If you need a universal car, that is, so that you can go off-road without problems when traveling to the country, fishing, hunting, etc., then in this case the best option By affordable price will be UAZ Patriot, UAZ Hunter or Chevrolet Niva. With a small budget, you can get a real workhorse, unpretentious and inexpensive to maintain. Having 600-700 thousand rubles on hand, many are wondering which of these three cars is better to choose, which one is more practical, comfortable and reliable. We will compare.

Car Features

UAZ Hunter, due to its specificity, should be considered separately. But UAZ Patriot vs Chevrolet Niva really compete with each other. Both the one and the other car are the embodiment of two well-known domestic automobile plants, only the General Motors auto concern had a hand in Niva. Due to their endurance and unpretentiousness, both SUVs have become popular with motorists.

UAZ Patriot and Chevrolet Niva

Both have a standard body with five doors. However, UAZ Patriot weighs more than two tons. And the fundamental difference between them is that the UAZ traditionally uses a frame. Niva is much more modest in size, and as a basis - the body. Meanwhile, these are the same cars in width, both have 1.7 m, otherwise dimensions differ:

  • the length of the UAZ Patriot is 4100 mm, and that of the Niva is 3700 mm;
  • height 2 meters UAZ and 1670 mm at the Chevrolet Niva.

Cars can carry up to 5 passengers at the same time, including the driver. But structurally, up to 9 people are allowed to sit in the UAZ Patriot: due to the huge size of the trunk, where additional seats can be placed.

Chevrolet Niva interior and exterior

The design, especially if you compare it with the UAZ Hunter, looks more modern, but still an amateur. Angular shapes are not used, which makes the whole look neater. perfect appearance you can’t name it, but still it’s not a UAZ Hunter with an appearance from the distant 70s.

Unlike the previous Niva 2121, the interior has received a lot of changes. At least it looks much more modern. In general, designers used elements from different models VAZ, for example, a dashboard from a VAZ 2114, etc. The cabin has standard seats, plastic is not very expensive, but not of the lowest quality either. Due to the compact size, people with tall stature will not be too comfortable.

The SUV has most of the body parts made of galvanized steel, which means that it is not afraid of corrosion. Another feature of the Chevrolet Niva is in its stove. The cabin is really warm, including the rear passengers. Visibility does not suffer, large rear-view mirrors on the sides provide good review behind.

Driving performance

The noise isolation of the Chevrolet Niva is not the most comfortable, so the engine can be heard both outside and inside. Modern Euro-4 standards do not allow the motor to show already mediocre dynamics, which is not surprising, given only 80 hp. With. The off-road car behaves well, easily swallowing all the potholes and pits, thereby ensuring a smooth ride.

You should not expect high cross-country performance from the Chevrolet Niva, but this is quite enough for dirt roads outside the city.

Interior and exterior of UAZ Patriot

The largest of all presented SUVs, and it can be seen immediately. Solid size and appearance create the image of a real jeep. But, unfortunately, the pleasant appearance of the UAZ Patriot is spoiled by the poor quality of assembly and production in general, for example, sloppy welding, the flaws of which are visible to the naked eye.

The main advantage of the UAZ Patriot cabin is its spaciousness, which allows you to easily accommodate up to 9 passengers. The design is standard, the plastic is gray and not of the best quality, the seats are comfortable. In general, there is nothing remarkable to see here. The high seating height provides excellent visibility. The heater heats up perfectly, but the air ducts leave much to be desired, as a result, the windows often fog up.

Driving performance

Comparison of UAZ Patriot and Chevrolet Niva immediately shows the difference, a more powerful engine affects. The ride is not very comfortable: rather stiff suspension affects. Noise isolation is of poor quality, which is why it is noisy and uncomfortable in the cabin on the move. As for off-road, here the UAZ Patriot completely outperforms the Niva, easily overcoming any (within reason) obstacles.

Specific features of the UAZ Hunter

It has become a classic mid-size SUV.

The car can carry up to 700 kg of cargo. The cabin easily accommodates 5 people, but because of the same trunk, two more passengers can fit behind the back seat. To increase the luggage compartment, the rear seats can be completely dismantled.

Hunter interior

UAZ 469 and UAZ 3151 Hunter differ from its predecessor flooring from carpet. There is no question of comfort as such - neither for the driver, nor for passengers. Instead of bare metal, cheap black plastic appeared. The dashboard is extremely inconvenient (it is difficult to read the readings, especially the speedometer).

The car is designed for Russian winter conditions. There is no other way to explain the lack of an air temperature controller, you can only adjust the strength and direction of flow from the heater fan. Air ducts for the rear passengers are not provided, which means that when transporting people, the windows are guaranteed to fog up.

Exterior Hunter

As for the appearance, here the changes are more noticeable. Depending on the configuration, metal or plastic bumper with fog lamps, steel protection constituent parts front suspension, spare wheel in a case, placed on back door. Despite the high ground clearance, there are no steps, which is strange, because the car is also positioned as an urban option.

In general, the car is designed for off-road. It has minimal amenities, but the price is low. For so many years, the car has not changed much, except that a light facelift was carried out and the interior was made a little more comfortable. The engine and all other units are left unchanged.

But Hunter has undeniable advantages:

  • solid classic appearance;
  • high landing and frame design;
  • diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines (power should not be expected);
  • opportunities for tuning and other improvements.

A plus can be called a large thickness of the metal of the body and the reliability of the car as a whole. For hunters and fishermen, as well as in countryside UAZ Hunter has become one of the most popular off-road vehicles.

Technical characteristics of SUVs

Each of the presented cars has its own “chips”, thanks to which they differ from each other.

Engine features

For an SUV, the engine is an important component, because thanks to this unit, in many ways, the car can get out of any mud and overcome obstacles. UAZ Patriot has the largest 2.7-liter engine with a capacity of 127 hp. With. There is also a diesel version with a working volume of 2.2 liters and a power of 113 hp. With.

But the Niva Chevrolet is equipped exclusively with a gasoline power unit with a capacity of 80 liters. With. and a volume of 1.7 liters. It follows that the Patriot is much more powerful in this regard. This engine is installed for a reason, for such a large and heavy SUV it is a must. Moreover, for off-road and this volume is not always enough. Chevrolet Niva cannot boast of such a powerful internal combustion engine, but this is enough for minor off-road, but when driving on the highway, the dynamics leave much to be desired. Max speed two SUVs does not exceed 150 km / h with approximately equal acceleration time from zero to hundreds.

The UAZ Hunter line of power plants uses 4 engines:

  • ZMZ-409.10, 16-valve power unit with a volume of 2.7 liters and a power of 140 liters. With.
  • UMZ-409.10, 2.9 liter engine and 100 horsepower, carburetor.
  • ZMZ-5143, diesel engine with a volume of 2.24 liters, a capacity of 98 liters. With.
  • 4ST90-Andoria, 84 hp turbodiesel from Poland. With. with a working volume of 2.4 liters.

All motors are obsolete and meet Euro-2 requirements. In general, the spread is small and each of the engines has both advantages and disadvantages.

Transmission UAZ Patriot and Chevrolet Niva

Both the one and the other car are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, supplemented by a transfer case. There are separate levers to control the gearbox and transfer case. In the new Patriot models, a special adjusting washer is installed to control the transfer case.

The difference in the transmission of SUVs lies, first of all, in the manufacturer. If Niva has a checkpoint Russian production, then the Patriot checkpoint is from the Daimos company from Korea. Another significant difference is in the all-wheel drive scheme. Niva has all-wheel drive all the time, UAZ Patriot has rear-wheel drive with the ability to connect the front axle. All other systems are virtually identical. The brakes are disc in front and drums in the back.

The UAZ Hunter is equipped exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox with a transfer case. Permanent rear drive with the ability to connect the front axle. A spring suspension is installed at the front, spring type at the rear.

How much gasoline do they use

When choosing an SUV, this indicator is very important. To use a car with high fuel consumption, given the ever-increasing prices, to put it mildly, is irrational. In mixed mode, Chevrolet Niva consumes about 12 liters of gasoline, UAZ consumes about 15 liters per 100 km. The Patriot has two fuel tanks, which indirectly confirms the SUV's considerable appetites. On UAZ Hunter - at the level of 14-16 liters in mixed mode per 100 km, neither consumption nor interior comfort is designed for long distances.

If fuel consumption is of fundamental importance, you should stop at the Chevrolet Niva.

To some, this choice may seem somewhat strange, because, nevertheless, the format of the cars is not exactly the same, and the price of the UAZ Patriot (UAZ Patriot) is higher than for the Niva. But it is precisely this question of choice that confronts many who want to purchase a budget SUV up to 600 (or even 500) thousand rubles. The writing of this post was prompted by the article “A Severe Case” in the January issue of the magazine “Behind the Wheel”. This article compares three cars: UAZ Patriot Sport (suddenly discontinued), Chevrolet Niva (Chevrolet-Niva) and Great Wall Hover H3 (Great Wall Hover). The latter, of course, is more likely to simply show a possible contrast compared to domestic cars. Nevertheless, the price of the Hover is an order of magnitude higher than the UAZ with the Niva, so it can hardly be called a full-fledged competitor.

In my opinion, the comparison of these two cars is not entirely correct, their format is somewhat different. UAZ Patriot is a heavy frame SUV weighing more than two tons, with a huge trunk (four medium-sized men fit on the side benches). Chevrolet Niva is a crossover, but with very decent capabilities, sufficient to conquer very serious off-road conditions, even in the stock configuration. The trunk, in comparison with the Patriot, is very small in it and can accommodate a maximum of one man bent in three deaths. Yes, and it is not intended for transporting men 🙂 Although some carry quite impressive dogs in it without any problems.

Chevrolet Niva, restyled version of 2010

Outside

Well what can I say, like any other car - for an amateur, whoever likes what. Personally, I like the design of the Chevrolet Niva very nice. The car looks neat, there is no excessive angularity, the forms are quite modern. The main thing is not to spoil the car with an unnecessary body kit: all sorts of kenguryatniks, steps and other nonsense (this is my opinion). Good optics, I really liked the head light. The workmanship of the body elements is very decent, I didn’t reveal any very noticeable stocks, not ideal of course, but still. By the way, most of the Chevrolet Niva body parts are galvanized, so the car is very resistant to corrosion.

Inside

It cannot be said that the interior of the Chevrolet Niva is completely ascetic, yet this is no longer the old Niva 21213 (4). Everything here is very simple, no frills, but does not cause rejection. Quite comfortable in my opinion. A nice new steering wheel, very high-quality plastic, quite ordinary seats, in general, everything is pretty good. I am of average height, so I was very comfortable behind the wheel. Judging by the reviews, tall people can have problems with the placement of their legs, even with the seat as far back as possible. The rear passengers are quite comfortable, there is enough legroom, the ceiling is high. The Chevrolet Niva is a very warm car, the stove works with a bang, and the good heat and sound insulation of the cabin does not allow it to cool down quickly. Visibility at height (literally and figuratively). Large mugs of mirrors allow you to perfectly control what is happening around.

On the run

Start the car, let's go! Outside, a rather noisy operation of the engine is immediately noticeable, nothing inside, but it can be quieter (if desired, it can be treated with additional sound insulation). First, second, third - the dynamics are not very good, but what did you want from an 80 horsepower engine, which is now also strangled under Euro-4? And this car is not for racing. The howl of the dispenser is heard, although not much, it does not interfere with life, you can calmly carry on a conversation without straining. We leave on a broken road with potholes, pits, tram rails. I did not expect such a smooth ride from this car, all the bumps Niva goes through only smoothly swaying. It made me very happy.
On impassable roads, you should not expect miracles from Niva, yet this car is not for conquering fords on the hood or tearing off cardans in swamps. At least without special training. But the off-road qualities of the Chevrolet Niva are at their best and much better than many can imagine. And if you still have good tires and a “gasket” between the steering wheel and the pedals, then it will go wherever any normal person may need.

UAZ Patriot, equipment Limited 2010

Outside

Next to the Chevrolet Niva, the UAZ Patriot looks much more impressive. From afar, it can be confused with a serious foreign SUV, and at dusk it is not at all clear what kind of jeep this is. General form UAZ Patriot is very pleasant, but in my opinion the feed is too angular, but again, this is not for everybody. But if you look in detail, then everything is far from being so good. I looked at several copies and everywhere is about the same. The poor workmanship is immediately evident. Welding in some places was done very sloppily, dots are generally visible on the roof at the welding points, I didn’t like it very much ...

Inside

Space and more. How many of you? Four, five, seven, NINE? Yes, no question, climb, we'll all fit. Inside the car, 9 adults are quite accommodated, four of them are on the side benches in the trunk, where the ride is quite tolerable, if not very long. The seats are comfortable, the gearshift lever is long and frequent gear shifting is not much fun, it reminded me of riding a Sable. The plastic in the cabin is soft, gray, not outstanding, in general, I liked the interior design less than in ShNiva and it seemed not so cozy. Of course, the review is excellent, in a traffic jam you can see everything ten cars ahead, which is not surprising at such a landing height. The interior is warm, the stove works well, but the windows constantly strive to fog up, with airflow not very good.

On the run

A more powerful engine is immediately felt, a car with a driver and 8 (!) passengers takes off rather quickly, and in general the ride is very dynamic. The suspension is stiff, driving through the tram rails while sitting on the benches in the trunk is still a pleasure, especially considering that there is not much to grab onto there 🙂 The cabin is noisy, the engine is clearly audible, and the noise of the wind cut by the Patriot, the roof rails whistle. You need to get used to the steering wheel of the Patriot, after the Chevrolet Niva it seems empty (perhaps a feature of a particular instance) and it is quite difficult to believe that it is so easy to drive a heavy 2-ton machine. Therefore, at the very beginning you start to twist it a little, but then you get used to it. As for off-road, there is nothing to say here, UAZ Patriot is out of competition. With a full cabin of passengers, he walks along a snowy track without much strain, overcoming snow-covered ravines and hillocks. From the outside, his off-road behavior inspires sincere respect. Yes, there is more than enough off-road potential here ...

To whom what?

So what do you choose? In my opinion, the UAZ Patriot has a very narrow audience of buyers, but, unfortunately, not everyone understands this and continues to get themselves an extra headache. So, it turns out the Patriot is a bad car? No, but this is a car for those who really need it. Is your work closely related to off-road? Do you live in a village, to which there are several kilometers of a difficult road, and the rest is dead asphalt? Are you a hunter or fisherman and regularly go hunting with a few men and a full set of equipment? You cannot live without off-road, do you participate in competitions, trophy raids, etc.? You are ready to consume 17-18 liters. in the city and at least 11-12 on the highway? No? Then UAZ Patriot is not your car!

Chevrolet Niva is more versatile in every way. Fuel consumption for permanent all-wheel drive is not so great - 11-13 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and about 9 on the highway (according to the passport, 8.8 is stated, but some lowered it even lower). Small dimensions make the car convenient for everyday use in urban areas, and decent cross-country ability will allow you to make quite serious off-road trips. Car maintenance is also somewhat cheaper than UAZ. The trunk is small, but here you need to decide and decide whether you really need such a huge trunk and whether you will carry it empty most of the time ... The engine for the car is rather weak, off-road and for a quiet ride it is enough, but you need to approach overtaking with caution .

Well, I shared a little my thoughts about the UAZ Patriot and Chevrolet Niva. In no case am I saying that this car is bad and the other is good, but when choosing, you must clearly understand whether you need it or not. Or maybe you don't need an SUV at all? Estimate how much time you will spend off the road? ..

If there is a need to purchase a car that can easily cope with off-road on country roads, then it's time to pay attention to SUVs. This is exactly the technique that will allow you to comfortably travel hunting or fishing, you can safely ride it on nature or in the country, without looking back at the season. But it immediately becomes clear that the list available options will be regulated by cost, because the price of SUVs is quite high.

practical and popular

One of the best deals in the budget series of cars in this class can be or. These models are always available on the domestic market and significantly outperform imported analogues in terms of cost. Maybe they are inferior in design and technical characteristics to branded models, but this does not mean at all that these cars are not able to cope with the task and provide a comfortable country holiday.

Differences in equipment

The complete set of the UAZ Patriot car is presented in three versions: Classic - basic equipment, Comfort - intermediate version, Limited - top version. The estimated minimum cost of the new UAZ Patriot is 731 thousand rubles. For such an amount, you can buy a car exclusively in the basic (starter) configuration, which will include the minimum number of possible options. In this case, manufacturers are ready to provide the following set:

  • unpainted bumpers;
  • stamped wheels size R16;
  • seat headrests;
  • mats, both for the cabin and for the trunk;
  • power steering;
  • central locking.

The following equipment with the designation Comfort is equipped with alloy wheels, an audio system reproduced by 2 speakers, an alarm system, an electric drive for the front lifts, a heated rear window, as well as rear-view mirrors and fog lamps located in the front bumper. The Limited package is distinguished by the presence of air conditioning, heated front seats and a spoiler.

The complete set of the Chevrolet Niva car is also presented in three versions - L, LC and top-end GLS. Approximate today's minimum cost of a new Chevrolet Niva is 628 thousand rubles. For this money, the buyer will be offered a car with a basic configuration:

  • security system with immobilizer;
  • steering wheel height adjustment;
  • electric front window lift;
  • power steering;
  • fabric salon;
  • automatic change of positions of rear-view mirrors and heating;
  • full-size spare;
  • heated legs in the back seat;
  • headlights corrector.

The package with the designation LC additionally includes air conditioning. In the top-end GLS configuration, a combined type of interior trim is additionally used. It also includes additional lighting for passenger seats, aluminum lining inside the cabin, an audio system that includes two speakers plus a remote antenna. In addition, this package includes heated front seats, roof rails, alloy wheels, isothermal glass, and an aluminum bracket for a spare wheel.

Specification Differences

Both presented cars cannot be called racing, moreover, according to the passport data, the UAZ Patriot is superior in power to the Chevrolet Niva, however, in the end they are designed to perform similar tasks, although they have a number of differences.

UAZ Patriot has two engine options in its configuration, in the first case it runs on gasoline, in the second - on diesel fuel. The petrol engine has a volume of 2.7 liters with a power of 128 horsepower, and the diesel unit has a volume of 2.2 liters with a power of 112 horsepower. Chevrolet Niva has in its arsenal only a gasoline version of an engine capable of delivering 80 horsepower. Also, its motor does not have high dynamic performance. But it is worth noting that the apparatus of the Ulyanovsk plant is much heavier than its opponent and cannot use a lower power engine.

The maximum speed that both presented machines are capable of is in equal limits. The speed limit for the Niva is 137 km per hour. UAZ Patriot with a diesel unit has a top speed of 120 km per hour, and if it is equipped with a gasoline engine, then its speed will increase to 130 km per hour. However, the Patriot wins significantly in terms of power and has more flexible dynamic characteristics.

In terms of transmission characteristics, both cars do not have significant differences. In this indicator, they occupy equal positions. Both models are also equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. But differences are observed in the drive device. If Chevrolet is distinguished by its front-wheel drive, while being able to connect rear axle, then the Patriot has rear-wheel drive and the ability to use the front axle. In the event that manufacturers decide to release a version with all-wheel drive, then UAZ will win, improving its road performance.

Differences in the exterior

In their appearance, both presented cars are not small in size and differ in capacity. But if you put them side by side, it will immediately become clear that the UAZ is larger than its opponent and is distinguished by superior dimensions. The design of the Niva is distinguished by smoothed shapes and better streamlining, while the Patriot, on the contrary, looks angular, but no less stylish and more brutal. Although what form of car to give preference to is an individual matter for everyone, relating only to his taste.

The body of the Niva and UAZ has a classic design, which means that five door structure. In terms of the number of passengers carried in the basic version, there are also no differences, both SUVs have 5 seats. However, the overall interior of the Patriot can be modified at the expense of no less than the overall trunk, after installing additional seats, it already accommodates 9 passengers. In turn, the Chevrolet Niva wins in compactness, which can be very useful on the road.

Differences in the interior

The high clearance of the UAZ Patriot causes difficulties when landing. To get to the threshold, you need to overcome the height of half a meter. Therefore, you first have to climb on the bandwagon, and only after that you can enter the salon. But, once inside the cabin, you can get a pleasant feeling, contemplating the surrounding space from a decent height.

The Patriot's cabin is distinguished by its spaciousness, it can comfortably accommodate the driver and all passengers, regardless of build. The Japanese company Daewon is engaged in the manufacture of complete seats. They may well provide a comfortable fit for a comfortable ride. The trunk of the car deserves special attention. Its dimensions allow you to keep at hand a large number of useful equipment and devices.

The lower location of the Chevrolet Niva thresholds provides a comfortable fit into the car. However, the space in the cabin is much less. Here, passengers in the back seat have to rest their knees on the front seats. But, if we evaluate as a whole, then all the elements of the interior are made quite neatly, the seats have a comfortable fit.

Differences in patency

The Patriot's suspension is a bit stiff. For this reason, small pits and potholes in the cabin are felt. However, the passage along the snowy track is given to him without much stress, even if all the passengers are on board. Also, the car easily overcomes snow-covered hills or ravines. This device is distinguished by high cross-country qualities, in which it is clearly ahead of Niva. Excellent cross-country ability is ensured by high ground clearance, which is 210 mm, and for models produced by the Volga plant, this figure is 220 mm.

Chevrolet Niva copes well with bumps on the roads, including tram rails. The car overcomes minor damage to the coating smoothly enough, so that it is almost not felt in the cabin. However, super passability is not to be expected from this model. Still, it is not intended for mountain road conditions or off-road washed out by floods. However, on country roads the car feels quite confident. With it, you can confidently go on a picnic or fishing, especially if you take care of high-quality rubber.

Advantages and disadvantages

Both presented cars have enough differences, both in appearance and in driving characteristics. The only thing that unites them is confident behavior on country roads with poor pavement. However, each car has its own strengths and weaknesses.

UAZ Patriot

Advantages:

  • high maintainability and perfect ease of maintenance that does not require specific equipment;
  • very high permeability;
  • large interior space and spacious trunk;
  • has many additional options;
  • relatively low cost.

Flaws:

  • rear-wheel drive, complicating the movement on the tracks in winter period;
  • excessive stiffness of the suspension.

Chevrolet Niva

Advantages:

  • the main advantage of the Niva is its affordable cost, compared to other cars of this class;
  • ease of maintenance and affordable spare parts;
  • has a reliable suspension;
  • bright headlights;
  • compact dimensions;
  • relatively roomy trunk.

Flaws:

  • lack of an ABS system in the basic configuration;
  • poor engine dynamics;
  • not high-quality factory painting of the body and bottom.

conclusions

To decide which of the proposed cars to give preference, you must first of all have an idea about its future purpose. UAZ Patriot will suit the owner who picks up a car for systematic trips out of town, and with a company or with a large family. This car has an enviable cross-country ability and feels great on country roads.

If the car is to be operated within the city limits, taking into account regular trips to the country or fishing, then you should give preference to the more compact Niva, which has an advantage on the highway, especially in winter. In addition, the difference in cost is noticeable, because the Chevrolet Niva can be purchased for 100 thousand rubles cheaper. Therefore, carefully considering all the strong and weak spots presented cars, it is worth coordinating the decision with the family budget.

Video test drive

At the moment, two models are the most popular among the Russian car industry - the UAZ Patriot and the Chevrolet Niva. Compared to their predecessors, they are favorably distinguished by increased cross-country characteristics and a high level of comfort. But before making a choice, it is worth considering in more detail all the advantages and disadvantages of each car.

At first glance, these cars are very different from each other. But if you compare their technical characteristics in more detail, it turns out that they are very similar. The interior of these cars is also practically the same. Therefore, when it is not clear what to choose a Chevrolet Niva or UAZ Patriot, then you should consider and compare each of the car components in more detail.

Chevrolet Niva and UAZ Patriot are large enough and capacious enough to be fully used not only as a means of transportation, but also as a working tool for remote settlements. But these models will inevitably be different, since cars are produced at different factories and each company tries to make its product the most competitive.
As a result, the UAZ Patriot received a large body, which, if necessary, can accommodate up to 7 people, with the installation of an additional row of seats. The basic configuration allows you to accommodate no more than 5 people. Externally, the car turned out to be large and brutal, the appearance resembles some foreign analogues.

The brainchild of the GM and VAZ concerns has a slightly smaller body, and no more than 5 people fit there. At the same time, it is worth noting that the car body is narrow, and during long trips, it is better to leave 2 people in the back seat for a comfortable fit, which will reduce the total capacity to 5. The exterior of the car cannot be called impressive. The car belongs more to the class of crossovers. It is visually lower than the Patriot and most other SUVs. Its advantage is only a large ground clearance. But the low body has its advantages. This improves the aerodynamics of the body and allows you to pick up speed faster.

The length of the Chevrolet Niva is 4.05 meters. UAZ is 70 centimeters longer. The width of both cars is about 2 meters. But the height is different. Patriot 2 meters against Chevrolet from 1.68 meters. But the loss in height does not make the off-road qualities of the Niva worse. Moreover, large dimensions may be beyond the control of novice motorists. Chevrolet in this regard will be the most convenient option, since the size of the car is more compact and will make you feel much more confident in dense city traffic.

Engine

The car engine is the most important part. When choosing a car, the first attention is drawn to the body, because it is necessary not only to enjoy driving, but also to transport the necessary goods. But if the car is more spacious, then you need a more powerful engine to move it and everything inside. Therefore, the most powerful unit is installed on the UAZ Patriot. In different trim levels, buyers have options with a 2.7-liter gasoline and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Diesel power 113 versus 127 hp at petrol. But car owners often choose to blow Iveco, which is the most reliable and provides good cross-country ability.

For the Chevrolet Niva, only 1 engine option is available - gasoline, with a displacement of 1.7 liters. The developed power does not exceed 80 horsepower. This means that the UAZ is much more powerful than the Niva.
But most of the Patriot's power is spent on putting a large mass of cars in motion. Therefore, sometimes even such an engine is not enough to overtake on the track or boast of ideal cross-country ability.

Transmission

Both cars are equipped with 6-speed gearboxes with a transfer case. All-wheel drive is controlled using a special lever located in the passenger compartment, next to the handle. Restyled Patriot models can be equipped with a washer for switching the drive.
Chevrolet is equipped with a model of Russian assembly. UAZ is equipped with Daimos products manufactured in Korea. Therefore, there are slight differences in the implementation of the transmission. Chevrolet Niva works with permanent all-wheel drive. In UAZ, rear-wheel drive is constantly involved, the front-wheel drive is connected using a transfer case and a clutch.

Fuel consumption.

According to this indicator, a Chevrolet with an average consumption of 10 liters per 100 km with a mixed driving cycle would be preferable. The Patriot consumes 2.5-3 liters more, depending on the selected engine. The high fuel consumption is compensated by the installed 2 fuel tanks.
In the urban cycle, consumption increases to 13 liters for the Niva and up to 15-16 liters for the Patriot.

Interior view

Due to the greater clearance on the UAZ, thresholds are set for the convenience of passengers boarding.

Similar thresholds can be installed on the Niva, but this is more for aesthetic reasons.

How to make the right choice?

You can go on comparing these two cars for a long time, but first of all, you need to pay attention to your own needs and how comfortable you will feel behind the wheel. Niva is ideal for novice drivers and those who have to make daily trips around the city and make frequent trips off-road. Patriot will good option for those who are accustomed to long-distance travel and at the same time, full autonomy is necessary.

The topic of comparing UAZ Patriot and Chevrolet Niva is increasingly popping up in forum discussions where the owners of domestic SUVs scrupulously examine the advantages and disadvantages of cars. conclusions comparative analysis will be useful both to those who already have a Patriot or Niva, and to those who are just going to buy a car, but have not yet decided completely.

In principle, opinions about these cars were divided into two camps. The division code consists of a base for comparing dimensions, cross-country ability and endurance. Supporters of Patra do not consider Niva a full-fledged SUV, because the squat body contour and smaller dimensions make the Niva very similar to a crossover. The width of the cars is the same and is 2m, only Niva is 32 cm lower and 70 cm shorter than UAZ. The Patriot fully justifies its name with its appearance, it cannot be confused with any other representative of the jeep family. But for the brutal scope in size and due to the angularity of the forms and high ground clearance, the Patriot clearly loses to the more maneuverable Niva on the track, where she will not lag too far behind the passenger "brothers". As a result, at this stage, the Patriot is for those who easily adapt to the impressive dimensions of the car and love aggressive hard off-road, and the Niva is for those who prefer versatility and do not tend to drive one car with a company that includes more than 5- you man.

And now for the hidden details and technical features"fillings" UAZ Patriot and Chevro Niva. Certainly, there is simply a huge difference in power parameters. First of all, it is worth realizing that Patras is a heavyweight in the domestic auto industry, because. its weight, depending on the modification, ranges from 2070 to 2170 kg (with the exception of Sport), and the weight of the lighter Niva is 1860 kg. The UAZ gasoline engine for 127 horses is increasingly preferred to a diesel engine, which is smaller in power, but stubbornly keeps good speed at increased loads. The Niva engine allows you to keep up in heavy traffic on the highway, but overtaking with effort accelerates it.

In general, both cars are clearly not designed for high-speed drifting and, of course, Patriot's fuel consumption is higher than Niva's. In the urban cycle, these differences will be most noticeable. Shniva on the track fits into the classic consumption of 10\100, but the Patriot falls short of 13\100. In the city, any of the cars rises by another 3 liters, so the Patriot is an SUV for those who will not bother with fuel economy calculations.

There are no complaints about the handling of both cars, but there are also significant differences. Both the UAZ Patriot and the Shniva are equipped with 5-speed gearboxes with a separate transfer lever control from the passenger compartment. On the restyled Patriots, the transfer case is already turned on automatically. Only the long-term inclusion of the front axle and the constant operation of the machine in extreme conditions lead to wear of the box itself, respectively. you can rely on the Patriot for cross-country riding, but inspections of the condition of the box should be regular. Niva in this regard is a "permanent all-wheel drive" car and even though it successfully copes with off-road, nevertheless Shniva is not designed for demonstration performances outside of tourist routes.

And finally, the aspect of comfort in Patriot and Niva is conceptually different. Of course, in terms of dimensions, Patr wins with spaciousness, and in Niva, a neat and pleasant interior design can accommodate up to 5 people who are not particularly fond of fast food). Patriot in motion, of course, tougher, so that the Niva for "peaceful" purposes on the beaten paths will behave more accommodatingly, tk. on the move it is softer and smoother. As a result, that Patrick, that Shniva - both cars are worthy of attention (especially in comparison with the prices for foreign cars of the same class), but in comparison they differ most of all not in quality, but the main selection criterion is the operating conditions of the machine.
