And at the same time, without a central sewage system, the owners of the houses are faced with a very urgent question - the arrangement of a septic tank with their own hands.

There are many options for septic tanks - from expensive custom-made ones to various homemade ones. One of the most popular is septic tank made from old car tires... It does not require special financial and time costs for its construction, it is easy to install and use.

Profitability - does not require the purchase of expensive materials. You can do all the work yourself;
Environmental friendliness - high-quality filtration of waste water;
Long term of use - tires do not break, do not crack, do not corrode. 20 years of system operation is provided;

The design of such a treatment system allows wastewater to seep through natural crushed stone filters, and seep into the ground when already treated. In the cleaning process, subject to a special temperature regime, bacteria that feed on organic substances and emit gases into the environment are mandatory.

In order for all the processes in the septic tank from tires to occur normally, special attention should be paid to the insulation of the sewer pit. Polystyrene, wood shavings and just earth, poured over the lid of a septic tank in winter, can serve as insulation.

Diagram of a septic tank made of tires, do it yourself

1. Choosing the right place... When choosing a place for a sewage pit, you should take into account some features of the terrain, so as not to get to the groundwater source, also observe one more condition - all sources of drinking water (wells, columns) must be at a distance of at least 25 m from the sewer pit.

2. Earthmoving work... In order to guess the size of the pit under the septic tank, you need to put a car tire in the right place, circle its contour. Note that digging a hole should be slightly larger, about 5-7 cm. This is done so that the car tire easily and accurately lies on its workplace. If a pit is dug of a much larger size, then the tires will disperse and interfere with proper cleaning of sewage. There is no need to resort to the services of earthmoving equipment when installing this septic tank - every man armed with the right tool can handle this work. When choosing a tool for work, give preference to a shovel with a short handle, the handle will not catch on the sides of the pit and the digging process will go faster and more productively. Pick up a crowbar as an assistant to the shovel - it will be irreplaceable if the soil turns out to be rocky.

3. Putting tires in a pit... Having dug a hole about 150 cm deep, use sand and gravel to make a drainage cushion at the bottom of the drainage pit, which will eventually become muddy and will fulfill the duties of a natural natural filter. After that, you can start laying car tires. 6-7 tires can fit into such a hole. Before laying, cut off the middle of the tire a little and thus increase the volume of the sewer pit. Having laid 5 tires, cut a round hole in the 5th tire and insert the drain pipe into it, put another tire on top - with the inner edges uncut. Be sure to fill the space between the soil and the septic tank with rubble, which, in turn, will further improve the filtration of wastewater.

4. Septic tank cover... The sewer system is ready - it's time to think about a hatch that will not only protect against excessive moisture in the form of rain from entering the purification system, but also prevent small pets and small children from entering the septic tank. Pick up the hatch cover heavier so that an adult trained person can move it.

However, in order not to crush the tires under its weight, bury boulders around the entire perimeter of the drainage pit, or make them out of cement.

With long-term operation of the septic tank, its bottom is heavily silted up. This interferes with filtration, the pit becomes clogged and, if you do not take care of pumping out the sewage in time, the wastewater will flow in the opposite direction, that is, from the sink or toilet bowl. The services of a sewer will help you avoid such an annoying prospect.

This design of a septic tank is able to "serve" the needs of a family of two, so if your family consists of a larger number of residents, pay attention to a slightly improved design. The structure consists of several holes dug at a distance of at least 1 m from one another. These pits are connected to each other by pipes, and each subsequent pipe is connected to the system at a lower distance than the previous one. Thanks to such a system, the consistency of the sewage is distributed.

So, the heaviest ones settle in the first pit, while the subsequent pits serve as treatment facilities. By the way, leave the pumping hatch only at the first pit with sewage. The rest will cope with the load thanks to a properly installed drainage system.

Cons of the cleaning system from car tires
The service life of the structure does not exceed 20 years;
It is not always possible to comply with sanitary standards when installing this septic tank;
A flood can lead to an environmental disaster in the form of a spill of sewage and its entry into groundwater;
Weak septic tank tightness can cause environmental pollution.

Having weighed all the pros and cons and deciding to install this particular septic tank on your site, give yourself three days to install it! It is this time that the construction of this structure will take.

Subject to rare seasonal attendance at the dacha (for example, only for watering the beds or harvesting), there is no need to install expensive purification stations or septic tanks for sewerage. A sewer system that works without maximum load will do without a simple pit, the walls of which are assembled from old car tires.

In such a pit, you can throw both water from showers and sinks, and the contents of household toilets. And construction work does not require any special skills from the owners. The cost of sewerage will be extremely low. After all, the main building material is often obtained free of charge from friends or neighbors who have replaced the old tires of their car with new ones.

Advantages and disadvantages

At first glance, such a sewer pit has many advantages:

  • it can cost the owners for free;
  • construction takes a maximum of one day;
  • tires of any size can be used;
  • you can build alone.

However, such a structure also has serious shortcomings, such as:

  • short service life (on average up to 10 years);
  • poor tightness of the sections (in fact, its absence);
  • the presence of an unpleasant odor;
  • low productivity;
  • inexpediency of repair or dismantling.

In addition, this type of structure is absolutely unsuitable for areas with a high level of moisture in the soil.

The penetration of sewage waste into surface and ground waters is fraught with the spread of infections dangerous to human health.

Principle of operation

The pit is actually a sump with the ability to filter the contents into the surrounding soil. Through the gaps in the walls, the liquid gradually goes into the soil, and large organic matter settles to the bottom. Rotting is an obligatory attribute of the pit.

At the same time, one cannot equate a classic cesspool with a septic tank made of tires! The latter has a much rarer pumping out with the involvement of sewage equipment.

If desired, the simplest purification system can be built from the tires. For this, two pits (wells) are interconnected by overflow pipes. The primary settling tank takes up most of the large organic impurities. The second chamber contains only partially clarified water, which is quickly absorbed into the ground.

In this case, the decomposition processes will accelerate and the presence of the sewer odor will be partially reduced.

How does it work?

A hole for tires is dug only in areas with deep groundwater occurrence! The minimum distance from the bottom of the structure to the upper water layer is 100 centimeters.

Consideration should also be given to the possible risk of contamination of drinking water. Therefore, the pit is placed taking into account the characteristics of the soil and the distance to the well or well. For sandstones it is 30 meters, and for clay soils it is 20 meters. The structure is separated from residential buildings by at least 5-6 meters.

It is advisable to locate the structure on the natural slope of the site, that is, below the water intake level. Pipes and the sewer tank itself must be placed below the freezing point of the soil in a particular region! Some resourceful owners enclose both the pipes and the capacity of the septic tank in a special box of wood. This engineering feature prevents deformation in the event of possible freezing of the soil.

What materials are suitable?

As mentioned above, you can use any tires. Naturally, these will be already used, worn out products. But wear will not affect the safety of tires in the ground in any way - rubber does not rot and does not react with aggressive media.

To increase the volume of the structure, it is advisable to choose tires from large vehicles (if possible) - trucks, tractors, buses. Tires for domestic passenger cars have a metal frame that provides additional rigidity.

How to build?

For work, you will need the following tools and materials:

shovel and bayonet shovel;

  • rubber knife;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • sewer pipes;
  • wire for fastening structural parts;
  • cover (hatch) of a suitable diameter;
  • sand for sprinkling, but ordinary soil can be used;
  • tires in the amount of 5-7 pieces (this will be required to service two or three people).

A phased installation looks like this:

  1. Marking is made for both sections of the septic system. To do this, place the tire on the ground and mark the perimeter.
  2. A common pit is dug with a small margin to ensure free play when the tires are lowered. The bottom of the pit can be covered with sand, clay (additional tightness is provided) or filled with concrete (such a base prevents deformation when soil heaving).
  3. Construction details are being prepared - the upper part of each tire is removed with a jigsaw, which ensures the most even surface of the walls (the sewage will have nothing to linger on).
  4. The tires are alternately lowered into the pit and tied with wire. Additional tightness can be achieved by lubricating the joints with rubber glue.
  5. An overflow pipe is installed between the wells (approximately two-thirds from the bottom of the structure).
  6. Sewerage is connected to the first well. For this, a hole is cut in the tire. A rubber sleeve and sealant are used for connection.
  7. The pit is covered with soil or sand. The backfill is carefully compacted around the perimeter of the structure.
  8. A cover is installed on top. This can be a polymer hatch, iron or wooden cover.
  9. Around the driveway is being set up in case of a call for sewers. On this, the construction work is considered completed.

And in order to get rid of the unpleasant smell, it is necessary to install a fan pipe. The closer the sewer drain is to residential buildings, the higher the pipe should be. Also, much depends on the prevailing winds in a particular area. It is better to locate the structure so that the wind carries the smell away from the house.

Errors made during installation are as follows:

  • the slope of the main pipeline is not respected - waste slowly flows down, the pipe becomes clogged;
  • the level between the inlet and outlet pipes is not maintained - the overflow pipe must be
  • below the incoming sewer, between the wells, it is also located at a slope of 20 centimeters;
  • the structure is located above the freezing point of the soil - pipes suffer in winter;
  • the structure is immersed in groundwater - working containers silted up, often float up, the infection enters the soil.

Construction cost

If the owners did not manage to get tires for free, you can purchase a used set of two pieces of these products at a price of 1,200 rubles. There are also cheaper options.

Construction work is carried out independently or with the involvement of an excavator and a plumber. The range of prices for earthworks ranges from 240-600 rubles per one cubic meter of volume. Plumbing services will cost from 500 rubles (relevant for the Moscow region).

How to operate?

The use of such a sewage system is subject to all basic rules applicable to any sewer system.

A properly installed sewerage system implies:

  • ensuring the proper slope of the pipes connected to the storage tank (septic tank, pit);
  • the absence of sharp turns, which reduce the flow rate and lead to the formation of fatty blockages;
  • insulation of the cover (hatch or top ceiling).

To avoid problems with operation, you must:

  • Timely remove the contents of the storage tank. Sludge is pumped out using sewage equipment or a powerful household-type fecal pump.
  • Prevent large debris from entering the system - scraps of fabric, plastic bags, feminine hygiene items, large food waste, foreign objects.
  • Regularly add biological preparations containing bacteria cultures that process sewage waste to the drain.

It is when such simple operating rules are observed that comfortable use of the sewer system is guaranteed for owners of a summer cottage or a country house.

Sewerage from car tires and its device

Many summer residents, arriving at their site, stay there overnight or spend their entire vacation looking after their garden. And the presence of an autonomous sewage system greatly facilitates their living, bringing them closer to urban conditions at least to some extent.

Making a sewer from tires is not a big deal and does not require practically any financial costs, while the installation of a modern sewage system is expensive.

Old car tires can be a good budget option for a small septic tank or cesspool if the volume of drains is small, which happens when people are not permanently living in the country. In addition, a tire sewer device does not require special knowledge and skills in construction.

Advantages of a tire septic tank and its disadvantages

The most important advantage of such a septic tank is:

  • almost zero cost, unlike other types of septic tanks;
  • car tires from any technique can be used;
  • easy installation that one person can handle.

The disadvantages of a septic tank from car tires include:

  • fragility of such a structure, no more than 10-15 years; unreliable sealing due to tire mobility;
  • the appearance of unpleasant odors, which can only be eliminated by the device of a fan pipe;
  • repair of such a septic tank is almost never done, as well as dismantling, due to its uselessness.

How to dig a sewer

High groundwater table

First of all, you need to find out at what level the groundwater is located in your area. To do this, close to the house, at a distance of about one meter, you should dig a hole 1.5 m deep. If no puddles of water have formed at the bottom, you can safely start building an autonomous sewage system.

You can buy old car tires at any car service. It is better to choose larger diameter tires from tractors or heavy vehicles. In this case, the volume of your septic tank will increase. The number of tires is calculated based on the depth of soil freezing in your area. It is necessary that the depth of the sewer pit from car tires be below the level of soil freezing. This is done if you intend to use your septic tank in the winter, even if periodically.

Secondly, after the car tires are already on your site, you need to choose a place for the future septic tank.

Remember that it should be located at least 25-30 meters from sources of drinking water - wells, wells, as well as from a river, lake or pond.

The location of the cesspool or septic tank from car tires, however, like any other, is influenced by the direction of the winds in your area. It is necessary to place the septic tank in the direction from which the unpleasant smell will not be carried by the wind to the living space.

Having chosen a place, they decide the question of how to dig out the sewage system - by hand or hire a small excavator. It's all about time and the presence of male hands. You can dig by hand, but it will take longer than digging a hole with an excavator. And to hire a technique - you will need to invest some financial resources. The choice, of course, is up to you.

When the hole is dug, several holes are drilled in its bottom with a garden drill, into which two perforated special pipes up to 4 meters long are inserted.

This is due to the fact that the water from the septic tank will go into the soil, where it self-purifies.

The bottom of the pit is cleaned, giving it a flat surface, and a layer of gravel or crushed stone 15-20 cm high is poured.Pipes inserted into the drilled holes should protrude 60-70 cm above the level of the bottom of the pit, and their top should be covered with polypropylene nets so that solid sewage waste did not get inside the pipes.

Before stowing the tires, trim off all the edges that are wrapped in, so that solid fecal waste does not accumulate in these places. Tire trimming can be done using a metal hacksaw or a jigsaw.

To the dug hole, you still need to dig a trench into which the sewer pipe will be laid, leading from the country house from plumbing fixtures - a sink, toilet, shower or bath. The trench should be dug in compliance with the slope from the house to the septic tank. The slope should be made in such a way that the wastewater can drain into the septic tank by gravity.

This is followed by the installation of sewage from car tires. The cut tires are stacked on top of each other, having previously laid a liquid sealant between them.

The top cover should protrude somewhat from the ground surface.

Top tire location

Backfilling of the space between the pit walls and the tires is done after the sealant has hardened. Excess soil left after backfill can be used for other needs.

When backfilling, it is possible to fill in coarse gravel between the car tires and the walls of the pit, which will not allow the soil to silt and will become an extra outlet for wastewater through the cracks that invariably form between the tires, no matter how they are sealed.

The upper car tire is covered with a cover made of polypropylene, sheet metal or other material that is resistant to moisture and temperature extremes.

To get rid of the unpleasant odor, the septic tank is equipped with a fan exhaust pipe, which should rise above the septic tank.

The length of the hood depends on:

  • places where the septic tank is located,
  • prevailing winds in the area.

The closer the septic tank is to a residential building, the higher the chimney should be.

The top of the septic tank can be decorated with ground cover plants, they do not require a lot of soil to grow, they can grow, practically, on stones. And you can lift the lid to check the level of the sewage system right with the plants.

Tire septic tank - do-it-yourself affordable sewage system

Equipping your home with all the benefits of civilization is the main task of a good owner. Fortunately, now there is every opportunity to bring electricity to the residential building and organize the water supply. But the centralized sewage system is not everywhere. If you have enough funds, you can purchase a ready-made factory septic tank or build it, for example, from concrete rings. In the case when things are not very good with finances, craftsmen come to the rescue, who came up with the idea of making a septic tank out of tires with their own hands. This is a very good idea, but only suitable for a home with a small number of tenants.

What is the difference between a septic tank and a cesspool?

To people who are not particularly knowledgeable, it may seem that a cesspool and a septic tank are different names for the same sewer structure. This is fundamentally wrong. A septic tank, in contrast to a cesspool, is a more modern and modernized type of sewage system.

It consists of two interconnected reservoirs. Wastewater flows through the sewer pipe into the first - storage. Primary cleaning takes place in it: large particles settle to the bottom and cleaning bacteria begin to process them. The second tank, which is usually somewhat smaller than the first, receives already partially purified wastewater, where the bacteria continue to work. Approximately 95% of the total volume that enters the septic tank is ultimately discharged as clean water.

Scheme of a standard two-chamber septic tank with a filtration well

If we compare all the characteristics of a cesspool and a septic tank, then the indisputable advantage of a septic sewage system will become clear and obvious. It shows much more efficiency.

Advantages of a septic tank made of car tires

  • Availability and abundance of material. You can save up old tires on your own or ask for them at the nearest tire shop. They will be willingly given away, because the service station employees will have fewer problems with the disposal of tires.
  • Outstanding performance. If you calculate everything correctly and responsibly approach the construction of a homemade septic tank from tires, then you can achieve even greater efficiency than some factory copies.
  • Low cost. The device of a sewer well from tires can be completely free if the tires are assembled on their own, and hired workers are not involved in the excavation work.
  • Ease of installation. To install many factory septic tanks, you have to use more than one additional pair of hands, and the sewage system from tires with your own hands is so easy to install that you can do everything without anyone's help.
A septic tank made from used tires does not have the longest service life.
  • This sewerage facility is not suitable for use in homes with more than 3 people.
  • In winter, the use of a septic tank from tires is difficult, because despite careful insulation, the tire material still freezes and the contents of such a well are not processed by bacteria.
  • Whatever size tires are installed, their contents will have to be pumped out at least once a quarter.
  • Twice a year, it is necessary to inspect the connections between the tires in order to identify leaks in time and seal the joints.
  • The service life of such a country septic tank made of tires, even with careful care and careful operation, is no more than 15 years.
  • If you do not install a ventilation pipe, an unpleasant odor may occasionally appear from under the lid of the septic tank.
  • It is not recommended to overhaul a septic tank made from old car tires with your own hands, therefore, if the tire material is corroded, it is necessary to redo everything again.

If all the pros and cons are weighed and a decision is made in favor of building a sewer from tires, you can get to work.

On our site there is a separate article about a cesspool for a private house - a diagram and its features. Types and materials for the device.

And we also have material on how to make a shower with your own hands for a summer residence.

Location requirements

Installation

So, what is required before you make a septic tank out of tires. To begin with, it is necessary to bring communications to the location of the future septic tank. The sewer pipe must be insulated and protected with a box to protect it from freezing and damage. After that, we determine the depth and width of the pit.

The dimensions of the septic tank should correspond to the average daily volume of waste, multiplied by three. Based on this, we select the diameter and number of tires.

Putting one of the tires on the ground, you need to draw the boundaries of the pits for the septic tank. A gap between the outside of the tire and the soil can be left for easy insertion of tires and for additional insulation of the septic tank. Then we dig holes for the tanks and dig in the tires. The upper liquid level should always be below the soil level. This must be taken into account when laying tires.

Digging with our own hands a pit for sewage from tires

The bottom of the first container of the septic tank must be covered with rubble (approximately 30 cm) and lined with some material that does not allow liquid to enter the ground. If funds allow, you can concrete. In budget options, the most popular are materials such as roofing felt or very dense polyethylene in several layers.

The device of a septic tank implies the discharge of settled water directly into the ground, therefore, in the bottom of the second well, for better drainage, you can make a five-meter well with a drill and insert a perforated flexible plastic pipe there. It will need to be covered with rubble by about 10 cm so that the bottom does not get silted up and the water flows through without obstacles. Inside the tank from the tires, the pipe should rise by one meter, and it is better to cover its top with a fine mesh. Around the pipe, the bottom must also be covered with rubble and sand. But with a good level of water absorption by the soil, only the use of the filter bottom will be sufficient in the last tank.

Tire sewage scheme

For structural strength, the edges of the tires are connected with wire or mounting "clamps", and then treated with any available sealant.

Tires are trimmed so that liquid does not accumulate in them and are connected to each other using clamps

Now you need to make holes for the pipe in both tanks. In the first container, the pipe must enter a little higher than it exits in order for the overflow to occur. We insert the pipe and fill the edges of the pit with rubble and sand. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the structure. The places where the sewer pit from the tires is connected to the pipes are well sealed.

We bring the sewer pipe to the car tires

The last step in creating a septic tank from tires with your own hands will be to fix the lid from a material that is not subject to decay or damage. Thick plastic is best.

From this material, you will learn how to properly make a sewage system in a private house. The nuances of external and internal communications.

Another inexpensive material for a septic tank is barrels. Find out how to make a wastewater treatment plant with their help.

How the pressure switch for pumping equipment is arranged is described here http://okanalizacii.ru/vodosnabzhenie/nasosy-i-stancii/rele-davleniya-vody-dlya-nasosa.html

  • The sewage system in a private house made of tires is best located on the leeward side of the house. This simple technique will allow you to protect yourself from the "enjoyment" of unpleasant odors coming from under the sewer cover.
  • In order not to worry about the overcrowding of the drain, it is better to initially install tires with the maximum possible diameter and in the amount of 5-7 pieces. In this case, even with the permanent residence of three people in the house, the volume of the septic tank will be enough.
  • While digging holes for each of the tanks, it is necessary to periodically check the diameter with one tire so as not to gradually narrow.
  • When excavating, it is most convenient to use two different shovels with long cuttings. The bayonet is intended for loosening the earth, and the shovel is for picking out the loosened soil from the pit.
  • To the septic tank from the tires, you can bring not only sewer communications from the house, but also from the street washbasin or summer shower.
  • The inner rim of the tires must be cut off so that unprocessed dirt and debris do not accumulate in the curves.
  • It is best to use plastic clips to secure the tires. They are not prone to moisture damage and are fairly easy to attach.
  • The ventilation pipe should rise slightly above the septic tank cover (at least 60 cm). The closer the tanks are to residential buildings, the higher the pipe should be.
  • For convenience, you can make a viewing window in the lid of the septic tank and cover it with a piece of dense rubber. This will make it much easier to control the degree of filling of the containers.
  • To insulate a septic tank, tires can be wrapped with roofing material or dense polyethylene before filling sand or crushed stone. The same technique is used if there is even the slightest risk of untreated wastewater entering the groundwater.
  • Experienced owners recommend planting some kind of moisture-loving tree near the reservoirs: a weeping willow, alder or rakita. The plant will absorb all excess water.

Guide for self-construction of a septic tank from car tires

1. Choosing the right place. When choosing a place for a sewage pit, you should take into account some features of the terrain, so as not to get to the groundwater source, also observe one more condition - all sources of drinking water (wells, columns) must be at a distance of at least 25 m from the sewer pit.

2. Excavation work.

3. Laying tires in the pit.

4. Septic tank cover.

A well-maintained house is, first of all, housing with a sewerage system. Unfortunately, not everywhere there are conditions for the arrangement of communications. Often you have to resort to unusual ways of creating it, for example, to arrange a septic tank from tires, a simple and practical option that allows you to provide your home with a sewage system at no special cost. However, you need to understand that such a structure is not intended for large volumes of wastewater, therefore it is chosen if a small number of people will use the sewage system.

Septic tank: the difference from the cesspool and the principle of operation

Many mentally equate the cesspool and the septic tank, confident that since they have to be pumped out, then there is no difference. However, it is not. The difference is enormous. A cesspool is a conventional tank that is emptied as it fills. Whereas a septic tank, equipped with tires, is a system that carries out biological wastewater treatment. He, too, sometimes needs to be pumped out, but much less often than a cesspool.

The system consists of two sealed tanks connected to each other. Wastewater flows into the first tank directly from the sewer pipe. This area can be considered a primary treatment zone, in which large particles of contaminants settle. This is where the work of bacteria that purifies the effluents begins.

Sewage settles to the bottom, only the primary purified water reaches the overflow zone, which is located in the upper part, and enters the second chamber. It is slightly larger than the first one. Here, the active work of bacteria continues, only it happens much more intensively.

Basic rules for arranging a structure

When choosing a place for a septic tank, consider the following:

  • There must be at least a meter of soil between the upper level of groundwater and the bottom of the structure.
  • The distance from the drinking water intake to the septic tank is at least 50 m for sandy soils and 20 meters for clay soils.
  • There must be a free access for the sewer truck.
  • The distance from the house to the septic tank is at least 5 m.
  • If possible, the structure is arranged so that its level is below the water intake, that is, towards the natural slope of the landscape.

A sewer pipe must be connected to the septic tank. So that it does not suffer in the cold, it is best to lay it below the freezing level of the soil. It is possible to equip a special protective box in which it will be reliably protected from mechanical damage and will be able to “play” from temperature differences without consequences.

Features of system installation

Having chosen a place for a construction, you need to decide on its volume. It is generally believed that it should be equal to at least three times the daily runoff. Based on this, the approximate depth of the structure is calculated. Most often it is equal to the height of 5-7 tires.

Considering that tires can be very different, both from cars and from powerful agricultural equipment, the volume of the structure also varies.

When laying tires in a pit, they can be fastened to each other, then the structure will be stronger

The work is carried out in stages:

  • Markup. The tire intended for the first well is taken and laid on the ground. The dimensions of the future well are marked on it. At some distance, the tire is laid, intended for the second container. It can be of a larger diameter, since the volume of the second well must be larger. Marking is also carried out along it. Then a hole of the required size is dug under both containers.
  • Arrangement of the bottom of wells. It should not let impurities into the ground. The surface can be concreted or equipped with a so-called "clay plug", 20-25 cm wide.
  • Tire preparation. In each of the tires, using a jigsaw, the upper part is carefully removed. After installation, such parts form a well with smoother walls, which will prevent sewage from lingering on them.
  • Installation of tires. The tires are stacked one on top of the other. At the same time, for the strength of the connection, they can be pierced in pairs and tied with a wire. Each joint and seam is carefully coated with a sealant. A transition pipe should be inserted between the wells at a height of approximately 2/3 of the bottom, under which a hole is cut. In the upper part of the first well, a hole is also cut out for a sewer pipe extended from the house.
  • Laying pipes between wells. For these purposes, an ordinary plastic sewer pipe is suitable. A structure that supplies drains from the house is also inserted and fixed inside the hole.
  • Backfilling the pit. For these purposes, you can use sand or soil that was removed when digging a hole. The operation is performed carefully so as not to damage the integrity of the structure.
  • Cover arrangement. Wells must be closed with lids, it is desirable that the material from which they are made does not rot.

The structure is ready for use.

The overflow pipe between the tanks is mounted in the hole cut out in the tires

The main advantage of this option is its low cost and ease of installation. There are, however, disadvantages:

  • A small amount of wastewater that it can recycle.
  • There is a rather high risk of contamination of the soil with sewage, since it is difficult to achieve complete tightness from the tires.

Also, when planning to equip such a septic tank from tires with your own hands, you need to understand that the structure belongs to the class of septic tanks, therefore, it requires pumping out the accumulated liquid.

Some owners of suburban buildings are trying to equip a full-fledged three-chamber septic tank from tires. It is worth noting, however, that while technically possible, tires are not the best material for such structures. It is unlikely that it will be possible to ensure the tightness necessary for the effective operation of the septic tank. In addition, interconnected tires can gradually shift as a result of seasonal temperature fluctuations in the soil, which further compromises the tightness of each chamber. As a septic tank, the tire construction serves very well, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of civilization even far from the city.

Sewerage is one of the most important elements of a private house, which will help to ensure a comfortable life for residents. While apartment owners solve this problem by simply connecting to the central sewer network, summer residents or owners of a private house have to equip a sewage system from tires with their own hands. This is a simple and inexpensive option for arranging a private plot.

The structure looks like a tank consisting of two or three chambers, the purpose of which is to collect, settle and filter waste, which is ensured by special bacteria.

As a rule, all the liquid that gets into the septic tank from the tires is 97-98% purified, according to SanPin standards. Homeowners do not have to spend a lot of money to create such a structure, since worn tires are perfect as materials.

In this article, you can learn how to competently build a high-quality sewage system from tires.

Construction building rules

Positioning the tank too far from the house is also a bad option. This will significantly increase the monetary costs of building the structure.

As a rule, at least one manhole is required for the outside of the sewer. In the event that the pipeline is longer than 25 meters, additional wells will have to be added.

If the water supply is too long, it is likely that blockages will often form inside. This should be taken into account even though a special pump will be installed, which will allow to eliminate wastewater from the sewage system.

Tire Sump Options

The choice of the structure is carried out depending on how much wastewater will come out of the residential building. If few people live on the site, the simplest option will be enough for them.

Watch the video

For a family of more than four people, this option will not work, as it will quickly become unusable due to excessive workload. Therefore, experts recommend considering the option with two wells.

Sump with filter system

This is an inexpensive sewerage option. To build it, you need to dig a hole under the foundation pit, arrange the bottom and put the tires down. It should be borne in mind that it is undesirable to build such a septic tank next to buildings or cellars.
It is better to give preference to wheels from large vehicles with a wide diameter, as they hold more waste and increase the working capacity of the sewer.
The principle of operation of such a septic tank is simple:

  1. waste flows through the sewer pipe into the well through the drain;
  2. that part of the effluent that does not dissolve does not fall into the ground and remains on the crushed stone layer;
  3. the purified liquid is absorbed into the ground through the drain.

The advantage of this design is the fact that it does not require large construction costs, and also does not harm the environment, which makes it attractive in comparison with other options.

The main essence of the design is that water flows through the pipeline, bypassing the bottom contaminated with silt. However, the pipe quickly becomes clogged with the same sludge and therefore it is short-lived.

Materials and tools required for the construction of sewage from tires

In the event that the owner of a private plot cannot afford the installation of an expensive sewage system, he can perfectly cope with this task using the materials at hand, which are usually available from any home craftsman. Old car tires or tires are perfect for a septic tank.

This material is not difficult to find, it is available from factories that write off tires and tires as unnecessary. In addition, you can find advertisements of individuals on the Internet. The best option is to contact a tire changer. There will be an abundance of old tires from various cars, and the owner of the service can give badly worn tires for free, thereby saving on their disposal.

In this case, it is still important to take into account several basic rules that will help to correctly build a cesspool or septic tank in a private house. Care must be taken to seal all joints and seams between the wheels in order to prevent wastewater from entering the ground.
It is worth deciding in advance on the type of construction and the place of its localization.

The location of the sewage system must meet all the standards previously specified in the article. Also, the structure itself must be installed below the level of soil freezing.

Often, the owners of summer cottages to create their own sewage system resort to digging a standard cesspool. However, such an approach to the organization of domestic wastewater threatens an environmental disaster, at least for its own site and all its residents. Therefore, the notorious pit was replaced by a septic tank made of tires.

Such a structure is a two- or three-chamber reservoir designed to collect, settle and purify wastewater using special bacteria. As a result, all liquid that has been purified in such a structure, according to SNiP standards, is considered 97-98% purified. The walls of such a treatment plant are made exclusively from old car tires, as shown in the video below.

Important: we suggest not to confuse the standard pit for household waste, lined with car cameras. In this case, dirty water simply drains from the storage chamber into the ground, which does not guarantee high-quality wastewater treatment and is not a septic tank. Or, a similar septic tank from tires can be made exclusively for gray wastewater (from a shower, bath, sink), but not from a toilet.

A high-quality and reliable septic tank from tires during its construction requires adherence to certain principles. This will not only guarantee the efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant from wheels, but also prevent environmental troubles that may arise as a result of ignoring these requirements. More details in the video below.

So, a septic tank from tires can be made under the following conditions:

  • If the groundwater level at the site is below 2 meters. In this case, the plastic wheels from the car are not threatened with shifts, erosion and deformation as a result of heaving of the soil.
  • It is advisable that in the area where it is supposed to make a septic tank from a tire, there should be sandy loam soil. This will ensure better and faster drainage of the treated water.
  • It is important to dig a hole under the septic tank of the tire below the freezing level of the soil. Even if it is a small reservoir for drainage of gray domestic water.
  • It is worth remembering that a septic tank from tires must be and correctly located relative to all buildings on the site and water intake sources. So, from the house you need to make a septic tank from a tire at a distance of at least 5 meters. And from a well or a well - at a distance of 20 or more meters. In this case, it is advisable to make a septic tank with your own hands at the lowest point of your site. Thus, the risk of groundwater contamination is reduced to a minimum.

Advantage of the car wheel cleaning system

If you decide to make a septic tank from a tire for a car with your own hands, then in some cases such a design has advantages as well as disadvantages. The main advantages of the treatment plant are:

  • The minimum level of costs for arranging a sewerage system with your own hands;
  • Simplification of work, which allows you to mount cameras alone;
  • Average service life, reduced to 10-15 years, which, in principle, will suit summer residents and owners of non-capital houses / summer cottages.

The disadvantages of a tire treatment plant include:

  • Susceptibility of rubber to aggressive environments. Over time, the tires of the wheels will simply be "eaten" by sewage;
  • Possible depressurization of tanks due to heaving and mobility of the soil (provided that mistakes are made when installing the septic tank of the tire);
  • The exclusion of the possibility of repairing a septic tank with your own hands due to its uselessness. If such a wastewater treatment system is damaged, you just have to make a new septic tank in another place, since even dismantling it will not make sense;
  • The appearance of an unpleasant odor from the septic tank from the tire. But here the situation can be corrected with the help of a funnel.

Important: you should place the fan pipe with your own hands above the level of the buildings so that the smell is carried away with the wind flows, bypassing the buildings, as shown in the video.

Construction of a septic tank from car tires

To carry out work with your own hands on the arrangement of the sewage system of a private house or summer cottage, you need to stock up on car tires. It is desirable that they are large enough (from trucks). This will allow you to create a purification system of the required volume. To obtain a septic tank from a tire of the required size, it is correct to use 5-7 tires of large diameter and 5-7 tires of smaller diameter for each of the following two chambers.

So, we will carry out the work as follows:

  • First of all, it is worth applying markings on the ground. To do this, it is enough to lay out three tires side by side and outline the corners of the future foundation pit. They dig a hole with their own hands to a depth corresponding to the height of the number of tires and add 30-50 cm to the depth, and 30 cm to the width on each side.
  • After the pit is ready, it is advisable to carefully level the bottom and fill it with sand about 30 cm thick around its entire perimeter. After that, the sand is well rammed.
  • The tires are mounted on top of each other, connecting them with a wire through perforated holes. Subsequently, all holes and joints between the tires will need to be smeared with a liquid sealant. This will ensure reliable sealing of the treatment plant.

Important: Before laying car tires for a septic tank, the tires must be cut from the inside. Their curved inward edges are removed, which can accumulate the remains of feces and other debris in their nooks and crannies.

  • At the stage of installing septic tank chambers for a country house, it is worth creating holes for installing overflow pipes and under a sewer intake pipe. Here, the joints are also treated with a sealant.

  • In order for the first two tanks of the septic tank from the tire to be completely sealed, it is necessary to provide a monolithic bottom. To do this, you can use either a clay pad (well-compacted clay) or cement mortar. If a concrete screed is used, it is better to reinforce it with a metal mesh, and pour the solution itself so that the lower part of the first tire is slightly sunk into the cement. The same is done if the clay bottom is installed. The bottom of the third chamber should be covered with a layer of fine gravel 20-30 cm thick. This will ensure reliable filtration of clarified wastewater.
  • Now we backfill the septic tank of the tire. Ideally, if clay or a mixture of sand and cement in a 1: 3 ratio will be used for this. Such free-flowing ones will ensure the solidity of the structure under the influence of soil shifts. The sprinkling around the septic tank from the tire is well rammed to the very top.

Important: the third - it is better to sprinkle the drainage chamber with the soil that was removed from the pit. But at the same time, it must be well sealed. And in order to improve the drainage of water from the third chamber in its lower tire, perforation can be made at the installation stage, and the joints themselves cannot be sealed.

  • Last but not least, the septic tank tires are covered with a dense, but not heavy shield. It can be wood, plastic hatches, etc.
  • The first two chambers of the treatment plant are equipped with a ventilation system.

Important: if you want to speed up the process of cleaning domestic wastewater in a private sewer and improve the quality of the treated water, you can resort to the help of bacteria. In this case, the septic tank from the tire will be called biological.

Several mistakes that owners make when installing a septic tank from car tires

When arranging a private sewage system with your own hands from old tires, unforgivable mistakes are often made, which lead to ineffectiveness of the treatment system. One of the most common is the installation of a perforated pipe in the third chamber in a small well. It is believed that a pipe protruding 40-60 cm above the bottom of the drainage chamber will accelerate and deepen the drainage of treated water. At the same time, the bottom is not compacted with sand.

Such installation of a septic tank is unacceptable according to the reviews of professionals. First, the waste water does not pass additional filtration through the sand layer, which can have a detrimental effect on the groundwater of the site. And, secondly, even the existing drainage layer of the soil deteriorates even more as a result of the disturbance of its structure through drilling a well.
