas. When applying the emulsion to a new area, it is necessary to grasp with a roller 1-2 cm of the already painted surface. So the paint will lay in an even, continuous layer.

How to paint interlining and vinyl?

Non-woven wallpaper (with vinyl coated or without it) can be painted before gluing on the wall. Dyeing is done from the inside out. In this case, the paint will saturate the loose material, protruding on the front side.

This method of staining is good because the wallpaper can be wiped with a damp sponge without risking washing off the paint. The transparent vinyl layer on the surface will also protect the non-woven base. Vinyl-coated wallpaper is moisture resistant and can be used in the kitchen or bathroom.

The foam vinyl cover will prevent the wallpaper from being painted before application. Embossed trellises can be painted in the usual way using a long-nap roller. In this case, ink will fall into the depressions of the embossed pattern.

Fiberglass Wallpaper

They are best suited for coloring. To highlight the relief, coloring can be done in several layers:

  • apply 2 coats of base paint of the desired shade;
  • after drying the base, highlight the protruding parts of the pattern with a different color with a velor roller.

Shades for such coloring are chosen to taste. You can keep the pattern in a single color scheme, but contrasting shades look no less impressive.

Fiberglass wallpaper can be repainted up to 10 times. This makes repairs easy and economical. If you want to refresh the interior, you can very quickly cope with the task by repainting part of the surface or highlighting one wall.

You can even paint ordinary non-woven and thick paper wallpapers that are not intended for this. But on the vinyl film, the paint will hold worse, so when choosing, you should pay attention to the marking of the wallpaper.

When completing repairs, where wallpaper for painting is correctly glued to a well-prepared surface, it is important to bring the walls and ceiling to perfection. The overall impression of the design of a residential or office space will depend on the correspondence of the variety of wallpaper to the type of paint and the method of its application. But it is important not only to know what paint the wallpaper is painted with, but also to complete this stage in compliance with all the intricacies of the technology.

What is the difference between the base for painting and conventional roll materials?

The modern market offers a huge selection finishing materials for outdoor and interior decoration... The color and pattern of the rolls has not been decisive for a long time, since it can be varied by adding any pigment to the dye base. Paintable wallpaper is the easiest way to transform an interior, thanks to the repeated repainting of the same surface.

Many people are interested in how many times to paint the wallpaper for painting? It is difficult to give an answer without seeing the pasted surface. Glass fiber is the most durable - without losing texture, they can be repainted up to 20 times. This is especially true for large patterns and convex relief. Paper wallpapers for painting are not used for more than 4-5 colors, they are generally not intended for multiple color changes. But the main difference between paintable wallpaper is that it is specially designed for multiple surface painting.

Sometimes they try to paint dense vinyl wallpapersglued to the surface with the addition of PVA glue. However, this is a risky undertaking, even if it turns out well. Such experiments are possible only when you urgently need to paint over any defects or children's drawings on the wallpaper. If it doesn't work out well, you will have to remove the wallpaper and make a full repair. But there is no such risk if you immediately abandon the usual wallpaper in favor of roll materials for painting. Although their cost is higher than that of ordinary paper wallpaper, during the next repair it is not necessary to change the base.

Wallpaper for painting has a more noble look, but, given their durability, you should immediately decide for yourself which texture you like best:

  • smooth;
  • with a small pattern;
  • with a large pattern;
  • with a spectacular structure.

Tip: If you don't know which wallpaper to paint, how to glue and paint, you shouldn't give it up. Paper rolls will soon lose their relevance, because they will be replaced by more practical ones - for multiple dyeing.

The base has different technical characteristics, it is classified depending on the base material and the volumetric surface for painting the walls:

  • fiberglass;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • vinyl;
  • thick impregnated paper;
  • linkrusta (volumetric relief is applied with a special mixture based on wood flour, chalk and wax).

The roll base for painting will last at least 15 - 20 years, especially with careful care. It is advisable to make the first tone as light as possible, since the wallpaper, even after applying the coloring composition, shines a little. The wallpaper itself is light - colorless, white or translucent, but there is a colored base. It is better to choose a shade of paint a shade darker than the base.

It is not recommended to wash ordinary wallpaper. If you are interested in whether it is possible to paint the wallpaper not for painting, then experts advise you to do it carefully, only rolls with a protective coating. The advantage of the base for painting is that it can be washed and repainted, which is especially important in the nursery and on surfaces that are often dirty. Not any paint is suitable for this, but only a special base for painting wallpaper. Non-woven fabric cannot be painted with heavy paint or based on aggressive solvents - it will ruin the volumetric pattern.

Attention: Wallpaper for painting can also be made multi-colored, for this, vinyl rolls are impregnated with one color from the inside, and after pasting the volumetric drawing is painted over with a sponge. But with this method it is better not to experiment on walls without prior experience.

How to calculate paint consumption for wallpaper?

In order to paint wallpaper without fear that the paint may not be enough, the correct consumption is important, which is calculated based on:

  • the total area of the painted surface;
  • paint consumption per 1 sq. m .;
  • the ability of the substrate to absorb paint.

The area to be painted is the sum of all the perimeters of the walls plus the ceiling, if it is supposed to be painted as well. The perimeter is the length multiplied by the width, the resulting value is the area of the painted surfaces. But from these indicators, the dimensions of window and door openings are subtracted, before painting the wallpaper for painting, a little margin is added for an unforeseen event - overspending, paint is strongly absorbed, etc.

Paint consumption per 1 sq.m. indicated in the manufacturer's instructions or on the packaging. The same type of paint will differ from different manufacturers in consistency (density), respectively, it will be absorbed and consumed in different ways. Standard consumption does not exceed 180 g / m2 in 1 layer and up to 250 g / m2. in 2 layers. At the same time, each material absorbs paint in its own way - paper and non-woven fabric absorb it much more than fiberglass or vinyl.

Look at the units of measurement, as they indicate 1 kg / m2. and 1 ml / sq.m. The standard density of paint for wallpaper weighs about 1.5 kg, that is, one and a half glad heavier than 1 liter of water. If the wallpaper has already been glued on, but the paint has not yet been purchased, it is not necessary to rush with this - you can not paint the wallpaper for painting for a while, nothing will happen to them. But painting is also an additional protection of the surface from dirt.

How to choose the right paint and prepare for painting?

When choosing and buying paints for wallpaper, various factors are taken into account, including the base material and the functionality of the room.

Each type of base assumes its own type of paint:

  • for paper rolls - water-based;
  • for painting interlining - water-dispersion;
  • for fiberglass - acrylic or latex;
  • linkrusta is a liquid oil, acrylic and wax paste.

1. For washable surfaces (bathroom and kitchen), acrylic and latex paints are preferable. They form a film, "breathe" worse, but are not afraid of exposure to steam and gentle cleaning.

2. In open spaces and in sunlight, use latex paints that do not fade in direct light.

3. Each paint has its own coefficient of light reflectance:

  • matte;
  • glossy;
  • satin;
  • semi-matt.

4. Moderate gloss satin paint is an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms or bathrooms, and is the most durable.

5. Matte paint well hides defects in the ceiling and walls, copes well with excessive lighting.

6. Glossy paint glitters and enhances illumination when insufficient. Sometimes a sponge dipped in this paint is painted over the relief on a matte background - for a jacquard effect.

7. The easiest to apply paint - water-based, the most durable and versatile in use - acrylic. But you cannot use any type of paint on wet wallpaper, they must dry for 2-3 days.

8. Before painting the wallpaper for painting, it is worth trying the color intensity on a control sample, if the shade is too pale, add a pigment (color). The pigment concentration in each package must be the same, except for the special “gradient” coloring.

9. First of all, the ceiling is painted, then the open walls, then the secondary ones, behind the furniture. All pieces of furniture must be removed, the floor must be covered with newspapers, and other open surfaces must be covered with foil and masking tape.

10. A can of paint dries quickly, so it is not recommended to open it to look in advance. Immediately before application, the packaging is opened, diluted, poured into a special cuvette and painted with a paint roller.

11. Water-based paint has a white color, but the pigment is of any shade, but diluted it looks lighter than after drying on the wall.

How to choose a roller and other paint tools?

A paint roller is the most convenient tool for painting, since even a beginner can dip into a ditch with ready paint and roll it along the surface of the walls. But there are different types of tools, for example:

  • with long pile;
  • velor roller;
  • with short pile.
  • foam roller;
  • fur roller.

Each of them gives its own effect when dyed. With a short-pile nozzle, it is easy to roll only a relief pattern, and a long one will deeply color the entire texture. The foam surface gives unpainted bubbles if you lightly touch the walls without relief. Replaceable nozzles on the roller are well rinsed and checked, and the pile, which may remain on the surface, does not climb.

Paint brushes are used in hard-to-reach places where it is impossible to get perfect painting with a roller - corners, crevices, gaps, places behind pipes and radiators.

Paint is poured into a special cuvette so that the roller is wetted evenly and without excess. But it is better to stir the paint in a separate container, such as a plastic bucket, and then add it to the cuvette. Be sure to observe the proportion in the ratio of water and color, for example 10% by volume. The diluted paint is better absorbed by the roller and spreads more evenly.

Tip: If you have any difficulties in choosing a tool, you do not know which roller to paint the wallpaper for painting, check with a consultant in a building materials store.

Features of painting non-woven wallpaper

Rolled painting non-woven wallpaper (wallpaper) is an excellent base for painted ceilings and walls, therefore, it does not cause difficulties with how to paint non-woven wallpaper for painting. The smooth bottom side is glued to the walls, and the top embossed is painted. This base mimics more expensive surfaces and looks great on the wall without staining.

If it is planned to clean painted wallpaper, experts recommend using only paint with protective compound based on latex. It is best to paint over the wallpaper in 2 layers with a roller with a fur nozzle, and use a brush for difficult places. It is not recommended to roll a roller in one place for a long time and soak the wallpaper to excess.

Features of painting paper wallpaper

Thick two-layer paper wallpaper with a special impregnation is the cheapest base for painting, looks good on the ceiling. Due to the fact that paper is afraid of water, the question arises - how to properly paint wallpaper for painting? Any specialized paint is suitable, but it is also not worth soaking to an excess - one uniform standing is quite enough.

The second layer is possible if the first is applied with streaks or bald spots. It is highly undesirable to leave glue on paper wallpaper, which could show through between the seams of the panels - this reduces the quality of work.

Features of painting fiberglass

Glass fiber is the most durable paintable layer, since it consists of fiberglass based on quartz sand. Popular textures - "herringbone", "path", "cobweb", etc. Suitable for repeated repainting, the most resistant base that hides all defects. The paint is not absorbed, but it sinks deeply between the fibers of the wallpaper. Glass fiber is the same glass wool, which is unpleasant for the skin, therefore it is imperative to work in protective clothing.

Fiberglass suggests a primer before painting, but be sure to read the instructions. Acrylic or latex paint is a great choice for this base. Usually applied in 2 layers, but the second is possible only after the first has dried.

Features of painting vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper with paper or non-woven backing gives a rich layered texture. The choice of paint is strictly in accordance with the instructions.

Before painting, a primer and acrylic paint for wallpaper is assumed, which is applied with a long-nap roller and a paint brush. After a slight drying, a second layer is immediately applied, including a decorative one - for a relief surface. Use a minimum amount of paint.

See how to paint wallpaper for painting - video at the end of the article.

Most often, when painting wallpaper, the following questions arise:

  • How to paint the wallpaper for painting?

This factor depends on the type of wallpaper. So for paper wallpaper water-dispersion paint is suitable, for non-woven and vinyl - water emulsion, for glass wallpaper - acrylic paint and latex paint compositions.

  • How to paint wallpaper with water-based paint?

This is not an easy process. First, protect furniture and objects with a protective film to avoid contamination. To avoid damaging the skin, you need to use gloves, glasses and closed clothing. Uneven walls should be leveled with a primer or putty (in this case, the paint will need to be applied in three layers). Mix the paint carefully. It is necessary to start painting from the window, from the light source. It is easier to paint from the corners with a brush, then with a roller. Roller stripes should be vertical, and brush stripes should overlap (vertically and horizontally). The solution is washed off the walls with clean water.

  • Can wallpaper be pasted on a painted wall?

When it comes to gluing wallpaper on a painted wall, then, first of all, you need to talk about the risk. The consequence can be peeling of wallpaper, the appearance of bubbles and irregularities. But you can try. For the best effect, it is recommended to prime the walls. Any wallpaper, except vinyl, can be glued to the painted surface. You can also try sanding the painted surface to help the wallpaper stick better.

  • Can the wallpaper be painted?

You can paint vinyl and non-woven wallpaper. It is not advisable to paint paper wallpaper.

  • How to paint wallpaper on the ceiling?

If glass wallpaper is glued to the ceiling, then any paint is suitable, and for wallpaper on a non-woven basis, only water dispersion paint is suitable. It is also not recommended to paint the ceiling of living quarters with oil paint. De-energize the wiring before painting the ceiling to avoid short circuits and accidents. Ensure that there are no drafts, cover the floors and protect furniture. You need to use protective goggles, a hat and work tools: roller, brushes, ladder, paint tray. The corners are painted with a brush, and the rest of the surface with a roller.

  • How to paint the wallpaper for painting a second time?

Wallpaper can be repainted for painting more than 5 times (up to 15, depending on the manufacturer and type of wallpaper). You can repaint in any color, regardless of the previous one. When repainting a darker color into a light one, you must first paint it with pure white paint, and then apply the desired color.

Features of painting

All types of paintable wallpaper require adherence to certain rules and knowledge of secrets for the best results. In this case, the composition of the surface is first taken into account, since it is better to paint glass wallpaper with latex, and non-woven bases are better than water-based paint. You always need to make a test: first on a separate piece of canvas, then on a section of the canvas that will be covered with furniture.

It should be noted that the paint is diluted only to create the first primer layer (add 10% of the total water). However, this is not done for fiberglass, since it is better to paint the fiberglass in two dense layers. In this case, an interval of at least 12 hours is maintained. That is why the maximum number of layers can be applied to them compared to other materials.

In total, any type of paintable wallpaper withstands 5-10 new layers. Then they can start to lag behind the wall, and in order not to wait for this, they should be removed if the surface needs to be painted again. Then the wallpaper is re-purchased and glued to the walls according to standard rules. They can be painted only after complete drying, which lasts about 12 hours.

Final cover

Once the basecoat has dried, it's time for your creativity. Patterns or drawings can be applied to walls and ceilings. In addition, the surface can be coated with a colorless varnish. This is especially true in the nursery and bathroom, as well as in the kitchen. This coating is less prone to contamination. Moreover, it can be washed with an ordinary damp sponge.

The algorithm of work is the same as when painting with paint. The choice between glossy and matte varnish depends only on personal preference. However, it is worth considering that even a matte varnish will add a slight sheen to the surface.

  • Remove all oversized items from the room before starting work. Cover large furniture with plastic or old sheets.
  • The floor should also be covered with tape or newspapers.
  • Cover with masking tape the areas of the walls that do not need to be painted (baseboards, sockets, switches).
  • Wet the roller liberally and evenly. However, it should not drip.
  • The ideal color of wallpaper for painting is white or light shades.
  • Use a spray gun for a completely even paint job.
  • Non-woven wallpaper can be painted on both sides. The use of a snow-white putty will emphasize the depth of color.
  • Matte paint will help hide wall blemishes and traces of old wallpaper.
  • It is strictly forbidden to paint a surface that is not completely dry after gluing the wallpaper.
  • Using a brush and a roller in the work wears out the base, reducing the number of possible repainting up to 6-8 times. To achieve a 10-fold repainting without loss of quality, you need to use a spray gun.
  • Do not leave the wallpaper uncovered. The paint provides them with resistance to damage and durability.

Two sides of the coin

While this method of interior renovation has earned many compliments, there are two sides to any coin. Before making a decision, it is worth weighing the pros and cons.

The pros:

  • They allow you to embody any idea. If a suitable color is not available for sale, you can use the tinting service and create the desired one manually.
  • The painted surface can be easily cleaned from dirt using wet cleaning.
  • Defects that appear (spots, children's drawings) can be easily removed with a brush. You don't have to re-glue a piece of wallpaper, or even an entire wall.
  • Painting wallpaper is easier than re-gluing. In this case, non-woven wallpaper can be repainted up to 10 times.
  • It is easier to work with arches, corners and other non-standard shapes.

The cons:

  • For quality result you need to prepare the walls.
  • The ideal effect will be obtained only with the right choice of paint and tools.
  • Most paints absorb dust.
  • Paints protect against minor mechanical damage. But a serious blow will do them visible damage.

Original ideas for coloring wallpaper

Using paintable wallpaper gives you limitless room for experimentation. You can use one of the following techniques:

  • By applying horizontal or vertical stripes you can visually adjust the parameters of the room. To do this, draw the stripes using a regular pencil and ruler, and then paste over them with masking tape. Don't be afraid to step up to it in the process! The borders of the stripes will still be even if allowed to dry completely.
  • Before gluing the wallpaper, you can paint the very surface of the walls in a bright color. Then you get a noble muted matte shade.
  • Paint over the evenly embossed wallpaper, and then run it over the dry surface with a soft cloth. It will remove paint from the protruding parts, thus emphasizing the pattern.
  • New ideas for painting wallpaper can be highlighted from photos of finished interiors.

How to apply the first coat

In the process of staining, the most difficult moment for beginners who will do this business with their own hands is the application of the primary layer. The final result and the final appearance of the walls or ceiling depend on how well the first layer is applied.

But before considering the features of applying water-based paint with your own hands, it should be noted that the base for the paint must be special. For these purposes, the following paintable wallpaper is suitable:

  • vinyl;
  • non-woven;
  • glass wallpaper.

Some people are wondering “can liquid wallpaper be painted”. This question arose from the specificity that liquid wallpaper has. Once applied to the surface, the liquid wallpaper creates a tactile finish. But it will be lost if the liquid wallpaper gets stained. Therefore, if you do decide to paint liquid wallpaper, weigh the pros and cons. Experts recommend using not liquid wallpaper as a base for paint, but the aforementioned materials.

Usually, paint on a base such as wallpaper (special or liquid) is applied in several layers. The main thing here is to correctly apply the first layer, and the rest will already go down without problems. The technology of applying paint in several layers allows you to get certain patterns and designs on the ceiling or walls. Moreover, if you master this technology correctly, you can achieve an unusual result, even without being an artist.

To apply the first coat of paint, special preparation must be done. It involves gluing all the places where paint should not get into, with a special masking tape. In addition, on the ceiling or walls, the entire work surface must be cleaned of dust and dirt. For these purposes, use a damp cloth.

Also, before painting, you must purchase a water-based paint with a pigment. It is necessary to calculate the consumption of the coloring material per 1 m2 over the surface. This is necessary in order to immediately prepare the required volume of the mixture, and so that it has the same color. This is the only way to achieve a uniform shade over the entire surface of the ceiling and walls.

After the preparation has been completed, you can start applying the primary layer with your own hands. In this situation, the algorithm of the actions carried out is as follows:

  • First, a little dye should be applied to the wall or ceiling. This area should be the least visible. So you can visually evaluate the final result and the correctness of the selected proportions used to prepare the dye.
  • If you are satisfied with the result, paint the remaining areas on the ceiling or walls with a soft roller.
  • The first layer is applied in one direction, and all subsequent ones - in the other.

After that, when the first thin layer of paint has been applied to the prepared surface, it must be allowed time to dry completely.

Remember that after painting walls or ceilings with water-based paint, it will be quite problematic to stick wallpaper on them. Therefore, if an application is planned, the place of its application must be covered with masking tape before painting.

Drawings and decoration

After the first layer of paint has dried, you can start decorating the ceiling or walls by creating certain applications, ornaments and patterns on their surface.

This stage should be planned even before the start of the renovation and purchase of wallpaper. Indeed, today such a finish has an extensive range of products, differing in texture, patterns and other characteristics.

When creating drawings with other types of paint, you can use a hard roller and wallpaper with a pronounced relief. Thus, with your own hands, you can paint the wallpaper with water-based paint of a different color and get a beautiful and unusual pattern. In addition, to obtain certain artistic effects, you can use the following tools:

  • brushes of different sizes;
  • stencils;
  • cotton swabs.

Thanks to such tools, a person will be able to qualitatively create even a complex floral ornament with his own hands.

The decor and patterns are applied with dyes of other colors that contrast with the primary coat. It is desirable that the dye chosen in this situation has certain properties (for example, moisture resistance, mechanical resistance, etc.). For these purposes, there are a wide variety of special artistic compositions. But their cost is quite high. Therefore, usually, they are used by professionals who have the necessary skills and knowledge.

If the paint does not have additional properties, after it dries, the surface of the walls and ceiling can be varnished for a longer service life.

The key to the successful application of decor with water-based paint is correctly selected materials with compatible components. Using such materials, even a beginner can achieve excellent results and high quality of the work done by his own hands.

Which paint to choose

When choosing paint for wallpaper, remember that it should be water-based or alkyd-based. At the same time, many people prefer water-based dyes. For example, non-woven fabrics are painted only with such dyes.

Before deciding on the final paint finish, paint over a small piece of trim and see how it looks. This is due to the fact that different compositions have different degrees of hiding power, which can lead to unequal application of the dye to the base. So you can choose the most optimal option for your finish.

There are several types of water-based paint, but they are all suitable for application to wallpaper.

Preparation of materials and surfaces

Some experts advise at the preparation stage to apply a primer to the canvases to ensure better distribution of paint over the surface of the finish and to prevent the formation of stains. Usually paint stains appear due to uneven impregnation of the surface of the finish. But in this situation, when using special wallpaper and water-based paint, the use of a primer is not a prerequisite... In addition, the finish itself already has high adhesion, which does not need to be increased additionally.

You also need to carry out the following manipulations:

  • de-energize the room to prevent short circuits and accidents;
  • the temperature regime of the room must meet the requirements of the dye application technology;
  • close all windows and doors to prevent the risk of drafts (this will allow the painted surfaces to dry evenly);
  • cover the floor, doors and windows with covering material.

In addition, you will need the following materials:

  • different types of rollers for applying the primary layer and patterns;
  • brushes;
  • tray;
  • masking tape;
  • ladder.

It will not be superfluous to use protective clothing (gloves, hats, glasses) in work.

Step-by-step process

Applying a water-based dye to a prepared wallpaper surface is no different from painting, for example, a fence. The main thing is to know and observe the following provisions:

  • First, paint the corners with a brush. In this case, it is necessary to evenly distribute the paint in the corner, avoiding its overabundance. To do this, it is distributed over the surface of the walls near the corner.
  • Lay down the first layer horizontally. In this case, the approach to the previous strip should be 5-10 cm. This method is applicable for two-layer painting.
  • With three-layer scrolling, the first layer is applied vertically. The last staining is done from top to bottom. The edge of the roller, with a vertical passage, should not coincide with the joint of the canvases.

As you can see, applying water-based paint with your own hands is a fairly simple process. The main thing in this situation is to adhere to the above provisions and the final result will be excellent.

Types of wallpaper for painting and their features

Wallpaper for painting, like a pure canvas of an artist, provides room for the embodiment of the most daring creative ideas. After painting, they can become an accent of the interior or successfully emphasize it with color and texture. In order for everything to work out as intended, it is important to choose the right foundation for the future masterpiece.

Wallpaper intended for painting is wider than usual and much longer; two or three rolls are enough for pasting an average room. Trade offers a choice for every demand. In order not to be mistaken, you need to take into account the main characteristics of the coating.

Manufacturing material

There are three types of paintable wallpaper:

  • paper;
  • non-woven;
  • fiberglass.

Paper ones consist of two layers impregnated with a moisture-repellent compound. They are inexpensive, easily glued, but short-lived and are inferior in density to other species. They also have lower abrasion resistance.

Non-woven fabric is resistant to stretching and tearing, does not wrinkle. The structure of the base is porous, air permeable, due to which the walls "breathe".A pattern is applied to the non-woven base with foamed vinyl, therefore they are also called vinyl.

Their density is higher, and this allows you to hide minor defects and irregularities in the walls - there is no need to carefully prepare the base before gluing. Such wallpapers are more expensive than paper ones, but they will last much longer without losing their properties.

Fiberglass is made from fiber similar to glass wool. The densest, most durable and durable look, but also the most expensive. They adhere well to the wall, creating the effect of a seamless canvas, hiding all defects in the base. Moisture and dust repellent, fire and heat resistant.

The peculiarities of the base must be taken into account depending on the purpose of the room and the microclimate in it.

  1. Due to its low strength, paper wallpaper should not be pasted over the walls in the nursery and hallway. But for the ceiling, they are quite suitable.
  2. In rooms with high humidity, it is also better to prefer non-woven or fiberglass.
  3. The strength and durability of the fiberglass base make it suitable even for office and public spaces.

Another important characteristic is texture.

Texture

Most often, wallpapers are made with a convex pattern on the front side, but there are also smooth ones. Considering that the coating will last at least 10 years, choose the appropriate texture:

  • smooth;
  • small drawing;
  • large pattern;
  • imitation of fabric;
  • geometric pattern;
  • floral ornament;
  • floral pattern.

Consider the area of the room, its purpose, interior and color of the future coating. So, for the ceiling, a smooth base is suitable, with a small pattern or imitation of stucco molding. A large pattern looks in a spacious room, imitation of fabric will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in the bedroom, a geometric pattern is appropriate in a study, hallway or office.

The walls can be left unpainted, this will not diminish the dignity of the coating. If the design implies color, approach the choice of paint responsibly.

Paint selection

For painting the wallpaper, paints are used:

  • water-based;
  • water-dispersive;
  • latex;
  • acrylic.

Each type of wallpaper requires its own paint:

  • paper is preferably painted with water-based;
  • non-woven is suitable for water-dispersion and water-based;
  • glass wallpaper is covered with latex and acrylic.

This division is arbitrary. It happens that non-woven ones are also coated with latex or acrylic paint, or fiberglass ones are painted with water-based paint. The choice also depends on the room.

  1. It is better to cover the walls in the bathroom and kitchen with latex or acrylic paint, it creates a waterproof film on the surface. This coating can be washed frequently without fear of damage.
  2. Latex paint is also preferred for areas open to the sun. It does not fade and retains its original color for a long time.
  3. Water-based paint is washed off with water, it is not recommended to wash such a coating.
  4. Dispersion water is not afraid, the surfaces covered with it can be washed.

Paints also differ in light reflectance:

  • glossy;
  • semi-matte;
  • matte;
  • satin.

Glossy reflects light best, creating a mirror-like effect. With its help, you can compensate for the lack of lighting and visually enlarge a small space.

Matte will make imperceptible imperfections and surface irregularities, clearly visible when painted with glossy paint. Dims too bright light, creates a feeling of softness and comfort.

Satin has a moderate sheen similar to silk or satin. It is commonly used in the kitchen and bathroom due to its durability.

You can buy ready-made paint of your favorite color or tint white, any building hypermarket provides this service. It is not difficult to do it yourself by purchasing tinting paste. But you need to prepare the paint immediately for the entire area of the room, otherwise the shade will be different.

Before buying required amount paint, get a small amount. By painting a wall or a piece of wallpaper, you can assess whether the color matches your expectations.

What is needed for painting

Before you start painting, prepare necessary tools and inventory.

  • paint rollers;
  • brushes;
  • a ditch or tray for paint;
  • masking tape;
  • stepladder;
  • rags to remove splashes.

Separately, it is worth talking about rollers - this is the main tool for painting. They differ in size and material of manufacture:

  • foam rubber;
  • velor (with short pile);
  • fur (with long and medium hair).

For simple painting, you need two rollers: small and large. It is convenient for the little ones to paint over the contour, the big ones do the main work.

To paint over textured wallpaper to the full depth of the pattern, you need a roller with a pile of 1.5-1.8 cm. A velor roller with a short nap will help to roll only the drawing. For this purpose, you can use foam rubber, but when stained, it leaves bubbles on the surface.

The brush is used to paint hard-to-reach areas where roller work is not possible. These are corners, slots, areas behind pipes. It also paints the outline at the ceiling and floor.

Scotch tape will be needed for protection ceiling skirting boards, sockets, pipes, window slopes etc. If the walls are painted in two or more colors, the border is marked with tape.

Paint is poured into a cuvette or tray. The ribbed surface helps to completely saturate the roller and remove excess paint from it.

Before pouring paint into the cuvette, put a bag on it. You do not have to wash the bath after work.

What you need to know before staining

  1. The paintable wallpaper must dry completely after application. This usually takes 2-3 days.
  2. The first time the coating is painted at least twice. The second layer is applied only after the first one has completely dried; the drying time is indicated on the paint package and is at least an hour.
  3. It is recommended to prime the fiberglass before painting, this information is indicated in the annotation. Non-woven and paper-based additional processing is not required.
  4. After pasting the non-woven wallpaper, remove all traces of glue, otherwise the paint will lie unevenly.
  5. Keep in mind that if you paint in several layers, the final color will be more saturated. Therefore, it is recommended to make the first layer a little lighter than the next.
  6. The paint should have the consistency of liquid sour cream. If necessary, dilute the paint with water or thinner and mix thoroughly until smooth.
  7. The optimum temperature for painting is 17-22 0 С.

Having prepared everything you need, get to work.

How to paint correctly: the order of work

  1. Free the room from bulky furniture. If this is not possible, cover it with foil.
  2. Cover with tape all elements that should not be painted.
  3. Cover the floor with protective material.
  4. Wear work clothes, a hat, and gloves so you don't have to wash off paint.
  5. To prevent lint from the new rollers on the surface, roll them over masking tape, the fibers will remain on the adhesive surface.
  6. Pour enough paint into the cuvette so that it fills the cavity but does not cover the corrugated surface.
  7. Start coloring from the top. Paint over a 5-7 cm wide contour around the perimeter of the ceiling. Use a stepladder.
  8. Roll a small roller in a ditch until it is completely saturated with paint. Remove excess on the corrugated surface.
  9. Paint the walls along the ceiling with the width of the roller.
  10. Change the roller to a large one, soak it with paint.
  11. Paint the walls from top to bottom in vertical strokes. Try to apply the paint evenly rather than saturate the base.
  12. Paint over hard-to-reach areas and up to the floor with a small roller and brush.
  13. After the paint has dried, apply a second coat.
  14. Remove splashes with a cloth.
  15. After use, rinse and dry rollers and brushes.

Wallpapering the ceiling has its own characteristics. The canvases are glued perpendicular to the line of the window so that the joints are not visible. For the same purpose, the ceiling is painted with straight lines along the canvases.

First, a brush is painted over the perimeter along the walls and corners, then the entire surface is rolled with a roller. They start painting indoors from the ceiling, and then move on to painting the walls.

Paper wallpapers do not like excess moisture. When painting, do not over-saturate them.

Wallpapers give unlimited scope for creative imagination. The possibilities of this coating do not end with simple staining.

Non-standard design of glued walls

Wallpaper for painting makes it possible to decorate the walls with several colors, apply a gradient coloring, apply a drawing, highlight texture and much more.

Highlighting the texture

The painting technique allows you to highlight the pattern on the wallpaper, to make it three-dimensional. This can be done in several ways:

Method 1

Suitable for non-woven wallpaper. As already mentioned, this type of base is also painted from the inside out. The paint will show through from the front and create the background for the raised pattern. The drawing is left white or painted with a velor roller with a short nap with a darker or lighter paint, but another shade can be used.

Method 2

Instead of the wrong side, sometimes the wall under the wallpaper is painted in a bright color. The base will tone down the color, soften it and highlight the textured pattern. As with the first method, the drawing is painted in a different shade or left white.

Method 3

Freshly painted wallpaper is lightly wiped with a damp cloth, removing paint from the drawing. You need to act carefully and without pressure. After the wallpaper dries, the pattern is painted in a different shade.

Multi-color dyeing

It is used to highlight one or more zones in a room, add bright accents, creating a conceived interior style or just for self-expression.

They combine colors according to certain rules:

  1. A combination of related colors (lilac with gray, mint with blue and others).
  2. Gradient coloring, that is, a combination of different shades of the same color from intense to pale or vice versa.
  3. Accentuating colors by combining contrasting shades (red with green).

To create a harmonious contrast, knowledge of coloristics does not hurt. If this is not your strong point, follow the rule: use only those combinations that occur in nature and do not combine more than two colors.

You can combine colors vertically, horizontally or diagonally - the choice depends on the goal. For zoning, a vertical combination is used; for the implementation of design ideas, horizontal or diagonal are often used.

Zoning

This technique is used to highlight several functional areas in one room. For this purpose, the combination saturated color with a softer shade - a gradient.

Whether one of the walls will be of a different color or all the walls are of different shades depends on your vision of the interior. This technique is used to highlight a recreation area or workplace in a common room. If there is a niche or ledge in the room, play with them with a different shade.

Horizontal or diagonal split

The classic version of the horizontal division of the wall: the lower third of one color, the upper two-thirds of the other. They can simply be divided by an even border, or decorated with moldings, borders, ornaments, mosaics, and what fantasy tells you.

But no one is forcing you to stick to this particular option. The border can also run in the middle of the wall, above, below or almost under the ceiling. This is your home and you decide how it will look.

It is not necessary to make the border straight. Make it wavy, blurred, broken or radius, dividing the wall diagonally, combine horizontal and vertical lines and stripes.

Borders of different colors are pasted over with tape to keep the lines clean. 10 minutes after staining, the tape is removed.

Drawing on wallpaper

It's not as difficult as it sounds. There are various techniques, some of which are available even for beginners.

Method 1 - using a special roller with a convex pattern

The roller is similar to the usual one, but consists of two parts: one textured, with a pattern, the second rubber.

Before applying a pattern to the walls, practice on an unnecessary piece of wallpaper so that the pattern does not smudge and its elements match. For novice artists, it is better to mark the wall into stripes, otherwise the drawing may move out, its rhythm will be broken.

Video: applying a pattern with a textured roller

Method 2 - using a stencil

You can buy a stencil ready-made or make it yourself. It is made of thin plastic, film or cardboard. The drawing is easy to find on the Internet and print on a printer.

  1. Using carbon paper or tracing paper, transfer the drawing to a blank for a stencil.
  2. Sharp stationery or construction knife cut out the pattern.
  3. Mark the wall so that the drawing lies flat.
  4. Attach the stencil to the wall with masking tape.
  5. Dip a foam sponge in the paint and squeeze out the excess.
  6. Apply the paint to the stencil with a gentle dabbing motion.
  7. Wait 10 minutes and transfer the stencil to another location.

This process is painstaking and slow, but the result is worth the effort. And the occupation is creative and exciting.

Method 3 - using stamps

Ready-made stamps are sold in stores, but you can also use improvised tools. A foam sponge, a bottle cork, a broom and even ... your hands will help you apply a unique pattern to the wallpaper. Practice on leftover wallpaper to be sure of the result.

The stamp is evenly coated with paint and pressed against the wall. The paint should not be too liquid, otherwise it will flow and the drawing will turn out to be smeared. Insufficient amount of paint will not leave a clear impression; excess will smudge the drawing.

With a foam sponge, you can create an abstract drawing using the tampon method. With wet movements, the sponge is pressed against the wall in a chaotic manner.

Method 4 - do it yourself painting

Circles, rings, squares, triangles - everyone can create the simplest wallpaper pattern. This way you can arrange panels or place elements across the entire wall area.

It's a little more difficult to paint a complete picture. In this case, a home projector will help. Bring the sheet with the image to the device, and simply circle the resulting projection on the wall with a pencil. If you have artistic talent, you can try drawing a picture yourself.

The elements of the picture are pasted over with tape along the contour, the drawing is painted with a sponge or brush. The main condition for success is accuracy.

Features of coloring different rooms

Fantasy is a fantasy, but it is desirable that the color and pattern of the wall covering correspond to the functional purpose of the room.

The living room is the face and the main hall of the house. Here you can give free rein to imagination and the flight of creative thought. Just keep in mind that the whole family gathers in this room and guests are received. It is important that everyone is comfortable in the created space.

The bedroom is hidden from prying eyes and belongs only to you. This is a resting place, which means that the interior should not disturb or annoy. It is better to decorate the walls in pastel colors with a discreet pattern.

The interior of the nursery implies bright and joyful colors. Images of fairy tale characters or cartoon characters are appropriate here.

Leave one area unpainted for growing artists to paint without fear of criticism. The art will then be easy to paint over, providing a blank canvas for new creations.

Coloring helps to change appearance decorative wall covering effortlessly. A person doing repairs with his own hands has a question about whether it is possible to paint paper wallpaper with water-based paint. It is allowed to paint such coatings, but a number of rules must be followed.

On the left - paper, on the right - vinyl white wallpaper with a paintable texture.

What wallpaper can be painted with water emulsion

Not every material is suitable for water-based paint. The corresponding wallpapers are specially marked and have a solid surface. You can apply water-based paint on the following materials:

  1. Paper... Withstand the application of the coloring agent. The composition fits well on the glued walls, evenly covering them and impregnating the base. The surfaces retain their aesthetic appearance for a long time. The paint is applied to a dry surface.
  2. Vinyl. It is recommended to choose a non-woven material. A roller is also used to apply the water-based composition.
  3. Glass cloth... Adheres well to most paints and varnishes. Fiberglass can be painted several times, adjusting the walls to the interior of the room.

When painting relief coatings, the coloring agent is applied in 3-4 layers.

How to prepare for work

Before starting the repair, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

When painting wallpaper with a roller, the tool roll-in tray is mandatory.
  • roller with velor nozzle with long pile;
  • foam cylinder for processing embossed wallpaper;
  • narrow flat brush;
  • tool rolling tray;
  • masking tape;
  • water-based coloring agent;
  • color.

The preparatory stage includes the following steps:

  1. Paint tinting... You can perform this action at the hardware store. Large firms offer the service of computerized shade selection. The program calculates the amount of color needed to create the selected color. The information is stored in the computer's memory, so there are no problems with ordering additional paint quantities.
  2. Clearing wallpaper... It is necessary to free the coating from dust and dirt that can worsen the applied decorative layer. The walls are wiped with a damp cloth. The paper surfaces are dried for 2-3 hours, after which painting begins.

How to paint different types of wallpaper

The paper covering is sensitive to moisture, so you need to work with it carefully. Ordinary wallpaper can be painted with a spray gun.

Before painting the wallpaper, remove the switches and the protruding socket housing.

The order of work includes the following stages:

  1. Removing protruding elements.Sockets, skirting boards and decorative items are removed. These parts can be sealed with masking tape to prevent paint spills.
  2. ABOUT processing of hard-to-reach places... The joints of the walls and ceiling are painted over with a narrow brush, without exerting effort. Areas near the outlets are treated with a 5 cm wide strip of paint.
  3. Painting flat surfaces... There is no need to prime the wallpaper before painting. The water-based composition is poured into a tray. A small amount of the product is captured with a roller. The instrument is rolled along the ribbed side of the cuvette. Processing starts from the upper corner of the wall, moving to the opposite side. Manipulations are performed in 1 run, preventing the paint from drying out in the adjacent areas. The stripes are overlapped. So the composition will lie in an even layer.
  4. Application of the second layer... Dry the surface for 6-8 hours. When re-painting, follow the same rules as for the initial processing of the wall.

How to paint interlining and vinyl

Non-woven materials are painted before gluing: the composition is applied with a roller or brush from the back side. Thus, the base is impregnated, which absorbs moisture better, which makes it easier to obtain the desired shade with the front side. Glue the canvas to the wall after the paint has dried. Vinyl surface protects the non-woven base.

Moisture-resistant materials are used to decorate walls in a bathroom or kitchen. Foam vinyl should not be painted before gluing.

The first layer is applied in a simple way, distributing the composition with a velor roller, hard-to-reach places are treated with a brush. This is how the paint penetrates into the embossing depressions.

A second coat may not be required, but if there are any shortcomings, you need to apply the composition again. This can be done only after the previous coating has dried.

Fiberglass Wallpaper

This base is best suited for painting. To form a relief, the coloring agent is applied several times. Distribute the base composition on the wall twice desired color... After the base has dried, the protruding parts of the embossing with a different shade are treated with a soft nozzle. The drawing can be made monochromatic, contrasting colors look no less attractive.

Fiberglass wallpaper can be decorated up to 10 times. This reduces the time and cost for repairs. Only part of the wall can be processed if necessary. With vinyl or acrylic coated paint adheres worse.
