How nice it is to walk through your own garden, along its beautiful paths, admire the well-groomed beds and flower beds, and then eat a ruddy apple straight from the branch. But in order for all this splendor to be, a lot of work remains to be done. For the soil to be fertile, you need to add a lot of organic matter. Grass mulching is a great way to keep the soil in good condition. It can be spread out on the beds immediately after mowing or pre-composted. In order for thick stems of greens to decompose more actively, it is recommended to grind them first. You can make your own grass chopper or just buy one.

The choice of finished equipment largely depends on the amount of raw materials to be ground. After all, ground grass is needed not only to fertilize the soil. It will also be useful to those who have a subsidiary farm: chopped greens are added to the feed of livestock and poultry. A small amount of work can be easily dealt with with a regular cut. This is the name of a triangular plate equipped with a strong and sharply sharpened bottom edge.

Chopping is an elementary tool for chopping grass. If the volume of work is small, then a gasoline or electric grass cutter can not be bought or built. Put the chop on the handle and get to work

For work, the cut is placed on a long handle. It allows you not to bend over when doing work. The raw materials to be chopped must be spread out on the ground in a layer of 10-15 cm. The surface should not be hard, and the layer of grass should not be too large. Then the cross section will not become blunt and will not spring. When the cut is hit from top to bottom, the grass is cut into small pieces.

If the volume of processed greens is large enough, you need a solid machine, which this video will help you choose.

Methods for self-manufacturing of the unit

The main purpose of this article is to find ways to independently manufacture the equipment that will be needed on the farm. If you have the desire, patience and minimal skills, you can make a homemade grass chopper that will work just as well, and perhaps even better than the one you buy. Better, because only you yourself know the needs of your farm and can perfectly adapt the device to your own needs. It will be exactly what you need!

Option # 1 - a drill to help you!

An excellent grass cutter can be easily built from a conventional drill. Exactly how this simple device works can be seen in the video below.

So, the grinding process resembles the work of a food processor: in a cylindrical body, the role of which is played by a simple bucket, there is a sharpened knife. When rotating it in a circle at high speed, the grass is dissected. For the manufacture of this grass cutter, a two-mode drill "Temp" with a capacity of 850 watts is used. The knife is made of a hacksaw blade. The whole secret is hidden in the sharpening of the knife. If done correctly, the grass will not wrap around the blade. The knife should remain clean and free of greenery.

The knife is sharpened with one-sided sharpening. It should be oriented with the sharpened plane down. If you have to chop fresh grass, the best shape of the knife will be a narrow diamond, so that the cutting edge comes to naught at an angle to the edges. As a last resort, you can round the blade to a point. Then the grass, which is subjected to centrifugal force, slides along the cutting edge of the knife straight to the edges. It is easily cut and never wrapped around the knife.

Option # 2 - for owners of the Typhoon vacuum cleaner

The working principle of this device is no different from the previous one. It just looks more civilized and its productivity is higher. If in the previous case the grass was already in the container where the cutting tool was placed, now the raw material is fed through the upper hole, and the finished substrate comes out through the lower one, located in the side of the apparatus. To prevent the finished silage from being scattered during pouring, a protective cover must be used for the outlet.

Perhaps such a grass cutter does not look as presentable as a purchased one, but it is functional and almost free. Decide what is more important to you

The chopped grass is collected in a bucket, which must be prudently placed under the outlet. It is clear that when choosing the height of the racks for the unit, it should be borne in mind that a bucket of normal parameters must pass unhindered to place it in the right place. So what does the Typhoon have to do with it? The body from the old Soviet Typhoon vacuum cleaner is ideal for an elementary garden grass chopper: it has a top opening of the most suitable size. Once again, this is ideal. But not the only one!

Any cylindrical container, be it an old saucepan, bucket, or piece of pipe, will work too. The 180 watt motor can be borrowed from an old washing machine. An old hacksaw blade will be used for the knives, and it is recommended to use a rectangular profile of 15x15 mm as racks. Here is a sleeve 40 mm high, on which the knives will be mounted, will have to be turned on a lathe.

The process of making a grass chopper is not as complicated as it seems. In the photo: No. 1 - the case, very convenient, because you can load grass from above, No. 2 - the engine from the washing machine, No. 3 - the location and appearance of the knives

The engine, with the pulley removed, is bolted to the bottom of the container. To clamp the knives, 32 mm diameter plumbing nuts are useful. When making bushings, carefully cut the threads for these nuts. Do not forget about the hole for the motor shaft. In order to have a reliable fixation on the shaft, two holes of 7 mm in diameter are made in the sleeve with an M8 thread cut into them for the locking bolts. On the reverse side of the motor shaft, pads are machined to increase the reliability of fixing the sleeve with locking bolts.

At a height of 15 mm in the upper part of the cylinder, the grinder removed the edges to form a square with a side of 25 mm. Knives will be put on it. To make knives, you need to cut 4 blanks from a hacksaw blade with a grinder. A square hole with a side of 26 mm is cut in the central part of each workpiece. The width of each part depends on the degree of rigidity of the parent metal. It is clear that knives should be placed closer to the bottom. Their cutting edges are sharpened using a sharpener. The bolts securing the sleeve are placed above the blades.

In the photo: No. 4 - a sleeve for fixing the knives and connecting the engine to the body, No. 5 - a square on which the knives will be subsequently fixed, No. 6 - a chopper platform, which is made in the form of a truncated pyramid

If it is not possible to make an outlet for the silo directly under the knives, then it is equipped on the side. To do this, you can make a 7x7 circle with a grinder. Tin is used to form the guide body. The body is attached to the grinder with M3 bolts. The machine platform must be as stable as possible. For this, its base is made larger than the upper part. It should be made as functional and comfortable as possible.

The purpose of the platform is not only to hold the chopper, but also to protect the engine. It is fixed to the container with 3 bolts M 6x45. It is better to cover the side edges of the platform with sheets of tin. In the racks, threads are cut for M3 bolts, with which the sheets are fixed on the platform.

Option # 3 - grass cutter from what was at hand

Armed with the knowledge gained from reading the description of the manufacturing process of the previous unit, you can easily and effortlessly build yourself something just as simple and useful.

This grass cutter is literally made from what was found in the barn. All things have served their purpose for a long time, but in such a design they will certainly be useful to their owner for a long time.

For an elementary grass cutter you will need:

  • pump "Agidel" or any similar electric motor capable of doing 3000 rpm and powered by a network with a voltage of 220V;
  • an old aluminum pan;
  • used hacksaws for wood, from which you can make wonderful knives;
  • to start the engine, a button is needed, the role of which will be perfectly played by the night vision device from the washing machine;
  • plug and power cord.

We invite you to carefully consider the photos, because they do not need special comments. Everything is very clear. Start building a grass chopper and you will be good at it.

Pay attention to how the knives are placed in this herb chopper. It is possible that you will choose this particular model

The engine is mounted under the pan, and the start button is located at the back of the platform for easy reach.

Such grass, chopped with a grass cutter, is perfect for feed for livestock and poultry, as well as for mulching purposes.

Option # 4 - homemade straw chopper

The three previous units have successfully turned grass into silage. But if we need a chopper not only for grass, but also for hay, it is worth taking a closer look at one more invention, which is presented in great detail in the video below.

A Few Safety Caveats

Any device, the creation of which is described above, is equipped with sharp cutting parts. In order for it to serve you for a long time, to bring relief in your work, and not to injure you, observe basic safety precautions when performing work.

If the operation of the unit is connected with electricity, be doubly careful and take the necessary measures. Take special care to ensure that children do not try to turn on the cutter. Better to overdo it than overlook it!

Wondering what to do with the grass that you mowed on the site, foliage, stems and tops? One of the options is to grind the “free resource” and put it into action. Compost or food for small animals. For this you need a grass cutter. Don't want to overpay for the store? Make it yourself, inexpensively, as the portal users did.

Do-it-yourself grass cutter driven by a grinder

Tok2Z FORUMHOUSE user

Birches grow in my dacha. Foliage falls from the trees. We have to clean it up, burn it, clog the compost pit. The foliage rots for a long time. I decided to grind it. This requires a grass cutter. I looked at what they were doing on the Internet. I turned on my brains and that's what I got.

Did you like the inexpensive garden shredder? Read the article further and find out how to make a homemade product from a grinder and a metal tank. Tok2Zacted like this:

  1. He wondered how to twist the chopper knives. The choice is small - to put the engine from the washing machine, or buy an electric motor. According to the user - the motor from the washing machine is weak, and I did not want to buy a three-phase unit, and, to remake it for one phase.
  2. Tok2Zi bought on the market, for 2 thousand rubles, an old grinder with a capacity of 2 kW and knives from a lawn mower for 700 rubles. I ordered an adapter sleeve from a turner, spending another 500 rubles.
  3. I welded a frame, put a galvanized water tank on it. I assembled the structure and turned on the grass cutter.

Tok2Z

The turnovers are crazy. He threw a shovel of leaves into the tank, and they were blown out! Checked where the stream is going. From the edge of the tank, air goes up, and sucks in the middle. I cut out a galvanized ring and installed it in the center of the tank. Threw foliage. The knives crushed it as needed, and it flew into the down tube.

In order to grind the grass into a very fine fraction, the user installed a corner in front of the "exhaust" pipe.

Pipe diameter 10 cm.

The grass cutter chops the leaves directly into the compost pit.

Compare: a bunch of foliage.

Tok2Z

The grass cutter threshes everything - grass, foliage. Sometimes, along with the foliage, a wire comes across. Pebbles. Pieces of metal. The grinder crumbles stones. Iron is not. You have to turn it off, look for garbage and throw it away. The roar is terrible. Among the disadvantages are the thin walls of the tank. Penetrates. I will redo. I will make the tank from a sheet of iron 1-2 mm thick.

Universal grass cutter and corn cutter

Alex Nk FORUMHOUSE user

I also made a grass cutter. Mainly used for chopping grass for poultry. The basis of the homemade product is a kilowatt motor made back in the USSR. I bought it for 1400 rubles. Works great. The engine is three-phase, but converted to work from a 220 Volt network.

Making a homemade grass cutter step by step:

  1. The turner turned the flange.

  1. Holes were drilled and threaded into the flange.

  1. The knives were made from a piece of an old rusty two-handed saw.

  1. The knives were screwed to the flange.

  1. The bed of the grass cutter was made from a sheet of metal 4 mm thick. A strip of metal with a section of 4x40 mm was welded to the square, which was bent around the circumference. A hole was drilled in the center of the bed.

Alex Nk

I bent the strip with a hammer, hitting the metal on the jaws of the vice. The radius was controlled in a circle, tracing it on the bed.

At the finish line, the user welded the legs to the base. Anchored the electric motor. I made a large tank with a lid so that debris would not fly out of the grass cutter while the engine was running.

The tank is removable for ease of use of the herb chopper.

The engine produces 1500 rpm. The grass cutter works almost silently.

Maize cutter from grass cutter

Alex Nkdecided, on the basis of a grass cutter, to make a mechanism for peeling corn. The result is a two-in-one unit. To make a homemade product you need:

  • Cut a disc out of metal.

  • Drill holes in it for M6 bolts.

Tests have shown that the height of the hex head of conventional bolts is sufficient for husking corn. The disc was raised from the base by 4 cm.

  • Remake the base so that the outlet is at the bottom. So the grass is cut into smaller pieces, and the corn is not chopped.

The tilt of the output tray has become steeper, almost vertical. So the grass mass did not clog the hole.

  • The disc was screwed onto the flange.

The tank was redesigned. A “reflector” was attached to it to eject the corn “heads” into the bucket.

Mulch is useful, beneficial, but it does not always look beautiful. In the aisles of the beds, any plant covering material in the form of mulch is acceptable, it does not spoil the view: we understand that there is a production process of growing vegetables, from which there is also a lot of garbage. Therefore, bundles of torn grass do not offend aesthetic feelings, which after a day or two become withered, reddish-yellow, remaining so for quite a long time. Until one day the gardener discovers that they have disappeared somewhere. And if he noticed, he tries to "decorate" his beds with new ones.

But in a flower garden, where every bush is kindly looked after, where every colored bud attracts the eye, where every new flower gives rise to the delight of a florist, bunches of old grass should not spoil the view.

The best option is to chop so that there are no butts, but there is mulch.

Garden grass grinders are sold in online stores. Their price is within 10,000 - 13,000 rubles. What is offered to the buyer for this money?

To put it simply, this is a vat that is mounted on a tripod. An electric motor is located under the vat; it has a power from 1200 watts to 1400 watts for the specified price range. But the engine speed is not indicated. But they will notice that there are no knives, that the trimmer lines that are included in the kit are chopping up garden debris, but then you will have to buy them separately. Which will dramatically increase the cost of the mulch produced.

There is one more small addition - the crushed material must be soft, it is even indicated that these are leaves and grass. But the roots of radishes, which are old, because they did not have time to pick and eat, are no longer soft materials. And the coarse “trunks” of squash and pumpkin cannot be called soft either. This means that they cannot be crushed.

Russian manufacturers are not so serious about protecting engine parameters.

It turns out that for grinding grass and root crops, that is, rather coarse materials, you need an electric motor with a power of only 1.1 kW and (attention! - this is the most important thing) with a rotation frequency of 3000 rpm, while the power consumption does not exceed one and a half kilowatts. The device is able not only to grind carrots, but also thin branches, stems of sunflowers, "trunks" of ornamental plants from a flower garden: verbascums, lupins, buckwheat .... And this miracle works from a network with a voltage of 220 volts.
Such an engine can be bought in the same online stores for 3000 rubles.

Everything else is the homework of a skilled gardener.

Only for the manufacture of knives you need special steel, the metalworkers will tell you what kind, and the knives themselves will make. It is best to have two sets of knives, one for soft grass and one for woody plants. Although you can get by with one.
We have had such a home-made apparatus for thirty years, with one set of knives, they have to be sharpened only once a season.

Safety engineering.

This is not a toy for children. And an adult should be careful.

Work clothes.

Like any work on the site, there is also an opportunity to stain a beautiful outfit for the garden, therefore it is better to tear the grass, cut out rough stems and turn it all into mulch in working clothes. But you need to throw vegetable waste into the shredder receiver without gloves or mittens.

You can grind the grass more, but then it turns into porridge. And it stops playing the role of mulch.

A do-it-yourself feeder can be made from any material at hand. At the same time, the savings will be quite tangible. For example, a homemade feed cutter can be made from a gas cylinder or bucket, an old washing machine, a grinder, and more. This is quite simple to do, with the appropriate drawings at hand.

Making a feed cutter from a gas cylinder or bucket

A feed chopper is an indispensable tool in the household. With its help, it is possible in the shortest possible time to grind raw materials intended for the preparation of feed mixtures for livestock and poultry. Shredded feed is absorbed much faster, which allows you to speed up the growth of the household.

Sometimes the cost of a device with which livestock and poultry can be provided with high-quality chopped feed is beyond the reach of the farmer. But, an analogue can be made at home from improvised material. For example, a feed chopper can be made from a gas cylinder or bucket.

A grass cutter, a do-it-yourself feed cutter is made from half a gas cylinder, which can be replaced with a durable bucket. To begin with, you need to make two parts from the balloon. From one of them, you will need to cut off the bottom, and then make cuts over the entire surface. They should be staggered, about 10 millimeters wide. In order to give the slots of the required shape, you need a punch, with the help of which the lower part of the slots remains flat, and the upper part takes on a rounded shape. With this, the homemade feed chopper will have the appropriate notch.

Both ends of the gas bottle should be trimmed with steel strips, for which rivets are best suited. In order to stretch steel rods into a homemade food chopper, which can be made from a gas cylinder, two more strips with a hole with a diameter of 10 millimeters must be added to the existing strips. Welding is recommended for a secure fixation of the strip.

After completing these manipulations, you can proceed to work with the handles. To do this, you need to bend them. On the part that has remained flat, you need to place a housing with bearings. The final stage in the manufacture of a feed cutter from a gas cylinder is the construction of a stand. It is recommended to make it out of wood. A wooden table is suitable as a stand, on which you will need to install a homemade structure from a gas cylinder. It is necessary to install a box on the table in which the raw materials for grinding will be laid. A container for chopped raw materials is installed at the bottom of the feed cutter. It can be the second part of the gas cylinder.

Grinder feeder

A forage grinder, grass cutter can be made at home from a grinder. It is quite simple to do this, having an illustrative example in the form of devils, which can be different. As an example, consider the following drawing.

The grinder feed cutter provides for the use of a bucket made of stainless steel, in which holes must be made with a diameter of 15 millimeters. The bottom of the bucket will also have a hole that is 1 centimeter in diameter. At the next stage of the grass cutter, the grinder feed chopper will be equipped with a frame. It can be made by welding and metal corners. A flange and glands are required in order to make a secure attachment of the bucket and frame. Thus, an electric grass cutter, a forage grinder acquires a moving part - a drum, which is the main element of a home-made structure.

The future electric grass cutter, forage chopper should be equipped with a hopper in which raw materials are placed for processing. You can make it from a bucket, from which you need to remove the bottom. The work of the electric forage grinder comes from a grinder, which is fastened with bolts to a flange located at the back of the structure. An electric cutter, a feed chopper can work with different performance, which depends on the speed of the grinder.

Washing machine feeder

If the previous options for the manufacture of home-made devices for grinding feed for pets and poultry could be made without drawings, then a grass cutter, a feed cutter made from a washing machine, cannot do without them. An example of what a drawing could be is the following image:

A grass cutter, a do-it-yourself feed cutter, made from a washing machine, provides for the use of an engine and a tank. The initial stage of work consists in making an opening in the rear wall of the tank from the washing machine, into which the motor shaft can be easily placed. The fastening bolts provide 4 holes, which you will need to make around the edges. Next, you need to decide on a place for making a hole through which the crushed raw material will enter the receiving hopper.

The shredder should be bolted to the motor shaft. This appliance will work more efficiently if it is prudently equipped with two knives. It is recommended to install one of the knives at the bottom of the structure. Its job is to lift the placed raw material as well as push the already crushed material into the hopper. The purpose of the second knife is to directly chop feed, grass.

As a support, it is necessary to use a metal structure resembling a stool. To it with the help of bolts, you will need to attach the finished structure. For economical chopping of raw materials, the grass cutter can be equipped with a cover to prevent waste of raw materials. But, there must be a hole in it through which raw materials will flow for processing.

The grinding of raw materials placed in such a homemade structure depends solely on how long it was processed. For ease of use, the hole through which the crushed raw material leaves the hopper can be closed with a flap, which will allow you to control the degree of its grinding.

The option of making a home-made device for grinding feed, grass, root crops from a washing machine can be called the most optimal. Indeed, working for an hour, the feed cutter is able to process up to 100 kilograms of feed. The high operating power allows you to make the productivity high, despite the fact that the device was manufactured at home.

It is definitely worth getting a feed cutter, because with its help you can grind raw materials in a matter of minutes and prepare feed mixtures on its basis, which will contain all the vitamins and nutrients necessary for the growth of livestock, poultry. If you do not want to spend money on purchasing a ready-made model of a forage grinder, you can make it yourself, while the quality of the product at the output will not suffer.

As an illustrative example, you can use the following videos, which will demonstrate the principle of operation of popular models of home-assembled forage grinders. However, if you decide to purchase ready-made equipment, then you can familiarize yourself with the range of reliable feed cutters.

Video review

Caring for a personal plot itself involves painstaking and laborious work. Otherwise, you will get some kind of jungle and slums in a particular area of \u200b\u200byours. To prevent this from happening, you need to constantly engage in pruning trees, harvesting grass, fertilizing the soil with organic matter, watering vegetation and many other operations that will ensure beauty, order and harvest in the garden and vegetable garden. The question arises of what to do with the grass and branches gathered on the site. It can be piled up and burned, after which ash can be used as top dressing. But it's better to chop it up, put it in a compost pit and get excellent, free organic fertilizer for your site. How to do it? First of all, you need to determine the amount of work. If this is a small pile of grass and branches, and your site takes up little space, then it is quite possible to get by with a hand tool - a chopping. This is a triangular plate made of 65G alloy tool steel. The bottom edge must be sharpened. The convenience and productivity of your work depends on its sharpness.

For convenient use, the cut is equipped with a long handle, then you can chop the grass without bending over. Everything that needs to be chopped is laid on a soft surface in a small layer. The grass and branches are chopped into small pieces for further use by reciprocating blows of the cut. Chopping raw materials on a solid base is not recommended due to the rapid failure of the sharpening section. This is a fairly effective and simple method, depending on the amount of processing. If you have a lot of grass and branches, it is better to use the special technique presented in this video.

Of course, there are a lot of special equipment in stores, but talented people always strive to make it on their own, then working with it is more pleasant and the money saved can be used for a lot of useful acquisitions.

It would be quite possible to buy an agricultural unit for chopping grass and branches, because most gardeners do not like chopping them manually, but the cost of such an apparatus will significantly hit your pocket, which is why we offer you options for instructions on creating a homemade chopper for grass and branches.

Homemade chopper of grass and branches using a drill

Let's start with the elementary. For chopping grass and branches, we will not invent something super brilliant, but use an electric drill. Preparing for the creation of such a simple device will take you a little time and effort. First of all, you must have:

  • a two-mode electric drill with a power of at least 850 W;

  • bearing 202 with housing;

  • shaft for fastening the knife;

  • hacksaw blade;

  • stool;

  • an ordinary bucket.

The process of chopping grass is like a vegetable cutter. The assembly of the device is simple. In the old stool we drill a hole with a diameter of 12 mm, from the back side we fasten the housing with a 2o2 bearing with countersunk head bolts. We install a bucket on the stool, having previously drilled a hole of the same diameter in the center of the bottom. We attach the bucket to the stool with screws. We install the shaft in the bearing seat and attach the knife, previously made of high-speed steel P18. Further, from the bottom of the stool to the shaft shank through a keyless chuck, we attach a two-mode drill. The shredder is ready. We put raw materials into the bucket and start the drill. The grass is crushed to the required size. After the drill is turned off and the bucket is cleared of the finished mulch. The design is designed for low recycling. After completing the work, we remove the drill and use it to perform other tasks.

Particular attention should be paid to the manufacture and sharpening of the knife, which must be one-sided. The sharpened plane of the knife must be oriented downward. For chopping up fresh grass, it is best to use a diamond-shaped knife. This will be a narrow rhombus with a cutting edge at an angle to the edges. It is also possible to round the blade. Then the grass under the influence of centrifugal force will slide along the cutting edge of the knife straight to the edge. With this sharpening, it will be easy to grind and not wrap around the knife.

An electric drill can be used to chop grass in the simplest way. We take a large bucket, you can apply from under the Litol-24 grease, with a capacity of 17 liters. We put the grass in it. We cut a thread on a bar with a diameter of 10-12 mm and install the cutting tool. Then we insert the bar into the chuck of the drill and chop the grass in the bucket. It should be noted that this is a rather unsafe method, so if you decide to use an electric drill, adopt the previously proposed option. It will require a little more effort, but this method is less traumatic.

Another option for using small-scale mechanization tools is the use of an angle grinder, or simply a grinder for the manufacture of a garden shredder. As in other home-made devices, we use an old container as a bunker. We drill a hole in the bottom to install the cutting tool. We make a metal base and adapt the grinder to it, securing it with clamps, as shown in the photo.

The next option for making a shredder for grass and branches is a more modernized device.

Homemade grass and branch shredder from an old vacuum cleaner

The principle of operation of the new mechanism does not differ from the previous version. But the main advantages of the design using the Typhoon vacuum cleaner are stationary placement, increased productivity and efficiency in collecting the crushed product. The use of the housing and engine of the above-mentioned device is optional, it is just the best suited to making a chopper for grass and branches with your own hands. In the absence of a Typhoon vacuum cleaner, you can be smart and adapt another brand of device to the mechanism.

The new shredder, in contrast to the previous one, in which the grass was already in a bucket with knives, provides for the supply of raw materials and the discharge of the finished silage through the lower side opening. To reduce the spreading of grass, a protective casing is made in its structure, which directs the silage to a receiving container. As a rule, a basin or bucket is used for it. This must be taken into account when dimensioning the height of the racks for the unit.

We use the body of the vacuum cleaner as a receiving container. An electric motor from an old washing machine with a power of 180 W is ideal for driving the cutting knives. We make knives from old hacksaws. For the frame, you can use a corner 25x25x3. We make the knife mounting sleeve, 40 mm long, on a lathe.

We remove the pulley from the electric motor and fix it with pins from the bottom of the container. It is advisable to use M32 nuts as a reliable fastening of the knives. During the manufacture of the bushings, threads are cut. In addition, it is necessary to drill two holes and cut an M8 thread for the fixing bolts. On the shaft of the electric motor, special platforms are grinded for reliable fixation of the sleeve with stoppers.

At a height of 15 mm of the sleeve, use an angle grinder to make a square section with a side of 25 mm for installing the knives. After that, we start making knives, for this we cut 4 plates from a hacksaw blade. In the center of each of them we make a square hole with a size of 25x25. The task is to ensure that the knife fits snugly on a previously prepared seat on the shaft. We select the width of the knife depending on its thickness and rigidity. We sharpen knives on a sharpening machine. We fix the sleeve with locking bolts above the knives.

It is advisable to make an outlet for chopped grass under the knives, but if this is not technically possible, it is made in the side. To do this, cut a 7x7 cm square hole with an angle grinder. Bend the guides for the silo outlet from thin metal and attach them to the grinder with M3 bolts.

The base of the device should be as stable as possible, primarily for the safety of the electric motor. It is attached to the grinder with 6x45 bolts. For ease of use and protection of the electric motor, we sew the base with sheet metal 0.8 mm thick using self-tapping screws for metal.

You can make a shredder of grass and branches from the body and some parts of an old washing machine. Such a product will be no less effective than its industrial counterpart.

Homemade shredder for grass and branches from a washing machine

The basis of this shredder is similar to that of a food processor.

The design is based on several fairly sharp knives, which, rotating at high speed, crush plant debris. The knives themselves are placed in a special container.

The container is desirably cylindrical in shape.

The upper part of the shredder must necessarily have a container in which the grass or branches will be placed.

In the side of the apparatus, it is necessary to design a second hole through which the recycled material will flow.

In order to prevent the resulting composition from scattering over the nearby area, a special box is used that closes the hole and guides the raw material into the prepared container (receiver).

An ordinary tin bucket can be used as a receiver. In this case, it is necessary to think over the size of the racks for the support of the structure so that the bucket fits freely under it.

Chopper of grass and branches from what was

Knowing how to make a grass cutter with your own hands, you can make it simply from what is in the barn and has been shifted from place to place for a long time, because it is a pity to throw it away.

An electric motor with a rotational speed of zooo rpm and adapted for a 220V power supply network, a conventional asynchronous motor is also possible, but then it will have to be redone, which is also possible.

  1. Any round container of suitable size.
  2. High-speed steel P18 or hacksaws for wood, for the manufacture of cutting tools.
  3. Start button, or PNVS from an old washing machine.

Do-it-yourself grass and branch chopper important little things

We suggest taking a closer look at the principle of assembling a homemade shredder for grass and branches:

Top container

Using a grinder, cut off the rounded part from the washing machine or take an ordinary saucepan and cut a hole on the side for the processed material to exit. Cover the side hole with metal sheets.

Attach the knives to the bottom of the container.

Knives and racks

Debris knives can be made from old saws.

The uprights that support the structure are made of durable, stable material, the width of which is set by you, legs from an old stool are perfect.

Shredding knives are fixed on a special sleeve, which can be made independently or to order on a turning equipment.

It must be at least 50 cm tall.

To select a suitable diameter, you need to be guided by the size of the nuts that are used to clamp the blades. The most optimal type of nuts for such operations is plumbing.

Engine

The engine is fastened to the container with the help of special clamps that pull it together.

Before starting work, you need to remove the pulley from the engine of the washing machine (it will not be useful in subsequent work).

In accordance with the size of the diameter of the motor shaft of the washing machine, the size of the inner diameter of the hole located in the upper part of the cylinder is determined.

M8 threads are applied to these holes for special bolts. Before fixing the bushing, small indents are made to the washing machine motor shaft from different sides.

Bottom container

The outlet for the crushed composition should be located under the blades.

If you cannot make a cut at the bottom of the upper container, then make it on the side. Be sure to consider where the washing machine motor will be located.

A box for collecting shredded material can be created from tin tools at hand.

It is fixed to the container walls by means of several bolts. The box structure consists of two parts - inner and outer.

In such a simple way from scrap materials you can make yourself a faithful assistant in housekeeping.
