How to carry winter gear? Of course, on sleds, on children's plastic sleds, called "KORYTO" in the fishing community. On the shelves of stores, now not only children's goods, but also for fishermen, there are several standard sizes of such sledges. They can vary in size, shape and bottom profile.

If your company has been going fishing for years by car, then it makes sense to acquire completely identical "troughs". By folding them according to the principle of nesting dolls, you can very noticeably minimize their volume by putting them in the trunk or in the salon. Or even by placing "troughs" on the outer rack or arches.

I must say right away that I was not the first to come up with them for fishing. The theme of ordinary children's sledges was more developed. We tried to put them on skis. Glued boxes made of fiberglass with placing them on fluoroplastic "slides". But when I first saw children's sledges on the ice, I realized that they surpassed my technical searches in all respects.

Why are they so attractive?
Made of frost-resistant and shock-resistant plastic.
Can be stored in any conditions.
Being deformed during storage, after removing the load, they return to their shape again.
They do not require special care, they are lightweight, and the internal volume is sufficient for winter luggage.
The large support area allows you to transport a fairly heavy load, even on loose snow.
They can be used in conjunction with a backpack or fishing box.
And most importantly, they can be slightly modernized, bringing them even closer to our fishing needs.

He did not stupidly copy what he saw, but immediately ran to the store after them, and when he brought them home, he first of all listened to the malicious ridicule of his family. Like: "What kind of mermaids are you going to ride on a fishing trip?" or "You rarely bring so many fish!"

But the plan for their tuning was already ripening in my head, therefore, getting necessary tool, I got down to business. The first is the towing eyelet. For this, steel wire (preferably stainless steel) with a diameter of about 2.0-3.0 mm is best suited.

For the production of technological loops on the sides, after several trial options, I took pieces of stainless steel cable with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 mm. The holes for the eyelet and the hinges are perfectly melted with a nail heated on a gas burner, the diameter of which is equal to two diameters of the workpiece wire, that is, 4-6 mm.

I used a carabiner to attach the tow rope, so the diameter of the eye ring is arbitrary. To restrict movement and not to break holes in the plastic, I used two lock washers each. Fixation of the wire eyebolt occurs by bending the ends of the workpiece in different directions ("mustache" type).

When making side loops from wire, I proceeded from the size of the hook of the elastic shock absorber. A flattened small section of a thin-walled metal pipe serves as a stop for the loop.

During transportation, the trough is empty, but on the ice there is a folding chair and a backpack. In order not to lose all this on the road, I use elastic shock absorbers.

A real, experienced angler always has additional equipment. For winter fishing, it is advisable to have a tent, ice screw, fishing rod, box and so on. In this case, a lot depends on the fishing conditions of a particular region. If the reservoir is somewhere nearby, then there are no special problems. In such conditions, you can hide from the bad weather at any time and return to take what was accidentally left at home.

If you need to get to the reservoir for a long time, then you need to have a device that could facilitate the process of movement.

The fact is that it is very difficult to move around in winter, and even in all equipment. Not only does clothing hinder movement, you also need to carry equipment. But if you have a sled for fishing in winter, then this problem can be solved. In addition, if you approach the solution of this problem correctly, the sleds can have more advanced functionality. For example, a sled can serve as a stool or tent.

There are a lot of different things. different designs sled specifically for fishing. Sleds on metal runners are very popular. Sleds can be either foldable or solid. Unfortunately, such sledges move well on ice, but on snow, and even with a load, this is a problem. Alternatively, instead of runners, you can adapt children's skis, then there will be no problems with moving on the snow.

In this regard, many anglers began to switch to plastic structures with wide runners that do not fall through the snow. Moreover, such structures have low sides, which can be attributed to a disadvantage, since it is necessary to fix the load additionally. Despite this, this factor suits many winter fishing enthusiasts.

How to make a do-it-yourself fishing sled

Anyone can assemble such a structure. The main thing is to decide which sleds are needed and with what functionality. If you need a sled in order to deliver fishing equipment to a fishing place, then they can be made on the basis of wood, plastic, aluminum or iron. It all depends on the capabilities of the fisherman and the purpose of the sled.

Metal sleds can be made both collapsible and non-collapsible. More recently, other designs simply did not exist. The metal construction is a tough and durable base, on top of which there is a platform of wooden boards or plywood. This is the so-called cargo area, which serves to transport cargo. Their only drawback is the difficulty of operating in snowy areas. Due to the fact that the runners are narrow, they fall through the snow and a person needs to expend a lot of effort to move them, and even loaded ones.

Similar plastic sleds are made in the form of a trough. They have good performance characteristics. They move without problems both on ice and on snow. In this case, you should pay attention to the size of the structure and workmanship. Although many argue that such a design is not difficult to do on your own.

Wooden sleds are very popular. This is the most affordable and easily processed material, and constructions made of it will last for many years. The main thing is to have the following tools and materials on hand:

  • pine boards;
  • glue for wood;
  • sandpaper;
  • jigsaw;
  • electric drill, etc.

Manufacturing technology

  1. You need to take two boards, from which two runners will be made. Draw the appropriate shape on them and cut with a jigsaw.
  2. The runners need to be fastened together. For this, transverse bars of the appropriate size are used. The joint may consist of glue and round studs.
  3. To strengthen the structure, additional transverse strips are attached to the front and rear of the runners, set on glue and on spikes.
  4. For a more aesthetic appearance, all excess is cut off and well cleaned.
  5. The board, which will later serve as a cargo area, is prepared for subsequent fastening by cutting out all the necessary grooves and drilling the corresponding holes.
  6. On the back of the 2 runners, an additional block is fixed for fastening.
  7. The points of curvature of the runners are reinforced with strips of aluminum or iron. This is necessary so that various obstacles do not spoil the sled runners.
  8. Before final assembly, it is best to check all parts for dimensional accuracy. At the same time, you need to make sure that all elements are sanded and covered with waterproof varnish.

After the sled is assembled, it should be tested for strength by laying on it all the devices that are used for winter fishing. Only after that, it makes sense to take them with you.

Factory made fishing sled

For those who do not want to waste their time making sleds, there is an opportunity to purchase ready-made ones at a retail outlet.

  • It is a light yet durable sled weighing 10.4kg.
  • Roomy and have dimensions: 165x81x43 cm.
  • Relatively high sides.
  • They are well transported on ice surfaces.

It is a very light sled, weighing 3.6 kg, which is easy to transport by hand. They are made of polyethylene, which is not afraid of sub-zero temperatures. Thanks to the wide runners and the low center of gravity, they are stable under all operating conditions.

Some anglers use children's sleds for their fishing needs. If you have them, there is no need to specially make or buy a sled. Unfortunately, in the presence of a tangible snow cover, problems arise with their operation. In addition, these sleds are not intended for fishing and you will have to come up with additional elements.

This is the most simple construction, which is very easy to transport as they take up very little space. Unfortunately, such a sled does not fit many accessories necessary for winter fishing. In addition, inflatable parts are not particularly reliable.

These sleds have a number of advantages. Firstly, they are quite roomy, and secondly, they will easily pass on any surface, due to the wide contact plane. The main material is plastic, which is not afraid of frost. They can be easily moved over ice or snow using a regular rope. These sleds have high sides, which reliably hold the load inside the structure.

At the expense of application of the lung material, the sled itself is not heavy, which means it is convenient to use. There are designs that attach to the snowmobile. This is especially true when there is a long hike ahead. Naturally, such conditions require more spacious sleds, up to 2 meters long.

How to make a do-it-yourself sled

Sled sledges are not at all difficult to make with your own hands. For this, you can use any available material, from wood to metal. The simplest construction is wooden. This is done wooden frame, consisting of two runners and two bars connecting these runners. On top of the beams, a sheet of plywood is attached or stuffed ordinary boards... Then a metal handle or hitch must be attached to the structure so that the sled can be moved with a snowmobile. If you use metal instead of wood, then the structure will turn out to be much stronger, given that you have to move quite far.

In this case, special attention should be paid to the strength of the coupling mechanism. For its manufacture, you can use two pipe sections, one of the ends of which should be attached directly to the sled frame.

Option for attaching to sledges

  • Holes are made around the entire perimeter of the sled.
  • In each of the holes, you should put metal cables with a special fastener. Moreover, it is necessary to use rubber bands in the fasteners, which always give a guarantee of reliable fastening of all the contents of the sled.
  • For ease of use, you need a rope that is attached to special bolts attached to the sled frame. The rope can be folded in four, and its length can be up to about 20 meters.

Finnish fishermen widely use such sledges, while domestic fishermen do not really recognize them. The design consists of a chair that sits on runners. Its advantage is that you can sit on it both while driving and while fishing. They are very convenient for moving fishing equipment.

First you need to provide yourself with tools and materials:

  • Prepare sheet steel.
  • Wooden blocks made of pine or other wood.
  • Metal rod with threads on both sides.
  • Metal overlays.
  • Tires.
  • Bolts.
  • Screws.

The assembly of the sled contains the following steps:

  1. The steel leaves are curved on both sides.
  2. In front of the formed runners, two holes are made for a metal rod.
  3. At the back, where the angler will put his feet, rubber pads are mounted. They will prevent slipping under the influence of snow.
  4. The dimensions of the structure must be proportional. The upper bar, in size, should be shorter than the distance between the runners.
  5. At a distance of 1 meter from the curved edge, weld on both sides along the bar. To do this, you need to use beveled beams with self-tapping screws.
  6. The horizontal posts should be welded to the bar in the center of the metal sheets.
  7. The seat and back are better made of wood. If you use your imagination and ingenuity, then you can make a real masterpiece for winter fishing.

If you have a snowmobile, you need a sled. Many fishermen were convinced that a sled is a useful thing. The main thing is to determine which design is more suitable for specific fishing conditions. It can be a sled sled or a classic sled with two runners.

As mentioned above, such a sled can be made at home. By the way, if you try, you can make a snowmobile. There are many interesting and unpretentious designs on the Internet that are easy to repeat at home.

Purchased sleds, as a rule, require some modifications, although not significant:

  • To prevent ice from collecting on the inner surface of the sled, they should be treated with a silicone-based lubricant or with a special ski wax.
  • For movement in the dark, reflective elements should be attached to the sides of the sleigh.

Two truths are unconditionally accepted by all members of the forum and are not subject to discussion. First: let the sled barely fit into the trunk, taking up all of its space. And the second: the sled should not overturn on snowy ice. How are these two requirements related? Answer: the wider and longer the drag, the more resistant it is to overturning. You can, of course, purchase the largest sliding trough and attach it to the roof of the "fish car". Then the problem of the trunk loses its relevance. Everything else, right down to the loops and knots, the composition of the fastening rubber and the size of the hooks on it, as well as the length of the "leash" on which the sled is pulled, is actively discussed.

Do it yourself

On all pages of the branch, the decision to make a sled with your own hands is mentioned only once. Probably, this is a real example of amateurism - making gadgets for your hobby, not using anything ready-made, buying only materials in the store. The master from Zhodino bent 8 mm. plywood by steaming it in a home bath. I treated the hull with ship varnish. I put the sled on aluminum runners. All 150 kg. the fisherman's luggage went into the sleigh. And the "trough" itself fit in the trunk. Assures that the canopy is sliding over the hummocks like clockwork. And it also serves as a table in a tent for a modest fishing meal. We repeat, modest. A true lover will never allow himself such a state when instead of a snack, a nozzle is sent into his mouth.

If the local river is small, then the main testing ground for the delivery of equipment for ice fishing is on large rivers or reservoirs. For example, in the Borisov area, on the Berezina. New sledges are often tried out there by nearby fans. Craftsmen do not leave the purchased ice boats the same. An amateur from Minsk attached strong loops around the entire perimeter of the finished sleigh at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other, and through them wraps the body with rubber strips, fixing the tension with hooks. And the established groups of ice fishing are advised to acquire "troughs" of the same size in order to put them one into another, then in the trunks there is much more space for equipment.

What sleds to choose and buy

Battles take place over the choice of types of sleigh. Some argue that firms that report some special qualities of their products, such as "the box does not retain moisture inside," are simply advertising that has no practical value, except for inflating prices. We are completely satisfied with the simple Belarusian sled "for 400 thousand squirrels." Others cite the long lifespan of imported sleds, proving their durability. Buy "land" sleds for snowmobiles and ATVs, with their super-carrying capacity and maneuverability. Some with a "steam locomotive" pull a couple of sledges with belongings along the ice for all cases of fishing unpredictability.

Sledge-drag: is it that simple?

You will not understand right away - as a joke or seriously optimists - amateurs talk about a parachute on a sled as a pulling force. Maybe this is quite real? Especially on large crossings and with a favorable wind. And pessimists remind that such snowmobiles need a device for controlling the lines and a braking system. The last point was put by an optimist who advised to start a Labrador so that he could jump and pull the cart to its destination. More helpful tips.

There are a wide variety of designs and modifications of winter sleds for fishing. The most popular today are structures on metal runners.

They can be either solid or foldable. For a very long time, fishermen gave their preference to this particular type of transportation in winter time.

But if you put both tackle and equipment on the sled at the same time in snow-covered areas, movement will be difficult. Whereas on ice and rolled crust - they show themselves well.

That is why plastic structures, which are distinguished by their convenience and practicality, have become an alternative. They have wide skis, which prevents the structure from falling through during movement. Although there is a small minus. Such a device is characterized by low sides, which makes it necessary to additionally secure gear and equipment. But even with this inconvenience, their popularity does not diminish.

Anyone can create a winter sled with his own hands. You just need to pre-select the desired homemade option.

If you are interested in a quality transport mechanism for the delivery of fishing tackle in the winter, you can make wooden, plastic, aluminum or metal sleds. It all depends on the materials you have.

This kind of metal sled can be either non-separable or folding. Just a couple of decades ago, only such units existed. This mechanism is distinguished by its high carrying capacity, its structure is very rigid and powerful.

In this case, fishing tackle can be laid out on the cargo area from wooden boards, plastic sheets or chipboard.

The negative side of using this kind of winter sleds for fishing is considered to be their poor movement in snow-covered areas. The skis are designed to be quite narrow, and with a large thickness of snow this brings inconvenience. Whereas the surface of a reservoir with a low layer of snow or just ice is ideal for moving this unit.

Plastic sled

The plastic sled, made in the shape of a trough, has shown itself well on fishing. They have frost-resistant characteristics, transport fishing tackle through the snow without any hindrances and do not cost so much. It all depends, of course, on their size and the quality of the base material used.

Although most fishermen are advised to make their own plastic structures for winter fishing. They assure that it is not difficult.

Wooden sled

Wooden sleds will good choice for your hike. They will be able to deliver all the tackle to the desired place without any difficulty and will serve you faithfully throughout many fishing trips.

Necessary materials and tools:

  • boards, best of all pine;
  • glue for wood;
  • sandpaper;
  • jigsaw;
  • drill and more.

Step-by-step instructions for their manufacture:

  1. Take two boards, which will later act as runners. Using a compass, draw semicircles on them, and cut them out with a jigsaw.
  2. Holes are drilled to secure the crossbars to the runners. It is recommended to connect them using round tenons by gluing.
  3. To strengthen the resulting structure in front and behind the runners, transverse strips on spikes are laid.
  4. To make the structure aesthetically attractive, it is necessary to trim the excess after everything is dry.
  5. On the board, which will act as a seat in the future, and at the place of installation of the tackle box, grooves are cut out for their further connection with the runners.
  6. Bars are also glued to the back of the skis for reinforcement.
  7. A strip of aluminum or steel is screwed down with screws to the bottom of the curvature of the runners.
  8. Before there how to start final assembly It is best to view its individual parts for the accuracy of the connection. Plus, all parts are sanded and coated with a waterproof varnish.

After all the work is done, be sure to put all your fishing tackle in the sled and check the strength of the homemade product. After all, I didn't want the sled to break while fishing.

Large Sport 1630

  • they are durable, but at the same time not heavy (10.4 kg);
  • very overall (165 × 81 × 43) cm and roomy;
  • frost-resistant;
  • have high sides;
  • good for transporting on slippery winter surfaces.

Most fishermen are convinced that a sled for a snowmobile is a useful thing. But first, everyone should decide which type of transport they like. After all, it can be both scraps and conventional designs with runners.

Most interesting options You can make a sled for a snowmobile yourself, and indeed, like the snowmobile itself, you can do it yourself. After all, this is a fairly simple design.

Tips to improve your purchased ice fishing sled:

  • so that the inner surface of the sled does not have icing, it is necessary to lubricate the bottom with silicone grease or special wax for skis;
  • if the trajectory will take place in the dark, it is recommended to attach reflective strips along the edges of the sleigh;
  • in addition to the sled, put also a folding chair. It can be secured with a rubber band.

A sled for winter fishing is an irreplaceable thing. Having loaded all the equipment on them, you can comfortably get to the place of fishing, while saving your strength. If you have to carry a lot of belongings with you, it is enough to try such a sled once in business - and you will no longer want to carry all the necessary fishing accessories without them. If you get to the fishing spot with a snowmobile, the drags that you can attach to the vehicle are also useful.

On sale you can find ready-made models of a variety of designs, metal or plastic, but many make their own sleds for winter fishing. If you come to this thoroughly, a self-made structure will last for many years or even decades.

A good winter fishing sled can be made of wood. To make them you will need:

  • self-tapping screws;

    jigsaw or jigsaw;

    screwdriver;

First, take two boards to make runners out of them. On them, using a compass, you need to make a markup, and then cut out a semicircle with a jigsaw. Then you need to drill holes for the transverse boards, on which the load will be located, and fix these boards with self-tapping screws.

To make the structure stronger, you also need to mount two vertical crossbars in front and behind using self-tapping screws. The lower part of the runners must be upholstered with strips of thin metal so that they do not wear out, then the do-it-yourself sled for winter fishing will be durable. The next step is to attach the rope lugs, which can be made from wire, to the front of the runners. Another option is to drill holes in the runners into which the rope will be threaded. It remains only to cover the structure with varnish or waterproof paint in several layers - and the sled is ready.

FROM anki for winter fishing with your own hands made of aluminum

Lightweight and durable sleds can be made of aluminum. This will require an aluminum sheet and an aluminum profile. Such a sled consists of three parts - runners, bottom and walls.

The first step is to cut out the bottom from the aluminum sheet, as well as the walls of the future sled. To make the sidewalls and backdrop, you need to prepare a strip of material and then fold it twice. The best way to do this is to use a bending machine. If not, a metal corner and a mallet will do. It is better to bend the upper edges of the walls immediately so that it is impossible to cut yourself on them.

The next step is making runners. It is necessary to cut out two blanks of suitable length from the aluminum profile, make cuts on them and bend them. After that, it remains only to securely connect all the parts. To do this, you can use any fastener, the simplest option is bolts and nuts.

Sleigh with box

Another option is to take a regular sled and place a box on it in which you can place all the fishing equipment. The first step is to cut the bottom out of plywood and fix it on the sled with self-tapping screws. Then, using the same screws and corners, you need to mount the plywood side walls.

It is better to make the cover from a durable material, then it will be possible to sit on it without fear of breakage. You can also fix foam rubber and leatherette or other suitable materials on it. They can be easily secured with a furniture stapler. To prevent the seat from being cold, the same foam will do.

The lids and wall of the box placed on the sled can be pasted over from the inside with thin foam plastic. In this case, you will get an insulated structure in which neither bait, nor lunch, nor catch will freeze.

Sleigh with frame on metal skis

This version of the ice fishing sled consists of a metal frame to which skis are attached on racks. To make them, the first step is to rivet the frame. Skis can be cut from duralumin strips or other suitable material... Their optimal width is not less than 80 mm, in length they should exceed the frame by 150 mm or more, in which case the sled will be passable and very stable.

To assemble the sled, you need to turn the frame upside down and put the skis next to it. Then from the front and rear ends of the frame it is necessary to retreat 50 mm and mark on them the places for attaching the struts. The next step is to cut out the racks and mountings from the sheet metal, and then drill holes in the racks to hold the luggage. After that, it remains only to rivet the entire structure - and the sled is ready. You need to put a sheet of the same duralumin or plywood on the frame.

Refinement of sledges with own hands

Among those who do not want to make their own sleds for winter fishing, plastic drags are widespread. They are affordable, lightweight, frost-tolerant and long-lasting. But such sledges have a big drawback - they do not have any fasteners for fixing the luggage. To make them convenient to use, this defect must be eliminated on your own.

One of the best options - fix steel cable loops on the drags, into which the rope can be threaded. To do this, you need to drill 4 holes on each side and thread a cable through them, fixed with standard fasteners.

The best way fix the pulling rope on the drags - fix two eye bolts in the front part. The towing cable itself can be attached to it with carabiners, quickly placing or removing it as needed.
