By doing renovation works a power tool is always used. But not every craftsman knows what a power tool is and how to choose it correctly.

If a major renovation is to be done, then it is better to choose a high-quality professional tool.

Today many companies create tools. Once the product is released, it meets certain requirements.

To choose the right power tool for your home, you should read some recommendations.

How to choose the right product?

Power tools are marketed as professional and non-professional. Professional products are designed for continuous use and heavy use. Non-professional tools have a weak system of parts. In addition, a similar technique works intermittently.

Which tool should you choose? If, after completing construction or repairs, you will not use it, then choose a non-professional power tool. And if you plan to use the equipment in the future, you can take a professional one.

When choosing products, pay attention to the power supply. Exists different kinds nutrition household appliances (current and battery, which is built into the case).

When giving preference to an AC power tool, it is worth looking at its safety.

It is only profitable to buy products powered by a battery if you work in a non-electrified facility. They are very convenient in that you do not need to be tied to a power source, you can do the work both outdoors and indoors.

But it should also be taken into account that the tool does not work for a long time between recharges. And its cost is too high.

If we talk about a tool that operates on AC power, then it must have electrical protection. Almost all manufacturers indicate a double insulation symbol on their products.

Instruments with similar insulation are connected to the mains using a two-wire circuit. It is best to choose options with special protection against accidental start. Such protection lies in the fact that permission to press the main button is confirmed only by pressing the additional button.

Versatile options: buy or not?

Now on the market you can see universal models that perform many additional functions.

For example, there are drills, thanks to which threading, working with screws, drilling, etc. are possible. They perform work in a small volume with such tools - if you need to finish something or make something yourself.

It is recommended to buy an electric tool for the house with additional functions only in that situation if its use will be about 25% of the volume of work.

When choosing a product, you should pay attention to whether it will be convenient for you to use it in your work. Some types of equipment must be equipped with certain devices. We are talking about the speed regulator and the starting device (if there is a device smooth start, then the products are gaining momentum smoothly).

In addition, one can single out such a trifle - the limiting torque clutch, which protects the engine of equipment from unacceptable load and increases its operating time. A more common case for the creation of certain loads, for example, for drills, is the jamming of the drill directly during drilling.

If the product is capable of generating large amounts of dust (we are talking about planers, jigsaws, etc.), then it must have an adapter. With it, you can connect a vacuum cleaner to the technique.

If you have already decided on an option and it meets the necessary requirements, then you can buy a device. Better not to buy products that the seller offers you. It is best to choose products from a trusted company.

Now you know how to choose a power tool in your home.

Site users prefer to make repairs in apartments and build houses on their own. In order for the repair to be of high quality, and the construction of the house does not turn into a long-term construction, reliable assistants are needed - different types of power tools. Many companies have a line of professional and amateur tools. What a home masseter needs, we will tell you in our material.

You will find out the answers to the following questions:

  • How does an amateur instrument differ from a professional one;
  • What features of a power tool you need to know before buying it;
  • Does a home craftsman need professional devices;
  • At what stage of work is it necessary to switch from an amateur device to a professional one;
  • What basic set should anyone have home master

Main selection criteria

Thinking about purchasing a power tool, first of all, you need to determine the scope of work. Hanging a chandelier or a picture in an apartment is one thing, and quite another thing when a cottage is to be built. If you can hang a picture using an ordinary drill, then when building a cottage you will need a whole arsenal of mechanical assistants.

All types of power tools can be conditionally divided into battery and power tools. It is also customary to divide it into amateur and professional.

Company specialist "AllInstruments" Alexander Dubov:

- Models of amateur and professional power tools vary significantly in price. The cost is influenced by the resource of work, reliability and functionality.

Two drills do the same job - drilling holes. But a professional drill is designed for long-term use throughout the working day. This is achieved through better cooling or overheating protection.

Such a drill can be provided electronic adjustment speed, multiple speeds, soft start function, maintaining constant speed under load.

Reliability, functionality and performance determine the class of the tool and affect its cost.

Company Power Tools Expert Bosch Vasily Ivanov :

- The professional tool is designed to work on construction sites and in difficult conditions. It has an increased resource and durability. If frequent use is expected, then it is better to choose a professional one. If not frequent, then - amateur.

When choosing a tool, you should pay attention to the fastening of the equipment, how quickly it changes, whether additional tools are needed to replace it. Convenience of location of controls and ergonomics are important.

Master Consultant hypermarket OBI Khodynskoe field Evgeny Babichev:

- A professional tool, as opposed to an amateur, has better cooling, dust resistance, a stronger body and higher quality parts. For example, in a professional angle grinder there is a metal bearing, and in an amateur one - a plastic sleeve.

The main differences between an amateur instrument and a professional one:

1. Working time:

  • professional - 200 h / month;
  • amateur - no more than 20 h / month.

2. Mode of operation:

  • professional - 40 minutes of work, 10 minutes of rest; designed for use no more than eight hours a day;
  • amateur - 10 minutes of work, 10 minutes of rest; designed to be used no more than five hours a week.

Evgeny Babichev:

- To understand what kind of tool you need, first of all, you need to determine - for what work and in what mode it will be used.

For example, let's take a professional and an amateur drill-driver from two different manufacturers and consider their technical characteristics.

Features of the professional cordless drill / driver:

  • battery charging time - 1 hour;
  • torque - 30N / m;
  • the set includes two rechargeable batteries;
  • can screw a 4.2x150 self-tapping screw into a tree without preliminary drilling;
  • can work non-stop.

Characteristics of the amateur cordless drill / driver:

  • battery charging time - from 3 to 5 hours;
  • torque - 11N / m;
  • comes with one battery;
  • can screw a 4.2x65 self-tapping screw into a tree without preliminary drilling;
  • you cannot work non-stop.

Therefore, hobbyist devices will have to be shut down more often to cool or recharge. This can significantly increase the repair or construction time, while a professional tool will allow you to complete the same amount of work in a shorter period of time.

When to upgrade from hobbyist to pro

Buying an expensive professional tool is a crucial step for a home craftsman.

The opinion of a forum member with a nickname Roracotta:

- It all depends on personal needs and preferences. If a person ceases to be satisfied with an amateur instrument, then he acquires a professional one. I know a few great craftsmen who have an amateur tool, and this does not affect the quality of their work. It is not profitable for a home craftsman to immediately purchase professional devices. I recommend that you fill your hand first, and with the growth of skill and experience, an understanding will come - whether it is necessary to acquire a professional instrument.

Vasily Ivanov:

- In my opinion, a professional tool is necessary if a person is professionally engaged in repair or construction.

Alexander Dubov:

- It is difficult to define a clear line. If you use a drill every six months to drill a couple of holes in the wall to hang the shelf, then it is irrational to buy a professional tool.

In some cases, a home craftsman should purchase so-called multitools - tools that perform several operations: from grinding and cleaning surfaces to cutting blanks. Their capabilities depend on the set of equipment. One such tool can replace at least two - a grinder and a saw.

Also, before buying a device, you should ask to think about what tasks will need to be solved in a year. If over time it will be necessary to work with the tool more often and more intensively, then it makes sense to spend a little more money today. Then you don't have to spend money on buying another more functional model again.

Alexander Dubov:

- An amateur model is not as functional as a professional one, and may not withstand heavy loads. If you have to use a drill for construction plasterboard partitions, finishing the facade of the house with siding or in large-scale construction, and the work will be carried out every day, for several weeks in a row, then you can immediately think about buying a professional-class model.

Regardless of whether it is an amateur or professional model, it must be of high quality and reliable!

What should be in the arsenal of a home master

Despite the fact that a home workshop can be staffed almost endlessly, there is a basic set that any home craftsman should have.

Alexander Dubov:

- The home master's arsenal can vary significantly depending on what tasks they face. This can be the renovation of an apartment or the construction of a private house or summer cottage. Many people work in or in a garage, where they need not only a tool, but also devices for organizing a workplace and personal protective equipment.

Here's what is most in demand in everyday life:

1. Drill - needed to drill holes in wood, metal or plastic.

2. Cordless screwdriver - indispensable for assembly work, where there are many threaded connections.

It is especially convenient in the absence of electricity. Universal option can become a cordless drill-screwdriver, which can not only tighten fasteners, but also drill holes.

3. An impact drill or hammer drill is required for making holes in concrete and other hard substrates.

If you only need to make a few holes in the concrete, you can only do with a hammer drill.

If you plan large-scale work on drilling brick, concrete or dismantling work (chipping tiles from walls, etc.), it is better to take a puncher.

4. Grinder (angle grinder) - required for cutting metal and stone (concrete, brick, ceramic tiles).

A roughing or grinding wheel can be installed on it for cleaning and grinding various surfaces.

5. Jigsaw - required for curly cutting of wood, plywood and laminate.

You must also have a set of hand tools.

Alexander Dubov:

- A universal kit is suitable for performing work of a different nature, which may include: a hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches and many attachments.

For specific tasks, there are carpentry, locksmith and automotive kits.

All information is collected on FORUMHOUSE The most complete set of professional is collected in the subject of our form. Read about when working with these devices. Find the answer to the question, which power tool.

Tools are not a luxury, but a necessity. If this thesis is obvious to you, read on - this article is for you.

Who is this article for

For a guy with hands. For the owner of the house. For an amateur to make art and enjoy both the result and the process. If you come to the idea of \u200b\u200bacquiring your own tools and think about their correct choice, I can help you.

Choosing the right tools is a task that does not have simple solution... There are many tools. They are different in purpose, quality and price. In mathematics, an equation with three unknowns always has many solutions. And you only need one thing - yours.

I have been working as a master of complex repairs for over 20 years. During this time, he thoroughly mastered several specialties. Many times I bought tools for myself, even more often I suggested to others, answered tricky questions. Imagine now that you are asking and I am answering. There is no reason for me to lie or compose. My advice is my advice. Another master may have a completely different view of the subject.

About quality and fakes

All further considerations apply only to quality products. Quality means that the tool:

  • Complies with the declared characteristics.
  • Doesn't require any modifications to start using it.
  • It will work out the intended service life, and will not break after 10 minutes of work.

Buying a quality tool is a combination of the right choice and luck. You can choose a very reliable model, but the copy you got will be defective. Bad luck. Because the chosen model is reliable "according to statistics", it is not easier for you.

A few words about "fakes". An electric tool is a complex product; it cannot be made in an underground workshop. Warranty and repair are a different matter. Official suppliers and “gray” dealers have very different views on these issues. The main governing document here is the Consumer Rights Protection Law. Read, study and use to your advantage.

Let us agree that all further considerations imply a "quality" tool in exactly the sense that I mentioned above.

The main "secret secret" ...

... buying a tool that you will be satisfied with - the correct answer to the only question "WHY?"

The fact is that bad there is no tool. There is a tool incorrectly selected.You wouldn't scold the microscope for being uncomfortable with hammering in nails, would you? - That's it. Everything that I will tell you next should help you deal with this main question: for what purpose do you need power tools.

Household or professional

Strictly speaking, tools are divided not into two, but into three categories: household (amateur), professional and industrial.

Household tool

Beautiful, low-power, inexpensive. Very often, such a tool is equipped with several working attachments so that the buyer can immediately try it out in action.

Low power does not allow working quickly and with large workpieces. The simplified design does not provide high accuracy (for example, the cutting accuracy of a circular saw). But for a home craftsman, all this is insignificant: there is nowhere to rush, and he does not aim at large projects.

It is foolish to spend a lot of money on a household tool. After all, most of the time he gathers dust in the far corner of the mezzanine.

Professional tool

This is already a means of production. The master earns money with his help, he helps to solve the task quickly and efficiently. He is obliged to serve for years and give confidence that he will not die suddenly in the midst of an order.

A professional tool allows you to work for a long time without interruption. Household in such situations overheats.

For a professional, short-lived "gadgets" do not pay off: you save hundreds, you lose thousands. The more a craftsman specializes, the more expensive his tools are. This is justified: filigree work is more expensive; time is also money.

It is impossible to draw a clear line between household and professional tools. And it is not necessary.

Versatile or specialized

I often hear the statement: "A universal instrument cannot be of high quality." - Nonsense!

First, there are not so many highly specialized tools. For example, a thermal gun, a plane, a tile cutter. The most requested tools are always multifunctional. A puncher can not only drill holes in concrete, but also knead the plaster, and tighten the screw if necessary, and hammer in the nail. What can we say about an electric jigsaw: it cuts anything, there would be a suitable file.

Secondly, to have combined devices often more convenient and more profitable. A small reversible drill with a keyless chuck is good both as a drill and as a screwdriver. Universal sawing machine successfully replaces two at once: miter saw for cross cutting and circular for longitudinal. Pay less, easier to wear.

Rechargeable or mains

It is very convenient - not to carry the power cord with you, not to get confused in extension cords, to drill-saw-tinker where there are no sockets at all.

But everything good in life comes at a price. Batteries also bill for disadvantages. And a very long one:

  • They are not enough for a long time, but you still have to charge from the network.
  • It takes time to recharge. And this is fraught with downtime.
  • The age of batteries is short: two, maybe three years. New ones need to be looked for and they are expensive (comparable to the price of the entire tool).
  • Battery models often weigh more than their network counterparts and can do less.
  • Battery powered tools with good parameters are expensive.

However, in many situations, the benefits of batteries outweigh them.

Options: soft start, speed control, reverse

Even models that are very similar in characteristics may differ in some "chips". The usefulness of some of them is obvious, others are worth explaining.

Reverse

The reverse allows you to change the direction of rotation of the electric motor, which is absolutely necessary for some tools. A drill without a reverse can never be used as a screwdriver. A jammed hammer drill bit without reverse is difficult to release.

Speed \u200b\u200bcontrol

Another option that greatly expands the capabilities of power tools. A drill, screwdriver, jigsaw and even a variable speed grinder are much more convenient to use than their counterparts with an unregulated speed.

But with the speed control, not everything is so obvious. How it is implemented is very important. It can be a separate regulator somewhere on the body of the device, which actually sets the speed. Or a regulator built into the start button. In this case, the turns are adjusted by pulling the trigger. The speed of the electric motor can be changed directly "on the go".

Smooth start

This feature is not common in power tools. Usually professional. The advantages of soft start are manifested in two situations:

  1. If you have to power the instrument from a portable generator. Conventional tools have a very high starting current. This overloads the generator and may cause it to stop. For soft-start models, the starting current is limited.
  2. At the moment of starting, when the electric motor spins up from zero to working speed in a split second, the recoil makes the device twitch in the operator's hands. This harms the accuracy of the work. Recoil is minimized for soft-start tools.

What else you need to consider in order to choose the right power tool

Storage and transportation

Once I needed to work pendulum saw with a broach. I have been comparing for a long time, reading reviews, wondering which parameters are more important to me. I chose. I ordered it and went to the store to pick it up.

The surprise was unpleasant: a box with a freshly bought saw did not fit in the trunk of my car and could hardly crawl into back door... The packaging could be thrown away immediately, but storing such a machine without packaging is also a problem.

The moral of this fable. Think about how you will store the tools when they are not needed. Many tools come with a convenient case. But having a hundred suitcases is also inconvenient. A small assembly drill is easier to keep in the same drawer along with hand toolthan in a separate case.

Durability and price

The budget, even a large one, is always limited. We try to buy things "for longer", with a large resource and rich functionality. And we pay an additional price for this. Is it always justified?

How many times have you bought a thing that you have used a couple of times and which is then lying around for many years. And it is a pity to throw it away (an expensive thing!) And there is no need for it and is not expected.

For one-time work you need a "disposable" tool. Professional craftsmen have seen this in practice. For apartment renovation it is more profitable to buy an inexpensive grinder. During its work at the facility, it will almost completely deplete its resource. In the end, it is easier to throw it away, and buy another for a new object.

Sets by type of work (apartment renovation, woodwork, metalwork, etc.)

There are many things to think about in order to choose the right tools. The reader's head is already spinning. You can go from the other end and pick up suitable option from "ready-made solutions". For example, these.

For the owner of a city apartment

We go from possible tasks and emerging problems. Drill a hole to hang a new cabinet, renovate some furniture. It is useful to have three tools:

  • Household with a set of drills from 6 to 12 mm.
  • Drill / screwdriver with mains supply, with reverse and keyless chuck. A set of drills and bits.
  • A simple jigsaw. A set of 4-6 files for different materials.

For a summer residence or a wooden country house

At the dacha there is always something to put hands on. The work is mainly related to wood, therefore, tools are needed primarily for wood. I will list some of the most needed ones in descending order of demand:

  • Hand circular saw.
  • with a good platform, speed control and pumping mode.
  • Powerful electric drill. Speed \u200b\u200bcontrol, reverse, good chuck for large diameter drills.
  • Grinder. Knives, axes, chisels, drills require frequent sharpening. Otherwise, working with them will turn into torture.
  • Chain Saw.
  • Pendulum saw. Disc diameter and functionality should be as large as budget allows.

If working with wood is your hobby

The tools to "make beautifully" become relevant for you. You cannot do without a variety of saws - see above. And also required tools for finishing:

  • Electric planer. The most important characteristic is weight. The lighter the tool, the more convenient it is.
  • Grinders: belt and surface grinders.
  • Fraser. With it, your products will reach a completely new "beauty level". Don't chase the cool, fancy router model. Better to spend this money on equipment.

Sets or all individually

On sale you can find sets: a drill, a jigsaw and a grinder in one suitcase. Or similar. There are also drills, saws and bits in special cells. This seems to be very convenient.

In fact, these "all-in-one" kits are monstrously low quality. The tools in them do not even pull on "disposable" ones. This set is good only for a gift to the enemy.

Each tool must be selected separately. The kits will not work.

  • A drill will not drill without a drill; a jigsaw will not cut without a file. Choosing the right tooling is just as important as choosing the right tool.

  • Tools, even the most, do not work on their own. Skills and the right way of working are irreplaceable.
  • Any mechanism needs care and maintenance. Periodic cleaning and lubrication prolongs tool life and keeps tools at peak performance.

Beware of incompetent sellers!

The real bottleneck in buying a tool is the seller in the store. Remember for yourself: you came to buy one, but then the seller has powdered his brains and you take something completely different from the store.

A good salesperson will solve your problem first, second, and third.

Watch the video in which he was filmed correct seller.)))

Conclusion

I hope I have convinced you that choosing a power tool is a difficult task. But also very grateful. The right tool is easy and pleasant to work with. Try it and see for yourself!

And if you still have questions - ask them in the comments and I will try to answer them.

Repairing an apartment, and especially building a house, is hard to imagine without the use of power tools. Electric planers, chain and circular saws, woodworking machines, cutters, jigsaws, drills, perforators, screwdrivers, flat and angle grinders (grinders) and wall chasers - this is not a complete list of tools designed to provide invaluable assistance in carrying out these works.

Not all builders or DIYers starting renovations have their own complete tool arsenal, represented by all leading models, for example, Bosch or Black & Decker. Usually, they revise the tool that is available, and buy the missing one.

The most common mistake in this case is the purchase of a multifunctional, universal tool, as well as insufficient attention to a number of its technical and operational parameters.

So that the work with the newly acquired tool is not interrupted and overshadowed by disappointment, both in the model itself and in its manufacturer, it is necessary to choose the right tool, and then use it correctly.

Most serious manufacturers work long and painstakingly to create each instrument model. After careful fine-tuning and serial production, all of them, as a rule, correspond to their passport parameters.

However, not all consumers comply with the operating rules, and most importantly, they do not always make the right choice of power tools.

This seemingly trivial task is actually not easy and responsible. Below are some guidelines to help you the right choice power tool.

Professional - non-professional

Power tools are professional and non-professional. Some companies, for example the aforementioned Bosch company, paint them in different colors to enhance the difference between these two types of tools.

A professional tool assumes its long-term, sometimes even round-the-clock, use in conditions of continuous work and heavy loads. Therefore, all of its nodes are designed by the manufacturer for such conditions.

A non-professional tool has a weaker design of its components and requires breaks in work at regular intervals.

The difference in price between professional and non-professional tools is significant. Therefore, if after repair or construction - there are no intentions to work in a construction team with your own tool, stop at a non-professional one.

You can take a professional one, in the expectation that it will serve for many years and decades. Yes, it can happen and, most likely, it will, but over such a period of time, the threat of its moral obsolescence is very likely.

Power supply

There are two types of power supply for household tools - from the AC mains or from the battery built into the body of the tool.

When purchasing a tool for the AC network, you need to make sure of the degree of its safety (see below), and if it is imported, then whether it is certified for use in our networks.

It is advisable to buy a tool powered by batteries only if regular work is to be done on non-electrified objects.

This tool is undoubtedly somewhat convenient - there is no connection to a power source, no wires are needed, which often interfere with hard-to-reach places... With him you can go out into the yard to the car or into the garage. But this same instrument also has a number of negative qualities.

Firstly, the short duration of work between recharges. Secondly, many batteries require constant use. This tool cannot be put for years without use - the battery can fail, and its replacement will cost about a third of the cost of the tool itself, and sometimes more. Finally, a battery-powered tool is quite expensive.

Safety

A power tool connected to a 220 V AC network must have reliable electrical protection.

Otherwise, it can become a source of not only a serious current shock with serious consequences, but also a current shock with a tragic outcome.

Most manufacturers have a special double insulation symbol on the instrument. It is a double square executed in various graphic designs. One of these designs is shown in the figure.

Double insulation provides two levels of protection against electric shock. The first level of insulation is done on all electrical components of the structure. The second level insulates all body parts of the tool. Double-insulated tools can be connected to the mains using a two-wire circuit - a plug with two contacts into a socket without grounding. Buy a tool only with double insulation. Preference should also be given to models that have special protection against accidental starting. This protection consists, as a rule, in the fact that the permission to press the main start button is confirmed by pressing another additional button.

Versatility

Many manufacturers strive to make their power tools, especially drills, multifunctional. Such a tool, in addition to the main function, can perform several additional ones. The market offers many models of drills that can drill, tap, work with screws, and besides, they can drill with a blow, i.e. perform the functions of a puncher. Such a tool is more suitable for carrying out a small amount of work or for use as a "duty officer" in household - in case you need to tweak or make something on your own.

Some tool suppliers go even further - they offer a set that includes a drill as the main power module and several attachments for it: a plane, an angle grinder, a circular saw, a jigsaw, etc. Such a set is usually made out in the form of a suitcase "For the Master". If the drill is also equipped with a hammer drill function, then at first glance such a set covers all requests.

You should not stop your choice on such sets. It must be remembered that each operation has its own peculiarity, requires its own power, tool speed and duration of work. Operating the tool with overload or at the limit of its capabilities leads to its failure.

There is no good universal tool in nature. In an amicable way - the drill should only drill, the hammer drill should only perforate, and the screwdriver should only wrap the screws.

It is possible to opt for a tool with additional functions only if their use amounts to 15 to 20% of the expected volume of work.

Design features

Besides the pleasant appearance the power tool should be comfortable and as light as possible.

At the same time, when choosing between a tool with a gearbox made of aluminum alloy and a tool with a gearbox made of impact-resistant plastic, it is better to choose an aluminum box, although this model may be a little heavier.

The service life of such a gearbox is longer, and the likelihood of damage by accidental external influences is negligible.

The tool body must be ergonomic, i.e. the shape of the body comfortable to hold and work, and the controls must be well accessible.

If the tool is equipped with an additional casing, then its design must be securely attached and must not create situations in which the consumer will be forced to remove it at least temporarily.

Important "little things"

For some types of tools, two devices can be called absolutely necessary - a maximum speed controller and a soft starter. With a soft starter, the tool can accelerate smoothly in proportion to the depth at which the trigger is pressed.

One big little thing is the torque limiting clutch, which protects the tool motor from unacceptable loads and extends its service life. The most common situation for creating an unacceptable load, for example for a drill, is a jammed drill during drilling.

Another essential detail is the presence of reverse rotation. This property will be especially useful for drills. Without reverse, it is impossible to cut a thread or unscrew a screw. And if the drill has a reverse, then one more device is absolutely necessary - a speed controller.

If a powerful and heavy tool is purchased, then it is desirable to have an inrush current limiter in it. Such a tool gains momentum more smoothly, does not "twitch" in the hands and does not create unnecessary load on the power grid.

For tools with a lot of dust emission (grinders, jigsaws, planers, cutters), it is advisable to have an adapter - a special part pipe on the tool body, with which you can connect a vacuum cleaner.

Selection of a specific product

If the model of the power tool is selected and it meets all the requirements, then you should proceed with the selection of a specific product.

There is no need to take the very first product offered by the seller - this way you can only buy tools from leading manufacturers who have well-established technology and final control.

Carry out several test runs on two or three products. The purpose of these inclusions is to determine the quality of the assembly of the power units of the tool. With their help, important conclusions can be made about how the gearbox is assembled, how the main pair of gears (grinders) is selected, whether the bearing assemblies are overtightened, etc.

Include sequentially suggested products and compare their level and nature of noise. For a better-assembled product, the noise should be even, without dips and subsequent amplifications, without knocks transmitted to the product body.

But the product, selected for the smoothest noise, must be subjected to another test. Turn it on and turn it off after reaching maximum speed. Notice how it stops. The reduction in revs should be smooth, gradual. With the engine off, at the last stages of stopping the product, the noises of all nodes and engagement are clearly audible.

The product should not stop rooted to the spot or close to it. If this happens, then something is wrong in it - the bearing assemblies are overtightened, there is no required clearance in the gearing, the electric motor has a bad "runout" and many more things that can only be discussed specifically knowing the design of the product. In such a product, a large amount of energy is spent on overcoming the resistance to rotation and its electric motor will quickly overheat, and the probability of its failure is quite high. In this case, you need to repeat the entire selection of the product from the beginning.

If the product stops smoothly, and some rare knocks do not appear in the noise of the rotating mechanism, this is what you need. Successful work!

Not a single repair can be carried out without a tool, but only brushes, a hammer, a hacksaw cannot be attributed here, the presence of an electric tool is always required, which has recently been absolutely impossible to do without. But, often when choosing a power tool, the question arises - how to choose and what to choose, of course, you want to buy something durable, beautiful, and that is inexpensive.

Power tool types

First, you need to figure out what type of power tools are. There is nothing complicated in this, modern manufacturers have only two types of electric tools:

  • Professional
  • Domestic

Each type of tool also has its own individual manufacturers specializing exclusively in one group, but there are also companies that produce tools, both professional and household.

Professional Power Tool Manufacturers:

Bosch (blue), Makita, Metabo, DeWalt, Kress, Hitachi, Stihl.

Household power tool manufacturers:

Bosch (different in green), Einhell, Eagle, Ferm, Black & Decker, Sparky, Skil, Domotec.

Which is better for the home: professional or household?

Just holding a professional tool in your hands is a pleasure, and what can we say about working with it, you can drill holes in the wall or grind the surface of the walls at least all day, or perform any other work without long interruptions. A professional power tool has its disadvantages and illnesses, but still, its design and structure are thought out in such a way that it is simple, easy and convenient to work with it, and its service life is much higher than that of a household one.

A household tool is arranged somewhat differently, due to its low cost, it has much lower characteristics of strength, convenience and weight, and what can we say about the permissible loads and other performance indicators, which with prof. the tool simply MUST NOT compare.

Definitely, for the house it is worth choosing the tool with which it will be more convenient and easier for you to work, but the situation is somewhat twofold, since here the family budget comes into force and if it does not allow you to buy a professional power tool, then you should abandon it for now.

Power system - where to stop?

The power supply system is one of the important characteristics in choosing any power tool and, oddly enough, it is divided into two types:

  • Rechargeable.
  • Electrical.

The first power system should be discarded as soon as it catches your eye. Remember - the battery will not allow you to make repairs for a long time, a couple of screws screwed into a thick concrete wall will completely consume the charge of both batteries.

IMPORTANT: Batteries not only drain quickly, but also require constant care, recharging and timely replacement. Please note that purchasing a new battery pack is approximately the same as purchasing a new power tool.

The electrical power system is the most the best option for any power tool. You do not have to constantly monitor the battery charge level, you do not need to change them and generally spend time on this, you can work as long as you need, since the power transmitted by electric wire inexhaustible.

However, when choosing a power tool, think logically that you are going to build or repair, if the work will take place only inside the house, then you can do without simple tool with mains power, and if you are going to carry the tool with you to the garage or somewhere else every now and then, then you should also buy a rechargeable copy.

What power tool might you need at home?

At home, all sorts of everyday problems can arise, which can be solved with only five types of power tools:

  1. Perforator.
  2. Jigsaw.
  3. Drill.
  4. Screwdriver.
  5. Angle grinder or grinder.

Let's get to know them better.

  • Rotary hammer - a tool that combines a drill and a jackhammer, used to punch holes in thick materials, for example, to drill holes in concrete wall.
  • A jigsaw is a tool used for cutting holes or sawing various types of materials, for example, plywood, chipboard, metal, plastic and others.
  • A screwdriver is a tool that acts as a screwdriver with an electric drive, with its help you can quickly and efficiently screw in small size screws or self-tapping screws into concrete, wood or any other surface.
  • A drill is a tool necessary for drilling holes of various diameters in various surfaces, for example, holes for dowel-nails.
  • The grinder is a tool that allows you to quickly and efficiently cut any material, from metal to concrete. It can also be used as a sander.

All these tools will be needed in one way or another on the farm, for example, why might you need a drill and screwdriver? For example, your wife wanted to change the curtain, what will you do: hire a craftsman or drill holes in the concrete wall yourself with a drill and use a screwdriver to fix the curtain on dowels or screws? What will be easier for you - to spend half an hour of your personal time or to shell out several thousand from your wallet for the work of a master?
