Wall clocks have long been not only a chronometer, but also a stylish piece of furniture. You can easily make a watch with your own hands that will match the spirit of your home and your character. Personally, I prefer the eco style and want to make a wooden clock from an almost untreated tree trunk.
The easiest option is to make a clock from a saw cut.

First, you need to saw off the saw cut from the trunk. You can leave the bark, it looks decorative in some cases, and polish it carefully.
To make a watch, you need to buy the most simple clock in a plastic case. All you need from them is the clockwork. The watch will need to be carefully disassembled by first removing the batteries from them. We remove the protective glass from the watch, then the plug. which secures the arrows, nut and washer. We take out the mechanism from the watch. We remember the sequence and lay out all the parts in a safe place.
Now we apply the numbers on the saw cut dial with a burner. In this case, everything is extremely conditional (only the number "12").

And we drill a hole in the center for the arrows. You can make a cut from the back under the clockwork with a chisel or milling cutter. Now we mount the clockwork with hands on the new watch:

You can cut parts of different lengths from a pine block and glue them together, holding them with clamps. The result is a very creative watch face:

In the following version, the dial is made of OSB sheet, and the frame is made of wooden bars:

If you are proficient in jigsaw sawing, you can make more complex options dials in the form of animal figures:

Such a clock will be especially appropriate in a children's room.
Very simple and original version- a dial made of wood with buttons glued on it instead of numbers:

In general, give free rein to your imagination and go for it!

Contrary to the prevailing stereotypes, wooden wall clocks are most often not only a boring chronometer, but also an unusually fashionable and stylish piece of furniture. However, in order to become the owner of such a popular thing today, it is not necessary to frantically run around all kinds of shops in search of it, and if successful, buy for big money. You can easily make beautiful dIY wall clock made of woodthat will match the modern spirit of your home atmosphere. It was not for nothing that I said “easy” and not “without difficulty”, because you still have to work a little, but the result is worth it.

Today, the cottage style is extremely popular, where everything should be kept compact, in minimalism, while using natural materials to the maximum. That is why we will make watches from an unprocessed tree trunk - watches in the so-called eco style.

So, take a carefully polished saw cut from the trunk right with the bark, it will be even more interesting. The clock mechanism can be used from an old clock, or you can purchase a cheap wall clock and disassemble it.

We will mark the dial with the method of burning on wood. This watch model has only the central "12". Optionally, you can burn out the entire dial or split it into quarters.

In the center of the barrel, drill a hole for the arrows. If you can do it and have a desire, you can make a sample for the clockwork with a chisel or a router at the back of the saw cut. Mount the clockwork with the hands. You can pre-coat the saw cut with varnish.

The clock from the saw cut is ready - feel free to hang it on the wall!

And here is a very simple, but very original version - a dial, where buttons instead of numbers.

    • DIY wall clock? So what if you can buy them in a watch store. Yes, you can, but only they will be ready-made and it will not be easy to add something to them or change. As for the watch with your own hands, imagine that you can put anything on it. Because there are no restrictions.
        • 1. Blank. In my case, this is a tulle from a crown tree. Where to get it from? Very simple! You can find a phone number on the ad “tree crowning”, call it and ask either the tulka itself or to be cut into blanks - circles, as shown in the figure. In my case, the diameter of the circle turned out to be 31 cm, and the thickness was 2.5 cm. How to determine which diameter you need? Buy a clockwork and be guided by it. The thickness of the workpiece plays a very important role, since it determines whether it is necessary to make a pocket for the mechanism or not. In my case, I did it and it took a lot of time. In order not to repeat my mistake, cut the workpiece to a thickness of no more than 1 cm. Also, most likely the wood will be still damp, which means that it may deform when dry, so place the workpiece for 1 week or 2 in a warm, dry room. I even got a chip (see photo).
        • TOTAL for material costs came out: 1,640 rubles (date 01.03.2015). These are my expenses, I think that many of them can be much lower because household people have half of the above at home, or on the other hand, someone's costs may be higher. Step 1. Our workpiece must be sanded and sanded so that the surface is smooth and pleasant to the touch. To do this, we use a coarse-grained skin, then, when the surface is smoothed, we grind it with a fine-grained skin.

Skins

Step 2. Measure the middle and drill a hole through which the base of the clockwork will pass.

Step 3. On the back side we make a recess (pocket) for the clockwork, if necessary. How to do it? I made many holes with an ordinary drill, and then knocked them out with a chisel and a hammer, then grinded the surface as best I could.

Step 4. From matches we construct arrows - numbers, then paint over them with a marker. You can burn it out with a burning device, or apply artistic cutting. In general, there are no restrictions!

I got these numbers) And what are yours?

Step 6. We check how the clockwork fits and works, after which we start varnishing. We varnish in 2 or 3 layers, depending on the varnish (read the instructions on the varnish tin).

Step 7. Mount the clockwork, using self-tapping screws or glue it on.

Congratulations now you can be proud and contemplate your wall clock on the wall of your house, apartment, office or summer cottage.

Comfort and coziness in our home sometimes depends on even the most small parts and elements. Even most interior designers agree that the most important attributes for obtaining comfort in a home are well-chosen curtains, original lamps, soft and matched in the right shade, throws, pillows, bath rugs and clocks.

In this article, we will just talk about a master class on how to decorate a clock at home yourself.

There are a large number of photo watches on the Internet, most of them are made by famous designers, but making an original watch at home is also not difficult.

There is, of course, one key and difficult moment - the installation of the mechanism on the watch for its operation, but the finished mechanism should be bought in the store and installed according to the instructions. But appearance future watches and the rest of the design depends entirely on personal preferences and tastes.

Several modern techniques are distinguished that help to independently make watches in any style.

Decoupage watch style

A similar technique for decorating and creating wall clocks involves working with a ready-made store template, where there is already a blank, the basis of the hands and the finished mechanism. You can also purchase ready-made patterns on paper, special paints, glue and other decoupage elements.

A blank for a watch is made in this way: several times the base is covered with a primer of acrylic paints, and at the end it is sanded. The desired shade and texture is given to the base in the next step.

There is one trick - if you want to make a watch in the old style with a shade that is worn, then the paint must be applied with a sponge.

Decorating a wall clock with your own hands is a process of revealing fantasy and creativity from a person. Special water stickers can be glued to the base. Or you can draw a preliminary sketch yourself and transfer it to the dial.

After that, the finished mechanism and hands with numbers are already attached. After a series of actions, the clock, made by hand, will come to life and give the house a special original look.

Quilling style watches

Quilling is an arts and crafts process that involves working with straight strips of multi-colored paper of varying widths. Such strips, as a rule, are twisted and glued to the surface, while creating the most varied patterns and pictures.

To create a watch using this technique, it is best to take a tree as a basis for a watch, since quilling elements can be well glued to it.

The color scheme should be in harmony with the interior of the room. After all, a bright clock will look ugly in a room made in the style of minimalism. Therefore, the choice of shade is a key moment in this matter.

Most often, multi-colored quilling elements are used to create flowers, insects, trees, animals, berries, and so on.

Plaster clock

Regular plaster tiles will serve well as a base for future watches.

Romantic and quivering natures will surely find a large number of solutions for creating watches from this material.

Among professionals, such a tile is called a medallion. The mechanism of the future watch is attached to its back. To make the product look more refined and restrained, its surface should be covered with matte paint in light colors.

And if you want some glare, then glossy paint will do.

Note!

Such material is most suitable for creating a clock in a bedroom. At the same time, shades are chosen - beige, pale pink, pearl, the color of coffee with milk, purple and so on.

Clock with wooden sticks

In this situation, in your arsenal should be such items as sticks and quality wood, good glue, scissors, and ready-made working hours with a flat surface.

Many small sticks of the same size should be cut out of wood, and then connected

If the sticks are applied to the base in two layers, then you can achieve an excellent "explosion" effect, which looks luxurious and original.

Now you know how to make a watch at home. Handcrafted watches are ideal for kitchens, halls and bedrooms.

Note!

So interesting and modern design you definitely won't find a watch in a store. Simple construction of quite available materials... If your guests see this watch in your room, they will definitely pay attention to it, and they certainly will not tell you that they saw the same in a nearby store.
The materials I took for the watch:

  • Wooden board 35 x 35 cm, 18 mm thick (hardware store).
  • A piece of plywood 3 mm thick (hardware store).
  • 13 mm nails or screws.
  • Clockwork (can be taken from a boring watch).
  • Yellow paint.
  • Black marker.
The woodworking tools I used:
  • Hand saw.
  • Screwdriver drill.
  • A hammer.
  • Pliers.
  • Ruler.
  • Right angle ruler.
  • Bit.
  • Sandpaper.

We saw the board.

We take our board and decide on the size of future watches. We draw and saw off the base with a hacksaw or hand saw... 18 mm board will cut well and it is advisable to use a saw with fine teeth so that the edges are even and a minimum mechanical restoration after sawing off.

Making squares

Further, at one of the corners of the base, I drew rectangles 10 x 5 cm. They drank them with a step. Then I cut these rectangles into 5 x 5 cm squares.
Now you need to sand all the squares, removing the burrs and making the surface smooth.

We proceed to milling the hole for the clock mechanism.
We take the watch mechanism and attach it to the center of our base. We outline with a pencil. Next, we mill the recess. I used a wood router bit fixed in a screwdriver. You can use a chisel and make a recess with it.
During work, we try on a depression for the mechanism. If everything is fine in the tramline, we drill a hole for the shaft exit, on which the arrows will be put on. After all the work done, we will sand the base with sandpaper so that it becomes smooth.

Watch assembly

Before proceeding directly to the assembly of the watch, you must first prepare 18 small jumpers - connectors. Take a piece of plywood and use a hacksaw to cut 18 0.7 x 4 cm jumpers.
We arrange the base, we lay out our squares in an almost chaotic order. It is necessary to arrange the squares so that the plywood jumpers are practically invisible. On the reverse side, respectively, we connect everything with jumpers and nails.

Watch painting

For painting, I used spray paint from a spray can. We hold the balloon at a distance of 20 cm and spray onto the watch, on one side. A little later, and the paint dries very quickly, turn the clock over and spray the paint on the other side. Everything, the foundation is almost ready.

Draw numbers

I took a black permanent marker and just drew the numbers. There is another option - to print the numbers on a computer, cut and paste. So you can do that if you like.

Watch hanger

I screwed in 2 self-tapping screws so that there was something to hang the clock on. And I tied a rope to the self-tapping screws so that you could hang it on a nail in the wall or a self-tapping screw.
