The bathroom is a very important room in the home, as it allows you to carry out daily hygiene procedures. And for plumbing fixtures that perform their functional tasks in the bathroom, there are a number of modern devices that provide maximum comfort to a person during their operation. Leading the way in this list are bathroom screens, which are available on the market in a wide variety.

Features and purpose

Bathroom screens, hinged or rigid curtains, blinds - these are not all the names of this design. However, despite the wide choice of names, the screen performs, in fact, one task. During water procedures in the bathroom, drops of water and hygiene products partially fall on all surfaces in the room, including furniture. As a result, the room has a damp microclimate, which is fraught with damage to furniture, as well as the development of fungi and mold dangerous to humans, which entails the need for frequent repair work or purchasing new pieces of furniture.

In addition, a wet floor is a rather dangerous surface on which an adult and a child can easily slip.

In order to eliminate the risk of such traumatic situations, as well as the formation of excessive moisture and dampness in the bathroom, it will be enough to acquire a special screen that will significantly reduce the level of moisture in the room.

Such a kind of protective screen for the shower is offered in supermarkets to consumers in a huge assortment, which guarantees them the purchase of a sliding, hinged or any other screen configuration, made of durable and high-quality raw materials, which has a variety of color scheme, featuring a wide selection of decor for partitions.

Screens, like blinds and curtains, are a very useful attribute of the bathroom, but in comparison with the above analogues, they have a number of undeniable advantages.

  • the design provides maximum protection for walls, furniture and floors from water splashes: by installing doors instead of curtains, not a single drop of water will get out;
  • the screen does not need any specific maintenance and installation of spacers for curtains;
  • various microorganisms can develop on ordinary curtains - the designs under consideration completely exclude this problem;
  • wide choose different models and shapes allows you to choose a design made of glass or polycarbonate, with or without a frame, due to which the design will be in perfect harmony with the overall interior of the bathroom;
  • based on numerous customer reviews, the operation of the screens is several times more comfortable, since standard curtains are often glued to the body and folded like an accordion when wet, swinging open from a draft;
  • the raw materials from which the structures are made have a high level of durability;
  • installation of purchased products can be done by any owner of the home with their own hands.

Based on the above positive features of this product, having studied the types and models on the market, you can make the right choice.

Varieties

All commercially available screens can be classified based on the following criteria:

  • method of opening the wings of the structure;
  • configuration features;
  • the type of raw material used for the production of the screen.

Keeping in mind the way the doors open, there are several types of bathroom screens.

  • Designs made in the form of an accordion. It is worth choosing if the bathroom has a round or rounded tub. The disadvantages of a folding shower screen include its need for some space, due to which it is better to install such models in spacious bathrooms. In addition, the connecting parts of the structure deteriorate over time, which can lead to breakage of the entire product.
  • Swing types. Recommended for large rooms with a corner bath.
  • Sliding products. The most demanded model, its popularity is explained by the specifics of the configuration, due to which screens with this method of opening the sashes can be installed in all rooms without exception, even in bathrooms with a small area. And most importantly, such products are perfectly compatible with standard straight and semicircular bathtubs, which are equipped with almost all apartments, since they work by analogy with wardrobes.

Design features suggest the presence of three types of screens.

  • Products without frame. Consists of several elements made mainly of glass. For safety, the corners of such products are rounded.
  • Frame screens. They consist of several leaves (on average from 2 to 6) and a supporting frame. Of all the sections, as a rule, one acts as a door. It opens with a side shift. Installation is carried out on racks, fastening to the plumbing itself takes place with the help of guides.
  • Combined models. They combine all the properties of the two previous types of structures. Most of these models have one part, partially installed on the profile. Thanks to this feature, it is adjustable.

Based on the variety of raw materials used, the screens are divided into glass products and polycarbonate products. Each material has individual positive and negative characteristics.

As for polycarbonate, it is a fairly versatile raw material that is in demand for arranging summer cottages, for example, greenhouses, as well as for arranging various partitions in the house itself.

It has a number of advantages that are relevant for structures such as a screen in the bathroom:

  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • mechanical strength, which eliminates the risk of cracking from accidental impact;
  • neutrality to most chemical cleaning compounds;
  • due to its low weight, it allows you to make and install doors of large dimensions, for example, up to 190 cm high;
  • during installation, the risk of spoiling the material is minimal;
  • products from this raw material compare favorably with their affordable cost.

Glass is a rather fragile material, but this property does not in the least affect its popularity as partitions for bathtubs and showers.

This is explained by the presence of advantages of raw materials, among which the following can be noted:

  • not subject to rotting and corrosion;
  • has a good level of resistance to chemical compositions;
  • fungus and mold do not form on glass;
  • the operational life of glass screens significantly exceeds that of plastic products, the installation of curtains made of textiles will also not differ in durability;
  • low thermal conductivity;

Glass screens with various multi-colored decor allow you to transform the interior of the bathroom due to color accents, which is not possible using plastic partitions.

Popular models of glass screens for the bathroom are:

  • sliding glass screen Cascade 170x150 cm with three wings;
  • Primo 85x140 cm;
  • front screen with towel holder Sensea Optima 140x85 cm;
  • Mezzo 170x150 cm clear glass.

Criterias of choice

When choosing a screen, it is necessary to take into account a number of important features, which are inherent in a particular model:

  • before ordering a structure, appropriate measurements should be taken in the room, taking into account that there must be a distance between the ceiling and the edge of the product to ensure ventilation;
  • for walls that do not have a perfectly flat surface, it is better to purchase a design with adjustable hinges;
  • when choosing a screen model, it is necessary to take into account the size of the room so that the purchased products do not become an obstacle in the bathroom;

For small rooms it is better to opt for transparent screens;

  • the service life of the entire product largely depends on the reliability of the fittings;
  • if the walls of the structure are made of material different colors, it would be useful to equip additional lighting in the area of \u200b\u200bits installation;
  • in combined bathrooms, you can install a side screen 90x90 cm in a transparent design, which will not visually burden the space;
  • quality installation is an important component on which the durability of the screen will depend.

Mounting methods

You can install a glass screen with your own hands. In some cases, the technology may differ slightly, but in general step-by-step instruction installation includes the following steps:

  • first of all, you need to purchase a working tool: fasteners, a puncher and a drill, a sealant and a gun, as well as a level and masking tape;
  • first, a profile is fixed to the wall, which acts as a kind of fence for such a curtain;
  • from it you need to get the rail and use the level to mark the attachment points;
  • holes are made in these places;
  • the profile is treated with a sealant and attached to the surface;

  • a glass sheet is installed in the profile and fixed with fasteners, without twisting them to the maximum;
  • a sealant is inserted into the left distance between the structural elements, after which all the screws are tightened to the end;
  • all existing gaps between the wall and the screen are filled with silicone;
  • after the composition has completely solidified (after about 24 hours), you can use the bath for its intended purpose.

Shower cubicle set up with my own hands, will not only make your stay more comfortable, but also save money. Homemade boxing will save you from the cost of attracting third-party and not always conscientious workers. Equally important is the moral satisfaction received from the results of their work. Is it true?

We will tell you how a shower cabin should be built in a private house with your own hands, we will help you in choosing the best plumbing fixture. We will show you how to develop a project and bring the idea of \u200b\u200bbuilding a hygienic homemade product to life.

In the article presented by us, the process of building and arranging a shower is described step by step. The technology for installing the booth and connecting it to the sewer largely depends on the chosen modification of the pallet.

Before proceeding directly to the description of the assembly process, we will briefly consider the main types of shower stalls available for sale, the criteria for their selection.

Variety of models: what is better to choose

The shower area is simple design from the pallet and curtains. Instead of the walls that are typical for a full-fledged shower stall, the walls of the room are used. There is no ceiling in the shower area. Its main advantages are low cost and compactness.

Shower enclosure - one of the simplest, most convenient and cheapest models of shower cabins, takes up minimal space and is suitable for self-assembly

More "fancy" models have a roof and walls. Expensive multifunctional units have rich technical equipment: Turkish bath or sharko shower, flavored steam mode, different types hydromassage, additional functions, various lighting.

An expensive model of a shower cabin with a hydromassage function, lighting and a deep tray. Requires not only sufficient space for installation, but also the necessary pressure in the water supply

The control of such booths is carried out by a complex electronic system. Before buying an expensive cabin equipped with a hydromassage function, you first need to find out the level of water pressure in the pipes.

Combined showers are a kind of compromise for those who like to take a bath with a hydromassage and have a full-fledged shower at home. Combined models are distinguished by the original and stylish design– on the market they are often positioned as home SPA centers.

It is to the pallet that the products impose increased requirements. A high-quality pallet must withstand a large load, and at maximum allowable weight the user will not crack, bend or deform.

Shower trays are made from different materials.

Most popular models:

  • faience;
  • from artificial stone;
  • enamelled;
  • acrylic.

Faience. Everyone known material used in the manufacture of toilet bowls. The earthenware tray is completely hygienic, easy to clean and can withstand a lot of weight.

The disadvantage of faience is the strong “causticity” of the material: the surface of the pallet can be damaged even if, for example, a glass cup falls

Fake diamond- reliable and durable material, beautiful and hygienic, but expensive.

Enamelled pallets for shower stalls are cheap and durable. Of the shortcomings, only the fragility of the enamel should be noted. However, the enamel coating can be easily restored or replaced with acrylic. An additional minus is the roar of falling water on the metal surface of the pallet.

Acrylic pallets are the most popular. The acrylic surface does not absorb dirt at all, warms up instantly, does not darken over time.

Scratches on acrylic are completely invisible - this is important point, since the trays are often scratched when the shower cabin is assembled by hand, especially for the first time

The disadvantage of acrylic pallets is the inconvenience in installation, since the installation of a special frame is required. As such, an aluminum structure with adjusting screws is used, with which you can select the desired height of the pallet.

What are curtains?

The second most important element is the cabin curtains, which can be hinged and sliding. Swing doors require more space. They are single-sided and double-sided.

As for sliding curtains, they have from two to six wings, which are held by a rubber magnetic tape. The curtains move on rollers hidden inside the frame of the shower cabin. High-quality curtains should open and close almost silently.

Corner shower cubicle with sliding doors. In addition to models with transparent plastic (glass), there are options with frosted curtains.

Shower curtains are made of polystyrene or high quality tempered glass. Products made of polystyrene are quite cheap and have a small weight, but they quickly lose their transparency, stains remain on them.

Glass curtains are expensive high-quality products.

Hinged doors made of tempered frosted glass. In their manufacture, specially processed safety glass is used, which surpasses even automotive glass in strength.

Water and dirt are very easily washed off the glass surface - the material does not absorb anything and does not fade over the years. You can also buy a booth with curtains made of classic transparent, tinted, colored and rough glass.

Shower project development

With apparent technical complexity, the independent construction of a shower cabin is, in fact, quite a feasible procedure for a simple layman, especially for a hard-working owner.

Just as the construction of any capital structure begins with the development of a project, it is necessary to think over before starting work on equipping a shower in a private house with your own hands.

It is advisable to mark on paper the main plans and schemes, for example:

  • a plan for placing a shower cabin in a designated room;
  • schemes for connecting to power supply networks, water supply and sewerage;
  • the procedure for equipping the shower room with a ventilation system.

The preparation of the room for the shower and the direct arrangement of the cabin in it are carried out in several stages.

In modern interiors, a shower cubicle with an overall tray is often replaced with structures with thin transparent or matte walls installed on the floor. The arrangement of a shower cabin without a pallet may seem simple. But this is only at first glance.

In practice, the installation of a compact design requires basic skills and strict adherence to installation rules, do you agree with this?

Do you want to install a shower cabin yourself, but do not understand what materials and components are needed for this? Let's deal with all the nuances of this process together - our article provides detailed instructions for the construction of a shower without a tray.

Each stage of the work is considered in detail, visual photos illustrating the described moments are selected. And in addition to the article, we added videos that clearly demonstrate the process of installing such plumbing.

fashionable modern interiors favorably distinguished by ergonomics, lightness and availability free space. For this reason, designers have developed compact and stylish shower designs without a tray.

Thin, often transparent cabin enclosures are mounted on the bathroom floor, where, immediately, thanks to which the practical shower box plays the role of an integral element of the interior.

A shower box without a tray is used to organize a small bathroom and a spacious room. A variety of models allows you to embody creative design ideas in interior design.

Since the walls of the shower cabin are usually made of the thinnest transparent plastic, the design looks airy and light. An important advantage of a shower box without a pallet is that it requires minimal space to install.

A shower without a tray will not only successfully cope with its intended purpose, but also stylishly transform the interior of the bathroom

Manufacturers often use transparent or organic as partitions for a shower stall. frosted glass. After taking a shower, there are no traces of water droplets on the glass surface.

To independently install the shower stall, you need to take care of the availability of certain tools and aids. These include a level, a drill, a tape measure, a construction gun, and silicone putty.

How to install a shower stall: steps

First of all, install shower tray. To do this, you must strictly follow the established sequence of actions.

Place the assembled drain elements in the opening of the pallet intended for this purpose.

Fix a gasket made of waterproof material under the drip tray and tighten the assembled drain system very tightly.

Install pre-prepared sewer pipes. The sewer hole must be directly under the drain. Before starting work, it is recommended that you first make all the necessary measurements. This will speed up the process and avoid mistakes.

Position the tray so that it is in a horizontal position. To obtain an accurate result, you need to properly adjust the legs placed on it. If it is necessary to form a slope to drain the water, the tray can be slightly raised.

A seam is formed between the pallet and the tile. Silicone mastic will ensure its tightness. It should be carefully applied between surfaces with a construction gun.

Screen installation

After the shower stall is installed, or rather its tray, you can proceed with the installation of the screen. It must be placed straight. Her correct installation takes place in several stages.

  • The wall profile must be placed on the edge of the pallet. The process should use a level. On the tile, you will need to make several marks at the drilling points.

  • Using a drill, carefully make holes and place dowels in them. The impact function of the device should be avoided, as this can cause significant damage to the ceramic coating.
  • Screw the profile to the wall after the depth of the hole fully corresponds to the length of the dowels used.
  • Place the part of the screen that is fixed into the profile. Hang the shower doors, adjust their position and fasten securely.

  • Using silicone sealant, create seams connecting the various parts of the structure.

The seal placed on the doors must fit snugly against the pallet. This will ensure proper sealing during the process. further use shower cabin.

Installation of showers (video):

From the author: hello dear readers! IN last years we began to pay more and more attention to the comfort of our home. Modern manufacturers have also caught this wave, so the market is flooded with various devices that are designed to make our life more convenient and comfortable. Especially global changes have affected bathrooms. Illuminated toilets with a radio, hot tubs and the like - could we have thought of something like that fifteen years ago?

Of course, a jacuzzi is still far from being found in every home. But showers are becoming more and more popular. They are convenient and do not take up much space (although the latter factor depends on the specific model). In addition, closed models have many interesting features. In them you can take a rain shower or enjoy aromatherapy, get a hydromassage treatment and benefit the body in other ways.

However, just this type of booths usually differs in impressive dimensions. Therefore, in small x, open models are more relevant. They take up very little space, and installing a shower enclosure yourself is a fairly simple matter. In today's article, we will analyze just this procedure.

What is the difference between a shower enclosure and a cubicle

The modern market offers many varieties of shower stalls, which, in general, are divided into two types: open and closed. The latter type is named so because such a model is closed on all sides: it has walls, a floor, a ceiling. In essence, this is a small separate room for the adoption of water procedures.

As mentioned above, such cabins can have a variety of interesting features for massage, relaxation, and the like. In general, the equipment brings a considerable amount of comfort to the life of the owners, this is especially true for those who are very fond of water procedures.

Of course, it was not without its downsides. Closed cabins has the following disadvantages:

  • a complex installation procedure, especially in the case of the presence of those very additional functions. In principle, you can buy equipment already assembled and not bother with connecting each element. But it often happens that such a model, when assembled, simply does not fit through the bathroom door. As a rule, the matter still ends with the call of the master, who assembles the booth directly in the bathroom;
  • price. Plumbing is generally distinguished by considerable prices, and when it comes not just to water supply, but also to comfort, it can turn out to be completely unprofitable. Moreover, the more functions, the more expensive the model, which is natural. On the other hand, they usually serve for a long time, and they bring a lot of pleasure;
  • dimensions. The large dimensions mentioned in the first paragraph can be a critical factor when it comes to a typical bathroom in an ordinary apartment building. What can we say about the infamous combined bathrooms in Khrushchev, where it is generally difficult to turn around. This cabin just won't fit in there.

If all of the above disadvantages - especially the last one - are for you great importance, then this is where the shower corner will come to the rescue. It is easy to install, inexpensive, and most importantly, it takes up much less space than closed models.

In fact, the main equipment of such equipment consists of a pallet and doors. The role of the side walls is played by the adjacent walls of itself. Thus, you get a corner in which the shower equipment is placed, a tray is mounted, and the whole thing is closed with a door and, in part, with panels.

Such a corner does not have a ceiling, so, of course, various “bells and whistles” like a tropical shower cannot be put here. But the production of work is greatly simplified. And in any case, such equipment will bring with it convenience and comfort, regardless of where it is located: even in a city apartment, even in a wooden house.

To make the installation procedure easy and trouble-free, we suggest reading the instructions below for installing a conventional shower enclosure with a do-it-yourself tray. Also attached to the article is a video, by watching which, you will further enrich the stock of knowledge. So let's get started.

Preparing for installation

The first thing to do is prepare the room.
  1. Remove from it everything that can interfere with freedom of action. Of course, we are not talking about dismantling the toilet bowl and other fixed structures. But washing machine, for example, it is better to endure. Shower enclosure doors and panels are usually made of fiberglass. They are fragile, therefore, catching on something or dropping any element, you risk dooming yourself to re-acquisition of a broken structural part.
  2. Invite a friend as an assistant. Despite all the ease, some installation steps are much easier to perform with two pairs of hands. It is both more reliable and safer.
  3. Decide on a specific installation location. It is desirable that the drain hole in the pan and in the floor are located one above the other. In this case, it will be possible to connect them directly, thereby providing the most reliable and high-quality connection. If this is not possible, then you will have to use an additional hose. In principle, this option also has the right to life. But remember that the presence of additional adapters always reduces the reliability of the connection.
  4. Level the floor where the installation will be. It is necessary that the pallet stands up perfectly, so use the building level when working. The best option in such cases, there are self-leveling floors, with which you can level a certain area. However, if the unevenness is not too strong, and the floor is already tiled, then there is no point in dismantling the tile. You can compensate for height differences by adjusting the legs of the pallet.

Installation procedure

The process of installing a shower enclosure always begins with the installation of a shower tray. To do this, you will need a wrench and a silicone-based waterproof sealant. And also, of course, the structural elements themselves: a pallet, a siphon and a drain hose included in the package.

In some models, the siphon, as such, is missing. In such cases, the hose itself takes over its function. As a rule, the kit then includes special devices, which, when installed on the hose, give it a curved shape. The siphon bend is necessary in order to prevent the penetration unpleasant odors from the sewer pipe into the room. Therefore, do not ignore these devices.

So, let's get started.

  1. Turn the pan upside down and find the drain hole on it. Connect a siphon to this place.
  2. Then fix the drain hose in the siphon. If you connected it directly to the drain hole in the pan, then install a bending device.
  3. Attach an elbow to the opposite end of the hose - this part is also usually included in the package.
  4. Install the elbow in the sewer hole located in the floor. You need to insert it in such a way that it goes completely there.
  5. Now take a waterproof silicone sealant and consistently process all the places where the docking took place: the pallet and the siphon, the siphon and the hose, the hose and the pipe, the pipe and the sewer hole. Allow the sealant to dry after processing. This usually takes approximately two hours. Try not to touch the structural elements until the sealant has completely cured, so as not to violate the strength of the layer.
  6. After the silicone sealant has completely cured, turn the pan upside down, put it in the right place and adjust the legs to the height. This is done using wrench. Turning the leg clockwise will make it shorter, counterclockwise will make it longer. Do not forget to regularly check the evenness with the help of the building level in the process.
  7. We finished with the connection, now we attach the pallet to the wall with the help of fasteners and process the joints with silicone sealant. Again we wait two hours.
After the sealant has dried, you can proceed with the installation of the door and side panels. Unpack all structural elements. Try to be careful - we remind you that fiberglass can suddenly surprise you with its fragility.

Set the glass pieces aside for now, let's tackle the frame first. Assemble it from metal frames. After assembly, check the evenness of all ends, as well as the verticality of the corresponding elements. Only then fix with screws. Try not to tighten them too much, otherwise the frame may warp.

Now we hoist the collected metal structure on the pallet and check how smoothly everything is installed and converges. It is better to do this together, since the frame must be held on both sides.

The side frames have special holes for fasteners. It is necessary to mark these places on the wall. Then remove the frame and set it aside for now.

Drill the wall in the marked places. If it is tiled, then do it very carefully to avoid cracking the tile. You will need two diamond drill bits designed specifically for this finishing material.

First, make notches on the glaze of the tile, then drill through the entire thickness of the tile with a very thin drill, and then take a nozzle of the required diameter (corresponding to the dowels) and bring the holes to the desired depth and width. Attach dowels to them.

Put the frame back on the pallet and fix it to the wall with screws. Before doing this, coat the side frames with waterproof silicone sealant, this is done on the side that will adjoin the wall surface. After tightening the screws, remove excess sealant with a damp cloth, without waiting for it to dry.

Install the mounts, seals and rollers included in the kit on the frame. Next mount side panels and then the door. Be sure to check the last one: open and close several times, while paying attention to the ease of sliding.

At the end, fasten door handle and treat all joints on the structure with sealant. Don't forget to remove any excess before it dries. After it hardens, the shower enclosure will be completely ready for use.

That's all, dear friends. As you can see, the installation procedure does not cause any difficulties. In addition, some prefer not to bother at all, but install only a tray, around which they hang a regular shower curtain.

Of course, this option looks less modern and stylish, but it also has the right to life. But in this case, you will have to take care of the quality of the floor first, since the curtain protects it from water much worse than the fiberglass construction. The choice is yours. Good luck!
