In the construction of houses is popular modern way roof coverings using euro-slate - ondulin. This roofing material has many advantages, including ease of installation. It not only has an excellent price-quality ratio, but is also a versatile material, combining lightness and durability in use.

Benefits of roofing material

Ondulin soft roofing material is made by impregnating the cellulose base with bitumen with the addition of various fillers, resin for hardening, and dyes.

In this regard, he has the following undeniable advantages:

  • excellent waterproofing properties;
  • stable resistance to temperature shocks;
  • resistance to biological and chemical attack;
  • flexibility and elasticity;
  • minimum weight of roofing sheets.

If you decide to do the styling of ondulin with your own hands, you must also remember the shortcomings. Firstly, it is exposure to ultraviolet radiation and sheet burnout. Secondly, a sharp decline strength in conditions of extreme temperature parameters.

That is why you should not cover the roof in the heat, because stepping on the ondulin canvas, you can deform it.

Roof covering methods

Laying ondulin on the roof can be done using several options for the actions of the masters:

For initial coverage. This is possible if the roof structure can be used. But it is recommended to update the crate, make high-quality vapor barrier, cover the joints with mounting tape.

Ondulin is the most popular roofing material today.

After all, this material is distinguished by its high strength, durability, affordable cost and ease of installation.

The use of natural materials in the manufacture of ondulin allows the finished product to keep color perfectly.

The service life of ondulin is approximately 50 years.

The material is environmentally friendly.

He absolutely does not perceive moisture in any form.

Fungi and microorganisms do not grow in the material.

Ondulin perfectly insulates the room with sound and heat.

It weighs a little.

Differs in flexibility and elasticity, takes any form the installer needs.

This makes the ondulin installation process very simple.

Basic rules for roofing

There are very few of these rules.

But you should know them.

So:

  • when installing sheets, ondulin step only on the convex parts. It is forbidden to step into the furrows between the waves!
  • installation is started only when the air temperature outside is positive. Ideally, this is late spring - early summer.

    If this is not possible and the sheets of ondulin have to be laid at a low temperature, then the installation is performed with great care. It is strictly forbidden to install ondulin at temperatures below - 5 degrees.

    It is also undesirable to install ondulin on the roof at very high temperatures. Still, it includes bitumen;

  • special nails are used to fasten the sheets of ondulin to the sheathing boards. The installation technology provides that 20 nails will be used per sheet of material.

    This requirement is guaranteed, and if you hammer in fewer nails, then there is a high probability that under the influence of the wind the ondulin will collapse or be torn off the roof. It is for this reason that the installation process must be carried out under constant control.

    And if you do not lay ondulin with your own hands, but hired people, then you should make sure that they know about 20 nails per sheet and follow this rule;

  • the lathing to which the material is attached is made of a wooden bar with a section of 60 x 40 mm.

    The size of the pitch of the lathing depends on what is the calculated angle of inclination of the roof slope:

  • At an angle of up to 10 degrees, a continuous covering of boards or OSB is performed.
  • If the angle is 10-15 degrees, then the step between the lathing bars is 450 mm.
  • When the angle is more than 15 degrees, the pitch of the beams can be up to 610 mm. If the pitch of the lathing bars is not calculated correctly, then, most likely, the entire roof will fail.

    And you have to do everything again. Since the nailed ondulin sheet is almost impossible to remove without damage.

  • the technique of laying sheets of ondulin prohibits making overlaps of four sheets of material in one corner. Very often this leads to deformation of the extreme parts of the material;
  • when installing the material, you should monitor the size of the overhang. If the overhang is very large, then it is quite possible that the sheet deflects in this place.

    If the overhang, on the contrary, is very short, then debris carried by the wind will clog under it and precipitation will fall;

  • before starting the actual installation work, carefully study the installation instructions. Indeed, the durability of the roof of your house depends on how well the installation will be performed.

Step-by-step instructions for mounting sheets

  1. Before laying the ondulin, the crate should be filled. The lathing bars are nailed to the rafters from each other at the right distance.

    To maintain the parallelism of the lathing bars, a wooden block of the required length is used - a conductor.

  2. The laying method does not affect the marking of the ondulin in any way. The main thing is that the markup should be done neatly.

    To do this, use a colored pencil or marker and a convenient piece of paper.

  3. Ondulin sheets are best cut with a regular hacksaw for wood, but with small teeth. And so that the hacksaw does not get stuck in soft material, it should be lubricated with oil during operation.

    The use of reciprocating or circular electric saws is also acceptable.

  4. The mass of one sheet of ondulin is 6 kg. Even one person can lift and lay it on the roof.
  5. Begin to lay the sheets of material from the edge of the roof, which is located from the prevailing winds on the opposite side. The second row of sheets begins with laying half of the sheet, so that then there is an overlap in the corner of three sheets.

    With this method of installation, installation is much faster.

  6. The sheets should be nailed to the crate at the ends of the sheets in each wave, also along the edges of the overlaps on both sides and in the end overlap. One sheet is nailed with 20 nails.
  7. In order for the fastener to occur exactly along the centerline of the sheathing bar, pull the rope between the extreme nails.
  8. For the device of the valleys, special elements should be used. To install them, you need to arrange an additional crate.
  9. The fastening of the ridge elements starts from the leeward side. Necessarily with an overlap.

    The amount of overlap is 125 mm and more. When attaching the element, nails are driven into each wave of the sheet that joins the ridge.

  10. The design of the side joint is done in the same way as the design of the valleys. A special silicone sealant is used for waterproofing.
  11. For the design of the tong, as a rule, the edge of the sheet of material is folded and fixed to the gable board. But in order to be able to use such a method, it is necessary that there be heat.

    Then the ondulin sheet softens and bends easily.

  12. In order for the roof edge to be properly arranged, ridge or gable elements are used.
  13. At the end joints of ondulin sheets with vertical walls, ventilation and chimneys, a covering apron is used. For reliable waterproofing of the joint, silicone sealant is used.

    The apron must be nailed to the fabric on each wave.

  14. A special gable element is used to design the forceps. Sometimes, as a last resort, a ridge element can also be installed.
  15. In order to organize the lighting of the attic room, a roof window is used. It is fixed on every wave.

    The top sheet is laid so that there is an overlap over the base of the window.

  16. To issue through the ondulin roof ventilation ducts, use a special element called "ondulin ventilation pipe". Strengthen it on every wave.

    The top sheet should be laid with an overlap over the base of this element.

  17. In order to eliminate the gap between the sheets, ridge elements and on the cornice, a "frame filler" is used.
  18. If the elements of the lathing are not wooden, but metal, then self-tapping screws are used to fasten the sheets of ondulin. Do not screw them in manually.

    Screwdriver required.

Laying over the old roof

In principle, if a decision is made to arrange a roof from ondulin, then it is better to dismantle the material that was previously used.

But if you wish, you can lay ondulin on top of the old material.

It all starts with preparation.

First of all, we examine the old material.

We remove everything from the roof that should not be there: branches, leaves, other debris.

All branches that are in contact with the roof should be cut.

If this is not done, then in a strong wind, such branches will surely break and damage the roofing material.

If during the inspection defects are found: chips and cracks on the slate, deformation of the corrugated board or metal roofing, bubbles on the roofing felt, then they should be eliminated.

Cut the bubbles.

Align the bent pieces.

Nothing should interfere with the laying of ondulin.

Now you need to arrange the crate.

But it is not required everywhere.

If roofing material is laid on the slopes and no serious defects have been identified, then you can mount the sheets on the old crate.

If ondulin is to be mounted on a folded or corrugated roof, then two battens are made:

  • vertical lathing is necessary so that the protrusions on the metal roof do not interfere with laying the horizontal lathing;
  • horizontal lathing (standard for ondulin).

The ondulin sheet stacking technology is standard.

We mount additional elements

One of the important elements on the roof is the valley.

That is, the inner corner that two slopes form.

In this place, there is a high probability of leaks during a snowy winter, and therefore they approach its device with special care.

More about the device.

About the repair of the roof in the country c. Repairs different types roofs: shingles, metal, roll, slate.

About installing rafters with your own hands. Requirements for the rafter system, design, types and features of rafter systems, installation methods.

In those places where valleys are formed, at the stage of constructing the lathing, a separate, reinforced lathing is made.

The width of the board must be at least 100 mm.

Two boards are laid along the line of intersection of the slopes.

The valley gutter is placed exactly between the boards.

And the shelves of the valley rest on these boards with their entire plane.

We mount the ondulin valley:

  • we begin the installation of elements from the cornice. We lay the first element flush with and fix it in the upper corners with two self-tapping screws;
  • we lay the following elements, making an overlap of 15 cm;
  • we carry out marking and cutting of ondulin sheets. To do this, we use a hacksaw for wood, an electric jigsaw or a hand-held circular saw;
  • we lay the sheet on the crate so that the cut coincides with the borders of the valley gutter. Now the ondulin and the valley can be fixed.

    Nails should be driven in at a distance of 5 cm from the edge of the sheet into each wave. We fix both the ondulin and the valley at the same time;

  • the first element of the valley is cut flush with the cornice.

Gable element ondulin is 1.04 meters long.

The usable length of this element is only 96 centimeters, because 8 centimeters goes for an overlap.

Install the gable elements from the eaves to the ridge of the roof with an overlap.

There are transverse protrusions on the elements - these are the overlap places.

used to decorate the skate.

The length of the element is 1.06 meters.

Useful length 98 cm and 8 cm overlap.

To decorate the ridge, an ondulin covering apron is installed on both slopes with an overlap of 4 cm.

A distance of 1 cm is left between the upper edges of the covering aprons so that the air can fully escape.

The joint of the aprons is covered with a ridge element.

On each side, along the edges of the ridge, a ridge end element is installed.

Fastening is carried out in each wave of the sheet, which is located below.

When purchasing ondulin sheets, you should know that sheets and additional elements work best when they are produced by the same company.

The same goes for sealants: tapes and pastes.

Therefore, if you are interested in high quality roofing, immediately, in one place, purchase everything.

And in appearance there will be no differences, and everything will be much easier to mount.

And the quality of the roof will be very high!

Video on how to cover the roof with ondulin.

Covering the roof of the bath with ondulin is one of the most popular solutions. And this is due not at all to the low cost of the roofing, but to the peculiarities of operation, the loads acting on the roof of the bathhouse and the ongoing processes.

We can safely say that covering the bath with ondulin is more cost-effective than, for example, metal tiles. Why?

During the use of the bath for its intended purpose, the premises have a very high temperature and humidity. Steam penetrates through the ceilings and accumulates in the attic. If the roof is not insulated, then the condensate settles on the lower part of the roof covering, flows down onto the wooden rafters and the battens. Moreover, the lower the air temperature outside, the more moisture accumulates on the surfaces. And moisture, as you know, is the main enemy of any roof.

Consider another situation when the bath is periodically operated in winter timewhen there is a layer of snow on the roof. Metal roofing has a high thermal conductivity. When the roof warms up, the snow begins to thaw and then freeze, forming ice. In such conditions, corrosion processes progress rapidly, which leads to the need for maintenance, repair or even replacement of the roof covering.

Considering all of the above situations, we conclude: a bath requires a roof covering with low thermal conductivity and impervious to moisture. Optimal solution - ondulin, which:

  • in the production process, it is impregnated with bitumen from all sides, after which it perfectly tolerates operation in conditions of high humidity;
  • does not collapse due to several scratches that appear;
  • heats up quickly and prevents condensation on the surface;
  • does not make noise in the rain;
  • dries quickly;
  • has a low weight, which reduces the load on the foundation.

However, you shouldn't expect ondulin to last 50 years. This material is not highly durable and wear resistant. Subject to all installation rules, the roof will last 15-20 years, after which it will be necessary to update the coating due to the loss of ondulin's original shade and, possibly, shape.

Important! Among the disadvantages of ondulin is high flammability. But this material is not prone to spontaneous combustion, it only supports combustion. This disadvantage can also be considered as an advantage, since with a quick release of fire outside, it is possible to save the main part of the building.

Types of ondulin

Ondulin is produced in three versions. The sheets have different sizes and weights, but they are produced using the same technology.

NameTechnical specificationsFeatures:

195 x 96 cm - dimensions.
3 mm - thickness.
6,3 kg - weight.
There are markings on the sheets, relying on which it is convenient to drive in nails. There is a hydro-barrier lock.

On sheets of 10 waves.

195 x 76 cm - dimensions.
3 mm - thickness.
5 kg - weight.
The narrowest eight-wave sheets.

When installing narrow sheets, there will be more longitudinal overlaps, respectively, the overall rigidity of the roof and its bearing capacity will increase.

100 x 75 cm - dimensions.
2.6mm thickness.
2.5 kg - weight.
The best option for baths with a small or complex roof. The small size of the eight wave sheets helps reduce cut and waste.

The waves of all types of ondulin are the same - 9.5 cm pitch and 3.8 cm height. To minimize the amount of waste when arranging the roof, you can combine different sheets.

Ondulin installation rules

Installation rules are as simple as possible, remember and apply them even for those who have not previously been involved in the installation of roofing.

Bituminous sheets are fixed either on a solid or on a sparse crate, observing the recommended overlap values. The exact data are presented in the tables below.

Data for roofs with a slope of 5-10 degrees.

The crate is equipped with a solid one.

Important! In all the situations under consideration, the edge of the ondulin sheet on the cornice cannot be more than 35 mm from the edge of the sheathing.

Data for roofs with a slope of 10-15 degrees.

Data for roofs sloped over 15 degrees.

  • valley strips 100 cm long, 50 cm wide;

  • ridge strips 100 x 50 cm;

  • sealing tape 250 x 30 cm;

    Onduflesh sealing tape

  • gable strips 100 x 21 cm;

  • nails 70 mm long;

  • foam core, 19 mm thick, 85 cm long;

  • steam / waterproofing / superdiffusion membrane “Ondutis”.

General rules for performing work on the installation of bituminous sheets.

The ruleDescription

When working on the roof, be sure to use a safety harness and rope.

The safety ropes must not be attached to the heads of the chimney or ventilation pipes.

To move on the roof, it is necessary to use a ladder with a hook, ladders with transverse slats to support the legs.

Rain, hail, fog, ice, wind at a speed of more than 10 m / s - in such weather conditions, it is prohibited to lay sheets.

Bituminous sheets are laid strictly at an air temperature above -5 ° C, but not more than + 30 ° C. In hot weather, ondulin becomes too plastic and it is inconvenient to work with it, especially for novice craftsmen.

It is convenient to mark the sheets with a colored pencil, using a ruler, a rail, a stretched thread or an even factory edge of another ondulin sheet.

Determine the direction of the prevailing winds for your area. It is necessary to start laying sheets from the lower edge of the roof, from the side where there is no wind.

Stretching or compressing bituminous sheets by more than 1 cm is highly discouraged.

The second, and then every even row should not start with a whole sheet, but with a sawn in two lengthways.

4 corners of the sheets should not converge in one place at once, otherwise deformation cannot be avoided roofing material.

● All nails are driven into the upper crest of the wave at right angles to the sheathing.

● The first four nails are driven into the corners of the sheet.

● From below and from above, nails are driven into each comb.

● In the central part, nails are driven in through one wave so that the ondulin does not deform.

● Nails are driven into the overlapping extreme wave during the installation of the next sheet.

Calculation of roofing and additional elements for the roof of the bath

Step 1. Calculation of the number of sheets.

First you need to measure the roof.

Initial data: ridge length 8 m, pediment length 16 m, slope length 4 m, total roof area 64 m2.

For the calculation, take a sheet of ondulin 1 m 95 cm long and 95 cm wide.

The useful area of the sheets depends on the slope of the roof:

  • 5-10 degrees - 1.29 m2;
  • 10-15 degrees - 1.54 m2;
  • 15 degrees and above - 1.56 m2.

In our case, the useful area of one sheet is 1.56 m2.

To find out the number of sheets, it is necessary to divide the total roof area by the usable area of one sheet and round it up to an integer value.

64 m2: 1.56 m2 = 42 sheets.

Professionals advise purchasing sheets from stocks of 5-10% of the total. So, for a roof with an area of 64 square meters it is recommended to purchase 45 sheets of ondulin.

Step 2. Calculate the number of ridge strips.

In addition to the bituminous sheets themselves, you will need a ridge strip. Useful length of one plank is 85 cm.

Accordingly, we divide the length of the roof ridge by the useful length of the plank and we get the required amount.

8 m: 0.85 m = 10 planks.

Step 3. Calculation of the number of gable strips.

We use the formula that was used to calculate the number of ridge slats.

Useful length of the gable bar 95 cm.

16 m: 0.95 m = 17 pliers.

Plus one spare tong, 18 in total.

Step 4. Calculation of the number of nails.

One sheet of ondulin should be fixed with twenty nails. Multiply the number of sheets by the number of nails.

45 x 20 = 900 pieces.

Also, nails will be needed to fix the additional elements, so it is worth taking with a margin, so as not to interrupt work due to suddenly running out of hardware.

We cover the roof with our own hands. Instructions

Stage 1. Mount the crate for ondulin. Consider the slope of the roof to accurately determine the distance between the boards.

Before you start laying the coating, bars must be nailed under the gable and ridge strips for greater structural rigidity.

Fasten the bars at a distance of up to ten centimeters from the center of the ridge bar. This distance is chosen depending on how steep or gentle the slopes are. It is best to try the ridge on the roof in advance.

Stage 2.Attach a special apron strip bending to different angles to the cornice. Due to its design, the element can be fixed at any distance from the edge of the cornice.

Fasten the elements with a five centimeter overlap.

Stage 3. Install the windboard 3 cm above the level of the battens.

Prepare the roof covering for installation. Prune if necessary. Install the first cover sheet so that its long edge fits over the windboard. If a drip was installed before, then install the sheet flush with the edge of the roof.

If the presence of a drip is not provided, the sheet should hang over the edge of the roof by no more than five centimeters.

Stage 4. Use cornice filler to protect the roof space from birds, insects and debris. To ensure ventilation of the under-roof space, make holes in the filler by extruding the material with a suitable tool at hand.

Stage 5. Begin the attachment process.

New nails have a solid, solid head. The shade of the cap matches the color of the roofing material. Hammer in nails, positioning them perpendicular to the covering and the battens.

Stage 6. If it is necessary to install the gable elements, then fix the wind board tight to the ondulin, and the upper edge of the board should be 35 mm higher than the sheathing surface.

The pliers are mounted from the bottom up. The overlap of the tongs is 12-15 cm.

Drive in the nails from above and from the side with a step of 31 cm, and pay special attention to the fixation overlaps.

Stage 7. Attach the skate. The planks are fixed, taking into account the direction of the winds. Determine which direction it blows most often and mount the skate on the other side.

Take the seal (cornice filler), free the holes and insert it under the strip.

Nail the skate on each underlying wave of ondulin, alternately on each side.

Install the following ridge strips with an overlap of 15 cm and so that the water barriers match.

Video - Analysis of possible errors

Internal joint of slopes

It is designed with the use of the valley strip.

Stage 1. Secure the planks or planks to provide additional support for the plank. The plank itself will be attached to these boards.

Stage 2. Take a sheet of roofing and clip it onto the bottom ramp. If necessary, trim it.

Don't forget about the order of hammering the fasteners.

Stage 3. Stick the Ondutis BL sealing tape to the overlaps of the valleys for better roof tightness.

Stage 4. Nail the valley bar. Drive nails into each ridge underneath.

Stage 5. Secure the seal.

Start attaching the sheets over the plank. The bottom edge should not be more than seven centimeters from the fixing point. Drive fasteners into each ridge along the bottom edge.

Consider an example on a roof with a slope greater than 15 degrees.

In this case, under the ondulin, a sparse lathing of boards with a pitch of 61 cm is mounted.

Stage 1. Attach additional boards to the lower slope. Nail them in such a way that they fit the pliers.

Stage 2. Take a sheet and install it on the lower slope of a broken roof. Drive in the hardware from the bottom, then from the top, and then in the center in a checkerboard pattern through one wave.

Stage 3. Attach a seal to the top edge of the fixed sheet. Lay the gable strips on top with an overlap of 15 cm.

Fix the bar from below with nails into each wave of the underlying ondulin.

Important! The lower edge of the sheet should not hang more than 7 cm from the attachment point.

End bar: installation

Endova - a roof element located at the junction of two slopes (inner corner).

Stage 1. There should be a solid base along the axis of the valley. The width of the lathing is at least 25 cm from the central axis of the plank.

Stage 2. Lay items from bottom to top. Fasten the first plank with the lower edge extended by 5-7 cm, in the future, the excess is not difficult to trim.

On a note! To align the valley plank with the axis as accurately as possible, fix it with a construction stapler on four sides. Drive the staples closer to the edges.

Similarly, place and fix with a stapler the remaining elements with an overlap of 15 cm.

Stage 3. Cut the sheets of ondulin overlying the valley bar at a distance of 5-6 cm from the axis of the valley.

Attach the sheets to either side of the valley. Drive fasteners into each wave at a distance of 3-5 cm from the edges of the plank.

Horizontal roof-to-wall joint: sealing

Relevant for baths with adjoining verandas or terraces, as well as baths attached to the house.

A covering apron and a tape "Onduflesh Super" are used to design the abutment.

Stage 1. Nail an additional plank or timber to the roof lathing next to the wall to provide greater structural strength.

Stage 2. Install the roofing.

Stage 3. Lay cover aprons with an overlap in one wave. One side of the additional elements must adjoin the wall, the other must lie on the bituminous sheets.

Fix the lower part of the elements with nails in each wave. Fix the upper part of the apron with self-tapping screws if the abutment is loose.

Stage 4. Cut a 15 cm wide strip from the Onduflesh Super tape. Stick the tape over the apron, going over the wall.

Stage 5. Secure the top of the sealing tape with a metal strip, into the holes of which screw the self-tapping screws.

Sloping roof to wall abutment: sealing

Relevant for baths with a porch with a gable roof.

Stage 1. Nail the board or bars tightly to the wall on the crate.

Stage 2. Secure the roofing material.

Stage 3. Stick "Onduband" or "Onduflesh Super" on the joint between the wall and the covering to seal the joint.

Stage 4. Screw a metal strip to the top edge of the tape.

And secure the lower edge of the tape with roofing nails.

Chimney passage: installation of additional elements

Almost every bath has a chimney. The only exceptions are saunas with electric heaters. The place of passage of the chimney through the roof must be correctly arranged in order to prevent leaks.

Stage 1. Start by finishing the front wall of the pipe. Try on a covering apron - it should adjoin the pipe so that there is 1 wave each to the right and left of the walls).

Cut off the excess with an assembly knife.

Put the apron in place and fasten it with nails, and do not drive them into the extreme waves.

Seal the corners of the apron with pieces of Onduflesh Super tape.

Stage 2. Attach an apron strip to the side walls of the pipe (side abutment).

Cut off the excess. Nail the apron to the pre-mounted additional lathing bars.

Stage 3. Stick the sealing tape on the back of the pipe and over the aprons. For this, a tape 15 cm wide is enough.

Fix the sealing tape and apron with metal strips.

Apply a polyurethane sealant between the top edge of the apron and the wall.

Stage 4. Attach an additional sheet of ondulin behind the back wall of the chimney.

Bath roof repair. Step-by-step instruction

Consider the option of updating the roof of a bathhouse without dismantling the old coating, which in this case is represented by galvanized corrugated board.

With the help of ondulin, you can eliminate all the shortcomings of the old roof:

  • poor quality joints leading to leakage;
  • increased wear of material with high thermal conductivity.

Stage 1. Take measurements and prepare boards with a thickness of at least 25 mm for the installation of battens and counter battens.

Nail boards over the old roofing, placing them parallel to the corrugated board ridges.

Nail the crate under the ondulin perpendicular to the fixed boards. The recommended batten pitch can be found in the tables above.

Stage 2. Begin laying and fixing the ondulin sheets. Due to the low weight of the sheets, an increased load on the supporting structures of the structure and the foundation is excluded.

Stage 3. Fix the additional elements.

Roof repairs are carried out as soon as possible and with minimal costs.

Useful life hacks from professionals

Advice 1. You can cut the ondulin across using an ordinary hacksaw for wood. And so that the cutting edge does not get clogged with bitumen, periodically moisten it with water. You can also use silicone grease or oil.

But the most convenient way is to use a jigsaw. And to clean the knife, simply saw off any unnecessary block of wood.

You can cut a bituminous sheet along the wave with an ordinary construction knife.

Advice 2. Nails need to be driven in, slightly sinking the cap into the cover. But at the same time it is important to calculate the efforts so that the hammer does not break the sheet when trying to hammer the hardware as deep as possible.

Video - How to hammer nails correctly

Advice 3. Dismantling an already nailed sheet without spoiling it is not just problematic, but in most cases impossible. This is always worth remembering. Make sure the sheet is perfectly flat, then start fixing. It is for this purpose that a reference thread is pulled along the lower edge of the crate.

Tip 4. If it becomes necessary to walk with your feet on the roofing, then never step between the waves. Place your foot exclusively on the top ridges.

Tip 5. Never throw away the installation instructions that will be attached to the roofing material delivered to the site. Firstly, this instruction contains all the necessary distances, overlaps and overhangs. And secondly, this instruction is a warranty card for the materials.

Tip 6. Take care of your ondulin roof to extend its lifespan by several years. Diagnose the condition of the roof twice a year. The best time for this is October and May.

Make sure that the branches of the bushes and trees located near the bath do not come into contact with the roof. If necessary, cut them off in time with a pruner, otherwise the roof repair cannot be avoided.

Clean the ondulin with a broom at least twice a year. In the spring, you need to remove the garbage that has accumulated over the long winter, and in the fall you need to remove all the fallen leaves. All the debris that remains on the roof will definitely start to rot. The roofing itself is unlikely to quickly collapse from this, but the service life will be shortened for sure.

Don't forget to clean your gutters.

On a note! It is much more convenient to clean immediately after the last rain.

The completion of the main construction work can be called the arrangement of the roof. This is the last stage, after which the interior is finished and the communications are connected. Do-it-yourself coating with ondulin can speed up roofing work.

This modern roofing material is made on a bitumen basis and can be installed on a newly erected structure and on an old roof without prior dismantling. Ondulin is considered a versatile material, since roofs of any shape, area and angle of inclination are covered with it. Subject to the rules of installation, the coating turns out to be airtight and durable, capable of withstanding any natural phenomena.

Characteristic features of the material

Ondulin is considered an inexpensive but high-tech material. It was invented by the French after the war in order to quickly rebuild old, dilapidated houses, covered with slate, tiles or metal, after bombing.

The technological process of covering the roof with ondulin implies the following: products with a wavy surface were molded from refined cellulose fibers, painted and impregnated with bitumen. The result is a material with good water-repellent properties, resistant to sudden temperature changes, lightweight, but capable of withstanding mechanical stress. Low weight allows you to use the material for roof repairs without disassembling the old coating.

Before laying ondulin on the roof, you should familiarize yourself with its advantages:

  • Simple assembly... The roofing material can be laid in 1-2 days, without the involvement of auxiliary workers, without experience and a special set of tools.
  • Low weight... The mass of one standard sheet does not exceed 6 kg, therefore, under the ondulin it is possible not to make a massive base or a complex foundation.
  • Flexibility... Bitumen-based materials lend themselves to bending, which makes roofing easier to install on complex structures.
  • Acceptable cost. Specifications allow you to lay material on any frame, both old and new, doing all the work yourself. This allows the homeowner to save on roofing.

Among the disadvantages of ondulin are the following:

  • the service life does not exceed 20 years.
  • The color scheme consists of 4 main types: black, brown, red and green.
  • Under influence sun rays the pigment is destroyed and the material fades.

How to cover the roof with ondulin correctly - roof features

The roof covered with ondulin is a roofing cake of the following composition:

  • Rafter system... Natural wood is used to make the frame. The rafter legs are 5 * 15 cm in size and are located at a distance of 0.5-0.8 m from each other. The roofing material is lightweight, so the frame does not require additional reinforcement.
  • Thermal insulation material... Do-it-yourself roofing with ondulin suggests thermal insulation rafter system... For this, the space between the rafters is filled with glass wool, slag or basalt wool.
  • Vapor barrier layer... To protect the insulation from vapors coming from below and subsequent wetting, it is necessary to use a vapor barrier membrane. This material is used to cover the thermal insulation from below.
  • Waterproofing works... Before laying ondulin, it is necessary to waterproof the roof. Waterproofing material protects wooden frame and thermal insulation from above against condensation or accidental leaks. The waterproofing is fixed on rafter legsah, using a construction stapler.
  • Counter grill... To ensure ventilation inside the structure on the rafters on top waterproofing material stuff the slats. These actions are performed before the ondulin is directly laid.
  • Lathing... For the installation of an ondulin roof, a solid lathing using moisture-resistant plywood or made of boards with an unedged edge is required. In the case of boards, the pitch of the sheathing for ondulin is 10-15 cm. This design will prevent deformation of the roofing material during operation.
  • Ondulin... The last thing to do is to cover the roof with ondulin. The sheets are fixed to the crate with special nails, stacking up to 15 cm on top of each other. Immediately before laying, the wooden frame and other elements are protected from fire and decay using antiseptic solutions and fire retardants.

Required materials and tool kit

For the installation of ondulin, no special tools are used, which allows you to do almost all the work yourself.

To solve the question of how to properly cover the roof with ondulin, you will need the following:

  • Roofing material, in particular ondulin sheets, in the required amount taking into account the margin for trimming and overlaps.
  • Ridge profile covering the entire length of the roof. When determining the length of the product, one should not forget that at the junction, the parts overlap from 10 to 25 cm.
  • Special fasteners. The most commonly used carbon steel nails are painted the same color as the material and have a rubber head.
  • Materials for the manufacture of lathing, pre-treated with an antiseptic solution. It can be a board or bars with a section of 4 * 4 cm.
  • Waterproofing material, which can be used as a film or membrane.
  • Hacksaw and hammer.
  • Pencil and measuring tools.

Coating the roof with ondulin - step by step instructions

Despite the easy processing of the material and simple installation technology, which even an inexperienced master can handle, the work must be performed at a high quality level, since the operational period and reliability of the structure depend on this.

When laying ondulin, you should follow the step-by-step instructions on how to cover the roof with ondulin:

  • The installed rafter system is covered with a waterproofing material. To do this, you need to cut strips along the length of the slope and lay them perpendicular to the rafters, making an overlap of up to 15 cm. You can fix the material with a construction stapler, and the joints must be glued with tape.
  • On top of the waterproofing along the rafter legs, a counter-lattice is pounded. The slats can be fastened with nails or self-tapping screws.
  • Further, the installation of the battens is carried out using moisture-resistant plywood for the solid version or bars located at a distance of 10 cm from each other. Before laying ondulin, the wooden frame is treated with an antiseptic and a fire retardant.
  • Ondulin is laid on the crate. The work begins at the bottom of the slope, laying the sheets with an overlap of up to 15 cm.Each next row is installed with a half-sheet offset and vertical overlap up to 20 cm.
  • The ondulin is fastened to the crate with special nails with a rubber cap with a consumption of up to 20 pieces per sheet.

How to lay - rules

In order to prevent common mistakes during the installation process, we cover the roof with ondulin in compliance with the following rules:

  • The laying of the material should be carried out in dry weather at a low air temperature, since deformation of the sheets can be observed in the heat.
  • When installing ondulin, do not expose it to strong mechanical stress, this can cause deformation or damage to the material.

Recall school course geometry

The hip roof consists of 4 slopes. Two of them are in the shape of a trapezoid, and two more are in the shape of an isosceles triangle.

When installing rafters 4-5 meters long, the difference in the lengths of the sides of a triangle or trapezoid of 5 centimeters may seem insignificant. However, this difference makes isosceles triangles just triangles, and trapeziums into quadrangles with different side lengths.

"How can this affect the roofing materials installed on the roof?" - you ask. We answer - in the most negative way.

Installation of ondulin must be started from the lower edge of the slope. Installation of sheets in such a way that their upper and lower cuts are parallel to the lower cut of the ramp will lead to the formation of a wedge to the ridge on the ramp.

In order to close it, you will have to cut each sheet of the upper edge individually, sitting on the roof. That is, a small difference in the size of the rafters will lead to a significant increase in waste, labor and cost. roofing works, and also significantly increase the likelihood of leaks and the fact that roof repairs will have to be done very often.

In addition, the lines of the rows on the adjacent slopes will not look parallel, which will give the roof a sloppy, unattractive look.

What needs to be done before starting the installation of ondulin

Before starting the installation of ondulin, it is necessary to check the correctness of the geometric shapes of the slopes. Or, as the builders say, check the geometry.

Anyone who is building a house with his own hands can do this work on his own by inviting only one assistant.

The task that needs to be completed is quite simple - to check the correspondence of the sizes of the sides of the slopes (triangles and trapezoids)

To do this work, it is enough to use any strong thread or braided fishing line. It is not recommended to use monofilament line - it can stretch a lot.

Should be of the same length:

1. Lateral sides of trapezoids.

2. The sides of the triangles.

3. Diagonals of trapezoids.

Diagonals mean the distance between the lower left and upper right points of the trapezoid, as well as between the lower right and upper left points.

Council. Since the lateral sides of the trapeziums in our case are simultaneously the lateral triangles, the execution of points 1 and 2 can be combined.

If the above dimensions are the same, proceed with the installation of ondulin. If a difference is found, eliminate it. This is done quite simply - by sawing off excess or installing overlays.

Although this work is carried out only in relation to the outer rafter legs, before installation, after the string orienting the lower edge of the lower row of roofing materials is tightened, you should carefully examine the roof slope and make sure that the lower ends of the remaining rafter legs are not below the string.

If you find the ends of the rafter legs lowered below, it is necessary to shorten them to the level of the cord. Neglecting this rule will lead to the fact that the installation of wind boards and the filing of the cornices will be difficult, and they themselves will turn out to be uneven.

How to properly mount ondulin on a hip roof

The installation of the lathing (and, if necessary, counter-lathing) under the ondulin on the hip roof is fundamentally no different from the installation of the lathing on the slopes of the gable roof.

There are 3 nuances that you should pay attention to:

1. The slope of trapezoidal and triangular slopes can be different. Therefore, the pitch of the lathing on different slopes should be selected in accordance with the slope.

2. Since the lathing on adjacent slopes can have a different pitch, special attention should be paid to the places of their mates and the installation of reinforcement under the ridge, valley and tongue.

3. In order to maximally protect your home from the harmful effects of external factors, you should use Ondutis roofing films.

The beginning of the installation of roofing sheets Ondulin on the slopes hip roof slightly different from starting the installation of roofing materials on a gable roof.

The first to take cover are the trapezoidal rays.

The ondulin sheet, mounted first in the bottom row, is laid on the roof so that its lower point (closest to the edge of the corner rafter) is 10 - 20 mm from the lower point of the slope. After that, a marking is made, the part of the ondulin sheet protruding above the edge of the slope is cut off, and the sheet is nailed to the crate with branded nails.

It is impossible not to pay attention to the fact that ondulin can be cut with a hacksaw or knife, and the weight of an ondulin sheet is only 6 kg, which allows all the described work to be performed without lowering the roofing materials of Ondulin to the ground and without using electricity. This is a serious competitive advantage over slate, metal tile and profiled sheet, since it reduces the time of work and (if the work is performed by hired roofers) its cost.

The bottom row of ondulin sheets is laid in accordance with the installation instructions. The last sheet of the row is laid in the same way as the first (with preliminary marking and trimming).

The installation of the second and subsequent rows is carried out in the same way as the installation of the lower row - the outermost sheet is marked and cut in place, the remaining sheets are fixed in the traditional way, the last sheet is marked and cut in place. It is obligatory to shift each next row relative to the previous one by about half a sheet.

“Why about? The Ondulin company demands to shift exactly half a sheet! " - you ask.

The fact is that a situation may arise in which the first sheet of the row will be small size (for example, 1 wave wide). It is not possible to securely fix such a piece, which increases the appearance of leaks. In this case, it is rational to shift the entire row by 1-2 waves and nail a trimmed sheet of ondulin of a decent size. The main thing is not to join 4 sheets at once in one place.

A similar situation can arise when mounting the last sheet of a row. In this case, the overlap should be increased by 1-2 waves, which will increase the size of the last sheet.

After laying on trapezoidal slopes, ondulin is mounted on triangular slopes.

Particular attention should be paid to the installation of the ridge element. We have already described how to properly mount the ridge on a hip roof. We recommend that you strictly adhere to the installation instructions when performing work.

The installation of ondulin at the exit points of pipes requires no less attention - it is necessary not only to correctly mount the ondulin sheets, but also to reliably isolate the junction points. Poor performance of these works will lead to the imminent appearance of leaks, which means that roof repairs will be required.

Features of mounting ondulin on a hip roof

Houses with hip roofs on which the ondulin lies look attractive. However, in order for the roof on such a roof to be not only attractive, but also reliable, certain rules must be observed during its installation.

Laying ondulin

In order for the roof to be able to withstand all operational loads, the installation of this material must be carried out according to a certain technology recommended by the manufacturer:

Laying is carried out taking into account the direction of the winds

Ondulin sheets are stacked with an overlap

The size of the overlap depends on the slope angle

Ondulin is fastened with special nails with lockable caps

Laying ondulin on the roof ridge

The ridge, valley and end strips are installed last

Laying the wind bar

Installation of cornice filler

How to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands

If you are thinking how to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands, then you will find the answer in this article. Complete information on the roof with ondulin.

Covering the roof with ondulin yourself

In the modern world, more and more varieties of roofing materials appear every year, but at the same time, long-known types of flooring are not inferior in their popularity. Particularly appreciated by users are coatings with high strength, long service life and a simple installation process. It is to such products that roofing ondulin can be attributed, that is, sheets of cellulose impregnated with a bituminous mixture. Of course, this is a fairly general idea of this material, since it contains many components and additives that make the product strong, resistant to aggressive environments and durable. Today, it is not difficult to cover the roof with ondulin, without even involving professional builders in the process. However, before deciding on such a procedure, you should carefully study all the subtleties of the work, as well as the properties and characteristics of the material. To properly cover the roof with ondulin, you first need to familiarize yourself with the composition of the product in detail.

Ondulin characteristics

More than 70 years ago, at one of the Parisian factories, it was decided to release a new product based on cardboard and bitumen. This product was an onduline flooring, which was appreciated by consumers from all over the world, because it is this material with its low cost that has a fairly high reliability. Manufacturers give a guarantee for ondulin roofing for up to 15 years, however, in practice, you can make sure that such a flooring is able to serve a much longer period, up to 50 years. How is it possible to achieve such an effective result? Many users know that covering the roof with ondulin means providing a reliable shelter from negative environmental factors, as well as giving the house an aesthetic appearance... Let's analyze the composition of the material in more detail. The following ingredients can be considered the main components:

  • refined bitumen;
  • cellulose fibers obtained from cardboard production waste;
  • fiberglass;
  • mineral fillers;
  • various resin impregnations.

However, you can get a quality product only if you follow a certain manufacturing process.

Ondulin production technology

For getting quality material, which allows you to competently cover the roof with ondulin, the raw materials must be subject to preliminary control. First of all, all garbage is removed from the waste paper, then the peeled paper is processed into pulp. Further, the paper pulp goes through a drying stage on a special conveyor, where the pulp is shaped into corrugated sheets. At the next stage, the web is cut into pieces of one length and impregnated with a bitumen mixture. This process is accompanied by an increased temperature and high pressure, due to which the sheets are impregnated evenly and with the highest quality. To increase the tensile strength of ondulin, as well as to give the products more elasticity, resins, fiberglass and mineral fillers can be added to the composition. Coloring of sheets is carried out in total mass, before impregnation with bitumen, thanks to which the saturated color remains for many years. And these are not all the positive aspects of the material.

Benefits of onduline coating

First of all, it should be noted that the sheets are made on the basis of only natural components, which means that one of the advantages of ondulin is its environmental safety. You can also name the following positive aspects of using the coating:

  • minimal water absorption, due to which moisture does not enter the under-roof layer;
  • frost resistance of products;
  • resistance to weather factors, that is, the flooring is not afraid of snow storms or torrential rains, the coating also withstands hail, strong wind and UV radiation;
  • antibacterial, this quality prevents the development of fungi, mold, bacteria and other microorganisms on the surface of the roof;
  • resistance to chemical components (acids, alkalis, gases);
  • ease of installation - to cover the roof with ondulin, you can use the tools of a home craftsman;
  • ease of care;
  • affordable cost;
  • low specific gravity, which allows the material not to exert significant pressure on load-bearing walls buildings.

Also, do not forget that this is a product with a long service life. Ondulin has a wide range of colors, but mainly matte colors - red, green, black, brown and their shades.

Physical and mechanical properties

The main characteristics of the ondulin material are presented in the table.

Wave height - 36 mm;

Many people compare ondulin with slate. However, the main difference between ondulin roofing and slate is that this material does not contain asbestos. And working with ondulin is much easier, because it does not crumble or break even when nails are driven into it. In addition, it is a fairly economical material with an affordable cost. However, it is definitely not possible to answer the question of how much it costs to cover the roof with ondulin. After all, you need to know the dimensions of the roof, as well as which technology was chosen as the main one. But it is not at all difficult to calculate the approximate cost, it is enough to know the cost of one sheet and the parameters of the roof. Experts recommend adding 5-10% to the final figure.

1. Sheathing device for ondulin. In the instructions for the material, in order to cover the roof with ondulin, it is recommended to arrange a continuous crate. This allows you to fix the products as firmly as possible and preserve their appearance for many years, preventing subsidence during heavy snowfalls. In addition, this is the only way to move on the roof without any problems. The lathing can be made of 60x40 mm timber, OSB-boards or plywood. The specific step will depend on the angle of inclination of the roof:

2. Cutting ondulin. To cover the roof with ondulin, it is necessary to properly prepare the material. Since the sheets have a wavy profile, it can be problematic to do the markup the first time. To cut an ondulin of the required size, it is enough to use a pencil, a long ruler or another ondulin sheet and a grinder. Also, the size can be made with a hacksaw for wood, it is enough just to apply lubricant to the blade, which will help to avoid the saw getting stuck.

3. Fastening the ondulin. You can fix the sheets using the ondulin roofing nails supplied in the kit. Such products are equipped with a special decorative cap to match the sheets and a rubber lining that prevents damage to the ondulin. However, it is possible to properly cover the roof with ondulin using ordinary self-tapping screws. The sheets are not very heavy, so they can be carried without the use of technology. Installation starts from the bottom edge of the lathing, for this the sheet is leveled on the roof and pierced with nails along each wave. The consumption of screws or special nails is approximately 20 pieces per sheet. Then the second sheet is overlapped on the first sheet and also fixed. Thus, the entire row is traversed, after which you can proceed to fixing the second and subsequent rows with a layer of at least 20 cm on the previous ones.

Important! One of the disadvantages of the material is its flammability. Therefore, when deciding how to cover the roof with ondulin near chimneys it is worth taking care of the device of additional layers of hydro and thermal insulation, as well as using a special element (apron) made of rubber.

The easiest way is to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands if the house has a gable roof. The situation is more complicated in the case of a hip roof, in other words, a structure with four slopes (hipped roof). The first step is to measure the rafter system and make sure that the sides of the triangles and trapezoids are of equal length on both sides. If one of the sides is larger, then it is necessary either to saw off from this side structural element, or, conversely, add the corresponding length from the opposite one. In addition, during the installation of the lathing, the angle of inclination should be taken into account, since the trapezoidal and triangular slopes have different angles, then the pitch of the lathing will change. In general, such a roof covering with ondulin practically does not differ from the device of a gable roof. That is, it is advisable to adhere to the following rules:

  • installation is required only at a temperature range from -5 to +30 degrees on a calm day;
  • the sheet is fixed in its natural state, it does not need to be stretched or squeezed;
  • overhangs should not be too small (leads to precipitation into the under-roof space) or large (over time, the sheet deforms and spoils the aesthetics of the roof).

Ondulin roofing differs in many positive qualities, it is durable, attractive in appearance, and in addition, has an affordable cost. Of course, its main undeniable advantage is that you can even cover the roof with ondulin on your own.

How to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands: the right technology

Do-it-yourself roofing with ondulin. Production technology and material characteristics. Benefits and properties of ondulin.

How easy is it to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands?

Roofing is the last stage of building your own home before starting interior decoration and the connection of communications. To reduce the time for roofing work, you can do the installation of ondulin yourself. Ondulin is a modern bitumen-based coating, the laying technology of which allows the material to be mounted both on a new roof and on an old one without disassembling the structure. It is suitable for roofs of any complexity, area and slope, therefore it is considered universal optionused in private and industrial low-rise construction. In this article, we will show you how to properly cover the roof with ondulin to get a durable, airtight coating that can withstand winter frosts and summer rains.

Material characteristic

Ondulin is an inexpensive, technologically advanced roofing material that was invented in the post-war period in France for the quick repair or reconstruction of shell-damaged, dilapidated roofs from traditional ceramic tiles, slate, metal. The technology for the production of this coating consists in obtaining purified cellulose fibers, making sheets with a wavy surface from them, dyeing and impregnating them with petroleum bitumen. Covering the roof with ondulin makes the structure waterproof, resistant to temperature changes, shockproof, but at the same time lightweight. Due to the low weight of each sheet, the installation of ondulin can be performed on the old roofing material without dismantling the structure. This material has the following advantages:

  1. A light weight. Each leaf of an ondulin standard size weighs only 6 kg, so a blood device made of this material does not require the establishment of a massive frame or reinforcement of the foundation.
  2. Ease of installation. Do-it-yourself ondulin roofing is done in 1-2 days without the involvement of hired workers, since it is possible to mount such a coating without special tools and experience.
  3. Flexibility. Sheets of this material based on bitumen have a certain flexibility, which makes it easier to lay ondulin on a roof of complex shape, which is valleys, slopes of different slopes, ribs and dormers.
  4. Affordable price. The ondulin roofing device does not require large expenses from the homeowner by saving the lumber used for the construction of the frame and performing the installation on its own.

Important! Since ondulin was nevertheless conceived as a repair material, it has a service life of 15-20 years and is relatively small colors... It comes in just 4 colors: red, black, brown and green. Before covering the roof with ondulin, it is necessary to take into account that this material fades in the sun due to the destruction of the pigment by ultraviolet rays.

Roof device

Before covering the roof with ondulin, it is necessary to understand the composition of the roofing cake, which is made for this type of roofing material. Roofing with molded cellulose impregnated with bitumen is not difficult due to its light weight. It consists of the following elements:

  • Rafter frame. Fastening of the roofing material is carried out on rafters made of natural wood with a cross section of 50x150 mm, the pitch between which is 50-80 cm. Since the material is lightweight, usually the frame is not weighted with additional elements.
  • Insulation. Before laying ondulin, thermal insulation material is placed between the rafters. The most commonly used mineral-type heaters (basalt wool, glass wool, slag wool).
  • Vapor barrier. Insulation laying technology involves the use of a vapor barrier membrane, which protects the thermal insulation material from below from steam penetration and wetting.
  • Waterproofing. To protect the wooden frame elements and insulation from possible leaks or condensation, a waterproofing film is laid. The waterproofing is attached to the rafter legs using a construction stapler.
  • Counter grill. Before laying ondulin, counter-lattice slats are nailed over the waterproofing along the rafters, which organize the ventilation gap necessary for air circulation inside the structure.
  • Lathing. The type of lathing stipulates step-by-step instruction for installation. Ondulin must be nailed to a solid crate made of moisture-resistant plywood or a lattice made of unedged board, laid in increments of 10-15 cm so that the roofing material does not deform during operation.
  • Ondulin. The roofing material must be nailed directly to the crate with special nails, overlapping the sheets on each other by 10-15 cm.

Please note that before covering the roof with ondulin, most professional craftsmen process wooden frame elements with antiseptic impregnations and fire-blocking compounds to protect them from fire and decay.

Required materials and tools

Many inexperienced craftsmen are wondering how to properly cover the roof with ondulin, and what is needed for this. The fastening of this roofing material is carried out without the use of special tools or expensive equipment, so the installation is often done by hand. To erect a roof from ondulin use:

  1. Sheets of ondulin with dimensions of 0.95x2.05 m, required to cover the entire roof area with a margin of 10-15% for trimming and overlaps.
  2. Ridge profile for the entire length of the ridge, taking into account overlaps between the elements of 10-25 cm.
  3. Fasteners. Special nails for ondulin with a rubber head are made of carbon steel and painted to match the material.
  4. A bar with a section of 40x40 mm or 60x40 mm for the construction of the lathing, treated with an antiseptic.
  5. Waterproofing membrane or film.
  6. Sharp hacksaw for cutting sheets.
  7. Lightweight hammer for hammering in nails.
  8. Screwdriver for fixing the battens.
  9. Ruler, tape measure and building pencil for measuring and marking.

Note! Before you cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands, it is necessary to establish scaffolding around the house or a high staircase that allows you to get to every corner of the slope.

Installation technology

Even without knowing how to fix ondulin, an inexperienced master can easily cope with this task alone, since the sheets of material are easily processed. However, do not forget that the reliability and service life of the roof depends on the quality of installation. For ondulin flooring, the following step-by-step instructions are used:

  • First of all, a waterproofing film must be put on the finished rafters and fixed. To do this, it is rolled out, cut into strips of the required length, which are mounted along the ramp perpendicular to the rafter legs with an overlap of 10-15 cm. The film is fixed to the rafters with a construction stapler, and the joints are glued with tape.
  • Over the waterproofing material along the rafter legs, the slats of the counter-lattice are nailed. To do this, use long nails or screws.
  • On top of the lathing, a lathing made of 4x4 cm, 5x5 cm bars with a step of 10 cm is nailed, or a solid one made of sheets of moisture-resistant plywood.
  • Next, they begin laying ondulin. The sheets of material must be laid with an overlap of 10-15 cm, starting from the lower edge of the ramp. The rows are mounted with an offset of half the sheet, observing a vertical overlap of 15-20 cm.
  • Sheets are nailed to the crate with special nails with wide rubber heads. It takes about 20 fasteners to fix each sheet.

Not knowing how to lay ondulin correctly, inexperienced craftsmen make mistakes when installing the roof. The main thing is to lay this material in dry, but not hot weather, since the elevated temperature leads to deformation of the sheets. It is forbidden to stand on the ondulin during installation, as it may break or change shape.
