At the present time, when psychotropic generators are becoming a reality, it has become necessary to acquaint a wide range of people with the elementary basics of owning one's biofield, to talk about elementary ways to develop protection skills at the field (mental) level.

The work is intended for the development of a person's mental abilities and the development of skills to protect against energy aggression, both from individual people and from fields of technotronic origin.

The exercises used in various types martial arts for the development of the field component of a fighter.

On the basis of the hypothesis of the wave nature of man, the connection between the field and physical components of the human body is shown.

Elements that develop the ability to kill and otherwise harm have been removed from the exercise.

The work is intended for

individual reading and

It is inappropriate for anyone

I saw it in your hands.

It is known that any material thing has its own field. But what does the thing itself consist of? It is logical to assume that solid physical matter is also a certain type of field and energy. If you dig deeper and think about what we ourselves are made of, it is easy to understand that we are wave packets of gravitational and other wave substances that have not yet been studied by us. If we extend the known scale of wavelengths, then on the one hand we have ultra-long waves, on the other hand, ultra-short ones. We, apparently, consist of ultra-short waves that create everything that we perceive as the material world, including ourselves. Based on the above, it is easy to explain a lot of incomprehensible things that we meet in this life, for example, the actions of healers and much more.

Man, woven from a multitude of wave substances and products of their interaction, is the most complex biological part of the noosphere. On the other hand, it is a powerful source of secondary radiation, with the help of which, in the process of evolution, it more and more remakes the environment for itself. Moreover, as the waves emitted by the transmitter wander in space, even after it is turned off, so after the radiation of any person, they function for a long time after his death and can interact with the fields of the living. Apparently, those who, during their lifetime, have learned to consciously own their field essence and control it, will apparently be able to achieve the ability to live for a long time in their physical body, which will be constantly updated by the field component of the rejecting factors, leading to its weakening.

The purpose of this work is to teach a person to control his field and feel it, to be able to protect himself from energy aggression, both from individuals and fields of technotronic origin, the ability to resist the imposition of someone else's will.

The basis of owning your body is the ability to own your feelings and emotions. After all, it is uncontrolled emotions, which affect the overall functioning of the body, lead to a change in its individual connections and, as a result, to diseases. The control of emotions and feelings should not be based on the suppression of emotions due to strong will, but the formation of such a human psychology that would separate these emotions and feelings from the functioning of the body. The principle of building such a psychology is most clearly adopted in Buddhism and can be expressed in the main postulate of the Dim-Mak fight: “During a fight, a fighter must be calm like the surface of a lake.”

Having separated everything superfluous from world religions, we will have a set of simple everyday rules that teach the main thing - do no evil, do not wish evil. Be kind to the world around you.

If you have read this far, please stop and consider whether you have the strength to carry out these principles. The fact is that if you continue to read it without purifying your soul, even further reading will bring you much suffering and misfortune.

It should be noted that thought, thinking, like any other wave process, is material, and the proposed work is aimed at developing the material component of thought. Remember, a thought is material and any movement of a thought instantly leaves you, like a twig thrown by you into a river, is carried away with the flow, and a thought leaves you in space-time, and this cannot be changed. If you have thought bad things about someone, then regardless of you, your mental image affects the addressee because we can interact with each other absolutely unconsciously. But each person has a certain type and level of protection. If you hit someone with your hand, it will hurt you like this, and here, regardless of the result of your mental aggression, part of your energy that has left with a mental image will be reflected back to you and hit you and not only you, but also people with a genetic structure close to your type, then have relatives and children. Despite the low energy, a blow to you will be adequate, and perhaps more destructive than yours, because the reflected energy corresponds to the structure of your field, and will not be delayed by it, but on the contrary, it can be strengthened.

The strongest interaction of field structures is with direct emotional and physical contacts. The interpenetration of fields leads to a violation of the stability of the field structure and transfers it to a metastable state. In this case, to restore the broken structure great importance has a degree of strength of the physical body, that is, due to the energy generated by the physical body, the field structure is restored.

Pay attention to people whose work involves emotional and physical contact with different people. They usually have a stout build. The field structures of these people are constantly being perturbed by other field structures, which constantly keeps the field of this person in a metastable state. This makes the physical body work at the limit modes. On the other hand, if a person is in contact with a constant circle of people, in this case his field structure adapts to their fields, acquiring structures common with them. Of greatest interest are married couples living together for a long time. Often, along with the adaptation of genetic structures, their physical bodies change, and they become similar to each other. In other words, the strongest interaction of field structures occurs during sexual contacts.

As mentioned above, the process of thinking is material and therefore should be organized in such a way as to have a minimal impact on the environment, that is, it should be located at least on two levels:

Abstract, unaddressed thinking, as if closed, screened from all sides;

Action thoughts.

This is the first thing you have to learn to do. And the effectiveness depends on you, your will and abilities. In the general case, developed thinking is the basis for achieving success in any business, in our case, the most effective way is to study mathematics in the volume of a university, wait a giggle.

Intensive studies in solving equations (from simple square ones to differential ones), the ability to correctly compose these equations requires clear thinking (the ability to remember and take into account many factors), the ability to represent the physical essence of a given equation - all this develops memory and disciplines thinking. In martial arts, this was achieved by various meditative exercises for several years. I want to warn the impatient, of course, anyone who picks up this work will read it to the end. But if you want any positive effect for yourself, then everything that is described here must be done in the order of presentation, and only having achieved, in your opinion, positive results, you can move on to the next one, even if it takes years.

People are born weak and strong. Frail, if he really wants and works hard on himself, he becomes strong. Tales of pale skinny people mentally moving armchairs and chairs, to put it mildly, are nonsense. Any person in a certain psychological state is able to dramatically increase his physical and mental abilities to perform a series of some actions, but then he pays a very high price for this, and, in the future, cannot always return to his original state. The physical structure of our body corresponds to the structure and level of development of our organs. A person who gradually, either in the gym or as a result of doing some kind of work naturally develops both the external structure of his body (muscles) and the internal structure (internal organs that feed these muscles) develops harmoniously for the benefit of himself. The use of any drugs that lead to rapid muscle growth rape the internal organs, undermining their ability to function stably, which further leads to the emergence of various diseases.

In our case, a hasty attempt to achieve any effect can lead to undermining our main mental component of the body, which can lead not only to severe physical illnesses, but also mental disorders.

Each person is born with certain mental abilities - some are stronger, others are weaker, but everyone has them. Very often, as a child, a person suddenly notices that he is somehow different from his peers, and this difference very often leads to various unpleasant moments. The child tries to be like everyone else, and sometimes, growing out, drowns out his abilities in himself, or until the end of his days hides them even from the closest people, tormented by the consciousness of his inferiority.

As has been mentioned more than once, the thought process, like any other wave process, is material, and apparently in the future a person will learn to combine the process of thinking and creating material values - their own material values, because our current ones are unlikely to be needed by our descendants.

The main step towards mastering one's own powers and their development is the ability to control one's thinking, that is, to develop concentration in oneself, the ability to control not only one's actions, but also thoughts in any situation. Act always on the basis of benevolence and causing minimal harm. As mentioned above, a physically frail person is not able to create a sufficiently strong mental field without harming himself, so you need to start physical exercises in parallel with the exercises in this book that will increase your strength and endurance. good foundation give classes on martial arts techniques; sambo, judo, karate, qigong, dim mak and others. It is advisable to what is said above to get acquainted with the beginnings of anatomy, acupuncture, to study the main energy channels and the time of their functioning.

Despite the simplicity and brevity of the proposed exercises, the correct gradual mastery of them will require a lot of effort and several years of training from you. They should be performed carefully, gradually, monotonously. Just as a whole bucket of water is collected drop by drop, so here you will gradually come to a completely different worldview, you will feel the strength and beauty of nature, your place in it.

Of course, by transgressing to the study of the proposed exercises, you have already become a benevolent calm person whom nothing in the world can unbalance, taught yourself to act and think in such a way as not to harm people or minimize the negative results of your actions. If so, then the first exercise:

Within ten fifteen minutes, every day you need to develop a sense of time for yourself and learn how to fix it without a clock. Putting a watch with a second hand in front of you, watch it for a while, then, closing your eyes, try to mentally imagine how the second hand moves along the dial and, opening your eyes, compare the position of the hand where you imagined it mentally with where this hand is in reality. In less than a month, you will learn to clearly beat five, ten, fifteen seconds, a minute, three, five, ten. In addition, when going to bed or doing some work, look at the position of the clock hands and, closing your eyes, mentally imagine on them the time when you should wake up or finish this work. After a while, learn to feel the time quite accurately without a watch. After you have mastered this exercise, we move on to the relaxation exercise, and the ability to completely disconnect from the environment.

First, lying down, in the evening, or at any time convenient for you, preferably in a dim room, it should be noted that no one should interfere with this exercise, because the sharp voice of the spouse, the ringing of a falling object, even the exhaust of a car perceived by you in the state of entering shavasana can be very serious. damage your health. And, at best, will increase the time for which you will master this exercise.

Lie on your back on a flat surface without a pillow and first of all forget about everything that surrounds you. There is nothing and no one - the world is you, you swim in the void. Your arms are extended along the body and pressed with your palms to your hips, your legs are straight and even, your feet are parallel to each other. Slowly relax your legs and then your arms. After you have relaxed: the feet and hands spontaneously take a position convenient for them, the head will turn slightly to the side, the mouth will open slightly and you will look like a fresh corpse from the side. Therefore, this pose is called shavasana-corpse pose. At first, you mentally suggest to yourself that in five minutes you will wake up and get up. The fact is that when doing this exercise, especially at the beginning, they very often fall asleep and sleep in a healthy deep sleep for several hours. Then you imagine how your legs become heavy and warm, the heat from the tips of the toes gradually rises up and reaches the head, there is a kind of plane, which, rising from the legs, also captures the hands from the tips of the fingers and higher throughout the body. Do not be upset if in a fixed period of time the heat only reaches the knees or even less, it may happen that at first you will not be able to relax properly, do not be upset and do not rush, the exercise is fully mastered in a year and a half. Gradually increasing the time, you will reach a state in which your body, having filled up, will become heavy, after which a feeling of lightness and weightlessness should appear - the main thing at this stage is to be able not to think about anything, focusing only on your body. After reaching this state, you will have the feeling that your body has become weightless, and you seem to be falling into a bottomless well, you may experience a feeling of dizziness. Surrender to this feeling, do not be afraid of it, because if you interrupt the exercise at this moment, it will cross out everything that you have achieved by learning it, and you will have to start all over again. You seem to be floating, falling into the void in a weightless liquid penetrating you. Shavasana exercise

Runs no more than twenty minutes. Never give in to the temptation to stay in this state longer when your clock tells you it's time to come back. During this exercise, your body will cool down, and this after the specified time has elapsed is dangerous to health. Two or three months later, or a little more, after you start doing the relaxation exercise, after you feel that you have begun to swim in the weightless liquid penetrating you, in parallel with this, we begin to learn the next exercise.

Proper breathing is a very difficult exercise that allows you to accumulate energy. The proposed exercise is not the only one, but the most simple and affordable. I want to note that improper performance of this exercise, haste, can harm your health.

Stand up straight, hands on your hips, breathe calmly and evenly, then pressing the tip of your tongue to the upper alveoli, slowly inhale the air first with your stomach and then with your lower chest. After taking in air, rest your tongue against the base of the lower teeth and exhale first with the upper chest, then with the middle and stomach, trying to squeeze the stomach as close as possible to the ribs. If you experience any pain, stop the exercise and resume after a few days. You should not strive to immediately inhale, stretching your stomach or chest harder, as well as exhale, squeezing them. Start small by doing it two to three times a day. This exercise is fully assimilated within a year and a half. Starting as described above, avoiding pain, after the first five to six months you will be able to do this exercise eight to nine times, gradually increasing the amount of air you inhale. If the pain does not stop when learning this exercise, then you need to see a doctor and cure what hurts you. Many, starting this exercise with diseased internal organs, try to continue doing it despite the pain. In no case should the exercise cause pain, because then it will only bring harm.

After you have learned to breathe correctly and rhythmically, by the way, after several months of training, you will unconsciously and very often breathe like this without noticing it, start holding your breath while inhaling, starting from ten seconds and up to two minutes, but only so that it does not cause discomfort . The second part of this exercise will be described later.

The space fixation exercise can be started as soon as you read it in parallel with the rest. It can be done in any place where you will not be disturbed, the duration is three to ten minutes. Sitting, standing, lying down, you close your eyes, and mentally reproduce everything that you just saw in front of you, repeat the exercise to such a state that with your eyes closed you can touch any object or place as if your eyes were open. After you have mastered this part of the exercise, we proceed to the next one: now you have to do the same as in the previous one, only not in front, but first on the left side and then on the right. After you get it, the same thing will need to be done only from behind, and then from above and below. When in about a year or a little more you will get the above exercise, repeat the same thing, but only at a distance of five ten meters. When you succeed, try closing your eyes and focusing on seeing yourself from all sides. Having mastered this stage, we proceed to the next one - a sense of space. Blindfolded, you should completely relax to feel the space around you, feeling not only motionless objects, but also moving objects up to a mosquito at a distance of five to six meters.

At the next stage, you must imagine that you are walking, that is, remaining motionless, blindfolded or closed, mentally leave the room where you are, you can go up a little and look around, and then, having stayed at some point space go back. Remember, no matter how far you go, you must definitely come back.

As you master shavasana and the fixation exercise in space, you will have to master the concentration exercise. Different schools recommend doing it differently.

For example, according to the Dim Mak system, one candle is placed and a person focuses on its flame and then, closing his eyes, mentally imagines this candle. Then the second candle is placed, and everything is repeated with only two. And so gradually the number of candles is brought to 17, which are placed around the seated person, and he mentally keeps them all in his memory. Then, already mentally, imagining the flame of a candle, he first moves in front of him, then rotates it around him faster and faster each time until the point turns into a circle, and then he rotates this circle around himself until it turns into a canvas enveloping the whole person - the so-called cocoon.

This cocoon completely isolates a person from energy-information exchange with the environment, therefore it is recommended to leave a small hole on top.

In the reiki system, a more gentle, but no less effective method point creation. I think that it will suit you, especially since you will approach this exercise after you have mastered the exercise of fixing in space, at the stage at which you can see yourself from all sides.

Relaxing in the maximum possible darkness, at first it is better to lie down before going to bed, with your eyes closed, try to mentally imagine a luminous point at a distance of 1.3 meters directly against your bridge of the nose. This exercise is very difficult to perform at the initial stage, so at first we do it for no more than five minutes. During this exercise spontaneous release of energy is possible. There will be a feeling as if from the temporal-frontal region on both sides of the head and from the region of the bridge of the nose, a weightless multi-colored liquid from dark purple to white-green will begin to pour into the point of space you represent. Before your eyes, shreds of fog of the color indicated above can float, as it were, they can float out, and very clearly as in a color photo of a face, this is a common phenomenon, but when faces appear, it is advisable to drive them away by an effort of will to stop the exercise. If you correctly performed all the above exercises, then after a few sessions you will see a bright white-green dot, which, like a supernova, after flashing, will go up relative to your face. The next step is to hold this point in place by an effort of will and make it move as you like. Next, do as described above for the Dim Mak system.

After you have learned how to wrap yourself in a cocoon, move on to the next exercise.

You need to learn how to put screens, shields only in a certain direction, and learn to mentally repel everything that is in front of them, in addition, wrapping yourself in a cocoon, learn how to repel everything that can approach you in such a way that, when repulsed, it is like would swell a bit.

After mastering this exercise, we move on to the next one. You need to learn how to work with color and create simple geometric shapes. First you need to learn how to light multi-colored dots, all the colors of the rainbow, just like you learned earlier, with the only difference being that each subsequent dot will be a different color. Then the same with various geometric shapes - a rectangle, a ball, a cube, a ball segment.

It is imperative that after these exercises all mental images are necessary: screens, shells, completely erased.

If you have mastered the proposed exercises, then you can already treat people and yourself, but do not rush to rejoice and God forbid you heal. It is not enough to have a scalpel in your hand, to be a doctor you need to learn.

At the stage of learning the previous exercise, you can also perform an auxiliary exercise. Lie on your back in maximum darkness for you, raise your hands and touch flat palms to each other. Folded palms slowly, slowly, move away from each other at a distance of five to ten millimeters. First, you will feel a slight tingling and slight itching in your palms, then you will see light purple, green sparks jumping between your palms and between your fingers, which, depending on your fitness and abilities, can turn into long lightning bolts. If you try to push your palms apart with a weak effort or move them, you will feel resistance. Spreading your palms at a distance of eight to ten centimeters, try to light a dot between them, the second, up to seven eight pieces and paint them in different colors, play with them moving them wherever you want, just try to form some kind of geometric figure besides the dots. If you don’t succeed right away, don’t rush, gradually learn.

It is known that the left side and the left palm take in energy, while the right side and palm radiate it. Any organism, including humans, receives the energy supply necessary for normal life and produces it itself. In order to properly protect yourself from someone else's energy aggression, you need to take additional portions of energy. The easiest way is the following. Two and a half fingers below the navel is a chakra through which the body takes energy from space during inhalation. Lie down, relax and try to feel this chakra. You may have the feeling that along the line from the bridge of the nose to the navel and below you have not one, but several holes, and it is, but you must focus on the proposed one. As you breathe, as you learned earlier, you will feel a little heat enter your body through this chakra with each inhalation and exit as you exhale. Remember this feeling.

The next step is to imagine that there is a valve in this chakra that starts this heat when you inhale, and closes when you exhale, holding it and gradually filling your stomach with warmth. At first, you don’t need to get carried away and take it too much. After holding it for a while, release it as much as it comes out on its own. Please note. Too much and abrupt energy intake can lead to disruption of the intestines and internal organs, roughly speaking, to wild diarrhea. Your internal organs should get used to energy doping.

When you are sure to do this, you can proceed to the next step. Standing with your hands on your hips, start taking energy, as described above. Take five ten breaths, and it does not matter if the level of this liquid rises higher and higher, and when it reaches the top of the head, we proceed to the next stage.

Standing straight, we raise our hands in front of the chest, just as you did, forming a point. And we begin the circulation, directing the energy gained during inhalation to the right hand up the middle line of the body. Then through the right shoulder from the base of the right palm to the base of the left and further through the base of the left palm to the left shoulder, then to the right, etc. Gradually, the arms move wider and wider to a distance of thirty-five to forty centimeters.

The energy you have collected can be released through any point of the body and formed from it into any forms you need.

It is advisable to release energy through those places that hurt you - cuts, abrasions, just where the pain is inside, in the latter case, you need to determine exactly where it hurts to pull the pain to a point and push it out of yourself with an energy flow.

It is not recommended to treat teeth according to the described method, that is, to get rid of toothache. For many years, the author eliminated pain by willpower, which led to the fact that some teeth were lost. An attempt to grow new teeth in two cases gave positive results, however, they quickly became infected. Therefore, treat your teeth with a doctor.

After you have mastered the described exercises within 2-3 years, you will perceive the world, people are a little different, not like before. In particular, you will be able to feel the energy state of another person or object, assess the degree of its danger.

The most important thing is to learn not to betray your condition in any way. When, for example, in the soul a person hates you fiercely, flatters and stuffs himself into friends, feel the lies of loved ones, hostility or indifference to himself. You need to be able to forgive and live next to them, as if nothing had happened.

If a person harms you, you need to isolate yourself from him with an energy shield. Remember, the energy field you have learned to use is an extension of you and your hands.

Moreover, you will be able to fix in space not only yourself, but also other people. How does a psychic find a person by a thing? Yes, it’s very simple, every thing that a person touches, or his photo bears the imprint of the field of the genotype inherent only to him, and by this imprint he begins to fix this genotype in space-time, and if he really has certain skills, then he is able to determine that place, where is the main carrier of this genotype.

Starting to master these exercises, as you move forward, you will feel the beauty of the world in which you live, the charm and enjoyment of life. You cannot help but love people because we are children all our lives, only age and toys change.

And never use the acquired skills to harm people or to change reality.

All the exercises described are suitable for any age. It is expedient to teach children all this by playing with them. The sooner the child is able to master these exercises, the more chances he has to live a calm, long, fulfilling life, and in the future to master, if desired, the basic exercises not included in the abstract.

What is Mental Energy and Mental Power?

The School of Mental Energy is the Highest School for the preparation of Masters in Ancient Tibet. It is based on the mastery of the Mental Power, which makes it possible to actively create one's life in accordance with one's own desires.

In ordinary people, the Mental Force is very weak, unfocused and contradictory. In the process of mastering Mental Energy, people become much more successful in all areas of life and their desires are realized much faster, easier and in a much more complete way.

What are the stages of mastering Mental Power?

1. Increasing the level of energy vibrations of your physical body (Tibetan priestly nutrition system, sexual harmony, breathing practices, meditations, Tibetan priestly gymnastics);

2. Establishing a connection with the Mental Energy within oneself and in Nature, the ability to attract and concentrate the Mental Force;

3. The ability to radiate Mental Energy from oneself into the surrounding world, the ability to influence the Mental Force on external objects;

4. Creation of active thought forms and adjustment of one's Mental field to automatically receive intuitive revelations, the ability to realize one's desires with the help of Mental Force;

5. Influence by one's Mental Power on the Mental Fields of other beings in order to increase their energy vibrations, to prevent and protect against any manipulations between people;

6. Achievement of True Neutrality, independence from any situation, from any result, complete victory over the Ego and impulsive behavior.

THE MENTAL BODY AND THE POWER OF THOUGHT

mental body

After reading The Visible and Invisible Man, students have often noted that the list of qualities given there is incomplete, and that nothing is said there about some others that are not at all less common - for example, courage, dignity, truthfulness, loyalty, the ability to not lose heart. The reason they were not included in this report is that, unlike other qualities, they do not have readily distinguishable colors; however, it must not be assumed from this that their presence or absence will be imperceptible to the gaze of the clairvoyant. Such qualities are indicated by differences in the structure of the mental body, or by changes in its surface, and can generally be said to be expressed in form rather than color.

Recall that the images of the mental body in the book referred to show colors indicating certain basic qualities, and also say something about their general arrangement in this vehicle. In general, colors denoting good qualities can be found in the upper half of it, and colors denoting unpleasant qualities can be found mainly in the lower half. Purple high aspirations, blue religious feelings, pink color love, yellow indicating intelligence, and even Orange color pride and ambition all belong to the higher part, while thoughts caused by anger, selfishness or jealousy tend to the lower part of the ovoid. However, the illustrations given there show what the mental bodies would look like if they were really at rest; when a person thinks intensely or clearly, their appearance is significantly diversified.

The center or heart of the mental body can be considered a mental unit, and the appearance of the whole body largely depends on the comparative activity of its various parts. A variety of mental activities are naturally divided into certain classes or subdivisions, and these are expressed through different parts of the mental unit. Mental units are not at all the same - they vary significantly according to the type and development of their owners. If such a mental unit were at rest, the force radiated from it would create many cones in the mental body, just as light passing through a slide in an overhead projector creates a large divergent cone between the projector and the screen. The surface of the mental body here can be likened to a screen, because only on the surface this effect becomes visible to someone who looks at the mental body from the outside, so that if the mental unit were at rest, we would see on this surface a lot of color pictures representing different types of thought, which are common for this person, and between them there would presumably be dark places. But the mental unit rotates rapidly around its axis, which produces on the surface of the mental body the effect of many stripes, which are not always clearly defined, not always of equal width, but still easily distinguishable and usually retain their relative position.

If an aspirational thought is present, it invariably expresses itself as a beautiful little violet circle on top of the ovoid of the mental body. If the aspirant approaches the gates of the Path, this circle increases in size and brightness, and for the initiate it looks like a magnificent shining cap of such beautiful color as one can only imagine. Beneath it there is often a blue ring of religious thought, usually rather narrow, except in the case of those few whose piety is really deep and genuine. Behind it there may be a wider zone of loving thought, which can be any shade of pink or crimson, depending on the type of love it indicates. Near this zone, and often in close connection with it, one can find an orange band expressing proud and ambitious thoughts, and again, being closely associated with it, follows the yellow belt of intelligence, usually divided into two parts, signifying a philosophical and scientific type of thinking. . Its location varies considerably different people; sometimes it occupies the entire upper part of the egg, rising above piety and love, and in such cases pride is usually excessive.

Below the described group, occupying the middle section of the ovoid, there is a wide belt dedicated to specific images - this is the part of the mental body from which all ordinary thought forms come. The main color here is green, often tinted with yellow or brown, according to the inclination of the person.

There is no part of the mental body that varies more widely than this. Some people's mental bodies are full of a huge number of specific images, while others have only a few. In some they are clear and sharply defined, while in others they are extremely vague and foggy. In some they are classified, labeled and arranged in order, in others they are completely disordered and in hopeless confusion.

At the bottom of the ovoid are belts expressing all kinds of unwanted thoughts. The lower third or even half of the mental body is often filled with something like a dirty sediment of selfishness, and above it there is sometimes a ring representing hatred, cunning or fear. Naturally, as a person develops, this lower part disappears, and the upper gradually expands until it fills the entire body, as shown in the illustrations in "Man Visible and Invisible".

The degree of feeling that causes a thought is expressed by the brightness of the color. In a religious feeling, for example, three stages can be distinguished - respect, reverence and worship, in a loving feeling - benevolence, friendship and love. The stronger the thought, the stronger the vibration more the more spiritual and selfless the thought, the vibration higher. The first gives brightness, and the second - the refinement of color.

In all these various rings or zones, more or less distinct bands are usually seen, and by examining them, many qualities of a person can be judged. Having a strong will, for example, gives more certain horizontal lines. At the same time, all bands and radiations are uniform, stable and easily distinguishable, while in a weak and hypochondriac person there is noticeably no hardness and strength in the lines, the lines separating different qualities are indefinite, and the bands and radiations are small, weak and fluctuate. Courage is shown by hard and strong lines, especially in the orange band associated with pride. Dignity is also expressed mainly in this part of the body, but through a calm steadiness and confidence, which are completely different from the lines of courage.

Truthfulness and accuracy are very clearly displayed by the regularity of the bands in the part of the mental body dedicated to specific forms, as well as by the clarity and fidelity of the images seen there. Loyalty manifests itself as an increase in both love and reverence, as well as in the form of the formation in the associated part of the ovoid of the figures of the person to whom the person is faithful. In many cases of fidelity, love and religious feelings, a very strong permanent image is created for their object, and it remains to float in the aura of the thinker, so that when his thought turns to the one he loves or worships, the power poured out by him strengthens the already existing image, instead of creating a new one, as is usually the case.

Joy manifests itself by a general increase in the brightness and radiance of both bodies - both astral and mental, as well as by a kind of ripples on the surface of the body. The general vivacity and cheerful mood is expressed in a modified bubbling form of this, as well as in a steady serenity that is pleasant to look at. Surprise, on the other hand, is shown by a sharp contraction of the mental body, accompanied by an increase in luminosity in bands associated with love if the surprise is pleasant, and in a change in color, usually towards brown and gray if it is an unpleasant surprise. This constriction is generally communicated to both the astral and physical bodies, often producing surprisingly unpleasant sensations, sometimes affecting the solar plexus (causing weakness and malaise), and sometimes the heart center (causing palpitation and even death), so that sudden surprise sometimes can kill a person with a weak heart. Awe gives the same as surprise, except that it is accompanied by a profound change in the part of the mental body associated with religious feelings, which usually swells from this, and the stripes on it become more pronounced.

At the moment when a person's thought is strongly directed into one or another of these channels, the corresponding part of the mental body, in addition to increasing brightness, protrudes outward, temporarily breaking the symmetry of the ovoid. For many, this swelling is constant, and this always means that the number of thoughts of this type is constantly growing. If, for example, a person undertakes some kind of scientific research, and therefore begins to turn his thoughts more than before in this direction, then the first effect will be such a prominence as I described earlier, but if he already constantly maintains his thinking on a scientific topic on the same level, the protruding part will gradually sink back into the ovoid, the contours of which will be restored, although the corresponding color band will become brighter than before.

However, if the scientific interest of a person is constantly increasing, the prominent part will be preserved even if the band has expanded. The general consequence of this effect is that, in an undeveloped man, the lower part of the ovoid always tends to be larger than the upper, so that the mental and astral bodies look like eggs placed with the narrow part upwards, while in a developed person those qualities tend to increase that are expressed through the top, and therefore it looks like an egg with a narrow part down. But there is always a tendency to gradually restore the symmetry of the ovoid, so that such phenomena are only temporary.

The incessant movement of matter in both the mental and astral bodies is often mentioned. When the astral body, for example, is excited by a sudden experience, all its matter begins to rush about, as if carried away by a hurricane, so that the colors are for a time strongly mixed. However, in the end, due to the special attraction various types of matter that reflects or emits different colors, the general arrangement will be restored and they will be sorted into their usual zones. But even then, matter is not at all at rest, since its particles are constantly rushing through these zones, although they rarely leave their own belt and invade another. But this movement within one's own zone is quite healthy, and one who does not have such movement becomes a mental "shell", incapable of growth until he breaks through this shell. The activity of matter in each specific zone increases in proportion to the amount of thought given to the subject, the expression of which it is.

If a person allows his thought on any topic to enter into stagnation, this stagnation will be accurately reproduced in the matter corresponding to it. If prejudice grows in a person, thinking on this topic completely stops, and a small whirlpool forms in the mental body, in which mental matter goes around and around until it thickens, turning into something like a wart. And until it is worn out or forcibly eradicated, a person will not be able to use this part of the mental body, and is incapable of rational thinking on this issue. This corrupted thickened mass blocks all free movement both inward and outward; on the one hand, it does not allow a person to see accurately or receive reliable new impressions on this issue, and on the other hand, to send any clear thought concerning it.

Such sore spots on the mental body are, unfortunately, also centers of infection - the inability to see clearly grows and spreads. If one part of the mental body is already stagnant, then it is likely to affect other parts as well; if a person allows himself to have prejudices on one subject, it is likely that he will soon develop them on others, because the healthy flow of mental matter has ceased, and a habit of untruth has formed. Religious prejudices are the most widespread and the most serious of all, they completely suppress any attempt at a reasonable approach to the subject. Unfortunately, in a very large number of people, the entire part of the mental body that should be occupied with religious questions is inactive, ossified and covered with warts, so that even the most rudimentary ideas about what religion really is is completely impossible for them, until some catastrophic change occurs.

The "Visible and Invisible Man" contains drawings of the astral bodies of people of religious and scientific types. Variants of these types that we often encounter are the intuitive man and the man of facts. The latter usually has a lot of yellow in the mental body, and the stripes different colors regular. He has much less emotion and imagination than the intuitive, and therefore in some respects less strength and enthusiasm, but on the other hand, he is less prone to error, and everything he does is usually done carefully and well. In the vehicle of the intuitive man, there is much more blue, but the colors are usually vague, and the body itself is poorly ordered. He suffers much more than the other, more stable type, but sometimes through this suffering he can make rapid progress. Of course, in the perfect man, both burning with enthusiasm and orderliness with stability have their place; It's just a matter of what comes first.

Mystical thinking and the presence of psychic abilities are indicated by those colors for which we have no equivalents on the physical plane. When a man begins to develop in the occult direction, his whole mental body must be rapidly cleansed and thoroughly put into order and working condition, for every part of it will be required, and all of them must give the maximum possible if he is to make real progress. It is extremely necessary that he be able to create strong and clear thought forms, and in addition to this he will be greatly helped and encouraged by the ability to see them clearly. These two things should not be confused - one person may be able to create a stronger and clearer thought than another, but not be able to visualize it as well. The formation of a thought is a direct act of the will acting through the mental body; visualization is simply the ability to see the created form through clairvoyance. As soon as a person thinks strongly about any object, its image immediately appears in the mental body - regardless of whether he can see it or not.

It must be remembered that all mental work carried out on the physical plane must be done through the physical brain, so that to succeed in this it is necessary not only to develop the mental body, but also to put the brain in order so that the mental body can easily work through it. It is well known that certain parts of the brain are associated with certain qualities of a person and his abilities for one or another direction of thinking, and therefore all this must be put in order and brought into line with the zones of the mental body.

Another point, and the most significant, is that one more connection must be created and maintained - between the "I" and the mental body; for the "I" is the power to which all these faculties and qualities belong, and which uses them. In order for us to think about something, we must first remember it; in order to remember, we must pay attention to it, and this is the descent of the "I" into its vehicles in order to look through them. Many people with beautiful mental bodies and good brains make little use of them because they pay little attention to life - that is, their "I" lowers only a little of itself into these lower planes, and the vehicles are left to frolic as they please. Elsewhere I have written about a remedy for this state of affairs, and in short the advice is this: give the ego the conditions it desires, and it will at once descend more fully to take advantage of them. If it wants to develop love, give it that opportunity, cultivating it as much as possible on these lower planes, and the "I" will immediately respond. If it desires wisdom in the main, study and try to become wiser on the physical plane, and it will again appreciate your efforts and will be happy to cooperate. Find out what it wants and give it to it and you won't have any reason to complain about its response.

A force that is neglected

People who have not undertaken a special study of this subject will never understand what great power lies in thought. The forces of steam and water are real to them because they can see them in action, but the power of thought is something vague, dark and intangible to them. Yet those who have taken the trouble to look into the essence of the subject know very well that it is as real as any other.

This is true in two senses - direct and indirect. Everyone, when this happens to him, recognizes the indirect action of thought, since it is obvious that a person must think before he can do anything, and thought here will be the driving force of his action, just as water sets in motion a mill. But people usually do not know that thought acts directly on matter, and that regardless of whether a person puts his thought into action or not, the thought itself already produces its effect.

Our readers are already aware that there are many kinds of matter that are finer than what is visible to the physical eye, and that the power of human thought directly acts on some of them, setting them in motion. Thought manifests itself as a vibration in the mental body of a person, this vibration is transmitted to external matter, and thus the effect is produced. Therefore, thought itself is a real and definite force, and what is of great interest here is that each of us possesses it. A relatively small number of rich people have concentrated in their hands the steam and electric energy of the world; you have to pay money to use it, and therefore for many it is inaccessible. But there is a power that is already in the hands of everyone, rich and poor, young and old, and all we need to do is learn how to use it. In fact, we all use it to some extent right now, but because we do not understand it, we often unconsciously harm ourselves and others instead of benefiting from it.

In the book Thought Forms it is explained that thought produces two main external effects - radiated vibration and floating form. Let us see how they affect the thinker himself and others.

The first thing to remember is the power of habit. If we accustom our mental bodies to a certain type of vibration, they will learn to reproduce it easily and willingly. If we allow ourselves a certain type of thought today, it will be noticeably easier to think about it tomorrow. If a person allows himself to think badly of others, it soon becomes easy for him, and it is difficult to think well. Ridiculous prejudices arise from this, which make a man absolutely blind to the good sides of his fellow men, and magnify in his eyes all their bad sides extraordinarily.

Then thoughts begin to arouse his emotions; seeing only the bad in others, he begins to hate them. Vibrations of mental matter also excite vibrations of denser, astral matter, just as the wind excites the surface of the sea. We all know that a person, thinking about what he considers offensive to himself, can easily get angry, but we seem to often forget the inevitable correspondence of this - that by thinking calmly and reasonably, anger can be prevented or dissipated.

Another effect on the thinker is the thought-form that he creates. If the thought is aimed at someone else, then the form flies like a rocket towards this person, but if the thought (as is so often the case) is connected mainly with the thinker himself, the form floats near him, always ready to act on him and reproduce itself - that is, more evoke the same thought in his mind. The person will feel as if it has been thrown into his mind from outside, while it is nothing but the mechanical result of his former thought.

Now let's see how we can use this piece of knowledge. It is obvious that every thought or emotion has a lasting effect, because it strengthens or weakens some tendency; moreover, it constantly affects the thinker. Therefore, it is clear that what thoughts and emotions we allow to arise in ourselves must be treated with the greatest attention. We must not justify ourselves, as so many do, by saying that unwanted feelings are natural under certain circumstances; we must assert our prerogative as the rulers of this realm of our mind and emotions. If we can become accustomed to evil thoughts, then it should be just as possible to get ourselves into the habit of good thoughts. We can learn to look for desirable rather than undesirable qualities in the people we meet; and it will surprise us how numerous and important the desirable qualities we find will be. In this way, we will begin to like these people instead of disliking them, and it will at least be possible that our assessment of them will at least somehow come close to being fair.

We can give ourselves good and kind thoughts as an exercise, and if we do this, we will begin to notice the results of this practice very soon. Our mind will begin to move more easily in the direction of admiration and due appreciation than in the rut of suspicion and neglect; and when the brain is not occupied, good thoughts will appear instead of bad ones, because they will be the result of the action of benevolent forms with which we have so carefully surrounded ourselves. "As a man thinks in his heart, so he is," and it is obvious that the systematic use of the power of thought will make our life much easier and more enjoyable.

Now let's see how our thought affects others. Radiated vibrations, like many other vibrations in nature, tend to reproduce themselves. Place the item in front of the fire and it will soon become hot. Why? Because the radiation of rapid vibrations, emanating from the red-hot matter in the fireplace, led to a faster vibration and the molecules of this object. In the same way, if we constantly pour vibrations of good thoughts on another person, we will in time arouse in him a similar vibration of good thoughts. And the thought forms directed towards him will hover around him and have a beneficial effect on him when the opportunity presents itself. Just as an evil thought can be a tempting demon for both the thinker and the other person, so their good thought can become a true guardian angel, encouraging virtues and driving away vices.

Obnoxious attitude towards others and the desire to find fault in them has unfortunately become common in our day, and those who have adopted it never seem to realize the harm they cause. If we study its results, we will see that the prevailing habit of unkind gossip is a definite evil. It doesn't matter if there is any basis for them; either way, they can't help but cause harm. Let's say there are a few people fixing their minds on the perceived bad quality of another person, and bringing it to the attention of many who otherwise would never have had the idea. Suppose they accuse their victim of jealousy. Several hundred people immediately begin to pour out streams of thoughts on this unfortunate victim, throwing up the idea of jealousy. Isn't it obvious that if this poor fellow has any inclination towards this unpleasant quality, it cannot but be increased by this watering to a great extent? And if, as usually happens, there is no basis at all for this malicious rumor, then those who are so willing to spread it do everything possible to create in a person that very vice, about the imaginary presence of which they gloat so wildly.

Think of your friends in every possible way, but think of their good sides - not only because it is healthier for you, but also because it strengthens them. When you have to admit some bad quality in a friend, try not to think about him, but on the contrary, think about the opposite virtue that you would like to develop in him. If it turns out that he is stingy, or he lacks love, carefully avoid gossip about it, or even focusing your thoughts on it, because otherwise the vibration you sent will further worsen the matter. Instead, think as hard as you can about the quality that he needs, fill him with vibrations of generosity and love, for in this way you will really help your brother.

Use your thought power in this way, and in your corner of the world you will become a true center of blessing. But remember that you have only a limited amount of this power, and if you want to have it in abundance, then you must not waste it in vain.

The average person is just a center of excited vibration, all the time in a state of excitement, worry about something, or in a state of deep depression, or overexcited by efforts to grab something. For one reason or another, he is always in a state of unnecessary excitement, and often over the most ordinary trifles. This means that he is constantly wasting his strength, wasting in vain that which he is responsible for the useful use of, that which could make him healthier and happier.

Another way he wastes a huge amount of energy is through unnecessary disputes. He always tries to get someone else to agree with his opinion. He forgets that every question always has several sides - whether it be questions of religion, politics or expediency, and that the other person has every right to his point of view, and anyway, it does not matter, since the facts remain the same as no matter what anyone thinks about. The vast majority of things that people argue over are not worth arguing at all, and those who speak the loudest and most confidently are usually the ones who know the least.

The person who wants to do useful work for himself or for others by the power of thought, must conserve his energies, be calm and philosophical about everything, he must weigh everything before saying or doing anything. But let no one doubt that this power is powerful, and anyone who takes the trouble will be able to learn how to use it and do a lot of good for the world around.

You must understand this power of thought and the duty of suppressing harmful, evil and selfish thoughts. Thoughts will have their effect, whether we like it or not. The wise man produces these results intentionally. Every time you try to control your thoughts, it makes control easier. Sending thoughts to others is as real as sending money, and it is a form of charity available to even the poorest of people. Do not radiate depression, besides, it does not allow higher thoughts to enter. This causes a lot of suffering to sensitive people, and in many respects this is the cause of children's nightly fears. It is wrong, as many do, to cast clouds on young life, allowing bad and pitiful thoughts to darken it. Forget depression, and instead send uplifting thoughts to sick people.

Your thoughts are not solely your own business, as you may have thought, for your vibrations affect others. Evil thoughts reach further than evil words, but they cannot affect a person who is completely free from the quality they carry. For example, a thought containing a desire to drink will not enter the body of a complete teetotaler. It may hit his astral body, but it will not penetrate there, and may then return to the one who sent it.

The will can be trained to act directly on physical matter. An example, perhaps more accessible to your own experience, is this: you will notice that an image, much used for meditation purposes, changes its expression - the physical particles themselves are undoubtedly influenced by a strong and constant thought. Madame Blavatsky taught this to her students, usually advising them to hang a needle on a silk thread and learn to move it with will power. The sculptor also uses the power of thought, but in a completely different way. Seeing a block of marble, he creates a strong thought form of a statue, which he can carve out of it. Then he places this thought-form inside the marble and cuts off everything that is outside the thought-form, leaving only the part that coincides with it.

Make it a practice to set aside a little time each day for good thoughts about other people and send those thoughts to them. This will be an excellent practice for you, and will undoubtedly benefit your "patients" as well.

Impulse and intuition

You ask how to distinguish impulse from intuition. I fully understand your dilemma. At first this is difficult for the disciple, but one can take comfort in the thought that the difficulty is only temporary. As you grow, you will reach a stage where you will be absolutely sure of your intuition, because the difference between it and impulse will become so clear that error is impossible.

However, since both come to the brain from within, at first they seem to be exactly the same, and therefore special attention is required, and it is difficult to come to a decision. Perhaps the following considerations will help you. I have heard Mrs. Besant say that whenever circumstances permit, one should wait a little, because the impulse usually weakens, while time does not affect the intuition. In addition, impulse is almost always accompanied by excitement, there is always something personal in it, so that if it is immediately disobeyed - if something stops it - there is a feeling of indignation, while intuition after a decision is accompanied by a feeling of calm power. . The impulse is a product of the astral body, while intuition is a fragment of knowledge transmitted by impression from the "I" to the personality.

Sometimes a sudden impression does not really come from within, but from without; it can be an offer or a message from someone from higher planes - usually from a dead person who happens to be nearby, or from a departed relative. It would be good to treat these advices in exactly the same way as if they were given on the physical plane - to accept them if they pass the test of our mind, and otherwise not to accept. After all, this person is not necessarily wiser than us just because he died. In this matter, as in all others, we must be guided in our actions by sound common sense, and not rush wildly after dreams and imagination.

At this stage, I would advise you to follow reason when you are sure of the premises from which you are starting. Over time, you will learn from experience whether you can always trust your intuition. The ordinary impulse is born in the astral body, but the true intuition comes directly from the higher mental plane, and sometimes even from the buddhic. Of course, the latter, if you are only sure of it, can be followed without the slightest hesitation, but in this transitional stage that you are now going through, you have to take some risks, either sometimes losing a glimpse of the higher truth due to excessive clinging to reason, or sometimes doing wrong, mistaking impulse for intuition. I myself had such an ingrained fear of the possibility of the latter that I again and again followed reason to the detriment of intuition, and only after repeatedly making sure that a certain type of intuition was always correct, I allowed myself to rely on it completely. You, too, will certainly pass through these successive stages, and you do not need to worry about it at all.

Centers of Thought

At the higher levels of the mental plane, our thoughts act more strongly, since this field is almost completely left to ourselves. There won't be many other thoughts in this area to compete with ours. All people who think the same thing, to some extent enter into rapport with each other. No matter how strong a thought attracts you, you can be influenced by its creator. A strong thought is constantly at work, and will be more likely to act in connection with those subjects of which comparatively few people think, because in these cases the vibrations are better distinguished and can act more freely. Any idea or vision that comes to us all of a sudden may simply be the thought forms of some person who has a keen interest in the subject. He may be at any distance from you, although it is true that closeness on the physical plane facilitates transmission.

There is something like a psychometering of a thought-form. Masses of thought on any topic are quite definite things that occupy a place in space. Thoughts of a similar subject matter or of a similar nature tend to cluster together. On many topics there is a thought center, certain place in the atmosphere, and thoughts on these topics are attracted to the corresponding centers, which absorbs any number of ideas, connected and incoherent, right and wrong. In this center you can find all thoughts on a given topic brought into focus, and then psychometrically various thought forms, trace their authors and obtain other information about them.

It is easy to see that when one thinks of something, even if it is a little difficult, one can attract the thought of a person who has already studied this subject, and even himself, if he is on the astral plane. In the latter case, this person may be both conscious and unconscious. Many people, both dead and sleeping, are trying to help others think in their particular direction; and each of them, seeing that someone is trying to solve some problem, is likely to suggest to him that line of thought that he considers necessary for him. It certainly does not follow from this that his ideas will be correct, and if you think about it, you will see that this is quite natural. After all, you can also help people on the physical plane simply out of good intentions. So it is after death. Without a physical body, you experience the same sympathies, and whether your idea is right or not, you offer it.

Sometimes such an idea may come in symbolic form; for example, snake and elephant are often used to represent wisdom. There are many character sets. Each "I" has its own system of symbolism, although some forms in dreams seem to be common. They say that when you dream of water, it predicts some kind of trouble, although I don’t see any connection here. But even if there really is no connection, "I" (or another being who wants to communicate) can use a symbol that he knows will be understood by the person. Water is not necessarily associated with trouble, but the "I", which cannot convey a clear message to the person, but knows that she believes in this sign about water, may well impress the brain with such a dream if she wants to warn of some impending misfortune. The power of thought and the number of thought forms are extraordinarily enormous, and yet they are so little understood and taken into account.

When any particular idea comes to mind, it could be due to any one of half a dozen things. And I do not know of any method available to an ordinary person by which he could be sure of the source of the idea that struck him. It is necessary to develop astral and mental vision in order to see the thought form and trace from whom it came. It is connected to its creator by vibration.

Offering versions on a case-by-case basis without really knowing what actually happened would be empty speculation. It is quite possible to be exposed to the action of one's own thought-forms. You can create thought-forms about something that will hang around you and persist in proportion to the energy put into them, and they can often act on you as if they were suggestions from outside. In places like Adyar, any newcomer will find himself among many thought-forms floating around, and it is likely that he will rather accept some of them ready-made than take up the trouble of creating new ones. Thought forms must be received with caution. I have seen a man who took completely wrong thought forms and was converted by them, while before that he had a correct opinion. However, sometimes, at the beginning of training, it is useful to try to get in touch with the thought-form, which may have advantages.

On the astral plane there are a great number of thought-forms of a comparatively permanent nature, which are often the cumulative result of the activity of many generations of people. Many of these relate to alleged religious history, and the observation of them is the cause of many quite genuine clairvoyant reports - such as, for example, Anna Katherine Emmerich. She had visions of events related to the Passion of Jesus in every detail exactly as described in the Gospels, including many events known to never have taken place. And yet I have no doubt that the testimony of this clairvoyant is completely genuine - she was not under the influence of a hallucination, but only mistaken in the nature of what she observed.

To read the Akashic records clearly and correctly requires special training; this is not a question of faith and goodness, but a special section of knowledge. And nothing at all indicates that this saint possessed this knowledge - on the contrary, she probably did not hear about such records at all. Therefore, she was most likely completely unable to read the akashic records clearly, and of course, if she happened to see such a record, she would not be able to distinguish it from another type of vision.

In all likelihood, she saw a set of such collectively created thought forms as I have described. All researchers are well aware that every great historical event, on which, as it is believed, much depends, many generations of people constantly think about it, vividly presenting it. For the English, such events may be the signing of the Great Charter by King John, and for the Americans, the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

And all these living images created by people are real things and can be clearly seen by anyone who has at least some mental development. These are certain forms that exist on the mental plane, and wherever strong emotion is associated with them, they are transferred to the astral plane and materialize in astral matter. They are also continually strengthened by all new thoughts whenever they are brought to them. Naturally, different people interpret these scenes differently, and the end result often resembles a photomontage; but the form into which this image was originally cast greatly influences the thoughts of other sensitives about it, and therefore inclines them to imagine in the same way as others did.

This product of thought (often, as you can see, thought of a completely ignorant mind) is much easier to see than the actual recording, since the latter, as we said, requires training, and the former requires nothing more than such a glimpse from the mental plane as often comes to to all pure and high-minded ecstatics. In fact, in many cases even this is not required, since thought-forms also exist on the astral plane.

Another point to be taken into account is that the existence of real scenes is not at all necessary to create such a thought-form. Few events in real history are as strongly depicted in England by the popular imagination as some scenes from the plays of Shakespeare, from Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, and various tales such as Cinderella or Aladdin's Lamp. A clairvoyant who catches a glimpse of one of these collective thoughtforms might easily assume that he has discovered the real events on which the plot is based, but since he knows that these are all fairy tales, he would rather think that he was just dreaming.

And ever since Christianity materialized the majestic conceptions originally conveyed to it, and attempted to represent them in the form of a series of events of human life, pious souls in all countries under its rule have endeavored, as pious exercises, to present all these supposed events so vividly, as soon as possible. As a result, we have been provided with a set of thought-forms of quite exceptional power and significance - a set that cannot fail to attract the attention of any ecstatic whose mind generally lies in this direction. Undoubtedly, Anna Katerina Emerich their saw, as well as many others. But when, in the course of their progress, such clairvoyants pass on to the realities of life, they, as having received the invaluable privilege of being under the guidance of the Masters of Wisdom, will be taught how to distinguish the results of pious but ignorant thinking from the indelible records that are the true memory of nature. Then they will discover that these scenes, to which they paid so much attention, were only symbols of truths that turned out to be higher, wider and grander than they could even dream of even in the higher flights that their beautiful purity and piety made possible for them. .

Thought and elemental essence

The elemental essence, when thought gives form to it, takes on a color that expresses the nature of the thought or feeling. Of course, in reality, this only means that the essence that makes up the form has temporarily made the very thought that animates it vibrate at a certain frequency. The evolution of the elemental essence is to learn to respond to all possible vibrational frequencies. Therefore, when a thought keeps a vibration at a certain frequency for a while, it is somewhat beneficial to the elemental essence, as it gets used to this frequency of vibrations, so that the next time it comes within range of vibrations of the same frequency, it will respond to them much more easily. than before.

Soon the atoms of the essence, again returning to its main mass, will again be captured by some other thought - then they will learn to vibrate with a completely different frequency, thus developing a little, acquiring the ability to respond to a different type of vibration. Thus, slowly and gradually, thoughts - not only the thoughts of men, but also of nature spirits and devas, and even of animals - insofar as they are capable of thinking at all - develop the elemental essence surrounding them, teaching a few atoms here and there to respond to this or that vibrational frequency, until finally a stage is reached when all particles of this essence are not ready at any moment to respond to any frequency of vibration, which will be the completion of their evolution.

It is for this reason that the occultist, whenever possible, avoids the destruction of an artificial elemental, even when the latter is of a malefic character, preferring rather to protect himself or others from it by means of a sheath. An artificial elemental can be instantly dispelled by an effort of will, just as it can be killed on the physical plane. poisonous snake so that she does no more harm; but such behavior will not be laudable for an occultist except under exceptional circumstances.

Whether the animating thought is evil or good - for the essence there is no difference; all that is required for its development is to be used by some thought. The difference between good and evil is seen in the quality of the essence involved - an evil thought or desire requires coarser or denser matter for its proper expression, while a higher thought will require a correspondingly finer and more rapidly vibrating matter. There are many undeveloped people whose thoughts are always base and coarse, and their very ignorance and coarseness are used by the great Law as evolutionary forces that help at a certain stage of work. But we, having learned a little more than they, should strive so that our thoughts are always high and holy - and helping the evolution of a finer type of elemental matter, thus working in the field in which workers are still so few.

When we come to the study of reincarnation, we shall see what great vital significance this fact has.

The type of mental body that a person forms on his way to a new incarnation will fully correspond to the stage of evolution reached by a person, and we will now begin - as we did with regard to the astral body - to study the mental bodies corresponding to three types of a person: A) undeveloped, B) average, B) spiritually awakened.

A

In an undeveloped man the mental body is only barely noticeable; it consists of a small amount of unorganized mental matter, mainly of its lower types - that's all it is at this stage. It is set in motion almost exclusively by influences coming from the lower bodies, vibrating weakly under the influence of astral disturbances arising from contact with material objects through the sense organs.

Unexcited by astral vibrations, the mental body remains almost completely at rest, but even in response to their violent shocks, its vibrations remain slow and lazy. He has no definite activity within him, and these strong blows from outside are necessary to awaken in him any definite response. The stronger the blows, the better for the growth of a person, because each response vibration helps to develop the rudimentary mental body.

Noisy pleasures, anger, fury, pain, horror - all these passions, producing whirlwinds in the astral body, awaken weak vibrations in the mental body, and it is these vibrations that awaken the mental consciousness to activity, forcing it to add something of itself to the impressions that go to him from outside.

We have seen that the mental body is so closely connected with the astral that they act as a single body, but the nascent mental faculties give to the astral passions a certain power and quality which they do not have as long as they act as purely animal properties. The impressions received by the mental body are more permanent than the astral impressions, and moreover, they are capable of being consciously reproduced by it. With this comes memory and imagination; the latter is cast gradually into a certain form as the images of the external world act on the matter of the mental body and form its particles in their own image and likeness. These images, arising from contact with the sense organs, gather around themselves the grossest mental matter; the nascent forces of consciousness reproduce these images, and in this way a store of pictures is built up, which begin to evoke actions initiated by the desire to re-experience those vibrations that gave pleasure and avoid those that caused pain.

Having reached this property, the mental body begins to act on the astral and awakens in it desires that are dormant in the animal until one or another physical stimulus awakens them. Therefore, in an undeveloped man there appears such an insatiable thirst for sensual pleasures, which does not exist in the animal world, such lusts, such calculated cruelty, which are completely alien to unreasoning animals. The awakening forces of the mind, enslaved by the senses, make of a man a much more dangerous and wild animal than all animals, and the more powerful and more refined forces inherent in the mental spirit-matter give the nature of passions an energy and sharpness that are not found in the animal world. But these same excesses also lead to their necessary correction through the suffering they cause, and the same experiences arising from this act on the consciousness and give rise to new images, on which the imagination in turn works.

These images force the consciousness to resist the series of vibrations that reach it through the astral body from the external world and to exercise the will in holding the passions, instead of submitting to them. Such vibrations of resistance draw to the mental body the finer compounds of mental matter, and at the same time contribute to the expulsion of the grosser compounds which vibrate easily in response to the passionate excitations arising in the astral body.

Due to this struggle between the vibrations created by the images of passion and the vibrations created by the imaginative reproduction of experienced experiences, the mental body grows, a certain organization of it begins to develop and more and more initiative regarding external activity appears.

While the purpose of earthly life is to accumulate experiences, the meaning of the intermediate life between death and a new birth is to translate these experiences into individual properties, as we will see in the next chapter: thanks to this, with each new return to earth, the Thinker brings with him an ever-increasing supply of abilities, which are embodied in his new mental body. Thus the undeveloped man, whose mind is in bondage to the passions, rises to the next step, and his mind becomes a battlefield in which the passions and intellectual forces fight with intermittent success; sometimes hesitating, sometimes giving in to them, a person gradually acquires power over his lower nature.

B

In an average person, the mental body increases in volume, already shows a certain degree of organization and contains a significant amount of matter belonging to the second, third and fourth subdivisions of the mental sphere. The general law governing all construction and all modifications of the mental body is based on the same principle that operates in the lower regions of the astral and physical worlds; exercise strengthens and perfects, inaction atrophies and finally destroys.

Each vibration that arises in the mental body produces a change in its composition, throwing out from the part affected by the vibration that matter that cannot vibrate in response, and replacing it with the corresponding materials that are in unlimited quantities around. The more often the same vibrations are repeated, the more the part of the mental body affected by them develops; hence, we note in passing, comes the harm done to the mental body by the excessive specialization of the mental forces. From such a one-sided expenditure of these forces comes a one-sided development of the mental body: it becomes correspondingly overdeveloped in the area where these forces are constantly active, and just as underdeveloped in other parts, no less important. It is necessary to achieve a harmonious and holistic overall development, and this requires calm introspection and clearly set goals for self-development. Knowledge of this law elucidates some experiences that are well known to many, and gives confidence in the future.

When we begin to explore a new field or think about changing our behavior for the better, at first we encounter obstacles that seem insurmountable and often cause a person to retreat from the goal. This happens because at the beginning of an unusual spiritual tension, all the work of the mental body that has already become habitual, all its automatism, begins to counteract us, as it were; a substance that usually vibrates in a certain way cannot yet adapt itself to new impulses. And the first attempts usually consist in creating new vibrations, which are all overcome by the automatism of the mental body, which is the necessary preliminary preparation for the appearance of response vibrations; for at the same time, old materials are thrown out of the mental body and new ones are introduced, corresponding to the new work of consciousness. During this preparatory process, a person does not notice any progress and is aware only of the futility of his efforts and the stubborn resistance within himself. If he continues his efforts, he will soon notice great success, for the new constituent particles introduced into the mental body have already begun to act; and finally, when all the old materials are replaced by new ones, he will feel that he succeeds without difficulty and that his goal has been achieved.

It is difficult only at the first step, but if he believes in a law that is as unshakable in its operation as all the other laws of nature, and if he perseveres in his efforts, he will inevitably succeed, and the knowledge of the law will keep him cheerful and faith. into yourself.

Thus the middle-level man can work on himself, finding with joy that he is successfully resisting the onslaughts of the lower nature and that the latter is losing its power over him as he expels from his mental body all particles capable of responding to its vibrations. In this way the composition of the mental body is more and more perfected, the finest constituents of the four lower divisions of the mental sphere are introduced into it, until it acquires that radiant and beautiful form that distinguishes the body.

IN

In a spiritually developed person, all the coarser connections have already been removed from this body, so that sensible objects do not find in it, nor in the astral body closely associated with it, the appropriate materials capable of vibrating sympathetically in response to their vibrations. This body consists of the finest compounds that are part of the four divisions of the lower mental world, with a large predominance of materials from the third and fourth divisions, more perfect in composition than the second and first; thanks to this, the mental body becomes responsive to higher intellectual manifestations, to subtle vibrations coming from the beauty embodied in art, to all pure vibrations of higher emotions.

Such a mental body enables the Thinker, clothed in it, to manifest itself much more fully in all three worlds; due to the fact that it is organized from materials inherent in both the mental and astral and physical worlds, after the vibrations available to it, it expands greatly, and the influences that reach it from a higher world region form it into a nobler and more subtle organization. Such a body gradually becomes a perfect instrument of activity in the lower mental sphere and responds easily to every impulse emanating from the Thinker.

A clear understanding of the nature of the mental body would change modern education in many ways and make it the best assistant for the Thinker.

General properties"thought bodies" depend on the Thinker's past lives on earth, as will become clear in the study of reincarnation and karma. The mental body is organized in the mental sphere, and the materials from which it is built depend on those qualities that the Thinker has collected within himself as a result of his past experiences. All that education can do is to furnish such stimuli as may help to increase those already present. useful properties, and on the other hand, the eradication of those properties that are undesirable. The development of innate qualities, and not the cluttering of the mind with a mass of facts - this is the goal of true education; the attitude to memory as a separate ability is wrong, because memory depends on attention, i.e., on the constant concentration of thought on the subject being studied and on the natural affinity between the subject and the mind. If the subject pleases, in other words, if the mind has an inclination towards it, there will be no lack of memory, assuming that the necessary attention will be applied. Therefore, education should take a long time to develop the habit of concentration and constant attention and should be directed according to the innate abilities of the pupil.

Let us now move on to the subdivisions of the mental sphere, which we have called “without form”, to that area that is the true homeland of a person during all the time of his reincarnations, in which he will be born as a baby soul, as an infant Ego, as a deposit of individuality, when his purely human evolution.

The outer outline of the Ego or the Thinker is oval; that's why

H. P. Blavatsky speaks of the mental body, which persists throughout all incarnations, as an "auric egg." Composed of the matter of the three higher subdivisions of the mental sphere, it is extremely transparent and gentle and is a shell that is distinguished by extraordinary subtlety even when it arises; as it develops, it takes on a radiant appearance of unearthly beauty, which gave it the name "Luminary".

What is a Thinker? This is the divine Self, as already mentioned, limited and individualized by this subtle body, the materials for which are extracted from the higher divisions of the mental sphere. This matter, enveloping the ray of the Divine Self, the living ray of the One Light and the One Life of the universe, separates this ray from its Source, encloses it inside the thinnest shell of its substance and thus makes it an “individuality”.

Life itself is the life of the Logos, but all the forces of this life remain hidden, unmanifested; everything here is in the possibility, in the deposit, just as the tree is hidden in the microscopic germinal point in the grain. This seed descends into the soil of human life, so that its hidden forces, under the influence of the light of joy and the rain of tears, come into a state of activity and feed on those juices that we call trials, until the germ grows into a mighty tree, into an image and the likeness of the Lord who conceived him.

Human evolution is the evolution of the Thinker; he puts on in the lower mental, in the astral and in the physical spheres in his bodies; wears them out in the course of earthly, astral and lower mental life, discards them successively at each step life cycle, passing from one world to another, but all the time retains within himself the fruits that he has collected with the help of these bodies in each of the three worlds. At first as unconscious as an infant in his earthly body, he slumbered from life to life, until the trials that acted on him from without awakened to activity some of his latent powers; gradually he took more and more part in the arrangement of his life, until, having reached adulthood, he took his whole life into his own hands and assumed ever-increasing responsibility for his future destiny.

The growth of the abiding body (corps causal), which together with the divine consciousness forms the Thinker, is exceedingly slow. Its technical name is "the conductor of the law of causality" because it collects within itself the results of all experiences experienced, and these latter act as causes that create future lives. This body alone is preserved among the rest of the bodies of man, which act as vehicles during the various incarnations; mental, astral and physical bodies are built again for each new life; as each of them dies, it transfers the whole harvest of life to the body that follows it, and thus all the results of life are accumulated at the end in one "indwelling" body (corps causal).

When the Thinker returns to a new incarnation, he sends out his forces, created from all the experienced experience, successively into the mental, astral and physical worlds and takes on one body after another, according to his manifestations in the past. The growth of the "indwelling body" itself, as said, is very slow, for it can only vibrate in response to influences that are able to express themselves only in the finest substance of which it itself consists, thus weaving them into the very fabric of its being. Therefore the passions, which play such a great part in the early stages of human evolution, cannot directly influence his growth. The thinker can process in himself only those experiences that can be reproduced in the vibrations of the “staying body” (corps causal), and the latter must belong to the mental region and be either highly intellectual or highly moral in nature, otherwise the subtle substance of this body is not able to vibrate in response to them.

It is not difficult, reflecting on this, to see how little the ordinary man, in his ordinary life, can provide with materials suitable for the growth of his higher body; hence the slowness of evolution and the small successes of mankind. When the Thinker brings much of himself into every successive life, then the evolution of man advances rapidly. Persistence in bad life paths acts indirectly on the "resident body" and does more harm than mere retardation of growth; too long perseverance even causes an inability to respond to the vibrations created by opposing good principles, and thus there is a prolonged stunting of growth even after a person has abandoned evil. To directly harm the "abideant body" requires an evil of a highly intelligent and refined kind, that "spiritual evil" that is mentioned in various scriptures of world religions. This happens, fortunately, very rarely, as rarely as spiritual goodness, and is found only among highly developed souls, whether they follow the right or the left Path.

The Right or White Path is that which leads to the stage of the Adept who has dedicated himself to the service of the world; The Left or Black Path is the one that also leads to the Adept, but one that destroys the fruits of evolution and strives for personal egoistic goals.

The abode of the Thinker, the Eternal Man, is in the fifth subdivision of the mental sphere. Most of humanity is here, barely awakened, still in its infancy. The Thinker develops his consciousness slowly, as his energy, acting in the lower worlds, collects there various experiences, which it absorbs into itself in order to return to the Thinker laden with the precious harvest of life. This Eternal Man, the individualized Divine Self, is the actor in every body in which he is clothed; it is his presence that gives this feeling of "I" equally to the body and soul, that "I" which, being self-conscious, deceptively identifies itself with that of the sheaths in which it acts most energetically. For the sensuous man, his Self merges with the physical body and with the nature of desire; from them he draws his joys and thinks of himself and them as one, for his whole life is in them. For the scientist, his I is contained in the mind, because all the joys of the scientist flow from the activity of the latter, and his whole life is concentrated in it. And only a few can rise to the abstract heights of spiritual philosophy and feel the Eternal Man as their true "I", endowed with a memory capable of embracing all past lives, and a hope that is able to embrace all future births.

Physiologists tell us that if we cut off a finger, we feel pain not at all where the blood appeared, - in fact, we feel it in the brain, and only with the help of imagination is it transferred to the place of the cut; the sensation of pain in the finger, they say, is only an illusion; it is applied by imagination to the point of contact with the object that caused the damage; in the same way, a person with a severed member will feel pain in this member, or rather in the space that was occupied by the amputated member. Similarly, the single “I”, the Inner Man, feeling pain and pleasure at the points of contact of the shells that envelop him with the outside world, begins to take the shell for himself, not realizing that this feeling is an illusion, that he is a single actor in all bodies. their own.

We will now explore, in this light, the relationship between the higher and lower minds and the effects of both on the brain. Manas, the Mind, the Thinker is one, and he is the true Self in the "indwelling body"; he is the source of incalculable energies, vibrations of infinite variety. He sends out these vibrations, radiating them in all directions from himself. The most subtle and tender of them find their expression in the higher, "indwelling body," which alone is subtle enough to respond to them; they form what we call Pure Reason, whose thoughts are abstract, and whose method of knowing is intuition; his very nature is knowledge, and he recognizes the truth at once, as akin to himself.

The less subtle vibrations go beyond the "abide- ing body" attracting the matter of the lower mental realm, and these vibrations are what we know as the lower Manas or lesser mind, in other words, the grosser energies of the higher mind expressed in denser matter; It is these vibrations that we call intellect, which includes judgment, inference, imagination, comparison, etc. mental capacity; he creates concrete thoughts, and his method is logic; he proves, argues, draws conclusions. Its vibrations, acting through astral matter on the etheric brain, and hence on the dense physical brain, cause vibrations in the latter, which are heavy and slow reproductions of the vibrations of the mind - heavy and slow because their energy loses much of its speed, setting particles in action. heavier matter. This weakening of the response, when the vibration begins in a rarefied medium and then passes into a denser one, is known to all students of physics. Strike a bell in air and it will sound clear, and the same sound produced in a hydrogen-filled environment will give the weakest result. The brain reacts just as weakly in response to quick and subtle vibrations of thought; nevertheless, this is all that most people know as their "consciousness".

The great importance of the activity of this “consciousness” lies in the fact that it is the only vehicle through which the Thinker can collect the experience necessary for his growth. As long as it is subject to the passions, it acts disorderly; and the Thinker remains without food and, consequently, stops in his development; so long as it is entirely occupied with mental activities concerning the external world, it can only awaken the lower powers of the Thinker, and only when the latter becomes able to imprint on the consciousness the true purpose of life, then begins the most valuable work of collecting everything that can awaken and nourish his higher powers. As the Thinker develops, he becomes more and more aware of the forces inherent in him and the work of his energies in the lower worlds, as well as the bodies with which these energies surrounded him. In the end, he begins to try his influence over them, guided by the memory of the past to direct his will; these influences we call "conscience" when it comes to morality, and "flashes of intuition" when they enlighten the intellect. If these latter are so constant that they become normal, we call their totality "genius". The higher evolution of the Thinker is distinguished by his increasingly growing control over the lower vehicles of consciousness, the increasing responsiveness of the latter to his influences and their growing assistance in favor of accelerating his growth.

All who wish to consciously help their evolution can achieve this through a careful culture of their thoughts and their moral character, through sustained and well-directed efforts. The habit of calm, restrained, and consistent thought directed to supra-personal subjects, the habit of meditation and serious study, develops the "body of thought" and makes it a more perfect instrument. Efforts to develop abstract thinking are also useful, for they raise the lower mind to the higher and introduce into it the most subtle materials from the lower mental realm. In these and other similar ways, all can actively contribute to their higher evolution, since each step forward hastens the subsequent movement. No effort, even the weakest, is lost, but is accompanied by corresponding consequences, and each new experience is added to the treasury of the "abide- ing body" (corps causal) for future use. Thus the evolution of consciousness, however slow and full of halts, nevertheless moves forward relentlessly, and the divine life, never ceasing to unfold within every soul, slowly subjugates all that exists.

Notes:

Hence His name "Lord of Maya"; in some Eastern sacred books, Maua or illusion is recognized as the principle of form; form is recognized as illusory, due to its transient nature and eternal transformations, while Life, seeking expression for itself under the cover various forms, is recognized as a reality.

The reader may be more likely to understand our presentation if he thinks of the atoms of the 5th sphere as Atma, the atoms of the 4th sphere as Atma enclosed in the matter of Buddhi; atoms of the 3rd sphere as Atma enclosed in the matter of Buddhi and Manas; atoms of the 2nd sphere as Atma clothed in matter Buddhi - Manas - Kama; the atoms of the lowest sphere as Atma clothed in the matter of Buddhi - Manas - Kama and Sthula. Only the outer atoms are active, but the inner also remains there, although hidden, ready to enter into active manifestation when the evolutionary process begins to ascend along the Ascending line.

These are the “Arupa and Rupa Devas” of the Hindus and Buddhists, the “Lords of heaven and earth” of the followers of Zoroaster, the Archangels and Angels of Christians and Mohammedans.

These bodies are usually called Mayavi Rupa, or bodies of illusion, when they are created for independent activity in the mental sphere.

So the theosophist uses the expression "Kama-Manas", implying that thought works simultaneously with the passionate beginning of a person, with his "body of desire", being influenced by animal nature. The follower of Vedanta classifies both bodies or both principles in the same category and speaks of the Ego, the higher Self, manifested through manomayokosha, a sheath that connects both the lower rational principle and the principle of passions and emotions. The European psychologist establishes "feelings" as part of the "soul" and by feeling he understands both emotions and sensations.

Counting from below, first arūpa (no subplan form)

The mental realm, as its very name already indicates, is the realm of consciousness working as thought; it is the realm of the mind, not that which manifests itself through the brain, but that which operates freely in its own world, not constrained by physical matter. This world is the birthplace of the true man. The English word "man" (man) comes from the Sanskrit root "man", which in turn is the root of the Sanskrit verb meaning to think, so "man" literally means a thinker, and this name carries the most characteristic sign of a person - - reasonableness. In English, the word mind expresses at the same time the rational consciousness as such, and the actions caused in the physical brain by the vibrations of this consciousness. But in further investigation, we must take the mind for a certain essence, for an individuality, whose life is manifested by vibrations; the latter are thoughts, and these thoughts are images, not words. This individuality is Manas or the Thinker [Derived from Manas; the technical expression "manasic plane" is translated by the English as "mental"]. He is the Self, Ego (Self), enclosed in the matter of the higher divisions of the mental sphere and working under the conditions imposed by the matter of this sphere. Its presence in the physical sphere is expressed by the vibrations it causes in the brain and in the nervous system; the latter respond to the trembling of his life with reciprocal vibrations, but, due to the coarseness of their materials, they can reproduce only a small part of all his vibrations, and, moreover, very imperfectly.

Just as science recognizes the existence of vast series of ethereal vibrations, of which only a small amount (the solar light spectrum) can be perceived by the eye, which can vibrate only within limited limits, so the physical apparatus of thought - the brain and nervous system - can perceive only a small part of a vast series of vibrations which are set in motion by the "Thinker" in his own sphere. The most developed brain responds to this series of vibrations only up to the point which we call "great intellectual power"; the exceptionally receptive brain responds to the point we call "genius"; the exceptionally unreceptive brain responds only to the point we call "idiocy." But whatever qualities the brain possesses, millions of thought-waves rush at it without interruption, to which it cannot respond, thanks to the density of the material of which it is composed, and the so-called mental powers of each of us fully correspond to the sensitivity of our transmission apparatus - brain. But before studying the Thinker, one should get acquainted with his world, with the mental sphere itself.

The mental sphere, closest to the astral, is separated from it only by the difference of the matter of which it is composed; just as the astral realm separates from the physical. Indeed, we can say exactly the same about the relation of the mental to the astral that we have already said about the relation of the astral to the physical. Life in the mental sphere is more active than in the astral one, and its forms are more plastic. The spirit-matter of this sphere is much more animated and more refined than the highest matter of the astral sphere. The primary atom of astral matter is surrounded by innumerable aggregates of the densest mental matter; thus, in the dissolution of the astral atom, a large amount of mental matter of a lower type is liberated. Under these conditions, i.e. due to the fact that the density of the matter set in motion decreases, it is natural that the manifestation vitality in this area increases immeasurably in terms of activity.

Mental matter is in constant perpetual motion: it assumes a certain form under the influence of every slightest trembling of life, and easily adapts itself to every movement that changes it. The "matter of thought," as it has been called, makes astral matter appear clumsy, heavy, and dull, although in comparison with physical matter it seemed so magically transparent and light. But the law of analogy is immutable, and it will be for us a guiding thread in this supra-astral region, which is truly our homeland, although we, prisoners in a foreign country, do not know it and treat its description as if we were an unknown country.

Just as in the physical and astral spheres, so in the mental sphere there are seven divisions of spirit-matter. And these varieties of matter enter into the same countless combinations of various shades of complexity, forming solid and liquid compounds, gases and ethers of the mental sphere. The word "solid" seems absurd when we speak of even the most condensed forms of matter of thought; nevertheless, having no other words than those that correspond to the physical conditions of being, we are forced to call them so because of their comparative density. It suffices if we learn that this sphere also follows the same general law and order of nature, which is the sevenfold basis for our globe, and that the seven divisions of mental matter represent a relative and gradually decreasing density as solid, liquid, gaseous and ethereal compositions on earth, and the seventh or higher division consists exclusively of the primary mental atoms.

These seven subdivisions are in turn divided into two divisions, which were given the incomprehensible at first glance name "without form" and "having form" [Arura - without form, Rupa - form]. The four subdivisions are grouped together as "formed," another group is represented by the three higher subdivisions, the fifth, sixth, and seventh, which have in common the absence of form. This grouping is necessary because the difference is quite real, though difficult to describe, and in human consciousness it corresponds to divisions in the mind itself, as we shall see later.

This distinction may perhaps be best clarified if we say that in the four lower divisions the vibrations of consciousness create forms, images, pictures, so that every thought appears as a living image, while in the three higher divisions, although consciousness continues to give rise to vibrations, it sends them rather like a mighty stream vital energy; the latter is not clothed in definite images while it remains in these higher regions, but immediately, as soon as it is transferred to the lower regions, it creates a variety of forms connected with each other by some common condition.

The closest analogy for the thought I am trying to express is abstract and concrete thoughts, for example, the abstract thought of a triangle has no form, but includes all figures bounded by three straight lines, the angles of which make two right angles; such an idea, with conditions contained in it, but without form, thrown into the lower world, can give life to a vast variety of figures - rectangular, isosceles, versatile, of various sizes and colors, but all corresponding to the conditions of a particular triangle, each with its own definite outline.

The impossibility of giving in words a clear idea of how differently consciousness acts in the realm of the concrete and in the realm of the abstract depends on the fact that words are symbols of images; they belong to the area of the small mind, which manifests itself with the help of the brain and is entirely based on its efficiency; while the "formless" region belongs to Pure Reason, which never manifests itself within the narrow confines of human speech.

The mental sphere serves as a reflection for the World Consciousness in nature, and it also corresponds in our small system to the Great Mind of the entire Cosmos. In its higher regions there are all the archetypes of ideas which are now on the path of concrete evolution; these ideas are realized in its lower regions in successive forms, which are then reproduced exactly in the astral and physical worlds.

The matter of this sphere is capable of combining in the most varied ways under the influence of the vibrations of thought, it can bring to life any combination that thought can create; just as a shovel for tilling the earth and a sword for battle can be made of iron, so also mental matter can be turned into thought-images that bring either benefit or harm. The vibrating life of the Thinker forms mental materials around him, and according to his desires, the work of thought takes place. In this realm, thought and action, will and fulfillment are one and the same: spirit-matter is here the obedient servant of life, adapting itself to every creative movement.

These vibrations, which create thought-images out of mental matter, also give rise - due to their speed and subtlety - to unusually beautiful and graceful, ever-changing colors, waves of iridescent shades, similar to the iridescent play on a mother-of-pearl surface, airy and bright in an indescribable degree. earthly impressions; these waves sweep through all forms in such a way that each of them is a harmony of flowing, living, luminous, delicate colors, many of which are even unknown on earth. No words can convey the graceful beauty and radiance that manifests itself in the combinations of this subtle matter, imbued with life and movement. Every clairvoyant who has ever beheld her—Hindu, Buddhist, or Christian—all speak in enthusiastic terms of her radiant beauty, and are conscious of the utter impotence of earthly words to describe her. Words can only give a crude and distorted concept, however beautifully they may be composed to glorify her.

Among living beings acting in the mental sphere, thought-images undoubtedly play an important role. They are similar to those thought-images that we have already recognized in the astral sphere, with the difference that they are much lighter and brighter in color, that they are stronger, their existence is longer and they have more vital energy. The more definite the higher mental qualities of a person become, the sharper the external outlines of his thought-images become, and in them a tendency to the amazing perfection of geometric constructions, combined with the amazing purity of luminous colors, is noticed. It is superfluous to add that at the present stage of humanity, ordinary, indefinitely constructed thought-images, the creations of the ill-bred minds of the majority, predominate. Artistic thoughts of rare beauty are also found here, and it is not surprising that artists who catch a glimpse of the perfection of their ideal in their dreams are tormented by the impossibility of reproducing its radiant beauty with dull earthly colors.

These thought-images are built from the "elemental essence" of the mental sphere, the vibrations of the thought give it the appropriate form, into which the thought is embodied, staying in it as the life that animates it.

Thus we have "artificial elementals" here too, created in the same way as in the astral sphere. Everything that is said in the second chapter about their origin and meaning can be repeated with regard to the thought-images of the mental sphere, but here the responsibility of their creators is increased due to the greater power and duration of phenomena in this higher world. The elemental essence of the sphere was created by the Monad at the time of its descent just before its entry into the astral world, and it forms the second elemental kingdom inhabiting the four lower divisions of the mental sphere. The three highest divisions (without form) are inhabited by the first elemental kingdom; there, the power of thought does not bring the elemental essence into definite forms, but into a state of brilliance, into streams of color, into lightning of living fire, as if timed to complex actions, but without yet assuming a definite limitation of forms.

In the mental realm, in both of its vast departments, there are many Spirits whose lower bodies are composed of luminous matter and the elemental essence of the mental realm, Luminous, who direct the processes of nature, watching the hosts of lower spirits, which have already been discussed, at the same time being in subjection to the great representatives of the seven elements [These are the "Arupa and Rupa Devas" of the Hindus and Buddhists, the "Lords of heaven and earth" of the followers of Zoroaster, the Archangels and Angels of Christians and Mohammedans]. These are Beings with vast knowledge, with great powers, possessing magnificent appearance: shining, sparkling, countless shades, like rainbows with changing heavenly colors, a stately regal appearance, the embodiment of calm energy and irresistible strength. I recall the description of the great Christian prophet when he spoke of the mighty Angel: "A rainbow was over his head, his face was like the sun and his feet were like pillars of fire" (Revelation X, I). Their voices are like the noise of many streams, like the echo from the music of the spheres. They preside over the natural order and govern the vast hosts of the elementals of the astral world, whose bands carry out the various processes of nature incessantly with unfailing regularity and precision.

In the lower mental regions there are Chelas (disciples) working in their mental bodies [These bodies are usually called Mayavi Rupa, or bodies of illusion when they are created for independent activity in the mental sphere], freed for a time from their physical covers. When the body is in deep sleep, the true man, the Thinker, can leave it, free from its heaviness, can act without hindrance in the higher worlds. From here, he can comfort and help his neighbors, acting directly on their consciousness, sending them thoughts of help, putting before them noble ideas, and all this is faster and more effective than in the flesh. From there he sees their needs more clearly and is therefore in a position to help them more perfectly; and his highest joy is to serve his struggling brethren, unaware of whose strong hand lifts their burdens and whose gentle voice speaks consolation in their hours of sorrow. Invisible, unrecognized, he works, serving his enemies as willingly as his friends, distributing to individual people the streams of life-giving forces pouring out from the Great Helpers from still higher spheres. Here one can sometimes see the bright image of the Teachers, although usually They reside on the higher planes of the mental sphere; and other high Beings also appear from time to time for the sake of the work of mercy and help that requires their manifestation on these levels of being.

Communication between intelligent beings acting consciously in this realm, be they human or non-human beings, be they in the body or out of the body, takes place instantly, with the "speed of thought." Space has no separating meaning here, and each soul can come into contact with another soul only by directing its attention to it. Such messages are distinguished not only by speed, but also by perfect completeness, if the souls stand on the same level of evolution. Words do not fetter and do not interfere with unity, but the whole thought is transferred with lightning speed from one soul to another, or rather, each soul sees how a thought is created in another soul. The true barriers between souls are differences in evolution; a less developed soul can know about a more developed one only to the extent that it is able to respond to the vibrations of the latter; moreover, the limitation can only be felt by the higher soul, since the lower one has an answer to everything that it can accommodate. The more developed the soul is, the closer it comes to the essence of things.

But it must be remembered that the mental sphere also has its veils of illusions, although they are much fewer and incomparably thinner than the illusions of the astral and physical worlds. Each soul has its own mental atmosphere, and since all impressions must pass through this atmosphere, they are all distorted and colored according to its properties. The lighter and purer the atmosphere, the less it is colored by personal properties, the less illusions remain that can influence it.

The three higher divisions of the mental sphere are the seat of the Thinker himself, and he remains in one or the other, according to the degree of his evolution. The vast majority are at the lowest level. A relatively small number of highly intelligent souls are on the second level, since the Thinker ascends there - an expression more suitable for the physical than for the mental sphere - only if the finer matter of this region predominates in him and therefore necessitates moving to a higher area.

In essence, the point here is not in “ascension” and not in a change of place, but in the fact that the Thinker is able to perceive the vibrations of finer matter and respond to them, having the ability to send forces from himself that lead the rarefied particles of this fine matter into oscillatory movements.

The student of these questions must firmly bear in mind the fact that ascending the steps of evolution does not mean moving from place to place, but a more and more refined ability to perceive impressions. All spheres surround us: the astral, the mental, the spheres of Buddha and Nirvana and even higher worlds, the life of the highest God. We have no need to move about to find them, for they are here, near us, but our gross immunity removes and hides them from us more effectively than millions of miles in space could do.

We are conscious only of what acts on us, what causes response vibrations in us, and as we become more and more receptive and absorb more and more subtle matter, we come into contact with more and more refined worlds. Therefore, the rise from one level to another means that we weave for ourselves vestments from finer material and through it come into contact with more refined worlds; and it also has the significance that in the higher Self, enclosed in these vestments, the higher forces awaken from an immobile state to activity and begin to send out their subtle vibrations of life.

At this stage, reached by the Thinker, he is fully aware of everything around him and possesses the memory of his past. He knows the bodies in which he is clothed, through which he contacts the lower worlds, and he is able to influence and guide them to a great extent. He sees the obstacles and difficulties, the fruits of past careless lives, that threaten them, and he seeks to pour into them energies that will make them better equipped for the tasks ahead. The guidance coming from him is sometimes felt in the lower consciousness as an overbearing coercive force that paves its way and induces to such actions that may be obscure to the more vague consciousness of the mental and astral sheaths. People who performed great deeds sometimes left evidence that some kind of internal uplifting and compelling force forced them, as if against their will, to act in this way and not otherwise. And then they did truly human deeds; The thinker who is inner man, performs its work consciously by means of bodies, which perform their activities as mere conductors of the individual.

In the third, highest, region of the mental sphere are the Egos (immortal Selves) of the Masters and Initiates and their disciples; here, in the shells of the Thinker, the subtle matter of this higher world predominates. It is from this world of the highest mental forces that the Teachers spread their beneficial activity for the benefit of mankind, shedding streams of noble ideas, inspiring thoughts, prayerful aspirations, streams of spiritual and intellectual help to people.

Each force formed there radiates in innumerable directions, and the noblest and purest souls most easily perceive these beneficent, helping influences. Thus, a new discovery suddenly illuminates the thought of a patient investigator of the hidden forces of nature; a new melody delights the ear of a great musician; the answer to a long-sought problem illuminates the sublime mind of the philosopher; a new energy of hope and love penetrates into the heart of a selfless worker for the benefit of disadvantaged people. Meanwhile, people think that they are left without any help, although the very expressions that they often use, such as: "a sudden thought visited me", "a revelation flashed through me like lightning", etc., unconsciously confirm the truth, which well known to their higher self, though hidden from their blind physical gaze.

Let us now return to the study of the Thinker and his shells, as they are among people on earth. The body of thought that conditions consciousness in the four lower divisions of the mental sphere, the mental body, as we call it, is composed of the aggregates of matter of these four divisions. When the Thinker, the individuality, the soul of a person incarnates, it first radiates a certain part of the energy in vibrations that attract to it and clothe it in the matter of the four lower divisions of its own sphere (mental). According to the properties of vibrations, one or another kind of matter is involved: thus, more subtle matter responds to faster vibrations and receives a certain form under their influence; coarser matter responds to slower vibrations in exactly the same way as a string resounds with the same note, i.e. a given number of vibrations, in response to a note issued by a string of the same length and tension, but it will remain mute among the whole chorus of notes produced by inappropriate strings. The same is true of the different kinds of matter, which all respond only to the vibrations corresponding to each kind. In full accordance with the vibrations sent by the Thinker, there will be the nature of the mental body with which he surrounds himself, and this mental body is what we call the lower mind or lower manas, for it is the Thinker himself, clothed in the matter of the lower divisions of the mental spheres and limited in its manifestations by this matter. None of his energies, too subtle to set this kind of matter in motion, and too fast to cause reciprocal vibrations in it, can manifest itself through it; therefore, the Thinker is necessarily limited by matter, conditioned by it, reduced by it in the manifestations of his Self. This is the first of the dungeons in which he imprisons himself during his embodied life, and while his energies are working within it, he is for the most part separated from his own higher world, since all his attention is directed to the forces emanating from him; because of this, his own life is also involved in the lower body of thought, which is called either a shell (vessel), or a sheath (sheath), or a vehicle (vehicle) - it is not a matter of expression: each of them indicates that the Thinker is not a mental body, that he uses it to manifest himself as far as possible in the lower mental region.

It should also not be forgotten that his energies, continuing to strive outward, also gather around him the denser matter of the astral sphere, from which his astral body is formed; during his embodied life, his energies, expressed through the lower kinds of mental matter, are so easily converted into slower vibrations corresponding to astral matter, that both bodies - mental and astral - constantly vibrating together, finally become closely intertwined with each other; the coarser the property of the matter introduced into the construction of the mental body, the closer this connection becomes, so that both bodies are sometimes ranked in the same category and even taken as one [Thus the theosophist uses the expression "Kama-Manas", implying that thought works simultaneously with passionate the beginning of man, with his "body of desire", being influenced by animal nature. The follower of Vedanta classifies both bodies or both principles in the same category and speaks of the Ego, the higher Self, manifested through manomayokosha, a sheath that connects both the lower rational principle and the principle of passions and emotions. The European psychologist establishes "feelings" as part of the "soul" and understands by feeling both emotions and sensations].

When we come to the study of reincarnation, we shall see what great vital significance this fact has.

The type of mental body that a person forms on his way to a new incarnation will fully correspond to the stage of evolution reached by a person, and we will now begin - as we did with regard to the astral body - to study the mental bodies corresponding to three types of man: A) undeveloped, B) average, C) spiritually awakened.

A) In an undeveloped person, the mental body is only barely noticeable; it consists of a small amount of unorganized mental matter, mainly of its lower types - that's all it is at this stage.

Noisy pleasures, anger, fury, pain, horror - all these passions, producing whirlwinds in the astral body, awaken weak vibrations in the mental body, and it is these vibrations that awaken the mental consciousness to activity, forcing it to add something of itself to the impressions coming on it from the outside.

The awakening powers of the mind, enslaved by the senses, make of man a much more dangerous and wild animal than all animals, and the more powerful and more refined forces inherent in the mental spirit-matter give the nature of passions an energy and sharpness that are not found in the animal world.

While the purpose of earthly life is to accumulate experiences, the meaning of the intermediate life between death and a new birth is to translate these experiences into individual properties, as we will see in the next chapter: thanks to this, with each new return to earth, the Thinker brings with an ever-increasing stock of abilities, which are embodied in his new mental body.

B) In an average person, the mental body increases in volume, already shows a certain degree of organization and contains a significant amount of matter belonging to the second, third and fourth subdivisions of the mental sphere.

C) In a spiritually developed person, all the coarser compounds have already been removed from this body, so that sensible objects do not find either in it or in the astral body closely associated with it the appropriate materials capable of vibrating sympathetically in response to their vibrations.

The general properties of the "body of thought" depend on the past lives of the Thinker on earth, as will become clear in the study of reincarnation and karma. The mental body is organized in the mental sphere, and the materials from which it is built depend on those qualities that the Thinker has collected within himself as a result of his past experiences. All that education can do is to provide such stimuli that could contribute to the growth of already existing useful properties, and on the other hand to the eradication of those properties that are undesirable. The development of innate qualities, and not the cluttering of the mind with a mass of facts - this is the goal of true education; the attitude to memory as a separate ability is wrong, because memory depends on attention, i.e. from the constant concentration of thought on the subject under study and from the natural affinity between the subject and the mind. If the subject pleases, in other words, if the mind has an inclination towards it, there will be no lack of memory, assuming that the necessary attention will be applied. Therefore, education should not develop the habit of concentration and constant attention and should be directed according to the innate abilities of the pupil.

Let us now move on to the subdivisions of the mental sphere, which we have called "without form", to that area that is the true homeland of a person during all the time of his reincarnations, in which he will be born as a baby soul, as an infant Ego, as a deposit of individuality, then, when his purely human evolution [See chapters VII and VIII on "Reincarnation"].
