  4. Plugs(11)- metal plates 50x50 millimeters (any thickness). But, you can do without them, because the covers perform a purely aesthetic function. If you use them, then you need 6 pieces.
  5. Fastening(see fig.). These are parts welded from triangular and rectangular plates. You can't make them without welding. But, this is the only place where it cannot be replaced if you follow the recommendations. You can do without this if you use 3 plates of wood or metal measuring 90x40 mm (or other). The main thing is that they protrude a couple of centimeters on both sides of the pipe to which the board is attached. The plates are fastened to the pipe with screws: holes are drilled in them and a board is screwed on top.
  6. Grovers(spring washers), nuts, screws - 12 pieces each. They are needed to fasten the bench.

How to make a barbell

Materials:

  1. Pipe with a diameter of 32 mm and a wall thickness of at least 6 mm. You need it 1.6-1.8 meters. The steel bar weighs 20 kg and is 2.2 meters long. Such characteristics (weight and strength) are not given by improvised materials. Even taking out a pipe with a metal thickness of 8 mm, one cannot reach the specified parameters of the standard neck. Considering that pipes with a wall of 6 mm are the most common, it is possible to achieve a weight of 7 kg, taking a length of 1.8 m. like a factory neck. A home-made bar will be stronger if you take a large thickness of metal, but even this will not significantly add weight. Here, this must be taken into account, and focus on the cost. An expensive option - steel round timber, of course, is more reliable and efficient. Further, threads are cut at the ends of the selected pipe - 20 centimeters on each side.)
  2. Pancake dividers are needed so that they do not cross the “line” assigned to them. A simple and reliable option that does not allow pancakes to do this is to weld pieces of steel in the right places. If there is no welding, use electrical tape or wire, which is wound in the right places, having previously made holes in them. If appearance is not so important for you, drill two through holes in those places, insert them with screws and nuts. Separator distance 20 cm.

  4. To fix pancakes, you need 2 nuts: for a diameter of 32 - a nut, respectively, by 32. The next option is to drill through holes at a short distance, insert the screws into those of them that are closer to the pancakes. Another aesthetic way is special spring clips (2 pcs.). They are practical and inexpensive.

Find a suitable shape, such as a large paint can. Pour cement into it, place the neck of your future barbell and wait for complete curing. Complete solidification will occur in at least a day, but it is better to wait four. Only then can you start making the second "pancake". When it dries, securely support the entire structure.

If there was no cement at hand, use all your imagination. Check out the warehouse and the garage. Use the old car tires, car engine parts, canisters stuffed with scrap iron. Anything, just remember that this is not the most convenient option. It is best to turn to the cement one - it is such a home-made bar that will allow you to fully engage in sports!

If metal parts are used for the rod that require welding, then it is already necessary to look for fittings of a suitable diameter.

Pancakes rods

There may be several options for materials for homemade rod discs. Some use plastic bottles with a capacity of one and a half, two and even five liters as cargo. They are filled with sand or water, and in the first version they will be heavier. The weight of each such bottle can reach four kg or more.

You can also use the usual rims but it's not the best affordable option. Not everyone in the garage has two unnecessary discs, and you also need to find fittings suitable for the neck of the rod, and welding is necessary for the connection.

Another option for pancake material is cement. In order to make such discs, you need suitable shape and cement mix. You can use different containers for the form, ranging from paint cans (for a small load) to plastic buckets for putty and building mixtures (for more serious loads). Briefly, the method of preparing pancakes for the rod: after preparing the cement mortar, it is poured into the mold and the neck is inserted. The manufacture of the second pancake can be started only after the complete solidification of the cement mortar, which occurs no earlier than after 24 hours.

Sometimes car tires are used as rod discs. On average, tires weigh about ten kilograms, but if this is not enough, then you can make each tire heavier by putting iron parts inside and thus bring the weight of pancakes to 30 kg.

Even car owners can use old flywheels as rod disks, and if there are no such parts, then flywheels that have served their purpose can be bought at any service station for a penny.

How to make a barbell with your own hands

  • For a bar with a load of bottles, this manufacturing option is used: they are fastened with adhesive tape or wire, 4 pieces on each side of the neck, and it must be securely fixed so that home-made “pancakes” do not fly off the bar - no need to feel sorry for the wire and tape. This is perhaps the most affordable barbell option.
  • If tires are used, then a rocker is attached to the neck, and tires are already hung on it. This method is also good because it allows you to get rid of tires that have served their purpose.
  • In the manufacture of rods from used flywheels, fittings of a suitable diameter with threads cut on both sides are used as a neck. To prevent slipping of hands on the fittings, you can stretch the rubber hose. Since it is rather difficult to wind it dry on the neck, you can lubricate the armature with oil and the process will go faster. Nuts are screwed onto both ends of the rod so that there is room for flywheel pancakes. To fix them, nuts are also used or a special stopper is made. The convenience of such a bar is not only compactness (if desired, it can be easily disassembled and assembled), but also the possibility of gaining different weights.


Types of dumbbells

For many who want to play sports, the issue of going to the gym is closed due to lack of time, and their own sports equipment for practicing at home is not so cheap. Despite the ease of manufacture, the sporting goods industry is simply not interested in selling cheap pieces of metal.

Before you make them yourself at home, let's figure out what they are and what their varieties are. All dumbbells are divided into cast And collapsible. The first have a constant mass, it can only be changed by destroying the dumbbell. Most often they are used in gyms, since there should always be access to equipment of the required weight and no one wants to spend time assembling and disassembling it.

  • The middle part of the bottles needs to be cut out, and then re-fasten the top and bottom parts with duct tape.
  • Then you need to fill the resulting containers with filler. Sand and cement are perfect as fillers, but if you need more weight, then feel free to add nails, scrap metal, bearing balls, in general, let your imagination run wild.
  • After filling, a wooden or metal shelf or pipe must be inserted into both necks. Cover the area with duct tape or duct tape. It will turn out a very comfortable, soft and non-slip handle.

We collect the bar

You can also assemble a barbell from plastic. Since it in itself implies a lot of weight, much more bottles are needed. For the bar you will need: plastic bottles, at least 8 pieces; filler; neck; tape/duct tape.

  • As a neck, we use a pipe, fittings, convenient for the hand.
  • We fill the bottles in the same way as in dumbbells.
  • We wrap the finished load around both ends of the neck and wrap it with tape. We get four bottles on each side, between which the neck passes. Tape the weight securely to the bar so that it does not move out and create play.
  • For a more impressive weight, we take another load and lay it in the gaps between the existing bottles, like logs. We recommend wrapping each new layer with new tape - this way you can bring the mass of the rod up to 100 kg.

So, we will need: metal pipes of suitable length; drill, screws or bolts; cement mortar, PVA glue; cargo form.

Manufacturing

  • To begin with, take a pipe and drill holes for screws in four directions with a drill at its ends. Screw in the screws so that they hold on to the tips as tightly as possible and stick out in the shape of a cross. This is necessary to hold the cement.
  • Next, take a mold (a flat bucket of paint, mayonnaise or whatever. It is only important that the size suits your weight), and mix the solution with glue or oil paint for hardness.
  • Insert the pipe into the solution and wait four days until completely dry.
  • Then you need to do the same on the other side. Make a support, tie up or hang the structure for another four days.
  • After complete drying, you need to soak the dumbbell in water a couple of times for the next week to make the cement stronger.

Reference: if you prepare concrete in a 2 liter form, then the weight of the projectile can reach 5 k g (depending on the composition of the mixture).

Of course, for such an exercise as a "farmer's walk", two canisters hung on a stick are also suitable, you can also make the metal bar heavier with car wheels, sand tires and much more. But only such cement dumbbells will allow you to fully engage in sports.

Metal dumbbells

Metal pancakes and vultures are analogues of factory ones, but they will only cost you less. If you make your dumbbell bar and barbell from the same tube, you can use the same plates, saving you time, money, and room space.

In order to make these dumbbells, you will need: a locksmith shop; metal rod - the future neck; thin-walled pipe with a diameter slightly larger than the fingerboard; Sheet steel; safety locks.

Manufacturing

  • First we make the neck. Scrap about 3 cm in diameter is excellent as a base. We saw off a neck from it 35-40 cm long. Then we take a thin-walled pipe and cut off 15 cm from it. It must be put on the neck to protect the place for the hand, in other words, it will be a handle. After making the dumbbell itself, it can be wrapped with electrical tape or covered with a relief.
  • We cut out disks (future pancakes) from sheet steel with autogenous. Do not doubt their weightiness - with a sheet thickness of 1 cm, a disc with a diameter of 18 cm will weigh 2 kilograms. Hang on your dumbbell 10 cm on each side - and you will have 40 kg! If desired, vary the size of the discs to arbitrarily change the weight from the lightest to the heaviest, when training different muscle groups. It would be nice to cut a whole set according to the prototype of factory dumbbells so that in total the weight of one dumbbell could reach 25-30 kg - you are unlikely to need more.
  • We manufacture safety locks. We find a pipe with a diameter slightly larger than our neck and cut off rings 3 cm wide from it. It is necessary that they freely walk along the neck, but do not slip off by themselves. In each ring, you need to drill a fairly wide hole (about 1-1.2 cm) for the screws. After screwing in the screw, the ring will be pressed against the neck and hold the plates. Just do not forget to press it close to the disks so that no play is created.
  • Let's start assembling the dumbbell: in the middle there should already be a tube from point 1, then we hang the discs and fasten them with locking locks.

Tips for making and using homemade shells

The best, of course, are metal dumbbells and barbells. But in their manufacture, you need to be as careful as possible so that the width of the disks and the quality of the locks correspond to your calculations. It is better not to use discs that are too wide - it is better to increase their diameter, or make 2-4 very heavy discs, and the rest - smaller.

Take the time to clean and polish every detail of your new dumbbell or barbell to make it look presentable - paint the pancakes like sporting goods manufacturers do. In the end, it will still cost you less than purchased equipment, and the pleasure of exercising with such equipment and the effort spent on it will motivate you to train regularly, which will certainly benefit you.

How else can you make a barbell at home?

There is another way. Instead of bottles, you can use a pair of plastic eggplants for 3-6 or more liters as weighting agents. And instead of wet sand - a building mixture (cement and sand in a ratio of 1: 2). After adding water to it, we prepare the solution and pour it into the first eggplant. We insert a rod into her neck, previously “dressed” in a hose. Make sure that the neck sinks to the very bottom and stands strictly upright. Now you need to wait a couple of days for the solution to dry well. After that, in exactly the same way, we make the second weighting agent. The disadvantage of this method is that you cannot make a concrete bar in one evening - but it also has advantages. The neck sits very firmly in the hardened cement - no additional fasteners are needed. If you paint the baklags, then the product will acquire a quite decent appearance. It will be more pleasant to train with him - and this is an additional motivation for regular work on your form.
