- one of the most annoying insects that fly into the room from the street.

Fly flying around the apartment

In constant search of food, they circle the room, emitting an annoying buzz.

If it was not at hand to catch these flying insects, you can assemble it yourself from improvised means. Moreover, it will work no worse than a professional one.

Forbidding sign with a fly

How to make your own fly trap - the best designs?

How do you make a fly trap to actually work?

For this, it is important to be familiar with the habits, instincts of flying insects.

  1. Flies are in constant motion as they search for food. The insect will definitely react to the prepared tasty bait. As such, honey, overripe fruits, jam are used.
  2. Meat is of particular interest to flies, especially if it is not the first freshness.
  3. To organize the masonry, flies use deteriorated products, decomposing garbage. Given the presence of a good sense of smell, the device should be placed in places attractive to them.
  4. It is very difficult to catch a fly, since it has a wide-angle view and sees every flash well. But at the same time she safely sits on the surface, which has already attracted her relatives.

Conditionally homemade flycatchers can be divided into three groups:

  • filled with edible bait;
  • filled with poisons;
  • sticky.

It is possible to collect a trap from available means in a short time.

Plastic bottle

Before starting work, you need to prepare everything you need.

  1. plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5 liters;
  2. granulated sugar;
  3. overripe banana.
  • Measure from the bottom of the bottle about 2/3 of the height, draw a line. Then, using a sharp knife or scissors, cut the bottle into two parts: a large one and a smaller one. As a result, you should get a kind of tall glass, a small funnel with a neck.
  • Pour 1 tablespoon at the bottom of a large part of the bottle. granulated sugar so that it completely covers the entire surface.
  • Peel the banana, cut it into small pieces. The fruit must be fully ripe, overripe. Greenish bananas don't work.
  • Place the banana slices on granulated sugar and mash to form a fruit puree. The sweetness will be an excellent bait for flies that prefer to feed on organic matter that has begun to deteriorate.
  • After making the puree, pour warm water into the bottle, stir the mixture. The liquid should rise above the bottom of the bottle by about 3.5 - 4 cm. The combination of granulated sugar and warm water will accelerate the onset of fermentation, which will make this fly bait very attractive.
  • Twist the cap off the second, smaller part of the bottle. Now lower it with its neck down into a plastic glass with sweet bait, but so as not to touch the banana mass.

The bottle fly trap is ready to use.

Visual instructions for making a trap

You can use it for a week. The principle of operation is as follows: a fly, attracted by the smell of a fermenting banana mixture, crawls down to a narrow neck, goes down. The insect will not be able to get back.

If the device is slightly improved by wrapping it in paper, then it will attract mosquitoes.

The following composition is used as a filling sweet bait:

  1. any sweet liquid - jam diluted with water, sugar or honey syrup, cola;
  2. fermented liquid - for this, a few granules of dry yeast must be added to the prepared sweet filling.

Poisonous filler can be formulated if desired.

Ready fly trap

To do this, add (optionally) black ground pepper or granules of any insecticide, in particular, Agita, to the sweet content. Then the insects will not only be caught, but also die.

Metal can

A flycatcher can be made from a regular can, for example, in which was laid dog food.

  • Wash the container, remove the label from it, dry the jar.
  • Take scotch tape, cut a few pieces. It can be replaced with insulating tape. The pieces should be long enough to wrap around the prepared jar. Do not touch the sticky part. Otherwise, the trap will not work.
  • Wrap the jar with duct tape, sticky side down. Rub it all around with your fingers to keep the sticky layer on the metal.
  • Remove the tape. If the surface of the can does not stick well, then repeat the operation.
  • Glue a flashlight with ultraviolet light to the lid of the can, place it inside.

Place the jar on a flat surface, turn on the light. The flies will fly into the light, stick to the walls of the can.

Metal can as a fly trap

The trap, when it stops working, is disposed of, after taking out a flashlight.

A do-it-yourself fly trap for fruit flies looks simple:

  1. To the bottom of the glass plastic container put a sweet bait.
  2. Close container cling film, make several holes in it. Secure the film with adhesive tape to hold it.

Drosophila, reacting to a sweet smell, fall into a trap.

Sticky paper

If you want, you can make flypaper.

  • You need a large paper bag from which you want to cut the strips. Size: 2.5 cm width / 15 cm length. You will need about five to six strips.
  • Spread the tapes out on a horizontal surface. Take scissors, make one hole in the surface of the tape at a distance of 2.5 cm from the end. A hole punch can be used for this operation.
  • Cut the strings 15 to 20 cm long. You can use a thin string. There should be as many ropes as there are paper ribbons prepared.
  • Thread the ropes into the holes, tie the knots so that they do not fall out.
  • Mix granulated sugar, honey, water in equal proportions. Mix well and boil the sweet syrup. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  • Dip the prepared paper strip into the sticky composition so that they are saturated with syrup. Then lay the blanks on the surface of the parchment so that they can dry out.
  • Hang the strips in the selected places. To increase efficiency, the strips need to be hung in one place, i.e. group.

After the flies stop sticking to the surface of the strips, the traps must be thrown out. There is very little sticky syrup left on them and paper is no longer dangerous for insects.

Sticky Fly Traps

To resume the effect, re-wet the paper ribbons with sweet syrup.

Conclusion

Using homemade traps, it is necessary to dispose of them periodically, disinfect the container, and update the bait.

Video: Making a sticky fly trap at home

One of the most annoying and ubiquitous insects is the fly, which often flies into our homes. Sitting on a variety of surfaces and food, it carries on its paws a mass of pathogenic bacteria that can harm human health. The intrusive buzzing of an intruder often irritates us. However, not everyone can destroy the fast and agile fly with the help of a fly swatter. In this case, simple and convenient fly traps that you can make yourself will come to the rescue.

Simple homemade flycatchers

Before you start hunting flies, you need to determine what attracts them to our homes. First of all, these are products that are an optimal breeding environment and a source of nutrition. Slightly spoiled meat and fish with a smell will instantly attract the attention of flies seeking to lay their eggs. It is for this reason that most often we cannot do without such baits.

There are the simplest fly traps that can be made from scrap materials without having any special skills:

  • bait-based traps;
  • traps with poisonous baits;
  • sticky traps;
  • flycatcher-electroshock.

However, the process of creating an electroshock flycatcher is not simple and requires certain experience and professional skills.

Trapped by their plastic bottle

It is not difficult to make a flytrap from a regular plastic bottle. To attract the insect, an edible bait with a fragrant smell is used:

  • liquid jam;
  • coca Cola;
  • any sugar-containing liquid that has undergone a fermentation process. For this purpose, you can add a little yeast to sweetened water;
  • wine;
  • beer;
  • rotten fruits.

Council. Do not use meat and fish products as bait, the stench will quickly spread throughout the room.

To make a trap you will need:

  1. Cut the plastic bottle into two equal parts.
  2. Turn the upper part of the bottle, resembling a funnel, upside down and set in the lower part. In this case, the neck of the bottle should not touch its bottom. For best results, keep in mind that the ratio of the height of the top and bottom of the bottle should be 1: 2.
  3. To ensure the strength of the structure, secure the funnel using a stapler or tape.
  4. Pour liquid bait on the bottom of the bottle.
  5. Set up the trap where insects are most likely to occur.

Council. If you add ground pepper or any granular insecticidal preparation to the sweet liquid, it will turn into a poisonous bait for flies caught in the trap.

Glass jar trap

A similar trap can be made from glass jars and a plastic funnel:

  1. Take a jar suitable size, and put slightly rotten sweet fruits on the bottom.
  2. Turn the funnel over with its narrow end down and place it on the jar in the form of a makeshift lid.
  3. Secure the funnel with tape or tape, trying to seal all the cracks.

The jar can be placed near the trash can or on the windowsill, because flies always fly towards the light.

With the help of such a trap, you can catch not only flies, but also wasps and mosquitoes.

Plastic container trap

A small transparent plastic container can be useful for making a simple and reliable fly trap. For this purpose, you can use plastic cups or special containers for food:

  1. Place an edible bait on the bottom of the container.
  2. Tighten the top of the container with cling film, punching small holes in it with a knife.

The fly, sensing the smell of food, will try to penetrate into the plastic container through the holes in the film, however, the insect will no longer be able to get free.

Important! Try to dispose of the contents of the traps from time to time by removing captured insects and changing baits. Otherwise, such structures will become sources of unsanitary conditions.

Duct tape

Especially popular among fly hunters are sticky tapes.
Prepare a composition from the following components:

  • rosin or pine resin, previously melted in a water bath - 2 parts;
  • flaxseed or castor oil - 1 part;
  • sugar syrup or honey - a small amount for taste.

Actions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients listed.
  2. Using parchment, kraft paper, or oilcloth, cut the strips 3-4 cm thick.
  3. Apply the adhesive to the paper tapes.
  4. Hang the ribbons where insects are most concentrated.

Council. As an adhesive, you can also use a specialized glue ALT, designed to combat rodents.

"Folk" fly repellents - plastic bags with water

Another way to keep flies away from your home is to use plastic bags filled with water around doors and open windows. The inventor of this method is a Swedish citizen named Sten Lindqvist, who claims that the effectiveness of this method is comparable to that of mosquito nets.
To create this kind of bleach you will need:

  • transparent cellophane bag;
  • pure water;
  • several coins.

Actions:

  1. Pour water into the bag.
  2. Dip shiny small coins into the bag.
  3. Tie the bag tightly.
  4. Hang it from the side of the street near front door or an open window.

The principle of operation of such a device is based on the specifics of insect vision. Perhaps the sunlight hitting the coins through the water column blinds the flies, making your home invisible to them.

Video: the most harmless way to get rid of flies

However, reviews about the effectiveness of such a repeller are very contradictory.

On the weekend I went hunting with a friend on his estate, a huge wooden building (round timber), many rooms and living rooms. So, entering the living room, he butted his forehead on a transparent cellophane bag with water tied to the ceiling. On a silent question, a friend's wife explained that it scares off flies which are innumerable this winter. This she spied on in Spain in butchers, where they sell jamon. So what happened next showed that there were no flies in the rooms with packages, in others (without packages) they flew listlessly in sufficient quantities.

The Mythbusters in Season 10 (Episode 157) refuted the myth that a hanging transparent bag of water repels flies. They carried out a test, it turned out that the package, on the contrary, attracts!

CD Trap

Another option for a homemade trap is a device made from a regular CD and an adhesive base. To make it you will need:

  • CD;
  • A small piece of rope;
  • Honey or any other sticky and edible adhesive that can attract flies.

Actions:

  1. Pass a rope through the hole on the CD and tie it with a loop. With this loop, you can hang the trap anywhere.
  2. Apply honey or any other insect-attracting adhesive to the CD on both sides.
  3. Place the CD in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  4. After the sticky layer freezes, hang the trap where the flies congregate.

Council. If the room temperature is high enough and the sticky compound starts to melt violently, return the CD to the freezer.

How to make an electric fly trap

With certain technical skills, you can create more complex and effective trap designs at home. With the help of such devices, it is possible to catch various flying insects both indoors and outdoors.

Electric jump

Electric jump - homemade device, in which the light emanating from the light bulb acts as a bait, and the insect itself is drawn inward due to the operation of the fan.
To create such a trap, you need:

  • a small electric motor with a power of 10–20 W (for example, from any class III electric player);
  • an electric bulb with a cartridge;
  • two cans of various diameters;
  • aluminum plate 20x100 mm;
  • two thick plastic washers;
  • epoxy adhesive;
  • two strips of metal;
  • screws;
  • screws M4;
  • round wooden base;
  • trap pouch made of nylon stocking;
  • rubber ring;
  • power source, which can be a battery.

Electric pumping device diagram: 1 - rubber ring, 2 - electric motor, 3 - housing, 4 - fan, 5 - cover, 6 - suspension, 7 - strip-bracket, 8 - M4 screw, 9 - washers, 10 - nylon bag

Actions:

  1. Using a 20x100mm aluminum plate, cut out some of the fan blades. In the center of the plate, make a hole corresponding to the diameter of the motor shaft.
  2. Then install an improvised propeller made of two plastic washers on the shaft, while bending the fan blades at an angle of 45 degrees.
  3. For reliability, it is recommended to fix the "hub" using epoxy glue.
  4. Fix the lamp holder securely with the screws on wooden base round shape.
  5. Then connect it with a pair of metal brackets to the motor starter. Please note that the length of the strips should allow a gap of 50 mm and located between the motor shaft and the bottom point of the light bulb.
  6. We set the resulting structure to tin canby fixing it with M4 screws so that the fan itself is about 15 mm below the edge of the can.
  7. The base of the lamp holder is covered with a cover made from a second can. In this case, a gap of 50 mm should remain between the edges of the main body of the device and the cover. Thanks to him, the insect will see the bright part of the structure, acting as a light bait.
  8. Using a nylon stocking, make a trap pouch by putting it on the lower part of the body. A rubber ring can be used as a retainer.
  9. Connect the light bulb and motor to a power source by placing the unit under the ceiling of the room.

Flycatcher-electroshock

You can also use a homemade electric shock flytrap to kill flies indoors. To create such a device you will need:

  • housekeeper light;
  • high voltage module;
  • finger battery.

Actions:

  1. Initially, you should disassemble the light bulb, which may not be working. We leave the glass part of the lamp and the plastic cap.
  2. Drill two holes on the sides of the plastic base of the light bulb, one opposite the other.
  3. First, insert a soft aluminum wire and carefully wind it around the light bulb in one hole, and then in the other - the same wire, too.
  4. One of the wires coming out of the neon lamp must be connected to one of the aluminum rods.
  5. The remaining two free from each other outputs must be connected to the high-voltage module.
  6. For the convenience of using the device, it is desirable to connect the high-voltage module to the power source through a switch. To do this, a rectangular hole should be made in the plastic cap left after disassembling the light bulb with a sharp clerical knife. Install a button into it, after which you can insert the high-voltage module into the lid, unsoldering all the necessary wiring.
  7. Then you need to solder the battery to the high-voltage module, securely fastening it with electrical tape.
  8. To ensure a more reliable fixing, it is necessary to glue the high-voltage module to the plastic case using hot melt glue.
  9. Then put a neon tab with a high-voltage winding on the high-voltage module so that the two wires located in the product body and in the light bulb touch each other.
  10. To prevent killed insects from falling to the floor, you can attach a plastic cap to the top of the light bulb using hot melt glue.
  11. When you turn on the device, the neon light will light up, attracting a flying insect. A light touch will strike the fly with an electrical discharge.

Video: the process of creating an electroshock flycatcher

With a minimum of effort and money, it turns out that everyone can get rid of annoying flies from their home. Although the only disadvantage of such designs may be the lack of a guarantee of one hundred percent result, as well as an unaesthetic appearance.

Summer is the favorite time of the year for most people in our country. But there are also some unpleasant moments that appear with the arrival of warm days. And one of these moments is the invasion of flies and mosquitoes. They buzz unpleasantly and carry various diseases.

How to get rid of these harmful insects? Available from the store chemical agent... But there is plenty of chemistry in our life. There may be allergies to various aerosols, especially in children. Therefore, many people prefer homemade devices.

The main types of homemade traps

Bait. The principle of the bait is to lure the fly into an enclosed space from which it cannot escape.

Poison traps are similar in design to conventional baits, but their purpose is to kill insects, not just lure.

Electric shockers and electric shocks. Shockers kill insects with an electric shock. The nets attract flies with bright light, and then they are dragged into the trap by an impromptu fan.

Let's take a closer look at how you can make the most common fly traps with your own hands.

Plastic bottle

This is the easiest fly trap to perform. It is necessary to cut off the upper part, and pour a couple of glasses of water with honey diluted in it into the lower part. Mix well.

Can be applied alternative option bait - liquid jam, compote or beer. Turn the upper part of the bottle upside down and place it in the lower one.

The neck should be several centimeters above the water level. This design will not allow the pest to get out.

Glass jar with funnel

We take a medium-sized jar and place the bait inside (the options from the first example will do). We install a funnel on the neck of the can. You can start operating.

Both of these traps can be turned into poisonous by adding insecticide to the liquid bait.

Plastic container

This version of the do-it-yourself trap is suitable for fruit flies (another name is fruit fly), because they are small and, accordingly, can easily crawl into small holes.

In the container we put the favorite fruit fly delicacy - spoiled fruit. We cover with cling film so that it fits snugly to the edges, and we make several holes in it.

You can use a glass instead of a container. Basically, for fruit flies any trap will be effective if spoiled fruit is there as bait.

Trap for giving

If you are not lazy and spend a couple of hours of time, you can create it yourself effective trap for flies, which was used by European colonizers when they moved to Australia. She is different large size and high efficiency.

To make an Australian fly trap, we need wooden blocks, fine mesh metal grid, small studs or construction stapler, thin wire.

We make a cube-shaped frame from the slats. If you have an unnecessary square base stool, simply remove the seat from it and the base for the trap is ready. We tighten the side walls of the frame with a mesh and fix it with a stapler.

Above you need to build a lid from the net so that it is convenient to get the catch. Next, we make a pyramid from the mesh. Cut out four isosceles triangles (the base of the triangle is equal to the length of one side of the cube). We connect the sides of the triangles with a wire.

Cut off the top of the pyramid to form an “entrance” for flies. We fasten it along the perimeter of the bottom with a cone inward. Such a trap will be especially effective in the country where there are a lot of insects. You need to put a fragrant bait under it and wait.

The fly flies to the bait, and after eating, it tries to take off and gets inside. The fly does not know to fly out through a small hole. Her fate is sealed.

Velcro trap

To create such a trap, we need thick paper, liquid rosin, sweet liquid and castor oil. Cut the paper into strips of suitable width and length. We mix all the ingredients, heat up and apply the composition to paper.

If necessary, make a loop of thick thread. The Velcro is ready. Instead of this composition, you can use commercial insect and rodent glue.

Another variant of Velcro is an adhesive-backed CD. It is necessary to tie a loop to the disc, apply jam or honey to the surface and put in the freezer to make the composition more viscous.

Ultraviolet Flashlight Trap

You can make the Velcro more complex. To make it, you will need any unnecessary can, for example, a can.

We glue the outer surface with electrical tape, and then remove it so that a sticky layer remains on the surface. We attach a flashlight inside. Insects attracted by the light will stick to the jar. The option is suitable for small individuals.

Stun gun

We need a high-voltage module, an energy-saving light bulb (preferably a spiral shape), a battery, a switch, electrical tape, glue. We disassemble the light bulb into its components. We get the cap and flask. We don't need a plinth.

IN plastic cover cut a hole into which we pass the switch. We pass the module itself into the lid and solder it to the switch, the switch to the battery. We attach the module to the lid with hot melt glue.

The battery can be secured with electrical tape. Drill two holes in the cone, into which we pass a piece of aluminum wire. We wrap each one around the bulb so that they do not touch. We cut off the excess.

At the base of the bulb, from the inside, we see two wires. We connect one of them to the end of the aluminum wire. Inside the bulb there are two free contacts: the second end of the wire and the "native" wiring from the light bulb.

We connect the high-voltage module to these contacts. We put the lid on the cone. The shocker is ready. It needs to be hung in a place where insects accumulate.

Electric jump

Necessary elements for creating an electric pump: a small motor (10-20 W), a light bulb, two cans of different diameters, a battery, a round flat plate, an aluminum plate (2 x 10 cm), two metal strips, clamps (screws, screws, epoxy glue , rubber ring), nylon bag.

We cut out the blades from the aluminum plate and bend them, as for a fan. We make a hole in the center, put the blades on the motor shaft. We fix it with glue.

We fasten the bulb holder with screws to the board. We connect the cartridge with the motor starter. We place the structure in a jar of a smaller diameter and fasten it with screws so that the blades are a couple of centimeters below the edge of the jar. Cover the base of the cartridge with a second can.

We put on a nylon bag on the lower part of the device and fix it with an elastic band. We connect the battery. Done. Of course, electric fly traps are more difficult to implement, but their effectiveness is quite high.

You can give preference to one of the types, or you can apply several different homemade traps... An integrated approach will be more effective. However, when using any insect repellent, do not forget to keep clean and remove food from the table on time.

Photo of traps for flies with your own hands

Take an empty soda bottle. You can use an unnecessary bottle or buy a new one on purpose. Make sure there is no liquid left in the bottle and rinse it with warm water.

Cut off the top of the bottle. To do this, you need scissors. Puncture the hole in the bottle with the tip of the scissors (near the middle).

  • Puncture the hole, insert scissors into it and cut the bottle across. Cut off the top completely so that you have two pieces - a top with a lid and a long bottom.
  • Try to cut as straight as possible, otherwise the neck won't stick when you turn it over.
  • You can remove the top with a sharp knife, but try not to cut yourself. If you are making a trap with your children, it is best to use scissors.
  • Turn the bottle over. Insert the upside-down neck inside. If you cut it off carefully, it will fit completely inside.

    Connect the edges. The easiest way to do this is with a stapler 3-4 times along the entire diameter, leaving approximately the same distance between the staples.

    • If you are making a trap with children, staple the two pieces yourself. If you don't have a stapler, there are two more ways to join the edges.
    • Scotch tape or duct tape can be used, but the material must be waterproof. Wrap tape around the edges 3-4 times.
    • You can also use superglue or regular glue, but it should also be water-repellent. First, apply a little glue to the edges of the bottle, and then insert the upside-down neck inside. Use your fingers to push it down and press the edges. Keep the edges connected until the glue dries.
  • Make a mixture of sugar and water. Place five tablespoons of sugar in a saucepan. Place the pot on the stove. Spread the sugar evenly so that it completely covers the bottom.

    • Pour in enough water to cover the sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil.
    • Stir the mixture well. When the sugar dissolves in the water, you get a sweet liquid, but if the water boils, you get a syrup, that is, a more concentrated bait. Let the liquid cool slightly.
  • Spoon the liquid into the neck of the bottle. Try to smear the edges of the neck so that the flies stick to the sugar right at the entrance to the bottle.

    Use other baits. You can slice the apple and push the pieces down the neck. A piece of meat or a few tablespoons of aged wine will also work. You can simply mix the water with sugar or honey.

    Add vinegar. If you decide to use liquid bait, add a few tablespoons of vinegar, preferably white. This will deter bees and other unwanted insects.

    Place the bottle in the sun. This will speed up meat decomposition and make the bait more attractive to flies. This will also allow the liquid to evaporate, creating a substance that will attract insects. Praise yourself for the work you've done.

    One of the inhabitants of Australia decided to check how the device works, a drawing of which he took from old books. Inside the post you will find his detailed story about creating a fly trap from Australian colonialists, as well as an impressive "catch" (the view, of course, is not for the faint of heart).

    This is a dry trap, falling into which flies die from dehydration.

    I made it myself from boards and mesh in just a few hours and after 10 months of operation I can say that this is the most high-tech solution without the use of chemicals. At the end, you will see a visual result of her work and, I am sure, will be very surprised.

    Outwardly, the trap resembles a small wooden bedside table. The design of the trap must be transparent to sunlight, so its walls and lid are made of fine mesh mesh.

    The main secret of the design is the pyramidal bottom. Flies always fly up towards the light, so the bottom of the trap is made in the shape of a pyramid. The transparent mesh "deceives" the fly, no matter how ridiculous it may sound.

    I can’t resist not to spoil about its effectiveness. Guess how long it took for this to happen? You will find the answer at the end of the article.

    As you can already clearly see, the design of the flycatcher is quite simple, and it can be assembled from improvised means: the remains of a lining or timber, boards from an unnecessary fence, an old stool or even a bedside table.

    I got to work creatively and decided to make a fly trap so that it gave the impression of a professional.

    For this:

    First I developed a design on a computer.
    - I decided to use Australian red cedar as a material.
    - The walls will be made of stainless steel mesh.
    - The base pyramid will also be made from this mesh.

    The first thing to do is figure out what size of your frame you can have with your wood. In my case, this is a 40 × 40 mm bar.

    With the help of a grinder, I bring the wood to a normal state and proceed to making the grooves for installing the mesh.

    Note! The mesh can be screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws, but, again, I wanted to make a high quality flytrap, so I approach the process professionally.

    I set the saw depth to 12 mm, clamp the bar and make the first cut. Then I repeat the same operation on the other side of the timber so that they are at a 90 degree angle.
    - Again we recall our task - to make a professional model. Therefore, I arm myself with a plane and chamfer at the corners to give the legs a more noble look.
    - Then I process the wood with wax in order, firstly, to give more saturated color, and secondly, to protect it from moisture.

    Let's start creating the most important part of the flytrap - the pyramidal bottom. This process should be given maximum attention.

    When the mesh has been cut and curved, I turn over the body of the wooden flytrap and screw on the first element of the pyramid mesh. I repeat the same steps with the other three pieces of the mesh so that the top of the pyramid is inside the body of the trap.

    Later, once everything is dry, I cut out the top of this pyramid to create a larger hole.

    This is an important part of the job that affects efficiency:

    The hole is too small and the flies will not enter;
    - too big - and they will run away.

    Note! I cut the top of the pyramid down to 25mm.

    I bought brass hinges and a snap hook. Then he drilled holes for screws in the wood and screwed the hinges to the body and lid.

    Advice! You can make the bait yourself, or you can buy it in household goods stores. I do not specifically mention the names, since local manufacturers produce them for your area.

    And finally, the results of the work for the week - all seven days the flycatcher stood on the lawn near the gazebo, and the flies did not bother us at all.

    There were just a lot of dead flies. I even wanted to evaluate the result with mathematical precision, and for this I made some measurements:

    To begin with, I poured them into empty plastic containers.
    - Then I weighed it on an electronic scale. The result is 2.3 kg!

    Two and a half kilograms per week, and the flies died from dehydration and their weight was significantly reduced.

    Through simple calculations and intermediate weighing, I calculated that in just a week my flycatcher caught 1800 flies! Can you imagine how this whole crowd would spoil my rest, if not for the flycatcher?
