There are at least two serious reasons why you need to hide the worn and worn old sofa upholstery with a new cover. It protects the factory upholstery fabric from wiping and contamination. And the desire to change the setting, style and design idea premises.

We sew a blanket on the sofa with our own hands

Compared to cabinet furniture, upholstered furniture wears out much faster. The colors fade, the fabric fades and fades, and the look is dull. In this case, it is not necessary to throw away old sofa or a chair and buy new things. On your own you can reanimate old thing and give her a second life. There are different ways to do this.

You can change the upholstery fabric. This is a laborious process, but the result is almost new furniture. Replacing the upholstery requires experience and special skills, so not everyone can do this at home. In some designs, the metal mechanism for raising and lowering the backrest will not allow changing the upholstery at all.

A good solution would be to sew a bedspread that will hide all defects of worn upholstery. This option will be much cheaper for the family budget, and the thing done with my own hands, will be more functional and easier to operate.

Why is it better to sew a blanket with your own hands?

How to sew a blanket on a sofa with your own hands

There is an extensive assortment of ready-made blankets, capes and bedspreads on sale, but it is not always possible to choose the one that is necessary and suitable in size, color and quality of the material. From such a situation, a good way out would be self-production necessary things with your own hands. Instead of measuring the dimensions of finished bedspreads in stores, to match the parameters of your sofa, you need to choose a fabric that will fit the interior of the room and will meet the requirements for color and quality.

The choice of fabric for the bedspread

The most common fabrics from which you can sew a bedspread yourself are the following:

Fabric calculation

How to sew a do-it-yourself cover for a sofa

Before purchasing the selected fabric, you need to take the dimensions of your sofa and determine the amount of material. When calculating, add a margin for allowances of at least 5 cm on all sides of the parts. If a cover is provided for the entire sofa, including the sides, armrests, pillow and ottoman, then a sufficient amount of material for standard width 150 cm is defined as the sum of the length and width of the sofa multiplied by two. This amount is enough for a bedspread on a sofa of any design. If there are several pillows, then the calculation must be adjusted. The same rule applies when calculating the need for fabric for a bedspread on a chair.

In case of non-standard width of the material or when making a coverlet from the remnants of fabric from other products, draw the layout of the parts on paper to scale and make sure that there is enough material for sewing.

Cutting and sewing

Do-it-yourself covers for armchairs and sofas

There are several basic ideas for decorating a room with sofa covers and armchairs.

  • The easiest option is to use the selected fabric without cutting parts and stitching. You need to fold the edges twice and sew along the perimeter of the piece of material. The blanket obtained in this way is spread on the surface of a sofa or armchair like an ordinary cape. The advantage of this option is ease of manufacture and convenience if necessary to remove for washing. The disadvantage will be the formation of folds in the corners and at the joints of the side of the sofa with the back and seat. To make it less noticeable, you should choose a thin fabric. Then the folds can be tucked in manually between the sofa or armchair parts. You can make several of these bedspreads and easily change them as you wish.
  • You can sew a coverlet with minimal effort without cutting, if you make grooves on the fabric in places that will cover the corners. The edges are folded twice and sewn onto sewing machine.
  • Fringe or fringes, hanging along the bottom perimeter of the bedspread, look very nice. These embellishments may be of different fabrics and vary in color. Much more material will be required than for the usual version.
  • Tapestry bedspreads look beautiful without any additional decorations. It is recommended to sew them according to the pattern, and not to use them as a cape. Tapestry bedspreads are perfect for a sofa or armchair in a living room.
  • To prevent the coverlet from slipping and staying better on the sofa, an increased allowance should be made around the perimeter. At the corners, tie the excess fabric with a ribbon or braid, making beautiful knots that will serve as a fastener and decoration at the same time.
  • Sewing a cover for a custom sofa design is much more difficult, since each part of the structure will have to be covered with a separate cover. The slip-on option can be used, but it is advisable to choose a thin fabric for this. Then the surplus on the folds can be “packed” into the joints of the sofa or armchair parts.
  • It would be logical to choose the fabric of the bedspread for the children's sofa with the colors and patterns of the children's theme, calm shades. The material should not be hard or prickly. Fabrics that tend to build up static electricity and attract dust are not suitable. It should be noted that a baby blanket will require more frequent washing and cleaning, therefore, when choosing a type of fabric, you should focus on materials that can withstand multiple washes.
  • It is advisable to attach a drawstring to the lower edges of the fabric, into which the elastic is passed. This allows the sofa to fit more tightly. An elastic band will be relevant with a strict style of bedspreads without decoration with fringes, ruffles and folds.
  • Decorative pillows made of the same material as the bedspread are a good decoration. For a baby sleeping sofa, you can decorate your child's favorite toys in the style of a bedspread or cape.

The choice of the design of this or that living space is a fascinating activity, and cute and pleasant things made with your own hands give it originality and uniqueness. If a needlewoman is in charge of the house, then a knitted bedspread can become such an exclusive, which will decorate and give a special chic to the sofa.

A beautiful and delicate bedspread, knitted, adds zest to the interior

Handmade light green sofa cover

Recently, handicrafts, or, as they are often called in the English manner - hand-made, are increasingly attracting attention. And it is quite understandable: the days are gone when people were engaged in knitting in order to dress their household members, or even earn a little. Today this aspect of knitting has not disappeared, but needlework has ceased to be only a source of income.

Plaid knitted perfectly fit into the interior of the country house

Making crocheted or knitting products allows you to:

  • choose the most suitable shape models of the appropriate size;
  • independently decide on its color scheme;
  • always keep up with the times, making the most fashionable things;
  • to make an exclusive bedspread with an original knitting pattern;
  • not have a strict time reference;
  • purchase material for work of the required quality and in the required quantity.

This is not limited to the advantages of products made by home craftswomen with their own hands. An important aspect is the significant savings in their manufacture.

Determining the design and construction

Knitted blanket for a minimalist room

Here needlework has always been a favorite pastime of many women, and if you dig into history, you can be sure that knitting is one of its most favorite types. Confirmation of this is not only knitted hats, scarves, mittens and sweaters, but tablecloths and napkins with the finest patterns, as well as warm blankets and knitted bedspreads, distinguished by their beauty and practicality.

Plaid made in a single color, which is convenient for color composition interior items

Among the products that you can knit with your own hands, there are several types:

  • small light bedspreads;
  • blankets for the chair;
  • thick children's bedspreads;
  • products made of thick yarn for sofas and beds.

Council. Getting started knitting, you need to soberly assess your skills in this matter. If a novice craftswoman takes on work, you should not set yourself very difficult tasks, for example, knitting a bedspread on a large sofa or a double bed - it may remain unrealized due to the difficulty of its implementation. There may not be enough strength or skill here.

However, there is no reason for despair: in such a situation, it is better to start with a small bedspread for a crib, armchair or small sofa.

Small children's plaid mint color handmade

The choice of the degree of complexity of the products depends on the skill of the craftswoman, but the most difficult thing will be making a large blanket for a sofa from thick yarn. In this case, the pattern is not even important: the knitting itself will be very difficult due to large sizes and weight.

Knitted blankets are unusual: they are not found in every home, they can often be called masterpieces of design art

Necessary materials

To knit a blanket on a sofa, you need to prepare materials that will be used in the work, the main of which is yarn. You can knit a product from:

  • wool;
  • cotton yarn;
  • linen;
  • silks;
  • synthetic fiber.

Yarn for blankets can be absolutely any, but without the addition of a metallized thread

The choice of material directly depends on the functionality of the product, and its volume depends on the chosen knitting method and pattern.

If decoration is planned in the future, finishing material will be needed.

Attention! Do not use old yarn to make a large bedspread; the frayed surface of the yarn will give the garment a messy look.

Beautiful multi-colored yarn and DIY plaid tools

Required tools

The main tools are, of course, a hook or knitting needles. On sale they are presented from various materials:

  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • bone;
  • wooden.

Large selection of knitting needles for knitting a variety of products

"Correct" knitting needles have their own characteristics: they must be well polished and not have too sharp ends, so as not to injure your hands. At the same time, it will not work to knit a quality product with blunt tools, as well as uneven ones.

If the knitted bedspread is made of light yarn, you can use plastic or bone knitting needles: the heavy material will bend them.

They differ in material, numbers and shape: for different products - their own. The numbers correspond to the diameter of the knitting needle: No. 3 - 3mm, No. 6 - 6mm and are directly related to the thickness of the yarn - should exceed it by 2 times.

In addition to knitting needles, other tools may be needed.

An iron, notebook and drawing accessories can be useful for decorating patterns and drawings.

Manufacturing process: step by step instructions

Spectacular and unusual model, accessible even for beginners

It is better to knit a blanket not with a solid cloth, but with stripes or squares, which are knitted separately.

After the bedspread model is selected and the materials are purchased, you must:

  • examine the drawing;

We collect loops on the lower right square of the bedspread

  • tie a small sample of the pattern, picking and securing the loops, in accordance with the diagram;

We knit 2 rows until there are 2 stitches left to the marker, we knit them together with the front one, we also knit the next 2 loops together with the front one and continue knitting until the end of the row

  • dial the number indicated in the scheme, remembering that the first and the last are not included in the account;

The 3rd row and the rest of the purl rows are knit

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until there are 2 loops on the needles, cut the thread, leave the tail of medium length

  • knit each row, strictly following the pattern;

2nd square will join the left edge of square 1

We collect loops around the edge of the square and the same amount

  • connect the strips of the product by sewing or knitting connections;

We knit the 1st (purl) row with the front ones, and then we continue knitting in the same way as we knitted the 1st square

We continue knitting motifs similarly to square 2

  • after finishing work, process the edges.

The final stage is decoration

To give the product a finished look, after completing the work, you can start finishing. This is an obligatory procedure, because the blanket must be beautiful and durable. You can arrange it, guided by your taste.

Some craftswomen use various fabrics for decoration, which are placed along the edge of the product or on certain sections of its surface, as well as on the seamy side. In the latter case, the bedspread will not be in direct contact with the body or bedding.

  1. About fabric
  2. Stitch
  3. From rags
  4. Blanket for the couch

Sew a blanket with your own hands on upholstered furniture means saving money not only one-time (prices for stylish bedspreads in stores cause tetanus), but also in the long term - a bed, sofa or chair under the bedspread will last much longer. Not the least important here is the possibility of creative self-expression: a unique and inimitable product in the house is a sign of the skill and good taste of the owners.

Furniture covers are of varying degrees of complexity and complexity. It is best to start protecting furniture and giving it its identity from the bed. It is easier to sew a bedspread on the bed with your own hands, and it also expresses the mastery of the hostess in all its glory thanks to the large visible surface. At home, having at your disposal sewing machine and an ordinary tool for needlework, it is possible to sew bedspreads and lush, pompous, and laconic-elegant, see fig.

The use of modern textile materials (see below) allows you to bypass the main difficulty of sewing bedspreads at home - the large size of the finished product. The bedspread 2x2.5 m can now be sewn without a cutting table and other sewing production equipment, see eg. video in 2 parts:

About fabric

Another way is color sorting, i.e. you need to disassemble the rags by color, say, in 4 tones, spread them out so that everyone is in sight, and sew, smoothly moving from color to color (see the figure on the left). In this case, a supporting base is not required. The flaps are sewn from the inside out, the folds are turned to the sides, the seams are ironed. The prefabricated piece is cut to size and the coverlet is sewn with an inversion, see above.

A much more spectacular coverlet made of shreds can be sewn using the technique of chaotic geometric assembly, it is also a patchwork-kaleidoscope. It is named so because the principle of a kaleidoscope is used: a chaotic enumeration of any random fragments gives a pattern that seems to have some meaning. First, the fabric ribbons are sewn into strips (pos. 1 in the next figure). There can be 2-7 or more ribbons in a strip. The ribbons are not necessarily solid, they can be sewn from small pieces selected according to the color tone and cut to size according to the width. The width of the entire strip W is taken from 25-50 cm so that it fits an integer number of times along the width of the cover.

The next step is to cut squares from strips using a template made of cardboard, plywood or hard plastic, pos. 2. Cut with a fabric roller cutter. Be careful with him, he's as sharp as a safety razor! The cut squares are laid out with edges, and then the squares are piled up and mixed well - for chaos. Without this, the pattern will be boring. Next, stripes are sewn from the squares as long as the width of the bedspread (pos. 3) and sew them together. The end result is something like the one in pos. four.

If you allow some overuse of material, then the pattern of a chaotic geometric patchwork can be made more playful. To do this, you already need a template in the form of a square (pos. 5), and the original strips of tapes with a width of 1.5 W. The template is placed on the strip with a turn at an arbitrary angle; you can - fixed, say, 15, 30 and 45 degrees, as in pos. 6. After mixing, each flap can lie in the strip for the blanket in 4 positions, corresponding to a turn of 90 degrees, pos. 7. The result is a front surface similar to the one in pos. 8. Of course, the principle of ordered assembly is applicable here, but then the angles of rotation of the template should be fixed.

Note: it is easy to move from the technique of "striped chaos" to the technique of ordered geometric assembly. To do this, the overlapped squares are laid out until the desired pattern is obtained. Parts for sewing bedspreads are taken from the layout one by one. It is easier to go from an ordered geometric assembly to an exploded assembly, and it has many outstanding patchwork patterns. Samples covered with a patchwork of an ordered geometric assembly, see next. fig.

Patchwork with a cookie

So clothing designers sometimes secretly call names among themselves very beautiful and original bedspreads, the store prices for which are simply insane. Nevertheless, the "indecent" blanket is quite within the power of beginners - there is a lot of manual work in it, but it is simple.

The consumption of fabric for a "cookie" (actually - a nodular, nodular patchwork) bedspread is added to the size of the bed in terms of half the width of the cut. Then the cut is cut into squares (see above); no need to nest the edges !. Further, see fig. after the list:

  1. In the center of each square, according to any round rigid pattern with a diameter of 7-15 cm, outline the knot (fig) with a marker for fabric;
  2. The contour of the knot is swept live with a thread, leaving tails of 20-25 cm;
  3. The knot is pressed. Just for fun: the "cookie" cover is even more indecent than it seems, since it is most convenient to form a "cookie" with the middle finger. The knot is either left unfilled (this is the fig), or after covering (next item), its top is pressed, sewn on - a rose is obtained - or before the covering is inserted into the knot a lump of synthetic fluff, a ball or a cake made of holofiber;
  4. The knot is tight, the ends of the thread are firmly tied and cut;
  5. Straighten the folds (see also below);
  6. For stitching into strips, and stripes into a blanket, the parts are fastened with pins, which are removed as the fabric moves under the machine's foot.

Forming folds

To make the nodular coverlet look better, the folds of its fragments need to be more or less regularly dispersed. To do this, you need a square template with a side in the width of the strip minus the diameter of the contour for the knot plus 2-4 cm. Each side of the template is marked with markers in 4 equal parts. Details with ready-made knots are applied to the template, folds are pressed to the marks and swept with 3-4 stitches. As a result of sewing, the bedspread will look like approx. such as on the right in Fig.

Patchwork and jeans

It is unlikely that bags of old jeans are lying around at home, so the material for a denim patchwork should be saved. The simplest way To do this, cut jeans into rectangular patches with sides divisible by 6 cm. Real jeans are not sewn to fit and have never been sewn. Their inventor Levi Strauss did not have a staff of qualified cutters, so the cutting grid module took an extremely large one - 2 and 1/3 inches, or 5.92 cm. Matching the initial and cutting modules for flaps will give the least material waste. Denim is a durable fabric, so 0.92 cm is enough for cutting and turning the seam, this gives a comfortable working module of 5 cm.

Jeans are not only durable, but also a warm fabric, so it is best to sew a denim coverlet in one layer, without lining and padding, then it will fit in an apartment, and to a summer cottage, or for a picnic. There is no need to overcast the edges of the denim patch. It is advisable to disheve the cuffs of the seams (see fig.), This will give 2 styles of bedspread design, because The reverse side and face of the jeans are not very different in appearance. Replacing them is elementary: either one or the other side up.

Shred the edges of the jeans with a steel brush, bending the product along the shredded seam so as not to damage the base fabric. Welding (metalwork) brushing is needed, with rare bundles of straight wires (see the figure on the left). Power tool cleaning brushes with a continuous comb of fine twisted wires will entangle and tear the fabric.

If jeans are not enough

But what if there is not enough denim for the bedspread? Denim patchwork sets are on sale, but their prices are in line with demand. If you need to buy no more than 40% of the material by area, then a blanket from old jeans can be sewn by adding to the jeans a cotton fabric similar in properties - coarse calico, bikes, flannel. In this case, the squares from the jeans must be cut so that the warp and weft are oriented diagonally (bottom left in the figure), otherwise the jeans will pull the weaker fabric along.

The rest is clear from the rice: denim squares are framed with complementary fabric, these will be elements of the material. The elements are collected in 4 (2x2) or 9 (3x3) blocks in the first level blocks, which are also framed with complementary fabric. In the same way, blocks of the second level, the third, etc. are formed from the blocks of the first level until the required size of the bedspread is reached. It is also framed entirely with complementary fabric. The finished product looks very impressive, giving the impression of a 3D lattice, on the right in fig.

Blanket for the couch

It is already more difficult to sew a bedspread on a sofa, but in this case the problem of visible seams on the face disappears - they are easy to disguise in inner corners piece of furniture. In general, a sofa cover is sewn in the same way as a cover or a cape for furniture. Standard cutting - 8 pieces, no frills. The chair cover differs from it only in the width of the seat part.

How the patterns of the bedspread for the sofa are built is shown on the left in Fig. Above on the right is a sizing scheme for calculating fabric consumption, it will still be useful to us below. Details for armrests are made in a mirror image, in the case when the wrong side and the face of the main fabric are distinguishable in appearance. If the armrests are without collapse, but you want their fashionable prefabricated facades (bottom right), then the patterns of their parts in front need to be broadened (shown by a pale outline).

Note: it is better to first cut out the details of the sofa cover from newspapers, old sheets, etc. waste material and try on in place to accurately fit the curved contours.

Lazy but beautiful

Another option is to sew a sofa cover from one piece of fabric. Its width must not be less than dimension A in fig. higher plus 30-40 cm, and the length - to the sum of 2C + 2D + E + 40 cm size A is rarely less than 2 m. Fabrics with large widths per unit area are more expensive than standard widths. However, this option should be borne in mind not only for its simplicity.

A master class for making a sofa cover from one piece of fabric is shown in Fig. In the oval at pos. 3 - seams; they are marked in place after hand-wrapping. In the oval at pos. 4 - push pins with which the fabric is temporarily attached to the armrests. Back curtains (pos. 5) and gathering of frills (pos. 5, 6) are made in place; the latter with a wide elastic band for underwear. The undoubted advantage of this bedspread is that the sofa covered with it can stand not only against the wall, but also in the middle of the room; the wings at the back are quite decorative.

The interior of the bedroom should not only be sleepy, but pleasing to the eye in the daytime. How can this be achieved? Thoroughly approach the issue of bedroom decor. The choice of textiles is paramount here.

The snow-white bedspread will be the perfect complement to any interior!

The most important place in the bedroom is occupied by the bed, which means that its decor will attract maximum attention. How to make your bed attractive? Put an interesting blanket on it.

A handmade bedspread will fill the bedroom with coziness and warmth.

In stores, it is difficult to find a blanket that you immediately like, will naturally fit into the interior of the room, will perform the necessary functions. It is not always possible to order sewing of textile components of the interior in an atelier. therefore a great solution the question will begin to sew a bedspread on the bed with your own hands.

Sewing a bedspread is not difficult if you have the initial skills in cutting and sewing. After all, any blanket with an uncomplicated cut is a simple rectangle of fabric.

A baby blanket should be soft and pleasant in texture.

A regular piece of material of the required size must be processed in such a way as to obtain the desired result. The bedspread can be light, flowing, without lining, or thoroughly dense, with a stitch. In addition, a banal rectangle can be decorated: add a frill, ruffles, decorative stitching, embroidery, appliqué and get a unique bedspread.

The bedspread should be chosen based on personal preferences, the general style of the room, the purpose of this textile element.

Everyone chooses the style and design of bedspreads for themselves.

A great solution would be a double-sided bedspread. If at the same time the sides are made of a single fabric, then using it is extremely simple. There will be no need to worry about which side to place it on the bed. When turnovers from different pattern, then it will be possible to change the look of the bedroom according to your mood, covering the bed in different ways.

Choose the fabric that will only provide you with a comfortable feeling during use.

The bedspread, decorated with various decor (ribbons, lace, puffs, flounces), will give the room incredible coziness, create a romantic atmosphere. At the same time, the abundance of textile components in the lower part performs a practical function - it hides the bed frame.

A silk bedspread is stylish, fashionable and sophisticated!

A bedspread made of smooth satin, silk or tapestry will add sophistication to the room. Chic, pomp will add the use of shiny fabric, gilded decoration.

A bedspread with thick pile, made of wool, fur will perfectly cope with the task of additional insulation, give softness and comfort to the room.

A quilted bedspread will protect you from the cold, create a homely, well-groomed environment, an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

Complex models of bedspreads will require more effort and skill from the seamstress.

ADVICE. It is better for a craftswoman with minimal experience to choose models of bedspreads without frills, fabrics that do not require special treatment in work. An excellent option would be cotton, blended fabrics of medium density.

The better the fabric, the more pleasant it will be to use the bedspread later.

Choosing a color

The color scheme of the product should correspond to the style of the room, but it can be seasonal in nature, take into account the illumination of the room, its size.

The type of fabric for the bedspread should also be selected based on seasonality.

  1. The bedspread should not give the impression of contrast, unless it is a conceived design trick. In a small room, the bed should not be a bright spot, otherwise it can make the illusion of filling the entire space. It is better to choose a beautiful bedspread that is similar in color to the decoration and surrounding objects.
  2. The illumination of the bedroom, primary and secondary colors are also of great importance. It is preferable to dilute the gloomy atmosphere with a warm, light palette of shades. With good lighting, general warmth, it is possible to show great imagination in choosing the color of the bedspread.
  3. Cold shine, overflows are appropriate only in a large room, preferably in the summer. Otherwise the supposed chic will become an irrelevant farce.
  4. The variety of the interior is facilitated by fabrics containing patterns, the use of decorative elements in the decoration of the bedspread.
  5. Warm colors always bring freshness, create coziness. Pastel colors are able to visually expand the boundaries of the room.

Heavy bedspreads are best used in large bedrooms.

Getting ready to sew

When the choice of a model, type of fabric, color is made, it is necessary to determine what is needed in the work, and how to sew a bedspread on the bed with your own hands. The first thing to consider for sewing a bedspread is fabric consumption. To do this, you need to make simple measurements.

The delicate color of the bedspread always gives lightness to the whole room!

Determine the size of the bedspread

We calculate the consumption of fabric

For calculation the required amount the fabric needs to know its width. If it is 1.4 m, then for a bedspread on a double bed you will have to cut out 2 parts of the main canvas and grind them together. This is not always the case for the aesthetics of the finished product. Therefore, it is advisable to take care of the required width of the fabric in advance.

A lot depends on the choice of the initial cut pattern, try to find the perfect one for your bed.

It is easy to calculate the fabric for the upper part of the bedspread: you need to know the length, width, add a few extra centimeters to them. Fabric consumption for ruffled bedspreads should be accounted for in terms of folds, if required. If they are available, it is necessary to additionally multiply the strip length by 1.5.

Perfect and well thought out pattern for the bedspread - you just have to substitute your values.

With a fabric width of 2.8 m, 1 length of the product will most likely be sufficient. Ruffles in this case should fit into the rest of the fabric from the width. If the fabric is 1.4 m, then it is necessary to lay 2 lengths of the main fabric and the total length of all sides with a frill. In this case, the consumption of fabric is significant, and the quality of the bedspread will suffer due to additional seams.

Choose the fabric for sewing the bedspread that will be easier for you to work with during the sewing process.

We cut and sew

Having completed the preparation of the necessary materials, we proceed to the most important one - cutting blankets for sewing. The material chosen directly affects the complexity of the subsequent steps. With light, slippery fabrics (silk, satin), extreme care is required when cutting, subsequent sewing of the product. Forming the stitch will add additional difficulty.

You can decorate your bedspread with a neat ruffle, which will always add appearance your bed is elegance.

ADVICE. The presence of a complex pattern on the fabric requires precise adjustment of the elements in the process of cutting and sewing. The choice of a monochromatic material will greatly facilitate the work.

Patchwork quilts are more and more popular every year.

The best way to cut is to fold the fabric in half so that the length of the main fabric is half along the fold. Similarly, you can position the width. Then the fabric is thoroughly evened, chopped with pins. Carry out the cut exclusively on a flat surface, do not allow cutting of materials by weight.

Even a quilted bedspread can look different depending on the pattern you choose.

The frill does not have to be made in one piece. You can use the resulting tissue remnants. It is important that all typesetting stripes are cut out in the same direction (along or across).

To create a patchwork bedspread, select fabric cuts that match in color and texture.

If the bedspread assumes the presence of a lining fabric, they are cut out of the synthetic winterizer layer by analogy with the main details. In the process of stitching, they are connected into a whole bedspread. If there is a pattern on the fabric, it must also be taken into account when cutting.

Bright blankets for sleeping beds will always charge you with positive energy before going to bed.

Then the time comesgrind all the details together. Using a sewing machine, we connect the base of the bedspread with the frill. To do this, place the parts with the wrong side up, lay the seams along the edges. Do not forget to lay folds, if provided by the model. It is easy to sew a bedspread without unnecessary details. If there is a lining, insulation, all layers must be evenly folded together, then sewn.

The best way to create a patchwork quilt is from not very bright cuts of fabric.

ADVICE. It is better to pre-split additional parts with pins together with the main ones, or to perform manual basting seams.

If there is a stitch, sew the seams first, then sew the main elements. If there is no experience, it is better to sew the stitches by hand first.

For a baby blanket, you need to choose not only a pleasant color, but also high-quality natural material.

Trial version

When you don't have enough sewing experience, it is always scary to take on a responsible job. Especially if the choice fell on complex fabrics or models of bedspreads. In this case, an excellent option would be to sew a trial version with your own hands.

Everyone can create a beautiful bedspread with their own hands, the main thing is to recharge with a lot of desire.

This is a great way to create a beautiful bedspread from simpler materials, practice making even seams, folding folds, stitching, taking into account the pattern.

ADVICE. Good training option there will be a patchwork bedspread. This technique requires painstaking work, but it provides invaluable experience.

From the picture it is quite clear how the coverlet is simply made, but I still could not help but make adjustments.)))
The article described that the lower (purple) fabric completely covers the sofa from all sides, but it seems to me that this is superfluous - after all, it will not be visible at all, and it will have to be spent decently! In addition, such frills can be achieved in another way - simply by sewing the fabric "base" to the blanket in the missing places))) In general, like this:

There is very little work to make such a blanket. - cut the fabric to size, process the edges, insert eyelets and you can try on a new thing on your favorite sofa! As tie-rods, you can use cable ties with tassels for curtains, etc. (now there are full stores of this paraphernalia) at your discretion.

Before you start sewing the bedspread, it should be determined: with texture, color and how the finished cover should look like in the end: will it have a liner, bows, beautifully flowing frills or other additional elements.

When buying, it is better to take fabrics 30 cm larger.than necessary and wash it before opening it, in this case, you can be sure that the sewn bedspread will fit your sofa.

It is not difficult to sew a simple bedspread on the sofa with your own hands.

5:112 5:115

Before starting cutting, you need to prepare:

5:202

white chalk (or the old-fashioned bar of soap),

5:274 5:292

the longest ruler or tailor's centimeter,

5:397 5:415 5:431 5:445 5:448

For correct cutting, we measure the length, width and height of the sofa. Then we add the length and width dimensions, and add two height dimensions to the results obtained.

5:746

For instance, the length of your sofa is 192 cm, width is 153 cm, height is 42 cm, 192 + 153 + 42 + 42 \u003d 429 cm, to these dimensions we add 3 cm to the allowances (seams) to the length and the same to the width the resulting figure is the size required material and, accordingly, bedspreads.

5:1193 5:1196

Using a centimeter, measure and cut a rectangle to the required size. Fold the fabric around the edges and secure with pins, or simply sweep with loose stitches. Sew the seams on the sewing machine.

That's all! A cozy updated sofa is ready!
