One of the inhabitants of Australia decided to check how the device works, the drawing of which he took from old books. Inside the post you will find his detailed account of the creation of a fly trap from the Australian colonialists, as well as an impressive "catch" (the view is certainly not for the faint of heart).

We are talking about a dry trap, once in which the flies die from dehydration.

I made it with my own hands from boards and mesh in just a few hours and after 10 months of operation I can say that this is the most high-tech solution without the use of chemicals. At the end, you will see a visual result of her work and, I am sure, you will be very surprised.

Outwardly, the trap resembles a small bedside table made of wood. The design of the trap must be transparent to sunlight, so its walls and lid are made of mesh with small cells.

The main secret of the design is the pyramidal bottom. Flies always fly up towards the light, so the bottom of the trap is made in the shape of a pyramid. The transparent mesh "deceives" the fly, no matter how ridiculous it may sound.

I can't resist spoiling its effectiveness. Guess how long it took? You will find the answer at the end of the article.

As you can clearly see, the design of the flycatcher is quite simple, and it can be assembled from improvised means: the remains of a lining or timber, boards from an unnecessary fence, an old stool or even a bedside table.

I got creative and decided to make the fly trap look professional.

For this:

First I designed the design on the computer.
- I decided to use Australian red cedar as a material.
- The walls will be made of stainless mesh.
- The base pyramid will also be made from this grid.

The first thing to do is figure out what size frame you can have with your wood. In my case, this is a 40 × 40 mm timber.

With the help of a grinder, I bring the wood to a normal state and proceed to making grooves for installing the grid.

Note! The mesh can be screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws, but, again, I wanted to make a high-quality flycatcher, so I approach the process professionally.

I set the saw depth to 12 mm, clamp the timber and make the first cut. Then I repeat the same operation on the other side of the beam so that they are at an angle of 90 degrees.
- Again, we recall our task - to make a professional model. Therefore, I arm myself with a planer and chamfer the corners to give the legs a more noble look.
- Then I process the wood with wax, in order, firstly, to give more saturated color, and secondly, to protect it from moisture.

I'm starting to create the most important part of the flytrap - the pyramidal bottom. This process should be given maximum attention.

When the mesh has been cut and bent, I turn over the body of the wooden flycatcher and fasten the first element of the pyramid mesh. I repeat the same steps with three other pieces of the grid so that the top of the pyramid is inside the body of the trap.

Later, once everything is dry, I cut out the top of this pyramid to create a larger hole.

This is an important part of the work that affects efficiency:

Too small a hole and the flies won't get in;
- too big - and they will run away.

Note! I cut the top of the pyramid to 25mm.

I bought copper loops and a latch hook. Then I drilled holes for the screws in the wood and screwed the hinges to the body and lid.

Advice! You can make baits yourself, or you can buy them in hardware stores. I don't list the names on purpose, because local manufacturers produce them for your area.

And finally, the results of the work for the week - all seven days the flycatcher stood on the lawn near the gazebo, and the flies did not bother us at all.

There were just too many dead flies. I even wanted to evaluate the result with mathematical accuracy, and for this I took some measurements:

To begin with, I poured them into empty plastic containers.
Then I weighed it on an electronic scale. The result is 2.3 kg!

Two and a half kilograms per week, and the flies died from dehydration and their weight was significantly reduced.

By simple calculations and intermediate weighings, I calculated that in just a week my flycatcher caught 1800 flies! Can you imagine how this whole crowd would spoil my vacation if it were not for the flycatcher?

I used to make my own fly traps from an inverted cone, but once I didn’t have tape on hand, so I decided to make another trap. To my surprise, it worked just as well and was even easier to make.

Fruit flies can be a problem in the kitchen, but getting rid of them is very easy.

You just need to follow these steps:

  • Put the bait at the bottom of the container.
  • Cover container with foil.
  • Secure the film with a rubber band.
  • Make holes so that insects can get inside the container.

Step 1: Materials

Materials:

  • Container.
  • Film.
  • Rubber.
  • Bait.

Tools:

  • Something sharp.

Step 2: Choose a container

You want a small container that won't tip over accidentally (especially annoying if you're using red wine as bait). I think that ideal option are yogurt cups or the bottom halves of plastic bottles.

Plastic containers are good because they are disposable - it's easier to throw out a used trap than to clean out flies from a glass.

Step 3: Making the Bait

To lure the flies, you need to put something tasty on the bottom of the container. It is best to put the food they like the most. They are usually attracted to red wine, banana or banana peel, orange juice. Liquid bait is good because the flies drown in it, and do not have time to lay eggs.

I also learned that it is good at attracting flies Apple vinegar, and a little dishwashing detergent hastens the death of trapped insects.

Note: Be careful with dishwashing detergent. I added an apple scent and it repelled all the flies. I had to make another trap, this time without dishwashing liquid, and it worked as it should.

Step 4: Cover the flytrap with foil and fix it

Cover the container with foil and secure with a rubber band.

Step 5: Making Holes

Make 1-4 holes in the film. Holes should be slightly more sizes flies - say, 2 mm. The tighter the film is stretched, the easier it is to pierce.

Step 6: Remove Other Breeding Sites

In order for all insects to fall into the trap, they should not have any other attractive places left in the house - the garbage must be thrown out, all the fruits should be put in the refrigerator. You will only need to follow this for the first couple of days. The more carefully you keep cleanliness, the sooner you will get rid of fruit flies.

In the summer, when fruit is plentiful, I only try to prevent the appearance of flies and simply set the trap in advance.

Step 7: Freezing

Fruit flies reproduce at a tremendous rate, and if you want them to die in the trap, and not breed in it, then you need to periodically destroy these flies. I think, best option- put a homemade fly trap in the freezer at night.

Take an empty soda bottle. You can use an unwanted bottle or buy a new one on purpose. Make sure there is no liquid left in the bottle and rinse it with warm water.

Cut off the top of the bottle. For this you will need scissors. Pierce a hole in the bottle with the tip of scissors (closer to the middle).

  • After piercing the hole, insert scissors into it and cut the bottle across. Cut off the top completely so that you have two parts - the top with the lid and the long bottom.
  • Try to cut as evenly as possible, otherwise the neck will not hold when you turn it over.
  • You can remove the top with a sharp knife, but try not to cut yourself. If you are making a trap with children, it is best to use scissors.
  • Turn the bottle over. Insert inverted neck. If you cut it carefully, it will go all the way in.

Connect the edges. The easiest way is to do this with a stapler 3-4 times along the entire diameter, leaving approximately the same distance between the staples.

    • If you are making the trap with children, staple the two pieces together yourself. If you don't have a stapler, there are two more ways to join the edges.
    • You can use tape or duct tape, but the material must be waterproof. Wrap the edges with tape 3-4 times.
    • You can also use super glue or regular glue, but it should also be water repellent. First, apply a little glue to the edges of the bottle, and then insert the inverted neck inside. Use your fingers to push it down and press the edges. Keep the edges connected until the glue dries.
  • Make a mixture of sugar and water. Pour five tablespoons of sugar into a saucepan. Put the saucepan on the stove. Spread the sugar evenly so that it completely covers the bottom.

    • Pour in enough water to cover the sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil.
    • Mix well. When the sugar dissolves in water, you will have a sweet liquid, but if the water boils, you will get syrup, that is, a more concentrated bait. Let the liquid cool slightly.
  • Spoon the liquid into the neck of the bottle. Try to coat the edges of the neck so that the flies stick to the sugar at the very entrance to the bottle.

Use other baits. You can cut the apple and push the pieces into the neck. A piece of meat or a few tablespoons of aged wine is also suitable. You can simply mix water with sugar or honey.

Add vinegar. If you decide to use liquid bait, add a few tablespoons of vinegar, preferably white. This will repel bees and other unwanted insects.

Put the bottle in the sun. This will speed up the decomposition of the meat and make the bait more attractive to flies. This will also allow the liquid to evaporate, resulting in a substance that will attract insects. Praise yourself for a job well done.

Flies are not just annoying insects, they are carriers of dangerous infections. In the warm season, they get inside when opening doors, through windows and vents. In the fight against them, a fly trap made from a plastic bottle, a tin or glass jar, as well as home-made live devices and sticky tapes, will help.

    Features of homemade fly traps

Homemade devices show good results when used to kill flies. Insects begin to besiege a person in the hot summer months, especially in July and August, when new offspring appear.

Traps fight the invasion of flies. Peculiarity homemade devices- attraction of insects by smell. Flies come to the appetizing aroma, but they can no longer fly away and die of hunger.

A homemade flycatcher does not require special expensive parts. You can invent it from simple tools that are often thrown into the trash. Some elements will need to be purchased, but their cost is negligible compared to purchased flycatchers.

Homemade invention - the best option, because it immediately kills several hundred pests, does not require physical activity, works silently and does not harm the human body, unlike chemicals and poisons.

Attention! A homemade fly trap in the country and in the apartment will not give a 100% guarantee of destruction.

    Warnings:

    1. When disinfecting, you should use products that are safe for people.
    2. If you notice wasps or other insects, buy a special spray and treat the trap before approaching it.
    3. Place homemade models at a distance from flowers and dining tables.

How to make a flycatcher with your own hands

Homemade traps are a great alternative to industrial devices. To fight insects, you will need a minimum of time and tools. Traps are made quickly.

Plus, such devices do not contain chemical substances do not pose a serious threat to human health.

How to make a DIY flycatcher from a plastic bottle

For manufacturing you will need plastic bottle or eggplant, scissors, knife, sugar, honey or banana, dry yeast, water.

    Step-by-step instruction:

    1. Divide the bottle into 3 parts. Cut off the top.
    2. Pour sugar on the bottom so that it completely covers all the bulges.
    3. Add water, honey and yeast. Mix. If using a banana, but cut into small pieces or mash with a fork. The mass should be homogeneous. The bait is a rotten fruit, a piece of meat with a smell, or another product that emits a strong aroma.
    4. Place the top of the bottle upside down, after removing the cap.

Advice! You need to leave a distance between the neck and the sweet bait. Flies fly in and can no longer fly out.

In about a week, the flytrap from the bottle will be filled with insects.

Do not shake the flies out of the trap, throw away the plastic bottle. Make another trap. No need to try to chase out insects. They stuck to the walls and sugar, and even more so to tear off with your hands, this is not hygienic.

How to make a flycatcher with your own hands can be seen in the following video:

How to make your own glass jar fly trap

To make a flycatcher, you will need a glass jar and a funnel. right size. The latter can be made from a plastic bottle.

Place nuts or peanut butter in the bottom of a glass jar. Apple cider vinegar mixed with dishwashing liquid is good at attracting flies. Otherwise, insects will be able to drink it while standing on the surface of the liquid. Overripe fruits that start to rot and ferment work great.

Then a funnel is inserted inside, which should be fixed. There should be no gaps between it and the walls of the glass jar.

Around the circumference can be wrapped with tape or electrical tape

The second option is to finish making an effective fly trap with food film. Wrap her neck tightly. The film must hold, not slide off. You can secure it with a rubber band or wrap it around with tape.

Make a few holes in the middle of the film so that the flies can fly in. They won’t be able to fly out, because they won’t be able to find holes. In addition, the flies will not want to leave the container.

When the trap is filled with enough insects, it should be taken to the bathroom. Turn on hot water in the sink, close the drain hole and the holes in the film. When there is enough water, put a jar in it and leave for 10 minutes. The flies will die from the hot temperature. The rest can be drowned.

Discard the flies along with the contents of the glass jar. To make a new trap, the jar will have to be disinfected or treated with safe chemicals.

How to make your own fly trap from a metal can

For homemade device suitable for any high metal can. For example, from carbonated drinks, stews, dog food. Scotch tape or any sticky tape will come in handy. You can use double sided tape.

Important! The container for making the trap must be washed and dried. Remove label. The brilliant color will attract flies.

    1. Wrap a metal can with sticky tape. If tape is used, wrap it with the sticky side down without touching it. Otherwise, a fly trap will not work.
    2. Rub the tape around the entire circumference with your fingers so that it adheres well to the metal.
    3. Take off the tape. If the surface of the metal can does not stick well, repeat the procedure.
    4. Sweet bait will help attract flies into the trap. The top is covered with cling film, as is the case with a glass jar. Make a hole.

Flies will fly to the smell and stay inside, some of the insects will stick to the outer walls.

When enough fruit flies are gathered outside and inside, the trap is disposed of, it cannot be reused.

Similarly, make a trap from a glass. It is placed on a flat surface, and jam is placed inside. For large individuals, this trap model is not suitable.

How to make an electric flycatcher with your own hands

A homemade automatic fly trap does not protect against insects as effectively as other devices, but is more environmentally friendly. How it works - the light from the incandescent lamp attracts flies, which they can get to through a wire mesh connected to a high voltage. A stun flycatcher with its own hands exposes an insect to an electric discharge, as a result of which it dies.

You will need to buy the following items - a regulator to adjust the required voltage (a dimer is suitable), an ignition coil for an automobile or another, a double grid and a lamp to attract.

The ignition coil without outside help will not be able to generate the high voltage that it could, current beams of no more than 14 watts are fed to its input. To do this, you need a thyristor voltage regulator, which cuts off some part of each half-cycle of alternating current, the pulse duration becomes shorter or longer. The frequency stays the same.

    Connected from a 220 W socket

The design of the thyristor regulator will not allow direct connection to the ignition coil, because it can change the voltage from about 220 watts and above, this is too much for the ignition coil. To do this, a capacitor is connected in series with the regulator.

Next, the voltage is supplied to the common wire of the ignition coil - B, and the left terminal marked with the letter K. High voltage removed from the common wire and from the central high-voltage terminal. The wires are fed to the grid.

By adjusting the voltage of the variable resistor, the moment is selected at which a spark does not start to jump between the grids. Current beats even without a visible arc.

To build the grid, you will need 2 pieces of chipboard, in which you will need to drill 4 holes in the corners and punch studs with a diameter of 6 mm through pieces of chipboard. The wire is wound in a circle around the perimeter of the entire structure. Then drill 4 more holes, but at a distance closer to the edge.

Attention! Before making holes for the inner mesh, you should take this into account, leaving a supply of holes for the outer one.

Use the wire without insulation. Inside the chipboard, make a hole for the lamp so that it freely passes through it.

How to make your own sticky fly trap

The main thing in the flycatcher is a sticky and viscous substance that will not allow the insect to get free. To prepare a fly trap, you will need rosin, castor oil, a thin soft cloth and two sushi sticks, a metal container for boiling the mixture, and a mini burner. Any oil can be used, but then the Velcro will have to be changed more often.

    1. Put rosin (2 parts) in a container, place on a mini-burner. When the mixture boils, hold for a minute.
    2. Add oil (1 part), continue to heat for 60 seconds.
    3. Leave the mixture to cool. After 20 minutes, it will thicken if the proportions are chosen correctly.
    4. Push the material between the fastened chopsticks from under the sushi. Wrap the strip several times to fix the fabric.
    5. Apply the prepared adhesive evenly on the material.
    6. Twist the fabric with chopsticks so that the back is also smeared. If there is excess around the edges, remove it.

It is necessary to change the trap when there is no free space left on the adhesive tape, or new flies are able to free themselves.

Hang the finished Velcro in the place of the local accumulation of flies. Attach the trap to a clothespin or attach to the ceiling with a button.

How to make your own Australian Flycatcher

This best trap for flies, getting into which they die from dehydration. Australian device homemade type- the most high-tech solution without the use of chemicals.

Step-by-step instructions for making a trap:

    1. Take a bar of the required size. Optimal - 40 by 40 mm.
    2. Make grooves for installing the grid. Set the saw depth to 12 mm, clamp the timber and make cuts. Repeat the process on the other side so that they are at an angle of 90 ° C. Connect the frame so that makeshift trap were legs.
    3. Make a pyramidal bottom. Give the process maximum attention. Cut the mesh into 4 triangles, turn the model over and screw them to the bars so that the pyramid is inside the body.
    4. Make a hole in the top so that the flies can enter but cannot escape. Close the remaining sides with a dense mesh. Put a lid on the top of the box so that it closes tightly.
    5. Put bait inside.

You can set the trap on the lawn or in the house. It is recommended to make the bait yourself or buy it in a hardware store.

A huge number of flies will gather in the trap in a week

How to make a DIY window fly trap

Such a device is made according to the type of adhesive tape. Only glue is applied to one side of the fabric. With the sticky part, the glue window fly trap is turned away from the window. You can attach the fabric with a hot gun or use buttons for old frames.

For the second method of making a window fly trap, you will need a cardboard box or a rectangular-type metal container. The width should match the corner of the window.

Cut the container at an angle, leave a partition at the bottom. Treat the inside with adhesive.

Caught insects remain inside, the product should be changed as flies stick

How to make a DIY outdoor fly trap

In the summer, it is impossible to sit outside on a warm evening. Flies literally swarm together, bite. They fly into the world. For the street, you can make a trap from a plastic bottle with sunflower oil or other bait.

Cut off the top of the container along the edge, put something inside that will attract flies. With a sharp object, make two holes on the sides of the neck, thread the rope. Remove the cap, insert the top into the bottom of the plastic bottle, secure the structure with tape or electrical tape. Hang a homemade trap under the lamp.

Attention! Such a device will also attract mosquitoes. Once inside, they can't get out.

    Street trap options

You can put the product near the house, next to the outdoor toilet, chicken coop or barn. If natural baits are used, they are placed near the resting place.

How to make your own fly trap with an ultraviolet flashlight

A more complex device with an ultraviolet flashlight attracts insects better. For manufacturing, you will need a tin can, scotch tape or electrical tape.

Wash the jar and dry it in the sun so that the glue remains on the outer surface. Stick the adhesive tape on the outer surface, put in a warm place for an hour. Glue the flashlight inside with hot glue. Remove tape. Turn on flashlight.

Advice! It is not necessary to buy a flashlight to make a trap. A small keychain with UV light is enough.

The light will attract flies, which will stick to the sticky side of the can along the way, this design works more efficiently at night.

The second way to make a homemade trap with an ultraviolet flashlight:

    1. Get a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid.
    2. Make a hole in the bottom. Skip the fabric, tie a knot so that it does not pass through the hole. The fabric on the other side will be attached to the ceiling with a button.
    3. Make many holes in the container. Tape the plastic jar with tape, leave for a while. Put away sticky tape, glue should remain on the surface.
    4. put inside ultraviolet flashlight, turn on. The light will pass through many holes, attracting flies, which, trying to crawl through the small holes, will stick to the surface of the container.

How to increase the effectiveness of traps

The likelihood of insects disappearing quickly will increase if several types of traps are used. To catch more flies, it is recommended to make several homemade devices and place them at different ends of the apartment or garden.

Attention! The flies should not be able to intercept a piece of food outside the trap.

The effectiveness of crafts will be higher if you remove all the food in the apartment and take out the garbage. All food should be stored in the refrigerator. Especially berries.

The flower of Dionea will help to increase the effectiveness of traps. He is not whimsical in care, he can be planted in the garden near the place of rest or kept in the house. It is a predatory flower, it eats insects.

    Conclusion

A fly trap from a plastic bottle is the simplest, it can be quickly made. At the same time, it is not inferior to industrial production devices in terms of efficiency. All proposed models of traps can be used in the fight against other insects - wasps, hornets, mosquitoes.

Do the fruit flies get to the fruit bowl faster than you? If annoying insects have settled in your home, these unwanted guests are unlikely to leave it voluntarily. Luckily, there are a few simple steps you can take to get rid of fruit flies and keep them from coming back.

    Steps

    With a paper funnel

Take a tall jar, a bottle of wine or a sweet drink, or a vase. This will be the base of your trap. Almost any bank will do.

Put down the bait. Fruit flies love sweets, so you have a lot of options. You can use fruit, juice, a sugary drink, or any other sweet food that will lure flies into the container. Below we give some examples of baits in descending order of effectiveness:

      • Overripe or rotten fruits, cut into pieces. You can put a crushed banana, rotten berries or peach.
      • Honey, maple or corn syrup.
      • Any fruit juice or sweet drink. It is better to use ordinary sparkling water - low-calorie will not work.
      • Apple cider vinegar or soy sauce.
      • Leftover wine or beer in the bottle will also work. Fruit flies fly to the sugar in alcohol.
    1. Roll a sheet of paper into a tube and insert into a container. A funnel with a small hole will allow the flies to get in, but they won't be able to get out. Secure the funnel with tape to keep it in shape. Place it in the neck of the container with the narrow side down. The tip of the funnel should not touch the bait.

      • You can use any unnecessary paper or even tear out a page from an old magazine.
      • You can also take a coffee filter and poke a hole in the bottom of the filter with a toothpick.
    2. Set the trap in a place where there are a lot of flies. Place the trap near the kitchen sink, trash can, or fruit basket. If there are flies in several parts of the kitchen, you will need to use several traps.

Destroy the caught flies. Pour into container warm water mixed with dishwashing detergent. The detergent will reduce the surface tension of the water and drown the flies. Wait 1-2 minutes, then pour out the contents of the jar.

      • If there are still live flies in the trap, take the trap outside and only then remove the tube.
      • Rinse the container under hot water. You can use it again or make a new trap out of something else.
    3. Repeat until the trap is empty. Fruit flies reproduce quickly. Their life cycle can last only 8 days. For this reason, you will most likely have to repeat everything several times in order to completely get rid of the flies.

Seek help from experts. If you have a large number of fruit flies that you cannot handle, call an exterminator to treat the fly habitat with special products. However, this is unlikely to be necessary if you pack food tightly and keep the kitchen clean. Look up the phone numbers of local disinfection services on the Internet.

How to get rid of eggs

Know why flies are hatched. Fruit flies lay their eggs where there is food and moisture (e.g. decaying fruit, wet sinks, trash cans). To get rid of eggs, you need to understand where the flies find food in your kitchen.

      • Very often, flies gather near bags or baskets of rotting fruit. Even if you bought fresh fruit, you may be storing it in a bowl that has rotten spots that attract flies.
      • If you store compost in your kitchen, it can be a food source for fly larvae.
      • An open trash can can also attract flies, especially if it contains unwashed beer or soda cans.
      • When was the last time you cleaned a trash can? Even if you take out the trash regularly, old trash left in the bottom of the bin can be the cause of the problem.
      • Flies often accumulate in the sink, as pieces of food often remain in the drain and begin to rot.
      • Wet sponges and rags are a good breeding ground for flies.
    1. Pack your products carefully. If you have flies, do not leave food on the table at room temperature. Store them in an airtight bag or in the refrigerator until the problem is resolved. One piece of overripe fruit can cause a fly infestation as it will provide an excellent breeding ground.

      • Do not throw fruit leftovers in the trash. Unless you take out the trash daily, don't put peach pits, apple cores, and other fruit peels in your kitchen trash can, as they will attract fruit flies. Take fruit scraps outside immediately.
    2. Flush all trash cans. Flies can lay eggs in garbage cans. All the tanks that are in the house should be washed with hot water and detergent if you notice eggs there. Throw out the trash more often to prevent the problem from happening again.

      • Continue washing your containers weekly, especially in late summer when fruit flies are abundant.
      • Before throwing away bottles and cans, rinse them with hot water. Remains of food and liquids can get on the walls of the trash can, which will cause even more flies.
      • All tanks should have lids that close tightly.
    3. Clean out the drain. To check for flies in the drain, cover it with a piece of cling film, previously lubricated with honey. Put the film honey down and come back in an hour. If you see flies stuck to the film, it means that there are eggs in the drain.

      • Check if the drain works well. If it's clogged or the food grinder is not working, there could be a lot of rotting food leftovers that attract flies.
      • To get rid of eggs, pour boiling water mixed with detergent into the drain. Scrub the drain with a brush.
      • Do not pour chlorine bleach down the drain. This will not only not help, but will be harmful to the environment.
    4. Get rid of other possible sources of flies. Old dish sponges, damp cloths, old rugs, and other things you use to clean surfaces and floors can contain fly eggs. Throw them away or machine wash at high temperature.

    5. Wipe down all surfaces in the kitchen. Wipe the surfaces with a cloth dampened with hot soapy water. Treat all cracks and depressions where eggs can be laid. Wipe down drawers, pantry shelves, and anywhere you store fruits, juices, and other sugary foods.

      • Check the floor too. If you spilled a drink under the refrigerator, this could be causing the problem. Wipe any areas that seem sticky.
      • Keep kitchen surfaces clean daily. Wipe down all surfaces after every meal.
      • Wash dishes immediately after eating. Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink. If you have a dishwasher, put the dishes in it and close the door.
    • If you choose to use vinegar, make sure you choose the right one. White vinegar will not work. Malt and red vinegar will work, but not as well as apple cider vinegar. You can also use beer and balsamic vinegar. Wine attracts flies very well, so you can catch them in a wine bottle (with a little wine at the bottom) without any additional tricks.
    • If fruit flies bred in a pot with houseplant Let the soil dry completely between waterings. This will kill most of the larvae, and the adults do not live long and will soon disappear. Check the soil for dryness and water plants with tough leaves as they can dry out and die.
    • Close alcohol bottles very tightly. If the bottle cap has a spout, cover it with cellophane. Wash the bottles from the outside down to the spout every other day using an ammonia-based cleaner.
    • Hang duct tape in the flies' habitats. It doesn't look pretty, but it's very effective. Some types of adhesive tape contain toxic substances. Use tapes with care and out of the reach of children.
    • Fruit flies also lay their eggs in the feces of domestic animals. Clean up after your pets as soon as possible.

    Warnings

    • Some toxic detergents, for example, containing chlorine compounds, it is recommended to spray only in well-ventilated areas. Try to wear a protective mask while doing this. It is not recommended to use such products if you are concerned about the presence of toxic substances in the air.
    • Never touch the garbage disposal with your hands. Push something with a wooden spoon or something similar. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

  • close
