Steel wheels of passenger cars - the parts are quite durable. steel disc, made by stamping, cannot become unusable from time to time. The only thing is that with prolonged use, the paint is gradually scratched. To prevent the formation of rust, the discs are changed or repainted. We will tell you how to paint stamped wheels in the next chapter. Enjoy reading.

It is clear that it is best to clean the disc “to metal” before painting. In this case, only sandpaper (ISO P400-P1500) and, perhaps, a drill with a metal brush are used.

How to remove a layer of old paint

The problem is that it will take more than one day to complete such a cleanup. But, the result will please with its appearance:

Fully cleaned steel disc

In order not to waste time in vain, the surface is only cleaned of rust, then polished and degreased. " old paint'remains. This option is also considered acceptable. We list the stages of preparation “step by step”:

  1. Thoroughly flush the disc with water. To simplify the task, use a brush;
  2. Mechanical cleaning from rust;
  3. If necessary, you can use a rust converter: the product is applied, left for 2 hours, then the surface is sanded and cleaned. You can't use water!
  4. Degreasing (white spirit or solvent 646 is suitable);
  5. if the wheel has obvious defects.
  6. Application of two coats of primer with an interval of 20 minutes.

In the last step, a universal acrylic primer is used. These funds are sold in aerosol packaging.

Ground application

Note that phosphoric acid can act as a rust converter. And to dry the soil, if the finish layer is applied, you need a day.

It is important to know: once a mark has been made on the metal with sandpaper, water should not touch the surface in principle. Use organic solvents for cleaning.

The priming itself is the dress rehearsal for the painting process. To simplify these "processes", the disk can be installed on an inverted bucket. The coloring of the rim is then performed by turning the disk with the right side towards you. As you can see, everything is simple.

Perhaps, after applying the primer, you will have to work with sandpaper. Sanding with P1500 sandpaper is carried out already before painting, which is mandatory.

Coloring process

So we got to the most important thing. Consider how to properly paint stamped wheels, so that later you do not have to redo everything from scratch. In principle, there is nothing complicated in this process:

Applying paint to the rim

Of course, not everyone has an airbrush, as well as special equipment. Therefore, an overturned bucket, unnecessary tires, etc. will help again. The main thing is to be smart, as the author of this photo did:

Homemade equipment for discs

And also, it is advisable to follow the tips:

  • Using an aerosol, the can must be shaken periodically;
  • The temperature of the aerosol can should not be too low: 30-35 degrees is the norm;
  • Hold the spray at a distance of 20 cm from the surface (no less);
  • When painting, you can not stay in one place for a long time, otherwise streaks will form.

The paint is applied in two or three layers, maintaining an interval of 10 minutes. An hour after painting, the surface is treated with varnish. You can use the finished product in a day. But it is better to wait 60-80 hours - during this time the varnish gains maximum strength.

Usually, acrylic paint, glossy or matte, is used to paint metal. The primer for this paint is also acrylic (universal). There are also nitro paints. All of the listed materials are packaged in an aerosol. But for nitro enamels, as it is easy to understand, not every primer is suitable. Be aware that nitrogen (nitro) based primers and paints are banned in most countries.

We list tips that are known even to beginners:

  1. The higher the air temperature, the faster the drying;
  2. The color of the primer should roughly match the color of the paint;
  3. The aerosol must be shaken before use. The temperature of the packaging, moreover, should not be lower than 25 degrees. The advice applies to any aerosol: with paint, with a primer or varnish.

It was said how to paint stamped discs, if you know that the work will be done by hand. And therefore, such an option as the use of powder paints was not considered. Good luck.

According to reviews, 4 discs consume: 2 cans of dye (450 ml), one can of primer (450 ml), one can of varnish.

Dismantling is not required

Sometimes, in order to complete the painting faster, the rims are painted without removing the tires. First, the pressure is reduced to the maximum, and then, as can be seen from the photo, masking tape is used:

Adhesive tape glued under the edge of the rim

Perhaps comments are unnecessary here. Do the same to save time.

Hub like a lathe

There is a method that allows you to quickly paint over the rim:

  1. Let's say there is rust on the surface of the rim. To find out about this, you will have to disassemble the disk (Fig. 1);
  2. Further, the disk is mounted on the hub, the engine is started and the gear is switched on (Fig. 2);
  3. If using a left hub, turn the steering wheel to the left, and vice versa;
  4. Using a cloth-based sandpaper, polishing is carried out (Fig. 3). It is better to fix sandpaper on a bar;
  5. In the same way that the "preparation" was performed in step 4, staining can be carried out (Fig. 4).

All steps are illustrated in the photo:

Use this method at your own risk.

How to make a border

You can buy contour tape to paint in two colors. Standard option two-color color - a border near the rim. The result of all work will look like this:

Forged rimmed discs

The border color is the first layer of paint. Or rather, two or three layers. When doing two-tone painting, keep the following in mind:

  • Let the paint dry before applying the tape. What takes 15-20 minutes;
  • Do not use regular tape with contour tape. It will be removed along with the paint;
  • In the example shown above, painting could be done like this: 2-3 layers of red enamel, drying, one "outer" layer.

The last layer must be dried at the end. Then varnishing is performed. Be aware that the width of the contour tape is always 6 mm. But this is not a problem, since polyethylene can be glued under the tape.

Express coloring: four discs in 15 minutes, an example in the video

Many car owners sooner or later face a situation where appearance wheel rims is not the same as before. First, small chips appear, then corrosion, and now, during the next seasonal “change of shoes”, we notice that the disc began to look like a piece of secondary black metal. This is not surprising, because the wheels have a hard time - temperature changes, snow and ice, abrasive mud and gravel, as well as pits and deicing agents. And there comes a time when a car on such wheels looks unattractive. In such a situation, you can contact the specialists at the service center, who will put the disks in order for a decent fee, or you can paint the disks on the car with your own hands.

  • primer;
  • enamel;
  • emery cloth of various abrasiveness;
  • "Bulgarian" with a bowl-shaped brush;
  • degreaser (anti-silicone);
  • rust converter;

What materials to choose and how to apply

First, a little about the materials. Enamel and primer must certainly have the same base - either alkyd or acrylic. The first gives a good shine, but dries for a long time, the second shines worse, but dries in 2 hours.

Choose the method of application yourself, but keep in mind that working with a spray gun requires equipment and experience. Therefore, for independent work it is better to take the path of least resistance and purchase ready-made materials in aerosol cans. Moreover, now there are special acrylic enamels for discs that have proven themselves very well - the coating is very strong and durable. Accordingly, the primer is also required to take acrylic.

How is the process of painting car wheels

Maximum results can be achieved only with the tires removed, since the surface of the landing shelves (humps) may also require stripping and painting. The development of corrosion on them causes a loss of tightness, and the tire constantly bleeds air. Therefore, you must first go to the tire fitting. We disassemble the wheels and thoroughly wash the disks. It is better to do this at a car wash using chemistry. Further work should be carried out in a well-ventilated area or outdoors, avoiding dust.

The process of painting car rims takes place according to the following scenario:

After completing all the steps above, leave the discs to dry. Tires can be installed no earlier than 12 hours later.

How to paint alloy wheels

Although aluminum alloy wheels do not rust like steel wheels, they are no less susceptible to chips and scratches. Painting alloy wheels is different in that they can be initially painted in two colors, sometimes enamel with a metallic effect, and this necessarily requires an additional layer of clear varnish. In addition to this, they often have a complex profile surface.

Preparation already requires more accuracy and the grinder has nothing to do here. Hand sanding only. In this way, you need to even out all the defects, and then make the entire surface matte. Next, degrease and prime the bare spots. Only the usual primer in this case will not work, you need a special one for aluminum.

Alloy wheel refinishing is required for a variety of reasons. Here are the most common ones.

  1. Chips, small and large scratches appear on the discs from time to time. There can be a huge number of reasons for this. It is important to paint the disc in a timely manner to prolong its life. Otherwise, very soon you will have to change the disk completely, which will cost many times more than regular painting.
  2. Often, do-it-yourself painting of alloy wheels is required after the end of the winter season. The problem is that there is a lot of salt on the roads in winter. It quickly reacts with the paintwork of the body, corroding it. The saline solution can severely corrode even the base of the disc.
  3. Often, painting discs with your own hands may be necessary when buying a car from your hands. Sellers usually do not bother with this issue. Therefore, the new owner of the car usually has to paint the wheels.

What equipment is needed to paint wheels

For maximum quality painting rims you need to stock up on the following tools and materials:

  • primer;
  • latex gloves;
  • respirator;
  • rags;
  • any sandpaper;
  • good solvent.

You need to decide in advance. Do-it-yourself stamped wheel painting is usually done with one of three types of paint.

  1. Powder paint produced on the basis of completely dry polymer material. It is this type of color that is the most durable. Powder coating discs is more suitable for professional craftsmen. For home use, this coating is not suitable, as it is quite difficult to apply. In addition, expensive equipment is required for the highest quality application.
  2. Liquid rubber- it is relatively new and at the same time enough quality material for car painting. And it is increasingly chosen by both home masters and professionals.
  3. Acrylic paints are very popular among both professionals and home craftsmen. Paint for discs in spray cans is characterized by an optimal combination of price and quality. Acrylic paints have excellent adhesive properties, thanks to which they stay on the discs for a long time and protect them from negative impacts. Such paints are produced in liquid form. They are easy to work with using any spray gun.

When buying varnish, paint and thinner, you should give preference to materials from one manufacturer.

When choosing tools for painting, you need to proceed from what end result you want to get. It is possible to paint rims using one spray can. If you want to get a result that is indistinguishable from the work of a master at a service station, you will need additional equipment:

  1. For the convenience of coloring discs, a special suspension is required. It is most convenient to make it with your own hands from ordinary wire.
  2. You can speed up the drying process of the disc coating using a regular household hair dryer. The best effect can be achieved using heat gun.
  3. You can use an electric drill to remove the old coating and pockets of rust. Alternatively, sandblasting can be used for this purpose.
  4. For perfect coverage, you will need a compressor or spray gun. However, modern spray paints also make it possible to create good coverage. Therefore, without a sufficient amount of painting experience, you should not bother with expensive equipment.

How to properly paint rims

Below is given step-by-step instruction acrylic paint coating. The whole process will take several hours. It is important to follow the sequence of actions, starting with preparation.

  1. Painting car rims begins with preparing the discs for coating. The tire needs to be removed from the rim. Alternatively, if you do not want to mess with the tire, you can cover it with polyethylene, which is fixed with masking tape.
  2. The discs must be cleaned of bitumen and dirt that settles tightly on them. For this purpose, you can use any car shampoo or other household detergent.
  3. Then you need to carefully inspect the discs and mark with a black marker the places of chips, swellings and scratches.
  4. Using an electric drill or sandblasting, remove the old coating and traces of corrosion.
  5. The next step is to degrease the surface of the discs. To do this, wipe them with a rag soaked in solvent.
  6. To remove all existing irregularities on the surface of the disc, it is necessary to putty, and after drying, wipe it with sandpaper.

After that, the surface of the disk is again degreased and hung on a wire for subsequent painting.

The process of applying paint also consists of several stages:

  1. Before painting, the surface of the disc must be carefully primed. The primer is applied in three layers. Each layer must dry completely before applying the next. For this purpose, you can use a heat gun or household hair dryer.
  2. Next, you can apply paint. This is done using a spray can or spray gun. You need to spray it at a distance of 40 to 50 m. In this case, you need to pay maximum attention hard-to-reach places. Do-it-yourself painting of car disks is carried out in three layers, and each must dry completely.
  3. The final step is to apply varnish to the painted surface. Two coats are enough, each of which must dry.
  4. Before starting operation from the moment of painting, you need to wait 3 - 4 days. During this time, all layers will completely harden.

To create an attractive appearance, it is important to explore all the details of the design. When considering successful and especially beautiful cars, it is the wheels that capture the eye. Painting alloy wheels is a way to complement the overall decor of a car and express yourself. After painting, the appearance of both a new and a 20-year-old car is improved. Do not neglect an effective tool for creating your own style, but use it for your own purposes.

Painting alloy wheels is a way to complement the overall decor of a car and express yourself.

Why paint alloy wheels?

Disks on a car always come into contact with external environments, mainly Negative influence. Paint for disks must take into account this feature and be resistant to all kinds of destructive influences, otherwise it will soon begin to peel off and burst, leading to the exposure of the base. After the destruction of the paint layer and the appearance of corrosion, the car loses its appearance and becomes extremely ordinary, and sometimes causes pity.

The main reasons for the need to paint alloy wheels

For clarity, we indicate 3 main reasons, but there are much more of them:

  • Salt compounds in winter time. To improve the condition of roads, government agencies are sprinkling salt on urban roadbed. In a mixture with mud, snow and sand, a particularly aggressive environment is formed, into which the wheel and bottom fall, but it is the discs that are most susceptible to destruction. Many motorists may notice the first signs of deterioration after 1-2 winter trips. Until now, a highly effective composition for protection against salt mixtures has not been developed.
  • Country roads. When driving off-road or on the ground, the ground causes damage to the condition of the discs. There are many stones of various fractions in the soil, which destroy the protective surface and lead to corrosion or oxidation. Gradually, the car disk is completely covered with scratches, and sometimes chips. As damage increases, paint peeling accelerates. Dirt gets into small gaps in the paint, which greatly affects the appearance.
  • Abrupt change in temperature. It is recommended to paint the rims for fear of temperature changes, as in Russia winter comes unexpectedly. Sharp temperature changes lead to a proportional change in the size of the disc, as well as to a significant decrease in the strength of the paint.

Alloy wheels also often need to be painted.

In connection with the above reasons, the need for painting car rims is increasing. A simple option is to use the services of painters, service stations or certified service centers. The disadvantage of the method lies in the significant cost of funds. An alternative way is to delve into the question of how to paint alloy wheels with your own hands, and do the whole procedure yourself.

What paint to choose

First of all, the painting of rims is aimed at protecting the material from destruction. More often they are based on an aluminum-magnesium alloy, which undergoes oxidation from exposure to external environment. The second task is to improve the design.

Do-it-yourself painting of alloy wheels should begin with the selection of the optimal paint composition, today there are 3 most popular areas:

Autoenamel acrylic Mobihel

  • Acrylic based. Do-it-yourself painting of discs is mainly done with acrylic paints. A huge variety of colors testifies in favor of the composition. It is sold in cans and spray cans, for the first type you will have to use a compressor and an airbrush. The dye in the aerosol can be applied immediately.
  • In powder form. Alloy wheels can be painted with either type, but it is preferable to use the powder type for wheels. The main disadvantage of this type is the difficulty of application in unprepared conditions. It is very difficult to ensure sufficient quality of powder coating in the garage due to the lack of a drying chamber, because it needs a special temperature to harden.
  • . An interesting auto-disk composition, it is very convenient to use and durable, but it is not cheap.

Today, an aerosol is often used, it is used to restore the paintwork of a car: body, disks, individual parts and color interior plastic. In order for the tires to receive sufficient protection, it will be necessary to treat 4 wheels with 3-4 cans.

Consumables and tools

You can reduce the time of work with car enamel if you first prepare the tools and materials:

  • solvent - will be necessary for degreasing the surface;
  • grinding machine;
  • rags and any liquid detergent;
  • fine-grained material (200–600) for grouting;
  • putty, paint and varnish;
  • any paper and masking tape;
  • personal protective equipment - special clothing and a respirator.

Surface degreasing solvent Brief recommendations

A few tips on how to paint wheels in the best way:

  • adjust the lighting of the wheeled part and the workplace. Own lighting may be insufficient, and 1 carrier is not a suitable light source;
  • experts say that an important condition for high-quality preparation is a sandblasting device. Without it, it will be difficult to create a perfectly flat, clean surface. Such editing is appropriate only if it is possible to use the device;
  • if it is decided to paint the discs using a composition of cans, you need to take care of buying a compressor and an airbrush;
  • the instruction for almost all paints requires maximum cleanliness of the room and the absence of dust. Optimal temperature regime– 15–20 °C.

The main stages of painting car alloy wheels with your own hands: technologies and their implementation

The dyeing technology implies the need to remove the tire, this is the most effective method qualitatively paint the alloy wheel in any color. Some amateurs do not want to spend time dismantling and immediately paint the parts. In the installed state, it is impossible to paint the surface of the material well. If the slightest disk area is not painted over, destruction will begin from that place. When deciding to shorten the time, you need to separate the steel or aluminum rim from the tire using paper and tape.

Preparing alloy wheels for painting

Preparatory stage

The technique of painting at home requires basic preparations:

  • remove any contaminants from the wheel to the maximum: paint, dirt, bitumen, any fasteners, etc. There are a lot of liquid cleaners on the shelves of auto chemical goods, any one will do;
  • if the structure has chips and deep damage, they should be treated with putty. Over the composition should be walked two or three times with sandpaper. To begin with, a larger fraction is used (200–300), then a smaller one - 400 and at the end - 600;
  • the disc will have to be thoroughly washed again with clean water to remove all debris left after grinding;
  • degrease the base with a solvent.

In the process of rubbing the putty, it is necessary to periodically moisten the surface when the hand feels significant heating. Manually, the procedure will take a lot of time, the work will be painfully monotonous and uninteresting. To speed up the work, it is better to use a grinder.

Painting stage

According to the method and technology of staining, an algorithm of actions has been developed:

Coating alloy wheels with primer

  • Ground cover. When using a primer in the form of an aerosol, be sure to shake the composition. To spray the product, you need to hold the can at a distance of 20-25 cm. High-quality lighting is important here to prevent leaks and fluid leaks. Leave the layer to dry, it takes 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Cleanup. Now you need to form a plane with sandpaper with a grain of 200-300. To improve the condition of the surface, a cross movement is used, then scuffs and scratches do not appear.
  • Purging. To remove dust after wiping, blow the surface with compressed air. Now the coating is primed and polished again.
  • Rubbing. Before staining, it is recommended to wipe the discs using napkins. It is important not to use standard rags, otherwise villi will appear, worsening the final result.
  • Initial layer. Through an airbrush or from a conventional spray can, it is necessary to process the part from a distance of 20 to 25 cm. To dry, leave the disk for 20–30 minutes.
  • Second layer. The procedure corresponds to the previous stage, only now it is worth especially carefully monitoring the uniformity of the paint coating. All stripes must overlap. The disk is dried for 20-30 minutes.
  • Finish layer. When the paint has acquired its final strength, it is necessary to treat it with a varnish composition. It is recommended to varnish 2 times, but 1 layer is enough. Varnish dries longer than paint, about 18-24 hours.

If you want to improve the appearance, you can walk on top of the polish. The color with a matte effect looks attractive. An extraordinary design is acquired by discs that glow at night. Luminous composition is relatively expensive.

For most motorists who are accustomed to keeping their car in order, a well-groomed interior and appearance of the car will always be one of the criteria by which the owner of the car is judged. And in the fact that the car looks immaculate, there are usually no trifles; in such a car, all parts must be in perfect condition, including rims.

But it is far from always possible to achieve the ideal state of the disks, because it is on them that most of the problems of city roads fall - they constantly scratch, experience an aggressive reaction chemicals, with which public utilities process roads, require constant care and, as a result, despite all the efforts of the next painting. One of the methods of caring for rims today is painting using modern technologies metal protection, providing not only a high-quality coating, but also making it possible to emphasize the individuality of the car.

Materials for painting discs

The final result of painting car rims with your own hands largely depends on how the whole process of work was organized correctly and what tools and materials were used for this. One of the keys to success here is proper preparation discs for the application of a primer and subsequent coats of paint and varnish. At this stage of work, you will usually need the most simple tools and consumables:

  • Metal brush;
  • Sandpaper with varying degrees of grit;
  • Rags;
  • Respiratory protective equipment, goggles, gloves;
  • Masking tape, plastic film, paper;
  • Solvent;
  • putty;
  • A set of spatulas.

For a higher and more thorough preparation of the surface of the rims, you can use an electric tool with metal brush nozzles or sandblasting equipment to remove the old coating, which makes it possible to clean the rims to metal with high quality.

In the process of priming and painting you will need:

  • Compressor and airbrush;
  • room with exhaust ventilation for painting;
  • Drying chamber;
  • Painting stand;
  • Industrial hair dryer for drying individual areas.

When working on powder coating, in addition, it is necessary to take care of the construction of a drying chamber with the ability to provide an air temperature of 250-300 degrees for 4-6 hours for the polymerization of the powder coating.

Modern car care products, including rims, with constant use, can maintain the color and integrity of the paint coating of the rim, but after a certain time, it is still better to repaint the rims completely, without spending additional costs on partial renovation coatings.

For independent application of paint and varnish coating, conventional automotive paints and enamels and high-tech coatings are mainly used. Most often for painting disks are used:

  • Acrylic paints;
  • Nitroenamels;
  • Liquid rubber.

Each type of coating is successfully used for independent painting of rims. However, when choosing the type of paint coating, it is necessary to take into account the properties of paints and the features of the application technology.

Acrylic car enamels most common today and widely used for painting body parts and rims. They are produced both in the form of ready-to-use compositions in aerosol cans, and in the form of individual color forms of paints that require further mixing to obtain the desired color. When dried, the paints form a durable film that is resistant to external influences. Painting with acrylic paints today is the most common and easy type of work for self-mastery. Acrylic-based paints are suitable for all types of discs.

Once popular nitro enamels today they are used mainly in the form of aerosol cans. The popularity of this species car paints lies in the ease and speed of work. Paints are sold ready-made, easy to apply to the surface, dry quickly in normal conditions. This paint is usually used for express painting, and is suitable for all types of rims. However, this paint holds worse than the others.

Liquid rubber relatively the new kind protective coating. The main form of release is ready-to-use paint in aerosol cans. Easily applied to the surface, provides reliable adhesion, excellent resistance to external influences. The disadvantage of the paint is that it is difficult to make the selection of the desired color, since it is sold in cylinders in the finished composition. Suitable for painting discs of any type.

- a new high-tech type of coating that provides reliable protection metal and at the same time excellent appearance. Powder paint makes it possible to create any color composition, including using multiple color transitions. The disadvantage of this staining technology is the need to use special equipment and great care when working. In addition, it is not recommended to use powder technology for application to light-alloy alloy wheels, especially of unknown manufacturers from China.

Light metal alloy wheels, like other types of car wheels, require painting. During operation, the metal of the structure is constantly exposed to atmospheric precipitation, harmful emissions and aggressive chemical substances for processing pavement. In addition, the properties of the metal are affected by scratches, chips and cracks. Painting such discs allows you to avoid metal destruction due to corrosion and significantly extend their service life.

Alloy wheels

For painting alloy wheels it is recommended to use acrylic enamels and liquid rubber , powder coating is applicable only for low-temperature compositions, the heating of which for polymerization is carried out at a temperature of 200-250 degrees.

The process of preparation for painting is carried out in the following sequence:

The painting process is conditionally divided into the stages of preparation, application of primer, painting with a pigment composition and final varnishing. All these operations must be done in a dust-free room with well-functioning exhaust ventilation and good lighting.

Before starting work, the discs are placed on a paint booth or hung on a wire so as to get maximum access to all surfaces to be painted.

Preparation for priming and the priming process itself is carried out as follows:

Coloring is carried out in 1-2 layers, depending on the desired result, while:

  • Staining is done in 2-3 passes from a distance of 40-50 cm from the disc, in the direction from top to bottom;
  • When painting, the spray gun or container must be held in such a way as to repeat the relief of the disk, and achieve maximum coverage with a surface layer.

Applying paint to a car rim

Attention!

When painting discs first, the inner surface is painted , and after that the front side, this is due to the fact that ink streaks from the inside in any case show through the holes and windows of the disc to the front side. Before painting the front side, it is recommended to carefully remove the streaks with a clean rag soaked in a solvent and then continue the painting process.

After the main layer of paint has dried, 2 protective layers of varnish are applied on top of it. The technology of applying varnish is similar to the technology of painting with a mandatory break for drying each layer.

Car rim before and after painting

Drying is recommended to be carried out in a drying chamber for at least 2 days, until the final drying of the last layer of varnish. All this time, the disk must be on the stand, it is not recommended to remove it and put it on. After the varnish has dried, it is recommended to put on the tire on the disc no earlier than 24 hours later.

Stamped rims are the most popular as the main rims for installing winter tires, which is why they bear the entire burden of operating a car in winter conditions. Before starting work, it is recommended to remove the tires, align the deformed areas, center and roll to the desired shape on the machine.

Forged discs are mainly made from cold rolled or hot rolled steel by hot stamping, which requires a mandatory protective coating. For stamped discs, any painting technology is acceptable, since the metal of the structure will not be deformed from heating to a temperature of 250-300 degrees during powder painting.

stamped discs

A feature of painting stamped discs is the preparation process, during which, after restoring the shape of the disc, it is necessary:

In preparation for painting:

Painting with acrylic paint and liquid rubber is carried out according to a similar technology - painting with an airbrush and from a cylinder, first on the inside, and then on the front. The use of the powder method requires additional equipment - an airbrush for application powder paint, apparatus for electrostatic spraying, drying chamber with the ability to maintain a temperature of 180 to 300 degrees, depending on the composition of the powder paint.

Application of acrylic paint or liquid rubber carried out in the following order:

  1. At the stand, an inspection of the results of the primer is carried out, flaws are removed and the entire surface is degreased again;
  2. From a distance of 50-60 cm, all areas are painted with 2-3 passes of an airbrush or spray bottle - first the side surface, inner surface and then the front surface of the disk;
  3. The stand is placed in a drying chamber for 24-36 hours until completely dry.

Painting a stamped disc

Varnishing is carried out in 2 layers, subject to complete drying of the surface.

Forged wheels, unlike stamped ones, go through a more complex manufacturing process, during which the necessary shape of the wheel is formed by forging, while the structure of the metal changes, it becomes more durable and elastic. Such products allow any method of painting, including high-temperature treatment during powder painting.

Forged wheels

When painting forged wheels, it is necessary to carry out the following operations in the process of preparation and painting:

When painting discs without removing tires, the preparation process has its own characteristics:

  • The disk is washed together with the tire;
  • The nipple and tire near the disk are sealed with masking tape before starting work;
  • Mechanical cleaning of the surface, puttying and grinding are done with the utmost care so as not to damage the tire;
  • Installation on a paint stand must also take into account the mass of the tire;
  • In the drying chamber, the maximum temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.

Pasting the tires of the wheel before painting the rims

In extreme conditions, when not only the rubber is not removed, but the wheels remain on the car, it is recommended that all operations be done in a place protected from the wind in dry weather at normal humidity and a temperature of at least 20 degrees. The body of the machine is recommended to be covered with plastic wrap and fixed with adhesive tape. Tire rubber can be closed playing cards, inserting them with one edge between the rubber and the rim of the disc around the entire circumference. Coloring in this case will not be of very high quality, but the effect of freshness will last for 3-4 weeks.
