Thanks to the development of new technologies, such drives as CDs are gradually becoming a thing of the past, replaced by flash drives and memory cards. Most PC users have a huge amount of disks left that will never be used. In order not to just throw away unnecessary discs, they can be used as material for various crafts. One of these products can be a do-it-yourself chandelier from disks.

Chandelier design

To make a high-quality and beautiful chandelier, you will need 12 discs with a double mirror layer. Of the tools you will need and drills, pliers and wire cutters. The discs can be connected to each other using brackets, for which any soft wire or paper clips are suitable. As a source of illumination, a 220-volt electric light bulb is used, screwed into a standard cartridge and suspended on a standard mount. The cartridge is connected to the circuit with a cord and a switch. For the manufacture of high-quality chandeliers, it is necessary to perform a number of mandatory operations.

The sequence of manufacturing a chandelier

  1. To accurately drill holes, you need to prepare one disk as a stencil. To do this, the disk is divided into five equal sectors, and then, retreating from the edge of 5 mm, five holes are drilled with a diameter of 2 or 3 mm.
  2. Must be placed in a storage box required amount disks. A stencil is laid on top and the first hole is drilled through it, passing through all the disks. For fixation, a match or thin wire is inserted into the hole. On the opposite side, another hole is drilled, which is also fixed. After that, all other holes are drilled.
  3. The lamp holder is installed in the first disk, in a standard hole that does not require expansion.
  4. To fix the disks together, you need to prepare mounting brackets in advance, in the amount of 30 pieces. Approximately one paper clip is used for three staples. They are made with wire cutters and pliers.
  5. The luminaire is assembled sequentially, with the help of brackets inserted into the hole and bent from the inside. Bracketed discs should be held completely free of other CDs.
  6. Before fixing adjacent disks, an electric lamp is installed inside the lamp. Lamps work best, although they don't produce sharp enough shadows.
  7. After fixing the last disks, the lamp can be installed in a pre-selected place.

How to make a paper lamp

A few years ago, CDs were actively used for data transfer, but today they are almost completely a thing of the past. Nevertheless, with the help of ingenuity and the simplest engineering skills, you can create fantastic things, including household lamps from disks with your own hands.

There is nothing difficult to complete all the steps on your own. Discs are extremely easy to process, as the material is flexible and pliable. Moreover, on the Internet you can find a huge number of ready-made schemes that can be easily supplemented and create a truly unique work of art. Building your own lamp has never been so much fun.

What lamp format can be created?

Many engineers are interested in what can be done from banal CDs. The answer may shock, but it is absolutely truthful: everything that is enough for imagination. The shiny side can be used as a reflector for a garland, chandelier or personal lighting lamp.

In order to make a lamp out of disks, you will need a number of tools and additional spare parts, which can be easily purchased at a specialized store:

  • actual disks;
  • some wire;
  • electrical tape, hot glue;
  • LED strip or lamp housing;
  • power plug;
  • engineering set.

As practice shows, every man has everything necessary to make such a craft. There is some possibility that do-it-yourself lamps made from disks with your own hands may not work the first time, but do not despair - you will be able to find a mistake or defect, fix them and get a working device.

Main stages of work

So, if you want to get a truly unique lamp, you should start by creating the body of the future device. You can shape it with hot glue, but working with thin discs is problematic. To solve this problem, most often several dozen CDs are glued together to get a heavy case.

Then, a power cable is passed through the main hole, it is stripped and a lamp socket is attached to one of the ends. You can connect these elements both with the help of modern plastic fasteners, and by soldering them together. Nevertheless, it should be understood that high-quality insulation of the connection is required in order to exclude the possibility of electrical injury.

Remember that the discs should be positioned with their shiny surface towards the lamp as it acts as a reflector. Due to this, the light acquires a brighter and more saturated hue, so it becomes possible to use sources of less power - the result will be the same.

A power plug is attached to the free side of the cable, which can be mounted using solder or a mechanical method. Modern technologies allow to refuse solder, however the decision remains for the engineer. After that the simplest lamp from CDs is ready.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in creating a unique lamp with your own hands. Try, use your imagination and look for information on the Internet to surprise not only guests and loved ones, but also yourself, as each such product can perfectly complement your interior design!

materials

  • CDs (1000 discs.)
  • Circle of fiberboard (1 pc.)
  • Electrical connector (12 positions)
  • Steel wire (5 m)
  • lamp holder
  • Electric wire + switch + plug
  • Fluorescent lamp E27 (1 pc.)
  • Silicone sticks (2 pcs.)
  • Rubber feet (3 pcs.)

    Tools

  • drill
  • ticks
  • pliers
  • screwdriver
  • glue/silicone gun
  • compass
  • pencil
  • ruler-triangle

    Step 1: Preparation

Before starting work on the lamp, you need to collect the necessary spare parts and check if all the tools are there.
Don't worry, most likely the right tools and materials can be found in the house. The rest can be bought inexpensively online or at local stores.

How many CDs do I need?
To make a lamp the size of mine, you will need 900 - 1000 CDs (about 15kg).

If you can't find that many discs, you can ask friends, colleagues or classmates: I think many people want to get rid of old CDs (old music CDs, various free CDs from magazines, recorded films, etc.).

    Circle fiberboard
    diameter 20 cm / height 1.5 cm
easy to find in hardware stores

    Electrical connectors
    12 connectors
The size of the connector must be determined by the diameter of the steel wire: the steel wire must fit into the opening of the connector.

    steel wire
5 m diameter 2 mm should be just right.

Lamp holder + electrical wire+ switch + plug
You can find a pre-assembled version or make your own. Choose the size and style according to your design taste. I think it's better to take a wire at least 2 m long.

    Fluorescent energy saving lamp E27
In principle, any energy-saving fluorescent lamp will do. If you want to install a smaller lamp, you need to take the appropriate one.

    Silicone
Make sure that the silicone you buy is transparent, you need 2 sticks of the largest size.

    Rubber feet
    3 pcs.
You need small rubber feet with a diameter of about 2 cm.

    Step 2: Making the Bottom

Take a circle of fiberboard, and using a compass and a ruler, divide the circle into 12 sectors.
Connect the division points with lines to determine the center to insert the cartridge, steel wire into it, and also mark the places for the rubber feet. You can see in the photos what should happen.

    Drill the required holes.

Cut 6 pieces of steel wire using pliers, each piece is 1m long. Bend each piece into an arc using vise or pliers.

Now you need to attach it all to the bottom of the future lamp:
    1) fix 3 rubber feet with bolts and screwdriver
    2) Fix the bulb holder in the center hole.

As a result, the cartridge should “sit” in the center of the lamp.

Step 3: Making a Grid and a Sphere with CDs

Secure 6 arcuate pieces of wire by inserting both ends into the holes.
Now you need to wrap the arcs with your hands or pliers to the desired shape. The result should be a lattice in the form of a sphere (SEE PHOTO).

Unnecessary wire ends can be cut off with wire cutters. The result is a grid of 12 steel wires in the shape of a spherical cage (SEE PHOTO).

Now you can start stringing CDs. First you need to fill with disks only 6 rods close to the center. Alternate layering of discs between rods (lay a layer of 3 discs through one rod at a time - SEE PHOTO). Each disk must lie on 2 neighboring disks. Every 5-10 layers, check that the discs lie evenly and symmetrically. Fill the place between the rod and the discs with silicone from a gun.

Repeat this procedure until the discs begin to overlap each other again. This will happen when the stacks of discs are about 6 cm high.

In this place, you need to string alternately 6 discs in a layer (SEE PHOTO). As before, every 5-10 layers you need to glue the space between the disk and the rod with silicone. As a result, there will already be 12 stacks of disks.
Continue stringing on 12 rods as long as the size allows, then go back to 6 rods, stringing 3 discs alternately.

6 stacks of disks should converge towards the center. Be sure to install the E27 bulb in the socket first, as the discs will block access to the socket at the top.

    IMPORTANT:

  • do not use silicone for the last 5-10 layers of discs in case you need to change the light bulb.
  • do not forget to correct the shape of the rods so that there is a symmetrical ball of disks in the process of stringing.

Step 4: The top of the lamp

When the height of the stacks of discs reaches about 26 cm, you need to wrap each end of the wire towards the center. All excess wire must be cut off. The result will be, as in the PHOTO.

Now you need to clamp the edges of the wire. Divide the circle (2 discs stacked together) into 12 sectors.
On each of the 12 drawn radii, mark 2 points for installing the electrical connector. Drill 24 holes. Make sure the distance between the two holes on each radius matches the connectors you have.

Disassemble the electrical connector to remove the 12 metal connectors.

Assemble the top by slipping a connector on each wire, secure the top disk to the connectors with screws and a screwdriver.

    Step 5: Turn on!

  • The time of CDs is almost gone, many have a large number of them - music, with films, cartoons, with outdated computer programs- with images on them of heroes of fairy tales and films, flowers, graphic pictures.

They sparkle and shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow on the one hand, on the other - they have beautiful drawings. A hand does not rise to throw them away - and it is not necessary, you can make a lot of original, beautiful and useful things for the home from them.

In addition, working with them is very simple - they already have the correct circle shape, which in some crafts will only need to be slightly changed in order to give the future product or decoration the desired look. At the same time, they are easily cut with ordinary clerical scissors and glued to the surface of almost any material.

It happens that some home interior items have lost their appearance, there is no way to replace them with new ones, or it’s just a pity to throw away an old favorite thing that has served faithfully for many years. Discs will help give things a new life.

For example, they can decorate an old mirror by making pieces different shapes and magnitudes sparkling and shimmering in the rays of sunlight from the window or in the light electric lamp all the colors of the rainbow - the original frame.

You can make a beautiful frame for a photo, decorate with a mosaic of pieces of edge discs drawers closet.

    Frame for mirror or photo

You will need a lot of disks, scissors, paints, glue, thick cardboard, colorless transparent varnish.

First you need to cut out a frame from cardboard in the shape and size of a mirror or photo. Then cut the disks into pieces of different shapes - squares, irregular quadrangles, rhombuses, triangles.

Take glue and stick on the frame of the figure so that there is a distance of one to two millimeters between them. As a result, on the frame you will get a mosaic of iridescent geometric shapes.

When the glue dries, and the figures cut out from the disk stick well, you need to carefully and carefully go through the joints of the figures with black ink or paint. After that, the frame is covered with a transparent varnish, allowed to dry and mounted on a wall with a mirror or photograph.

Mirror frames made of discs look mysterious and original.

If the apartment interior doors with glass, glass can also be laid out with a mosaic of disks. In this case, the joints between the pieces do not need to be painted, but simply covered with transparent varnish, then there will be a feeling of light and space.

    Disk watch

An option is to purchase a clock mechanism with arrows or remove it from an old clock, lay clocks of any configuration on the wall with disks, gluing them to the wall, and strengthen the clock mechanism in the middle.

    Wall decoration with discs

On the wall in the room or in the kitchen, you can lay out an interesting composition from disks with beautiful pictures, selected by theme. And you can use them to create your own picture.

To do this, you need to take the discs and paint their shiny side with black ink, when the ink dries, outline the lines of the future image along it, and then go through them with something sharp - a thick needle, a special scraper or a sharp knife with a thin blade and a sharp tip.

Iridescent lines on a black background will look very beautiful - you can draw anything you like: unusual birds, flowers, an abstract drawing. And hang the discs on the wall in random order.

    Kitchen decoration discs

In the kitchen, disks can make an unusual “apron” in the desktop area. It will look extremely original, and in terms of working properties, the disks will not yield tiles- they are also easy to wash from splashes of fat and juice of vegetables and fruits.

The principle of working with them is the same as with frames for mirrors and photographs - just stick it on the wall.

At least for the room, at least for the kitchen - you can make mosaic panel, sticking pieces of the desired shape and color on cardboard, and then covering the composition with a transparent varnish.

    Disk household items

The discs will make an excellent stand for hot. In this case, the disk will play the role of a base, you need to put a nice cover made of fabric on it, and the stand is ready.

It will be original to update the countertop with sliced \u200b\u200bdiscs coffee table. To do this, cut them, fix them on the countertop with a plasticizer in random order or make a pattern out of the pieces, and then fill the countertop with a thin layer of transparent varnish, making it even.

The cover will be durable. The tabletop will sparkle and shimmer beautifully.

From two disks and a thick tree branch, you can make a holder for women's earrings.

The core of the rack is made from a smoothly processed branch, turned to the diameter of the hole in the center of the disks, one disk will be the base, the second shelf, make holes in it and insert the earrings into them.

How to decorate a suburban area with disks

Creativity and fantasy - space. For example, from old car tires and disks, you can make a flower bed by decorating the outer surface of the tires with a mosaic of shiny pieces.

Is it possible from rubber tire cut out a peacock, and make the tail from whole round disks - for this they need to be glued together in pairs with the shiny sides out, and then make them a large triangle-tail, gluing the pairs of glued blanks with an overlap.

On a dacha fence made of discs, you can depict a huge iridescent caterpillar. You can paint the wheels under ladybug- with red paint, black make spots and draw a head, and seat them on fruit bushes and trees.

    Christmas decorations from discs

Due to the fact that the disks in the rays of light shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow, beautiful snowflakes will come out of them. New Year's holiday- they are easily cut with scissors, you can cut out the most intricate pattern. You can hang snowflakes on the Christmas tree and on the walls.

You can cut the disks into small pieces, thickly paste over an ordinary ball with them and hang it from the ceiling on a thread - it will rotate and sparkle, reflecting the lights of New Year's garlands.

The application can be very different. Disks can be made interior curtain in the likeness of bamboo - to collect disks on long threads. They can make an ultra-modern necklace, a fridge magnet, a vase, a candlestick, a stand for ballpoint pens and pencils, a box, they can even decorate a summer bag.

Unnecessary CDs are an excellent material for creativity, a means of spending leisure time - making certain gizmos from them, and the ability to decorate a house or cottage in an original and unusual way without spending a lot of money.

Photo ideas for fakes from disks

You do not know what to do with the old CDs that you have accumulated and are no longer needed. Unfortunately, the time for writing to discs has already passed, the time has come for the Internet and flash drives, which are much cheaper than discs.
But discs are our history, and it is very difficult to get rid of history. So homemade craftsmen come to our aid, who return the past era to us in a new beautiful light. This is what happened with disks. Recently I saw a beautiful chandelier made of CDs, and such that it is impossible to tear off enthusiastic eyes from it. Exquisite, magnificent, it captivates you and envelops you with its bright light, as the mirror surface of the chandelier made of discs perfectly reflects light, and such a lamp made of LED discs burns especially brightly. Today there are many options for desktop and ceiling lights from spectacularly iridescent discs, including designer chandeliers. But you can try to make the lamps yourself.

In the manufacture of lamps in almost all cases, a wire frame is first made. In this case, too, there was a frame on which compact discs are strung in one row around the circumference, and a lighting device is located in the center.

Here, CDs are already strung on the frame not only in several rows, but also connected to each other, forming a magnificently luminous ball.

And you can install the disks on the frame and in a chaotic manner. It turns out very cheap and original.

And this is a disco ball, a magnificent sculpture made of CDs, where the light-reflecting property of the old, but so popular, CDs is fully used.

Table lamps made of iridescent round CDs are also completely unique. Here, indeed, with the manufacture of such beautiful crafts, old unnecessary CDs began a new life.
