A plastic window, even the highest quality and correctly installed, requires periodic maintenance. It can last for several years without any problems, but over time friction can be felt when opening or closing. The second problem is that it blows out from under the seal, and the third is that the handle turns with effort. All these breakdowns are not difficult and can be easily eliminated and it is not at all necessary to call a master: adjusting plastic windows yourself is a matter of minutes. All that is needed is to tighten or loosen a few screws. The main thing is to know where and how. More on this further in photo and video format.

Winter and summer mode

Most often, adjustment of plastic windows is required for the new season: in winter, complete tightness is desirable, and in summer you can let in a little fresh air. This is achieved by adjusting the density of the sash pressure. It's easy to do it yourself. When you figure it out, be surprised how elementary everything is ...

The window sash is pressed against the frame with pins. These are such movable metal protrusions on the side surface of the sash. When the handle is turned, they go behind the counter metal plates mounted on the frame. In order to be able to adjust the tightness of the sash and frame, they have an eccentric - either they are made of an oval shape, or in the center of the round protrusion there is an adjustment with an offset center. By changing the position of the pins (see photo), you change the degree of pressure, that is, you eliminate the draft from under the sash.

As you can see, the shapes of the locking tabs can be different. Different tools can be used to adjust them. If your window has such eccentrics as in the figure on the left - oval-shaped protrusions - their position is changed with the help of pliers: clamp it and turn it in the right direction.

If the lug is round as shown on the left, it can have a slot for a screwdriver or hex wrench. Having examined them, you can easily understand which tool you need: a regular screwdriver or a hexagon # 4. Insert the key or screwdriver into the slot and also turn it into the desired position.

Expose all the protrusions to the same position. Please note that they are located not only on one side of the sash - the outside, but also on the inside (at least one, but there is), and can also be at the top and bottom. Here you put all the available locking lugs in the same position, otherwise the frame will warp and blow from under it.

When adjusting the fittings of plastic windows, remember that a weak pressure corresponds to the summer mode of closing plastic windows, standard or strong - to the winter one. If you carry out maintenance work in the winter, first set the standard position and check if there is blowing. Immediately squeeze the rubber bands on new ones PVC windows do not advise. In this position, the rubber seal installed around the perimeter is strongly pressed. Because of this, over time, it loses its elasticity. A normal seal is guaranteed for 15 years, but still ... If the pressure is set to the maximum one immediately, the rubber will deteriorate faster. As a result, once again setting the winter position on plastic windows, you will find that it is still blowing from under the sash, and the elastic is all in cracks. This means it's time to change the seal. This is also not very difficult, but it takes more time, and the rubber still needs to be bought.

So: the winter and summer position of plastic windows is set by changing the position of the locking lugs - pins. Everything is described in detail in the video below. After viewing, adjusting plastic windows on your own will finally cease to be a problem.

How to adjust the window so that it doesn't blow

Sometimes, plastic windows, even after transferring the pins to the position of strong pressure, are not airtight - blowing from under the sash and replacing the elastic does nothing. This usually happens when the house shrinks. In this case, the window is said to be sagging. When this happens, contact between the locking tab and the striker plate is lost. When turning the handle, the protrusion-pin should go behind the plate, pressing the sash. If this does not happen and drafts arise, the heat is blown out of the room.

Where are the pins (lugs) usually located

When subsiding plastic window the adjustment is different: you need to move the sash groaning so that those protrusions that do not reach the plates catch on them.

First, you need to decide which of the trunnions do not reach the locking plates. This is done mechanically. First, inspect the sash, remember where there are protrusions. Close the window. Grasp the sash frame at the pins and pull it towards you.

If there is contact, the frame remains stationary; if not, it moves. So you check in which places there is no contact and determine in which direction you need to move the sash. This is done by adjusting the bottom and top loop.

Bottom hinge adjustment

If the PVC window is not closed somewhere below, we will move the sash using the lower hinge. There are two adjustments here: one in the horizontal plane - moves closer to the hinge or further from it, and the second - in the vertical one - raises or lowers the sash by a couple of millimeters.

To move the lower part of the sash closer or further to the hinge, it is opened. At the bottom of the song there is an adjustment hole for a hex key (sometimes - for an "asterisk").

A hexagon is inserted into it, by turning it clockwise, the lower corner approaches the loop, against - it moves away. After moving the sash slightly, try to close / open it. Once the result is achieved, stop. If the resource is unscrewed all the way, and there is no result, return everything to its original position: this is not the adjustment.

This screw can correct the situation if, when closing the window, the sash touches the frame at the bottom. By bringing it a little closer to the hinge, you will eliminate this malfunction.

There is a second adjusting screw on the bottom hinge. To get to it, you need to put the sash on ventilation and remove the decorative cover. It can be removed easily, you need to pull the lower edge towards you a little (by 1-2 mm) and pull it up. After removing the protective cap, you will see a recess in the upper part. A 4 mm hexagon is inserted into it. By turning it clockwise, the sash rises slightly, against - it drops.

It is described in detail how to remove the decorative overlay on the hinge, how and how to adjust the lower hinge on the PVC window in the next video.

Adjusting the top loop

If the upper corner does not close on the plastic window, you need to move it... To do this, open the window at least 90 °. Less is possible, but it will be inconvenient to work. There is a hinge on the sash at the top. It differs in design from the bottom one, but it also has a hexagon hole.

The adjustment screw is on the side. By rotating it, we move the flap further from the hinge (if the pins farthest from the hinge do not close) or closer to the hinge. One moment - a gap of several millimeters should remain between the sash and the hinge: it is necessary for the swing-out mechanism to enter there. Therefore, having turned the key half a turn, check how the window opens / closes.

Sometimes this adjustment does not help either. Then it takes press the upper corner against the frame. There is another screw for this - on the swing-out mechanism. To have access to this screw, you will have to open the window in two positions at once. To do this, open the sash, press the blocker. It usually comes in two designs - in the form of a locking loop or a tongue (see the photo below).

The blocker is pulled back to the stop, holding it, turning the handle for airing, pulling the upper edge of the sash slightly towards itself, open the turning mechanism. A device that keeps the sash open. One of the plates has a projection for the same hex key. By turning it, you can adjust the tightness of the upper corner of the sash. It is necessary if the upper corner of the plastic window does not close.

You can see how to adjust the plastic windows yourself again in the video. Explanations on the case, available without further ado.

Plastic window does not close

Sometimes the geometry of the window opening changes so much that even by moving the sash to the maximum, we do not get the desired result: the plastic window does not close. What to do in this case? If there is an adjustment on the counterpart, as in option a and b in the photo, try to do with a little blood - twist it here. The principle is the same: insert the hex wrench and rotate it clockwise, pushing it to the maximum.

If a few millimeters are missing, not in depth, but sideways, then will have to be installed under the counterpart of the lining. They are cut from a piece of white plastic. The maximum thickness is 3-4 mm. First, by unscrewing the screws, the stops are removed. Two gaskets are cut out: one is installed from the bottom, the other from the side. As a result, the stop moves 3 mm into the sash.

They are first installed on the desired place of the lining, on them there is a stop, which is screwed on with a self-tapping screw. The protruding pieces of plastic are cut off with a sharp knife. Check if the window is closed or not.

If this did not help, there is another way: to move the sash frame. It is quite elastic and can be moved about 5 mm. The procedure is as follows:

If you look closely, you can see that the frame is slightly curved. The main thing is that the window should now close. In 99% of cases, this is sufficient. If you are unlucky, and all these tricks did not work, you need to remove the slopes and also bend the frame.

You can watch all the steps described above in the video.

Adjusting and replacing handles

A fairly common problem: the handle is difficult to turn. If the problem is not eliminated in time, due to the excessive efforts applied, it breaks down, leaving a short stump, which you will definitely not be able to do anything.

First, how to make the handle close easily again. The locking mechanisms must first be cleaned and lubricated. First, the accumulated dust and dirt are removed, wiped dry, then all moving parts are lubricated. You need to use clean oils, free of alkalis and acids. The best option - machine oil, you can use any analog or modern spray can.

After lubricating all rubbing and moving parts, open / close the sash several times, turn it on its hinges. Everything should move smoothly, without jerking.

If there are problems now, most likely in the process of adjusting or changing the geometry of the window, the blocker has shifted. It should fit easily into the counterpart and snuggle against the frame. Then the handle turns easily. Move the flap and try again.

Now how to change the handle. The fasteners on which it is held are hidden under a decorative strip. If you look closely, you will see that there is a thin cap. Grab it with your fingers or pry it with your nails, pull it slightly towards you and turn it to one side. Two bolts open. They are unscrewed, the handle is removed, a new one is put in its place.

We've covered some of the most common problems and how to fix them. Now, not only the adjustment of plastic windows is not a problem for you, you can make minor repairs yourself. You can also carry out service yourself (lubrication once a year).

Plastic windows have long established themselves as reliable and durable frames that preserve temperature regime premises and not allowing drafts to penetrate. Many people install plastic, but do not carry out maintenance and forget about the intricacies of use in the form of switching to a seasonal mode and other necessary little things.

Correct adjustment of plastic windows and timely maintenance are the basis of a long service life, excluding sudden expensive repairs.

Sash adjustment

Often adjustment window fittings it is necessary when the quality of installation work is poor, when the structure is not aligned vertically and horizontally. It is also required in case of natural wear and tear, when the sashes begin to touch the frame and fittings. In the case of a loose fit, the windows begin to let in cold air and drafts appear. Instructions for self-adjusting plastic windows will help you save a significant amount on the services of third-party specialists.

To work you will need simple tools:

 • hex key;
 • screwdriver.

Examine the window to determine the installed fittings, since the adjustment will directly depend on this factor. In one case, the sash will need to be removed, in the other it will be sufficient to tighten the fastening screw.

Horizontal and vertical adjustment

On the horizontal side, the sash must be adjusted in the event of a frame bevel, provoked by shrinkage of the structure, incorrect opening of the window or loose fastenings of the hardware elements. To fix the problem, go to the top window hinge insert the hexagon wrench by turning clockwise until the leaf is far enough apart.

In this case, the lower part of the oppositely standing element should drop noticeably. The lower hinge is adjusted from the outside. The displacements are 2 mm on average.

Diagram of the main points of position correction

The window can be vertically adjusted using hingelocated at the bottom of the frame. The protective cap is removed from the loop and the rotational movements of the tuning mechanism begin. The movement of the tool in the clockwise direction will raise the sash, the movement in the opposite direction will lower it.

Adjustment of plastic structures should be smooth, so that the mechanisms move no more than 1 mm in one go.

The leaf stopped closing: solution to the problem

The pressure must be adjusted when the window is difficult to move from open position in a closed one. Often the reason is the lock device that does not allow turning the handle. The exact sequence of actions depends on the specific manufacturer. Some units are equipped with a thin plate equipped with a spring on the inside, which must be pressed and the handle turned to close the window. Other models are equipped with a tongue under the handle - when you press on it, the lock of the adjusted mechanism is removed.

If the sash stops closing, it is necessary to unlock the lock

In a situation where the window still does not want to close, a little repair will be required. It is necessary to open the sash, find the element of the mechanism that serves as a catch of the tongue, unscrew and install a thin plate on the inside. The solution helps to move the mechanism closer to the reciprocal element. As a result, the area of contact will increase, allowing you to easily close the window.

Clamping density adjustment

It is quite simple to adjust the clamp of a plastic window if you follow a simple sequence of actions. Find in the area of the handle located at the side end, the system of eccentrics, which serve as the main adjusting tool.

Winter and summer modes are adjustable with pins

Their external design may be slightly different depending on the manufacturer of the window, but the principle of operation is the same, whatever their variety.

Eccentric appearance options

When it is necessary to adjust the pressure on the side of the window hinges, you need to turn to the adjusting screw located on the bottom of the hinges. For swing-out sashes, additional adjustment is made using the top hinge.

In order to successfully get to the adjustment bolt located on the scissors next to the upper hinge, you need to open the window, push the locking tab and set the handle to ventilation mode. When it is necessary to press the sash against window frame, the bolt rotates clockwise. Reverse rotation will weaken the tightness of the junction.

By adjusting the swing-out scissors, you can adjust the degree of pressure of the window

The way to adjust the window fittings depends on the manufacturer, since there are varieties that are adjusted with screwdrivers located on the side of the handles. Others only fit hexagons. In order to increase the pressure, the bar is gently shifted to the street side. If you look at the hinges, you can see the retractable pressure elements. A smaller extension will provide a loose fit, while a larger extension will press the sash firmly against the frame.

Cleaning fittings from accumulated dust

Once every 5-7 years, windows need deep cleaning from accumulated dirt in hard-to-reach places... Without cleaning them in time, sooner or later you will have to repair them, since the functioning will be disrupted. The repair is quite laborious in terms of the weight of the structure, so it is advisable to carry out work with assistants.

Adjustment scheme of elements to bring them clean and tidy:

 1. remove the sash from the hinges by removing the overhead frame elements;
 2. take out the upper axle;
 3. remove the sash from the lower hinges;
 4. gently set aside.

Removal of elements must be done with an assistant

The sash surface is carefully inspected and the screws fixed to it are unscrewed. The parts of the mechanism are well washed, preferably using specialized solutions that are easy to apply with a brush. After that, the structure is well dried in the fresh air or with the help of cold air from a hair dryer. Each driving mechanism is lubricated. The fittings are assembled in the reverse order and installed in their original place.

Before assembling the window, all fittings must be lubricated

We repair window handles

Questions about adjusting window frames are quite often associated with the work of handles, since from time to time they can break or lose functionality. It is important to remember that the handles of a plastic window require periodic attention, since more often than other parts are subject to rapid wear: sometimes they need repair or complete replacement.

Timely adjustment is the best solution to the problem of handles losing functionality. So, a pretty loose handle requires tightening the fasteners, which can be done in a matter of minutes, since this breakdown is one of the simplest types of repair work.

Find a rectangle-shaped decorative strip under the handle, lightly hook on both edges with your fingers, and rotate 90 °. There are a couple of bolts under the cover that need to be tightened with a Phillips screwdriver.

Under the decorative cover there are bolts that are tightened with a screwdriver

To lift the plate covering the bolts, do not use tools, since there is a possibility of damaging the profile surface and disrupting the shape of the plug element.

Another common problem is a sticking handle that does not periodically turn required angle... In this case, lubricate the fasteners with machine oil using a cotton swab. A special spray or silicone grease will also work.

Handle sticking can be solved by lubricating the fasteners with oil

For replacement, the handle is rotated 90 ° and the cover in the form of retaining screws is removed. The unscrewed element can be easily replaced by installing the screws in the same sequence. Repair of plastic windows with a complete replacement of the fittings is inevitable if the handle is thoroughly jammed. Cases are extremely rare, but they do happen.

Do-it-yourself adjustment will not be difficult for the owners, since the whole procedure is quite simple. It is only important to approach the setup with a share of responsibility and clearly follow the instructions.

Hello dear readers!

General cleaning was carried out at home.

While my wife was washing the windows, it turned out that the handles were a little loose. It is easy to tighten them if you know how to do it. I have already taught my wife.

Now I collected my thoughts and decided to write a useful post for you.

I tried to collect all the tips in detailed instructions, in which you will find not only information on customizing knobs, but also much more.

You just have to try them in practice.

Active use metal-plastic windows in today's reality is caused by a number of advantages of these structural elements.

And if such indicators of windows as reliability, durability and aesthetics were originally incorporated in their design, then in order to obtain high-quality consumer criteria (heat, sound insulation), it is advisable to carry out maintenance systems.

Moreover, in order for the adjustment of plastic windows to be done at the highest level with your own hands, it will be enough just to stock up on a minimal set of tools (a set of "asterisk" keys, pliers, a set of hexagons, screwdrivers) and accessories.

The list of basic faults that can be eliminated by the consumer independently includes the following items:

 • Sash rubbing against the frame in the process of opening - closing;
 • Loose fit of the sash to the base of the window frame;
 • Broken handle.

DIY PVC window adjustment

To begin with, it is advisable to consider in detail the method of adjusting the window. So, if it is necessary to change the location of the sash (for free opening), then it is advisable to perform a number of sequential procedures:

 1. Open a window;
 2. Turn the adjusting screw located in the end part of the sash (area of the upper hinge) 3 - 5 turns clockwise;
 3. Close a window;
 4. Remove the protection from the lower hinge;
 5. Using the hexagon, turn the adjusting screw of the lower hinge 3 - 5 turns clockwise;
 6. Check the operability of the window and the absence of rubbing during operation, and, if necessary, re-adjust the element.

In a situation where it is required to strengthen the degree of adherence of the sash to the base of the frame, proceed as follows. First, for these purposes, a system of eccentrics is used, which are located at the end of the sash from the side of the handle.

Helpful advice!

When it is required to strengthen the degree of adherence of the sash to the base of the frame, a system of eccentrics is used

For this, the eccentrics with pliers or a hexagon must be rearranged to the appropriate position.

In some window models, the designs of the eccentrics are made in such a way that in order to adjust them, it is enough to just pull the eccentric towards you, then make the necessary crank, and only after that release the eccentric (it will be pressed by the spring).

In general, experts recommend performing a similar procedure for adjusting the eccentrics twice a year (off-season), increasing or decreasing the degree of pressing.

However, this method can be used to adjust the pressure of the window from the side of the handle. When the user needs to strengthen the pressing of the sash from the side of the canopies, then they act in a different way.

So, if it is necessary to ensure a stronger pressing of the sash (from the side of the awnings) window construction swivel type, then use the adjusting screw on the lower hinge.

When it is required to carry out a similar procedure for the swing-out structure, it will be necessary to perform additional adjustment of the window sash clamping due to the upper hinge.

For this, the procedures should be performed in the following sequence:

 1. Open the sash;
 2. Turn the handle of the sash to the "airing" position (simulating the closing of the window by pressing the lock);
 3. To increase the clamping of the sash, turn the adjusting screw on the hinge clockwise, while to loosen the clamp, turn the adjuster in the opposite direction.

Certain types of fittings for windows are adjusted using special answers (usually located on the window frame from the side of the handle) which can be adjusted using hex keys.

So, for a stronger clamping of the window sash to the base of the frame, it will be necessary to shift the counterpart outward (towards the street). They also use clamping mechanisms located on the frame from the side of the awnings.

Their adjustment is carried out with a hexagon, while a stronger clamping of the sash to the frame will be provided when the mechanism tongue is pulled out more strongly.

A fairly common defect in a metal-plastic window is considered to be tight rotation of the handle. This is often caused by the fact that the hardware does not have sufficient lubrication.

In this case, the repair of the window is reduced to the banal lubrication of the locking mechanism and all rubbing elements with machine oil or aerosol lubricant (for example, WD-40).

A similar method is provided for the adjustment of the doors of the balcony blocks.

In a situation where it is necessary to completely replace the handle, pull the decorative cover on the handle with your fingers and then turn it 90 º (in order to free access to the screws).

By unscrewing the mounting screws, the handle can be easily removed. And the procedure for attaching a new handle must be performed in reverse order.

It should be noted that the guarantee of long-term and high-quality operation of the window depends on the timely performance of service operations and, even in the absence of visual defects, it is advisable to perform these procedures at least once a year.

For this, all major components should be lubricated, and the rubber seals should be moistened. Also, a few words must be said about the rules for using windows:

 • Turn the window handle only when the sash is completely closed;
 • Avoid the presence of foreign objects in the free cavity of the window frame;
 • Operate the windows taking into account the fulfillment of all finishing works (slopes).

However, it should be noted that in spite of the elementary nature of the described methods, troubleshooting and window adjustment should be started only after a detailed acquaintance with the principle of operation of the installation.

Otherwise, the more correct method would be the help of specialists in this area.

For correct and safe adjustment of plastic windows, it is necessary to know several features of their design in order to avoid any damage.

Next, we will tell you how to solve some of the problems that may arise with plastic windows, and also share recommendations on how to properly adjust plastic windows.

In order to independently adjust the plastic window, you need to use a 4-mm hex key, which is popularly referred to as a “quarter”.

Types of adjustments

1. Consider first the horizontal adjustment of metal-plastic windows. To properly adjust the window, it is necessary to use the top and bottom hinges, which have a hole for a hex key.

By turning the hex key clockwise, the sash is pulled to the hinge. The bottom of the window located opposite the hinge should rise slightly.

2. If the hinge is to be moved away from the sash, the rotation of the key must be correspondingly counterclockwise, which will lead to a slight lowering of the bottom of the sash.

The adjustment of the lower hinge inside the room is done when the window is open, and outside when it is closed.

The adjustment process is carried out in the same way in two versions. With the adjustment in the horizontal plane, the frame can be moved up to 2 millimeters, and the bevel can also be eliminated.

3. Vertical adjustment of the window is carried out at the expense of the lower hinge. The hex key is placed under the cap that covers the hinge.

Elimination of frame bevel in the vertical direction is also possible up to 2 millimeters.

4. Adjustment of the sash mode is carried out by eccentrics, which are located along the perimeter of the PVC window. When turning the handle, the eccentrics should go beyond the pressure pads, which are also located along the perimeter of the window.

Turning the eccentric to the right, you can strengthen the window clamps to the frame, when rotating to the left - the clamp will weaken. There is a risk on the eccentric, which shows the degree of clamping.

If the risk is directed to the seal, the window is strongly pressed against the frame, but if it is weakly against the outside. In order to rotate the eccentrics, you can use pliers or a wrench.

Sometimes plates are used for pressing, which are located on the sash of the window.

The appropriate level of pressure of the window to the frame depends on the season.

It is quite clear that the pressure should be strong in winter and weakened in summer. The pressure can be adjusted in the range of 0.8 millimeters.

5. The buttonhole presser can be adjusted to both buttonholes at once or only to one buttonhole. This will depend on what hardware is installed on your window.

If necessary, adjust the lower hinge, first remove the cap, and then turn the bolt in the desired direction, which is located perpendicular to the window.

6. Adjustment of the upper hinge is possible only with the hinged sashes. When adjusting the upper hinge, the frame must be supported, as it will only be held by the lower hinge.

Some PVC windows are equipped with a lock that prevents the open sash from opening. Locks are a lever or clip.

In order to flip open an open plastic window, it is necessary to turn the knob to the ventilation mode while pressing the lock.

When adjusting PVC windows is necessary

With the help of adjustment, many problems of metal-plastic windows can be eliminated:

 • The sash of the window sags, which is why the casement bottom touches the plastic frame. A horizontal or vertical adjustment will do.
 • Vertical or horizontal sash displacement has caused the middle sash to touch the frame. To eliminate the problem, it is necessary to displace the sash evenly to one side.
 • When air enters through the seal, it is necessary to adjust the sash pressure.
 • To adjust the loose handle, turn the plate, which is at the base, at a right angle and tighten all the screws with a screwdriver. The base of the handle can also be equipped with a ventilation regulating plate - "combs".
 • With the help of machine oil, you can get rid of problems such as tight cranking of the handle. You can use any brushes or cotton swabs at hand to lubricate hinges, cams, hold-downs and pads.

When is adjustment required? Here are the most common signs that a window is ripe for adjustment.

 • When opening (closing) the sash clings to the fittings or to the box.
 • There is a noticeable draft from the window.
 • The handle is loose or, on the contrary, becomes very tight.
 • When the window is open, the handle is jammed and the window does not close.

I want to warn you right away that some problems are the result of a violation of manufacturing technology or installation. Unfortunately, not all of them can be corrected by adjustments ...

Let's consider the adjustment of balcony doors separately!

Before we start studying the topic "Adjusting the fittings of plastic windows", let's define the terminology. The hardware consists of several main units, each of which is responsible for its own section.

The part that is on the sash is called "Locking mechanism", and the parts fixed to the frame are called "Replies".

For work we need the following:

 • A set of keys - hexagons.
 • A set of nozzles - stars.
 • Spatula for working with double-glazed windows.
 • Putty knife.
 • Rubber hammer.
 • Glass panes of different thicknesses.
 • Screwdrivers and pliers.
 • Lubricant for fittings.
 • Soft brush.

Much of the above may not be useful to you, but when planning to adjust the fittings of plastic windows, it is advisable to prepare thoroughly.

Before moving on to practical exercises, I will make a small digression.

Note!

IT IS NOT WORTH doing the adjustment of the plastic window fittings on your own in two cases.

First, if the warranty has not expired. It is still unknown to get something with you, but you will lose the guarantee for sure.

Secondly, if you are not sure about your capabilities. In this case, it will be more expedient to turn to professionals.

Well, with those who are used to solving their problems on their own, we go further.

Now let's define which node is capable of what.

The lower hinge allows you to move the bottom of the sash up - down, left - right and adjust the pressure.

The pins of the locking mechanism are responsible for pressing the entire sash.

In some types of fittings, the clamp is regulated by replies on the frame.

With the upper part of the swing-out mechanism, called "scissors", you can move the top of the sash to the left - right and work with a clamp.

Now we will take each case and analyze it in detail. Move on.

Let's continue the analysis of the topic How to adjust plastic windows.

What if the bottom of the sash from the handle side clings to the otvetka or the box - the sash sagged. I want to say right away that on large, heavy doors, there MUST be a "microlift".

This mechanism, at the moment of closing the sash, resting on a special otvetka, raises the sash by 2-3 mm, thereby relieving the load from the rest of the fittings. For instance, balcony door it is unacceptable to install without a lift!

And so, the sash sagged. This is treated either by lifting the sash up, or by moving the bottom of the sash towards the sagging side, and the top towards the hinges.

To raise the sash, remove the decorative cap from the lower hinge, insert the hexagon from above into the hole and tighten the stop screw.

To shift the bottom of the sash, rotate the screw on the frame part of the hinge.

The top of the sash can be moved with a screw located in the scissors from the side of the upper hinge. To get to it, you need to open the sash and rotate the screw to the desired sash position.

In general, try not to keep the doors open for a very long time, so as not to sag.

 • The handle is loosened - we take the decorative plate under it, turn it 90 * and tighten two screws. If, on the contrary, the handle began to turn more and more difficult, you can hear a crunching sound in the mechanism, then it’s time to make a complete revision of the window fittings.
 • How to adjust plastic windows, if the handle is turned further, to the "airing" position, the sash falls out and hangs on scissors, resting on one lower hinge. This means that the blocker did not have time to work.

It is usually located on the locking mechanism in the area of the handle and when the sash is open or folded back for ventilation, it is located at an angle to the locking mechanism. In this position, the blocker does not allow turning the handle where it is not necessary.

In our case, to return the sash to its place, you need to take the plate to the sealing rubber with your finger, set the sash to the “just open” position (press the top of the sash from the hinge side) and turn the handle to the desired position.

How to adjust plastic windows if drafts appear.

First of all, carefully inspect the sealing rubber on the sash and frame.

If diaper rash, scuffs and tears are clearly visible, the rubber should be changed. If you decide that the rubber is in order, then it is necessary to increase the clamping of the sash to the frame.

First, check the coincidence of the locking rods (pins) on the sash with the replies on the frame, as in "Adjusting the balcony door".

On the lower hinge, a screw is responsible for the clamp, located in the body of the part of the hinge that is on the sash. Depending on the brand of accessories, you need a screwdriver, a hexagon or an asterisk.

But, unfortunately, not all manufacturers install a lower hinge with pressure adjustment on the windows.

In this case, you will have to adjust the pressure on the hinge side with “scissors”, “hidden hold-down” and a pin on the “middle lock”.

The eccentric screw located on the scissors is responsible for the clamp in the area of the upper hinge.

To make it available, we do this:

 1. open the sash
 2. press the blocker to the rubber with your finger
 3. turn the handle up
 4. and, carefully, move the top of the sash away from the frame so that the scissors are visible.

The blocker can be of another design, where the blocking is produced by a movable plate, which is pressed by the sash to the frame.

This means that you need to press the plate to unlock.

We insert the hexagon into the eccentric head and turn it in the right direction (each brand has its own direction).

Pressing the blocker, we return the sash to its place.

Helpful advice!

On the overall flaps, from the hinge side, as a rule, a hidden clamp is also installed.

It is also regulated (usually with a hexagon) according to the "winter - summer" type.

When rotating, it extends - the pressure plate moves in, thereby changing the clamping force.

If installed unregulated, and you are convinced that it does not work, you need to change.

Depending on the brand of fittings, this is done either with a hexagon or with pliers. On some pins, the eccentric is made in the form of a ring, which must be pulled from the sash with your fingers and turned to the desired angle.

There are brands of fittings for which the clamp is commanded by otvetki, I think you can decide. And in general, adjusting plastic windows is a very creative process! Especially the first time.

After all the necessary screws have been turned, we check the clamp.

This is done like this: tear off a strip of paper a palm wide and two palms long from a newspaper, and clamp it between the sash and the frame, where there are no answers. If the strip is easy to pull out, add a clamp.

So you check several points from all sides.

Yes, I missed one point. It happens after lifting or tilting the sash, the trunnions begin to cling to the rods or, on the contrary, do not reach them. In this case, the answers need to be shifted in the right direction.

We unscrew the self-tapping screw securing the otvetka to the frame and, without removing the otvetka itself, by lightly tapping with the pliers on the otvetka along the frame, we shift it in the right direction. We tighten the screw.

And now - the most dangerous type of adjustment of plastic windows. This is a glass unit adjustment. There is a situation when the sash is raised all the way, and its lower part, from the side of the handle, clings to the frame.

That is, the slack is greater than the range of the adjustment stop in the lower hinge. I will say right away that under normal conditions such a case practically does not occur, which means that one of the three points was violated:

 1. Correct assembly.
 2. Correct installation.
 3. Correct operation.

Perhaps all three! But, as they say, "it's too late to drink Borjomi" - we will treat. Another case is the sagging "swing" sash. In order to save money, such sashes are often equipped with UNREGULATED fittings.

That is, the usual loops and constipation. Here, adjustment is possible ONLY with a glass unit.

So let's get started: using the screw in the lower hinge, we lower the sash down as far as possible.

Carefully take out the glazing beads with a spatula (the sash is closed !!!), holding the glass unit (it is better to work together).

We mark the shtapiki “lion”, “right”, “top” and take out the glass unit itself. We carefully put it on something soft (rug, rug) against the wall, laying from the wall, for example, several newspapers.

Then we open the sash and put spacers on the frame in the very corner from the side of the handle, so that the sash rises by 5-7mm when closing. We close the sash, as if pushing (lifting) it onto the gaskets.

If we notice that at the moment of closing the entire sash rises, and not only the desired edge, then in the area of the scissors, on the sash, we insert another one, not letting the sash up.

Thus, in the place of mashing the sash, a gap (margin) of about 5 mm was obtained.

We insert the double-glazed window and tightly fix it on all sides with gaskets, according to the technology, helping ourselves with a spatula. The gaskets should be inserted very tightly, but neatly - glass is glass.

We hammer the glazing beads with a rubber mallet, starting with the short ones.

We check the operation of the sash by removing the linings from the box. If necessary, we correct the adjustments, achieving normal operation.

All this can be avoided by installing a "microlift" on the sash.

In some types of fittings, a blocker can be adapted for the role of a lift. But only those that have a fairly powerful blocker are suitable.

This is done like this: the blocker response is installed in such a way that when the sash is closed, the blocker does not just press against the rubber, but, as it were, runs into the counter, raising the sash by 2-3mm.

But you need to verify very accurately so as not to break the lock. By the way, if you install a microlift on an unregulated sash, you won't need to open it.

It was the adjustment of plastic WINDOWS, but we also have doors ...

We remove the old rubber.

We clean the groove from the remnants of glue and sealant. Now we need to determine what kind of rubber we had.

Leading profile manufacturers mainly use four types of rubber:

 • Rehau
 • KBE 228

We determine which one we have. If the seal is not similar to any of these types, we take any one with a similar leg size.

If you have a choice, it is better to take German - the service life is almost twice as long.

Insert new rubber starting from the top of the window (door).

Try not to stretch the rubber, but to collect it. Insert the seal carefully in the corners.

Then tuck the tail end to end with the other end of the seal, smearing the ends with glue.

The help of one more person will not be superfluous here.

Turn the handle to the "open" position, but do not open the sash.

Remove the decorative cover from the upper hinge.

With a flat screwdriver (knife, chisel, etc.) we pull out the pin of the upper hinge, it is possible not to the end, but only to disconnect the hinge parts.

We slightly tilt the sash towards ourselves and, lifting it up, remove it from the lower hinge.

We take out the upper loop (scissors) from the groove to make it more convenient to work.

We change the seal, as on the frame.

We assemble the mechanism and put the sash in place. We drive the pin of the upper hinge and put on the decor.

We close the sash and check the work, if necessary, adjust the adjustments.

Now manufacturers are offered profiles with rubber already glued in. When a window (door) is assembled from such a profile, the rubber in the corners, when welding, is alloyed.

If in the middle of the profile it is difficult to remove the rubber, but it is possible, then it cannot be pulled out in the corners.

We do this. We pull out all the rubber that lends itself, helping ourselves with a screwdriver or something else.

In the corners, we mill a groove for rubber with a 4 mm drill or a vertical mill of the same diameter.

We clean the milling site with a knife or chisel.

We insert new rubber.

Detailed instructions for adjusting plastic windows

Currently, the popularity of plastic windows is no longer even in doubt, because they are not only of high quality, but also at an affordable cost. And this is not to mention that they are easy to use and excellent noise protection.

But, despite this, even the highest quality windows require maintenance, so from time to time it is necessary to call a master to adjust them. Many people ask the question: "Is it possible to adjust plastic windows without calling the master?"

In fact, it is not as difficult as it might seem. Therefore, after reading this article, you yourself can deal with minor issues. Remember that this way you save not only money, but also time.

Now let's move on to the instructions themselves and consider the main problems.

What are the most common problems that you can fix yourself?

Most often, you can encounter the following types of malfunctions, which can be easily eliminated on your own:

 • The sash touches the frame from the side or bottom when closing
 • The sash does not fit tightly enough to the frame
 • Striker plate wear
 • The handle is locked when the sash is open in the "closed" mode, the window does not close
 • The sash is closed, but the window does not close, the handle does not turn
 • Broken handle

Note!

After reading this article, you should be able to fix minor issues yourself.

For repair, we may need the following tool:

 • Pliers
 • Hexagon (4 mm)
 • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flat)
 • Set of "stars"

Briefly about the general principles of adjusting window sashes

The doors of almost all modern windows PVC can be adjusted in three planes, due to which it is possible to achieve the correct position of the sashes in the frame and to achieve the optimal degree of pressure of the seals around the entire sash perimeter.

Sash fittings adjustment methods, appearance its individual elements and the tool used for adjustment may differ depending on the manufacturer, but in general, the general adjustment scheme looks like that shown in the figures below.

Now let's look at what needs to be done in order to troubleshoot each of the above cases.

The sash touches the frame from below when closing

In this case, you need to take the sash in the direction of the upper hinge and up. The procedure is approximately as follows:

 1. We open the sash.
 2. We turn the adjusting screw located near the upper hinge at the end of the sash clockwise by several turns with a hexagon.
 3. We close the sash.
 4. Remove the cap from the lower loop.
 5. We insert a hexagon into it and make several turns clockwise.
 6. We check the free movement of the sash, if necessary, we carry out the adjustment until we eliminate the malfunction.

The sash touches the frame from the side when closing

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the hinges, for this:

If the side of the sash only touches the frame from below, then it will be enough to move the sash towards the lower hinge. This can be easily done with the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge.

In the event that the side of the sash touches the frame along its entire height, it will also be necessary to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge.

Striker plate wear

To check the strikers, open a window and inspect them. Most often, there is one strip on each side around the perimeter of the window. If the wear of one of them is noticeable, this may indicate that there is an uneven landing of the window in the frame.

In order to solve the problem, you need to open the window, remove the plastic plugs from the adjusting bolts (they are located on the lower and upper hinges, on the same side as the sash) and loosen the bolts themselves using a hex key (4 mm).

Then adjust the position of the upper half of the window. The adjusting screw will help you with this. First, you need to adjust everything relative to the frame "left - right", and then go to the bottom screw and adjust the movement "up and down".

It is very easy to monitor the accuracy of the adjustment. To do this, you just need to open and close the window until you realize that the sash fits tightly and evenly into the frame.

The sash does not fit tightly enough to the frame

On the side of the handle, on the side end of the sash, there is a system of eccentrics, with the help of which the density of pressing to the sash frame is regulated.

They may have a different appearance depending on the manufacturer, but the principle of operation is the same in all cases.

By turning the eccentrics with pliers or a hexagon, you can adjust the required degree of pressing the sash to the frame.

If it is necessary to adjust the degree of pressing the window sash to the frame from the hinge side, this can be done using the adjusting screw located on the lower hinge.

If this sash is a swing-out sash, then the sash pressure can be additionally adjusted using the upper hinge.

To get to the adjusting bolt located on the scissors near the upper loop, you need to open the sash and then, by pressing the blocker first, set the handle to the ventilation mode.

If you need to press the sash to the frame, then you need to turn the bolt clockwise, respectively, you can loosen the clamp by turning the bolt counterclockwise.

Some types of fittings are regulated exclusively with the help of replies located on the side of the handle. The position of the strikers is adjusted with a hexagon.

Helpful advice!

To increase the pressure of the window sash to the frame, you need to move the bar towards the street.

On the hinge side of the frame, there are also hexagon-adjustable clamping mechanisms. The more you pull the tab, the more the sash will press against the frame.

The handle is locked when the sash is open in the "closed" mode, the window does not close

In order to prevent damage to the hardware mechanisms, the handle can be turned only when the sash is closed. To avoid accidental turning of the handle when the sash is open, special locks are provided, located under the handle at the end of the fold.

Depending on the manufacturer, they can also be different types... Before unlocking the handle, you must press the lock.

The sash is closed, but the window does not close because the handle does not turn

If, after closing the sash, the handle does not turn, this means that the clutch of the blocker with the counterpart on the frame does not work.

This problem can be solved in two ways:

 1. Using the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge, slightly move the sash towards the counterpart of the bollard
 2. Having slightly loosened the fastening, insert any thin plate of hard material between the counterpart of the bollard and the frame

It happens, it also happens that the plastic window does not close at all (for example, if the window was opened in two positions at once). How to be in this case? Read my article "Plastic window does not close - what to do?"

Broken handle

In order to replace the handle of a plastic window, you need to slightly pull the handle overlay towards you and turn it 90 degrees.

This usually happens due to insufficient lubrication. To prevent such a situation, it is necessary to lubricate the hardware mechanisms at least once a year. For these purposes, you can use aerosol lubricants or machine oil.

It is worth noting that the technical condition control and lubrication of all window fittings mechanisms must be carried out even in the absence of visible defects at least once a year.

If you are interested in adjusting plastic windows, it is useful to remember that:

 • it is necessary to periodically check the condition of the rubber seals in order to prevent their wear;
 • if you remove decorative plastic plugs, do it carefully, as they are very fragile; make sure not to deform or crush them during the main work;
 • if you have a deformed frame or yourself window hole, you will not be able to adjust the windows yourself;
 • if you are not sure that you can do everything yourself, it is better to entrust the work to a trusted specialist. So you can be sure that everything is done with high quality and nothing needs to be redone.

I propose to watch a video that clearly shows how to adjust a plastic window with your own hands.

How to tighten plastic windows so that there is no blow from the sash? This question is of interest to every owner of an opening glass unit. Indeed, in the cold season, even a small gap between the glass unit and the frame leads to a loss of the level of comfort of living in the house.

How is the glass unit sash mechanism

A plastic window consists of a polymer frame (sometimes with a sash), a multilayer bag assembled of 2-3 glasses separated by a void (air is the best heat insulator) and a mechanism for opening and closing the window.

The sash mechanics allows you to swing it open by turning it on the hinges, or fold it open by opening it at a precisely adjusted angle. To ensure these actions, the following units are included in the insulating glass unit mechanism:

 • The top loop is a complex element that provides both pivot and recline.
 • The bottom hinge is a simple element that only pivots.
 • Constipation is a complex knot that locks the sash and adjusts the functionality of the upper hinge.

It is constipation that "decides" how the window will work - whether it be tilted or opened. When moving its handle (lever) down, parallel to the side of the frame, the window closes tightly. Turning the lever 90 degrees unlocks the swinging function - the window can be opened by pulling the handle towards you. Turning the lever 180 degrees unlocks the tilt mechanism - the window opens slightly under its own weight or due to muscular effort.

When window sash adjustment is needed

First, adjustment is needed in case of errors during window installation. Insufficiently qualified craftsmen can make a mistake when checking the horizontal or vertical of the glass unit, after which the sash will begin to scratch the frame. In this case, you will need a 2-3 mm adjustable clearance in height and width.

Secondly, the adjustment will come in handy after several years of window operation, when the seals lose their elasticity or simply wear out. The sash will be pressed against the frame, but the worn seal will no longer seal the joint. Then the millimeter adjustable pressure gap will come in handy.

Thirdly, manual clearance adjustment will be required when changing seasons. In winter, everyone wants the perfect tightness of the joints (so as not to blow), and in the summer no one will refuse a slight draft.

Moreover, even in winter, before tightening the plastic windows, it is necessary to provide for the existence of a ventilation gap that ensures the flow of fresh air into the insulated room. Therefore, later in the text we will consider adjusting windows that blow either too hard or very weakly.

Preparing a window for winter: how to adjust a plastic window so that it doesn't blow

If the sash scratches the frame, then in winter it blows from the window due to the skewed structure. To eliminate this drawback, you will have to do the following: slam the window and lock it with the handle. After that, grasp the edge of the sash with both hands and pull it towards you, without offering much effort. If it has moved out of place at the bottom, then you have a weakened lower loop. If at the top, you have problems with the top loop.

After localizing the place of displacement, you need to do the elimination of the skew. The loop at the bottom is adjustable both vertically and horizontally. The upper mechanism can be adjusted in the same way. As a tool, they usually use a 4 hex key. Sometimes a cross screwdriver or a special star key, included in the window delivery kit, is used.

To adjust horizontally, the sash is opened and the key is inserted into the groove located at the bottom of the hinge. Turning it clockwise brings the glass unit closer to the hinge, turning it in the opposite direction moves it away.

The vertical adjustment of the lower hinge is performed in a different way: the window is opened slightly by tilting it into the room, the key is inserted into the groove located at the end of the curtain. Turning clockwise raises the sash, turning in the opposite direction lowers it. At the end of the adjustment, you can close the window and check whether the sash is moving away from the frame or not.

The hinge at the top of the window adjusts slightly differently. To do this, open the window 180 degrees and get to the adjusting screw located on the side of the side edge of the sash, in the area of the upper hinge. Next, insert a key into the screw head and turn it a quarter of a turn. After that, the window is closed and the degree of pressing the sash is checked again. The operation is repeated if necessary.

If the screw at the top hinge did not help, then it is necessary to adjust one more unit, which is located in the area of the hinge plate that holds the window in an inclined position. For this, the sash is opened and, holding the blocker, is folded back, gaining access to the plate in the upper part of the window. Next, a key is inserted into the screw head and rotated by a quarter of a turn clockwise or in the opposite direction.

To get close to the hinge plate, you need to do the following: turn the handle 90 degrees, open the window, press the lock with your finger and turn the handle up 180 °. After that, the open sash will tilt towards the room, exposing the plate with the adjusting screw.

If the sash closes easily and without squeaks and does not move when closed, and there is still a draft from the windows, we tighten the pressure of the glass unit to the frame. To do this, do the following:

 • Open the frame and turn the handle of the lock down. In this case, part of the metal pins protruding from the flap is displaced. These parts must be marked with a felt-tip pen.
 • Next, you need to take pliers (for smooth surfaces) or a flat screwdriver (for a slot) or a hex key (for an internal recess) and sequentially turn the pins so that most of them move to the seal.

Typically, to create additional downforce, the pins are rotated clockwise half a turn. Moreover, until the completion of manipulations with all the pins that move when the handle is closed, the sash should be kept open. You can evaluate the results of your efforts only after the completion of this work. Otherwise, the window will skew on the locking elements.

Adjustment does not help - change the seals

In especially difficult cases, in order to eliminate unwanted draft, in addition to adjusting the sash mechanism, it is necessary to resort to replacing the seals. To do this, you need to open the window and fix the sash. Next, we take up the seal and pull it towards ourselves. With sufficient effort, it will come out of the groove very easily.

The next stage is the installation of a new seal. It starts by trimming to size. Moreover, the old seal acts as a template, therefore, when dismantling it, it cannot be stretched. After trimming, the new material is pressed into the groove and checked for creases and other defects.

According to the recommendations of the manufacturers, such a replacement should be done no more than once every 10 years, however, the seal could be installed unevenly or damaged during operation. Typically, the main cause of damage to the seal is misalignment of the sash clamping force setting. Therefore, sometimes it is changed before the end of the 10-year term.

If the seal creaks, then instead of replacing, you should try silicone grease - it will remove unpleasant noise. In this case, it is strongly not recommended to use machine oil.

Preparing the window for the summer: how to arrange a light draft

Before that, we figured out how to tighten the hinges on plastic windows so that cold air does not blow from the sash. Now we have to solve another problem - to create a light draft that blows through the stuffy room. To do this, you need to do the following:

First, find the pins on the side surface of the flap - the movable parts of the pressure mechanism. Their details protrude above the surface more than other elements.

Secondly, inspect the trunnions and find eccentrics - special screws screwed into the trunnions with a center offset. They will give themselves away not only by a slightly uneven location, but also by the presence of a mark (risks) on the screw head.

Third, turn the off-center screw to the desired direction. The standard position of the eccentric is exactly in the center of the trunnion, which gives a medium clamping force. However, in the summer, we need the weakest clamp so that fresh air can enter the apartment. Therefore, we turn the eccentric so that its smaller side faces the elastic (seal). Typically this is done by turning the screw counterclockwise half or a quarter turn.

The described operation will have to be done with all the trunnions, putting the risks of the eccentrics in one direction, otherwise the sash will start to mow when locked, and its mechanism will wear out ahead of time.
