The breath of the biathlon season is getting closer, with less than a month left before the start. Most of the teams have long since switched from roller skis to snow and are preparing for the final collection and determination of the lineups. It's time to start introducing the opponents, since there is enough news from the camp of each team.

LEADER

While fighting with physical and mental ailments, and trying to conquer time, he bears the heavy burden of leadership in the team. A few years ago, an ambitious big man from Trondheim dreamed of breaking the reign of the Great and Terrible, and when this finally succeeded, he himself was not allowed to stay on the throne by younger competitors. It seemed that another season - and for Svendsen not the most pleasant image of the eternally second will be fixed. The past season, in addition to the second step of the final podium, brought him two personal silver of the World Championship, which was slightly brightened up by the relay feat.

Knowing the character of Svendsen, there is no doubt that he is not happy with this situation and the wounds inflicted on him by Fourcade have not yet healed. The first conclusions followed already at the end of the season, when the once successful mentor Mikael Löfgren was fired (including on the initiative of leading athletes). Svendsen himself decided to change his training process, abandoning the exorbitant volumes of previous years. But in addition to "physics" he also has to solve a psychological problem, since he lost most of the intramural duels to his counterpart Martin Fourcade. But the great Bjoerndalen used to walk in the shadow of Raphael Poiret for several years in a row.

SWITA

Every year he talks about fatigue and an early retirement, but over the years it only grows stronger, like good wine. And the large and rapidly growing Norwegian youth strives to be like Tura, but so far they only dream of the role of the second number in the team. Berger herself, on the eve of the upcoming season, first spoke of the struggle for the Big Crystal Globe, which in the absence of Magdalena Neuner became even closer and more attractive to her. The Norwegian is ready to sacrifice even world championship medals for him. To do this, she will have to tailor her preparation with an emphasis on the end of the season, which the Tour does not always develop perfectly.

Norway squad in the 2012/13 season

Men:
(1979), (1974), Rune Bratsven (1984), Johannes Boe (1993), (1988), Alexander Us (1980), (1985). Senior Coach - Roger Grubben.

Women:
(1981), Tiril Eckhoff (1990), Hilde Fenne (1993), Bente Lanheim (1990), Eliza Ringen (1989), Sunnöve Sulemdahl (1989), Fanny Strann Horn (1988), Ann Christine Flatland (1982). Senior Coach - Egil Yelland.

Bjoerndalen, whose brilliance becomes less and less bright every year, remains the main newsmaker of the offseason in the team. First, he suffered the death of his father, then broke up with his wife Natalie, although their union seemed stronger than the rocks of Spitsbergen. True, here everything may not be so sad, since, according to rumors, Ole Einar has a new passion, also from the world of biathlon. Maybe new feelings helped him to heal all the sores of recent years, breathing in such a breath of freshness that the legend's long-term personal trainer Roger Grubben spoke about the return of his ward's former condition. Or maybe this is his merit - after all, it was with Grubben that Bjoerndalen spent the most fruitful period of his career, from 2000 to 2010.

Sunneve Sulemdal in the coming season will be harder than anyone else. Now coaches look at her as a hope, and competitors - as a dangerous rival, which means that there will be a difficult struggle with herself and her psychology. Personal communication with Sulemdal left a double impression on me. On the one hand, she seems to be a confident girl who knows her goal and the path to it, on the other hand, the excessive emotionality inherent in youth is not the best quality for a biathlete. Nevertheless, I want this bright star to cope with internal and external pressure and light up even brighter, because in women's biathlon there is a big problem with competition.

He continues to be the most unpredictable character in the Viking team, even reaching the age of Christ. True, in recent years he gradually began to lose his crown speed and finished last season without personal podiums. Lars continues to seek reserves in shooting, deciding in September to undergo vision correction surgery. The season will show whether she will give a result, but for now, the numerous fans of the Norwegian athlete are not prevented from believing in a miracle. He himself is also not discouraged and even before the operation he confidently beat the young at the summer national championship. Agree that without people like Lars and Frude Andresen, Norway will lose some of its attractiveness.

JOKERS

The fact that the Norwegian women's national team is gradually ceasing to be a team of one Tour Berger is due to its mentor Egil Jelland. The famous biathlete in the recent past helped open up Sulemdal last season, and now he continues to believe in another rising star, Eliza Ringen. At a young age, she was considered even more talented than Sunneve and surpassed most of her rivals in speed by a head. A serious illness and many years of uncertainty forced her to start all over again, but the preconditions for growth for the young Norwegian remain good. It's a pity that her sister Ada was never returned to the big biathlon.

While he is treating the consequences of his cold, his brother Johannes can take his place in the team. He is more in line with the classic image of the Norwegian biathlete, acting on the principle: I win on the track as much as I want, and I get as much as I can. The guy, who, by the way, has been in the junior category for two more years, has been training with men for the second season and is not at all shy about it. At the Blink festival, the prodigy gave such a rate of fire that he won a duel competition, shaming his wise uncles. After that, it was a sin not to flex your muscles and declare your goal for the season to get into the relay four.

The Norwegians also have their own red-haired beast in the women's team. In addition to the year of birth, a freckled face and a bucket of medals in all kinds of competitions of different ages, Johannes Boe and Hilde Fenne still have a lot in common. The main thing is the desire to declare oneself early, the lack of authority and the phenomenal speed on the track, which forms such confidence. Hilde also has an advantage over her brother: it is much easier to win a place in the women's team, and therefore she can start playing in the World Cup in December.

OTHER

Of the other changes in the Norwegian national team, it is worth noting the return to the squad after health problems of Alexander Us, who is not yet impressive at test starts, and the exit from the decree of Ann Christine Flatland. It will not be superfluous to recall that it was the Norwegian athlete Liv-Grete Poiret who first won the World Cup the very next season after the birth of a child. 22-year-old Bente Lanheim and Tiril Eckhoff will try to gain a foothold in the team on the second try. There are no significant losses in the Norwegian team, except for such a transition to cross-country skiing by Kari Hennesade Ey.

SUMMARY

The Norway national team can be the envy of any coach and federation leader. The team has several top stars who are able to bring gold medals from major international forums, promising youth for several years to come and the continuity of winning traditions over the decades. The only problem is injuries and illnesses, but these troubles are enough in any team. According to our forecast, the Norwegians will again win the team classification of the World Championship, having won at least three golds, and take one of two large crystal trophies.

I associate Norway with fjords, Vikings and skiing. I think this is the country that praises skiing the most. Including biathlon. True, Norwegian men are more famous in biathlon, but we will talk about them later - today's article is devoted to northern women. When people talk about Norwegian biathletes, they usually remember Tura Berger, Liv Grete Shelbraid, Linda Grubben, Tiril Eckhoff ... But a country with such ski and biathlon traditions does not have a list of interesting athletes limited to this list? Let's see the statistics!

The Norwegian women's national team is among the best biathlon teams of the World Cup:

Norwegian athletes are confidently second in the history of women's biathlon after German women. In personal races, even if we add the USSR and the CIS to Russia, we still don't catch up with the Norwegians. Who brought the Norwegians prizes in the World Cup races?

Most of the names do not say anything to inexperienced fans. With the leaders, everything is clear: Tura Berger and Liv Grete Shelbraid (aka Poiret). Who remembers Anne Lynn Elwebakk or Elin Christiansen? Few, I guess. In general, according to this table, we can conclude that the glorious traditions of women's biathlon are behind Norway: only three athletes who continue to compete finished in the top three at the World Cup. Let's try to figure it out, and immediately the dynamics of the women's national team of Novegia.

Today we have moved away from the usual practice of starting with the 1993/1994 season, because the Norwegian team had a lot of interesting things from the very first women's world cup.

The first World Cup was dictated by the Norwegians. Six people from this country finished in the top three in the World Cup races. And there were only 12 races. The schedule shows that only one season was definitely better for the Norwegians (though there were already 26 races in it).

World Cup winners in the 1987/1988 season:

Anne Lynn Elwebakk - 6 Elin Christiansen - 5 Helga Ovsthus - 2 Siri Grundnes - 1 Mona Bollerud - 1 Syunneve Toresen - 1

It is not surprising that two Norwegians at once became the best in the overall standings of the World Cup.

The next season, it was no longer possible to repeat the result, however, 9 athletes immediately finished in the top twenty:

Anne Lynn Elwebakk - 12 Elin Christiansen - 10Mona Bollerud - 10Sunneve Toresen - 9Sunneve Berntsen - 5Siri Grundnes - 3Hildegunn Mikkelsplass - 3Signe Trosten - 1Unnie Christiansen - 1

By the early nineties, Gret Nyckelmo and Hildegunn Mikkelsplass had joined the leaders of Elvebakk and Christiansen.

But competition in women's biathlon intensified, and this led to the fact that in the 1992/1993 season the Norwegian women's team did not win any world cup medals.

The decline in the Norwegian women's team lasted until the 1995/1996 season. By that time Nykkelmo, Elvebakk and Christiansen had gone, but the sisters Shelbraid, Annette Sikwelland and Hun Magrit Andreassen were added.

Liv Grete Shelbraid - 17 Ann Helen Shelbraid - 15 Gro Marit Ystad Christiansen - 14 Hun Magritte Andreassen - 8

In the 2000/2001 season, Liv Grete Shelbraid became the leader of the team, and Linda Grubben began to approach the biathlon elite. This season has been one of the most successful for Norwegians.

Liv Grete Shelbraid - 19 Anne Helen Shelbraid - 13 Hun Magritte Andreassen - 10 Linda Grubben - 8 Gro Marit Ystad Christiansen - 7

After the 2001/2002 Olympic season, Liv Grete did not perform, and immediately there was a strong failure for the national team. The next season, Shelbraid competes again, and Norway is on the rise again.

But by the 2004/2005 season, the leaders of the team are changing, Tura Berger appears.

Linda Grubben - 16 Tura Berger - 15 Gro Marit Ystad Christiansen - 15 Liv Grete Shelbraid - 11 Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 3 Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 1

After Liv Grete leaves, Linda Grubben becomes the leader of the national team. But even with Linda's departure, the team found leaders who could replace her in the 2007/2008 season:

Tura Berger - 19 Solveig Rogstad - 12 Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 8 Julie Bonnevie-Svenssen - 6 Ann Ingstadbjörg - 3 Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 2 Hun Magrit Andreassen - 1

The same thing was preserved in the next season 2008/2009:

Tura Berger - 23 Julie Bonnevie-Svenssen - 11 Solveig Rogstad - 7 Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 3 Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 2 Ann Ingstadbjörg - 2

In the Olympic season, the team's results sagged again, but Tura Berger brought her team the first Olympic gold in individual races. Here are all the top 20 hits for that season:

Tura Berger - 14 Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 10 Liv-Kjersti Eikland - 1 Syunneve Sulemdal - 1

Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland comes in a solid second place.

After a couple of seasons, the national team was completely rejuvenated, Eckhoff, Ringen, Birkeland appeared. Season 2011/2012:

Tura Berger - 24Sunneve Sulemdal - 19Elise Ringen - 6Fanny Hurn Birkeland - 3Tiril Eckhoff - 2

The 2012/2013 season was completely won by Tura Berger, who finished 19 times in the top three. The promising Sulemdal was never able to become a top athlete, Flatland just returned from maternity leave.

Tura Berger - 25 Tiril Eckhoff - 9 Syunneve Sulemdal - 9 Fanny Hurn Birkeland - 5 Ann Christine Aafedt Flatland - 4

In the 2013/2014 Olympic season, despite the fall in the results of the Berger Tour, Flatland returned to the previous level, Eckhoff and Sulemdal were able to compete for medals. At the end of the season, all four athletes did not remain without prizes. And in the top twenty, the Norwegians finished a record 72 times.

Tura Berger - 23 Tiril Eckhoff - 18 Anne Christine Aafedt Flatland - 10 Fanny Hurn Birkeland - 7 Syunnöve Sulemdal - 6 Elise Ringen - 5 Martha Olsby - 2 Hilde Fenne - 1

After Tura Berger left, they succeeded only 22 times. Season 2014/2015:

Eckhoff has grown into a team leader, a medal-winning level, Olsby. Season 2015/2016:

Tiril Eckhoff - 13 Marthe Olsby - 9 Fanny Hurn Birkeland - 7 Hilde Fenne - 3 Syunneve Sulemdal - 3 Kaya Voyen Nikolaissen - 2

In 2016/2017, only Eckhoff and Olsby performed at the top level:

In this way, compared to German or French women, Norwegians look much more modest. Their leader Eckhoff has not yet been able to spend the entire season at a consistently high level. But for the Norwegians says Eckhoff's ability to approach the main starts, a possible breakthrough Olsby or Tandrevold. Or maybe Caroline Erdal will be mature enough for the main team. It is also interesting whether the Norwegians will be able to collect a battle-worthy relay race for the Olympics.

In general, the Norwegians did not perform very well at the Olympic Games. Here is a list of all medal winners in individual races:

We see only three names in it. The Norwegian leaders of the 80s did not have time to get in optimal shape at the 1992 Olympics, the first for women. The home Olympiad in Lillehamer came on a generational change. In 1998, the Norwegians were able to carry out strong only in the relay. The first personal medal was won by Norwegians only in 2002. Here is a list of the Norwegians' medals from the Olympic Games:

KM biathlon stage in Norway: the fight for the podium in the overall standings intensifies | Biathlon

MOSCOW, 15 March - RIA Novosti, Elena Vaytsekhovskaya. The eighth stage of the World Cup will begin on Thursday in the most iconic of biathlon venues - Holmenkollen, Norway. On the first day, there will be two sprint races, and on March 17 and 18, biathletes will compete in relay races and pursuit.

Great changed his mind?

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen

The current stage in Holmenkollen could be historic. During the season, it was said a lot about the fact that it was here, when the main start of the season - the Games in Pyeongchang - is behind, eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who turned 44 in January, will finally say goodbye to sports. But Bjørndalen failed to qualify for the Olympic team.

Then it was planned that he would return to the location of the national team at the stage in Holmenkollen, but only as a substitute. And only the sudden malaise of the four-time Olympic champion Emil Hegle Svendsen allowed the Norwegian veteran to return to the combat composition of the team already in Kontiolahti, Finland. There, Ole Einar performed without much brilliance: despite impeccable shooting in the sprint, he became only 12th, in the relay races (mixed and single mixed) he did not find a place, and in the mass start the biathlete finished 28th, making the distance six misses.

Bjørndalen spoke out against the boycott of the Biathlon World Cup stage in Tyumen >>>

In an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Bjørndalen said that he has enough motivation to run until the age of 50: “My goal was to get to the Olympics in optimal shape, but I did not manage to get to the Games. Now I am tuning in for the upcoming starts. motivation to compete until age 50. So next season will start all over again. " A little later, in an interview with NRK, the biathlete said that he would make a decision on his future career after the end of the current season, which will end for him with the final start of the World Cup in Tyumen.

Still without Akimova

Russia is fourth in the men's Cup of Nations (Norwegians are in the lead) and fifth in the women's (the first are Germans).

The composition of the Russian team in Holmenkollen is as follows: Anton Shipulin, Anton Babikov, Maxim Tsvetkov, Dmitry Malyshko, Evgeny Garanichev, Matvey Eliseev, Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht, Daria Virolainen, Ulyana Kaisheva, Victoria Slivko, Svetlana Mironova.

Tatiana Akimova

The composition of the Russian national team in Holmenkollen will be the same as it was in Kontiolahti, where the only force majeure replacement was the castling of Alexander Loginov - Malyshko. For Malyshko, this appearance in the main squad was the first, before that he played in competitions as part of the reserve team, and in the only personal race of the stage, the sprint, he finished 26th. In the same place, the athlete conducted intensive training work with a specially arrived Anatoly Khovantsev, so it may well be that in Holmenkollen, Malyshko will be more convincing.

Biathlete Akimova will not perform at the World Cup in Norway >>>

Tatyana Akimova will not appear in the women's team at the Norwegian stage. The biathlete tried to suppress all speculation that the coaches of the national team punish her for being too harsh about them at the Olympic Games and therefore not being attracted to the national team.

“I really got sick,” Akimova wrote on Instagram. “I want to explain the situation. I missed the stage in Kontiolahti on purpose and was preparing to go to Oslo. But, unfortunately, I got sick. Due to the temperature, I missed several days of training - apparently, some kind of virus. There is no need to look for any other reasons here. I am doing everything to quickly recover and return to duty, but it takes time. I don’t want to give any predictions yet. I sincerely wish good luck to our entire team in the upcoming stage. "

Shipulin: fourth attempt

Anton Shipulin

The only Russian athlete for whom the starts in Norway are really important is the Sochi Olympic champion in the relay Shipulin: he is third in the overall World Cup with 568 points. If Anton manages to maintain the “bronze” position, he will become the winner of the overall World Cup standings for the fourth time in his career, which no other Russian biathlete has managed.

Shipulin climbed to third place in the overall KM biathlon standings after the 7th stage >>>

The five-time Olympic champion Martin Fourcade is in the lead in this race (888 points). Norwegian Johannes Be, however, has a chance to catch up with the Frenchman - he has 845 points.

In the same way, the three-time Olympic champion Anastasia Kuzmina (613) keeps the chances of catching up with the leader of the overall women's standings, Kaisu Mäkäräinen (666). Despite the fact that the heroine of Pyeongchana is now going through a completely obvious recession, the difference between her and the Finnish woman in pursuit of the large Crystal Globe is not critical. Dorothea Wierer (568) is in third position after seven stages of the Cup, but her position cannot be envied: only two points behind her are two-time Pyeongchang champion German Laura Dahlmeier, and it will be very strange if she does not remove the Italian from her path even before the end of the stage in Holmenkollen.

The Norway National Biathlon Team is ... What is the Norway National Biathlon Team?

Norway National Biathlon Team - represents Norway at international biathlon tournaments. One of the most titled national teams in the world.

Olympic Games

In terms of the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won at the Olympic Games, Norway is second only to the national teams of Russia and Germany. Traditionally, the men's team has achieved more success on the world stage than the women.

The first medal for Norway was won by Olav Yordet in 1964 (2nd Winter Olympic Games, where biathletes took part). The first gold medal was won already at the next Olympiad by Magnar Solberg. At five Olympic Games from 1976 to 1994, the Norwegians were unable to win a single medal, with the exception of the 1984 Games, where Norway won each medal.

In 1998, Norway made a breakthrough, after three medless games, 5 awards were won, two of which became gold. Women won their first medal, bronze, in the relay.

In 2002, Ole Einar Bjørndalen became the undisputed Olympic champion, bringing the team 4 gold medals, the women in the relay won silver, and Liv-Grete Poiret became the first Norwegian to win a medal in the individual race. Total - 6 medals.

In Turin, in 2006, Norwegian athletes repeated the achievement of the previous Olympics, also 6 medals, but there is no gold medal among them. Women could not get on the podium.

in Vancouver, in 2010 Norway won 5 awards, three gold and two silver. Gold was brought to the team by Emil Hegle Svendsen, Tura Berger and the men's relay team.

In terms of the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won at the Olympic Games, Norway is second only to the national teams of Russia and Germany. Traditionally, the men's team has achieved more success on the world stage than the women.

 • The first medal for Norway was won by Olav Yordet in 1964 (the second Winter Olympics, where biathletes took part).
 • The first gold medal was won in 1968, at the next Olympiad.
 • At five Olympic Games in a row from 1976 to 1994, the Norwegians were left without medals: the only exception was the games in Sarajevo, where Norway won a medal of each value.
 • In 1998 Norway made a sudden breakthrough, winning 5 awards, two of which went gold. The women won their first medal - bronze in the relay.
 • In 2002, the then rising star of the Norwegian biathlon, Ole Einar Bjørndalen, became the absolute Olympic champion, bringing the team 4 gold medals, the women in the relay won silver, and Liv-Grete Poiret became the first Norwegian to win a medal in the individual race. Total - 6 medals.
 • In Turin in 2006, Norwegian athletes repeated the achievement of the previous Olympics: they also won 6 medals, but there were no gold awards among them, and women were left without medals at all.
 • In Vancouver in 2010, Norway won 5 awards, three golds and two silvers. Gold was brought to the team by Emil Hegle Svennsen, Tura Berger and the men's relay team.
 • In Sochi, in 2014, Norwegian biathletes brought 6 Olympic medals to their national team: three gold, one silver and two bronzes. In the first men's sprint, 40-year-old Ole Einar Bjørndalen sensationally won his seventh Olympic victory. In the men's mass start, the photo finish nominated Emil Hegle Svennsen as the winner. The third gold was won in the mixed relay by the efforts of Tura Berger, Tiril Eckhoff and all the same Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Emil Hegle Svennsen. Bjørndalen, 40, won his 13th Olympic medal in his career, something that no other man has ever achieved in the Winter Olympics.
