A basic do-it-yourself kite consists of three strips glued to a sheet of dense material. At the end, a tail is attached with a small weight, which acts as a rudder. What is a kite

Design

The construction of a simple kite, from a flying frame with a stretched cover, can be assembled at home. It will not gain much height, but it will be a good start to gain basic construction skills. A single principle works here, based on the aerodynamic, physical properties of objects. Lanyards are attached to the corners of the body and combined into a bridle for stable control. The main condition for a high start is wind speed (3-4 m / s). It is recommended to run the finished model in an open area where there are no trees and wires. In light winds, you can run to catch the moment when you send the flying vehicle into the air. It is better to cope with this task together. The smoothness of the flight depends on how correctly the tail and the length of the lines are adjusted to the size of the structure.

Types

There are a large number of models to choose from: flat, volumetric, curved, frameless, triangular or multi-link. The latter differ from the flat kite in their high structural stability. The multi-cell form, with a large number of individual links, connects in the form of polyhedrons. A group of interconnected flying devices looks spectacular in the sky. The width of such a product is suitable for attaching a small camera for aerial photography from a height.

How to make a kite with your own hands

To make a flying kite at home, you need to choose a model that determines the shape of the frame and the material of the surface. Determine the number of bearing rails supporting the web in tension ... Sheets of paper, cloth, plastic bag, cardboard are used as a canvas. You can fasten the slings in one or two places of the base. It is possible to give good aerodynamic power both to an uncontrolled (single-line) and controlled (multi-line) model. The thread take-up spool will eliminate tangles during starting.

From paper

You can make a paper kite as follows:

  1. Fold a square out of thick paper.
  2. Mark the axis of symmetry.
  3. Bend the sides in half.
  4. Bend the corners to form an accordion.
  5. Pass a long string through the center of the accordion.
  6. Attach the adjustment rail.
  7. Connect a bundle of threads prepared in advance.
  8. Decorate the free end of the tail with bows or patches.
  9. Pull the tail through the hole, secure it securely with a rope.

From fabric

Develop an original scheme to make a flying toy snake from wire using fabric:

  1. Wrap a piece of flexible wire with threads, fix them at the ends.
  2. Give the wire the desired shape.
  3. Trace a piece of fabric along the contour of the frame, leaving an allowance of 1.5 centimeters.
  4. Glue the fabric to the wire piece.
  5. Decorate the surface.
  6. Tie a rope in several places.
  7. Bring the ends of the ropes to one point, stepping back 30 centimeters from the kite, fasten them together.
  8. Attach the rope.

Polyethylene

  1. Prepare two planks, where one is twice as long as the other.
  2. Fold them up from the top of the long plank.
  3. Secure the connection point with tape.
  4. Wrap the strips with tape, make small cuts.
  5. Pull a strong thread through the cuts, secure it.
  6. Trace the outline of the finished frame on the polyethylene, adding one centimeter.
  7. Cut and tape the edges.
  8. Tie a 30 cm thread on a short stick.
  9. Tie a piece of fishing line to the top of a long stick.
  10. Connect all three ends of the fishing line to each other and the thread of the lower corners, for which you will hold the snake, secure with tape.
  11. Decorate with ribbons.

Dragon kite

A large construction with a dragon-like outline is performed as follows:

  1. Select materials for framing and covering.
  2. Craft a support base for the desired flying dragon shape.
  3. Secure the connected structures with a thin rope.
  4. Draw a drawing of the model on paper, use it as a template.
  5. Cut out the contours of the kite for aerodynamic coverage.
  6. Decorate the surface with homemade designs or stickers.
  7. Attach the outer upholstery to the frame.
  8. Attach the slings, tie the rope.

Box kite

The box kite belongs to the multi-plane models. It is done like this:

  1. Craft 4 long wooden slats and 6 slats are half as long.
  2. Secure the short ones crosswise with a self-tapping screw.
  3. Attach the long slats to the smaller ones in the center and at the ends.
  4. Pull the large sides together at the corners with wire or string criss-cross.
  5. Wrap the rope on the slats, secure it with tape in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped of the frame.
  6. Attach the plastic strips to the slats, making a full turn around the item.
  7. Pull rope over the cellophane covering around the perimeter of the square, glue tightly on the surface.
  8. Make wire loops to tie the rope.

Rhombic serpent

You can assemble a kite with your own hands so that the structure has improved aerodynamic characteristics. The description will help you:

  1. Make 6 long wooden slats and 4 slats half the length.
  2. Make from small crosses.
  3. Wrap the sides with wire, fix.
  4. Attach long strips to the sides of the crosses.
  5. Coat the wooden slats with linseed oil.
  6. Tape the frame with tape around each crosspiece.
  7. Align the frame in the perpendicular position of the rails in the crosses.
  8. Cover the body of the snake with tape in two layers, being careful not to damage the shape.
  9. Tie a strong thread to each rail, fix with a strip of tape.
  10. Attach fishing line to the wider side of the diamond at both ends of the batten.

You may have seen a toy, which is a small wooden box with a side curtain cover. A handle is attached to the cover. Once a toy was brought to my grandson from Romania (Fig. 1.). It was a small wooden box with a side curtain cover. A handle is attached to the cover. If you move the curtain with the handle, a wooden figure of a snake suddenly appears from the box. When the shutter is pulled in, the snake hides. Almost all parts of the toy are made of beech. As you know, residents of Western Ukraine make a lot of handicrafts from this wood species. Maybe this toy was made by a Ukrainian master, or maybe a Romanian one. This is unknown to me.

Having studied the principle of the toy, we have developed our own technology for its manufacture, which is given below. General form our version of the toy is shown in Figure 2, the device is shown in Figure 3.

The device of the dynamic toy "Snake": 1-left cheek (plywood); 2-side wall of the case, high (wooden rail 6x13 mm); 3-cheek right (plywood); 4-figure of a snake (linden); 5-sting (nail diameter 1 mm); 6-thread (nylon, diameter 1 mm); 7-curtain (wooden lath 10x17 mm); 8-handle (beech, birch); 9-side wall of the case, low (wooden rail 6x13 mm); 10-side wall of the case, intermediate (wooden rail 6x13 mm); 11-axis (nail diameter 1.3 mm).

Operating principle toys are as follows: one end of the thread is fixed on the snake figure 4, and the other - in the hole for the handle 8, then when the curtain 7 moves to the right, the thread is pulled, the snake turns on the axis 11 and, thus, moves out of the body. When the curtain moves to the left, the thread sags, and the snake figure under its own weight returns to its original position.

To make a toy you will need billet made of three-layer beech plywood (or five-layer birch) with dimensions 150x90 mm, lath 6x13 mm long 250 mm from any type of wood, lath 10x100 100 mm long also from any type of wood, small billet beech or birch for the handle, lime plank S \u003d 13 mm 50x60 mm for a snake figure, steel nails with a diameter of 1 and 1.3 mm, a strong thread with a diameter of 1 mm and a length of about 100 mm, PVA glue, a small-sized circular with a fine-toothed mill (it is possible for metal), drills with a diameter of 1.3 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, drilling machine or a drill, a wood lathe, a pencil, a ruler, a piece of cardboard for a snake template, office scissors, an awl, a file, pliers, a knife, a sandpaper, an awl, a sawing table, a jigsaw.

Due to the fact that the presence of a small-sized circular and lathe on wood can be problematic; when explaining the technology, advice will be given on how to do without them, using more affordable equipment.

Manufacturing technology of the dynamic toy "Snake"

1. Mark and cut two cheeks out of S5 (beech) or S6 (birch) plywood. If there is no small circular, this operation can be performed using a jigsaw.

2. Mark and mill a groove in each cheek and drill a hole with a diameter of 1.3 mm (drill holes simultaneously in both cheeks, folding them with grooves inward). In the absence of a machine, the grooves can be made manually using a hand saw by inserting two blades into it.

3. Mark and cut off three 6x13 mm strips. This operation can be performed using a circular saw or manually with a locksaw hacksaw, having previously secured the workpiece in the clamp of the joiner's workbench.

4. Glue with PVA glue to one of the rail cheeks and insert a nail with a diameter of 1.3 into the hole.

5. Mark and make a shutter from a 10x17 mm rail and drill a hole 6 mm in diameter in it. In the absence of a machine, this operation can be performed by gluing two workpieces 2x17 mm and 8x10 mm.

6. Carve the handle. If there is no lathe, this part can be made by hand using a knife and abrasive paper.

7. Make a template for a snake figurine out of cardboard.

8. Mark out according to the template on a linden board and cut out a blank for a snake figurine with a jigsaw. Drill through holes with a diameter of 1.3 and 2 mm in it. Razink the hole with a diameter of 1.3 mm with a drill with a diameter of 3 mm to a depth of 7 mm (for a thread knot).

9. Put the snake blank on the axle, check if it touches the walls of the body, if necessary, remove excess wood.

10. Finish the production of the snake figurine: stitch the neck and head with a knife until the required shape and size is reached, finish, insert a nail-sting with a diameter of 1 mm, cut off the cap, blunt.

11. Assemble the product in the sequence below and test it.

Assembly sequence:

1. Pass the thread through the 1.3 mm hole in the snake figure, tie a knot and tighten it into the 3 mm hole;
2. Put on the snake figure with a 2 mm hole on the axle;
3. Glue the second cheek of the body so that the axis passes through a hole with a diameter of 1.3 mm;
4. Pass the thread through the 6 mm hole in the blind;
5. Insert the shutter into the grooves, adjust the length of the thread and fix it by inserting the handle spike without glue;
6. Test the toy: when pulling out and pulling in the curtain, the snake figure should gently protrude and hide;
7. Cut the ends of the stud-axle, blunt. Cut off the excess thread.

Note: if necessary, replace the thread, remove the handle from the hole with a diameter of 6 mm, push out the axis, take out the snake, thread a new thread and assemble in the reverse order.

Moreover, they are not afraid of rain, wind and sun. It is also very convenient that they can be rearranged anywhere, they will not crumble or disintegrate. To make a cactus you will need:
* Plastic clamps.
* Hose.

Method for preparing cactus:
Despite the fact that we need few materials to make a cactus, it turns out to be very beautiful and original. We take the hose and start twisting it in a circle, it is better if you have some kind of device, a base, so that it is more convenient to do this. If not, carefully twist the hose in a circle and periodically fix the clamps on it. Having fastened the clamp, we straighten the ponytails outward, if it seems to you that the ponytails are large, then you can safely cut them later to the length you need. They will imitate cactus needles. You can make any sizes for cacti, at your discretion. It all depends on how much hose you have, the diameter of the hose also plays a role. The thinner the hose, the smaller the cactus will be. If you have different pieces of hose left, you can try to assemble a cactus from them, just paint them all in one color.

You can also make flowers or cactus babies on cacti. To do this, cut off small pieces of the hose and fix the flower on them, and then attach to the finished cactus. We do children in the same way as large cacti, only small in size. Flowers can be made from plastic bottles or hose pieces or attach artificial flowers. The main thing is that our flowers are bright and beautiful.

For the production of cacti, it is not necessary to use new hoses or green ones, old unnecessary ones will do, and if the hose of a different color can be painted.

In order to make a kite with your own hands, you need 5 things: basic labor skills, materials, drawings, desire and patience.   2. Mentally or with a pencil, draw a straight line between two opposite corners of the square - mark its axis.
  3. Bend the paper so that the right and left sides of the square "lie" on its axis.
  4. Fold the corners up twice in an accordion manner.
  5. From both sides in the middle of the accordion, glue a thread 30 cm long. The result is a "bridle".
  6. Tie a rope tightly in the center of the bridle to launch and control the kite.

A snake cannot be controlled without a tail, so do not forget to make a rope from ribbons or threads intertwined with each other and tied at the bottom with a tassel.

  1. Sew 20 pieces of regular thread or 5-6 pieces of wool. Their length for a small snake should be at least 50 cm.
  2. Fold the cut pieces together and tie with a brush towards the end or twist into a braid. You can decorate the tail with bows or paper triangles.
  3. In the lower corner of the snake, make a hole, pass the tail through and tie it with a knot or glue it.
  4. If you are using ribbons or strips of fabric instead of thread, thread them through the hole, wrap and hem the top to the bottom.

In addition to decorative and entertainment functions, the first kites in China were used in construction. With their help, ropes were thrown over reservoirs and ravines for the subsequent building of bridges.

This design is made according to the same principle as the triangular kite. You will need 2 slats (60 and 30 cm), a plastic bag, fishing line and tape.

  1. Fold the slats in a cross so that the short one crosses the long one at a height of one quarter of the total length.
  2. Tie them up with tape or string.
  3. Place the resulting cross over a plastic bag.

How to make a bird-shaped structure

To get a kite that resembles a bird in flight, use one trick: fasten the bowstring between the side parts. Under the pressure of the wind, it will either stretch or weaken, making the structure "winged".

Necessary materials:

  • 8 sticks with a diameter of less than 1 cm and a length of 30.5 cm, 3 sticks of 91.5 cm and 3 sticks of 150 cm from linden or pine;
  • nylon or plastic wrap;
  • fishing line;
  • coil.
  1. Lay the 150 cm long rods in front of you, parallel to each other.
  2. Place a 91.5 cm stick across and 59.75 cm from the edge.
  3. Tie it with threads so that a distance of 30.5 cm remains between the first and second, and 61 cm between the second and third.
  4. Step back 30.5 cm to the larger side, attach a second stick 91.5 cm long.
  5. Tie 4 short slats at a distance of 30.5 cm from each other at an angle so that they converge at the bottom into a triangle (see diagram).
  6. Cover the closed ends of the short strips with the last rail 91.5 cm long. The result is a "nursery" tied in the center of the structure.
  7. Tie everything with threads smeared with glue.
  8. Fasten the ends of the long sticks previously soaked in water. You need to wet them so that they do not break when bent.
  9. Pull the line between the ends of the "wings".
  10. To make the "body" of the snake from the fabric, cut out a pentagon (top and bottom sides 30.5 cm each, height 91.5 cm + 2 cm for the fold). In the center, make a square with a side length of 30.5 cm.
  11. From the bottom corners of the square, measure to the left and right at 59.75 cm.
  12. Extend the segments from the ends of the upper and lower sides of the pentagon to the obtained points. It turned out a canvas with a window in the middle.
  13. Trim and glue the wooden snake frame.
  14. Additionally cut out 4 crib inserts. Each measuring 30.5 x 30.5 cm. Insert them into the "windows", glue.
  15. Make a tail out of rope and leftover fabric, attach to one side of the manger.
  16. On the other hand, make a bridle from two interconnected lines and tightly tie a thread with a coil (line) to them.

In order for the structure not to fall on one side and not disintegrate in the air, just stick to the dimensions and tightly tie the parts together.

Bulk (box) kites

To create a voluminous snake you will need:

  • wooden slats (window glazing beads can be used) - 4 pcs. 1 m long and 6 x 60 cm;
  • large garbage bags;
  • durable nylon harness on a reel from a hardware store;
  • scotch;
  • ruler;
  • square;
  • scissors;
  • glue.

Secrets of a Successful Launch

You can fly the snake alone, but this requires a certain skill. It is more convenient and more fun to do it together. One holds a snake, the other a spool of fishing line or thread (line).
