The process of sticking film on windows is not complicated, but requires experience and adherence to the procedure for sticking film on windows. You can actually stick the film yourself. To do this, we publish instructions for self-sticking (installation) of film on windows. This instruction allows you to stick all types of window film.

Instructions for self-installation (sticker) of film on windows

  1. We glue (install) the film only from the inside of the room. It must not be exposed to rain and snow.
  2. Make accurate measurements of the glass to be pasted and draw up a cutting chart (i.e. plan how you will cut the film).
  3. Use scissors or a utility knife to cut pieces of film based on the cutting chart. The size of a piece of film should be 2 cm in width and length larger than the glass on which this piece is glued. You will cut off these excesses at the very end of the film sticker.
  4. Prepare an alkaline solution with which you will wash the glass before installation. Recipe for a solution to prepare a window for tinting: 50 ml of detergent (for example, fairy or baby shampoo) in 1.5 liters of water.
  5. Moisten the glass with an alkaline solution and rubber spatula walk over the surface of the glass. Drive away water and dirt. Move the scraper over the glass surface from left to right and from top to bottom.
  6. Re-wet the glass and use a "rubber with metal edge" scraper, such as those sold for cleaning car windows, to sweep any water down the glass.
  7. Wet the glass heavily with an alkaline solution and spray water in front of the glass so that all the dust around the glass cannot settle on the wet glass.
  8. Remove the protective layer from the prepared piece of tinted film. Tip: stick tape on the corner on both sides and pull the tape in different directions.
  9. As soon as the protective layer is removed, spray the adhesive layer with an alkaline solution. This will neutralize the adhesive and allow the film to move across the glass as it is applied.
  10. Attach the top corners of the film to the glass. Fix them and smooth them. Lower the bottom corners of the film and allow the film to adhere to the glass.
  11. Spread the film over the glass avoiding creases and creases. And starting from the center with a rubber spatula, drive water from under the film. The movements should be short, no more than 20 cm. Each movement, start from the place where the film has stuck and move to the edge of the film.
  12. Cut off the excess film around the edges with a utility knife.
  13. If dust particles, hairs are visible under the film, then remove them as quickly as possible. To do this, lift the edge closest to the mote, remove the mote and moisten the film. If the mote is hardly noticeable, then we advise you not to remove it, since the film becomes electrified from smoothing and begins to attract motes from the air. And there is a chance by removing one mote to get several new ones.
  14. This completes the installation of the film on the windows. It is forbidden to wash the film within 5 days after its installation. Cleaning windows in the future detergents without abrasive particles (for example, window cleaner can be washed, but not with scouring powder).

ANSWERS ON QUESTIONS

Do you do car tinting?

No. We do not tint cars.

Is it possible to install a protective film on the glass outside the room?

It doesn't make sense. The reinforcing coating must always be located on the side opposite to the possible impact. In addition, the film should not be exposed to atmospheric influences. The perfect place for the film - in the inter-glass space (inside the double-glazed window).

Is there a film through which I will see, but not me?

In principle, films with one-sided transparency do not exist, but the use of mirror metallized films makes it possible to achieve a similar effect. Moreover, this becomes possible if you are on the less illuminated side. That is, if you are indoors and there is a bright sun outside, the glass surface will look like a mirror from the street. If you turn on the light in the room at night, silhouettes will be visible from the street.

What problems can arise when self-sticking a film on glass?

  • If you poorly prepare the window for pasting, then the film will stick with defects (there will be specks and bubbles under the film).
  • If you make mistakes in cutting, then you may not have enough film for all the windows, or you will have to glue strips of film on the windows, which will greatly ruin appearance.

Is it possible to book and tint glass at the same time?

Can. There are explosion-proof and at the same time tinting films. Thickness 125 microns and 54% reflection of solar energy - Solarblock Safety IR-cut 5050 .

Do the glasses with the film installed on them require special care?

Special care for the tint film is not required. The film has an anti-scratch layer, so it can be washed with any cleaner that does not contain abrasives.

Can a protective film replace grilles?

Yes, if the purpose of installing gratings is to prevent unauthorized entry into the room. A blow with a hard object on glass with an impact-resistant film punches a hole in it approximately the same size as the impact tool. It will take a considerable amount of time to widen the gap necessary for access to the interior of the room. This means that security personnel have the opportunity to respond to an alarm and prevent a crime. In addition, any object thrown at armored glass, be it a rock, a grenade, or a Molotov cocktail, bounces off and stays outside. If it becomes necessary to leave the room through a window (for example, in case of fire), then such glass is easily squeezed out from the inside.

Decided to buy a mirror film for tinting doors or windows? Before purchasing and sticking a mirror film, read our tips. We will tell you how to stick a mirror film on the window glass to protect the room from overheating and at the same time make it invisible from the street.

With mirror films on window panes, buildings look more solid and modern, temperature regime indoors becomes more comfortable. Such films are chosen for apartments, private country cottages and modern business centers.

What to buy FUSION mirror films for window tinting?

When choosing a mirror film for gluing on a window, pay attention to the following parameters:

COLOR

Trade brand FUSION offers films:

  • classic mirror (dark and light) - suitable for decorating strict and stylish buildings;
  • colored mirror (blue, gold, green, bronze, gray) - emphasize the individuality of the architectural structure.

Classical and color mirror films have a percentage of light transmission from 10 to 50%.

An important point - colored mirror films have an adhesive composition on a colored surface and are glued from the inside of the room with the colored side to the glass. A pronounced color in the daytime will be from the side of the street, from the room - slightly darkened glass with a slight color accent.

PURPOSE

Mirror films are divided into: interior (for gluing indoors) and exterior (for installation on a window from the street).

To install the film on the inner glass of an insulating glass unit, we advise you to buy a not too dark mirror tint film, i.e. with light transmission of 30%, 35% or 50%. This will prevent excessive heating of the structure. Darker films are allowed to be glued inside the double-glazed window (at the window manufacturing stage) or on single glass.

To stick the film on the outside of the glass, you can buy an external mirror film:

Mirrored exterior films are coded with the letters "XT" (i.e. intended for installation from the street). Equipped with an additional protective layer, which makes the product resistant to atmospheric influences. In rooms where the windows are pasted over with such films, you can not use the air conditioner, since the exterior "classic mirror" can reflect up to 81% solar energy. The advantage of the outer mirror film is its effectiveness, the disadvantages are the limited service life (several years) and the complexity of installation associated with the need to completely dismantle the double-glazed window during gluing.

VISIBILITY

In order to properly paste the mirror film on the window, and it looked “like a mirror” only on one side, one should take into account its peculiarity - to mirror in the direction where the lighting is brighter. That is, during the day the film mirrors from the side of the street (where the sun shines), but hides interior spaces, and in the evening it changes the direction of specularity (rooms will be visible from the street if the light is on). In this case, it does not matter at all which side of the glass the film is pasted on.

With the help of a mirror film, one-sided visibility can only be achieved by adjusting the illumination. In the rooms under observation, the illumination should be better and brighter than in the guard room. Then the observer will be hidden from people on the viewed object.

You can enhance the effect by installing an additional tint, non-reflective film on top of the mirror film indoors. This will get rid of excessive internal specularity on the inner glass in the evening.

In the FUSION assortment there is, thanks to which it is easier to achieve the effect of one-way visibility. Since the percentage of internal reflection in it is less than external by 24%. This "police mirror" almost always mirrors the street. Another one important feature- due to the use of oxidized aluminum in the manufacture of the product, it is not subject to demetallization and discoloration.

Mirror film on window glass: instructions on how to glue

A brief diagram of the stages of film gluing:

After watching a video on how to glue a mirror film on windows, it seems that everything is simple. In fact, even the slightest mistake will hopelessly spoil the appearance and properties of the film, swelling and debris may remain under the film. The slightest defects are visible under the mirror film much more than when sticking a conventional tint film. Therefore, the ideal solution is

Self-adhesive mirror film has not surprised anyone for a long time. More and more people are using it to make their lives more comfortable and beautiful. What is this material, what advantages does it have?

What is mirror film

Note! Self-adhesive polymer films with a metal coating that reflects light are called mirror films.

A variety of film materials have varying degrees of light reflection, thickness and density, affecting its quality and price.

At one time, mirror films were very popular with motorists. for several reasons:

  • hid those sitting in the car from prying eyes;
  • partly protected the interior from overheating;
  • sun protection film on the windshield shielded the driver's eyes from sun rays and oncoming headlights;
  • high-density film materials protected the glass from breaking and dispersing small fragments.

True, at night and in the evening, the visibility of the road was sharply reduced, which increased the accident rate. And therefore, in a number of countries, tinting of car windows was prohibited.

But transparent materials with an adhesive surface began to be used for home and office windows.

At one time, mirror films were very popular with motorists.

Material for manufacturing

The most common raw material for the production of reflective film materials is (PVC). Differ 2 types of films:

  1. Calendered, rolled with hot calender rolls, melted granules or polyvinyl chloride powder. Belongs to the economy class. The disadvantage is, albeit slow, but shrinkage, a tendency to shrink.
  2. Cast ones are produced in a slightly different way, and are of higher quality. Polyvinyl chloride granules with dye (for tinting materials) are melted in the furnace. The molten mass flows out onto the belt, forming a film. Passes through the primer rollers, then heats up again. At this stage, a polymer plasticizer is added. The heated mass is rolled out by the calibrator, cooled and wound on the shaft. Cast tape is of higher quality. It is less prone to shrinkage, more plastic, and therefore does not tear as quickly as calendered.

Please note that cast films are stronger, higher quality. If you want the self-adhesive to last longer, choose cast.

Elite film polymers include those made polyurethane. They are distinguished by higher wear resistance, strength, and are not afraid of temperature changes. But they are also much more expensive.

The most common raw material for the production of reflective film materials is polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Mirror Film Properties

Light reflection

Reflection of light is the main purpose of a mirror material. From the street, it looks like reflective foil, or a mirror. It reflects the sun's rays, objects, people on the street. Materials with tinting have the appropriate shades: blue, green, cherry, brown, etc. Silvery films reflect up to 30% sunlight. Tinted films absorb part of the sun's rays, so that even less light enters the room.

Dark tint finishes undesirable to stick in children's rooms, kitchen, living room, as they absorb up to 80% of light. In autumn and winter when sunny days there will be very little darkness in living quarters, people will experience discomfort. During the day, additional lighting is required.

It is advisable to stick darkened tints on the bedrooms, especially if the sun looks there in the morning and is used only for sleeping. In other rooms, bluish or silver is suitable.

Mirror sun control film protects the room and objects in it from burnout. This property can be successfully used in art galleries, museums.

Thermal insulation

Summer sun rays have a negative effect on furniture. Summer heat destroys the lacquer surface, causing it to crack. Under the action of heat, the veneer on cabinet furniture may lag behind.

Suffering from the sun's rays cushioned furniture. Fabrics burn out, lose light. Artificial leather, leather substitutes crack under the influence of heat within 2-3 years, the upper “leather” layer peels off. Wallpaper on the walls is subject to fading.

As you know, a significant proportion of winter heat loss falls on glass. Self-adhesive mirror film has properties, and will not release heat from the house. Thus, in the summer, the mirror film for the window will not let excess heat into the house from the street, but in the winter it will not let the heat out of the house.

impact resistance

Self-adhesive mirror film on windows significantly increases strength glass. The increased impact resistance is explained three reasons:

  1. The adhesive layer that holds the film on the window somewhat links the crystal lattices of the glass, thereby increasing the impact resistance.
  2. Part of the impact force is absorbed by the polymer, and the glass bears a significantly weakened force.
  3. Even if the glass does break, it will hold on the adhesive layer.

The most durable polyurethane film materials are able to protect glass from a blast wave or from a shot from a traumatic pistol.

decorative properties

From the street, mirrored glass looks unusual. In low-lying windows you can look like in a mirror.

Mirror sun control film is great solution for French balconies, where the lower glass is often pasted over with a colored metallic tint.

Scope of mirror films

Looks unusual and stylish decorative film in the form of a mirror application or rosette. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) - most often used in interior design. It is ideal for decorating ceilings and walls. Mirror PVC panels without an adhesive layer are used as stretch ceilings. Unlike window films, ceiling film is not transparent material, and therefore systems are perfectly hidden under it ceiling mounts, electrical wiring and communication pipes. PVC material has high enough strength, not prone to flammability.

The disadvantage of PVC films is that at -15°C they become brittle and brittle. This limits the use on the street, but does not prevent the use of mirrored or decorated with a pattern, self-adhesive films in the interior of the room. For example, sheets of stained glass film are glued to interior glass doors, wardrobes, etc.

Polyurethane films can be mirror and stained glass. Self-adhesive stained glass navels are used in car tuning.

Mirrored windows are used for pasting large windows in offices and shopping centers.

Automotive PU films protect the surface of the car from impacts of pebbles flying off from under the wheels of passing cars.

Along with the thinnest films, made of PVC and other plastics, they produce denser sheet material with a metallic reflective surface, which is applied for decorating walls.

Such sheets have a thickness of up to 2 mm, and are glued to smooth, carefully plastered walls. A safe mirror pushes the walls apart, visually enlarges the space. You can stick it in the bathroom without fear that it will break and hurt someone.

How to stick a mirror film

Mirror Self Adhesive Window Film pasted by yourself if the glass is small. But it will be more convenient and efficient to work with an assistant. One holds the film so that it does not slip, the other pulls and expels water from under it. A sheet is cut from the film to fit the glass plus an allowance of approximately 1 cm on each side. The sheet is pasted on cleanly washed damp glass.

It is important that there are no grease stains and dust on the window before pasting. Therefore, before pasting the glass is washed warm water with the addition of dish shampoo. Then the remains of the shampoo are washed off the glass, and the glass itself is wetted with clean water. Water is applied with a household spray gun both on the glass and on the film. On moistened glass, the canvas is easily adjusted and leveled.

After the material has been leveled, water is expelled from under the upper edge, and the edge of the sheet itself is rubbed so that it grabs a little with the glass.

Then, with a rubber spatula, water should be carefully expelled from the center to the edges, holding the material with one hand.

Try to keep it from moving out and puckering up.

In conclusion, when all the water has been driven out, the frame must be wiped of water with a soft rag, and the excess carefully cut off with a wallpaper knife, but so as not to damage the wood or plastic.

Note! In the same way, you can glue the mirror.

The film material pasted on the mirror will extend the life of the glass and make it safe. This is especially true if there are small children or pets in the house.

Where to buy mirror film

Mirror self-adhesive films for interior decoration can buy in construction, hardware stores and even on the Internet. There is consumer demand for film polymers, which store owners strive to satisfy. The price ranges from 250 to 650 rubles for 1 running meter. Wholesale buyers, for example, companies specializing in working with interiors, can purchase a film sheet in a roll at a wholesale price - from 1,400 rubles per roll.

Inexpensive film coatings used in the interior have another advantage. Annoyed polymer is easily removed from the wall or glass with a hair dryer. And in its place, you can stick a new coating of a different color, with a different pattern. Thus, the interior can be refreshed at any time.

The use of special solar protection film on windows is a thoughtful and rational solution for many apartment and private houses, the windows in the premises of which face the sunny side. It is chosen, as a rule, for protection from sunlight and prying eyes.

Important! Toning with the help of such a film is an actual and even trendy solution that has become widespread in Europe and the CIS countries.

If a person lives on the ground floor, then you can hide the interior of the apartment from prying eyes with the help of thick dark curtains, blinds, but often with the use of all these means there are certain difficulties, because it is not always possible to hang heavy blackout curtains or order the installation of blinds on window.

Therefore, as an alternative to curtains and blinds, you can consider a film that can be glued to windows of any type. It can be glued without problems on your own - without resorting to the help of specialists.

Therefore, to glue the sun-protection film on plastic windows you can do it yourself, savings arise already at the stage of purchase and installation of the product. Purchasing curtains or installing blinds is an expensive undertaking, while film sun protection material will be inexpensive. You can glue the mirror film on any type of windows: wooden, plastic, aluminum.

Companies that manufacture such protective film products claim that their products are gradually replacing bulky and uncomfortable blinds from the market.

The film has the following advantages:

  • The ability to control the level of illumination of the room.
  • Ensuring that indoor plants are protected from direct sunlight.
  • Ensuring the protection of curtains from UV exposure and fading (which is important if the curtains are colored).
  • Providing protection furniture upholstery from burnout.
  • A high level of security, protection of the home from burglary and unauthorized entry.

Important! You can glue the film on the windows yourself - it sticks by itself, so no additional adhesives are required.

Before gluing a protective film on windows, you need to figure out what kind of film material you should buy, because. Several types of such products are sold in stores at once.

Taking into account the requirements for the functions of the film material, the following types of products can be distinguished:

  • Automotive.
  • Architectural.
  • Decorative.
  • Protective.
  • Sun protection.

It is possible to glue a self-adhesive film on windows made of wood or plastic. These products are made from polyester. This polymeric substance provides complete transparency of the film material, a high level of its elasticity, as well as decent strength.

If it was decided to glue the film on the window, then when choosing a model, it should be taken into account that products can have a different number of layers (single-layer, two-layer, multilayer materials), a different composition of each layer (for example, polyester and other types polymer materials), coloring pigment substances (to give the product certain color characteristics).

There are several ways to escape the summer heat. The first is to buy an air conditioner, but this is an expensive pleasure. The second is to hang blinds in the room. It is more profitable, but the product is not durable. In addition, it must be regularly looked after. The third is to stick a film that would protect from sunlight. The method is the cheapest, takes little time, and anyone can do it. More than one video has been made on how to stick sun protection film on a window, but the main aspects of transforming a room are covered below.

Features of the film from heat and sun

This is not about aluminum foil, but about the film. The first is opaque, the second has one transparent side. This edge during installation, it turns into the room.

The film can be applied to the window both from the outside of the windows and from the inside. It is made from metallized polyethylene terephthalate, at the final stage of manufacturing it is a mirror. The transparency of a sunscreen product is different, and the service life when applied externally is estimated at 2-3 years. If you stick a transparent foil on the window from the inside, the durability increases significantly.

The advantages of a solar control film (in addition to the function implied by the name) are:

  • high degree of light and heat reflection;
  • prevention of fading of furniture, interior items, expensive items that are sensitive to the sun;
  • the ability to protect yourself from prying eyes from the street.

Some users noted the negative side of the product - the difficulty of transmitting ultraviolet rays, which is bad for indoor plants. But even if you close them from the sun with a film, required amount light and heat will still reach the foliage and soil, allowing flowers to develop normally.

Product installation instructions

To properly stick the film on the window, you will need the following tools, which are usually present in every home:

  • detergent/cleaner for windows and mirror surfaces;
  • water atomizer (liquid sprayer);
  • rubber or plastic spatula (cotton and viscose fabric);
  • stationery knife.

There are two ways to install solar control film. The first is not reliable and consists in gluing the product on adhesive tape, sticky tape or fixing with buttons to the frame. It is better to stick the film on the window using a special solution.

Sequential installation of a sun protection product includes the following steps:

  • Window washing.

A special tool is used. It is better to wash the surface on both sides.

  • Solution preparation.

It is a mixture of liquid soap and water. It is not necessary to shake it strongly, as abundant foaming will occur. The mixture is prepared in a spray bottle, after which it is sprayed. The properties of soap will allow you to properly glue the film, moving it to the desired position.

  • Alignment of the film on the window.

The sun protection product is applied to the surface, moved to the desired position. When it "sits down", you need to take a spatula and smooth the film with gentle movements from the center to the edges. This will remove the bubbles. When the surface becomes perfectly even, smooth, leave it to dry completely.

  • Removing excess edges.

If a workpiece of the required size was not cut before gluing, it is possible to separate the excess parts of the material after the film has dried.

It is advisable not to make the template strictly according to the size of the window, since after drying it may shrink.

Features of installation of anti-vandal films

There are products that can not only protect the room from the sun, but also prevent penetration from the outside, as well as make the glass more resistant to mechanical damage.

Anti-vandal films are mainly used in banks, museums, shopping centers, institutions where expensive and valuable items are located, but they can find a place, for example, in a luxurious country cottage.

Structurally, the product differs from the sunscreen, so the technology of application to the surface is somewhat different. The composition with which the film is fixed on the window is indicated on the label or in the instructions. Also, complete drying lasts much longer, ranging from 2 to 4 months. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the mechanical impact on the anti-vandal foil during this period is minimal.

The user will prolong the life of their thin film applied windows by considering the following recommendations:

  • it is better to choose the most opaque product (except when the windows face north or on a territory heavily darkened by trees);
  • during the first month after complete drying, it is undesirable to wet the film; later treatment with detergents will not violate the integrity of the windows and will not affect the durability of the product;
  • owners who are worried about the health and safety of their children or pets should take a closer look at the anti-vandal type of foil - in addition to protection against burglary, it reduces the risk of damage by glass fragments.

To escape from the summer heat, you can go different ways. If the tenants decide to put sun protection film on the windows of their apartment. They will guess with the fastest, most profitable and very effective way. It remains only to choose the right type of product, not miscalculating with its transparency. A few minutes of work are worth it to always be comfortable indoors.
