In the last levels, the energy will go faster and faster, so clear tactics and a quick reaction to one or another action were required. If the energy still ran out, then the light went out, the melody "Toreador" sounded, and in a moment the screamer of Freddie the bear appeared. End of the game.

And so - all five main levels (nights), plus the sixth bonus (very difficult) and the seventh special (you can choose the frequency of appearance of certain animatronics).

Secondly, the animatronics themselves. There are four of them: Bonnie the hare, Chica the chicken, Foxy the fox and Freddy the bear, which became the objects of numerous fan arts after the release. Each of them has a different tactic, each going their own way to the office, which makes the task more difficult as you have to keep track of several robots at the same time. What is interesting: when they notice that you are watching them, they freeze and look directly into the camera, which slows them down a bit (but, nevertheless, they “break” the camera and move on). The exception is the fox Foxy. The player needs to prevent her from leaving the “scene”, otherwise in a matter of seconds she runs (she runs, the animation of her run is one of the main horror elements of the first part, which often scared) right into the office.

In general, among the fans, it is the first part that is considered the most terrible, and therefore the best. The atmosphere was very tense and gloomy, and it's not just the creepy animatronics (although their screamers are scary at first), but also the implicit details: quiet melodic sounds coming from somewhere off the stage, Freddie's laughter, footsteps, animatronics moaning, newspapers with news about the deaths of children. In addition, at some point, the robots were shaking strangely and saying something, while their speech was accelerated and unclear. All this made it possible to fully plunge into the atmosphere, to feel in the place of the protagonist and experience the same sensations as he: fear and the desire to live. After the first passage, you will surely have an unpleasant aftertaste in your soul, and the darkness in your house will seem frightening.

At the end of it all, the plot. You can't tell at first glance if Five Nights at Freddy's has it. It would seem that the plot is trivial, and serves only as a reason for the events taking place, but this is actually not the case. He is, and very confusing and mysterious. This fact is warmed up by numerous "Easter eggs" encountered as you progress: a newspaper clipping mentioning a certain "Bite of 87", where one of the animatronics inadvertently bit off the head of a child, strange inscriptions "It's me", the identity of the unknown caller and his further fate, etc., which gave rise to many theories among fans of what is happening. And it was in the first part that the most important secrets that migrated further were revealed: which animatronic committed the "Bite of 87" and who is really behind all this?

However, "Five Nights at Freddy's" was not to everyone's taste. Some critics and players did not appreciate the novelty because of the too simple gameplay for horror. It would seem that there is such a thing? Sit, but poke the buttons in time! Also scolded because of the high complexity and primitive graphics. However, thanks to original findings, the project from an independent developer managed to gain popularity, so Scott set about developing the next part that same year. Moreover, there were already funds for it, and there were more and more ideas.

"" was released on November 11, 2014 on Steam and gained no less popularity than the original. Fans immediately began to discuss game events, the number of streams and reviews on YouTube exceeded all norms. Interest in the series has never been gaining momentum.

The plot of the second part is a prequel that tells about the events of 1987 (when the Bite of 87 happened). The main character gets a job as a security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza pizzeria and from the very first night he is faced with an active attack of out of control animatronics. Despite low salary and high risk, the hero works out six shifts and leaves, after which another guard (phone guy) steps in, and then the same bloody incident occurs that marked the beginning of the mysterious events of the first part.

In terms of gameplay, the sequel made a rapid leap, which is why only the concept remained common. This time they had to confront as many as ten bloodthirsty animatronics. Six new ones were added to four acquaintances - four of them turned out to be “updated” versions of the first ones, two were completely new and very dangerous enemies. The goal is still the same - to prevent them from getting to you. And this could be done only by dressing in a Freddy mask (some animatronics mistook you for “their own” and retreated), it was also required to illuminate the hall and ventilation shafts on both sides of the protagonist. In addition, start the box in time in one of the rooms so that the “boss”, from which you cannot escape, does not get to you. This was the whole difficulty: it was necessary not only to repel the attacks, but also to ensure that the box did not stop playing, which turned the last nights into a game of reaction. It turns out that "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" is the most difficult part of the series (although some consider it the third).

Mini-games were also added, appearing between missions (not always) and made in the style of toys on the Atari. They had to perform certain tasks, but for the most part they carried only plot loads, only confusing an already fragmentary and incomprehensible plot. But, nevertheless, it was they who allowed to reveal some plot details. Thus, the mysterious Purple Man appeared in them, responsible for numerous murders of children, which led to the idea of ​​​​his participation in the "Bite of 87" (this has not yet been confirmed). There was even a theory that it was the phone guy helping out for the entire five nights. The fact is that in the sixth (additional) he says that he will change us for the next night, and the seventh night, as you know, is customizable - it was possible to set the frequency of the appearance of one or another animatronic - which evoked the idea of ​​​​his ability to regulate them as you please. This theory was fueled by his figurine, in whose hand was a little thing that looked like a telephone receiver.

The plot of the second part gave rise to additional leitmotifs for the search for numerous theories. Despite this, he had a lot of “holes” in the first two games (namely: why did the animatronics from the original part look worse? where did the other animatronics come from and why did they try to kill the hero, because the souls of children were not imprisoned in them?), therefore, all the hope was for the upcoming third part, the development of which Scott began immediately after the release of the second.

Five months later, Five Nights at Freddy's was finally released on Steam and immediately took first place in terms of sales (even surpassed Counter Strike Global Offence). From that moment on, there is still debate about whether it should be considered a revolution or a degradation of the series?

What did the third part bring? Firstly, the plot took us as much as thirty years after the events of the original. This time we were in the role of a nameless night guard suffering from a nervous illness. He was assigned to guard an abandoned amusement park built on the site of a former children's pizzeria (the same one). On the second night, the only animatronic was brought to him - Springtrap, who, according to tradition, tried in every possible way to get to the hero. He, armed with a sound module and security cameras, opposes him, but the fear of a mechanical enemy now and then gives rise to monstrous hallucinations in the form of animatronics familiar to us, which greatly interferes. And then everything is standard: five main nights, the sixth nightmarish and the seventh customizable. Various mini-games appear between levels, in which all the animatronics are taken apart by the same Purple Man. There are also hidden mini-games, the passage of which does not carry much plot meaning, but allows you to end up with a good ending.

Secondly, the gameplay has changed only in part, but in the direction of complexity. The essence is the same - we look at the cameras, look for enemies, if we see manifestations of a hallucination - we quickly switch, otherwise the glitches will get us, the equipment will break and the rabbit will come running. In addition, it was necessary to observe the equipment necessary to fight the animatronic, but which often broke down. Moreover, the further the night, the more often breakdowns occur, and it takes time to fix them. It seems to be nothing complicated, but whether it's a bug or a "feature", Scott made it so that in fifty percent of the cases the rabbit gets to the main character from the last room during a breakdown in a few seconds and the game ends. By the way, screamers remained, but only with phantoms - the main enemy himself only flaunted a mutilated "muzzle".

And thirdly, some interesting plot details have finally been revealed. And the most important thing is connected just with the Purple Man. While his identity has remained a mystery, we've been made clear that he's the one responsible for killing the children, and he's dismantled all the animatronics since the events of the original. This moment happened before the third part, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out what role the Purple Man played in this part. However, many are still haunted by the mystery of what happened to him next: after the raging fire, Scott lightly hinted that he still remained safe and sound.

Thus, despite the obvious disadvantages in the form of an unattractive gameplay, “leaky” (many details were not explained and the secret of the “Bite-87” was not revealed, but even more questions were added) and an illogical plot (in the yard of the 20s 21st century and hardware hasn't evolved), Five Nights at Freddy's 3 has more positives. However, fans were expecting something completely different. Some of them were finally convinced that Cawthon was focused on commercial success, but this is not known for certain.

Therefore, no one was surprised when, a month later, Scott began to delight fans who believe in worthy ending series, numerous teasers, in which the most curious tried to discern the details of the future game, but none of their theories turned out to be reliable. However, when the trailer came out, the situation changed dramatically. Even those who began to be skeptical of the series, once again believed in its success. Scary and short, but offering a slightly different concept, the trailer couldn't help but set the right mood, making you look forward to the release.

Scott made a real revolution in the series. Five Nights at Freddy's, which was released ahead of schedule (July 25, 2015), despite the repetitive concept, made a rapid leap up in technical capabilities. Everything has changed: the entourage, partly the gameplay, the plot and even the graphics (very solid, especially by the standards of an independent project). Scott managed not only to return the atmosphere of fear, hopelessness and tension, but also multiplied these qualities at times, thereby forcing the second and third parts to fade against the background of the continuation.

This time, we had to play as a nameless boy whose tragic story was gradually revealed in the form of small mini-games after certain nights. Moreover, at first it is not entirely clear how they are connected. However, the brutal ending literally put everything in its place. Every night, the boy had to defend the room from the invasion of frightening animatronics, who tried in every possible way to get to him. Moreover, they looked like the creations of a sick fantasy - collapsed, frightening, with ominously shining red eyes and knives instead of fingers. It sounds similar, but it actually turned out much better. No cameras, no third-party equipment, no battery charges and no masks. We are free to focus only on our own feelings. They ran to the door and listened. Nobody breathes in our ear. Great. We shine in the corridor. Also no one. We run to another door - we repeat the operation. Great. We run up to the bed and shine on Freddie's toy - he sits and does not move. We run to the closet - no one. And so time after time. All this gives rise to real adrenaline sensations, as if we ourselves are forced to crawl around the room and shine into the corridors, afraid that the next creature would not watch us.

To diversify all this, a mini-game “Catch Springtrap” was launched between levels, where, if we caught a rabbit with the light of a lantern at the right time, the next level was reduced by two hours (albeit one time). A trifle, but nice. The animatronics were the same, but on the fifth night, Fredbear (golden bear) was added as the "final boss", who performed the same actions as the others, but more persistently and faster. And then, after the fifth night, something happened that the fans had been waiting for a long time, building numerous theories that turned into ashes in an instant: we were shown the famous "Bite of 87". And they showed it without any pathos and forewords. Fast, hard and unprincipled.

The nights that followed added to the already depressing feeling. And what is most interesting, finally, a strange chest was shown and the inscription that accompanied it: “Some questions must remain unanswered. Bye…". What this meant is not clear, but Scott immediately promised persistent players a small addition that reveals all the plot details. But instead, he released only an update that changes the appearance of the characters, making them more sinister under the entourage of Halloween. And soon special modes were added that either made the passage easier or made it more difficult. For example, a card that reveals opponents could help the player. Or vice versa, the screen went completely black, and we were told to focus only on the sounds.

It would seem, that's all. Scott put an end to the series, closing all the plot details, albeit not explicitly, while making the finale truly memorable. Now that he is raising enough funds and giving half to charity, Scott is free to do whatever he wants. However, either the desire of the fans, or his own interest, or maybe really commercial success make him sit down to develop ... a role-playing game. Moreover, according to the FNaF universe with animatronics in the title role, although she will not be connected with her plot in any way.

As for the secret plot, numerous "holes" and incomprehensible events, Scott painted a vague picture that can be regarded in two ways. But, contrary to the opinions of numerous fans, many theories were unofficially thought out (one of the foreign bloggers came closest to the truth, stating that main character and the boy who had his frontal lobe bitten off - two different person). There were also interesting facts, each of which, to one degree or another, contradicted the year in which the famous bite did occur: in 87 or 83? The problem, it would seem, could be solved by the addition promised by Scott, but it never came out, which means that there is still no clear picture of what is happening. It's a pity.

With regards to the series, to date, Scott has put a fat cross on it, at least in the form of games. All that he wanted to say, he said, while in two years he managed to almost bury the series, and solemnly resurrect it. Despite the pleas of the fans, he is in no hurry to reveal all the cards, and in general he keeps silent in every possible way. And for the impatient, at the end of 2015, he announced the release of ... a novelization. "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Untold Story" is an alternate storyline that runs parallel to the original installments, and there are no concrete details yet.

But that is not all. Recently, the network slipped the news about the film adaptation of the famous horror. It caused both a storm of joy and indignation. We are waiting for the official announcement. Thus, it becomes clear that the development of the series continues outside of video games, but the future will show how everything will end up in practice.

Finally, I want to say that the franchise came out very ambiguous. On the one hand, it revived a long-forgotten subgenre of horror (sit, click and get scared, like in the games of the 80s), had an interesting concept and original opponents, and also a mysterious and incomprehensible, but thought-provoking and juxtaposing story plot. On the other hand, it hasn't really changed. The graphics were the same (except that they got better in the fourth part), the gameplay was the same, and the number of illogical and contradictory moments would have been enough for all four volumes of Marx's Capital. Only the enemies and the tactics of dealing with them changed, but this was not enough. The fourth part, fortunately, was different from the second and third, which almost put it at odds with the rest of the series. And, interestingly, she has more haters than fans who claim that “these childish games” (explained by the fact that many of her fans have not even reached the age of 15) are needed by the author only because of the money.

But, nevertheless, if you look at the situation with a sober look, you can see one thing: the series remains popular to this day. And let her push you away innovative approach and the target audience, it’s still worth trying it for the sake of interest. Especially if you want something fresh in your favorite horror genre.
