Steel wheels of passenger cars - the parts are quite durable. Steel disc, made by stamping, may not deteriorate from time to time. The only thing is that with prolonged use the paint gradually scratches. To prevent the formation of rust, discs are changed or repainted. How to paint stamped wheels, we talk about in the next chapter. Enjoy reading.

It is clear that it is best to clean the disc "to metal" before painting. In this case, only sandpaper (ISO P400-P1500) and maybe a drill with a metal brush are used.

This is how the old paint layer is removed

The problem is that it will take more than one day to complete such a cleaning. But, the result will delight in its appearance:

Fully cleaned steel disc

In order not to waste time in vain, the surface is only cleaned of rust, then polished and degreased. " Old paint”Remains. This option is also considered acceptable. Let's list the stages of preparation "step by step":

  1. Thorough rinsing of the disc with water. Use a brush to simplify the task;
  2. Mechanical cleaning from rust;
  3. If necessary, you can use a rust converter: the agent is applied, left for 2 hours, then the surface is sanded and cleaned. In this case, you cannot use water!
  4. Degreasing (white spirit or solvent 646 is suitable);
  5. if the wheel has obvious defects.
  6. Application of two coats of primer at intervals of 20 minutes.

In the last step, a universal acrylic primer is used. These products are sold in aerosols.

Primer application

Note that phosphoric acid can act as a rust converter. And to dry the soil, if the finishing layer is applied, it takes a day.

It is important to know: once a risk has been made on the metal with sandpaper, the water should not touch the surface in principle. Use organic solvents for cleaning.

The priming itself is a dress rehearsal of the painting process. To simplify these "processes", the disc can be placed on an inverted bucket. The rim is then painted by turning the disc with the right side towards you. As you can see, everything is simple.

Perhaps, after applying the primer, you will have to work with sandpaper. Sanding with P1500 sandpaper is carried out already before painting, which is mandatory.

Painting process

So we got to the most important thing. Let's consider how to paint stamped discs correctly so that you don't have to redo everything from scratch later. In principle, there is nothing complicated in this process:

Rim paint application

Of course, not everyone has a spray gun, as well as special equipment. Therefore, an inverted bucket, unnecessary tires, etc. will help again. The main thing is to be smart, as the author of this photo did:

Homemade disk rig

And also, it is advisable to adhere to the tips:

  • Using an aerosol, the can should be shaken periodically;
  • The temperature of the aerosol package should not be too low: 30-35 degrees is the norm;
  • Keep the aerosol at a distance of 20 cm from the surface (not less);
  • When painting, you cannot linger in one place for a long time, otherwise streaks will form.

The paint is applied in two or three layers, keeping an interval of 10 minutes. An hour after painting, the surface is varnished. You can use the finished product in a day. But it is better to wait 60-80 hours - during this time the varnish is gaining maximum strength.

Usually acrylic paint, glossy or matte, is used for metal painting. The primer for this paint is also acrylic (universal). There are also nitro paints. All of these materials are packaged in an aerosol. But for nitro enamels, as it is easy to understand, not every primer is suitable. Be aware that nitrogen (nitro) based primers and paints are prohibited in most countries.

Here are some tips that even beginners know:

  1. The higher the air temperature, the faster drying is;
  2. The color of the primer should roughly match the color of the paint;
  3. The aerosol must be shaken before use. Moreover, the packaging temperature should not be lower than 25 degrees. The advice applies to any aerosol: paint, primer or varnish.

It was said how to paint stamped discs, if you know that the work will be done by hand. And therefore, such an option as the use of powder paints was not considered. Good luck.

According to reviews, 4 disks are consumed: 2 cans of dye (450 ml), one can of primer (450 ml), one can of varnish.

Dismantling is optional

Sometimes, to complete the painting faster, the wheels are painted without removing the tires. First, the pressure is reduced to the maximum, and then, as can be seen from the photo, masking tape is used:

Scotch tape glued under the rim edge

Perhaps comments are unnecessary here. Do the same to save time.

Hub like a lathe

There is a method that allows you to quickly paint over the rim:

  1. Let's say there is rust on the surface of the rim. To find out about this, you will have to disassemble the disk (Fig. 1);
  2. Further, the disk is attached to the hub, the engine is started and the gear is switched on (Fig. 2);
  3. If using the left hub, turn the steering wheel to the left and vice versa;
  4. Using sandpaper on a fabric basis, carry out grinding (Fig. 3). It is better to fix the sandpaper on the bar;
  5. Just as in step 4 the “preparation” was done, you can paint (Fig. 4).

All steps are illustrated in the photo:

Use the specified method at your own risk.

How the border is made

You can buy contour tape to paint in two colors. Standard Option two-tone color - border near the rim. The result of all work will look like this:

Stamped discs with border

The border color is the first coat of paint. Rather, two or three layers. Remember the following when doing two-tone painting:

  • Before sticking the tape, the paint must be allowed to dry. Which takes 15-20 minutes;
  • Do not use regular tape with contour tape. It will be removed along with the paint;
  • In the example shown above, coloring could be done as follows: 2-3 layers of red enamel, drying, one "outer" layer.

Finally, the last layer must be dried. Then varnish treatment is performed. Be aware that the width of the contour tape is always 6 mm. But this is not a problem, since polyethylene can be glued under the tape.

Express painting: four discs in 15 minutes, example in the video

Many car owners sooner or later face a situation where appearance rims is not the same as before. First, small chips appear, then corrosion, and now with the next seasonal "over-shoe" we notice that the disc began to look like a piece of second iron. This is not surprising, because the wheels have a hard time - temperature extremes, snow and ice, abrasive dirt and gravel, as well as holes and deicing agents. And there comes a time when a car on such wheels looks unattractive. In such a situation, you can contact the specialists at the service center, who will put the disks in order for a decent fee, or you can paint the disks on the car with your own hands.

  • primer;
  • enamel;
  • emery cloth of various abrasiveness;
  • "Grinder" with a bowl-shaped brush;
  • degreaser (anti-silicone);
  • rust converter;

What materials to choose and how to apply

First, a little about the materials. The enamel and the primer must certainly have the same base - either alkyd or acrylic. The first gives a good shine, but dries for a long time, the second shines worse, but dries up in 2 hours.

Choose the method of application yourself, but keep in mind that working with a spray gun requires equipment and experience. Therefore for independent work it is better to take the path of least resistance and purchase ready-made materials in aerosol cans. Moreover, now there are special acrylic enamels for discs that have proven themselves very well - the coating is very strong and durable. Accordingly, an acrylic primer is also required.

How is the process of painting car wheels

The maximum results can be achieved only with the tires removed, since the surface of the landing shelves (humps) may also require cleaning and painting. The development of corrosion on them becomes the cause of loss of tightness, and the tire constantly bleeds air. Therefore, you first need to go to tire fitting. We disassemble the wheels and thoroughly rinse the discs. It is better to do this at a car wash using chemicals. Further work should be carried out in a well-ventilated area or outdoors, free of dust.

The process of painting car disks follows the following scenario:

After completing all the steps described above, leave the discs to dry. The tires can be installed no earlier than 12 hours later.

How to paint alloy wheels

Discs made of aluminum alloys, although they do not rust like steel, are no less prone to chips and scratches. Painting of light-alloy wheels differs in that they can be initially painted in two colors, sometimes with enamel with a "metallic" effect, and this necessarily requires an additional layer of transparent varnish. In addition to this, they often have a complex surface.

Preparation already requires more accuracy and there is nothing to do with a grinder. Hand sanding only. In this way, you need to level out all defects, and then make the entire surface matte. Next, degrease and prime the bare spots. Only an ordinary primer will not work in this case, you need a special one for aluminum.

Alloy wheel painting is required for various reasons. Here are the most common ones.

  1. Chips, small and large scratches appear on the discs from time to time. There can be a huge number of reasons for this. It is important to paint the disc in time to prolong its life. Otherwise, very soon you will have to change the disc completely, which will cost many times more than the usual painting.
  2. Do-it-yourself painting of alloy wheels is often required after the end of the winter season. The problem is that there is a lot of salt on the roads in winter. It quickly reacts with the body paint, eroding it. Saline solution can severely corrode even the disc base.
  3. Often, painting wheels with your own hands may be needed when buying a car from hands. Sellers, as a rule, do not bother with this question. Therefore, the new owner of the car usually has to paint the wheels.

What equipment is required for painting discs

For maximum high-quality painting rims need to stock up on the following tools materials:

  • primer;
  • rubber gloves;
  • respirator;
  • rags;
  • any sandpaper;
  • good solvent.

You need to decide in advance with. DIY painting of stamped discs is usually done with one of three types of paint.

  1. Powder paint produced on the basis of completely dry polymer material... It is this type of coloring that is the most durable. Powder painting is more suitable for professional craftsmen. For home use, such a coating is not suitable, since it is rather difficult to apply. In addition, expensive equipment is required for the highest quality application.
  2. Liquid rubber Is relatively new and at the same time sufficient quality material for painting a car. And it is increasingly chosen by both home craftsmen and professionals.
  3. Acrylic paints are very popular among both professionals and home craftsmen. The paint for discs in spray cans has an optimal combination of price and quality. Acrylic paints have excellent adhesion properties, thanks to which they stay on the discs for a long time and protect them from negative effects. These paints are produced in liquid form. They are easy to work with using any spray gun.

When buying varnish, paint and solvent, you should give preference to materials from one manufacturer.

When choosing tools for painting, you need to proceed from what kind of end result you want to get. It is possible to paint discs using a single spray can. If you want to get a result that is indistinguishable from the work of a master at a service station, you will need additional equipment:

  1. For the convenience of painting the discs, a special suspension is required. It is most convenient to make it with your own hands from ordinary wire.
  2. You can speed up the drying process of the disc cover using a regular household and hair dryer. The best effect can be achieved using heat gun.
  3. You can use an electric drill to remove old coatings and rust spots. Alternatively, you can use sandblasting for this purpose.
  4. For perfect coverage, you need a compressor or spray gun. However, modern paints sprayed from aero balloons also make it possible to create good coverage... Therefore, without a sufficient amount of painting experience, you should not bother with expensive equipment.

How to paint discs correctly

Given below step-by-step instruction coating with acrylic paint. The whole process will take several hours. In this case, it is important to follow the sequence of actions, starting with preparation.

  1. Painting car drives starts with preparing the discs for coating. It is necessary to remove the tire from the rim. Alternatively, if you don't want to mess around with the tire, you can cover it with polyethylene, which is fixed with masking tape.
  2. The discs must be cleaned of bitumen and dirt, which is densely deposited on them. For this purpose, you can use any car shampoo or other household detergent.
  3. Then it is necessary to carefully inspect the discs and mark with a black marker the places of chips, bulges and scratches.
  4. Using an electric drill or sandblasting, you need to remove the old coating and traces of corrosion.
  5. The next step is to degrease the surface of the discs. To do this, wipe them with a rag soaked in solvent.
  6. To remove all existing irregularities on the surface of the disc, you need to putty, and after drying, wipe with sandpaper.

After that, the surface of the disc is degreased again and suspended on a wire for subsequent painting.

The paint application process also consists of several stages:

  1. Before painting, the surface of the disc must be carefully primed. The primer is applied in three layers. Each coat must dry completely before applying the next one. For this purpose, you can use a heat gun or a household hairdryer.
  2. Then paint can be applied. This is done with a spray can or spray gun. It should be sprayed at a distance of 40 to 50 m.In this case, maximum attention should be paid hard-to-reach places... Do-it-yourself painting of car disks is carried out in three layers, and each must dry completely.
  3. The final step will be to apply varnish to the painted surface. Two coats are enough, each of which must dry.
  4. Before starting operation, wait 3 - 4 days from the moment of painting. During this time, all layers will harden to the end.

It is important to research all the details of the design to create an attractive look. Wheels are what catches the eye when looking at successful and especially beautiful cars. Alloy wheel paint is a way to complement the overall decor of a car and express yourself. After painting, the appearance of both new and 20-year-old cars improves. Do not neglect an effective tool for creating your own style, but use it for your own purposes.

Alloy wheel painting is a way to complement the overall car decor and express yourself

Why paint alloy wheels?

Wheels on cars are always in contact with external environments, mainly negative influence... Paint for discs must take this feature into account and be resistant to all sorts of destructive influences, otherwise it will soon begin to peel off and burst, leading to exposure of the base. After the destruction of the paint layer and the appearance of corrosion, the car loses its appearance and becomes extremely ordinary, and sometimes causes pity.

The main reasons for the need to paint alloy wheels

For clarity, we will indicate 3 main reasons, but there are much more of them:

  • Salt compounds in winter time... To improve the condition of roads, public services sprinkle salt on the city roadbed... In a mixture with mud, snow and sand, a particularly aggressive environment is formed, into which the wheel and bottom fall, but it is the discs that are most susceptible to destruction. Many car enthusiasts may notice the first signs of destruction after 1-2 winter trips. Until now, no highly effective composition has been developed to protect against salt mixtures.
  • Country roads. When driving off-road or on soil, the ground damages the condition of the discs. There are many stones of various fractions in the ground, which destroy the protective surface and lead to corrosion or oxidation. Gradually, the car rim is completely covered with scratches and sometimes chips. As damage increases, paint peeling accelerates. Dirt gets into the small gaps of the paint, which greatly affects the appearance.
  • A sharp change in temperature. It is recommended to paint the wheels for fear of temperature changes, as winter comes unexpectedly in Russia. Sharp temperature changes lead to a proportional change in the size of the disc, as well as to a significant decrease in the strength of the paint.

Alloy wheels also often need painting

In connection with the above reasons, the need for painting car disks is increasing. A simple option is to use the services of painters, service stations or certified service centers. The disadvantage of this method is the significant cost of funds. An alternative way is to delve into the question of how to paint alloy wheels do it yourself, and do the whole procedure yourself.

What paint to choose

First of all, the painting of wheel rims is aimed at protecting the material from destruction. Most often, they are based on an aluminum-magnesium alloy, which undergoes oxidation from exposure external environment... The second challenge is to improve the design.

Do-it-yourself painting of alloy wheels should begin with the selection of the optimal paint composition, today there are 3 most popular areas:

Acrylic autoenamel Mobihel

  • Acrylic based. DIY painting of discs is mainly done with acrylic paints. The composition is supported by a huge variety of colors. It is sold in cans and cans, for the first type you will have to use a compressor and a spray gun. The aerosol dye can be applied immediately.
  • Powder form. Alloy wheels can be painted with each type, but it is preferable to use a powder type for wheels. The main disadvantage of this type is the complexity of application in unprepared conditions. It is very difficult to ensure sufficient quality of powder coating in the garage due to the lack of a drying chamber, because it needs a special temperature to solidify.
  • ... Interesting autodisk composition, it is very convenient to use and durable, but it is not cheap.

Today, aerosol is often used, it is used to restore the paintwork of a car: body, disks, individual parts and paint interior plastic. In order for the tires to receive sufficient protection, you will need to treat 4 wheels with 3-4 spray cans.

Consumables and tools

It is possible to reduce the time of work with autoenamel if you prepare the tools and materials in advance:

  • solvent - will be necessary to degrease the surface;
  • grinding machine;
  • rags and any liquid detergent;
  • fine-grained material (200–600) for grouting;
  • putty, paint and varnish;
  • any paper and masking tape;
  • personal protective equipment - special clothing and a respirator.

Surface degreaser Brief Recommendations

Here are some tips on how to paint the wheels in the best way:

  • adjust the lighting of the wheel part and the workplace. Its lighting may be insufficient and 1 carrier is not a suitable light source;
  • experts say that an important condition for high-quality preparation is a sandblasting device. Without it, it will be difficult to create a perfectly flat, clean surface. Such editing is only appropriate if it is possible to use the machine;
  • if it is decided to paint the discs using a composition from cans, you need to take care of buying a compressor and a spray gun;
  • instructions for almost all paints require maximum cleanliness of the room and the absence of dust. Optimal temperature regime - 15–20 ° C.

The main stages of painting alloy wheels of a car with your own hands: technologies and their implementation

Dyeing technology implies the need to remove the tire, this is the most effective method paint a high-quality cast wheel in any color. Some amateurs do not want to waste time dismantling and immediately paint the details. In the installed state, it is impossible to paint over the surface of the material well. If the smallest disc area is not painted over, destruction will begin from that place. When deciding to reduce the time, you need to separate the steel or aluminum rim from the tire with paper and tape.

Preparing alloy wheels for painting

Preparatory stage

The painting technique at home requires basic preparation measures:

  • remove any dirt from the wheel to the maximum: paint, dirt, bitumen, any fasteners, etc. There are a lot of liquid cleaning agents on the auto chemistry shelves, any will do;
  • if the structure has chips and deep damage, they should be treated with a putty. On top of the composition, you should go two or three times with sandpaper. To begin with, use a larger fraction (200-300), then a smaller one - 400 and at the end - 600;
  • the disc will have to be thoroughly washed again with clean water to remove all the debris left after sanding;
  • degrease the base with a solvent.

In the process of mashing the putty, it is necessary to periodically wet the surface when the hand feels significant heating. The manual procedure will take a lot of time, the work will be painfully monotonous and uninteresting. To speed up the work, it is better to use a grinder.

Painting stage

According to the technique and technology of staining, an algorithm of actions has been developed:

Coating alloy wheels with primer

  • Covering with primer. When using a primer in the form of an aerosol, be sure to shake up the composition. To spray the product, you need to hold the can at a distance of 20-25 cm. Good lighting is important here to prevent leakage and leakage of liquid. Leave a layer to dry, it will take 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Stripping. Now you need to form a plane with sandpaper with a grain of 200-300. To improve the condition of the surface, a cross movement is used, then scuffs and scratches do not appear.
  • Purge. To remove dust after wiping, blow the plane with compressed air. Now the coating is primed and sanded again.
  • Wipe. It is recommended to wipe the discs using napkins before staining. It is important not to use standard rags, otherwise villi will appear, impairing the final result.
  • Initial layer. Through a spray gun or from an ordinary spray can, you need to process the part from a distance of 20 to 25 cm. To dry, you need to leave the disc for 20-30 minutes.
  • Second layer. The procedure corresponds to the previous stage, only now it is worth especially carefully monitoring the uniformity of the paint coating. All stripes must overlap. The disc is dried for 20-30 minutes.
  • Finishing layer. When the paint has acquired its final strength, it must be treated with a varnish. It is recommended to varnish 2 times, but 1 layer is enough. The varnish dries longer than the paint, about 18-24 hours.

If you want to improve the appearance, you can walk on top with a polish. The color with a matte effect looks attractive. Discs that glow at night acquire an extraordinary design. The luminous composition is relatively expensive.

For most motorists who are accustomed to keeping their car in order, a well-groomed interior and the appearance of the car will always be one of the criteria by which a car owner is judged. And the fact that the car looks impeccable, there are usually no trifles, in such a car all parts must be in perfect condition, including the rims.

But it is far from always possible to achieve the ideal state of the disks, because it is on them that most of the problems of city roads fall - they constantly scratch, experience an aggressive reaction chemicalsused by public utilities to process the roads, require constant maintenance and, as a result, despite all the efforts of the next painting. One of the methods of wheel rim care today is painting with modern technologies protection of metal, providing not only a high-quality coating, but also making it possible to emphasize the individuality of the car.

Materials for painting wheels

The end result of painting car disks with your own hands largely depends on how the whole process of work was organized correctly and what tools and materials were used for this. One of the components of success here is correct preparation disks for priming and subsequent layers of paint and varnish. At this stage of work, you will usually need the most simple tools and consumables:

  • Metal brush;
  • Sandpaper with varying degrees of grain;
  • Rags;
  • Respiratory protection, goggles, gloves;
  • Masking tape, plastic wrap, paper;
  • Solvent;
  • Putty;
  • A set of spatulas.

For a higher and more thorough preparation of the surface of the rims, you can use a power tool with metal brushes-nozzles or sandblasting equipment to remove the old coating, which makes it possible to qualitatively clean the rims to metal.

In the process of priming and painting you will need:

  • Compressor and spray gun;
  • Room with exhaust ventilation for painting;
  • Drying chamber;
  • Painting stand;
  • Industrial hair dryer for drying individual areas.

When working on powder coating, in addition, it is necessary to take care of the construction of a drying chamber with the ability to provide an air temperature of 250-300 degrees for 4-6 hours for the polymerization of the powder coating.

Modern car care products, including wheel disks, with constant use, can maintain the color and integrity of the paint coating of the wheel, but after a certain time, it is still better to repaint the wheels completely, without spending additional costs on partial renovation cover.

For self-painting, conventional car paints and enamels and high-tech coatings are mainly used. Most often used for painting discs:

  • Acrylic paints;
  • Nitroenamels;
  • Liquid rubber.

Each type of coating is successfully used for self-painting of rims. However, when choosing the type of paintwork, it is necessary to take into account the properties of paints and the features of the application technology.

Acrylic car enamels most common today and commonly used for painting body parts and rims. They are produced both in the form of ready-to-use compositions in aerosol cans, and in the form of separate color forms of paints that require further mixing to obtain the desired color. When dry, the paints form a strong film that is resistant to external influences. Painting with acrylic paints today is the most common and easy type of work for independent development. Acrylic based paints are suitable for all types of discs.

Once popular nitro enamels today they are used mainly in the form of aerosol cans. The popularity of this type of car paint lies in the ease and speed of work. Paints are sold ready-made, easily applied to the surface, dry quickly in normal conditions... This paint is usually applied for express paint, and is suitable for all kinds of rims. However, such paint holds worse than others.

Liquid rubber relatively the new kind protective coating. The main form of release is ready-to-use paint in aerosol cans. It is easily applied to the surface, provides reliable adhesion, and excellent resistance to external influences. The disadvantage of the paint is that it is difficult to make the selection of the required color, since it is sold in cylinders in a finished composition. Suitable for painting all types of discs.

- a new high-tech type of coating that provides reliable protection metal and at the same time excellent appearance. Powder paint makes it possible to create any color composition, including using several color transitions. The disadvantage of this staining technology is the need to use special equipment and great care during work. In addition, it is not recommended to use powder technology for application on light-alloy alloy wheels, especially of unknown manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom.

Alloy wheels made of light metal alloys, as well as other types of car rims, require painting. During operation, the metal of the structure is constantly exposed to atmospheric precipitation, harmful emissions and aggressive chemical substances for processing road surface... In addition, the properties of the metal are affected by scratches, chips and cracks. Painting of such discs avoids metal destruction due to corrosion and significantly prolongs their service life.

Alloy wheels

For painting alloy wheels it is recommended to use acrylic enamels and liquid rubber , powder coating applicable only for low-temperature compounds, which are heated for polymerization at a temperature of 200-250 degrees.

The preparation process for painting is carried out in the following sequence:

The painting process is conventionally divided into the stages of preparation, application of primer, painting with a pigment composition and final varnishing. All these operations must be done in a dust-free room with well-functioning exhaust ventilation and good lighting.

Before starting work, the discs are placed on a paint stand or hung on a wire so as to obtain maximum access to all painted surfaces.

Preparation for priming and the priming process itself is carried out as follows:

Coloring is carried out in 1-2 layers, depending on the desired result, while:

  • Staining is done in 2-3 passes from a distance of 40-50 cm from the disc, from top to bottom;
  • When painting, the spray gun or cylinder must be held so as to repeat the relief of the disc, and to achieve maximum coverage with a layer of the surface.

Applying paint to a car rim

Attention!

When painting discs the inner surface is painted first , and after that the front side, this is due to the fact that paint drips from the inside in any case show through through the holes and windows of the disc to the front side. Before painting the front side, it is recommended to carefully remove the stains with a clean cloth soaked in solvent and then continue the painting process.

After the main layer of paint has dried, 2 protective layers of varnish are applied over it. The varnish application technology is similar to the painting technology with a mandatory break for drying each layer.

Car drive before and after painting

Drying is recommended to be carried out in a drying chamber for at least 2 days, until the final drying of the last layer of varnish. All this time, the disc must be on the stand; it is not recommended to remove it and put it on. After the varnish has dried, it is recommended to put the tire on the wheel no earlier than after 24 hours.

Stamped discs are the most popular as the main discs for installing winter tires, which is why they bear the entire burden of operating a car in winter conditions. Before starting work, it is recommended to remove the tires, level out the deformed areas, center and roll to the desired shape on the machine.

Stamped discs are mainly made from cold-rolled or hot-rolled steel by hot forging, this technology requires the mandatory application of a protective coating. For stamped discs, any painting technology is acceptable, since the metal of the structure will not deform from heating to a temperature of 250-300 degrees during powder painting.

Stamped discs

A special feature of painting stamped discs is the preparation process, during which, after restoring the shape of the disc, it is necessary:

In preparation for painting:

Painting with acrylic paint and liquid rubber is carried out using a similar technology - painting with a spray gun and from a cylinder, first the inner side, and then the front. The use of the powder method requires additional equipment - a spray gun for applying powder paint, an apparatus for electrostatic spraying, a drying chamber with the ability to maintain temperatures from 180 to 300 degrees, depending on the composition of the powder paint.

Acrylic paint application or liquid rubber is carried out in the following order:

  1. At the stand, the results of the primer are examined, flaws are removed and the entire surface is degreased again;
  2. From a distance of 50-60 cm, 2-3 passes of a spray gun or a spray bottle spray paint all areas - first the side surface, the inner surface and then the front surface of the disk;
  3. The stand is placed in a drying chamber for 24-36 hours until completely dry.

Painting a stamped disc

Varnishing is carried out in 2 layers, provided the surface is completely dry.

Forged discs, unlike stamped ones, go through a more complex manufacturing process, during which the required wheel shape is formed by forging, while the metal structure changes, it becomes more durable and elastic. Such products allow any method of painting, including high-temperature processing during powder painting.

Forged wheels

When painting forged wheels, it is necessary to carry out the following operations during preparation and painting:

When painting discs without removing the tires, the preparation process has its own characteristics:

  • The disc is washed with the tire;
  • The nipple and tire near the disc are sealed with masking tape before starting work;
  • Mechanical cleaning of the surface, putty and sanding are done with the utmost care so as not to damage the tire;
  • Installation on a painting stand should also take into account the weight of the tire;
  • In the drying chamber, the maximum temperature should be no higher than 40 degrees.

Pasting wheel tires before painting discs

In extreme conditions, when not only the rubber is not removed, but the wheels remain on the car, it is recommended that all operations be done in a place protected from wind in dry weather with normal air humidity and a temperature of at least 20 degrees. It is recommended to cover the body of the machine with plastic wrap and fix it with tape. The rubber of the tire can be covered with playing cards by inserting them with one edge between the rubber and the rim of the disc along the entire circumference. In this case, coloring will not be too high-quality, but the effect of freshness will last for 3-4 weeks.
