A few years ago, CDs were actively used to transfer data, but today they are almost completely a thing of the past. Nevertheless, with the help of ingenuity and the simplest engineering skills, you can create fantastic things, among which are household lamps from disks with your own hands.

There is nothing difficult to complete all the stages yourself. The discs are extremely easy to process, since the material is flexible and pliable. Moreover, on the Internet you can find a huge number of ready-made schemes that can be easily supplemented and created a truly unique work of art. Assembling your own lamp has never been more fun.

What kind of luminaire format can you create?

Many engineers are interested in what can be made from commonplace CDs. The answer may be shocking, but it is absolutely true: everything that is enough for imagination. The shiny side can be used as a reflector for a garland, chandelier, or individual lamp.

In order to make a lamp from discs, you will need a number of tools and additional spare parts, which can be easily purchased at a specialized store:

  • the actual disks;
  • some amount of wire;
  • electrical tape, hot glue;
  • lED strips or lamp housing;
  • power plug;
  • engineering set.

As practice shows, every man has everything he needs to make such a craft. There is some possibility that self-made lamps from disks with their own hands may not work the first time, but you should not despair - you will be able to find the mistake or defect, eliminate them and get a working device.

The main stages of work

So, if you want to get a truly unique lamp, you should start by creating a case for the future device. You can shape it with hot melt glue, but working with thin discs is problematic. To solve this problem, several dozen CDs are most often glued together to create a weighty case.

Then a power cable is passed through the main hole, cleaned and a socket for a lamp is connected to one of the ends. These elements can be connected both with the help of modern plastic fasteners, and by soldering them together. Nevertheless, it should be understood that high-quality insulation of the connection is required in order to exclude the possibility of electrical injury.

Remember that the discs must have a shiny surface towards the lamp, as it acts as a reflector. Thanks to this, the light acquires a brighter and more saturated hue, so it becomes possible to use sources of lower power - the result will be the same.

On the free side of the cable, a power plug is connected, for installation of which solder or a mechanical method can be used. Modern technologies eliminates the need for solder, but the decision remains with the engineer. Thereafter simplest lamp from CDs ready.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in creating a unique lamp with your own hands. Try, use your imagination and search for information on the Internet to surprise not only guests and loved ones, but also yourself, as each such product can perfectly complement your interior design!

The time of CDs has almost passed, many have a large number of them - musical, with films, cartoons, with outdated computer programs - with images on them of heroes of fairy tales and films, flowers, graphic pictures.

They sparkle and shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow on the one hand, and on the other, they have beautiful drawings. Throwing them away does not raise a hand - and it is not necessary, from them you can make a lot of original, beautiful and useful things for the home.

In addition, it is very simple to work with them - they already have the correct circle shape, which in some crafts will only need to be slightly changed in order to give the future product or decoration the desired look. Moreover, they are easily cut with ordinary office scissors and are glued to the surface of almost any material.

It happens that some home interior items have lost their appearance, there is no way to replace them with new ones, or it is simply a pity to throw away an old favorite thing that has served faithfully for many years. Discs will help give things new life.

For example, you can decorate an old mirror with them, making from pieces different shapes and the size of the original frame sparkling and shimmering in the rays of sunlight from a window or in the light of an electric lamp in all colors of the rainbow.

You can make a beautiful frame for a photo, decorate the edges with a mosaic of pieces of discs pull-out drawers cabinet.

Frame for mirror or photography

You will need a lot of discs, scissors, paints, glue, thick cardboard, colorless transparent varnish.

First you need to cut a frame out of cardboard in the shape and size of a mirror or photo. Then cut the discs into pieces of different shapes - squares, irregular quadrangles, rhombuses, triangles.

Take glue and stick it on the frame of the figure so that there is a distance of one or two millimeters between them. As a result, the frame will be a mosaic of iridescent geometric shapes.

When the glue dries, and the figures cut from the disk stick well, use black ink or paint to carefully and carefully go over the joints of the figures. After that, the frame is covered with clear varnish, allowed to dry and fixed to the wall with a mirror or photograph.

Mirrored disc frames look mysterious and original.

If the apartment interior doors with glass, glass can also be laid out with a mosaic of disks. In this case, it is not necessary to paint the joints between the pieces, but simply cover everything with transparent varnish, then there will be a feeling of light and space.

Clock from discs

An option is to buy a clock mechanism with hands or take it out of an old watch, put a clock of any configuration on the wall with discs, sticking it in the wall, and fix the clock mechanism in the middle.

Wall decoration with discs

On the wall in the room or in the kitchen, you can lay out an interesting composition from disks with beautiful pictures, selected by theme. Or you can use them to create your own picture.

To do this, you need to take the disks and paint their shiny side with black ink, when the ink dries, outline the lines of the future image along it, and then go over them with something sharp - a thick needle, a special scraper or a sharp knife with a thin blade and a sharp tip.

The iridescent lines on a black background will look very beautiful - you can draw anything: unusual birds, flowers, abstract drawing. And hang the disks on the wall in no particular order.

Kitchen decoration with discs

In the kitchen, disks can make an unusual "apron" in the desktop area. It will look extremely original, and in terms of performance, the disks will not yield tile - they are just as easy to clean from splashes of fat and juice of vegetables and fruits.

The principle of working with them is the same as with frames for mirrors and photographs - just stick on the wall.

Whether for a room or a kitchen - you can make mosaic panelby gluing pieces of the desired shape and color onto cardboard, and then covering the composition with transparent varnish.

Household items from disks

The disks will make an excellent hot stand. In this case, the disc will play the role of a base, you need to pull a nice cover made of fabric onto it, and the stand is ready.

It will be original to update the tabletop with cut pieces of discs coffee table... To do this, cut them, fix them on the countertop with a plasticizer in any order or make a pattern from the pieces, and then pour a thin layer of transparent varnish on the countertop, making it even.

The coating will be durable. The table top will sparkle and sparkle beautifully.

From two discs and a thick tree branch, you can make a holder for women's earrings.

The core of the rack is made of a smoothly processed branch, turned around the diameter of the hole in the center of the discs, one disc will be the base, the second shelf, in it - make holes and insert the earring arches into them.

How to decorate a suburban area with disks

Creativity and imagination - space. For example, from the old car tires and discs, you can make a flower bed by decorating the outer surface of the tires with a mosaic of shiny pieces.

And you can from rubber tire cut out a peacock, and make the tail from whole round discs - for this they must be glued in pairs with shiny sides outward, and then make them a large triangle-tail, gluing the glued blanks in pairs with an overlap.

On a country fence made of discs, you can depict a huge iridescent caterpillar. You can paint the disks under ladybug - make spots with red paint, black paint and paint a head, and plant them on fruit bushes and trees.

Christmas decorations from disks

Due to the fact that the discs in the rays of light shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow, beautiful snowflakes will come out of them for the New Year's holiday - they are easily cut with scissors, you can cut the most intricate pattern. You can hang snowflakes both on the tree and on the walls.

You can cut the discs into small pieces, thickly paste over a regular ball and hang it from the ceiling on threads - it will rotate and sparkle, reflecting the lights of the New Year's garlands.

The application can be very different. From disks you can make interior curtain in the likeness of bamboo - to collect discs on long threads. They can make an ultramodern necklace, fridge magnet, vase, candlestick, stand for ballpoint pens and pencils, a box, they can even decorate a summer bag.

Unnecessary CDs are an excellent material for creativity, a means of spending leisure time - making certain little things out of them, and the opportunity to decorate a house or dacha in an original and unusual way without spending a lot of money.

Materials

  • CDs (1000 discs.)
  • Fiberboard circle (1 pc.)
  • Electrical connector (12 positions)
  • Steel wire (5m)
  • Lamp holder
  • Electric wire + switch + plug
  • E27 fluorescent lamp (1 pc.)
  • Silicone sticks (2 pcs.)
  • Rubber feet (3 pcs.)

    Tools

  • drill
  • pincers
  • pliers
  • screwdriver
  • glue / gun for silicone
  • compass
  • pencil
  • ruler-triangle

    Step 1: preparation

    Before starting work on the lamp, you need to collect the necessary parts and check if you have all the tools.
    Don't worry, most likely most the right tools and materials are found in the house. Others can be purchased inexpensively online or in local stores.

    How many CDs do I need?
    To make a lamp the same size as mine, you will need 900 - 1000 CDs (about 15 kg).

    If you can't find that many discs, you can ask your friends, colleagues or classmates: I think many people want to get rid of old CDs (old music discs, various free discs from magazines, recorded films, etc.).

    Circle Fiberboard
    diameter 20 cm / height 1.5 cm
    easy to find in hardware stores

    Electrical connectors
    12 connectors
    The size of the connector should be determined by the diameter of the steel wire: the steel wire should fit into the hole in the connector.

    Steel wire
    5 m with a diameter of 2 mm should be just right.

    Lamp holder + electrical wire + switch + plug
    You can find an already assembled version or make it yourself. Choose the size and style according to your design taste. I think it is better to take a wire at least 2 m long.

    Fluorescent energy saving lamp Е27
    In principle, any energy-saving fluorescent lamp will do. If you want to install a smaller lamp, you need to take the appropriate one.

    Silicone
    Make sure that the silicone you bought is transparent, you need 2 sticks of the largest size.

    Rubber feet
    3 pcs.
    You need small rubber feet with a diameter of about 2 cm.

    Step 2: making the bottom

    Take a fiberboard circle, and using a compass and ruler, divide the circle into 12 sectors.
    Connect the dividing points with lines to define the center to insert the socket, steel wire, and mark the places for the rubber feet. You can see in the photos what it should look like.

    Drill the required holes.

    Cut 6 pieces of steel wire using a pliers, each 1m long. Bend each piece into an arc using a vice or pliers.

    Now you need to attach all this to the bottom of the future lamp:
    1) fix the 3 rubber feet with bolts and a screwdriver
    2) fix the lamp holder in the center hole.

    As a result, the cartridge must “sit” in the center of the luminaire.

    Step 3: making a grid and a sphere from CDs

    Secure the 6 arcuate pieces of wire by inserting both ends into the holes.
    Now you need to wrap the arcs with your hands or pliers to the desired shape. As a result, you should get a lattice in the form of a sphere (SEE PHOTO).

    The unnecessary ends of the wire can be cut off with wire cutters. The result is a grid of 12 steel wires in the shape of a spherical cage (SEE PHOTOS).

    Now you can start stringing CDs. At first, only 6 rods close to the center need to be filled with discs. Alternate overlapping discs between rods (lay a layer of 3 discs through one rod at a time - SEE PHOTO). Each disk must lie on 2 adjacent ones. Check every 5-10 layers to ensure that the discs lay evenly and symmetrically. Fill the space between the rod and discs with silicone from a pistol.

    Repeat this procedure until the discs begin to overlap again. This will happen when the stacks of discs are approximately 6 cm high.

    In this place, you need to string alternately 6 discs in a layer (SEE PHOTO). As before, every 5-10 layers you need to glue the space between the disc and the rod with silicone. As a result, there will already be 12 stacks of discs.
    Continue stringing on 12 rods as long as size allows, then change back to 6 rods, stringing 3 discs alternately.

    The 6 stacks of discs should converge towards the center. Do not forget to pre-install the E27 bulb in the socket as the discs will block access to the socket at the top.

    IMPORTANT:

  • do not use silicone on the last 5-10 layers of discs in case the bulb needs to be replaced.
  • do not forget to correct the shape of the rods so that there is a symmetrical ball of disks during the stringing process.

    Step 4: the top of the lamp

    When the stacks of discs are approximately 26 cm high, turn each end of the wire towards the center. Any excess wire must be cut off. The result will be like in the PHOTO.

    Now you need to clamp the edges of the wire. Divide the circle (2 discs stacked together) into 12 sectors.
    On each of the 12 drawn radii, mark 2 points for installing the electrical connector. Drill 24 holes with a drill. Make sure the distance between the two holes on each radius matches the connectors you have.

    Disassemble the electrical connector to remove the 12 metal connectors.

    Assemble the top by sliding one connector over each wire, and secure the top disc to the connectors using bolts and a screwdriver.

    Step 5: turn it on!

  • In addition to old disks, you will need:
    - a circle of fiberboard with a height of 1.5 cm and a diameter of 20 cm;
    - 12 electrical connectors, the size of which is determined by the diameter of the steel wire;
    - 5 m of steel wire with a diameter of 2 mm;
    - switch;
    - lamp holder;
    - fork;
    - energy-saving fluorescent lamp E27;
    - 2 sticks of transparent silicone;
    - rubber feet with a diameter of 2 cm;
    - drill;
    - pliers.

    Frame preparation

    Begin assembly work by shaping the bottom of the lamp. To do this, divide the fiberboard circle into 12 sectors using a ruler and a compass. Connect the dividing points with lines to determine the center, this is necessary to insert the cartridge, steel wire and mark the place where the rubber feet are attached. Use a drill to drill the holes.

    Using pliers, cut 6 pieces of steel wire 1 meter long. Bend each piece in an arc, it is easier to cope with the task using pliers or a vice. Bolt the three rubber feet and the chuck in the center hole.

    Assembling disks

    Secure the 6 arcuate wire pieces by inserting them into the holes. Fold with bows or pliers to get the desired shape. As a result, a spherical lattice should be formed. Use a wire cutter to remove the excess wire edges.

    Start the assembly by filling in 6 rods located closer to the center. Lay the discs alternately so that each disc rests on two adjacent discs. Fill the space between the discs and the stem with silicone. Repeat the installation until the discs begin to overlap again. From now on, string 6 discs in succession. Collect 12-rod discs as long as size allows, then switch back to 6 rods and string 3 discs each.

    Before 6 stacks of discs converge to the center, install the E27 lamp in the holder. In the last 8-10 coats, do not use silicone to gain access to the lamp should it need to be replaced.

    Chandelier top

    When the stacks have reached 26 cm, fold the wires towards the center. Divide the 2 discs stacked together into 12 sectors, mark 2 points at each radius, drill holes for the electrical connector. Disassemble the electrical connector so that the metal connectors can be removed. To assemble the tops, put on a connector on each wire, fasten the upper disc to the bolts with a screwdriver.

    How to make a lamp from laser discs?

    Today, plastic discs are out of use.

    Naturally, the question of their disposal came up close. However, it is a pity to just throw them away, especially since there is a possibility of their quite rational use.

    Today we will talk about how you can create a beautiful chandelier from discs with your own hands. Using discs with their reflective surfaces for just such a purpose is an obvious decision.

    What do you need to make a disc chandelier?

    For the simplest DIY chandelier made of discs, it will require a dozen discs with a double-sided mirror layer.

    From the tool it is worth stocking up with a screwdriver.

    With a 2-3 mm drill, wire cutters and pliers.

    For the manufacture of connecting staples, any kind of sufficiently soft wire is needed; you can use well-known paper clips.

    As a source of illumination, a 220-volt electric lamp with a "minion" cartridge and an equally standard mount to the suspension is optimal.

    The cartridge is connected using a wire with a built-in switch.

    Of course, you can try to make a multi-lamp lamp and connect the chandelier to a double switch, but for the not too experienced home master, this kind of work can be difficult, although you can try.

    In principle, it is possible to create a multi-lamp chandelier from discs with your own hands by assembling it on a frame of several single-lamp lamps, preferably three, and then connecting this chandelier to a double switch.

    How to make a CD stencil for a chandelier?

    At the first stage, you will need to prepare a stencil disc for drilling a hole for staples. With a protractor, you need to measure five sectors with angles of 72 degrees and at a distance of 5 millimeters from the edge of the disk, drill five holes up to 3 millimeters in diameter.

    Then you need to put the discs to be used in the CD storage reel.

    Through a stencil superimposed on top, all discs are drilled through. A guide made of a match or thin wire is inserted into the resulting well. Four more holes are drilled in the same way.

    Guides are needed to prevent disks from moving relative to neighbors. The lamp holder is mounted in the first disc.

    There is no need to expand the existing hole in the center, by the way, you can use simple standard cartridges in addition to "minions".

    How to fasten CD chandelier discs?

    To fasten the disks, you will need a blank of three dozen mounting brackets. They should have a "P" -shaped shape, dimensions 8 by 10 by 8 millimeters.

    One standard paper clip is enough for three staples. The work is done with pliers and wire cutters. When all the preliminary work is completed, the actual assembly of the chandelier begins.

    The prepared staples are inserted into the holes at the edges of the discs and folded inward using pliers.

    Which lamp to install in a disc chandelier?

    The lamp is installed before the adjacent discs are attached. If you want to get sharp topics, you should use an incandescent lamp, but with a power not exceeding 25 watts.

    The use of a more powerful lamp threatens to melt the plastic from which the discs are made.
